gold is constantly freezing. like he constantly feels hypothermic to the touch and gold himself is just always cold and complains about it . HOWEVER . boyfriends jacket .

OH . red is also a gigantic heater . walking furnace . gold will literally cling to him at night just because his average body temperature is high . like yk how lizards sleep on warm rocks thatve been in the sun ??? red is the warm rock and gold is the lizard

just a general hc but both of them have autism which is why red is incredibly nonexpressive and why gold tends to carry stuff with his mouth instead of with his Brand New Prosthetics (being unable to feel whatever he's holding is just a general sensory issue) (he also doesnt like the feeling of the metal grinding on itself/feeling of the arms when they do move because they sort of vibrate)

ew ew ew i’m just trying to get comfortable in bed so i can go to sleep but my hair is rubbing on my ear and i HATE IT it feels so gross and makes my brain go EUGH, and i can’t put my hair up because i also hate sleeping with it tied back, and just. my sensory issues can suck my dick, i swear to fucking god- i’m so fed up with it. all of it.

i hate it!!! i hate that i have to wear shoes and socks, because while i know they’re important, if i’m not actively walking or doing something in them make my feet feel like they’re gonna throw up- most shoes are tolerable, and it goes away after a while, but DOC MARTENS ARE HORRIBLE FOR IT (i still wear them anyways because they were expensive and also i need every other gay person in a 90 foot radius to know be hat i am also gay lmfao)

socks are NOT to be worn unless i am wearing shoes as well. the second i take off my shoes and get back to my room, the socks go into the laundry basket, because otherwise i will LOSE IT (fun fact, im so used to not wearing socks that ibe learned slide super far on hardwood floors without them- it’s a special skill of mine that absolutely blew my 12 year old cousin’s mind lol)

i hate that there’s a huge list of foods that i don’t like, solely based off the texture. beans, mashed potatoes, actually just potatoes in general, fatty steak, tomatoes, etc etc, because it’s so limiting and i’m judged by everyone around me for being a picky eater even though it’s not my fault

i hate that certain sounds make my brain short circuit; that there’s a particular pitch of voice that, if the person talks too loudly for too long, starts to physically hurt me. i especially hate that my mom has that exact pitch- because it means i just have to grin and bear it.

i hate that i can hear electronics buzzing at night, because i have led lights above my bed and chargers right next to my pillow and sometimes they’ll start to buzz and it’ll drive me nuts- but i can’t unplug them, because i have to charge my phone

i hate that the sound of blowing a raspberry with your tongue makes my entire body recoil and my mouth feel absolutely disgusting. it’s the most physical reaction i have to any kind of sensory input, and it’s horrible. you know that feeling when you eat way too much super sweet frosting and your whole mouth feels tingly and gross? that’s the best way i can describe it. it’s mind-blowingly terrible.

c!ranboo repeats words a lot to try to say them "right," can get stuck saying certain words / sentences again and again until it's perfect. he hates eye contact.

hes very texture sensitive n only likes certain foods for that reason, altho he cant always remember which foods he likes n which ones he doesnt. hes also very sensitive to bright light, both due to sensory issues + from being from the end which is darker than the overworld.

he also sees person to person interaction sort of like a video game and relies on trial and error to figure out how to do conversations "right" (right by nt standards).

in terms of ocd he has more intrusive thoughts n repetition n checking compulsions than anything else, no cleanliness ocd im tired of that being the only symptom thats talked abt. he always goes back n checks things n u can often find him doing things in 3s or 7s.

hes very prone to overworking himself and trying too hard to do things the way he sees as correct which exhausts him and he often works far too long at things like mining because he wants to do them right and he wants to get as many resources as possible (to prove himself to be a worthy partner :') )

c!tubbo is about the exact opposite in terms of getting things done in that he Doesnt. he gets overwhelmed very easily n it's only gotten worse as he's gotten older. he frequently has complete shutdowns bc of executive functioning issues n will just Do Nothing and hate himself about it.

however hes also very hyperactive and hyper focuses easily. any topic that is even slightly enjoyable he will spend hours researching, leading to headaches from sitting in the library trying to read and inhaling dust all day.

he masks a lot due to anxiety n tries to appear as "normal" as possible which is often a train right straight to dissociation.

he scripts out conversations with everyone but close friends and will go blank when someone goes off script- like if he goes to buy two lemonades and they say theyre out of lemonade it takes him quite a few seconds to process it, and longer to try to create a new script with the new decision, which leads to very stressful situations when talking to new ppl

he doesnt understand sarcasm at all, but ranboo, who uses sarcasm a lot as a way to blend in more with neurotypicals, is almost always able to explain what's meant when tubbo misses sarcasm

he also hates bright lights. he and ranboo have dim torches in their mansion with the only exception being the library, where there's much more light to make reading easier

he hates asking for help. hates it, he thinks it makes him weak, but it doesn't, and thats something he's still trying to internalize. he sometimes watches tommy for an example of a friend he looks up to ( :') anon u did not say "sprinkle in c!clingyduo" but I Am Anyway) who is trying to get help for his mental health to prove to himself its ok to do so as well

thinking about ranboo crying and tubbo trying to wipe his tears away so they dont burn him. also thinking about tubbo crying and ranboo wiping his tears and not flinching even though it stings.

ranboo listens to lemon demon constantly because he's cool. tubbo grows to love it even tho normally hearing the same few songs on repeat for ages would drive him mad

tubbo n ranboo keep michael inside to keep him safe but sometimes on snowy nights when theres nobody in sight and hasn't been in days theyll go outside and make snow angels and ranboo always makes sure to wear extra layers so he doesn't get hurt by the snow so he can spend as much time as possible with his son and husband

disclaimer that I personally do not have autism so i am sorry if the things I mention may not be entirely accurate or these shows/movies are actually be bad rep-

i honestly haven't come across/heard of much media that includes autistic characters or portrays them well.. :/

Atypical isn't bad I think? it's a tv show on netflix, the main character, Sam(m, white, teenager), is autistic, and through him other autistic characters are shown in support groups and group therapy, but they're small characters. it does sometimes portray autism as a burden to the rest of the family. night light - who/what makes you feel safe?

anything that emanates a specific type of warmth that is special to me! i also feel safe when im in small spaces covered with literal piles of blankets and being held and or in the company with someone i love and trust! pressure stims make me feel super safe and grounded and calm but sometimes i have a need for that good old fashioned human connection. i don’t get cuddles from anyone tho lol but hugs are nice and i don’t actually mind physical touch even with sensory issues with those i love. i think it’s sweet! even when it’s uncomfortable haha i also have a good friend who always makes me feel safe when im with them! they should know lol i love them!! 😌

hmm the perception of home has changed a lot for me after i moved. like my whole concept of home changed. again when im with people i love like family and friends (possibly someone closer in the future??) or with my cats i feel very at home no matter where i am. honestly all of these asks could just be “same it’s my loved ones” cuz it’s the answer to all of these i think haha also really my cats make me feel at home and also a few nostalgic items!! also anything that reminds me of home so certain sounds or tastes or similar experiences!!

lol of course it’s my loved ones again what a shocker! but honestly i used to swear by chocolate milk. sounds soo weird out of context lmao but when i was like a teen i discovered any time i had hot chocolate or specifically cold chocolate milk it would always help my anxiety and it was like magic for me. one time i had a really bad anxiety attack and i literally walked out in a city at night to a late night corner market to buy a small cafeteria style carton of chocolate milk and walked back just drinking chocolate milk at night and looking around the city. i wonder what they thought of me at the market. dorky disaster gay teen buying chocolate milk at midnight. it was one of the strangest nights of my life and i felt terrible but it still helped! so hot chocolate or chocolate milk haha or anything that may be of comfort to me. but sometimes nothing really helps and you just have to feel it and be upset also if i am hugged when upset or someone stayed by my side until i felt better or fell asleep i would cry

anyway!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH,,, ed ( @tactfulgrimalkin ) is the one doing the actual writing but we plan everything together and i edit and do artwork so he deserves lots of love for the great writing…i dont remember what else i had here before tumblr deleted it so i hope thats the gist of it 

eodwulf is a gay disaster of a bastard man and astrid is SO fun and im SO GLAD UR EXCITED TOO BECAUSE WE SURE ARE

anyway you just opened pandora’s box and i’m very sorry for the length of the rest of this answer but here we go prepare for some cursed content necessary to answer that question ( | ) w ( | ) it was a Wild Ride getting these two characters to where they are boy howdy 

so the thing is in order to explain how we created these characters i actually have to get into the origins of the fic on the whole because the two are inextricably linked, and also, the origins of this fic are incredibly cursed and you can send all ur hatemail right here go on blast us we’re ready 

but we were talking about caleb and how we’re both excited for whenever astrid and eodwulf turn up, and the thought came up for basically the rough skeleton of that scene in chapter 2: 

“hey how messed up would it be if instead of them both hunting him down like we’re expecting…one of them comes in with a huge savior complex and sincerely thinks he’s delusional and should still be in the asylum, how MESSED UP would that be” 

…and then shortly after that, this happened

also that pic of caduceus didnt exist back then i went back and got this screenshot just to share the curse with you all

ANYWAY

in classic us format we got carried away and eodwulf got slotted into the role of that scene in chapter two and his character was largely developed around that scene, like, what kind of person would still be clinging to caleb after all this time to that degree to make that happen? and what was come up with was an extremely avoidant person clinging to a fantasy version of things wherein they don’t have to fight

(eodwulf was developed into a Person before astrid, i should note at this point, and ed did most of that developing; i took point on astrid later on)

but around this time i went “screw it im gonna do some concept art we’re both in too deep now” so here’s some of that for u guys 

started with them all as teens and did a couple sketches as well as one of baby (well. teen. so baby) caleb/bren/we were calling him felix at the time as some of u probably already know 

first draft had astrid with longer hair than eodwulf lmao check this out 

flipped the hair length on those two which was for the best because at the time we were imagining eodwulf as a bit more mischevious which is another thing that got reversed over time now astrids the prankster and eodwulfs the overworked mom friend because bren takes astrid’s ideas and makes them SO MUCH WORSE but he still looks better with longer hair and then i played around w/ colors for a while and wound up w/ this

voila, the initial kid concepts, to which subtle yet vital changes were  made after time. if any of you are curious about if im frustrated that that’s still the best i’ve ever drawn eodwulf’s nose the answer is yes. yes i am. 

astrid’s hair is not messy enough, theres not enough freckles, and she does not look ready to fight the entire world for a dare. 0/10. 

anyway then i did adult versions which look WAY OFF NOW LMAO 

eodwulf with way too much beard, looking far too messy when he ought to look very clean so that he can hide how much of a disaster he actually is, and also a glimpse into the very boring Ice Queen/Heartless Bitch we vaguely had astrid as to start with. even more out of character tho is the earring, astrid as she is today would absolutely never tolerate an earring unless she absolutely had to, girl’s got sensory issues but she didn’t back then. ALSO STILL NOT ENOUGH FRECKLE 

anyWHO a while after this it was decided that eodwulf has ADHD, something both the authors have a whole lot of lmao, and that was the point where ed REALLY took off and developing eodwulf went out of control and we both went Well I Guess We’re Gonna Have To Write This At Some Point Now

and with that happening is when developing astrid took more priority i think, because man, at that point in the game she came way too close to that really  annoying trope that shows up in fanfic a lot wherein The Girl is A Bitch who is Getting In The Way Of ~*The Yaois*~ and thats like, thats bad. we knew from the outset we were absolutely not setting this up as a love triangle because we both hate those but even w/ her having no romantic relationship to either of the two, like…she was kind of just There and the one who was most loyal to trent (the only thing of her original characterization that really stuck, honestly) and sooo boring???? 

so like, and i say this honestly, i managed to COMPLETELY FORGET that “reverse sasuke” cursed comment from the beginning of all this and STILL go “well what if we made her more like caleb’s rival that’d be fun” 

and that’s how astrid sorta wound up accidentally morphing into the Scrappy Underdog of this anime trio and calling her a naruto analogue is extremely cursed but also not inaccurate tbh 

started out with the concept of her popping into bren’s window because she heard they were doing magic and wanted to learn it too and evolved from there; we decided that she was gonna be neurodivergent too but, hilariously, initially that she was “the best at pretending to be neurotypical” (WE COMPLETELY REVERSED THAT AND IT IS FOR THE BETTER. SHE’S SO MUCH MORE FUN NOW) and made her also autistic because it one meant she could be like SAME HAT at bren really hard which’d make her feel more like part of the group instead of just the odd one out, and two because it fits with the whole rivals thing

branching off of that we made her just. INCREDIBLY direct. like. astrid’s thought process is “how can i accomplish what i want accomplished with the smallest number of steps? what are the consequences of doing it this way? do i give a shit? no? im gonna do that.” 

(which is why she climbed a tree to get into bren’s attic instead of using the door because that way she just completely skipped having to convince his mom to let her in)

i cant get into it much here because so many spoilers and we’re gonna explore it all, but like, astrid’s backstory turned into this exploration of the intersection of sexism and ableism especially as applied to a medieval-esque society in which the word “autism” doesn’t even EXIST and in which a convenient double standard exists Right There in the form of bren and like,, its gonna be good guys im excited for it 

as far as characters tho she does also have just a touch of Vimes from discworld to her, albeit like, she’s lawful evil to his lawful good, but she’s got the same tendency to stick REALLY FIERCELY to the rules that she thinks are important, even when they inconvenience her, even if it’d be so much easier to bend them just this once 

and for songs i cannot link like any astrid songs because they all might accidentally give away so much BUT I CAN LINK AN EODWULF SONG 

this one was HUGE for him 

uhhhh i think that’s everything i can think of that we can say right now unfortunately so i’ll end this with a comparison to the current teen designs we have now that are being used in the actual fic, even tho im not fond of how bren came out in this picture, but like, for the sake of comparison

Keith’s biggest problem has always been empathy. It’s both a strength and a weakness - lately mostly the latter. He feels intensely enough even without telepathy, so being always connected to people makes his life hell (and he’s very bad at completely locking his talents down). As a result he’s constantly tired, grumpy, and guarded. Paranoid, even, since his return to Los Diablos - he’s not about to make the same mistakes that got him a fate worse than death in the past.

Having more of a tactical mindset, Keith relies on subtlety and stealth to get things done. Slow and steady wins the race, and he likes to consider every option before committing. Despite that he is quick to think on his feet when needed and can wiggle his way out of trouble... most of the time. But he’s not infallible and not without impulsivity, especially when it comes to certain people. It’s hard to remain logical when eaten alive by your emotions, and Keith has plenty.

Above all, Keith just wants to live. But the scars left by Heartbreak and the Farm run deep, leaving deep-seated hatred and fear, forming into a need for revenge. That need has grown into a desire to tear the system down, whatever the cost: Keith believes that’s the only way he’ll ever be free to live in peace. But he has doubts and hates the path he’s on: it’s only a matter of time before he breaks, hopefully by someone showing him this isn’t his only option. 

relationships: Has been in love with Ortega since forever. Lately Steel has also been on his mind, much to his confusion. He cannot figure Argent out and thus keeps his distance, and Herald mostly just gives him a headache (though he is growing fond of him). Despite trying to maintain only professional relationships as his alternate personas, he’s growing close with Rosie and Dr. Mortum (as well as tech shop coworker Marcia).

trivia: Apparently he reads Murakami, who definitely exists and writes in the FH universe because I say so. He also very much likes words just in general, reading and crosswords in particular. His favorite color is blue and he is unable to shave without leaving some stubble behind - maybe he’s lazy, maybe he’s incompetent, maybe he doesn’t care. Maybe it adds to the lowkey depressed aesthetic. Who knows. He also likes dumb sweaters (but the black turtleneck underneath is always the same - he probably has a dozen of the same shirt smh what a disaster).

health: (because apparently this deserves its own section!) Keith is an anxious, insomniac wreck with severe issues about intimacy, especially the physical kind. It’s not uncommon for him to stay up multiple days in a row, though the effects are somewhat less severe now that he can just leave his body and slip into Eden. He’s also a perfectionist and workaholic, so at least he always finds things to do. The most serious damage is in his hands: the heartbreak fall and glass shards severed and compressed his nerves, causing motor and sensory damage. As a result, they shake constantly and he has trouble distinguishing between temperatures and small details, and his pain reflex is suppressed. The shaking he’s happy to explain away as just a side effect of his caffeine addiction, which is no secret to anyone. He’s able to somewhat mitigate the effects with specialized gloves so he can still do tech work, and the villain suit has built-in accommodations.

Evenfall is the polar opposite of Keith. He’s confident, cool and detached, menacing, and shares none of Keith’s many fears and anxieties. He’s willing to do what needs to be done, but he’s not unreasonable, quite the opposite. If he can, he will take a non-intrusive and peaceful approach, preferring a polite discussion to a brawl. 

Above all, Evenfall is after justice - and more specifically justice given, not taken. He won’t abuse telepathy to get people on his side, hoping to cause real change. It might be silly and idealistic, but underneath the armor is still the softness of Keith, and Keith doesn’t want to become what he hates so much. He still thinks like a hero and prefers to get his funding by stealing from other villains now that he can feasibly do so.

So far, no mission of Evenfall’s has gone wrong... badly, at least. The meticulous, almost obsessive planning has paid off, and he knows his limits. No objective is worth his life or his identity, and he’d rather back off to fight another day than risk it.

Eden is everything Keith is not. Confident, sexy, charismatic, mischievous, and very, very female. Not that Keith minds much, he’s good at compartmentalizing, and more importantly, he was always good at being he was supposed to be. That extends to his alternate identities.

Eden is a face, a business front, but Keith can’t bring himself to think of her as a tool. She is a person - not him, really, and also nothing without him, but she’s still a person. And though it’s not real, he’s growing very fond of the masquerade, and he’s very good at pretending things can be real. He does it enough in his own body. 

But more than anything, Eden is for business. Even if he sprinkles fun and games in between there with Mortum, with Rosie, that’s what she was designed for and that’s what she’ll stay as. If things go south, she’s the part Keith will have the least trouble abandoning.
