So, on 2022’s transgender day of remembrance, there was a mass shooting at a gay club which hosts drag shows (Colorado’s Q Club), which left 18 injured and 5 dead.

I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that this is the direct result of the stark increase of transphobic and homophobic rhetoric and the demonization of drag queens in recent political campaigns.

Nor do I think it was a stretch to say that this was the desired outcome.

The idea they carry in their DNA is more dangerous than a nuclear bomb. This is no more a metaphorical fight between left and right. Evil is getting more organized, and so should we.

My thoughts about the attack against the LGBTQIA+ community in Colorado Springs

Following a Saturday drag show at Club Q in Colorado Springs, Colorado, five people were brutally murdered in a mass shooting and apparent domestic terrorist attack. As of the time of this post, at least seven victims are in critical condition.

Sadly and horrifically, mass murders are often the end result of right-wing politicians and the right-wing media echo chamber stoking hatred and fear of LGBTQIA+ people and the LGBTQIA+ community. The perpetrator of this attack would have likely killed more people had it not been for the patrons who subdued the attacker.

As someone who is openly polysexual, an attack on one member of the LGBTQIA+ community is an attack on the entire LGBTQIA+ community. I am keeping the victims, their families, and those who are still traumatized by past attacks against the LGBTQIA+ community in my thoughts.

The staff and performers of Club Q are struggling financially with the club being shut down. Those who weren't working the night of the shooting are not counted as "victims," so don't have access to the same kinds of support but are nonetheless out of a paycheck.

Del Lusional explained here: "Unfortunately the employees and contractors who were not in the building are still being greatly impacted with the loss of income, these last few shows of the month were gonna help pay rent and utilities for many of us."

Seeing the conversation on the q club shooter being "non-binary" doesn't even matter. Your gender shouldn't lessen the impact you had murdering people that are discriminated against. Just because you are "part" of a community doesn't lessen the charges you have in a crime.
