In this depiction of judgment, punishment, and salvation, Utagawa Yoshifuji casts mice as the judged and condemned and cats in the role of judges, torturers, and Datsueba (the Hag of Hell). Only one figure appears in human form, the blue savior at the lower right. Normally this individual would be Jizo (the bodhisattva Kshitigarbha), but in this satirical print he is Daitokuten, a folk god of good fortune and prosperity, who had a cult following during this period. The cats punish the mice in the same ways that humans are punished in Buddhist hell paintings, including being dunked into boiling cauldrons or blood pools.]

THREE A.M.

The god of three a.m. is the god of the dripping faucet, sirens, and barking dogs. He’s been given titular charge of circumstances that cannot be controlled. “It’s out of my hands,” he says, repeatedly. He is a minor functionary, a troll that lives under a bridge. On the far side are the pastures of night where bright stars graze in the dark matter of the cosmos. He is fond of philosophic thought. “Of course, our understanding is limited. All we can do is adhere to those laws and principles that have been proven, time and again, to work.” It seems there is some discrepancy in my papers. “A minor delay,” he assures me. Now it’s almost four.

Baloney

There’s a young couple in the parking lot, kissing. Not just kissing, they look as though they might eat each other up, kissing, nibbling, biting, mouths wide open, play fighting like young dogs, wrapped around each other like snakes. I remember that, sort of, that hunger, that passionate intensity. And I get a kind of nostalgic craving for it, in a way that I get a craving, occasionally, for the food of my childhood. Baloney on white bread, for instance: one slice of white bread with mustard or Miracle Whip or ketchup? not ketchup, one has to draw the line somewhere? and one slice of baloney. It had a nice symmetry to it, the circle of baloney and the rectangle of bread. Then you folded the bread and the baloney in the middle and took a bite out of the very centre of the folded side. When you unfolded the sandwich you had a hole, a circle in the center of the bread and baloney frame, a window, a porthole from which you could get a new view of the world.

Temperature in the upper seventies, a bit of a breeze. Great cumulus clouds pass slowly through the summer sky like parade floats. And the slender grasses gather round you, pressing forward, with exaggerated deference, whispering, eager to catch a glimpse. It’s your party after all. And it couldn’t be more perfect. Yet there’s a nagging thought: you don’t really deserve all this attention, and that come October, there will be a price to pay.

So Calico Jack bullies Stede who cannot take it, so he tries to bully back and it only ends up working in Jack's favor. Stede bullies Izzy, who cannot take it(but will think about it while jerking off later), and when it happens he gets so mad that his face turns red and steam starts coming out of his ears. Izzy bullies Ed who seems like he can take it until Izzy hits him where it hurts at the exact wrong moment, so Ed wears Black eyeshadow and cries.

🏀 Ravenbrooks High Basketball Team 🏀

Hello, you guys remember Ruben and Seth? You know those guys who didn't even have speaking lines in Waking Nightmares? Well I made a gang for my AU with them and some other characters who were also in the book but so unimportant only their names were mentioned. The only gang member missing here is Enzo because he left the gang later in the story, though he's still on the team. Anyway enjoy Highschool bullies and some info on them below.

👟 Ruben Mariano Smith: Leader 👟

Ruben Mariano Smith is the Leader of the gang and the Team Captain, and is in 11th Grade despite being 19 due to being held back a few classes for failing. He's incredibly aggressive and rude, and can be violent as it doesn't take much to provoke him. Ruben's parents are divorced and he mainly lives with his father, Officer Keith Smith, only living with his mother and stepdad during the weekends. His favourite bands are Beastie Boys, Metallica, Mötley Crüe and KISS.

📏 Seth Jenkins 📏

Seth Jenkins is a troubled boy in 11th Grade (he failed only one grade and had to repeat), and most of his classmates are disturbed by his strange behaviours. He likes to carry a jar around with him, and he'll fill it with dead bugs and spiders (some of which he likes to eat). He lives with his Aunt and younger cousin, due to him not having his parents around anymore. His favourite bands/artists are Soft Cell, Queen, and Elton John (though his favourite song is Easy Lover by Philip Bailey).

🎽 James Kinsman 🎽

James Kinsman is mostly an annoying selfish brat with a moral backbone of a chocolate éclair (ha-). He likes to do pranks and will talk at length about how cool he is or how much money his family has (the "well my dad is a" type). His parents are quite wealthy, and so he's become very spoiled. His favourite bands/artists are Bon Jovi, The Beach Boys, and Billy Idol.

💈 Jake Louis 💈

Jake Louis is in 11th Grade, and the best way to describe him is that his dental hygiene is as good as his grades. He is the very definition of a class clown and constantly smells like shitty deodorant and cigarettes. His parents own a small Italian restaurant, which is where he usually gets his food from. His favourite bands/artists are Pixies, A-ha, Billy Idol, Ricky Nelson, and Queen.

🎸 Collin Kyong Jones 🎸

Collin Kyong Jones is the only 12th Grader on the team, and is the most intelligent and sensible member on the team, though most are intimidated by his height and size. He lives in a stable home, and mostly hangs around the gang due to his friendship with Jake and Ruben, since he's known them from a young age. His favourite bands/artists are Talking Heads, The Beastie Boys, Metallica, The Clash, and Queen.
