❖ Timeline ❖

April 16th 1984 — Born to Natan & Mikaela Weiss, of Israeli and Irish origin, respectively. Both parents are doctors, living in Yeovil (Somerset) UK, and raise their son with warmth and stability in a happy home.

1990 — Parents die in a car crash when he’s 6 years old. Grief-stricken and unable to cope, his aunt abandons him in a London orphanage where he meets wee lil Damon (@damon-rutherford​), who’s only 4. Takes him under his wing, and a few months later they get adopted by Andrew and Cerys Rutherford. 

 1994 — Cerys falls ill and dies, the boys ( aged 10 & 8) are broken-hearted. Lara (@lararutherford​), who’d been adopted before that, is still too baby to remember much of it. Andrew uproots the family (+ Adriana @amaroadriana who’s basically a foster sister at this point + her mother, who continues on as the family’s nanny) to Porto Velho in America. Connie (@constance-rutherford) enters the picture shortly (contentiously so) thereafter, and Yvonne (@yvonne-rutherford) is born. 

 1997/8 — Aged 13/14, discovers the truth about Andrew’s line of work. Fractures his relationship with his father and Johnathan (@johnathan-parsons​), who was something of an uncle figure to him. Partially motivated by this event, partially by his dislike of PV, he sets his sights on Med School in Oxford, to get as far away from his father, and follow in the footsteps of his biological parents before him. 

2002 — Graduates highschool at 18, accepted into Oxford University’s School of Medicine, moves back to England. 

2002-2008 — Med school days, these years give rise to Team Posh, giving rise to his long-standing friendships with people like Spencer @spencerberkeley​, Harrison (☠️), and Cassandra @cassandra-acton​​, among others. Also meets his first steady girlfriend, before moving on to Diana (@diana-sehgal), and then Mila (@milaxkorshunova) during these years no more dates bc fuck that i’m confused.

2009 — Some time after graduating med school, he (aged 25) heads to the US to start his long-ass surgical residency. This is followed by an amicable, mutual decision to split with then-girlfriend, Mila, due to the pressures of being long-distance, and some meddling by her v. Russian father.

2011 — On one of many sporadic visits back to the UK, Damon introduces him to publicly adored British actress Katherine Mayfair, and a whirlwind romance ensues, devotedly followed by the press.

2014 — Marries Katherine (aged 30), partway through residency, prompting a transfer back to England to complete his surgical training in London. Despite indulging a hidden drug habit, Katherine promises to stay clean.

2017 — After three years’ worth of a struggling marriage and multiple lies, the dam finally breaks when he finds out that Katherine’s still using drugs while pregnant with their child. This is the same year as he completes his surgical residency and becomes a fully licensed neurosurgeon/consultant (aged 33).

2018 — As soon as his son is born (June 6), Gideon (aged 34) files for divorce. Katherine punishes him in the worst way possible for this decision, and paints him as a cheating scumbag to the media to cover up her own infidelities and continued drug use. This poisons the public’s opinion against him and a bitter custody battle ensues. Easily the worst year of his life, the results of which have lingered through the ensuing years.

Some time in between idk bear w me ok — Befriends his apartment neighbour, Elene Dadiani. The lines blur between friendship and something more, but before it can flourish she’s gunned down outside the apartment one horrible night. The event scars him and puts him off the prospect of romance for a few more years. Also there are many attacks on his family in between and mob life is pervasive as shit and the Ruthas are constant drama rip, but y’all know this already

2024 (Present day) — Gid is 39 going on 40, and still goin’ thru it. Felix is 5 going on 6, and goin’ thru it somewhat less. He is currently in a bid to launch another appeal against his ex for full custody of their child.

Der Kibbuz Yad Mordechai im Süden Israels steht unter ständigem Raketenbeschuss, seit er am 7. Oktober terroristische Infiltratoren abwehrte. 

Ein Holocaust-Museum in einem Kibbuz in der Nähe des Gazastreifens ist durch eine Hamas-Rakete beschädigt worden. In die »Vom Holocaust zum Wiedererwachen«-Gedenkstätte, die ca. drei Kilometer von der von der Hamas geführten Küstenenklave entfernt liegt, schlug am Dienstag ein Projektil ein und hinterließ ein klaffendes Loch in der Decke, während Steine und Trümmer auf dem Boden herumlagen.

»Es bricht einem das Herz, wenn man den Schaden sieht«, sagte Museumsdirektorin Yael Shtauber am Dienstag bei einem Rundgang durch das Museum zu Reportern. »Das Museum ist ein Symbol für das jüdische Volk.« Für die Führung der Journalisten wurde das Museum seit Kriegsbeginn zum ersten Mal wieder geöffnet; auch die Direktorin besichtigte die Schäden zum ersten Mal.

Die Rakete ließ eine Wasserleitung platzen und überschwemmte zwei der bekanntesten Ausstellungsstücke des Museums: ein Modell des Warschauer Ghettos und eine Nachbildung des als Mila 18 bekannten Ghettobunkers aus dem Zweiten Weltkrieg, welcher der Jüdischen Kampforganisation (ŻOB) als Hauptquartier diente, von dem aus der Widerstandskampf gegen die Nationalsozialisten geführt wurde.

Der Kibbuz, der derzeit geräumt ist und als militärische Sperrzone gilt, konnte während des Massakers am 7. Oktobereinen Infiltrationsversuch der Hamas abwehren. Seitdem steht er unter ständigem Raketenbeschuss; sogar während des Besuchs der Journalisten setzten die Raketen nahe gelegene Felder in Brand.

Wie im Holocaust

Die Sicherheitskräfte des Kibbuz entdeckten den Schaden am Museum am späten Montagabend, als sie sahen, wie Wasser aus dem Gebäude floss.

»Wie im Holocaust war die Idee, die Juden zu töten«, sagte der Museumsmitarbeiter Jeremy Weiss über das Hamas-Massaker und den seitdem anhaltenden Raketenterror. »Es ist sehr symbolisch, dass die Rakete, die das Museum traf, den Bunker beschädigte, der den jüdischen Widerstand gegen die Nazis symbolisiert.«

Andere Ausstellungsstücke, darunter eine internationale Fotoausstellung von Holocaust-Überlebenden aus aller Welt, die als Lonka-Projekt bekannt ist, wurden ebenso wenig beschädigt wie die Statue von Mordechai Anielewicz, dem Kommandanten der Jüdischen Kampforganisation, der größten jüdischen Widerstandsbewegung während des Zweiten Weltkriegs.

Das ganz in der Nähe von Schützengräben aus dem Unabhängigkeitskrieg von 1948 liegende Museum schildert besonders die Geschichte des jüdischen Aufstands im Warschauer Ghetto von 1943. Die 1968 von polnischen Holocaust-Überlebenden eingerichtete Ausstellung zählt ca. 40.000 Besucher pro Jahr. »Zum Glück sind nur Dinge kaputt gegangen und keine Menschen«, ist Shtauber erleichtert. »Wir werden das Museum wieder aufbauen und auch diese Geschichte erzählen.«

 As promised, an expositiony art dump! I shied away from depicting anything too nasty, but I’ll explain the story here (goes from left to right on both the top and bottom):
 “H-hey…got any room for a desperate man and his son?”
Schott Weiss was a merchant’s son, set to inherit his family’s business. He managed to woo an Abyssian noblewoman, much to her parent’s chagrin. They were happy for a time, and had a tiny son they named Percival, after his grandfather, but things wouldn’t stay peaceful for long.
The country they lived in (I have yet to come up with a name, but it’s an equivalent to Germany) went to war with a neighboring country. Schott became worried; sure, his wife was immortal and would likely come out okay, but what about their son? If their home was attacked…Schott didn’t want to think about that. He fled, taking his now six-month-old son with him, and was lucky enough to come across Lillian Lee, the captain of the Tarantula Crew. He plead his case to her, and she hired him on as a gunner. Percy was raised by the Tarantula Crew, and never knew his mother.
 “Schott, love, has anyone ever told you how handsome you are?”
“I know what you’re trying to do, Mary, and I want no part of it!”
Maryanne Alfem, better known as Red Mary, had eyes for Schott as soon as she met him. She did everything she could to win him over, but he wished to remain loyal to his wife. Not that this stopped Mary from trying, it took until Schott struck her trying to get her away from him.
“Mila…if not for that wench and her wretched boy, Schott would be mine…”
Mary didn’t take the fact that Schott wanted nothing to do with her all that well. She had put on a kindly façade up until that point, but after Schott struck her, the mask came off and she began to take her frustrations out on him and Percy. Percy, who was three at the time, was the main target of her anger, as she viewed him as a manifestation of everything she couldn’t have.
 “P-papa…?”
“Percy, sweetie, I don’t think your papa is coming back.”
When Percy was five years old, Red Mary betrayed the Tarantula Crew, and burned the ship down. It is not known what her motive was, or even if she had one. Schott burned to death during his efforts to get as many people off the ship as he could. Percy was just old enough to grasp the concept of death and what it meant, but still too young to handle it well. It didn’t help that during the fire, he witnessed his godfather, Thade Soben, have a mental breakdown. Percy, already a nervous child, became convinced in that moment that he would never truly be safe; after all, his papa was dead and his godfather was insane.
 “Here, kid, this belongs to you now.”
Percy didn’t get much contact with the remaining crew members for another four years, until one day, Conea, a close friend of his father’s, surfaced while the Laughingstock crew was docked. He had found Schott’s old locket at the bottom of the sea, and brought it to Percy as a keepsake. Along with his old doll, this locket became one of Percy’s comfort objects.

La forza militare russa e quella Ucraina

La Russia ha schierato un terzo della sua forza militare che, negli ultimi anni, è stata rafforzata e migliorata. Sono stati fatti molti investimenti nel settore militare sviluppati soprattutto nelle nuove armi nucleari come i missili ipersonici. Attualmente la Russia è seconda solo agli Stati Uniti e davanti alla Cina come super potenza militare. con una spesa che solo nel 2021 ha ammontato a oltre 62 miliardi di dollari, il doppio, per fare un esempio, di quella dell'Italia. Il presidente, alla vigilia dell'invasione, si è vantato di avere armi «che non hanno eguali al mondo» e a prescindere dalle dichiarazioni, l'ultimo conflitto in cui la Russia ha mostrato i muscoli, quello in Siria, ha dimostrato la capacità militare di Mosca.

Al 2020 i russi contano circa 900.000 effettivi, che giungono a circa 2.000.000 se inclusivi dei riservisti, mentre l'Ucraina dispone di circa 200.000 soldati attivi.

Subito dopo la dichiarazione di guerra da parte dello zar russo, il presidente Volodymyr Zelensky ha dichiarato la legge marziale nel paese e chiamato alle armi tutti gli uomini tra i 18 e i 60 anni, armando i civili con oltre 18 mila fucili. Le forze terrestri dell’Ucraina sono state costituite come parte delle forze armate sulla base del decreto del Presidente nel 1996. Il personale arruolato risulta intorno a 200.000 persone.

Secondo i dati più recenti, le forze terrestri ucraine sono costituite da 2.596 carri armati contro i 12.420 della Russia. La forza aerea ucraina è composta da 318 unità, quella russa di 4.173.  A partire dal 2013, la Marina militare delle forze armate ucraine era di 14.700, composta da 22 navi da guerra e barche, 11 aerei ed elicotteri antiaerei, 40 carri armati, 199 veicoli da combattimento corazzati e 54 sistemi di artiglieria con un calibro di oltre 100 millimetri. Ora il numero della flotta navale dovrebbe aver raggiunto le 38 unità contro le 605 russe.

Il rapporto "The Military balance", pubblicato dall'Istituto Internazionale per gli Studi strategici, evidenzia che nel 2021 l'Ucraina ha destinato alle spese militari 4,7 miliardi di dollari. Le forze di terra russe contano in particolare 280mila effettivi, il doppio di quelli ucraini, mentre nell'aviazione il rapporto è di cinque a uno. Sul fronte ucraino, la Russia schiera attualmente circa 200mila effettivi, mentre è difficile stimare le forze ucraine data la mobilitazione totale in corso. C'è da dire che gli ucraini sono ancora in gran parte equipaggiati con armamenti di epoca sovietica. Proprio per questo motivo Kiev stava valutando un possibile ingresso nella Nato come strumento di ammodernamento delle proprie strutture - in special modo l'aviazione - per la quale era previsto l'acquisto di apparecchi di fabbricazione occidentale a partire dalla metà del prossimo decennio.

In queste ore di guerra estrema le truppe di Kiev rispondono all'avanzata russa usando i missili anti-carro Javelin, che sono tra i più avanzati al mondo. Tanto che i militari li chiamano “Saint Javelin”. Un ufficiale ucraino ha raccontato al giornalista della Cnn Micheal Weiss: «Nel 2014 ci difendevamo con gli Rpg (un tipo di razzo più semplice ed economico) e con quelli era difficile distruggere un T-72 (un carroarmato russo). Adesso non è più un problema». Quest’arma ha acquistato una vasta popolarità in Ucraina quando, nei mesi scorsi, ha iniziato a essere consegnata alle forze armate. Oggi, “Saint Javelin” è un meme diffuso sui tutti i social media ucraini, oltre che una linea di accessori e abbigliamento che devolve i suoi profitti agli orfani di guerra.

La Russia, secondo il Guardian, ha accumulato più di 150mila soldati da combattimento ai confini dell'Ucraina, mentre le truppe separatiste delle sedicenti repubbliche filo-russe di Donetsk e Luhansk possono contare su circa 34mila effettivi.  L'esercito di Kiev è in gran parte concentrato nell'Est del Paese, vicino alla regione occupata del Donbass, e gli analisti occidentali ritengono che un obiettivo chiave delle prime operazioni russe sarà cercare di disperdere le forze combattenti ucraine. Sebbene l'Ucraina abbia cercato di modernizzare le sue forze armate nell'ultimo anno, ricevendo, appunto, i missili anticarro Javelin dagli Stati Uniti, armi anticarro a corto raggio dal Regno Unito e un piccolo numero di droni TB2 dalla Turchia, la maggior parte del suo esercito è equipaggiato con attrezzature i cui progetti risalgono all'era sovietica e sono dunque ben conosciuti dai generali russi.

C'è, poi, il tema più scottante, quello delle armi nucleari che Putin ha usato come una delle ragioni dell’invasione: «La possibilità che l'Ucraina abbia armi tattiche nucleari costituisce una minaccia strategica per la Russia», ha detto il presidente russo, affermando che Mosca «vuole la smilitarizzazione dell'Ucraina». Alle accuse di Mosca ha risposto il ministro degli Esteri ucraino, Dmytro Kuleba, che ha sottolineato che il suo paese non ha piani per ottenere armi nucleari.

La Russia aderisce al Trattato di non Proliferazione Nucleare (Tpn), sancito nel 1970, con il quale i paesi hanno iniziato a coordinare il loro impegno per ridurre i loro arsenali nucleari dopo la Guerra fredda. Nel 2010 poi Usa e Russia hanno firmato un ulteriore accordo, prorogato fino al 2025, sugli armamenti nucleari, il “New Start”, che stabilisce il limite di armi atomiche che possono essere possedute dalle due superpotenze a 1.550. Ma il limite stabilito dall’accordo vale solamente per testate e bombe atomiche. Non sono inclusi i missili a corto e medio raggio e le armi nucleari tattiche. Per questo gli arsenali atomici di Russia e Usa sono molto più grandi.

Secondo l’International Peace research institute (Sipri) di Stoccolma, Stati Uniti e Russia detengono il 90% delle forze nucleari globali. Gli ultimi dati del 2021 evidenziano 5.550 testate nucleari di cui 1.800 già schierate per gli Stati Uniti, cioè già collocate nei missili o localizzate in basi militari con forze operative. Per il Sipri la Russia ha un arsenale atomico di 6.255 armi, di cui 1.625 nelle unità operative, quindi pronte per l'uso. Tra le armi con capacità nucleari della Russia ci sono i due missili da crociera ipersonici "Kinzhal” e “Zirkon”.

Oltre alla Russia e agli Usa hanno arsenali atomici la Gran Bretagna (215), la Francia (300) e la Cina (280) che aderiscono al Tpn. Pakistan (150), India (140) e Corea del Nord (20) invece non aderiscono al patto di non proliferazione.
