I have moved this here to hopefully funnel notifs away from the OP that inspired me to write this, to respect their boundaries.
So here's the thing - the issue that we take with weight loss is not an individual choosing to lose weight, if they're able. The issue we take is it being treated as a choice. For the vast majority of fat people, losing or gaining weight is not a decision we can make, much like I can't make the decision to not have panic attacks, or to not grow facial hair. The act of someone choosing to attempt weight loss is not an indicator that they hate fat people, it's an indicator that they hate fatness. And unfortunately, fat people have fatness.
The issue isn't a black and white one. We understand that for a small subsection of people, weight loss is possible. But we - and I, especially, on a personal level - want people to question where their distaste for fatness comes from. The diet industry is a multi-billion dollar industry, and it funds many nutrition studies. (The 2018 Journal of Nutrition, for example, had 30% of its articles backed by the food industry - see here.) These things absolutely lend bias in research, and that bias makes its way to you, the reader (general you, which I will use for the rest of my reply).
We are able to recognize that the makeup industry affects the way people feel about healthy skin (no acne, blemishes, or large pores on healthy skin, people think, despite this being absurd), and that Hollywood affects the way that people view their bodies (think gym bros believing that being able to see ab definition is healthy, despite it being a sign of intense dehydration and a lack of abdominal fat to cushion organs and prevent hernia). Fat activists like myself want to draw attention to how the diet industry absolutely skews what we think of as healthy - no carbs, no fats, no sugars, etc. All of these things are touted as bad by someone, but these things are absolutely necessary macronutrients, at much higher levels than we are told to consume them.
The things we consider healthy are also affected by the FDA (they knowingly rounded down the required daily caloric intake of the average person from 2350 calories to 2000, despite 2350 calories being less than the average daily energy expenditure for EITHER gender based on DLW testing - link is to an excerpt from Neschiem and Nestle's (no relation) book that explains this in more detail), who have food industry reps on their advisory committees. None of these things are impartial. None of them are solely about our health.
All this to say - yes, there is correlation between certain illnesses and fatness, but there is also a correlation between fatness and poverty. And abuse. And traumatic events. And childbirth. And many, many other conditions, all of which are affected by the same root cause - cortisol disturbance. Stressors cause the body to gain weight. And when your cortisol system is knocked off course, it is nearly impossible to right it, even if you properly manage any condition that might have caused the issue in the first place.
It is always your right to exercise bodily autonomy. What we take exception to is the implication that us existing in our bodies is a risk we are taking on, and not just how we are. Yes, there are exceptions, yes there are people that could lose weight, yes there are unhealthy fat people, but the existence of unhealthy fat people cannot and should not be used as a gotcha, nor as a standard to hold all of us to. There are unhealthy thin people. My sister is 100lbs and she eats worse and lives a more sedentary life than I do - I'm double her weight and several inches shorter. But I have reproductive health issues and PTSD and all MANNER of other issues that contribute to my fatness. Disability aside, I am far healthier than she is. My vitals, diet, and bloodwork come back flawless every time they're drawn (and they are. regularly.). Fatness is not an indicator of health, weight loss is not a choice for the vast majority of fat people, and implying that it is (or that being fat is a "risk" that we are taking) is fatphobia, no matter how you may feel about fat people consciously.
(And while I'm on my soapbox - please don't use the term obese. The term is connected to the BMI index, which has been disproven as faulty science based in racist standards. It's a microaggression. "Fat" is just fine, it's not a dirty word, and it's preferred by every fat person I've ever spoken to in my career.
I also personally take issue with dieting and weight loss because the preoccupation with calorie counting and obsessing over macros when you are not in a medical state to need it is indicative of eating disorders. These ones are just backed by doctors that, yes, are acting through faulty science because fatphobia is as baked into the medical field as it is the food industry.)

Besides everything wrong with diet culture and exercise addiction and 'fit lifestyle' and all that I think one thing is very rarely adressed: exercise (especially regular exercise) can and is perceived by some people as just... Incredibly boring. At least the majority of stuff available to poor and/or working class people.
And neurodivergency absolutely plays into this. People sensitive to textures might find sweating much more unpleasant that neurotypical people. I personally hate being hot. I also cannot find a decent sports bra so a lot of exercise hurts my chest etc. Same with swimwear.
And then? If you try and find exercise not focused on weight loss? No bootcamp fat burner, no sexualized stuff like sexy booty sculpt to the max, you're left with what? Not much, I tell you that.
Yeah yeah, they will call it excuses excuses but I actually want to move. I genuinely do. But I have ADHD and even if I manage to find a instructor NOT engaging in weight loss talk during videos and explaining stuff properly - my attention span is struggling.
There are just so so much more fun activities than boring repetitive lifting and crunching and squatting. I could read a book. I could play valheim and build a house in there. I could make my sims suffer or build them a perfect life. I could write stuff on tumblr. I could sleep. All of these are so much more fun than a mediocre video teling me 'keep going for thirty more seconds, fee that stretch, good job'. And then? Doing that more than once? Same or similar routine every day? Are you insane? This is SO boring. This is not a matter of discipline: discipline gets me to work and brushing teeth and not buying every shiny trinket. I'm bored out of my mind in any gym playing boring music and offering same equipment and same classes: spin, max fat burn, kettlebells.
For all the variety diet industry is claiming they don't actually offer much. Gyms and classes and online instructors and insta influencers offer a selection that can be compared to all the varieties of toothpase. Brands and packaging and whitening or soothing... But they are all mint. All of them. There is no fucking variety and this selection sucks so much if you hate mint or are bored with it. Finding non-mint toothpaste is a quest. Finding an accessible fun activity is a quest.
And don't tell me about aerial yoga and jazzersize and shit. You know damn well all those either don't welcome or are not equipped for fat people, or are located 2hr commute away in a single spot in town or cost so much it's not reasonable for a working person.
It's so dull. I like badminton but there is not a single place to do it in my area. I like swimming but have no swimsuit that can contain my breasts. I would like to learn ballet and tango and burlesque and pole but not surrounded by thin people. Like, only for people size 16 and up. I would like to do yoga but with an instructor who knows how fat bodies work and actually presents different routines not the same poses in different order. I want heavy lifting with a competent instructor not disgusted to touch my body or spot me. None of that is available to me.
Go on a walk? Exactly how many times can you walk around your block without wanting to kill yourself from boredom of seeing the same streets built for cars and no fucking parks within a walking distance?
I'm so fucking bored with all that. Aside from it being an insane thinness cult.

Having just watched Le Sserafim's documentary, I have some thoughts:
Hybe does not give a fuck about their idols.
Kpop companies profit from making themselves look like the bad guys since it makes fans more eager to support and protect the idols. Hybe released this documentary knowing it would make them look bad, because it made the audience more sympathetic towards the group. I like the girls a lot more now because of it. Kpop is one of the few industries that actively benefits from a bad rep. Pitying the idols because they work hard and get treated like shit is half the reason some groups get any support at all.
The teachers and staff were assholes. They weren't all bad, but they were harsh, and even cruel at times, rarely offering praise yet encouraging the idols to look down on themselves and compete with each other. They blamed the members for everything - the members were brainwashed into thinking the success of their debut depended solely on them and that it was their fault alone that they were lacking. How were the members expected to dance with energy when they were dead tired, and weren't allowed to rest? How were they expected to be confident and fearless when their confidence and mental health were shot? I wonder if the instructors were as harshly criticized as the idols were for doing their jobs. A bunch of adults making young girls cry - some of them looked like they enjoyed it. Eunchae was way to young to debut. Again, Hybe knew we would think they were assholes but this actually helps them. Process that.
Sakura crying and telling the members to take dieting more seriously, and Yujin agreeing and saying they lacked the will to do it, the staff talking about "self-management" (whatever the fuck that's supposed to be, just call it what it is - weight loss) and how it was all up to them. They're so passive-aggressive, calling it self-management and throwing the girls under the bus like they can't easily help them lose weight, or have more energy and a healthier mentality. And the idea that any of those girls had to lose weight is so absurd. So many kpop companies these days debut idols with more "normal" weights. Wtf Hybe.
I wondered if the girls were actually happy. Going through all that could be worth it if it paid well and if they liked to perform, but many idols aren't even paid and have short careers. The girls did not look happy, but maybe they are happier now. Imagine coming from one of the biggest and most successful girl groups ever and being told you aren't good enough; going through a second debut and practicing like it's their first must feel so unfair. Hybe needed Sakura and Chaewon but acted like they were replaceable, like it was only the girls who needed them. Sure, they could've been replaced, but they're responsible for at least half the pre-debut hype Le Sserafim got.
How did they erase another person's existence so thoroughly? Some cuts were a bit weird, but if I hadn't known they were initially six members, I wouldn't have noticed Garam's absence. It's crazy.
