For the first time since 2020, I am feeling the urge to read InuKag fics again???
This all started in June when I FINALLY read the iconic "Freak Attraction" by our esteemed @artistefish (which is PHENOMENAL AND AMAZING BTW PLEASE GO READ IT), but then, just now, I saw that the Smut Queen herself, @keichanz had posted new smut...... 👀👀👀
Aaaaaand suddenly I went hunting for other smutty oneshots to add to my "Marked for Later" fics. For the first time in AGES. Like. Um. Holy shit????
[Ramblings about my "Inuyasha history post-2020" below cut. Tl;dr: I'm lowkey Shook that my love for Inuyasha and InuKag fics is finally, slowly coming back 🥹💕]
Here's the rundown: 2020 happened. I went into quarantine with my parents. I was determined to finally devour a BUNCH of Inuyasha fics I kept meaning to read, and at first I did with great gusto..... but..... as April 2020 crept along, my interest began to wane and depression seized a hold of me.
Then Yashahime was announced. The fandom imploded. I felt nothing. No interest, no worries, no intrigue. NOTHING. It would've scared me if I was capable of feeling it.
Oh eventually, I felt a mild amusement at all of the squabbling and ship wars and all that nonsense (and spawned a whole fucking series of memes as a result lmaooooo). But my love for the fandom/fics had more or less snuffed out. Which sucked for a number of reasons, not least of which were "shit, most of my WIPs are for this fandom fuckfuckfuckfuck" LMAO 🙃
Depressing shit aside, I dove back HARD into the Disney fanfic side of things, on top of other anime titles and old fandoms like Harry Potter. I moved on to other fandoms, partially due to feeling embittered at the Inuyasha fandom for already making my depression over my lack of interest EVEN WORSE with all the in-fighting over Yashahime (which btw, for the record, is NOT a particularly bad show. It's not a GOOD show, per se, I don't have any strong feelings for it either way, but it's NOT the Antichrist™ like fans were making it out to be, sheesh >.> It's just another mediocre sequel for a classic-but-not-particularly-amazing-original-series. Shocking, I know. Moving on)
The only thing keeping me sane about Inuyasha was watching it with my fiancé, from Nov. 2020-Sept. 2021. His delightful commentary breathed life into the series like you wouldn't BELIEVE lmao 🤣
Eventually.... I felt the desire to write again. But it was HARD. 😭
After Shameless was completed in April of 2020, I felt.... empty of Inuyasha fic writing. By a miracle, I managed to update my Big Three WIPs (An Unexpected Encounter -> June 2020; Inuyasha: Prince of Thieves -> July 2020 & Sept. 2022; and Shards of the Sea -> June 2021 & Sept. 2022), but the gaps between updates kept widening, and I only worked on them because they were already partially written/published. I even ended up archiving older ficlets into Tied Together and Bonds Across Time, but had to resist the urge to delete everything and start afresh SEVERAL times since 2021 (which, coincidentally, was around the time the fandom was tearing itself apart over Yashahime bullshit and by bullshit I mean innocuous junk people were losing their goddamn minds over ugh.... 😒)
The handful of other fics I punched out for other fandoms were small, and only posted briefly in the summers of 2020 and 2022.
The latter summer was thanks to my first InuKag written smut in 2 years: Sinful Symphonies.
So, yay! Finally getting a feel for writing again, both for Inuyasha and in general! But I still felt utterly detached from other Inuyasha fics, not because of the writers (are you KIDDING me, half of the reason it was hard to distance myself from the fandom was because of the AMAZING TALENT in this fandom ugggghhh 😭), but because of my personal, complicated feelings with the fandom and series as a whole.
But then I binge-watched the series by myself this May. And finally, decided to buckle down and read Freak Attraction, which I have been meaning to read LONG before 2020, and thus, it became my first Inuyasha bookmarked fic on AO3 in almost 3 years, and first "new" Inuyasha fave as whole since August 2021.
My last Inuyasha bookmarked fic on AO3 was on Nov. 1, 2020 (on ff.net, I read two small MirSan smut fics in August 2021, but these are outliers; I really could not bring myself to read more than those -.-).
My last InuKag bookmarked smut on AO3 was April 7, 2020.
My last REVIEWS I left for an Inuyasha fic (besides the aforementioned fics) were from June-August 2021 for a couple of updated faves (namely Keichanz's Iconic You Rescued Me, which was a ROLLERCOASTER OF FEELS, LEMME TELL YOU).
And now. NOW. AT LAST. THREE WHOLE YEARS after 2020 sucked the joy of Inuyasha fandom/fic from me.... I want to try again. I want to read more again.
Even if it's only a little bit, I would like to find joy here again. 🥺💕

Day 2 @flufftober “Family, friends, loved ones”
Modern AU Inukag, not canon storylines.
Ever since she woke up this morning, or more like is woken up by this morning, Kagome notices a tightening of her belly. She gets up and of course, her bladder immediately is the first to get her attention. So, she takes care of that, then waddles over to the living room where her mother is already drinking a coffee. She’s been having Braxton Hicks contractions or maybe real contractions, it’s hard to tell, but somehow, today feels different.
“How are you feeling today, dear?”
“Not sure. I think it’s still just Braxton hicks, but my back is feeling a little more sore than usual, and I just feel… off.”
“Off?”
“Yeah, like…” Kagome taps her chin a few times. “Like there’s a pressure in my groin area that—” Suddenly, she stops talking, eyes go wide, and she turns to her mom. “I-I think,” she looks down between her legs and sees a growing dark spot on the pink fabric of her cotton shorts, “my water just broke.”
“Oh!” Mrs. Higurashi exclaims. “Let’s get you to the hospital. Is Inuyasha at work already?” She asks as she helps her daughter off the couch, walking towards the garage.
“He is,” Kagome answers. “I’ll call him on the way.”
Mrs. Higurashi puts a towel down on the passenger seat and helps Kagome to buckle up before going back into the house for the overnight bag. Once secured, they take off for the hospital around six miles away. Kagome also phones her husband and she can hear their conversation despite it not being on speaker… the poor hanyo sounds completely flustered. Battle a demon, no problem. Wife pregnant, total wimp. Mrs. Higurashi chuckles as she remembers her how her own husband handled their daughter’s birth, it wasn’t much different.
Once they arrive at the offloading area next to the lobby, a nurse brings a wheelchair to the car and helps Kagome into it. While the nurse takes Kagome in, Mrs. Higurashi parks and grabs the bag before heading into the hospital. She knows her daughter is being taken to the birthing center, the floor where all the labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum (LDRP) rooms are. They chose this hospital despite it being a bit further than the one near their home because of its quality care of not just the mother but the family. The LDRP is an all in one private room. The mother stays in it through the whole process, start to finish, and is only moved if they require an unplanned c-section.
It’s not long before a flustered hanyo comes barreling through the door of Kagome’s room followed by Miroku who likely did the driving.
Inuyasha drops to his knees next to the bed and grabs Kagome’s hand, questioning in rapid succession. “Is everything okay?! How do feel Gome?! How’s the kid?! There’s nothing wrong right?!”
“Breathe, Inu,” Kagome chuckles, “and calm down, everything it totally fine.”
His body slumps a bit as the weight lifts. Inuyasha lets out an exhale. “What happened?”
“My water broke and the contraction pains started on the way here. I’m already at 4 centimeters, but it’s hard to tell how long it’ll take for it to reach 10 centimeters.” Kagome can tell by the expression on his face he doesn’t quite understand what she explaining, but just trying to be supportive. She squeezes his hand back. “So it means you can relax for now.”
“I don’t think I can,” Inuyasha mumbles.
That’s when Mrs. Higurashi steps in. “Miroku,” she directs her question, “why don’t you take Inuyasha and grab us all some lunch since it’s almost that time. For Kagome, it has to be something light.”
“I remember,” Miroku chimes in, “from when Sango had our twins.”
“Oh, right dear!” Mrs. Higurashi chuckles. “So, I leave it to you two.”
“But I wanna stay— what if she starts?”
“That’s not gonna happen.” Miroku grabs Inuyasha by the shoulder and start to pull him to his feet. “So, let’s go.”
A new child being born is such a joyous event, but what they don’t teach you in the birthing classes is how to handle the downtimes before the mother is fully dilated. They say for a first time mother, it could be anywhere from 8 to 24 hours before the cervix reaches 10 centimeters and 9 hours later she is at 7. Kagome’s room can fit a maximum of five people before being too cramped, so throughout the day and into the night, the rest of the family members arrive and take turns in Kagome’s room or hanging out in the waiting room instead. Sango arrived after picking her twins up at school with her teenage brother Kohaku in tow. She became his guardian after their parents died in an accident. Inuyasha’s parents, Toga and Izayoi Taishou arrived not long after Kagome had been admitted and Izayoi often stayed in the room with her daughter-in-law with Mrs. Higurashi, the two seasoned mothers helping a first timer through the experience. Once school had ended for the day, Toga left briefly to pick up their other granddaughter Rin, Sesshomaru and Kagura Taishou’s adopted child, and brought her to the hospital while her parents showed up later after work. And finally Souta Higurashi joined them after high school as well. All the kids are sitting on the floor in the middle of the waiting room doing their homework under the watchful eye of the adults.
Since Kagome chose not to get an epidural, by the time she is at 8 centimeters the cramps have become quite painful. The two mothers, Izayoi and Mrs. Higurashi sat on either side of her bed holding her hand through each wave. By this point Inuyasha is struggling to stay calm. Just watching the peaks and valleys of the contraction monitor spiking off the chart is bad enough, but with his preternatural senses, he can smell the physical changes happening to Kagome’s body. Truthfully, it’s freaking him out, so the women literally kick him out of the room by the 9th centimeter so his father can keep him under control. It’s okay with Kagome because only two people are allowed during the delivery period and having the two mothers there are comforting.
Left with Toga, Miroku, and Sesshomaru, it’s hard to say if it’s really a good idea. Two have gone through this before and one had been around to witness his brother’s birth, so Inuyasha is the newbie. So what do the men do with the newbie? The way the waiting room is set up, the area is separated into three groups of seating areas to accommodate more than one family waiting. Tonight, there are two families, Kagome and Inuyasha’s and one other which consists of just five to their eleven. The women and children are in one area while the adult men have taken up the last open seating group. When Inuyasha is kicked out of the LDRP room, his father gestures for him to sit next to him, while Miroku and Sesshomaru are sitting across from them.
“Tch,” Sesshomaru sneers teasingly at his brother, “kids not even born yet and you already can’t handle.”
“Fuck off,” Inuyasha retorts. “You can’t say that the smells aren’t difficult to deal with!”
“Calm down,” Toga puts his hand on his youngest sons shoulder. “You know he’s only teasing.”
Inuyasha sits back and crosses his arms. “Just you wait, Sessh. See how you do in another 5 months when your twins are being born.” He taunts, but Sesshomaru just turns his head and ignores the comment.
“You know,” Miroku leans forward, smiling at his hanyo friend, “you’re lucky the women kicked you out.”
“Why’s that?” Inuyasha’s brow raises as he notes a hint of amusement in Miroku’s tone.
“Oh, well,” the man sits back with a grin. “I think women are beautiful to bring life into the world, but it also brings out an inhuman strength you’d never know they possessed.”
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“If you were in there, you’d probably be holding her hand wouldn’t you,” Miroku nods yes as he speaks as if answering for Inuyasha. “And she’d also be squeezing it until you hear the bones of your fingers crunch.”
“Pfft, that’s ridiculous.”
“Son, no he’s right,” Toga adds in with a mischievous grin. “Be happy your woman is human. With your brothers mother being a demon I thought she’d slit my throat from all the pain.”
Inuyasha’s head turns quickly to his father. The blood in his face drains as he tries to hide his concerns from their statements. Surely, they’re messing with him right? If these were true, what man in their right mind would ever stick around during the labor? “Tch, I don’t believe it,” he huffs.
“And don’t forget the screaming and yelling,” Miroku throws in another jest. “Calling you every evil word they can think of and how they hate you for doing this to them.”
“Whatever,” Inuyasha again huffs, doing his best to ignore them.
Toga laughs and teases his son further. “Believe it boy, even your sweet human mother turned into a demon for a few hours.”
“Bullshit.”
“Idiot,” Sesshomaru sneers at his brother. “You know it’s true. I’ve seen your woman angry before.”
Okay, that’s true, Inuyasha has to admit. When Kagome is angry, he’d much rather be fighting a demon of his father’s strength than fight with her. It still doesn’t mean he believes she could become so hateful towards him that she’d curse him out. Why in the hell would women ever have kids if it’s so excruciating? “If it’s so bad, why would you have more then?” He queries his father and friend. “You’re just messing with me.”
With a chuckle, Toga puts his hand in his sons shoulder, “yeah, okay we’re messing with you, but we’re not joking about how much pain they go through.” Miroku nods in agreement. “So, be thankful you’re not in there to see how much she’s suffering to have your daughter.”
Inuyasha gulps, knowing the truth in his father’s voice. “I know.” He hasn’t admitted it, but he can hear what is going on in the LDRP room right now. No human ears can hear it, but all the demons in the nearby area surely can. Kagome isn’t swearing or cursing, but he hears the pain in her voice, through the straining and labored breathing. It’s taking all his effort to ignore it all, and with these assholes trying to rile him up, it’s so not helping!
Now Miroku chuckles at his friend. “Eh, you’ll be fine. A big strong hanyo like you can handle it. Just wait till you get to hold your kid. Make sure you don’t panic and break her.”
“Shut up! Dumbass, I ain’t gonna do that!” Inuyasha finally snaps. “I even cut my nails earlier just in case.”
“That’s smart of you.” Toga approves of the decision.
“Mom reminded me,” Inuyasha mumbles, drawing more chuckles from the men around him. Screw them! He’ll be fine! he was fine with Sango and Miroku’s twins, so why wouldn’t he be with his own kid?
It took another two hours of labor before Izayoi came to the waiting room to tell them it’s a girl and to bring Inuyasha back with her to the room while the other’s wait their turn. Inuyasha’s nervous to see his child and Kagome, not for the silly reasons his family tried to tease him with, but because this is such a big event. There was a time he never thought he’d have a family of his own until meeting Kagome and now look at them, their first child being born. He’s truly proud of and thankful for what she’s given him, so maybe the nerves are also just worries he won’t be as good a father as he needs to be. The lingering scents of labor grow stronger the closer they get to the room, making Inuyasha queasy, or is it just the butterflies in his stomach? It’s a strange smell of antiseptics and blood, salt and sweat, mucus and cleaning products that for a sensitive nose is overwhelming.
When they arrive at the room, Izayoi stops at the door and gestures for her son to go first. “Meet your daughter,” she smiles and coaxes him through. “She’s such an adorable mix of you both.”
Inuyasha swallows hard to wet his parched throat. He sees Mrs. Higurashi standing next to window side of the bed holding a blanket bundle in her arms and his wife laying in the bed smiling at him through bleary eyes. Kagome’s hair is matted and plastered from sweat to the pillow while her eyes are puffy and the exhaustion is evident. Yet, the radiance exuding from her is like a heroine standing tall at the end of a long battle. She’s done her part and can now bask in the glory.
“Inu…” Kagome motions him over.
“Come,” Mrs. Higurashi completes. “Come hold your daughter.” She smiles.
His nerves rise as he walks over to Mrs. Higurashi as his mom stays on the hospital side of the bed next to Kagome. There’s a tremble from the normally formidable hanyo as all the worries, terror, excitement, and absolute joy mix. Without even seeing the child, her natural scent reaches for him— a combination of them that reminds him of a campfire after the rain during their travels through forests. Earth and smoke with whiffs of pine and leaves. Mrs. Higurashi shifts the blanket to reveal the child’s face before placing her into his arms. This is it, the moment he’s practiced for with the Mirsan twins because holding such a tiny creature is terrifying! But when the weight settles in his arms, so does the turmoil in his gut. Moisture gathers in his eyes causing his golden hues to shine. It’s done. Inuyasha is holding his daughter for the very first time and it couldn’t be any less thrilling.
The biggest grin grows on Inuyasha’s face as he looks quickly at Kagome, his mom, mother-in-law, back to Kagome, then back to their daughter who is staring straight at him. They were told in the Lamaze classes babies eye sight is still poor immediately after birth, but he wouldn’t know that the way she’s fixed on his face. The color will likely change, but her eyes are a light brownish yellow, somewhere between Kagome’s dark brown and his gol, and though only scraggly tufts, she has white hair like him too. But the cutest feature are her ears, just like his in shape, only black like her mothers hair. White hair, yellow sepia eyes, and black fluffy ears.
Inuyasha turns to Kagome teary-eyed. “She’s so perfect!” He leans down and kisses her forehead. “I love you so much, Gome.”
Kagome reaches up and puts her hand over his that cradles the child. “I love you too, Inu.”
While the new parents continue fawning over their new daughter, the grandmothers relay the information to the family and invite them back to the room to meet the baby. Of course, everyone except Sesshomaru take turns oohing and awing, cooing and babbling to the baby who mostly just stares back wide-eyed from all the stimulation, but every so often the child makes little noises in return. Toga is already talking about spoiling her rotten and the Mirsan twins are excited to have a new playmate soon.
“Have you decided on a name?” Mrs. Higurashi questions. “Didn’t you have one picked for if she’s a hanyo?”
Kagome gives Inuyasha a knowing look of allowance along with a nod, before he turns to the crowd gathered. With a beaming grin. “Yup. Moroha, meaning double-edged for being the best of both worlds.”
“Moroha Taisho,” Toga repeats, “double-edged righteousness, such a noble name.”
“What’s the likelihood she’s a handful instead,” chuckles Miroku who’s quickly backhanded by his wife.
Toga laughs at the suggestion. “Considering the handful he was as a kid, I’d say high!”
The room erupts in merry laughter, and though Inuyasha almost refuted the suggestion, he knew they were probably right. It didn’t matter, naughty or nice, angel or brat, they’ll love her all the same. “Pfft, well with your kids as examples, it wouldn’t surprise me.” He jousts back to Miroku who quickly bites back his smirk.
By the end of the night after everyone else has gone home, and with Kagome and Moroha finally asleep, Inuyasha settles into the recliner next to the bed and bassinet. Truth be told he’s still terrified of what’s to come. From dealing with colds to future boyfriends, Moroha’s edition to the family is a whole new adventure into an unknown world. Okay, maybe that’s a bit over dramatic, but is it? “As long as she doesn’t end up dating Koga’s boy I’ll be fine.” He mumbles.
Suddenly, Inuyasha hears Kagome’s sing-song, teasing voice. “I heard that.”
Busted!

my feelings on ritowa have always been kidna ambient bc like
i didn't care much about it in yashahime s1, like i even told myself "when they get more development i'm sure i'll ship it more"
then s2 came and it did happen and i started liking it more also the ritowas carved out the only non-toxic space filled with flame wars, infighting, and terfs in the entire fandom so there was that although it's still not something that gave me like, specific brainworms or seek out or anything and i definitely felt i was more one-sided and more of a "towa will probably fall in love with him in the future" and like i don't really seek out fics or art that's specifically ritowa although i enjoy it and like seeing it when it's on my twitter tl without really seeking it out (i still follow a lot of yashahime people on there even if i'm more divorced from the fandom now)
but
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGH
"I will be your knight."
THE MANGA ACTUALLY REMEMBERING WHEN RIKU OBSERVED THAT TOWA IS SOMEBODY WHO ALSO DESERVES TO BE PROTECTED NOT JUST SOMEBODY WHO ONLY EVER PROTECTS OTHERS WITHOUT CARE FOR HER WELL BEING
A PRINCESS AND HER PIRATE TURNED KNIGHT...
so now i'm just
YES ACTUALLY
YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH GIMMIE
GIMMIE MORE OF THE PRINCESS AND HER PIRATE TURNED KNIGHT PLEASE

Somewhere in Time
13. Baffled
Light was slipping through the cracks in the clouds as Inuyasha returned to the cave. His heart was beating in a frenzy. Kikyo and I just talked, he reminded himself but it did nothing to ease his nervousness. What would Kagome say this time?
As he trudged inside, bold accusation was evident in everyone's eyes. He flinched, half-expecting Kagome to osuwari him to the deepest pits of hell but to his surprise, she wasn't around.
"Oi, where's Kagome?" he asked to no one in particular.
"You've gone and done it this time, Inu-baka," Shippo said accusingly.
"Kagome-sama didn't return here ever since she left last night," Miroku added but stiffened as he looked past Inuyasha. Sango smiled grimly as she petted Kirara, and Shippo turned tail and hid behind Miroku.
He heard the heavy footsteps outside. He braced himself, knowing he deserved whatever punishment Kagome gave him this time. He held his breath as Kagome stepped inside, but she only glanced past him and instead went straight to Sango's side.
"Oi, K-Kagome..." he stuttered.
"Don't worry, Inuyasha. I'm not angry at you. You can relax."
Everyone in the cave gaped in astonishment at the coolness in Kagome's voice. She even smiled at him! Uncertain, Inuyasha crept forward and gently lifted her chin using his clawed finger. She met his gaze steadily.
"Are you sure?" he ventured.
But even as she nodded, Inuyasha's head clouded in confusion. With ears flat on his head, he retreated to a corner and silently watched her.
She smelled like Sesshomaru.
###
Jaken lay sprawled beside Ah-Un as watery eyes watched the small figure of Rin sleeping peacefully on the other side of the small clearing. He stood guard all night because his lord hadn't returned in the evening. Sun is rising already. Where did Sesshomaru-sama go?
As if on cue, the Western Lord strode into view. He quietly took a post at a nearby tree and closed his eyes.
"M-milord!" Jaken squawked, nearly falling over as he scrambled to his feet. "Shall I prepare breakfast now, milord?"
Like always, this went ignored. But even as Jaken added a few sticks to rekindle the camp fire, he could tell there was something different in the great inu-youkai. He stepped closer silently and carefully sniffed the air. His eyes widened.
Sesshomaru-sama smelled like the hanyou's miko.

Hi, I’m looking for fics where Kagome and/or Inuyasha deal with depression/anxiety. I like longer stories but one-shots are totally fine too. I would prefer stories from before 2019 so there’s no Yashahime influence. Also please no sessrin in the recs. Thank you so much!
Hi anon, thank you for the ask! Most of the fics we could find that fit your criteria are one shots, but there are a few longer stories sprinkled throughout. In order to provide more reading material, we split the list into stories written in 2019 or earlier and stories that were written after 2019 but contain no references to Yashahime (characters, plot, or otherwise). There shouldn't be any SessRin references in any of the fics either.
This is a difficult subject to search for without having read a story in its entirety, so we strongly encourage anyone who knows of any others to leave more recs in the reblogs/replies!

[2019 or Earlier]
He Just Wouldn't Stop by @artistefish (G)
Just because she's back doesn't mean there aren't scars. Some wounds take more than time to heal, and some never heal at all. A post-canon look at an unexpected repercussion of Kagome's three year absence.
--
Guilty Hero by Eggry (T)
The city is recovering after a crippling war against Naraku. But while time moves on, Inu-Yasha doesn't. Plagued with guilt over a terrible deed, alcohol is his only escape from the nightmare of reality. At their wit's end with him, Sango and Miroku are on the verge of giving up until Kagome Higurashi arrives to take him under her wing.
--
Sleep, My Dear by Stars_Sky_See (T)
Kagome was quickly adjusting to her new life with the help of her now husband. Life had all around been easier since her return and everyone was grateful. However, life wasn’t so merciful, with every two steps forward there was always one step back.
--
The Ghosts of Suicide Forest by @splendentgoddess (T)
Aokigahara, known by some as Suicide Forest. It is a place of mystery, beauty and death. Roughly 100 people go there annually to commit suicide, but why? The better question, though, is can Kagome find and rescue Yuka before it is too late?
--
Broken Glass by SleepWalkingChickens (M)
Growing up is hard, especially when things are changing. Kagome is plunged into a new world, complete with new problems. The past is hard to let go of and baggage builds up. Unravel it and you’re met with truth. Can love win over Inuyasha's sins?
--
It Goes Like This by @witchygirl99 (G)
It goes like this.
“Hey! I haven’t seen you in a while!” Kagome exclaims, smiling at him. Her eyes are dark brown and beautiful, captivating.
Five different answers pop into his head, all of them friendly and inviting for conversation. It’s not what comes out.
Inuyasha isn't the main character of anyone's story. With Kagome, that feeling starts to change.
--
[Post 2019 w/ No Yashahime References]
Pictures of Happiness by @memilylove (M)
The loss of his high school sweetheart changed more than Inuyasha realized. With the encouragement of friends, he finally gives himself another shot at getting help. The path is not easy, but he soon finds that perhaps there is a point to all this. Is it really possible to be happy again and to find that you love another?
--
Other Reasons to Stay Awake by @ajoy3fanfics (NR)
Kagome suffers from PTSD after she returns to her side of the well
--
Shattered by My-Crazy-Awesome-Sox (T)
Oneshot: Leading a double life has got to be stressful. What happens when it all starts falling apart for Kagome? Everything has been pent up for too long, and now it's all crashing down around her. For anyone who's ever had a breakdown...
--
A Horse With No Name by @roseheartwhitefox (T)
The story of what happened to Inuyasha after Kagome disappeared when the well closed for 3 years, heavily referencing the episode "The Old Sugarman Place" from "BoJack Horseman". I feel as if after everything that happened and Kagome disappeared, Inuyasha would need time to grieve the loss. This is that story. Deals with themes of depression, loneliness, and loss.
--
Stay by @akitokihojo (G)
He nodded again, pulling away to gently press his forehead to hers for a moment. "I get it." Inuyasha breathed before leaning back to look her in the eyes. "But, one of these days you'll understand that no matter what happens, I won't take a damn thing back. You'll see that I don't want it back. I feel like my heart's safer with you, anyway."
--
Kagome's Unwitting Depression by @cstormsinukagblog (M)
Kagome sees something that she isn't meant to see, and it kind of breaks her. Can she and Inuyasha repair the damage before she gives up hope?
--
Breaking the Habit: Rewrite by @kstewdeux (M)
After being separated for six years, Inuyasha and Kagome are reunited on her side of the well. TW: SI, Mental Illness.
--
The Voice Inside My Head by @fawn-eyed-girl (E)
When Kagome returns to the Feudal era a week after a particular nasty fight with Inuyasha, he realizes something’s not right. Is it too late for Inuyasha and Kagome—have the years of fighting broken them apart for good? Or will they be able to find a way forward, together?

I was thinking, maybe things could have worked out if only they had made Rin really an adult in hny. Maybe if they had said that Sesshomaru wasn't visiting her or if they had explained their relationship...I don't know. It would still gross me out but maybe... I could not feel the vomit reflex?
What do you think? ses*in was a good idea but poorly executed?
To be perfectly frank, no, I don't think that making SessRin a thing in Yashahime was a good idea. Was it poorly executed? Yes. Could it have been executed better? Yes. I've spoken about different alternatives that could've been done at length on this blog, such as giving Rin a bigger role as the twin's mother in Season 2, but I personally don't think that SessRin would ever be a good idea. I see these posts as a "gun to my head, this is what I'd do" moment rather than "this is what they should've done". (BECAUSE WHAT THEY SHOULD'VE DONE IS BRING KAGURA BACK!!!!!!!!!)
Mostly because I find the concept of Sesshomaru being changed by a small child with whom he has no reason to be aligned much more interesting without romance hanging over it. I still think his "redemption" arc is absolute shit, but Sesshomaru at the beginning of the story is hated for abandoning a child he had a responsibility to and he ends the story by taking responsibility for a child that he had no responsibility towards. It's at the very least an interesting beginning to a redemption arc. (SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP OVER HOW MUCH RUMIKO DROPPED THE BALL)
And even in a world where SessRin was written absolutely perfectly, you'd always have that hang-up when it came to the ship, and it would give a weird vibe to the scenes from the original. I admittedly haven't rewatched Inuyasha in at least half a decade but I remember when editing I would watch clips of the two of them and it's just...weird. It's weird thinking about it, seeing this adult and this child alone together and knowing that they're going to end up married.
I'm not saying it couldn't be done well, I'm sure there are fics that have done it, but personally, my take is "Do we need to do it that way?" I've definitely said in the past that I could wind up shipping them, now, in hindsight, I doubt it. It's just weird to think about it.
Then again, I can't picture Sesshomaru getting married to a human for the life of me. And if he was ever going to be in a healthy romantic partnership it would need to be someone who'd call him out on his bullshit regularly, and I can't see any version of Rin doing that without an insane character shift. She'd be completely unrecognizable from her child self, which isn't a bad thing but I'm still not crazy about the idea.
Kagura is the only one who comes close.

On the bright side, usually the federal crime is the grand finale to shit like this(i have unfortunately lived this before), but on the bad side the damage is already done and even the show coming back on in june may not even save this steaming pile of shit we call the fandom. Too many assholes who have sadly enabled this until shit hit the fan (complete with doctored discord ss and convinient scapegoats, damn this was truly inuyasha/yashahime 2.0)
I'll still be here, my cringe ass fics will still be here and i honestly hope this doesn't repeat itself

Crickets chirped and the wind blew as Kagome made her way to her home that didn't feel like home. No, nothing was quite right anymore.
Three years had passed since Narakus defeat. Three years since she was trapped in the Shikon jewel. Three years since she was tricked into returning to the future, her present.
After graduation, her friends tried so hard to help her be happy again. She had to give them that. But they didn't understand. No one did. How could they?
During her time away, Kagome had changed. No longer the naive and trusting girl she once was, now she was simply traumatized.
Depression was never a word she would have associated with herself, but that was the only way to describe the way she felt.
At one time she held onto hope that an older InuYasha would one day appear. But then she remembered, in her time, there were no yokai. He was gone. She would be forever doomed to live in a world without the four people she cared most about. That thought alone kept her awake at night. Sango, Shippo, Miroku, InuYasha. They were long dead in her time and she didn't even know how they'd fared.
Did Sango and Miroku ever get married? Did Shippo get his nine tails? Did InuYasha find a home? Did they miss her as they aged and passed on?
Questions she would never get answers to plagued Kagome to no end. She didn't even know where they were buried, though she suspected it was somewhere on her shrines property.
That was the silver lining in her mind. Her shrine, her home, had once been the burial ground of the village from five hundred years in the past. The village that grew and expanded to become the Tokyo of the new millennium.
It was with that thought that Kagome held onto as she entered the part of the shrine that held the bone eaters well, completely unaware of the three sets of eyes following her.
_____
"She's getting worse." The cracking voice of a teenaged Sota whispered. Just because he was six years younger than his sister didn't mean he didn't understand her feelings.
He loved his sister as much as a brother could. She was his hero, brave, confident, and honorable. Seeing her this way was killing him slowly and he didn't think he could handle seeing Kagome hurt for much longer.
"I know." His mother was just as concerned, if not more. Her daughter had always been such a cheerful girl, but after her last return, something changed.
She knew Kagome had played a hand in countless yokai deaths. That she had seen things, lived through a war and won. But she never could get her daughter to tell her just what happened in those three terrifying days.
Kagome wasn't the same anymore. This world filled with people and technology wasn't suited for her anymore.
"Do you think she'll go back?"
"The portal has been closed for years, Sota." That sad reality was one her daughter was faced with. For all intents and purposes, four of the people closest to her had died the day the well sealed shut. "I don't think she can ever go back."
"Jii-chan said she will go back." His mother's shocked look brought nothing more than a shrug from the teen as He looked toward the shrine that housed both the well and his sister's sorrow. "He doesn't know when it'll happen, but he's certain the old stories about the Miko and the Yokai are about Kagome & InuYasha."
It was a bittersweet feeling, but their mother knew what needed to happen. Kagome didn't belong here anymore. She would have to let her daughter go if she ever wanted her to find happiness. Perhaps destiny had been in play since the morning her baby girl was born. If so, who was she to try and stop destiny? "Then we should help her prepare."
_____
Did the well stop working, because I was afraid to go back? When the well closed and I was alone in the darkness, I was so scared and sad.
I didn't realize that I had been in the darkness for three whole days. I made Mom, Sota, and Jii-chan as sad and scared as I was. I felt bad about that, and was so happy to be back here.
But then the well closed and I was left alone again.
InuYasha?
I've been thinking this whole time about the reason I was sent to the feudal era and the reason the bone eaters well stopped working when the Shikon jewel was destroyed.
My job in that time is done and now I must live my life in my own world. A world without you.
But, InuYasha, I need to see you again.
The feeling of the wind was the first thing she noticed. Soon hearing the chirping of birds, Kagome slowly opened her tear soaked eyes. A small gasp escaped her lips when, instead of the dirt and bones she normally saw, Kagome saw a blue sky filled with puffy white clouds.
She momentarily wondered if she was dreaming when she felt a soft touch on her shoulder and heard the soothing tone of her mother's soft voice. "Kagome sweety, what is it?"
"Mamma." Looking at the mix of emotions on her daughter's face, she already knew what was happening even before it was said. "The well… it's, it's open again."
She could tell Kagome wanted nothing more than to jump headfirst into the past, but her fear was holding her back. Fear of what may happen if she returns. Fear of disappointing her family. Fear that InuYasha was long gone..."Jii-chan and Sota told me this would happen."
"What?" The mix of emotions suddenly vanished to be replaced by simple shock. "How did they…"
"I would have thought you had learned by now, your grandfather's stories aren't just tall tales." She couldn't help letting loose small chuckle at her daughter's expense. It was true though.
Before Kagome had been dragged into the bone eaters well, she never believed a word of her Jii-chans stories. She disregarded his gifts and laughed at his offerings.
Eventually, after her return, she had locked herself into the shrine with the old man and told him everything that had happened in her two year journey. She apologized and begged to be taught more about shrine duties.
She had grown so much. "It's ok Kagome."
Before her daughter could speak, fast paced footsteps could be heard dashing down the stairs. "Yeah sis! We knew this was coming, we even packed some stuff for you!"
A less hyper set of footsteps came to a stop as Kagome stared in awe. "Sota? Jii-chan? How…"
"I'm the keeper of this shrines history girl!" The old man cane off rough, but Kagome could tell by the look in his eyes that he was just trying to keep himself From breaking down. This was hard for him, to say goodbye. But it was meant to be and it is what she wanted so he'd gladly take whatever pain was necessary on her behalf. "From the minute you first returned with InuYasha close behind, I knew one day you'd leave us to be the heroine of our past."
Stepping next to their grandfather, Sota, fighting his own tears, gave her a goofy grin. "InuYasha will take good care of you sis, just don't forget about us ok."
"Sota!" Falling to her knees, Kagome wrapped her arms around her younger brother and held tight. "I love you ototo. Take care of mom ok?"
With a firm nod, the thirteen year old stepped to his mother's side and began tossing several large duffel bags into the well. Her grandfather smiled broadly and hugged his granddaughter tight for the last time. "You will live long and well. There will be many trials and tribulations, but as long as you hold on to the faith you have in that boy, you'll be ok. Live well my sweet girl."
Stepping back, Kagome accepted a mysterious small trunk from him and turned back toward the well. Each step brought her closer to the dream she'd had for three years but she faltered at the last step. Glancing back over her shoulder with tears in her eyes, Kagome knew she was saying goodbye forever. "I love you all so much. Thank you for understanding." Shooting them a final smile, she clutched the black and gold trunk in her arms and jumped.
_____
It had been as much of a normal day as the white haired hanyu could get. The morning sun was beating on his back as he left Miroku and Sangos hut after sharing breakfast with the couple. Shippo followed behind in silence as he walked through the forest that had once been his prison, now dubbed his lands by the village.
It had become a sort of ritual for them. Rise with the sun, breakfast with Sango and Miroku, then to the Goshinboku to beg before checking the bone eaters well and checking on Kaede & Rin. When they arrived at the clearing that once held the portal to the future, InuYasha didn't expect much.
It wasn't that he'd given up hope, more like, he had come to terms with his fate. Kikyo had never loved him but he chased her around at every corner, abandoning Kagome more than once to chase the ghost of his past.
He had caused so much pain, he hurt Kagome so much that he knew this was his karma for treating her so badly. Maybe it was time he stopped coming. It's not like the Kami would answer the call of a hanyu anyway.
He had never wished to be human, but if he could have put this karma off until the next lifetime, he would gladly trade his demon blood. If only to see her one more time.
While InuYasha lost himself in his thoughts, Shippo stood fidgeting at the foot of the well waiting. He would never admit it, but every time InuYasha reached in the well only to come up empty handed, it broke the little kits spirit.
He missed Kagome. But he knew he couldn't take the visits anymore. Shippo would tell InuYasha that he would have to start coming alone to wait at the well as soon as he watched one last time.
Coming back to reality, InuYasha looked at the young kitsune for a moment. He looked conflicted, like he wanted to get something off his chest. But when he finally opened his mouth to speak, his eyes grew wide and he rushed to the wells edge.
Holding his breath and silently begging, InuYasha reached his hand into the well. Waiting. A few moments passed and nothing happened, just like every day for the last three years.
Damning his own nose for playing tricks, InuYasha removed his hand and sighed. With a nod of his head he turned to walk away when he heard a loud thunk.
Slowly, as if afraid of what he might see, InuYasha turned back as the second thunk hit. Confusion overtook him when he saw two giant bags in front of the well. Before he could investigate, he had to back up as three more giant bags came out of the well landing at his feet.
Terrified of false hope, he reached back into the well one last time. But this time, instead of a lonely emptiness, he felt the brush of fingertips. With one tug there, she was.

Hi there! I’m kinda new in the sesskag fandom and after the yashahime mess I wanna drown in fluffy fics lol. Any recs involving sesskag + shippo + rin (plus sesskag oc kids would be awesome) family dynamics? Thank you!
Hi Anon,
I apologize for the delay in response.
I'm in agreement with you on the need for some good fics after Yashahime. We already have a few rec lists that meet your criteria, such as the family/pregnancy list and the have kids list but there have been some new fics posted since then or that we haven’t featured before. I've compiled a list below.
If you need more fluff, I highly recommend checking out our Fluff Serial and Fluff One Shots lists.
Enjoy reading! ~ Admin Sage
