So, I was stumbling over a headline like
and thought something like "largest rocket ever, eh?"
Tumblr media
Well. And then I learned that this largest rocket ever e x p l o d e d on its first flight. Gosh. If this was fiction, I'd find it so very darn blatant.
But even as fiction, it would still be so. very. darn. funny!

SpaceX illegally fired workers criticising Elon Musk
A US employment agency accused satellite manufacturer SpaceX on Wednesday of unlawful dismissal of eight employees for distributing a letter that called founder and CEO Elon Musk “distraction and embarrassment,” Reuters informed.
A regional official with the National Labour Relations Board (NLRB) filed the complaint, saying SpaceX violated the employees’ rights under federal labour law to unite and advocate for better working conditions.
The letter, sent to SpaceX executives in June 2022, focused on a series of tweets Musk had made since 2020, many of which were sexual in nature. Employees claimed Musk’s statements did not comply with the company’s policies on diversity and misconduct in the workplace and called on SpaceX to condemn them.
The complaint also accuses SpaceX of questioning employees about the letter, humiliating the employees involved and threatening to fire employees who engaged in similar activities.
Deborah Lawrence, one of the fired employees, stated that SpaceX had a “toxic culture” in which harassment, especially against women, was tolerated.

Why do SpaceX rockets look so bad? They're not cool! The Saturn V looked cool. The Space Shuttle looked cool. The Russian Soyuz and the Chinese Long March rockets look cool, as do their respective Soyuz and Taingong capsules. The SpaceX Starship looks like a little kid drew it after watching old cartoons. It looks a 4th grade science diorama made out of paper towel rolls and tin foil. It looks like a bottle rocket you'd fill with a garden hose and a bike pump. Did any actual engineers design it, or did the muskrat copy some concept art from the studio that owns Flash Gordon?

Weekly output: Symbotic, Most Innovative Companies in robotics, Redwood Materials, Most Innovative Companies in manufacturing, Matter security label, SpaceX and Starship, AT&T and AST SpaceMobile, Android 15, Waymo, This Week in Tech
If you’ve been wondering why it’s been so long since I last had a byline with Fast Company, here’s your answer: I’ve spent a non-trivial part of the last three months helping to put together the robotics and manufacturing parts of the publication’s Most Innovative Companies list. (In my nonexistent spare time, I also wrote a post for Patreon readers about my roadmap to getting our house off the…

 Ellie in Space interview
Ellie in Space interviewed two guys who know what they are talking about. They talked about how, after the second launch of the Starship, SpaceX had less than half the things to fix than they had after the first launch. Hopefully, after the third launch, SpaceX won’t have anything to fix because it needs to reach orbit… If the third launch of Starship reaches orbit and both the Booster and…

SpaceX Launches Starship Rocket Into Space on 3rd Test Flight
SpaceX's Starship megarocket, the world's largest and most powerful rocket, reached orbital speed for the first time Thursday in a historic third test flight from South Texas.
Hundreds of Spring Break spectators, rocket launch chasers and SpaceX fans gathered along the southern shores of South Padre Island and surrounding areas to witness the third test flight of the biggest rocket ever built. About 5 miles (8 kilometers) south of the crowds, SpaceX's massive Starship vehicle lifted off this morning (March 14) at 9:25 a.m. EDT (1325 GMT) from the company's manufacturing and test launch facilities near Boca Chica Beach.
"Starship reached orbital velocity," SpaceX founder Elon Musk announced on X (formerly Twitter) after liftoff. "Congratulations SpaceX team!!" The launch occurred on the 22nd anniversary of SpaceX's founding in 2002, the company said.
Neither the Starship vehicle nor its Super Heavy booster survived all the way through to their intended splashdown, but SpaceX officials said the test flight achieved several of its key goals during the flight.

SpaceX Starship second test flight bombs in huge blowup for Elon Musk
SpaceX Starship’s second test flight bombed like the first one as it lost contact with the ground control minutes after launch, forcing the company to blow up the most powerful spacecraft ever mid-mission, adding to Elon Musk’s losses, as his X platform is currently grappling with an exodus of major advertisers. Shortly after, SpaceX encountered difficulty reestablishing communication with…
