This is the fascinating and miraculous story about the conversion of the Iberian (eastern Georgian) Kingdom to Christianity at the beginning of the fourth century. The missionary who converted the entire country was not a bishop supported by the royal government or an abbot from a great monastery. The conversion of Iberia is ascribed to a young itinerant female ascetic who came and settled in the capital city of Iberia. The legend of St. Nino relates how a young female ‘captive’ persuaded the king and the queen of this foreign land and their people to accept the teachings of Christ. However, this story is not only about Nino – it is about women. The major characters in the late antique and medieval accounts concerning Nino are female ascetics who not only compete with men, but overcome them with their spiritual strength and ascetic vigor.

I'm bored, so that's my vision on Nikolai (reboot ver.) Just random things without much depth and explanation
Was born on August 2, 1971 in Russia, in a small town near the military base. His father is Russian, capitan of tank division, his mother is from Tatarstan, she was a military nurse when she met her future husband.
Nikolai is a firstborn, has a younger sister (Anna) and had a brother (Miron), who was killed in 2005
Nikolai knows Russian (native) Tatar ( kinda-sorta native, C1) English (C1) Georgian (B2) Arabic (B1)
His mom begged her husband to name their first child a Tatar name, so her side of the family would be satisfied. I won't tell you what name they had picked. But it sure starts with N
He's an Orthodox Christian, so his younger siblings, was baptized in the name of Saint Nicholas, that's where "Nikolai" is from
His family moved a lot from base to base, according to where his father was being deployed. Nik changed at least 3 schools during his childhood, he made few friends here and there, still visits them on leaves when he has time
Was good at languages, physics and math in school. Had been reading about aviation a lot in his free time.
He haven't got into uni, instead got drafted into the USSR army, was serving without a fuss until he expressed dissatisfaction with the foreign policy of the USSR, and was recruited by MI6 as an informant. His father already retired at that point. That time he really struggled to keep in touch with his family.
In 2000 his sister married her fiance from Georgia, and in the same year Nik became an uncle to their firstborn son Mikel Mzechvili, in 2001 his niece Nino was born, then in 2004 - Gogi (my oc). In 2005 Natela was born and the last one to come was Davit, in 2006. All of the kids were born in Georgia, but often visited their grandparents in Russia
Just two days after Natela was born, Miron was killed at his friend's wedding. Nikolai couldn't make it to his funeral, because of the work overseas, this still haunts him.
After retiring from the army, he became an "adjuster" with valuable connections at the highest level and in the criminal world.
He met Laswell through MI-6 on one of the missions, she then introduced him to Price after some time that Nik and Kate spent working together. He was in his mid-20 at that time
Nikolai took Gogi under his wing when he got kicked out of uni, but was too scared to be drafted into the Russian army (because at that time he was a Russian citizen for a studying purpose). Nik, on the other hand, was scared that Makarov might get to him through his nephew, so after some time spent on bureaucracy he enlisted Gogi in UK army.
Knows a lot of "new Russians" Got a lot of intel and financial support from them (like, where the hell he would get a damn TANK or a helicopter??? Exactly!)

Martyrdom of the Great-martyr George of Georgia
Commemorated on November 10
Your holy martyr George, O Lord, through his sufferings has received an incorruptible crown from You, our God. For having Your strength, he laid low his adversaries, and shattered the powerless boldness of demons. Through his intercessions, save our souls!
Celebrated by the whole Christian world, Great-martyr George was slain by Emperor Diocletian in the year 303.
The holy martyr is appropriately considered the intercessor for all Christians and the patron saint of many. He is regarded with special reverence among the Georgian people, since he is believed to be the special protector of their nation. Historical accounts often describe how Saint George appeared among the Georgian soldiers in the midst of battles.
The majority of Georgian churches (in villages especially) were built in his honor and, as a result, every day there is a feast of the great-martyr George somewhere in Georgia. The various daily commemorations are connected to one of the churches erected in his name or an icon or a particular miracle he performed.
November 10 marks the day on which Saint George was tortured on the wheel. According to tradition, this day of commemoration was established by the holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Nino, the Enlightener of Georgia. Saint Nino was a relative of Saint George the Trophy-bearer.
She revered him deeply and directed the people she had converted to Christianity to cherish him as their special protector.

HOLY PROPHET MALACHI (400 B.C.)
Tumblr media
The Holy Prophet Malachi lived 400 years before the Birth of Christ, at the time of the return of the Jews from the Babylonian Captivity. Malachi was the last of the Old Testament prophets, therefore the holy Fathers call him “the seal of the prophets.”
Manifesting himself an image of spiritual goodness and piety, he astounded the nation and was called Malachi, i.e., an angel. His prophetic book is included in the Canon of the Old Testament. In it he upbraids the Jews, foretelling the coming of Jesus Christ and His Forerunner, and also the Last Judgment (Mal 3:1-5; 4:1-6).
VENERABLE EUTHYMIUS (TAQAISHVILI) THE MAN OF GOD OF TBILISI (1953)
Tumblr media
Saint Ekvtime (Euthymius) Taqaishvili, called the “Man of God,” was born January 3, 1863, in the village of Likhauri, in the Ozurgeti district of Guria, to the noble family of Svimeon Taqaishvili and Gituli Nakashidze. He was orphaned at a young age and raised by his uncle.       From early childhood St. Ekvtime demonstrated a great passion for learning. Having completed his studies at the village grammar school, he enrolled at Kutaisi Classical High School. In 1883 he graduated with a silver medal and moved to St. Petersburg to continue his studies in the department of history-philology at St. Petersburg University. In 1887, having successfully completed his studies and earned a degree in history, St. Ekvtime returned to Georgia and began working in the field of academia. His profound faith and love for God and his motherland determined his every step in this demanding and admirable profession.       In 1895 Ekvtime married Nino Poltoratskaya, daughter of the famous Tbilisi attorney Ivan Poltoratsky, who was himself a brother in-law and close friend of St. Ilia Chavchavadze the Righteous. From the very beginning of his career St. Ekvtime began to collect historical-archaeological and ethnographical materials from all over Georgia. His sphere of scholarly interests was broad, including historiography, archaeology, ethnography, epigraphy, numismatics, philology, folklore, linguistics, and art history. Above all, St. Ekvtime strove to learn more about Georgian history and culture by applying the theories and methodologies of these various disciplines to his work.
In 1889 St. Ekvtime established the Exarchate Museum of Georgia, in which were preserved ancient manuscripts, sacred objects, theological books, and copies of many important frescoes that had been removed from ancient churches. This museum played a major role in rediscovering the history of the Georgian Church.       In 1907 St. Ekvtime founded the Society for Georgian History and Ethnography. Of the many expeditions organized by this society, the journey through Muslim (southwestern) Georgia was one of the most meaningful. Having witnessed firsthand the aftermath of the forced isolation and Islamization of this region, St. Ekvtime and his fellow pilgrims acquired a greater love for the Faith of their forefathers and became more firmly established in their national identity. Though they no longer spoke the Georgian language, the residents of this region received the venerable Ekvtime with great respect, having sensed from his greeting and kindness that he had come from their far-off motherland.       There was not a single patriotic, social or cultural movement in Georgia during the first quarter of the 20th century in which St. Ekvtime did not actively take part. Among his other important achievements, he was one of the nine professors who founded Tbilisi University in 1918. St. Ekvtime also vigorously advocated the restoration of the autocephaly of the Georgian Orthodox Church.       On March 11, 1921, the Georgian government went into exile in France. The government archives and the nation’s spiritual and cultural treasures were also flown to France for protection from the Bolshevik danger. St. Ekvtime was personally entrusted to keep the treasures safe, and he and his wife accompanied them on their flight to France. St. Ekvtime bore the hardships of an emigrant’s life and the horrors of World War II with heroism, while boldly resisting the onslaught of European and American scholars and collectors and the claims of other Georgian emigrants to their “family relics.”       In 1931 St. Ekvtime’s wife, Nino, his faithful friend and companion, died of starvation. The elderly widower himself often drew near to the brink of death from hunger, cold, and stress, but he never faltered in his duty before God and his motherland—he faithfully protected his nation’s treasures.       The perils were great for St. Ekvtime and the treasures he protected: British and American museums sought to purchase the Georgian national artifacts; a certain Salome Dadiani, the widow of Count Okholevsky, declared herself the sole heir of the Georgian national treasure; during World War II the Nazis searched St. Ekvtime’s apartment; even the French government claimed ownership of the Georgian treasures.
Finally, the Soviet victory over fascist Germany created conditions favorable for the return of the national treasures to Georgia. According to an agreement between Stalin and De Gaulle, the treasures and their faithful protector were loaded onto an American warplane and flown back to their motherland on April 11, 1945. When he finally stepped off the plane and set foot on Georgian soil, St. Ekvtime bowed deeply and kissed the earth where he stood. Georgia greeted its long-lost son with great honor. The people overwhelmed St. Ekvtime with attention and care, restored his university professorship, and recognized him as an active member of the Academy of Sciences. They healed the wounds that had been inflicted on his heart.
Tumblr media
Exhausted by the separation from his motherland and the woes of emigration, St. Ekvtime rejoined society with the last of his strength. But mankind’s enemy became envious of the victory of good over evil and rose up against St. Ekvtime’s unshakable spirit. In 1951 the Chekists arrested his stepdaughter, Lydia Poltoratskaya. St. Ekvtime, who by that time was seriously ill, was now left without his caregiver. In 1952, without any reasonable explanation, St. Ekvtime was forbidden to lecture at the university he himself had helped to found, and he was secretly placed under house arrest. The people who had reverently greeted him upon his return now trembled in fear of his persecution and imminent death. Many tried to visit and support St. Ekvtime, but they were forbidden. On February 21, 1953, St. Ekvtime died of a heart attack, and three days later a group of approximately forty mourners accompanied the virtuous prince to his eternal resting place.       On February 10, 1963, the centennial of St. Ekvtime’s birth, his body was reburied at the Didube Pantheon in Tbilisi. When his grave was uncovered, it was revealed that not only his body, but even his clothing and footwear had remained incorrupt. St. Ekvtime’s relics were moved once again, to the Pantheon at the Church of St. Davit of Gareji on Mtatsminda, where they remain today.       The body of Nino Poltoratskaya-Taqaishvili was brought from Leville (France) and buried next to St. Ekvtime on February 22, 1987.       The Holy Synod of the Georgian Apostolic Orthodox Church canonized St. Ekvtime on October 17, 2002, and joyously proclaimed him a “Man of God.”

1 PETER 3:10-22
10 For "He who would love life And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit. 11 Let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him seek peace and pursue it. 12 For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil." 13 And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? 14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed. "And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled." 15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 16 having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed. 17 For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. 18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, 19 by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, 20 who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. 21 There is also an antitype which now saves us-baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.
MATTHEW 10:16-22
16 Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. 17 But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues. 18 You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. 19 But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; 20 for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. 21 Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. 22 And you will be hated by all for My name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.

Today we celebrate the Holy Nina, Equal to the Apostles and Enlightener of Georgia. Saint Nina (or Nino) was born in Cappadocia of Asia Minor and was a relative of Saint George the Great Martyr. When Nina was twelve years old, her parents sold their possessions and moved to Jerusalem. Her parents became monastics and Nina was placed in the care of an old lady who raised her in Christian piety. From this lady, Nina learned that the Robe that the Most Holy Theotokos had woven for Christ to wear had ended up in the then-pagan Georgia. Saint Nina prayed to the Theotokos, asking for her blessing that she might travel to Georgia and be made worthy to venerate the Sacred Robe of Christ. That night, the Theotokos appeared to Nina in a dream saying to go and preach the Gospel of Christ to the Georgian people, and she promised that Christ would send down His grace upon her and be her protector. Astonished, Nina asked how she, a fragile woman, could perform such a wondrous task, but the Theotokos in reply gave her a cross made out of grapevines which she tied together with her own hair and said that it would act as a shield against the visible and invisible enemies. Nina, filled with tears of joy, visited the Patriarch Juvenal of Jerusalem and sought his blessing to preach the Gospel in Georgia. He recited some prayers over the young virgin and gave her his blessing. When Saint Nina finally arrived in Georgia after much trouble in Rome during Diocletian’s rule, she observed that the pagans showed so much awe and reverence before their idols, which saddened the saint greatly. She then prayed that the Lord might send down His mercy upon them and turn them to Him, and immediately a violent wind began to blow and hail fell from the sky, shattering the pagan idols. Saint Nina took refuge in a bramble bush in the garden of the king with the gardener and his wife. Nina prayed for the couple as they were barren and the gardener’s wife fell pregnant. Thus, the couple accepted Christ and became the disciples of Saint Nina. Converting people by the thousands, Saint Nina even healed the terminally ill Queen Nana after she confessed Christ as God. SAINTS JANUARY 15
St. Francisco Fernandez de Capillas, Roman Catholic Martyr Spanish missionary who became the first Catholic martyr in China after he was beheaded in Fu'an, Fujian in China. Feastday Jan 15
St. Blaithmaic, 823 A.D. Irish abbot who sought martyrdom among the Danes, he went to England and encountered the Danes and was murdered on the altar steps of the abbey church at lona.
St. Ita. was reputedly of royal lineage. She was born at Decies, Waterford, Ireland, refused to be married, and secured her father's permission to live a virginal life. She moved to Killeedy, Limerick, and founded a community of women dedicated to God. She also founded a school for boys, and one of her pupils was St. Brendan. Many extravagant miracles were attributed to her (in one of them she is reputed to have reunited the head and body of a man who had been beheaded; in another she lived entirely on food from heaven), and she is widely venerated in Ireland. She is also known as Deirdre and Mida.
St. Teath. Possibly a daughter of Brychan of Brecknock in Wales. A Cornwall church bears her name. She may also be St. Ita.
St. Sawl, 6th century. Welsh chieftain and the father of St. Asaph, the great Welsh saint
St. Ceolwulf, 764 A.D. King of Northumbria, England, and patron of St. Bede. He resigned in 738 and became a monk at Lindisfame. St. Bede dedicated his Ecclesiastical History to “the most gracious King Ceolwulf.”
St. Liewellyn & Gwrnerth, 6th century. Welsh monks of Welshpool and Bardsey, Wales.
St. Lleudadd, 6th century. Welsh abbot, companion of St. Cadfan to Brittany, France, also listed as Laudatus. He was formerly the abbot of Bardsey, in Gwynedd, Wales.
St. Nina, Roman Catholic laywoman. Scholars believe she was a slave to whom the name Nino (the Georgian form of Nina) was given; she has also been identified as Christiana. The quiet piety of her life and her preaching converted many people, and when she cured Queen Nana of a seemingly incurable disease, Nina converted the queen. When King Mirian also became a Christian, he sent to Constantinople for bishops and priests. Nina continued to preach throughout Georgia until her death at Bodke. A church dedicated to the memory of St. George was built on the site of her grave. Feastday Jan 15
ST PAUL, THE FIRST HERMIT. Very little is known about St Paul, who is recognized as the first Christian hermit. A nobleman from Egypt, he fled to the desert during the persecution of Decius. According to tradition, his cell is found on Mt Sinai. He died at a very old age, after more than 90 years of solitary life. Jan 15

Of Ironies and Little Birds
‘‘I just noticed something.’‘ Nino declared as though she had found the meaning of life, staring at the fogged up window and the clumsily scribbled letters there. She half turned around to look at the man laying down beside her, nestled against her on the small bed to the wall, staring up with an amused albeit sleepy expression,
‘‘Your name.’‘
‘‘My name?’‘ he raised a brow, propping his head on an arm and glancing at the window himself, ‘’What of it?’‘
‘‘Well it’s...very stupid. What’s on my mind. Not your name. I just thought. Mandalorian. Torian. Torian the Mandalorian. Just one letter difference.’’ to prove her very logical point, Nino added the necessary letters to complete the word, ‘’See?’’
He chuckled at that, sitting up to put his chin on her shoulder, and pulling the blanket up with him to wrap them both in a warm cocoon ‘’Only in Basic.’’ he quickly wrote Mando’ad under her invention. No rhymes at all.
‘’I warned you it was stupid.’’ Nino leaned against him, looking at her ‘artwork’ ‘’Well...Maybe they considered Basic as well? - Don’t laugh! I’m not joking. No? Who named you anyway?’’
His warm breath ghosted over her bare arm as his laughs died down to give way to a deep sigh and momentarily Nino regretted having asked anything at all.
‘‘Think it was my mother.’‘ he said after a moment, carefully tracing her name over the fog right beside his, in right letters, ‘’What I was told anyway.’‘
Nino hummed thoughtfully, ‘’Well it’s a pretty name. And I also noticed your fath..-Jicoln’s name and yours both end with an N sound. Was this intentional?’’
‘‘Why are you noticing things in the middle of the night?’ he sounded amused and bewildered both and not strained much to Nino’s relief. She was more relaxed than she had even been in her life and it apparently resulted in her blurting everything without much thought. And for her tactless speech, she blamed him too. I’m becoming a bloody human.
‘’No. A lot of names end with N.’‘
‘‘Why?’‘
‘‘Because.’‘ he chuckled again, nuzzling against the cold skin of her jaw, ‘‘I have no idea, really.’‘
‘‘What does your name mean then? Does it mean anything?’’ Nino asked again, despite the moonlight leaking from the windows and the invitingly soft mattress, she didn't want to sleep at all, dragging out the conversation as long as she could. She felt guilty however when he let out a large yawn,
‘’ You should know the word but I’ll go easy for once. Tor. Justice.‘’ he said, sounding distinctively bitter all of a sudden ‘’Ironic huh?’‘
Nino didn’t dare say anything to that, merely turning her head slightly to kiss his temple and he sighed again, pressing against her tighter,
‘‘Well... My name is pretty ironic too when you look at it’‘ Nino said, trying to change the subject, ‘It literally means Little Bird.’‘
‘‘...Seriously?’‘
‘‘Yes.’‘ Nino smiled, remembering her brother, her home on a far away frozen colony and most pleasant bits of her earlier life all at once before the ones she dreaded came rushing in, ‘‘It’s a childhood nickname. People usually outgrow those.’‘
‘‘But not you.’‘
‘‘No.’‘she shook her head, ‘‘It was my mother’s nickname for me so I decided to make it my own.’‘
‘‘Good call.’‘ he looked at their almost faded names written on the window again, smiling for a moment, ‘Fits you well.’‘
‘‘Seriously?’‘ Nino repeated his earlier remark, ‘’Little bird?’’
‘‘Maybe not so little.’‘ he squeezed his arms around her tightly with one hand boldly grasping her thigh and shrugged, ‘‘You do fly.’‘
This time Nino chuckled, remembering her attempts at using her jetpack, ‘If you could call it that.’’
>>’’My little bird.’’<< he cooed, uncharacteristically goofy in drowsiness and Nino leaned back, utterly horrified,
>>’’Say it in public and I’m obligated to kill you.’’<<
>>’’Definitely.’’<< he yawned again, ‘’What’s your full name?’’
‘‘In Cheunh you mean?’‘
‘‘Yeah.’‘ he nodded, ‘‘I know your name..Uh..- Core name. Shat..-Shatri’‘
‘‘Shatrani.’‘ Nino felt strange uttering that long - and thankfully- forgotten name, ‘‘I’ll write it but don’t expect me to read it.’‘
‘‘Deal.’‘
Again feeling oddly detached she wrote what was her whole identity just near a decade ago, her mother’s house went first, and most easily, then her given name, then her father’s house and the one they belonged to and then her husband's name. Dead husband’s. One she had supposedly killed.
‘‘Ta-da.’‘ she gestured to the comically long line - even for chiss standards, ‘’That’s me.’’
‘‘Nope.’‘ he gestured to one he had written... - Nino ‘‘That’s you.’‘
‘‘That’s...correct actually. One way to look at it.’‘ She gave a deep breath, though it was said in simple words, the meaning was all the same. She was basically not the same person she once had been. Not at all. Not even physically. That woman was dead. Long gone. As childish was the thought she felt a bit easier to breathe. A bit less weighed down.
And she didn’t notice she was thinking out loud before he cuddled her firmly with a firm promise, something that could sound absurd coming from anyone else’s mouth. It somehow...fit him,
 >>’’With you all the way. No matter what.’’<<

St PROCORUS ABBOT IN VRANSKI DESERT ON THE RIVER PCHINJA ( Bulgaria_10th.C.)
Tumblr media
Saint Prochorus ( Prokhor)of Pshina pursued asceticism in the Bransk wilderness at the River Pshina, and he founded a monastery there. He is renowned as one of the great ascetics of monastic life. He died at the end of the tenth century. Miracles occurred from the saint’s relics. According to the Serbian Chronicles, the pious King Milutin (1276-1320) built a church in honor of Saint Prochorus.
ST. SALOME OF UDJARMA, AND ST. PEROZHAVRA OF SIVNIA ((4th c.).
Saints Salome of Ujarma and Perozhavra of Sivnia were the helpers and closest companions of St. Nino, Enlightener of Georgia. St. Nino herself had converted them to the Christian Faith.       Salome was the wife of Revi, the son of King Mirian, and Perozhavra was married to the ruler of the Kartli region. Both women were queens, but they succeeded in serving St. Nino while retaining their imperial roles. St. Nino taught them to pray, and the0women fasted regularly and performed good works. As a result of their influential social status, the two queens were able to help St. Nino tremendously in spreading the Christian Faith.       After the conversion of Kartli, with inspiration from St. Nino and by the order of King Mirian, St. Salome erected a cross in Ujarma in the Kakheti region.

When St. Nino fell ill in the village of Bodbe, the queens Salome and Perozhavra stood by her bed and wept bitterly at having to part with their beloved teacher and healer. They entreated St. Nino, who was finishing her last hours on this earth, saying, “Tell us, our Queen, how did you come to our country to free our souls, and where were you raised? Tell us how to continue your good works. You who have delivered us from bondage to the enemy, tell us, what shall we do?”       From the information that St. Nino then related to them, Sts. Salome and Perozhavra wrote The Life of St. Nino, Enlightener of Georgia. The Apostolic Orthodox Church of Georgia commemorates them on January 15, the day following the commemoration of St. Nino.

COLOSSIANS 3:12-16
12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
MATTHEW 28:16-20
16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.
