I attended the 14th edition of the Mexican festival MUTEK - the international festival of digital creativity that unites music and technology. This latest edition featured the United Kingdom as a partner and I was pleased in particular to be at one of the innovation events alongside long-time associate of mine, Israel Pons of Angels Nest LatAm, who I am happy to have worked with in both the UK and México, at events to raise the support and profile of Mexican SMEs. Now entering its 15th edition, MUTEK continues to go from strength to strength, branching out with new editions of the festival in other countries. It is a fantastic display of creativity and it was great to have so many UK artistes performing as part of the festival and to be there to support them in their navigation of Mexico; providing them with recommendations for their initial and future experiences and projects. Been listening to Mutek live for the last couple of days. So I created a playlist in Soundcloud with Mutek favourites from the past 20 years.

Camila Fuchs - Heart Pressed Between Stones

Camila Fuchs is Camila de Laborde and Daniel Hermann-Collini whom forged in London’s global melting pot. Originally they hail from Mexico City and Munich respectively. Heart Pressed Between Stones is Camila Fuchs’ second album after 2016’s Singing From Fixed Rung. In the short time between each they’ve supported they’ve supported / shared a stage with Actress, Aleksi Perala, Laurel Halo, Starcrawler, William Basinski, Braids, Ben Vince, Charles Hayward and played for the second time at Mutek in Mexico live. The DNA of Nordic avant-pop songstresses Guðmundsdóttir and Dreijer Anderson are still traceable but appear this time more as blueprints on which Camila Fuchs map out their identity. The seamless melding of artificial and organic sound sources together with de Laborde’s untreated stripped vocals lends their songs an almost archaic ageless quality where the sonic bedrock affirms the lyrical subject matter. The moment album opener One on One’s chords unfurl it’s apparent you’re in store for a dark ride.

Funimation Gets Groovy with MUTEKING THE Dancing HERO TV Anime

  Some quick news for all you fans of superheros that have been known to cut a rug or two: Funimation has licensed MUTEKING THE Dancing HERO, an upcoming TV anime that serves as a modern day reboot for Tatsunoko Production's 1980 - 1981 Muteking, the Dashing Warrior, a series about a costumed superhero who fights evil with the power of dance.

    Funimation describes MUTEKING THE Dancing HERO as follows:

  This action comedy reimagines the iconic Muteking, The Dashing Warrior for a new generation, as our hero, Muteki, arrives in Neo San Francisco from the country and meets DJ. When monsters suddenly attack, DJ’s music transforms Muteki into Muteking, as the two team up to save the city…with dance!

    MUTEKING THE Dancing HERO is directed by Yuzo Sato and features animation production by Tatsunoko Production and Tezuka Productions. The series scheduled to broadcast in Japan on TV Osaka and TV Aichi beginning on October 02, 2021, with additional broadcasts to follow on TOKYO MX and BS NTV beginning on October 03, 2021.

  MUTEKING THE Dancing HERO will also stream in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand via Funimation as part of their fall 2021 anime simulcast line-up, with additional streams to follow in Mexico, Chile, Peru, and Brazil.
