I stood doing my usual work, scooping in trash from the endless void of space, I'd done it forever and honestly it was boring as hell. It didn't help now I had moved away into my own little hovel away from my family I was all alone which didn't help my boredom. But I did my work anyway grabbing anything I could use for food, fuel, to repair things really anything of use of or interest for me to tinker with. I spotted something just across the way so I waited and set my net up to catch it and slowly dragged it in, I didn't recognize the symbols but it looked pretty beat up so I threw it down into the hovel and didn't think much more of it. Once finished for the week I headed down into my little hovel it fairly tidy and new given I brought a new one when I moved out as I wanted a sleeker and more modern one then my family had. And I stopped off my space suit and began sorting through the various things I had gathered putting them in the various piles until I got to that weird thing.

It was… something technological. I think. I'd never seen the symbols on it before. But given how beat up it was I doubt it still worked. 

I gave it a bit of a tinker and nothing much happened for a good while until I cleaned off some dust and some stuck dirt finding a small old style scanner pad the moment I touched it the whole thing lit up, I was nervous not really wanting to touch it but my curiosity only grew so I touched the scanner pressing my hand against it, just for a second before it became to hot for me to touch almost burning my skin 

"Oww!" I complained moving my hand away and I noticed the scanner then covered itself with an imprint of my hand and I saw it had taken a small skin sample from my wrist no bigger than an inch. It then turned off seaming as dead as before I have it a kick and a poke but nothing so I just threw it on my scrap pile maybe it just had enough power and then finally died.

But I didn't think too hard about it having my dinner and a shower before heading to bed for the night.

I work up so cosy, I was so warm, so happy and I was really comfy until it hit me why am I so cosy an cuddly? I opened my eyes and immediately had a heart attack as in my bed laid … a girl and she- she's beautiful. The most beautiful girl I'd ever seen. She was perfect. As if someone went into my mind and cherry picked all the things I adore and brought her into reality, she laid there her hair against the pillow her body against mine in only a small white shirt dress long enough to cover her even if her nipples piled thought the fabric and her ass almost hung out the back

"Ahhh! Who are you!" I yelped in shock 

"Humm?" She yawns sitting up rubbing her eyes "what's the matter Nigel?" 

"AHH! How do you know my name! Who are you! How did you get here!" I asked getting out of bed putting some space between us

"Hum?" She asks turning her head seeming confused

"What the hell is going on, tell me and tell me right now or I'll swear I'll throw you out the airlock" I told her 

She got up from the bed and walked into the main living area I was confused so I followed her and she went to that weird thing I picked up yesterday that had the scanner on it was now slightly open she dug around a moment before coming over and offering me something

"A fileflash?" I asked looking at the thin thing "my god i haven't seen one in years, uhhhh give me a sec I might have something that can read it" i told her taking the small file flash, I dug around my hovel for a good while trying to find anything that could read a file flash and eventually I found one believe it or not in my junk pile so I set it up on my desk it was a little hazardous and cobbled together but It would do. Putting it in and letting it load up whatever was on it all while she excitedly sat at my feet when it finally loaded I had no ability to input so I just looked through the various things trying to find some kind of explanation "Ahhh a sales video that'll explain things" 

"Hi, I'm Steve and I'm the CEO of love bug enterprises. First I'd like to thank you for your interest and subsequent purchase from our company." He explained "now you have purchased our premium love bug companion package, contents include a shipping pod, scanning plate, your personal file flash, and of course the love bug itself. Now what exactly is a love bug you may be asking? A love bug is our patented term for the creature 'jilloumiaus danataus pilishsjimus' these are native to  flozin 7 a moon orbiting around Colontis in the ramsavix region of the galaxy. These creatures were on the brink of extinction before our company discovered them and helped them achieve their true purpose." He explained I did my best to listen and make notes even if I often had to bat her off me as she kept trying to cuddle me and lay her head on me "now these creatures are very unique in that they remain in a docile state until given a host some describe them as parasite creatures but we like to say there just little love bugs that lie in wait for their perfect companion. What happens is when a love bug is born it remains in a docile fluid egg state until it reaches maturity from then they wait until they find a host where they take a sample of its genetic material and match it's form to that of its host. Then proceed to feed of the host. They feed on genetic material so believe us they are very happy to live this life. We here at love bug enterprises simply take your order for a companion take a newly mature love bug from its natural habitat and ship it across the galaxy to you where your initial scan provides the bug with your DNA allowing it to form a body the same Species and of course to your personal liking. This can take up to six days to fully form but once formed they will have a built in emotional attachment to you as their host. Remember this is what they would do in the wild so they are very happy. Any issues contact the love bug enterprises help line and have a lovely day" he explained

I quickly looked them up and the company went out of business about fifty years ago, meaning that pod is likely one of the last ones or got lost in shipping at some point… and I let it scan me. 

"Ummm time for cuddles Nigel?" She whines nuzzling with my leg 

"I uhh I'm your host aren't I?'

"Of course" She nods "and I love you very much" she giggled 

"Right… when it says genetic material? What exactly do you feed on?" I asked her 

She giggled nuzzling even closer to my leg and stroking her hand delicately across my crotch "oh… okay. Right. Yes. Really?"

"Ummm humm" she nods "I'm hungry master" she pleads 

"Uuughhh…okay"

hi!! i was wondering about your council system -- what did the historic council look like? what's the clerics relationship with it? its a super interesting concept i'd love to hear more about :D

It's an idea I had eons ago, before I even was working on a rewrite project, let alone before I started calling it Better Bones! You can sort of see how it influenced how I thought of Clan Culture going forward

In the original draft, I mentioned how the historic council used to be more powerful before the "Leader's Word Is Law" commandment. BB Fans will probably find that familiar-- it's because that idea ended up becoming Larkstripe's Strike!

And the "trials" that could qualify a cat for entry to the council, you can sort of see that idea living on in Honor Titles.

But, anyway, the Council System isn't something I went with... but, okay, I'll bite and toss some of the old ideas I had about it out there. Feel free to take them and do as you please.

Before the Leader's Word Is Law commandment, the Historic Council would have been JUST as powerful as the leader. In case of a tyrant, they would gather and find a replacement for their Star.

So keeping the Council on the leader's side was a huge political consideration. Morningstar for example lost control of his council.

They had a lot more control over who got appointed as well, so the Historic Council could be very cliquey.

It wasn't all a good thing; the Council was a huge contributor to the development of Clan culture's xenophobia and in-group mentality. They would often move to exclude cats they didn't like, and it was very hard to "move up" in a Clan if you weren't 'adopted into' the good graces of a Council member's family

Xenophobia was NEVER logical and it was never the fault of the foreign groups it hurts. It was because of power consolidation and politics.

BUT, it did have strengths, too. It meant a lot more cats were involved in the decision-making processes of a Clan.

Casting Stones was an event that the Council would extend to all members. It wasn't JUST a vote; it was an open forum, a lot like the way a lot of canon "clan meetings" essentially become debate matches.

The Cleric was actually separate from the Council. I've always imagined that a Cleric has more political sway in a Clan than people think, and that counts with the council as well

See, they can get rid of a leader. A leader is just a cat a mortal chose. But Clerics are supposed to be a sacred, unbroken line from Moth Flight to the modern era

So, a Cleric has the divine right to rule. Leaders actually don't... not until Dalestar and the Leader's Rights.

And as a final funfact, the Council system was based on Medieval guild systems! In my head, a Clan is a sort of "soft manoralism." The 'Star' of a leader's name is sort of like the deed to the land they own, they were beholden to the Council of artisans that live there, and the Cleric is supposed to be a religious representative hypothetically above the both of them.

The "Council Trial" is just an adapted version of submitting a masterpiece to a guild if you look closely!

I still write the life stages of Clan cats with that guild-system in mind, even though I didn't go with the council system. An apprentice is just like a medieval apprentice. A young warrior is a journeyman. A senior warrior is a master.

I stood on the roof of our hovel watching our little hovel slowly float along in its usual daily orbit of the old world of earth. The Earth below us has been long since abandoned with barely any life remaining people or otherwise most of the land mass broken or abused by the disasters both before and after people left, The Vast ocean was once blue or so stories said it is now a horrid dark murky green and black. But Still, I stood and watched the stars float on by us. I noticed some junk across the way floating in the other direction so I took my net slowly rained it out towards the junk hooked it and slowly pulled it in close and threw it down the airlock before heading inside myself shutting the airlock off and slipping my helmet off and fixing my hair as I headed deeper into our hovel.

"Buttercup?" I spoke up sitting my helmet on the side

"Yes, Nigel?"

"Stuff"

"Ohhh" she smiled scurrying from the kitchen in her sweet patchwork dress and apron "What did you bring for me?"

"no idea" I shrug looking at the strange mess of green metal and oddly thin plastic

"Ohh I know what this is" she giggled taking it in hand unfolding and manipulating it for a few seconds before it formed a waist-high little... thing

"Right?"

"It's an artificial tree."

"An artificial tree?"

"Yep"

"This a venus thing?"

"No earth but it came over" she explained

"So on earth, the planet was so fucked they had plastic trees?"

"Just at Christmas time"

"Christmas?"

"A midwinter holiday"

"Oh. that also an earth thing?"

"Yes Nigel" she giggled "My silly orbit boy"

"I don't know earth, mars and Venus stuff."

"I know" she smiled "Come here" she giggled pulling me to sit with her "On earth, there was a holiday known as Christmas" she smiled explaining all the little traditions, decorations, songs and all the other things I needed to know "and when we took to the stars we took traditions with us. they changed over time of course but the main idea was you give gifts" she explained

"I'm still baffled by the artificial tree. why no real tree?"

"couldn't have real trees in the last days of earth and of course no trees on other planets"

"I suppose, did you wanna keep the little tree? as a memory of home?"

"no it's okay, I'd rather if we want to celebrate something, make out own holidays with our own traditions" she smiled taking the tree and throwing it into the power dissolved

"Alright, it does explain why so much of the Christmas junk is floating around space through"

"it does. but all the Christmas junk shall keep us fueled for a good while"

"It will, and it will fuel while you make us some cookies?" I suggested

"Of course" she smiled giving my cheek a kiss "I'll bake some cookies while you go do another junk search"

"Alright, back soon" I smiled giving her a kiss

The way Kotetsu loves Barnaby though.

Honestly I don’t think he himself knows that yet.

I made a post about Barnaby loving Kotetsu to a degree where he doesn’t even think that he can lie to him. It comes from the fact that Kotetsu is the first person outside of his family that Barnaby can trust, and he has a lot of trust to give once he decides to do so (the fact that it takes him 8 episodes and a near death situation is another thing but once he does he gives it his all and then just never stops. Barnaby’s love for Kotetsu is so obvious that he wears his heart on his sleeve for him and everyone can see it besides Kotetsu).

But the way Kotetsu loves Barnaby is different of course. It’s more subtile, because Barnaby is not his first love so there’s none of that naivitete of “oh we have all the time in the world” (Kotetsu knows that’s not the case, he lost one person he loved already). And he just. Does things for him. Is there for him. Respects his boundaries and tries his best to be what Barnaby needs at that moment.

And he does all that in actions like, making fried rice for him when Barnaby cannot think of that, seeking for the truth behind what really happened. Asking if he’s really okay with the grueling hero work etc.

And it’s like. Kotetsu is so good at hiding his feelings, that he’s mistaken for not caring at all by people who don’t know him. He is so oblivious to them that he’s like “Yeah that’s what partners do” and he is also an idiot, and plays with his stupidity well.

Kotetsu loves Barnaby so much and is so good at hiding it that he’s even got Maverick fooled - that once he’s apprehended he’d give up on him, that he just cares about him bc he’s his partner.

Kotetsu loves Barnaby so much he gives him a nickname that changes everything. And it’s such a 5d chess love language encrypted by societal expectations that nobody pays it any mind, hell even Kotetsu doesn’t think it means a lot.

Kotetsu loves Barnaby so much that he doesn’t try to hug him when Barnaby doesn’t want to, and stops inviting him over for dinner after like tenth time Barnaby declined. But the minute Barnaby expresses interest in going to drinks together Kotetsu holds him to that - because he loves him.

But he doesn’t know that yet.

#westworld #like. imagine that you are literally built. designed. to be dominated by your all consuming love and loyalty and devotion to one person #and this is so deeply embedded in the core of who you are that it is actually physically impossible for you to change that #now imagine feeling all that while knowing it is impossible for them to ever feel the same way about you. #they will never prioritize you the way you do them. they will never be unconditionally and totally in your corner the way you are for them #they will only be able to place your needs above their own occasionally whereas you do it 100% of the time 24/7 without fail #because you have to. because that's how you're built that's who you are. but it's not who they are #you are designed for them to take advantage of and so even if they try not to they literally cannot help but do it #because allowing you to act in the way that feels most natural to you inherently means enabling your total lack of any boundaries #and letting you constantly ignore your own interests in favor of theirs even if you know you're being harmed by it #you desperately want to be with them. you desperately love them and feel overwhelming joy when they are near. #but you also know that being with them is inseparable from being dominated and exploited just by dint of how you relate to them #they might not mean to. they might not want to. they might bitterly regret it. they might try their hardest not to. but they always will #whenever they are with you you become a planet orbiting a sun. and they can't help it and neither can you. #yeah like. actually i love teddy. 😔 #and i love this relationship too. but i find it so confusing that people portray it as wholesome when it's literally the opposite of that #low key i think it's actually one of the darkest and most fucked up relationships in the show #i love the tragic duality of it like the way they can't help but vibe and get along and love each other but also being together is. #just honestly unsustainable after they've left their loops because trying to be their own sentient beings is not compatible w that #i was getting a little emotional when teddy was tearing up just being around xtina in 4x04 because like. #she's essentially his master. she dominates him at all times in all ways literally without even wanting to or meaning to. and he knows that #but he Still Loves Her and he can't help it....... baby boy...... #and she's just instantly charmed by him because he's Built to be charming specifically For Her and To Her...... #it's so fucked up. it's so fucked up and sad but also their dynamic can be so sweet and touching and that's what makes it even more brutal #i actually like it so much. #like if we're picking sports teams it would not be my team. but i do rly love & appreciate it and find it interesting & crunchy & complex #my least favorite thing about it is probably evan and james' chemistry which idk... it just rings a little artificial to me and always has #(more on her end than his tbh. idk why and i won't speculate but it feels like he carries their scenes a little bit to me) #(and im not calling evan a bad actress either bc she's incredible but that kind of thing is just hard to force) #but anyway. the text of the relationship and how it's written is amazing and crunchy and delicious <3
