spoilers for that scene in 1x10 under the cut.
so. that scene. the choking “kink” scene.
Daemon doesn’t grab Rhaenyra by the neck because he doesn’t love her or because he wants to hurt her. he grabs her by the neck because Daemon is a fucked up human being. he’s violent and chaotic and messy. he is incapable of dealing with his own emotions. he has no control over himself.
he acts insane throughout the whole episode. Rhaenyra herself says so. he tries to keep his mind occupied at all times, preparing for war, because if he lets himself feel, he’s gonna crumble.
it’s not that he doesn’t feel. it’s that he feels too much and doesn’t know what do to about it.
he grabs her by the neck because in the mist of grief and anger and desperation, he just found out that the brother he loved so dearly and that he so insistently tried to protect - Viserys, his big brother, he’s never trusted him. never. never had any intention of trusting him. not once. not at all.
Daemon is the kind of person who kills his wife by smashing her head with a rock.
so he grabs Rhaenyra by the neck. and she kind of laughs when she realises that Daemon doesn’t know. he does not know because his own brother kept their family secret from him.
Daemon grabs her by the neck but it’s not about Rhaenyra and Daemon as a couple.
it’s not about Rhaenyra at all.

I think there's nothing wrong or that far off by headcanoning John as physically abusive but you must ask yourself: do I think that's the only legitimate way to make sense of why his abuse was so traumatising compared to what is shown in canon? do I understand that the physical abuse wasn't the sole traumatising factor for Sam & Dean? Do I take neglect & psychological abuse seriously or am I making it worse to try to make it valid?

i love how the quote “your worst sin is that you have destroyed and betrayed yourself for nothing” is often cited as a sort of aphorism when in context it's just rodya hard projecting all his problems onto poor sonya. like please do not take any sort of advice from a man who unironically compares himself to napoleon. he is not qualified

If we’re really gonna get into any hypotheticals of what Shen Jiu’s response would have been to Yue Qingyuan admitting why he didn’t rescue the former, then let’s not forget that the only scenario in which Shen Jiu can see himself forgiving Yue Qingyuan’s “failure” is if Yue Qingyuan dies in the attempt. This is, of course, referring to the whole Bingge ambush thing, but this also refers to how before Shen Jiu reunited with first disciple Yue Qingyuan, he was comforting himself with the thought that the reason Yue Qingyuan never returned was because he had died. She Jiu was literally imagining holding a little funeral for him, because in his mind, Yue Qingyuan is useless without him. The fact that Yue Qingyuan not only survived on his own but ended up living the dream that Shen Jiu wanted (again, in his mind since we know that yqy was not living “the dream”)? That was what had Shen Jiu pissed.

I am definitely a "will defend Knives rights AND wrongs" kinda person but yeah seeing people try and say the plant merging thing was consensual had me immediately thinking of Domina. That is the most blatant "Oh Knives is a big hypocrite" moment. Yet rarely see anyone talk about it which sucks cause it's an interesting point to jump off and talk about how far he was willing to go and how far he strayed from his original goal. Anyways thank you for that post your so right about Knives
Nodding!! Nodding. I'm gonna be 100% transparent and say I either missed or didn't read the part where it's said the planet merger with his dependent sisters was something they all agreed to so I just err on the side of "sure alright I'll believe it." And Vash is, like, complicated in the context of Knives's character. That's a whole can of worms on its own. It's the case of Domina that has me going,,,nnno, it can't have been a 100% consensual. I read that chapter like. Twice just to take it all in. He absorbs her in one of the most horrifying examples of his disregard for the autonomy of others in the whole manga, because he doesn't bat an eye about it. His whole focus is on the imminent fight with Vash. It's Chronica and the Earth Federation clawing at the ship and the controls trying to save her and it's Chronica crying her eyes out when she realizes Domina's just. Gone. Completely lost to the hivemind. She doesn't have a personality in there or a mind of her own. And Knives uses them all up like a damn battery by the end of the manga in a vicious parody of a Last Run.
You bring up a great point that it really shows how far Knives strays from his goals. He's a means-justify-the-ends villain through and through, but the ends changed over the course of Trimax and I feel that the actual reductive take is thinking he's consistently doing this for the good of all Plants.
Knives is erratic, violent, and ultimately driven by deep seated fear and rage. Does he have a point in that Plants are being recklessly abused and exploited by the people of Gunsmoke? Sure. That's kind of a given. But the way he goes about it veers so far into batshit crazy territory that it hurts him, the people he's trying to save, and everyone around him regardless of their stake in the matter.

I'm watching Good Omens for the first time after seeing it making waves on Tumblr. I love Neil Gaimans works, and so I decided to finally sit down and watch it, only to have every single thought of the show wiped from my subconscious at the sight of that child taking a massive, teeth first, bite out of his ice cream. I no longer care about the plot, I no longer care about the demon and angel, I want a play by play of this child's life that led him to think that that is ok. I need to know exactly what went wrong for this child to have such a thought cross his mind, and then act on it. Armageddon could happen for all I care as long as that ice cream biting child is wiped off the earth for his sins

honestly the thing that bugs me the most about the woobification of scourge is like. these people are somehow forgetting like 90% of his entire personality. namely that his greatest ambition is more or less to be the ultimate schoolyard bully who faces 0 repercussions for his actions. like he talks about becoming king of the multiverse or whatever the heck but he never really... theres no actual reason to it. he's got no real longterm goal. he's not interested in remaking the world in his own image, or enacting any sort of real agenda, or even being worshiped like a god. he just wants to be able to kick people while theyre down and face absolutely no consequences for anything he does. scourge is very much the kind of person who would go to a playground to kick children down the slides or push them off the swings or something because he's incredibly petty and immature and frankly a loser
like honestly speaking the "i want to be king of the multiverse!1!!!" crap really just reads like he took his brief knowledge of comic book villains and said "ok . sonic is a good person who wants everybody to be free. and i cant be anything like sonic. so i am going to be a bad person who controls other people" but on the most surface level humanly possible (aka in name only) because the truth is he has absolutely no real interest in becoming a ruler or a conqueror or anything of the sort. he's got nothing he actually wants to do with that outside of other people not being able to tell him he cant do whatever he wants. namely, beating the snot out of people he doesnt like. which is almost everybody to exist. something interesting to be said about him trying so hard to separate himself from being a derivative of prime!sonic that his identity still ends up looping back around to being a derivative of prime!sonic but in a different direction, but thats a discussion for another time. REGARDLESS back to my main point.
like. ok mb25yl!shadow becomes king of mobius to enact his incredibly skewed idea of the peace that maria wanted for earth, eggman wants to conquer mobius to remake it in his own image and also build a themepark, finitevus wants to burn everything to the ground because people were the real virus all along and nature is the only one that has it figured out and everybody on this rock is frankly too stupid to deserve to live, and scourge…. became "king" of moebius (read: beat up a bunch of gang leaders and called himself that) and for… what exactly. absolutely nothing. he has no grand ambitions or goals or anything he just wants to be a schoolyard bully and thats about it. hes just an incredible loser. this is also a key component in why hes so so funny. side note but if your redesign removes the inherent tackiness of his design that is no longer scourge.
tldr every day scourge the hedgehog wakes up and chooses to be an incredibly awful immature little brat/playground bully with an appallingly tacky sense of fashion and this is like 90% of his personality and if you dont like that, might i suggest... making an oc?

Will being unable to lie to Mike is so ingrained in his characterization that him actually doing so for the first time feels like such a huge, notable, and intentional moment. Especially with how it dominoed to Mike's monologue. Like honestly Will lying to Mike was a bigger and more affecting story twist to me than Henry saying he was the big bad all along.

What themes George used with Rhaenyra and Aegon in the book?
the main theme for both of them, like in most of FB, is kingship, so what makes a "good" king/queen, what is power in the first place, how do you receive it, how to wield it etc. add to that the theme of hubris - house targaryen cannibalizing itself and sowing the seeds for its future destruction. and, also, the theme that follows through the entirety of the series - corruption - power as a means to its own ends, not for the betterment of society - “why is it always the innocents who suffer most, when you high lords play your game of thrones?”
when asked the question put to shireen, "who would you prefer, aegon or rhaenyra?", you should be going "oh, well, on the one hand this, on the other hand that" and it should lead to a debate on political structures and how societies are organized and how laws are enacted in society and what is the nature of law anyway etc. instead the show turned it into "rhaenyra obviously bc aegon is a literal danger to society".
so when people say that aegon should be even darker bc this is game of thrones and everyone is mean and dark and awful so stop being a crybaby about it, like, ok, but there is a limit as to how far you can push this without sacrificing the balance of this story.
bc this is not the kind of story in which maegor reborn kills saint rhaenyra and does her this great injustice of erasing her queenship from the history books. not that it's a moralistic children's tale either, but, if the lopsidedness between them would have skewed so much in rhaenyra's favour, she would have received a more heroic death or died on her own terms at least

i feel like we as a society dont do enough with the fact that five had long hair for like, his whole life. Do i think he took care of it well enough for it to be possible to braid it? no. is that going to stop me from drawing it in a braid? of course not. Featuring delores judging five’s math skills and a mysterious hand injury bc i got sick of drawing five’s hand halfway through
[ID: A digital drawing of Five at approximately age 30 sitting crosslegged with his back mostly to the viewer. He is gesturing and probably talking about math to Delores, who is a human person sitting behind him and braiding his hair. There are little blue flowers in the braid. Delores is wearing a floral sundress and looks skeptical at whatever Five is saying, while Five is wearing heavily patched clothing and has two of his fingers bandaged. End ID.]

That sounds interesting! I like Jason but how much I like him is inverse to how much writers expect up to find him actions correct. He’s obviously in the wrong and does bad things, I don’t like it when I’m supposed to be rooting for him or feel overly bad for him 😂
Yeah!!! That's pretty much how it goes for me as well 😅
