#THEY'RE BOTH SELFISH. BOTH OF THEM!!!
"When Sylvie is cold and unapproachable, it's because she's an AWFUL MEAN BITCH. But when Loki is cold and unapproachable, it's because he's a sad puppy ;_;"
Look, I tend to prefer male characters in shows and games and such too, but like, do yall hear yourselves,,
They're BOTH Loki, they both act like this, they just come from different stories, but they're all LOKI.

i think tim is possessive in the way that he wants to monopolize bernard's attention but bernard is possessive in the way that he wants to monopolize all of tim's emotions. like if tim could he'd replace all the breath in bear's lungs with his own so with every exhale, bernard would only think tim, tim, tim. but bear wants to be the sole recipient of tim's emotions. he wants to keep every smile, every tear, every frown to himself. he wants all of that to only be his. but tim belongs to so many people unlike bear who only belongs to tim. so he settles with the way tim laughs so hard that he snorts, at his corny jokes, at home. he settles with the frown that appears on his face as he works out the kinks in a new WE proposal. bernard lets himself be content with the way tim looks when he's hovering over him -- flushed and panting, tears building up in the corners of tim's eyes. at least this, he thinks reaching out to caress his boyfriend's face, at least this is mine. only mine.

another thing I like about Chlonette is the fact one of them gives too much, and one of them takes too much.
Marinette gives too much of herself to other people, be it as her or Ladybug. She gives and gives and gives. It's concerning sometimes but it's kind of second nature to her.
Give. Be kind. Help.
Meanwhile, Chloe takes and takes. Takes a lot of power, takes a lot of time from her friends, takes a lot of things she can't promise. It's how she grew up, it's how she's taught to survive.
Take. Be one step ahead. Win.
But then it's them facing each other. Marinette tries giving and Chloe tries taking. But what could Marinette give to her rival? Pastries? She has money for that. Gifts? She could just order her butler. Friendship? She's...not sure but she tries.
Chloe tries to take it. She can't.
She tries again but it keeps slipping off her fingertips. She's getting frustrated, what was she doing wrong?! She was doing everything the people around her taught and did and yet she couldn't take what Marinette was giving. She couldn't keep it.
Marinette is getting agitated. Chloe isn't taking what she's giving and it feels wrong and strange. So she tries again and again, and again.
There's a boundary and suddenly they're more distant than close.
Chloe starts giving, but only to her. Only to Marinette. She starts giving what she has which she's aware isn't much. She looks down at her hands and she wished she wore her heart more on her sleeve.
And Marinette? She takes what she's given. She takes and takes. Even if it's small, even if it hurts a bit.

It's always weird when people are like, "Oh, you being [x minority] made me stop hating/reconsider my bigotry toward [minority]!"
Not only is it weird from the standpoint of "wow, you hated me?" but it's weird to know that you displayed some type of behaviour that proved your humanity to them, and that if you stop displaying that behaviour for any reason, it's possible they'll just slide back into their hatred because they haven't fundamentally challenged why they hated you and your people.
It's fine to grow out of your bigotry, yes, but I'm completely understanding of people being weary of those who are so brazen about how much they hated people like you.

Anakin and Bo-Katan are so similar that there's no WAY they like each other because their similarities are all in their worst qualities. They're both ridiculously arrogant and competitive and tend to use violence as a first resort. None of that pairs well together with someone else who also has those traits. Anakin and Bo-Katan hate each other SO MUCH and would desperately love to kill the other if given the opportunity (if Anakin is Darth Vader in the scenario, he would just kill her anyway and does not need to wait for an opportunity).
You'd think they'd be able to connect over being violent warmongering traitorous assholes, but they're both so busy trying to pretend they're NOT violent warmongering traitorous assholes while simultaneously blaming the other person for being a violent warmongering traitorous asshole that they just never get anywhere.

my hot take on Lizzie: the Musical is that the love story becomes infinitely more compelling the more actors/the production lean into Alice's flaws and selfishness rather than presenting her as some fragile little flower who's the voice of reason (tag novel below)

I can't believe they put my boy Mytho "does fucked up shit to himself because his entire identity and self image relies on being loved(in the right way by the right people)" and my girl Rue "does fucked up shit to everyone else because her entire identity and self image relies on being loved(in the right way by the right people)" togehter in the same show and never did anything to meaningfully juxtapose and explore All That

VISCERAL vs INTERESTING. compelling vs complex.
did you know. that your fav character. can make your brain go !!!! without being interesting?
Or complex? Most of the most iconic characters ARN'T either of those things?? And that's what makes them fun???
im dying. the "boring" goody goody characters are often the complex ones. the "deep" morally ambiguous or evil characters are almost always shallower than a puddle on a well maintain street
selfishness and self destructive acts are SIMPLE. They are EASY to feel about. Characters who care a lot about mainly one thing focused around themselves are a DIRECT LINE TO FEELINGS. They want or feel a thing strongly, act on it, very little to no internal struggle about that (until maybe suddenly there is???) and THIS makes them Visceral. This makes them Compelling
being selfless and taking others in consideration? Is hard
it's complicated- there's a lot of moving parts and no real end goal to aim for. Being a good person? Complicated
Often interesting but, it needs thought. It's not easy. It's more of an ask to care about goodness without knowing a lot about the person trying to do it, because either in-universe or in-meta, they're gonna fail at it at some point, and-
a character caring about others means that even when you're watching them, it's not fully THEIR story you're being asked to focus on
so it's harder to focus on them. It's harder to know who they are
it's harder to get someone to feel compelled by them
DON'T JUST TRY TO WRITE COMPLEX CHARACTERS! And give that ones that ARE complicated something SHALLOW about them!!
and pleasssse stop and ask yourself- do I like this character bc there is so many different contradicting things going on here? So much much you have to squint to see? Or is it because everything about them is sharp and clear, and cuts through my heart like a knife? Do I like that they are single sided as a piece of paper and with plenty of blank space left to fill in?
there's a difference. the word "complex" is NOT a synonym for "well written" or "better"
the characters who feel boring are often the ones with most going on inside. That's. What makes connecting to them. Harder
tldr: depth can put distance between an audience and a character. use it CAREFULLY

To add a little more to that post about how peaches represent SWK and Mac's relationship:
In the mountain, Macaque is the one to crush the peach in his hand. He offered it to Sun Wukong, and when he didn't accept it and instead yelled at him, he destroyed it and threw it on the ground
In the end, it was Macaque who left first, not the other way around. Now, their broken relationship isn't completely his fault, but he did play a part on it
SWK screamed at him when he tried to mend their friendship, so instead of trying again, he left. That's what broke their relationship for good. Not Sun Wukong yelling, not Liu'er Mihou not looking for him, but Macaque leaving and (as far as we know) not coming back. La gota que colmó el vaso, we could say. Stuff had already been going on between those two. SWK never seemed to genuinely listen to Macaque and his promises of staying forever were empty (he never would've been able to stay in one place for so long) and Macaque never even bothered to communicate his negative feelings over this, so when he warned him he was ignored
Sun Wukong left again and again and again, looking for more power to "be strong enough to protect them", and eventually he lost sight of why he was doing it. But no matter how many times he left, he came back. Macaque didn't

god the writing in KG is just impeccable and it does NOT get the credit it deserves because i can put any two characters from the main 5 together in a pair and they'll have some interesting contrasts and points in common that they don't have with the others

As stupid as the "Kyrie would kill me right now" line is, I can't help but run with the idea that maybe Kyrie is a secretly jealous person
She lost her parents to demons and her brother to Sanctus. She runs an orphanage. In Before the Nightmare, we're told that she often feeds other people's kids and refuses to accept donations that could help other people instead.
She gives and gives and gives. So, it's only fair for her to be a little possessive of the only thing she allows herself to keep: her relationship with Nero
Obviously she trusts him to be faithful and good, yet she can't help but cling a little bit tighter to his arm when he's around others, especially women she thinks are far more beautiful than her. Can't help but double check that his eye is on her and nobody else. Can't help but try to prove she's worthier than them by continually doing good deeds and making him happy however she can
She hates this part of herself and knows it's irrational, knows it's sinful, so she hides it. And she does it so well that people would laugh at the idea of Kyrie being jealous
Nero knows, though. It may have taken him a while to figure it out, but he notices her increased touches when they're in public, her subtle emphasis on "we" and "us" and "my boyfriend", her chores being done with a certain agitation or his favorite things popping up after these outings
Even if it can be irritating at times, he accepts all of her, just like she accepted all of him

i love how sakura’s love for sasuke is dirty. you can say she’s selfless in loving sasuke and in a way, it’s the truth: sakura wants the best for sasuke. she wants him to rest without his demons haunting him. she wants him to heal. she is ready to tear open her chest and hand him her heart if that’s what will bring him some peace. but her love is so so selfish in the grand scheme of things. she goes to kill him and she fails, despite knowing konoha will never be safe. she fails at being a kunoichi the moment he’s in danger. she’s willing to sacrifice the world for him and that’s so selfish and different from naruto who will ruin himself for the people he loves because he can’t put other people in danger, his morals stopping anyone else from being hurt. sakura, on the other hand, knows all of the risks, the exact body count, and yet she will let deliver the corpses at his feet with tears streaming down her face because she can’t hurt him even if she wants to.
and this brings me so much joy because sasuke yearns for this selfish love. he is a selfish lover and he will destroy the world if he needs to for the people he loves. yet he has not been loved like that in return. itachi, while sparing sasuke, condemned him to a cruel existence and broke such a crucial part of sasuke. naruto, for all of his love, would destroy himself and sasuke in the process of pouring his love out yet he won’t condemn the world for it, not even the wrongdoers. sakura, bright, shining sakura with her silly eyes and gentle soul, will crush anyone, let bodies wither and die before they can even touch sasuke.
and i wonder whether both of them see the horrible yet gentle things they are capable of in each other. whether sakura continued to cling to him for the way he broke the ninja’s hands or sasuke let his heart open up when he heard her going toe to toe against the dissenters who hate him.
