continued from here.
“SUIT YOURSELF. it’s on a need to know anyway.” hoffman shrugged, trying to act unbothered that strahm wanted to hear nothing about the plan. it made sense to a point. why would he want to hear about it when he wasn’t here to watch it happen? hoffman did survive. no matter what it took or what the cost. he’d proved that time and time again but right now... he was standing in front of someone he was supposed to kill and for the first time in a long time. he didn’t want to see them die. that’s not what he wanted at all. “i’m not interested in having that kind of fun with van dyne but... i’m sure when young heard all about how close we were? it did the job.” was that a lie? standing here it wasn’t -- he wasn’t interested but at that party? perhaps... perhaps he would have. mark couldn’t have looked more offended by the comment. “never let that bitch get close enough to me. is that seriously what you think? kramer would have stripped me down to bone if he thought i ever touched her like that.” perhaps with a certain level of hatred came some form of attraction that he hadn’t wanted. it didn’t mean he’d ever thought about acting on it though. shit. he wasn’t that stupid. “look. all i could do was warn van dyne of EXACTLY what would happen if she came back. that’s what i did. she comes back to protect amanda after that? well, she’s a waste of space and deserves what’s coming to her.” it’s all he could say. he hoped he’d gotten through to her but if he hadn’t. well, the only person who was going to have something to cry about was her. “HUM. I’M SURE YOU HAVE.” did it surprise him that tuck would have bitched behind his back? not in the slightest. he felt a twang in his chest though, hoping that strahm hadn’t done the same. the mention of his scars, had his hand to his face, giving them a rub over. almost like being reminded of them brought the pain back. not that it wasn’t anything he couldn’t handle because he had and he could. “she thinks its so amusing. hum? least i survived mine. like to see her same the thing about hers.” they knew she couldn’t because she didn’t have the guts like he did. “you like them? pretty sure you’d be the first.” his tone immediately turning from defensive to... well, surprise. he hadn’t been expecting that to follow up with a compliment. especially from strahm. “THAT and i was sick and fucking tired of putting all my efforts into a system that didn’t work.” a system that had failed him and overs time and time again. “you can admit it now. our system is flawed at best. it’s all bullshit.” at least kramer’s methods were affective. it made sure people like baxter were off the streets for good. “if i wanted this? you dead? you would have been from the moment i entered the room.” it was true. he didn’t want it. could he really stand there and act like he did? well, no, he couldn’t. it was turning his stomach if he was honest. “i’m not -- i wouldn’t lie to you.” not now. was that hoffman being almost vulnerable? well, he didn’t fucking like it but it was. “perez want’s detective peter strahm. the hero. the hidden perfect gentleman.” he was mocking perez a little bit but jealously was a bitch and he wasn’t hiding it as good as he usually would. “I UNDERSTAND.” and he truly did. “i’m just as fucked up as you are. if not more so. a family? a house with a white picket fence? we’re not made for it.” and that was okay. hoffman moved forward, quick to flick the safety off as he rested the gun against the side of strahm’s head. had he moved that close in hope strahm would defend himself? because even subconsciously he wanted to be close to this man? yes, to all of the above. he closed his eyes, hand shaking as he willed himself to just do it. to just press the trigger but he... he couldn’t do it. “FUCK.” not completely dropping the weapon but withdrawing it from where it had been pressed forcefully against the side of his head. keeping his eyes closed because... because. why couldn’t he just fucking doing it and get it over with? @lcvenderhcze

tell me about drawtectives. what is this little show.
oooooh my god oh my god. they are my guys. so.
drawtectives itself is a youtube series created by julia lepetit on Drawfee. it's an rpg mystery show– s1 is a murder mystery, s2 is just a mystery– that doubles as an art challenges show. she draws all of the backgrounds and npcs and most of the assets (the 'cutscenes', you could call them) and then the team gets together, knowing absolutely nothing besides what julia's asked them to prepare, and does some funky improv to create a very funky storyline.
there are 3 players and one dm; the pcs are rosé, york, and grendan/grenda/grandma/gma, and the Big NPCs are Jancy True (s1/s2) and Eugene Finch (s2) and they're, in their own words, a found family, so. beloved. their backup plan if all their jobs fail is to move out east and open a bookstore. jancy and eugene have fully accepted their titles as mom/ancestral ghost and son despite meeting each other likely once before the drawtectives dragged them together. overall though if i had to summarize, it's a bunch of friends getting together, making a bunch of puns, appreciating julia's art, and laughing together. the vibes are 10/10 so loving. in writing the transcripts i've written (Karina laughs) (Nathan laughs) (All laugh) So Many Times it's just fun.
so there's three pcs. first one we meet is gyorik 'york' rogdul, who's a half-orc come to the city to learn about his mother's culture. he is the character we have by far the most lore for– if I compiled all the lore I had about the Northern Tribes and Wild Trains, I think the document would be multiple pages. he's also illiterate, which was an interesting decision for the english major of the group to make (in other words, York Will Not Be Illiterate For Season Three bc Y'all Cannot Read) and morally gray if you think about it too hard (he killed his own brother) but yknow he's hot so it's okay. they're all hot any crimes committed are okay. he's also aroace (confirmed by the player, which is!! vibes!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TELLING ME @axolotllee!)
rosé is the Human Rogue and the youngest of the party; her main trait in s1 was Millennial and she Dealt with that. she, in contrast with York, has so little lore we are scraping the barrel. she was a thief, then left everything about that life behind and changed her name to rosé when she went to work for jancy. she lied on her resumé. she knows how to sew; she's sewn Pockets of Holding on most of her clothing. she bonded with a stray cat that lived outside her last apartment. she's three credits short of graduating college. she's, in addition to being a drawtective, jancy's intern, and cried when jancy got her a cupcake. she won't tell her best friends when her birthday is or where she goes to school or what her last name is. that's all we know about her and i love her and she could probably kill someone as she has multiple knives on her person and does not use them. she's bright and funny and can be pretty dark but really does find the humor in it which is. wonderful.
so grendan highforge starts out as The Snobby Rich Boy which. already love the trope something Always Happens To Them if they're a pc. then through s1 they make an offhand comment about a character (faucon, whose name is pronounced 'falco') and how if her name was pronounced that way it'd be grenda. faucon asks how they feel about it. they are caught very off-guard by that and then ask to be called it for the next hour or so. then the next witness calls him gma, and then grandma, and then. yeah she realizes she's genderfluid. and he uses any pronouns and has a full beard and also wears a romper and loves dogs and the player is the Most Experienced TTRPG-er so through maybe using resources a bittt grandma is the most observant character of all of them. he's also a dog walker and a lightweight and does canonically have druidic magic though that was Not Touched On Much and showed up to their first day on the job slightly stoned (they did stop doing that though.) she carries around a box to make the height difference (york is 7'. grendan is 4'. rosé is 6'. you can see the formatting issue) slightly less difficult. she doesn't know how rhinos reproduce but has had a fascination with them since a police chief said one might've committed a crime. i think they could kill someone by talking too much but they don't actually have the strength or dex to do Jack Shit.
and jancy true is the head pi (a great many of the characters are puns and i love it so much) and is there to make sure things get done and clues don't get missed. she has a cochlear implant and uses a cane and solved s1 just by Reading The Paper and hearsay. she solved about half of s2 before Someone Stopped Her. she says hello children to the drawtectives and it is such a fond thing. eugene is. a guy who i love. julia started the show thinking he would be some mysterious character to join them and then made the wonderful improv decision– avoiding having to do npc-npc conversation– of saying 'yeah eugene is spinning a camera on its stand' and rosé just says so gleefully. 'guys. i think he's stupid.' and he became their son. his character is a lot of The Plot of s2 so i don't want to get into it too much but. jancy and eugene my beloved.
they're just. such a family. to quote nathan (grenda's Player) from the s2 talkback: "That's one of my favorite things about this show, is we came in with these vague ideas for characters, and just playing them with each other, they became friends and became better people as a result of knowing each other and solving mysteries. ... Like, we all kind of independently made our characters people that either were distant from their families or, you know, just had tenuous connections to other stuff, and so these are, like, the realest connections they have in their lives."
and then karina (rosé) about 10 seconds later: "Yeah, we love a found family where they bond over just being the worst."
god. them. they're chaotic and loud and feel very real to me. they have excitement and are pretty bad at social cues but they love each other and want to die together because they would hate too much to be separated. i could articulate this better but it's one in the morning and they mean a great deal to me.

arc 8 ottosuba and mutually assured destruction (devotion)
basically i wanna talk about this again but more Specifically bc they are gonna fuck each other over so fucking bad. like this is the most disastrous combo of all time. you got natsuki subaru who has rbd AND a suicide pill in his fucking mouth that he can use at any time AND he will die as many times as it takes to save Anyone he cares about. and then you pair him with otto suwen, aka a devoted little freak whos willing to let entire countries and millions of people, including people subaru cares about, die to save subaru. and otto has died for subaru twice now and will gladly do so again on top of that. they are the absolute worst combo of all time bc natsuki "ill save you no matter how many times i die" subaru and otto "i would let anyone and anything die to save you" suwen are inevitably going to come into conflict. otto wont let subaru die at any cost but subaru having rbd means that hes gonna win no matter what. hes gonna get what he wants. hes gonna die and theres nothing otto can do to stop it. and even if otto does stop subaru, its a lose lose bc either subaru dies and uses the info he got to beat otto next time, or subaru and otto end up having more fights with each other anyway, or otto does end up stopping subaru in some way (example: otto wanting louis to die) and subaru gets pissed at him over it, or all the otto permadeath flags end up being real and otto dies permanently and subarus gonna be destroyed and i bet ottos still gonna be like "i told you we shouldve left vollachia when we had the chance" on his literal deathbed bc him permadying proves his literal point this whole arc. and subaru can save otto all he wants but if otto ever figures out this hurts subaru in any way ottos never going to get over it. hes gonna be upset and pissed forever. there is no winning with these two. their devotion is violent and theyve literally found their match in each other. bc their devotion strips the other person of their own free will and choice in the manner bc they keep saying "no. i have to save you no matter what, even if you get upset at what im doing and even if i do all of this behind your back without ever telling you." and if they keep being stubborn theyre just gonna end up dragging each other down - which is the exact opposite of their goals to save each other. they are likely going to kill each other by the end of this, metaphorically or not. and its going to be because of love. do you understand. how do you save someone who wants to save you first. how do you save someone whos devoted themselves to you, body and soul, in the most violent way possible.
also if otto manages to read the tome once its restored... he's gonna figure out rbd.

i'm gonna make this post once and only one time (and will reblog if it comes up as a conversation on the dash) but like... if you repeatedly name-drop blogs, screenshot posts to put on your blog with URLs, consistently vaguepost about said people, and end up dragging yourself into drama? there is a 99.9% chance i will block you immediately.
it's not my cup of tea. i'm not a fan of URL or name-dropping nor do i think it is a safe way to talk about people in an angry, upset fashion. i don't care if you're doing it to vent or to "prove" yourself in some way, but i don't tolerate it. the dash becomes an unsafe space that way when you do that and proceed to make that your reason to BE upset.
and for anyone wondering: i was not directly involved in this topic but ive seen it happen multiple times over the course of this past week and i don't know why. so i'm making this known now in case i end up cutting contact without warning because THIS will be my one exception that i don't tell you why if it happens multiple times.
