Crash and Anomaly: Twins

Charcoal, Pebble, and Dove: Triplets

Crash was born mute, so the rest of the quintet uses sign language to speak with him.

Crash and Maly are Norweigian Forest Cats, while Pebble, Charcoal, and Dove, are Russian Blues.

Maly has a New York accent because that's where she and Crash were from originally, and it just never faded.

Charcoal being the tallest of the five means that they usually use him as a lookout, which he wouldn't care about if being the lookout didn't mean having his sisters get on top of his shoulders

Growing up on the streets together made Crash and Maly have a very tight bond, and both get nervous if they can't see each other during cons.

The triplets ran away from the kitten mill they were born at, and only had each other until they met Crash and Maly, so they have a very close bond as well

Because of that, the quintet is a VERY physically affectionate group, and just piles onto each other (with Crash usually at the bottom since he's the fluffiest) when it's time to sleep.

They know of the Jellicles, mainly because of Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer, who they run into from time to time.

The first time Charcoal called Crash "handsome", he walked into a wall.

Their cons are generally harmless, and usually involve stealing food and other things like discarded blankets, fabric, or jewelry that they trade with other street cats. The blankets and jewelry are usually traded with Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer for food or a night in the Junkyard if things aren't going well on the street.

I'm still deciding on whether or not they join the Jellicles. I'm thinking that they remain a relatively neutral group, but Munkustrap allows them to stay within the walls of the Yard whenever they want to.

i rank the jellicle names in the norwegian cats translations

so i recently found a pdf of the norwegian paal brekke translation of old possum’s book of practical cats and i figured hey, i’m not the only lowlife cats stan on tumblr. so why not make a masterlist of all the fucking weird name changes, with rankings and all? so i’ll include the norwegian subtitles for cats 2019, where i can. enjoy. i aged at least a few years while writing this.

first of all, i’ll say that the norwegian title of the book is “to approach a cat”, which is what “the ad-dressing of cats” is called in norwegian. nice!

instead of jellicle, we’ve got “julliko” in the book. not ideal, but not all too bad. in the subtitles for the 2019 movie i saw it captioned as “sjelliker”, which i think is better, but hey, who cares?

moving on to names,

there’s an unnamed cat in the book, named in the naming of cats, called “clotilde”. and i can’t figure out who this is for the life of me.

see, my name is mathilde, and if i had a nickel for every time one of the norwegian translation cats had a name that sounds like or is related to mine, i’d have two nickels. two nickels isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.

anyway.

the next interesting one is “jullikosela”, also from the naming of cats in the book. you guessed it, that’s jellylorum.

moving on to the loml gumbie cat. this is the second time a cat has something vaguely like my name. because instead of gumbie cat, in the book, they say “thilde-katt”. and instead of jennyanydots, it’s “prikkistrippiskrå.” this translates to dotty-stripey-slanted. neat. 10/10. in the movie, they call her annepanneflekk. this means “anne forehead spot”. there’s no translation to gumbie cat, for whatever reason. 0/10. anyway.

grumbuskin and tumblebrutus (god i love these), in the book, are called brannerød (which translates to Firey Red) and Tom L. Brutus. beautiful. 10/10

griddlebone, once again in the book, is called lårelin. which doesn’t… mean anything. i guess it could mean Thigh Linen. let’s not analyze that. 9/10. in the movie he’s called Grillebein. ugh. uncreative. 2/10

moving on, again. rum tum tugger. he’s called Rin Tin Taggen in the book and rum tom tapper in the movie. anyways. 0/10 for both.

you’ve heard of mungojerrie and rumpleteazer? forget em. i only know about Ringoharri and Trompenille. from the book, anyway. 7/10. i like ringoharri. NOT trompenille. the movie is a different story. there, we’re working with burma-harry and rampentussa. 7.5/10.

old deuteronomy is called Gamle Jeronimus in the book, and in the movie they wrote Game Profetikus. king. 10/10 for both.

the great rumpus cat? also known from the book as “Big Cat Ramm”. 0/10

mr. mistoffelees, in the book, is called Master Mistofelis. KING SHIT. although in the movie he was called mister metrøffelis. both of these slap. 10/10

macavity.... i love this one. he’s called Mapyteron. raw as fuck. 10/10. in the 2019 movie, he was called Makkentass. pathetic. 1/10.

gus the theatre cat, in the book, is called Klas, short for Klasparges. cozy. 8/10. however, in the movie, he’s called Gess, short for Aspargess. 2/10. i prefer klas.

grizabella’s not in the book, as we know, but in the movie they called her siam-ella. this slaps, but does it fit the vibe? no. 7/10.

bustopher jones, in the movie, is called bastian bull. i like this one. in the book, he’s dullerik dahl. both nice. 8/10 for both.

SKIMBLESHANKS!!!!!! i love this one. in the movie, he’s called LOKOSJEKK!!!! and i love that name. 10000/10. in the book, he’s bjartenbull. acceptable, only because it’s skimble. 5/10

Still a nice video with great closeups of the last Broadway cast.

I had this Idea this morning (while trying to get knots out of my own stubborn hair) and thought it would be really cute! Hope you enjoy!!

Summary- Clawdenia’s mane is finally coming in and still being fairly young she has no idea how to take proper care of it so her fathers, and a close firend, lend a paw.

Bad Mane Day

It was a normal late spring day in London, the sky was filled with lazy gray clouds, the birds were singing, humans were going about their lives, and the cats of the junkyard were gathered together doing as they do. It was around early afternoon when Clawdenia, a young maine coon queen with sandy colored spotted fur and bright green eyes, joined the others. One look at the young queen and anyone could tell she was in a sour mood, from her hunched posture to her flattened ears the young queen radiated frustration, and it wasn’t very hard to see why.

Much like her father Clawdenia had a mane, it wasn’t as big or full as her father’s yet but it was enough for the inexperienced queen to struggle with taming it on her own. As a result the small collar of thick fur was currently wild and tangled leading to Clawdenia dragging herself from the den in search of her fathers.

Finally she found Tugger sitting on a tire with Calypso helping the other queen with her singing. Calypso, like her twin sister, had the same type of fur but somehow she lucked out on her mane being small and relatively easy to manage, neither of their fathers expected Calypso’s mane to get much fuller than it currently was at half a year old.

“Daddy…”

Tugger looked over at his other daughter and after taking in the state of her mane gave a sympathetic smile.

“Come here kit, I’ll give you a hand.”

Clawdenia gave a small smile going to her father’s other side and laying down. Tugger examined his daughter’s mane, chuckling a little seeing the spots she’d tried to fix herself and remembering learning for himself how hard it could be.

“You tried to get the tangled out?”

Clawdenia nodded giving a shy smile.

“It made it worse.”

Tugger gave her a playful smirk.

“I’ll say it did kit. Okay, hold still.”

Clawdenia settled in letting him start working out the knots and tangles. Tugger had barely begun and Clawdenia was already hating it, she loved her father and all but he had never been the most gentle when it came to grooming, that was a job their papa too great pride and care in. Finally after an unintentionally rough tug at a tangle Clawdenia whined and shook her father off.

“Daddy you’re being too rough!”

Tugger looked worried for a moment before shaking it off with a small smile, he had to remember Clawdenia was still young, her mane while stubborn was still thinner than his own and didn’t need the firm hand his did.

“Sorry kit. You know your papa has experience taming manes with a gentler touch than this old cat, I saw him heading off to visit your aunt and brother.”

Clawdenia gave a relived smile seeing her father wasn’t upset she’d said he’d been too rough in grooming before she briefly pressed their foreheads together with a soft purr before heading off to find her papa. Just as her father had said she found her papa just leaving Bomba’s den smiling and promising to be back soon. Clawdenia went to the tuxedo tom and purred rubbing against him earning a chuckle before he placed his tail under her chin making her look at him.

“Finally decided to leave the den Denia?”

The female maine coon nodded giving a shy smile.

“I was trying to fix my mane, it didn’t go well.”

Misto smiled fondly looking over his daughter’s mane, he could see not only her handy work but also Tugger’s.

“I can see that, your dad tried to help didn’t he?”

Clawdenia nodded.

“Yeah but he was being too rough.”

Misto nodded, licking his daughter’s head.

“He’s not used to being gentle, his mane is thicker than yours and needs a less than gentle touch. Come on, I'll give you some help.”

Clawdenia smiled thankfully and followed her papa back to their den. It took almost an hour but by the end of it Misto had groomed out all the tangles and dirt leaving the collar of fur looking perfect. Clawdenia beamed at her papa nuzzling his cheek.

“Thank you papa!”

Misto chuckled, licking her head.

“Of course kit. Now shall we join everyone else?”

The young queen nodded and followed her papa back to the gathering space. As they made their way to Tugger and Calypso Clawdenia heard someone calling her name making her pause and smile seeing Heidi, Rumpleteazer’s adopted kitten, walking over. The young queen stopped and once Heidi was close enough, gave the other queen a charming smile.

“Hey Heid.”

The other queen gave a bashful smile and giggle before clearing her throat, making Clawdenia raise a brow at her but wait.

“Umm w-well Denia I was..um...I was wondering if you’d l-like to go on a w-walk with me.”

Slowly the maine coon’s smile returned and she swished her fluffy tail moving to the smaller queen’s side earning a sheepish smile and a faint blush.

“Sure, I think a walk sounds nice.”

Heidi’s smile widened as she watched Clawdenia look at her fathers, getting a nod of approval from both, before the pair headed off on their walk. It was around sunset when the two young queens reached the south most wall of the junkyard, the stars were just starting to twinkle to life in the darkening sky while the setting sun looked like it was setting the horizon on fire. The pair sat watching the sky for a long moment before Heidi took a deep breath and faced the maine coon queen flicking her tail nervously.

“Denia, I w-wanted to ask you s-something.”

Clawdenia gave her most charming smile, she felt a small swell of pride seeing the other queen blush a bit before the white and orange queen shook her head and closed her eyes.

“Would you go to the ball with me?!”

Clawdenia blinked a bit surprised by the sudden question before she smiled softly curling her tail under the other queen’s chin making Heidi open her eyes and meet the soft green orbs looking at her.

“It would be my pleasure Heidi.”

Heidi’s eyes brimmed with tears before she gave a watery laugh launching herself at the other queen earning a laugh as they tumbled to the ground giggling and purring. After a moment Clawdenia looked down at her mane and pouted seeing it was messed up.

“Not again.”

Heidi looked confused before following the other queen’s eyes and gave a soft smile.

“Your mane. Here sit up.”

Clawdenia raised a brow but did as she was told before her eyes widened as Heidi began softly grooming the messed up collar of fur easily clearing it of dirt and tangles without much pulling. Once it was done Heidi smiled proudly and Clawdenia gave her a completely charmed smile leaning down and licking her cheek softly.

“Thank you darling.”

Clawdenia couldn’t help but chuckle as Heidi’s eyes practically bugged out of her head and her face went bright red, she looked ready to faint making the maine coon queen chuckle and pull her close.

“Hey no passing out, we still have to go back to the others.”

Heidi took a moment before she relaxed and smiled with a nodd. With that the pair made their way back to the gathering area with bright smiles and twined tails.

Why I like them: I just... he’s so perfect. I literally love him so much, he always makes me happy. 

Why I don’t: I would take a bullet for him, he has literally never done anything wrong in his entire life.

Favorite episode (scene if movie): When he hangs out with Asparagus Jr. during Skimbleshanks’ song in the 1998 movie! All those moments are basically the entire reason I hc that Asparagus and Jellylorum adopted Tumblebrutus and Pouncival when they were kittens!

Favorite season/movie: 1998, of course! I have yet to see solid confirmation footage of him in the 2019 movie, though 2019 Coricopat is my Tumblebrutus 😌 my precious boy with two braincells, I love him very much.

Favorite outfit: 1998 Tumblebrutus and 2016 Tumblebrutus are both tied for first place, but for second place, Gothenburg Tumblebrutus owns my heart with his blue fur and being all wonderful, but I’ve got to say, Opera Populaire knew what they were doing making Bill Bailey a gorgeous lady. I don’t know her name but I love her.

OTP: ✨Tumblebrutus/Hestia✨ I feel kind of bad, honestly, because I don’t have any of the canon cats that I pair with Tumblebrutus? I like Tumblebrutus because of Hestia, so... yeah

Brotp: Tumblebrutus, Pouncival, and Ares, Tumblebrutus and Alonzo, Tumblebrutus, Mungojerrie, and Rumpleteazer, Tumblebrutus, Sekhmet and Jubilee, Tumblebrutus, Pouncival, and Jemima. When they were kittens, Tumblebrutus, Pouncival, Hestia, and Jemima were basically chaos incarnate.

Head Canon: Alonzo is Tumblebrutus and Pouncival’s biological older brother, and Tumblebrutus actually has quite a close relationship with Cassandra. She’s basically his other mother figure in the tribe besides Jellylorum. Cassandra is very fond of Tumblebrutus and Pouncival, and when they were young kittens, she’d tell them all kinds of stories about her time living in Egypt with Amunet.

My nickname for them: I usually use Tumble, but in fics where I’m writing Tumbletta, I use “Brutus” or “Patches”, because Hestia and Tumblebrutus are gross and mushy like that and I love them.

Favorite episode (scene if movie): I know it’s not included, but the gif from the 1998 movie, right before the Jellicle Ball, of Jemima and him?? Literally makes my heart melt every time I see it, and we were robbed of more Munkudad content from the 1998 movie.

Favorite season/movie: 1998 is my favorite, but I do love Robbie’s version of Munkustrap in the 2019 movie quite a bit. He definitely did Munkustrap justice, and I loved his interactions with the other Jellicles.

Favorite line: “A long time before Queen Victoria’s accession.” The way he interactions with Victoria?? MY HC OF THIS BEING VICTORIA’S WEDDING/BALL IS VALIDATED EVERY TIME I WATCH THIS SCENE BYEEEEE

Favorite outfit: Kilworth Munkustrap or Opera Populaire Munkustrap are both god-tier Munkustraps, that’s all I have to say.

OTP: Munkustrap/Demeter, Silver and Gold, my king and queen, we love them, they’re icons, I’ll stan them forever.

Brotp: Munkustrap and Tugger, Munkustrap and Alonzo, Munkustrap, Bombalurina, and Mistoffelees, Munkustrap, Jennyanydots, and Jellylorum, because Munkustrap needs his knitting groups, and if you think Bomba and Misto don’t join Munkustrap, Jennyanydots, and Jellylorum at least once a week to gossip, you’re wrong.

Head Canon: When Munkustrap refuses to rest, Tugger will basically just flop on top of his brother, and it turns into a giant cuddle pile. The kicker is when Jemima cuddles up next to her dad, and Munkustrap knows he can’t refuse his daughter, so he resigns himself to an afternoon of napping.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t really have an OT3 for Munkustrap? I know there are some OT3 ships for him, but I really, really just love Munkustrap/Demeter.
