#kricketot #they kinda look like an enemy in a mario game. with the nose shape and the eyes. they're cute. they look like a guy whom mario could stomp #on their head and they would like. squish down and then disappear and drop a coin. does this make any sense #i guess so. actually i got a random shiny kricketot in my first playthrough of legends arceus. came right after the shiny luxio i got #both of which were like. my first “full-odds” shinies though some would argue they don't count bc they make a loud sound when they spawn #and it's not like. a “Real” pokémon game. which. is fair. i also got a lot of shinies in scarlet/violet but you can see those in the overwo #ld too so maybe those don't count either? if those are our criteria then i have never gotten a full-odds random shiny before. in a pokémon #game where you can't see shinies in the overworld. but i'll still always remember kricketot as one of the ones that i did get #i was like. climbing up the mountain behind the second camp in obsidian fieldlands. the one where you get wyrdeer and fight kricketune #and one just fucking. spawned. in the grass. i heard the sound effect and just Turned. and there it was. threw a jet ball at it or w/e they #'re called and got it. and i can't remember what i named her but i do remember she was female

on today's episode of Hashing Out Concepts Theatre, i spent a while today while waiting for my new fridge/freezer to be installed after my previous one died and i lost all my food hashing out a bunch of concepts for another game idea i have. (rest assured i'm not actually working on it as a game yet i just like to bash out a framework for things every now and then to make my brain do happy chemicals lmao)

putting all of this stuff under a cut since it's a bunch of images and also in case people aren't interested XD

i am regrettably a huge fan of comic books (mostly DC) and i've seen a couple of comic book inspired IFs popping up lately, though when it comes to my own interest, i'm definitely more into a straight interpretation of a comic book universe than a more. the boys-style universe - i'm into the camp lol, not so much the grim and gritty stuff. (though that's just my own personal preference)

anyway the idea behind That's Just Super is something that i really like about certain comics - giving the villains more of a purpose and rounded existence than just existing to be in somebody's rogue's gallery. the joker's angry defence of the batfamily from various other DC evil forces, lex luthor's furious resistance against brainiac alongside superman because it's His planet, damn it, DOOM throwing in with the heroes in every second marvel event comic... i really like stories where villains and evil characters don't always make the Most Evil choice just Because, but have clear and explainable motivations that sometimes bring them into what we'd consider a 'good' alignment because unlike in d&d, there's no real such thing as a concrete moral alignment.

the basic idea is that an inexplicable cosmic event removes all of the superheroes from the planet, leaving it vulnerable to attack by evil mindflayer style aliens - unless the supervillains who remain are able to band together despite their more unpredictable, less cooperative natures and save the planet in the heroes' absence. after all... if aliens take over the earth, the villains can't take it over themselves.

here's my fun little UI design idea lmao...

the other major thing about That's Just Super that i've been hashing out is the pc. the basic idea is that you pick your villain identity from a list but you get to customise their like. birth name and secret identity, while the villain identity comes with its own name, costume, and set history (including occasionally past romantic encounters). i like playing around with the way that IF works with the idea of mcs and customisable mcs so i just thought it'd be a fun twist... it also allows me to create nice drama by having set occurrences in the past lol.

so i did some profiles for the nine villain options - three each of the DC triad of tech/metahuman/magic origin. they're all based on a specific kind of villain archetype, and i really tried to limit myself to ones where i could definitely pin down more than one specific influence so it didn't end up like me just making too many analogues haha... even if some of the influences are probably pretty obvious.

weirdly i haven't even Thought about ROs yet since i've been so focussed on the pc... maybe i'll play around with the partially set background idea even more and only have 1 possible RO for each villain choice or something. maybe a couple that you can romance as anybody... not sure. (talionis could definitely have a messy broken romance with his superhero for example)

was browsing reddit and saw a comment about plastic surgeries in kpop and now i'm Sad

#everyone's like “oh i think it's bad and MY idols are all natural” or “oh i think it's perfectly fine if it's their own decision!” #when like. at what point can you say it's someone's own decision when plastic surgery is this popular in korea. it's like with women wearin #make-up and shaving their legs (sure you might enjoy the feel but it's not ONLY that right) except worse. because you can wash make-up off #and your hair grows back but you can't unshave your jaw or un-slim your already perfectly fine nose #it's just very depressing to think about. especially since i've read that some surgeries need touchups to look better as you age #like. either keep on renewing the Conventionally Attractive Subscription or Get Ugly #i love my faves and think they look cute but it kinda breaks my heart because not a single one of them was ugly or even “average” before #their surgery and it sucks a lot. so most of the time i just push it out of my mind as you do but sometimes it comes back and. ugh #shrimp thoughts

Here's the other pumpkin I carved this year (I did it yesterday but I was too busy doing other things, like cooking the pumpkin on the stove, and didn't carve it until late).

#pumpkin #jack o lantern #dracula #asj post #I went by Dracula's description near the start of the book. #I didn't want to carve his nose that way but I couldn't get carving it from the back side to work. ...The shape still doesn't come across. #I was thinking about using a black wet-erase marker to color in his hair and the bat. #So that he would have light hair sometimes and dark hair other times. #But when I tested the marker on the bat I realized it blocks the light from shining through. #I also found out wet-erase markers don't erase well on porous things. So there's a tiny black mark on the bat. #There's also some reddish staining on the white part of the pumpkin because I used red marker to make the sketch. #I need to remember for next time to erase the marker after making an initial outline with my x-acto knife. #I probably should've made his eyes' sclera and eyebrows and mustache lighter but was worried about it blending in too much with his irises. #I was thinking of using my red wet-erase marker to make his irises and lips reddish but then I found out light won't shine through the ink. #...I think it looks better in-person... My camera just can't pick up on jack-o-lanterns right. #I got slightly over 1 1/3 cups of pumpkin puree out of these two. Same as last year. ...And maybe around a cup of seeds. #It was easier to cook this time because I didn't add much water. Really hard to cook off water.
