Vladimir Putin has been ill with cancer for a "long time" and will die "very fast" according to Ukraine's chief of defense intelligence. In an interview Jan 4th, he said sources close to Putin have confirmed Putin has cancer. The new claim from Ukraine comes after Putin cancelled two public events toward the end of 2022, including his annual state address, leading to speculation over his health. Amid swirling rumors over Putin’s health, there have been concerns over who could replace him.

So I followed the Russian coup for most of the time it was active, I think I have a good handle on what happened. The end feels like the last season of a television show where they've been unexpectedly cancelled and the writers decided to make an ending that makes no sense to the actors or the people watching the show.
