Something for the TrainSephy shippers...

The thing is last night I searched for some info on another Black Cat game called “Black Cat: The Mechanical Angel” (already have some basic things to post but later). As I watched the video about the game, there were a scene where Train kinda roaming around on a yatch to find some clues and found himself lost in a room.

Train: Ah, this room…is this Zipangu style…?

Train: Ah, there is a Kimono here too.

Train’s thoughts: Heh, it’s beautiful-…Moreover, I don’t know what it is…but it smells so good….

In this case, there are two possibilities of what smell Train notice. Maybe it’s something in the room, maybe it’s the fabric softener of the Kimono (he is wondering since he doesn’t know what brand it is). Because he is inspecting the Kimono, I incline to believing it is the latter (or I just like to be delusional).

Train’s thought: Ah, but that girl was wearing a Yukata, not a Kimono… (he thought of Saya for a moment here I think)

And guess who appears?

Sephiria: What’s wrong, Heartnet?

Train: Woahhh! Se-Sephiria? Why are you here?

Sephiria: You’re the one who-….What’s wrong with this room, anyways?

Train: No, no, umm-uh….I thought there was a beautiful Kimono…

Sephiria: This is my room-…didn’t you know that I like Zipangu?

Sephiria: That Kimono is mine too. I see. So you were also interested in Zipangu, weren't you…

*Girl unless you are talking about the food I can swear to you he is not.

Train: Your Kimono....ha! Really....!? And even the room in that hotel!?

Sephiria: Yes. The hotel is also a branch of Chronos. I have my own room there too.

Sephiria: ...? What's the matter, Heartnet? You don't look so good.

Train: Nothing...

*Well, you tell him, Sephy. He not only thought that Kimono was pretty but also smelled good and then found out it belonged to his former boss (￣y▽￣)╭ Ohohoho.....Tbh If I were him, I would die from self-consciousness. Complimenting on the look is one thing but the smell is another. He's lucky he did not say that out loud.

Sephiria: I don't know what happened to you, but if you were distracted during battle...You could lose your life, Heartnet.

Train: Thank you for your advice.

Yeah still translations from apps but I think the meaning is not so different from the originals, since the image quality is good for the apps to scan letters and the conversation is quite simple. Some image has hand-writing, like those with info about The Guardians, and the trans of those are likely to be more inaccurate. But anyways, game like this often let your characters talk to others to gain important clues. Here Train just talked to her to discover how embarrassment could have ended him if he had spoken a few words more.

Sephiria is just as oblivious as she should. Girl was so happy thinking he also shared the same interest in Japanese culture she forgot to ask him why he was there.

Jumputi Series #6: Black Cat

A manga series written and art drawn by Kentaro Yabuki, also known for To Love-Ru and Ayakashi Triangle.

Synopsis: This manga follows sweeper Train Heartnet who is formerly of an organization known as Chronos. After freeing a human bio-weapon named Eve, said weapon is kidnapped by former Chronos-mate, Creed Diskenth. Creed then attempts to persuade Train to join his Apostles of the Stars to overthrow Chronos.

Characters:

Train Heartnet - An easygoing sweeper who is a former assassin for Chronos, an organization whose goal is world peace. He resents Creed for killing his friend Saya Minatsuki who changed his outlook on life and whose involvement ultimately led to him leaving Chronos.

Creed Diskenth - A former member of Chronos who is obsessed with Train as he feels he is the only person he can relate to. For this reason, he killed Train's friend Saya because she changed Train. He now seeks to change Train's mindset back and have him join his Apostles of the Stars.

Eve - A human bio-weapon created by Tearju Lunatique for the purose of research funded by Toreno Rudman. She was taught that she weas a monster whose only purpose was to kill before she was freed by Train and Sven, she now works alongside them as sweepers.

Sephiria Arks - Commander of the assassin Numbers of Chronos, her designation is Number I. From birth she was brought up to serve Chronos. She is trusted so highly that she is given total control over killing Creed.

Series was added to the game 11/21/2018

Broken souls ch 1

Newt's POV

Sometimes he had a hard time believing how much his life had changed. Once upon a time he had been a happy little boy that looked up to his older brother. Things were much simpler back then.

Asa child he had grown up in a small pureblood family. His mother raised hippogryffs while his father focused in politics. It was there that he learned he had an affinity with animals.

His older brother by seven years did not have this affinity. It was so strange. It had been so long that he could not recall his brother's face. Just part of his name. Thee. That's what he called the older Scammander. It hurt to think about what he had lost. So he tried to avoid it.

Just like with anything there were nights like this, where memories refused to stay buried. On a night when he was just seven years old a man had come to their manor. It was not known how he got passed the wards only that he had.

Unlike most assassins that his family had dealt with at one point or another this one did not use a wand. There was no defending against what he had used. A gun as he would learn it was called. It could fire faster than any wizard and was just as lethal.

Newt had gone down to get a drink of water as the house elf was busy at night. They had to sleep as well had been his thoughts. It was that mistake that changed his life forever.

He found his mother and father dying from gunshot wounds to the forehead. Blood pooled around them soaking his socked feet as he tried to wake them up. The picture still haunted him in his nightmares.

That night he was given a choice. Die by the killer's hand. Or go with him and live. Not wanting to die he went with the man.

For, four years after that he was forced to train with the man. Every day was a battle to survive. He was trained in martial arts and how to fire all different types of guns. In the beginning the assassin tried the gun to his hands so that he would gain the muscles required to fire it.

Then one day a teenage girl a few years older than him killed the assassin. He felt both relief and fear. The assassin was his mentor and had kept him alive for years.

On that night Chronos had taken him in. Before he had never shot at anything but targets. They gave him living breathing people. His once vibrant green eyes dulled.

It had been eight years since he joined Chronos. Two years ago he had become a Number. Easers were just assassins. Numbers were the best of the best. They gave him the the number XIII and the nickname Black Cat. He brought bad luck to anyone unfortunate enough to cross his path.

The only thing that was the same was his love for creatures. When he became a Number they gave him his own apartment. There were a few stray cats that he fed.

Newt sighed as he lay out on the rooftop of his apartment. A tiny grey kitten lay on the top of his chest. Footsteps drew his attention to the fact that someone was coming up onto the roof.

Newt sat slightly up so that he could see the person. A man with black hair and grey eyes. He wore a black trench coat. Under that was a white undershirt and black slacks.

It took a moment but eventually he recognized the other. The man had just moved across the street to the other apartments.

To Newt's trained eye he could see where the other had a wand holster. It was tightly wrapped against the man's right wrist. He was definitely a wizard. He had to admit that he was curious. Most wizards stuck to their manors or apartments in the communities. Newt knew of magic but due to his upbringing didnt know how to use it.

In a handful of times he had lost control over himself. He didn't remember what happened at those points. When he came to the areas had been destroyed. The bodies looking like they had been mauled by wild animals.

His only saving grace was that Chronos didn't care. If they did they would have killed him. This all did make him wonder. What did this wizard want?

The dark grey eyes blinked at him in surprise for a moment. Then the man said in a low rumble, "Pardon me, I wasn't expecting anyone else up here. My name is Percival Graves."

The man closed the space between them. His accent was distinctly American. He knew Chronos was still having problems with some of the figures. That was partially why he was stationed in New York. It would allow him quick access to assassinations when they became necessary.

Newt immediately sat up startling the kitten on his chest. The little one made a disgruntled hiss but obediently moved onto the rooftop. Part of him wondered who could draw their weapon faster? The wizard? Or the assassin?

His weapon was Hades  is an ornate handgun issued to Newt as the 13th member of the Chronos umbers. It is entirely made of Orichalcum, the strongest metal on earth.

His gun is a six-shot double-action revolver with gold engraving on its grip and barrel. The frame has a triangular attachment that bears the Roman numeral XIII on both sides. It possess a rapid-fire trigger for quick shooting.

Hades is a top-break revolver, meaning it is reloaded by "breaking" the pistol in half, exposing the rear of the cylinder. This automatically ejects all cartridges inserted and allows the user to drop in fresh ones. A unique feature of the gun is a five-meter-long retractable wire leash inserted in the grip.

Every Number had a weapon unique to them. Hades was his and his alone. Sephiria had it made for him when his skills proved to be useful.

Graves said with an appreciative look at the weapon by his side, "That's a sharp revolver. I don't have much experience with such weapons."

Newt's eyes went to where he knew the wand was hidden. Maybe if he ignored the man he would go away. Obviously he wasn't looking for a fight.

"You don't talk much do you? That's fine," or not. Why did this wizard want to talk to him?

The wizard sat down on the ground before Newt. Newt didn't move but neither did he speak. This was the first time he had interaction with someone outside of Chronos work. All other interactions ended with someone's death.

The man called Graves said, "Its strange to find someone so quiet around here. My neighbors are nosy and bothersome. That's what I get for being the new person."

Newt could remember his first few weeks. His neighbors would leave him gifts outside his door. He never ate them for fear of being poisoned. It was better safe than sorry after all. He did not envy the attention that the other was receiving.

His green eyes found movement from his little kitten. Newt named the little one Nero when he first met the grey kitten. Han had been starving at the time. If Newt had not taken him in he would have starved to death.

In the time he had known Nero never once had he approached anyone other than Newt. Most of the time he hissed and clawed at anyone who dared pet him.

However Nero did make his way to the wizard. When Graves reached out he didn't scratch the man. It was intriguing to watch.

Was his cat replacing him? If he was Newt wouldn't blame him. Who wanted someone who simply killed? Not many.

Graves inquired curiously, "What's his name?"

Newt almost answered but caught movement in the streets below them. A familiar black suited man was in his street. Waiting for Graves to leave. It seemed he had a mission.

Graves looked at him as he gained his feet. The man inquired, "You're leaving? Good night then."

Newt didn't reply. He made his way swiftly across the roof to the door that led to the stairwell.

At the door he hesitated then rasped his voice hoarse from lack of use, "Nero. His name is Nero."

Then like the shadow he was, Newt was gone.

Graves's POV

When Percival came up to the rooftop across the street he wasn't expecting it to be occupied. He was simply looking to escape his overbearing neighbors.

When Seraphina insisted that he get an apartment in town. Something had spooked her and he was curious. So he agreed to the new placement.

He put wards to keep thieves from getting in. Part of him wanted to put wards up against no mags. It would be suspicious and if there was something happening he wanted to be inconspicuous.

Percival had gone across the street to look out over the city. At first he had not seen the boy laying on the roof. When he did their eyes locked.

The boy couldn't have been out of his teens. He had green eyes that felt eerily familiar. The raspy voice had caught him off guard. Five simple words had him intrigued.

What he saw peaked his interest but he didn't understand why. The Roman numeral was XIII. What did it mean?

ive been rereading black cat and train is more spiteful than i noticed when i was a kid

like the bit where creed kidnaps rins a second time and chronos tricked him into going to creed’s hideout at the same time cerberus was attacking it? and he shows up, grabs rins, shoots at creed once or twice, and then ollies the fuck out? absolutely a spite-fueled decision because he knew sephiria orchestrated the whole thing.

how do i know? a few chapters later shaolee uses his master of disguise abilities to make himself look like creed and train threatens to shoot him on the spot if he pulls that shit again. so either train was just already pissed off at the guy for his little stunt the minute before when he made himself look like train since it lead to getting roasted by his friends, or for a solid two minutes his desire to do the exact opposite of whatever chronos wants him to do was stronger than his Kick Creed’s Ass instinct.

Annon-Guy: What are you thoughts on the PlayStation 2 game, BLACK CAT The Mechanical Angel?

Do you think it's tied to the Manga or the Anime? Because I read that it's telling a different story from those two mediums.

I think it inclines to the manga, mostly because of Train’s relationship with Sephiria and Berzé. They are quite understanding towards each other in the game, with both Sephiria and Berzé willingly offer helps (Train’s route), unlike in the anime, where even after Train’s and Sephiria’s conflict had settled, the relationship still seemed very strained and distant. They agreed to join hands at the end was because it was the only choice left rather than actually wanting to cooperate (Sephiria does wish this in the manga in order to capture Creed).

The game is quite simple imo, but it does have interesting plot. The interacting between characters is fanservicing, considering the hints, the number of characters beside the main gang appearing, the amount of conversations…etc. I absolutely love the 2D art, however. It sticks well to the manga art style. The 3D art is adequate for that time, I suppose. After all, for a small project like this to be done by Capcom is great enough. I have only watched Train’s route, so I’d say his attacks are rather basic, no different from the source material. The final boss kinda bland, or maybe because I don’t understand Japanese so I don’t get the character. As far as I know, he’s a mad scientist type of villain, who had some kind of weird obsession with Sephiria and thought he deserved to be the ruler of the world more than the Elders.

I’m not writing each tribute’s POV for each part of the Games because it would get way too tedious. This is the tentative order I hammered out for them.

The order of the districts, by the way, was decided geographically from the closest to furthest from the Capitol.

Each District’s ‘section’ is about 1,000 words. If I split a section between two tributes, each of them will get 500 words each. As for the Games, well, anything goes really.

For Sephiria: more reserved, but still unable to hide it. His relationship with Sephiria is complicated as it is now. They are old comrades, “supposed” enemies, some kind of mentor-student, not simply acquaintances but not as close as friends. He highly respects her, and this somehow creates a line between them that he would not dare to cross. He also understands that she must have gone to great lengths covering up his whole escape thing, so he would be thoughtful about burdening her with his feelings. However, he would not be very good at pretending. If they were in the same place together, there would be unconscious behaviors that give him away to his friends.

Sephiria’s personality only adds complication to it. She is nice to everyone, not because she is a hypocrite or something but because she sees no need to be difficult, and it makes her good will appear like kindness or affection in a very genuine way. This trait of hers would keep Train hopeful. He could not help himself despite knowing it might imply nothing. Nevertheless, he could not test her, because that would ensue letting her be aware of his feelings. But she never let her walls down. Even in the best scenario – she also, unconsciously, reciprocates – she would convince herself she doesn’t. She would be likely to cast it away as normal, platonic affection for an old comrade, and since she can’t delve on it (Chronos taking up too much of her attention), she would believe her own theory just to be done with it. In the worst case, she might not realize he has a crush on her, instead assuming that he treats everyone that way. She kinda can’t imagine that he would choose her to fall for, partly due to Train’s hiding it, partly due to her principles (not dating a junior for example).

Having to bottle up his feelings would certainly lead to frustration and melancholy at some points, and after each time, he would question himself if he should just let it go. But considering how he is, I think it would be hard. Not to mention that they may cross paths many times more. If Sephiria continued her manga behaviors (try manipulating him), it would push his frustration even further. Why does she only think of me when she needs something? And still, he would not be able to take his anger out on her, because it is true – as he has said once – that she has no better options. He hates her actions, but he can’t hate her. She is in a dilemma that both of them understand. Unless she tries to sacrifice one of his friends for her plans or to do a blatantly outrageous crime, something very unlikely with how Yabuki writes her, Train’s heartache and headache won’t be going anywhere soon. In conclusion, it’s quite a deadlock for Train here.

It's just my interpretation, though. Yabuki can write them differently (if he ever writes them at all), so there is no need to worry. Should he want the ship to happen then he would bend some traits of the characters to make it happen. I only analyze them based on a more logical view of the characters but we all know mangas don’t need it that much haha.
