After a pandemic-prompted hiatus, @designmiami was back on track for its 17th edition which took place between December 1 – 5. Welcoming visitors at this year’s fair was Tomorrow Land, a public installation by Portland and Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary designer @alexproba that has transformed the Miami Design District (@miamidesigndistrict) into an interactive playground bursting with candy-bright colours, organic shapes and zany patterns. Designed in Proba’s signature style, the 21 large-scale sculptures marry the dreamlike surrealism of Salvador Dali, the energizing exuberance of Keith Haring and the zany mischievousness of the Memphis Group. Complemented by an interactive, virtual game from Portland-based design practice Enjoy the Weather, the fun-packed installation “harnesses”, in curators @anavaprojects’ words, “the power of design to spread a little joy and a sense of community”, a lofty mission matched by a deserving timeframe – on view until May 2022 with a selection of sculptures staying put as permanent fixtures. Aurora Fresh off successful collaborations with ‘Cooler Gallery’ and Sarah Sherman Samuel, California-based ‘Concrete Collaborative’ have unveiled their latest release.
