I KNEW the folks on Sleepy Hollow treated Nicole like complete and utter shit.
Also, I'm kinda saying fuck Tom Mison, as he seemed to be part of the problem. I guess all that chemistry between them during the show interviews was fake as hell
This man should've just sat there and ate his food. He's the last person who should be talking. We all remember his bullshit.
People are just as free to not ship a couple as they are to ship them, but I find it highly interesting the amount of vehement protesting this pairing is getting. It's borderline aggressive. It's like people forgot how shipping works. People are going to ship. It's the nature of any fandom. But like any other show with a Black female lead (or even a supporting character, lbr), it's unsurprising and quite on brand. It's also just as exhausting. 😒
Don’t miss my latest with @stickykeys633 of the @bhadpodcast and Tamara about #SleepyHollow. The three of us talk about the amazing pilot episode and then Tamara and I take the writers to task for their foolishness. So much wasted potential - we get into all of it!
In January 2019, I decided I was going to write a 4 chapter fic where Ichabod Crane and Abbie Mills would get together again, a sequel to a fic where Abbie never died.
Nearly four years later, I'm posting the 10th chapter of that story, finally the fixing bit on my fix it fic.
Thank you everyone who enjoyed this story (if there's anyone left). Hope you enjoy its ending!
Name a hot take you have; I’ll go first! For me, I feel that a platonic friendship and a platonic soulmate ARE NOT interchangeable terms! Furthermore, just because the word platonic is used, does not make it so! What’s your hot take? Let me know in the comments! They both start out as main characters, working together since the ep. 1. Next three seasons follow the regular m/f protagonist duo pattern: they need each other's help, there's chemistry going on, there are heartwrenching scenes and dramatic sacrifices, they learn they can only truly rely on each other - so the next step is to let them be together, right? Wrong. The next step is to let lt. Mills make a final sacrifice, which on top of killing the pairing insults her as a character - suddenly from the POV protagonist she started as she's demoted to secondary character who always was just there to be the main guy's support. There are some feelings acknowledged, but no confessions or promises exchanged during the final fleeting reunion. Three-seasons-worth of build-up and then she dies.
One day I hope the term “shipper” will fade from discussion. I know the term originated with my Mulder and Scully and was a way to highlight fans interested in their relationship becoming romantic, but it seems the name has become a pejorative term and a way to dismiss and segment fans. Besides the media and often male showrunners dismissing and showing disdain for fans for even having the audacity to be interested in any romantic elements on a show, there seems to be a belief that if you do ship characters than that is all you are interested in. There is no understanding that you can not only embrace the entire story but that it only enhances your interest in the overall narrative.
