probably open my heart bc i worked really hard on it and i didn’t think i could write something like that. i don’t wanna write long fics all the time (oof) but i love this one so much and i’m proud of it and i worked with some great people and it was just a really fun experience all around.

Do You Have Any Fanfic Or Profic Goals For The New Year?

NO. No goals, just survive. We’re not making predictions, we’re not setting goals... we’re just trying to... casually ease into 2022 and chill the fuck out and wear our masks and get our damn shots. i’d like to write things i wanna write, that’s about it.

yes! big bang was a big undertaking for me and so was kinktober but i had a blast doing both and really love what i wrote.

Story Of Mine Most Under-Appreciated By The Universe, In My Opinion:

i always say if i’m on fire, you’ll be made of ashes too because its rough and sad and not everyone’s cup of tea but i love it.

i also think a couple of my kinktobers deserve more love, like enough, a pre-war stucky fic, and elevator, which is hobrien with a subby hoechlin.

Also all femslash is underappreciated? just in general. so all of my femslash, too!

i’m having a lot of fun writing my wip nothing feels better than this, but happy birthday was also really fun to write

i don’t know? there’s little bits of me all through my fic but i’ve never looked back and been like OH SHIT I WROTE MYSELF

Biggest Disappointment:

nothing! i write for fun and try to keep it that way, so i avoid putting pressure on myself or joining too many things or worrying too much about reaction/lack thereof.

Biggest Surprise:

I can actually finish things, if I give myself a routine but am willing to be flexible and have people cheering me on and holding me accountable.

My Favorite Part Of Fandom This Year:

possibly dragging at least four of my mutuals into 911 fandom 😂

Second, I just read on insta that Isayama said he's sorry for the disappointment he caused the fans with the last chapter?? And the poster also mentioned there were fans who bullied his editor, went after erens va and shit on the animation??

Aot really has the worst fanbase smh.... Why are so mean and ungrateful? I too was initially mad, then disappointed then lukewarm about the ending but wouldnt dare go after yams. We have to understand that he doesn't owe us. The mentality of: the fans made you famous and you got profit out of them so you must bow down and fullfill their every wish is bs and so so toxic and wrong.... We have to understand that when an artist and/or author puts something out it's their vision, their story and we can either enjoy it or not. It's a personal issue if you didn't like it, not the artist's problem.

Just because we can hide behind a keyboard doesn't mean there's not a real person at the receiving end of the words we type out and that what we say is less hurtful bc "it's just the internet you can voice your opinion". There must always be human respect, it's the basis of our societies existence and if there's no respect there's just chaos.

God, the aot fandom really is either too obsessed with a character, shitting on another and bully each other for that and oh dear lord, the ship wars....

We all need to go outside, touch some grass and just get back on earth and reality. In the end, aot is just a piece of media and just bc you didn't like stuff about it, it isn't the end of the world and doesn't give anyone any right to go after Isayama. He did nothing wrong or illegal, he just told the story how he envisioned it. Just bc you interpreted things otherwise/had theories and ships that didn't happen/your fave died doesn't give anyone excuse to bully. We have to understand that while we can entertain hcs and theories and whatnot, this is Isayama's work, his blood and sweat and in the end he gets to write what he wants. And no matter what we all think, no one knows the aot world and characters better than their creator so in the end he knows what is best.... Maybe perhaps you didn't understand it? And rereading with an open mind can help put some things in perspective? We all need to stop rushing and hating, seriously now.

Let's all just be nice, positive, sit back and open our povs, accept other opinions and approaches, be more mindful of what we say and how it'll make someone feel. Fandoms are supposed to be a fun experience for everyone as long as there's respect of others opinions (not counting ableist, homophobic and racist opinions, people with this type of thinking should revaluate and then come back). It's ok if in the end you didn't like something, it's a valid opinion. Disrespecting someone's hard work isn't though...

And let's all stop pointing fingers bc that will just keep going in an endless circle of hate. Generally let's all relax and have more respect for one another and listen instead of throwing insults to each other and the creator when he never hurt anyone except some egos ig.

This little thing popped into my head. Fyi, the canon timelines are thrown out the window for this so... Yeah.

I think he'd really enjoy metal in general. I can totally see him unknowingly stomping to some Marilyn Manson and Meshuggah, though the lyrics and message probably will just fly over his head.

He listens to some heavy shit, but probably all the more mainstream bands/artists.

The loudness and organized chaos of the genre fills the void in his soul and reflects the state of his mind, despite his stoic and non-verbal outer demeanor.

Someone please do everyone a favor and introduce Michael to some death metal. Admit it, it really fits his aesthetic.

This is just based on speculation, but I suspect a 70% possibility of RZ Michael resonating with Cannibal Corpse. Fight me.

He hates classical music with a burning passion. Back in Smith's Grove, they played Bach's Air Sul G on tap. (its canon in the first movie lmao) He hates it. Mikey no likey.

Freddy Krueger

This guy is ngl a supporter of music taste discrimination. You listen to pop? Disgusting. You listen to Jazz? Disgusting. Classic rock is the epitome of all music.

He'll call you music-related slurs you never knew existed.

As stubborn adamant as Freddy is, he does harbor some guilty pleasures, including 70's hair metal and glam rock. Pshh. What a heckin hypocrite.

Some of his all time favorites are Guns N' Roses, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, and AC/DC.

Y'know what I have a hard time imagining the type of music Tommy listens to. Kutos, Mr. Hewitt, you have defeated me.

Thomas enjoys Muse, Evanescence, and Radiohead. (Fight me)

He just loves how emotional their songs are. He'd have one earbud in as he works away at his projects for hours. The music helps him concentrate, it is also a source of emotional support to him.

Hearing the heart-wretching lyrical content of 'Lost in Paradise' performed so beautifully by Amy Lee's angellic voice is really comforting to him. It's like hearing about another person's experiences. It makes him feel less alone in dealing with his emotional and mental turmoils and burdens.

The first time Thomas heard 'Creep' by Radiohead, he almost cried.

He also listens to My Chemical Romance sometimes. He only knows the Black Parade album, but he loves it. If 'Creep' didn't make him cry, listening to that entire album from top to bottom sure did. He started sobbing half-way through 'Famous Last Words'.

No matter how stinky Brahms is, you can't tell me that he's not classy.

Schubert is his bitch. Schubert's style tends to be quite majestic and/or dreamy, (generally) and can change color/sound very abruptly yet appropriately. (This is just my opinion based on experience with Schubert's pieces, but then I only know his piano pieces soo) (let's still cue that maestoso to scherzando transition)

But of course, Schubert isn't the only thing he listens to. He prefers the romantic period, so Mendelssohn, Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Shostakovich, Brahms, Schumann, you get the gist, all the staples. Oh yeah Elgar too. To be a proud English lad.

Vincent Sinclair

He'll have 'emo' and 'classical' with a side of metal, thanks.

I headcanon that Vinny McWaxy is an INFJ, so the boy is likely prone to crippling existentialism. It would make sense for some aspects of his music taste to reflect that.

You'll never hear this from Vincent but he enjoys sexy-time music. He has this whole erotic playlist he listens to while working. (Boy likes to feel sexy on the job, I respect that.)

I think its pretty much canon that Vinny loves MCR. (Hello fellow emo piece of shit 👋) His favorites are everything by them really. A hardcore fan. He used to have MCR, P!ATD, and 30 Seconds to Mars posters plastered everywhere in his workshop until he had to remove them all to add to the intimidation factor of his waxy hell for passer-bys. For the record, he is very gay for Frank Iero.

On the metal part of his spectrum is mostly classic metal, groove metal, and thrash/heavy metal.

Rammstein, Pantera, Vildhjarta, new and old Metallica, Dream Theatre, Coheed and Cambria. His bitches.

He also uses music to scare victims when bringing them down to his workshop. *cue horror movie soundtracks*

Dad rock, classic rock, pop punk, punk rock, old school pop, his shit.

He listens to a lot of the same bands as Freddy, but Bo (generally) doesn't discriminate and explores a more diverse variety of music.

Its a fandom canon that Bo loves Avenged Sevenfold. I totally agree.

A7x is the perfect amount of cynical, political, and shred for Beauregard, (I hc that ge hates his full name so plz don't ever call him Beauregard)

He listens to the radio whenever he's at work. Whatever that might be.

Will NEVER admit it, but he thinks Vinny's music taste is dope as hell.

He'll turn off the radio just to strain his ears to listen to Vincent's music downstairs. No one will ever know that though. You don't.

Actually likes classical music too. Its not one of his main genres but there's one piece he really likes, Second Movement of Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Major.

He never thought he'd enjoy this type of music. Its so.... Calm. He discovered that piece from Vinny's playlist. When he first heard it on his brother's speaker, he fell in love. It was one of the extremely rare cases in which he'd be committed enough to ask Vinny the name of the music.

Tiny shuffle for man-kind, huge fuckin step for Bo. Good job Bo, we're proud of you.

If I could give fat viewers advice (esp those who are new to dating, struggle w self love/fear of dating/sexual confidence) it'd be- stay particularly mindful what smut/p*rn/content u view. When I was a SW/SB so therefore NEEDED to have an incredibly strong sense of self worth/autonomy- I made it a point to join fat positivity and educated myself on “fat politics.” Surround myself irl/online w supportive, intelligent, talented fat artists who many times are also disabled POC lgbtq folks so we connect on multiple lvls.

I made sure not to consume nsfw stuff that fetishized my body. In general-nothing that'd demean/degrade/dehumanize ppl like me, or marginalized ppl in general. Some things im gonna see, it’s unavoidable, like fat jokes that crop up in a show im into that usually never makes comments like that. seeing my body excluded when it comes to the kinda fat models plus size stores use. The pain in seeing no one like u in mainstream media or even in the fandom. But as u continue to avoid consuming any content (nsfw AND sfw) that partakes in fat shaming/stereotypes/stigmas/body hate- u begin to notice the impact it has on u. u have an increase in yr confidence bc u got away from that other shit. u know how to spot warning signs. ESPECIALLY IN THE BEDROOM. U know how to/aren’t afraid to ask for what u want, u aren’t as easily pushed around or made into a dirty little secret w basic dudes who’re too chicken abt their pals knowin they like a fat girl. not sayin it’ll be all perfect, but u know how to take less shit from bad partners. and good sex, that u know u were bomb at, gives u a glow and radiates into other parts of yr life. u can use it to reduce stress, alleviate pain, get a boost in confidence/mood, use it to connect w someone on a deeper lvl, good sex can change all kindsa shit for u lol. not to say it’s necessary bc ik for some folks it just aint for em. but still removing that kinda content i mentioned can help regardless if yr sexually active.

if u still wanna watch porn, switch over to indie stuff (not the same as what they call amateur and not on well known porn sites) if u wanna see more relatable bodies and sex acts u could more possibly recreate. Indie scene is filled w awesome actors, the work is more artistic/aesthetics, way more realistic than shitty p*rnhub/xtube/tumblr. Still not totally close to real life. but it has its moments. what most p*rn never shows- like seeing em not cut out when a fat trans actor had to stop to readjust and get more comfortable, that kinda realness helps inform those who’re fat but haven’t been intimate that it's totally normal if they cant do all the insane stunts that go on in smut/p*rn.

srry to rant ig the point I’m making is, even if u have no experience but yr aware the fat nsfw content u view isn’t something u can relate to- still tread lightly in those waters. Our subconscious is more powerful than we know, we become inundated to unhealthy thinking patterns or beliefs. something even like the fact that it just plain isn’t sexually satisfying for most all fat bodies to approach sex the same way as shown time and time again. or when we do have sexual encounters we come away w shame or trauma bc our bodies didnt react how we were trained to believe they would/should.

imo Sierra performing is frustrating bc even if the other performers are tied w 5sos at least theyre making a name for themselves on their own. With Sierra it came out of nowhere, esp after her comment that she’s writing for other artists atm. I know this is for charity and all, &that’s great but I feel like it kinda is her taking advantage. It would be fine if she worked to promote her music/career but in the past year she hasn’t. You can’t be a silent musician to make something of your craft.

Yes! I totally agree with you! That’s why in the ask related to this in the response I said “I feel like you’re kind of pissed and I can understand why”. I actually was going to add that I felt frustrated when I read that they are performing at a charity event, because I thought she had taken the spot from another musician, but since it’s their event, I feel like it hurts less to give her a spot.

When I see this things happening, I try to put myself in the different points of view. And I was thinking about the boys’s and I can totally see why they would let her (or ask her) to perform (and put her in the poster, too). At the end of the day they’re humans, like you and me, so thinking about this, I know they might (probably) be biased.

I feel like some of us are bothered because we all have gone through this situation. We all help our friends/partners. We all want to see them succeed. So when you’re in a position where you can help out, you will do it. When it comes to people that we appreciate, we’re really biased. and I feel like with them [the boys] is extra because they developed their most crucial years on a industry that is based on this. I feel like they think they have developed good skills at spotting when they’re being fooled but they truly haven’t. I also think they might think about them back in the day when they were beginning and say “well, so many people helped us out, it’s only right for us to do so” (which is fine!) but they seem to have poor judgement on who to help.

To ground this, I feel like it irks because we all have been in that group project where you have that friend that’s struggling and you’re like “hey, here, I help you with your part, don’t worry”, but we all know that after doing it two, three, four times, we start to notice they’re not changing. They’re not doing their part again. We start to get tired. We see that friend and we’re like ‘maybe this time…’ but they don’t do it. They don’t change. And at some point you just tell them the stuff on their face or your relationship with the person falls apart.

As you say, if she were doing something, that would be different. She’s just… there.

I feel like maybe this is happening for various reasons:

1. I feel like Sierra is really lost in her career path. Which happens, and is normal. Maybe she doesn’t like music at all and just did it because she wanted to please her couple and enjoyed it because it was with him. Maybe she should consider a band if she doesn’t like going solo. And if she’s not really interested in music, I think it’s alright to step back and say “hey, I was young and I followed my boyfriend, but I’ve realized I don’t like it anymore”.

I feel like she’s really lost in the sense of “what now”. Sure, she has a degree. But I feel like after being on the public eye and seemingly enjoy it, she’s trying to keep up with this facade of a singer. Maybe she should even consider being an influencer if she just likes being the public eye but not being involved in any type of entertainment area. And I say this because by what I’ve gathered, she really likes attention, she just pretends she doesn’t. I read that she was chosen like the nicest one or something along those lines, so it means she’s really social and not the shy person she’s trying to sell us. I know I’m walking in thin ice here, but for shy people, they can fake being social for a while, but to be considered the nicest, you have to be really involved with people (and to a lot of them). In my eyes, shy people tend to choose who they will talk to because they feel interested in some way. She’s not shy, she just tries to please everyone (and this might be rough, but maybe this is one of the reasons she and Luke get along).

2. I feel like behind the scenes, Sierra is like “guys i’m really working on new music but every time I do something, it backfires! I try to pull music out, it’s considered plagiarism. But I truly love this, I just need time to heal, etc” and the boys believe this. I feel like they’re nicer to her because they might see themselves reflected on her. The boys went through rough times but the industry didn’t let them catch a breath until it ended up in a two year hiatus. I feel like they’re trying to be supportive and kind of protect her from what they have lived in the industry.

And then, you have the most media-looking side of this and it’s the fact that it will probably bring more attention now that’s she’s going to be there. Fans posting about Luke and Sierra and gushing about them sharing their passion for music (and they’re angels because it’s charity). People buying the ticket to see if something happens. Something will probably happen and the daily mail will come up with their cheesy, stupid headline about Luke and Sierra showing their love to help charity. I think it brings buzz. It’s beneficial for all of them if you see it that way.

This is how it goes. And for the non impressionable part of the fandom, is really shitty and might be even daunting to follow the band. 5SOS on their own is the shit. They’re great musicians. Funny guys. They seem grounded. They seem passionate about what they do. They are inspirational.

But with all the people and drama always surrounding them, sometimes it’s hard to stay. And sometimes it’s hard not only because it bothers you (even if it’s just a little bit), but also saddens you to see that their success is always eclipsed by other people, and it’s not even their fault or these people’s fault but their managers and the fandom.

Everything I’ve stated here are just opinions and perceptions, and I feel like I rambled about other stuff, but hopefully it made sense. In short: totally agree with you, anon.

- @zeta-jane is an absolute godsend of a friend. They are sassy, funny, talkative, energetic and so full of amazing ideas!!! Zeta is always there for me when I need someone to lean on. They’re such a kind friend and they will not hesitate, baitch to fight people who hurt me- probably because they know I’d do the same for them! They’re such good company both online and IRL, and I am blessed to have met them! I am even more blessed to be writing City of Dust and Shadows with them, which has become the longest fic either of us has ever written! We may or may not surpass it with our future collabs, however ;) They are just the coolest person ever and they deserve all the love in the world. I adore them so much!!! TUT

- @mikayu-chan is such a got damn SWEETHEART. They are trying to see the positive side of things, especially after so much fandom drama in the past, and I’m so so proud of them for trying their hardest to live their best life. They have it way too hard and I want to give them a big ole hug and many days of fun!!! They always make me laugh and we have a great time on calls! I’m glad that we see eye-to-eye on so many things and that we continue to teach each other new things all the time!! They are really an irreplaceable friend and such a joy to talk with, to write with, and to laugh with. I love you Chan

- @crazyloststar deserves the entire world and more!!!! oMg I cannot express how much I love Alex!!!!! Alex is just a big bundle of happiness and fun and she makes me so so so so so so so happy. I love calling with her and talking, I love writing with her and everything else!! We always have so much fun, I swear I can’t talk to her without laughing my ass off at least once XD we’re always DJDJDHDHDHDJD’ing at each other because we just can’t find the right words to express how hard we’re agreeing with each other/laughing omfg. I adore her and I cant WAIT to cosplay KimiYoi and RyuuTenn with her hopefully at next year’s Yaoi Con WOOT WOOT :D!!!!

- @yuudefensesquad is sUCH A GOOD BEAN who deals with SO MUCH and she just needs a big ole hug and lots of Yuuchan i stg. Caydence is such a funny funky lil nugget and I protecc her with my life okay. Her art? Flawless. Her shitposts? FUCKIN HILARIOUS. Her meta? Super engaging and intriguing! Her bravery? ABOVE US ALL LOL. She is just awesome and I’m glad I forcefully adopted her into my lil family of mikayuu nerds bc it just wouldn’t be the same without her. Caydence ily never stop being you. A lot of shit challenges her irl and everywhere else, but she still keeps her head up and man I really respect her.

- @mikaisatop is MY FRICKIN RIGHT HAND MAN. My SOULMATE. SARAHHH I ADORE YOU. You might be busy rn but I love you so much girl ;__; even though she’s busy I always bother her bc I want her to know I wouldn’t ever forget about her!! I’m so happy we got to collab so much and will continue doing so!! Winter’s Waltz is so much fun to write and I’m so happy she is writing it with me anyways despite such a busy schedule. - @6lilystrings9 IS JUST THE BOMB DOT FUCKIN COM. Lily and I didn’t super duper connect until more recently but omg talking with her is just a freakin BLAST. We always get so hype with each other, even over each other’s fandoms that we aren’t even in!!! Something about the energy in her pulls out the energy in me and we just get GOING lmao. She is so very talented and amazing and a fascinating person all around! I’m so glad we got to hang a bit at KatsuCon in 2017 but I hope we can do that again in the future! I miss her all the time!

- @weirdfairytales is the MAN. THE MYTH. THE LEGEND. Anna is just the biggest definition of a meme I can think of and I LOVE her for it. I’m so glad that we met way back when MikaYuuHell Skype existed and that she thought of the masterpiece that is Cherry Boy one wild night. I’m so glad we continued to be great friends and talk about so many things. I love when our messages get super long cause we just have so many things to say XD Cosplaying Victuuri with her at Katsu was so lit, and I can’t express how much I love her Victuuri fic too!!!

- @hannaadi88 is such. a. sweetheart. I can’t say it enough. Hanna does so much and gets so little I stfg yall need to APPRECIATE HER MORE. Her writing is STUNNING and the projects she makes for this fandom are just outstanding!!! From gift exchanges (I SAID ONS REMIX BEFORE IM SORRY i was wrong XD) to 365 Days of Mika and Yuu, she has put in so much for us constantly! She has also granted us with the lovely fic Scented, and not to mention one of my favorite fics of ALL TIME, Eye of Horus- the Ancient Egypt take on Unwritten!!! And she named it that without knowing my first tattoo is literally the eye of horus! XD I was shook lmfao and I still am. Meeting Hanna was amazing and the day I spent with her and @ihavetobenkyou (who is also a-freaking-MAZING and a big bundle of goodness!!!!!!) is one I’ll never forget. She’s so chill and just gives off this ‘wise’ aura idk why but I just look up to Hanna so much. No matter what she writes I will always support her and you all should too!!!

- @just-another-dream-about-yuu is ONE OF MY FAVORITE HUMANS TO EVER HUMAN. Julia omfg I cannot express how much I love you. TwT Julia is not only one of the most talented artists I have ever seen, but she is so sweet and fun and so full of energy and excitement!! She’s super busy with adulting so she’s not around in the fandom a whole lot but I always make sure to include her bc I won’t let her leave XD JULIA YOU CANNOT ESCAPE…. lmfao I will always drag you back… I won’t ever forget the day I got a twitter notification that someone drew me Unwritten fanart and the croaking sound I made was insane LMAO my friend who was with me was like WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED XD I was so excited!!! I still adore every piece of fanart she’s given me and I always will. Thank you, Julia, for bringing my imagination to life so many times, for showing me what you saw when you read my writing. It means more than I can say.

- @coleglend is the most underappreciated person in this fandom I swear. Or, who was in this fandom- Cole is off doing other things besides OnS, but regardless, she is so very amazing and beyond talented. I can’t even express how beautiful her art is and the emotions each piece sparks in me. Even her new Marvel artworks are just breathtaking and I truly admire them!!! I don’t know anyone who can make such detailed, visually engaging art- everything she creates belongs in a museum I swear. I want to print them and frame them for my walls!!! I look at her art all the time!!! Now that I’ve established how gorgeous her art is, talk about Cole as a person! She’s so sweet and kind and I love seeing her little posts on Instagram and such, even though I can’t understand most of them, I like seeing that she’s with friends and having a good time.

- @linnpuzzle is one of the coolest most amazing people in this fandom!!! Her art is STUNNING and as she knows, I will drop everything to commission her and buy her merch because I just am addicted to her gorgeous art!!! I am so honored to have some of her art as part of my collection of OnS things and I am forever going to treasure the commissions I’ve purchased from her!! Besides being a great artist, I love talking with Linn, too! I’m so glad we have things in common outside of MikaYuu, like Voltron and Kyo Kara Maoh :D Linn is truly too good for this world and she deserves everything okokok.

- @zilleniose-chu is truly an ICON of this fandom. We don’t talk alot outside of business stuff lolol but they are just freakin amazing!!! I hope it’s ok to ask for advice but how do you stay motivated with an art blog? I always end up deleting 😭

SO I TYPED THIS UP IN MY NOTES APP BC THIS IS SUPER LONG BUT,,,

ANYHOW! Of course it’s okay! Don’t hesitate to ask anything 💖 I hope you don’t mind the late response, I wanted to take time to answer it because it’s something I really used to struggle with too!

I can only talk about what works for me personally, but I hope my way of thinking helps you out ;;;;

Anyways, first of all I would say: don’t give a shit! About anything or anyone! I also used to have an art blog before this one (that I deleted lol) but it was because I was really focused on trying to get notes and stuff that it completely made me not want to draw??? Or I was focused too much on trying to “find a style” or keep my art blog all consistent and nice. That really made me sad and just… not want to run an art blog. So I deleted. However, for this one, I literally just started it because I was bored one day during college and just wanted to start posting stuff again so I just??? Did??? And THEN I fell back into Naruto and it became like the only thing I drew, which really is where my blog started to grow!

At this point, as you can probably tell, I really… don’t care about much lol like at first I wanted to keep this an art only blog which… UM. YEAH… now I just kinda post anything I want? Even the random thoughts I have at 2AM that are probably really stupid in hind sight. But I think that’s okay actually! It lets other people know who you are better and also kinda gets rid of some boundaries where it allows other people to share their thoughts with you too! And then you make mutuals, then friends, and it’s all really fun lol

Also notes! I think that’s really what brings down a lot of artists. Because it shows that people are viewing your content and appreciating it! And it’s completely valid. Like you’re allowed to feel upset if something you worked really hard on doesn’t get the attention you want. And I fell into that a lot too! Like in the beginning when I posted my stuff (not on this one, but the blog I deleted) I’d probably get a single note or maybe 30 at most? And it really brought down my self confidence, thinking that maybe I really wasn’t good enough and no one liked my art. But that’s not true at all! It’s just very hard to get attention on a site that has millions of other talented people. You’re also VERY talented, it’s just a matter of finding your own audience, which comes in time! Like even now, yeah I have art that hit 2k+ notes, but I also have my fair share that still are in the single digits lol and at first I was still really disheartened by that, but now I’m more okay with it, because as I said, I’ve sorta stopped trying to focus on the notes part. Instead, I just try to post what I like, and what I think is good and if it doesn’t get that many notes, instead of dwelling on feeling bad I immediately hype myself up going like “ITS OKAY!!! There’s always next time!!!” And just draw the next idea I wanted to draw to get my mind off things. My motivator is usually myself and like just always having a next thing to draw lol. And if you can’t think of things to draw, just draw whatever! Like a stick figure, usually studies of things help a lot! From photographs or real life. It really sharpens up your skills 💖 and once you start mindlessly drawing, sometimes you start to just find love in what you’re doing and you find that in the end? It’s okay that your art didn’t maybe get enough notes, because YOU love it.

However, there are definitely times where that’s not the case, and it’s okay to let yourself be sad. Vent it out, even if it’s not art. I’ve just actually taken a nap sometimes when I felt too sad to do anything lol And then refresh!

Which leads to my second point! Draw what YOU love! There’s a lot of artists, me included, that try to draw things that are “in” or popular, in order to gain a following and that is completely okay!! However, for me I just couldn’t keep up with it and I just became overwhelmed with the plethora of other talented artists that were also drawing for that certain thing and instead fell back into self-doubt. As for this time though, I literally found that I couldn’t stop drawing Naruto lmao. Like I just have so many ideas I want to draw for the fandom and I found that since I’m passionate in it, others who are into it also just naturally fall into it! So if you enjoy it, that’s the best part for sure 💖

And like, if you find that you’ve run yourself dry of inspiration, reason, or love for drawing: take a break! I actually took a really long break from art one time (I mean like… a complete year I just didn’t draw anything omg) because my self-confidence had hit rock bottom. Instead, take time to seek out shows, books, nature walks, or just anything besides art to keep you occupied and one day the want to draw will just like… hit you. And when that feeling hits, draw! And if you like it post it! Start anew too if you feel like it! And if your next drawing inspiration doesn’t hit for awhile that’s okay too 💖 it can be really pressuring to feel like you need to keep posting art in order to keep your audience engaged but that will tire you out. Just post your best quality work that YOU love! And you’ll find that the fact that it getting not many notes or any of that other self-doubt thin that we artists usually have in common, start to fade away a little.

Also, be your own hype man!! Like you didn’t get enough notes?? Post again or reblog your post again and be like “HEY!! I DREW THIS!!!” Like there’s no shame in wanting validation for your work. And if you start feeling bad about the lack of audience just be your own #1 fan. It was like that for me for awhile too, because I started this blog only a few months ago?? And of course in the beginning it was just like me and my one (1) irl friend and I was just like hey I really like this thing I drew!! I’m gonna post it!!! And just kept doing that! Make your art be about YOU and what you love and motivation will naturally come to you! Also don’t hesitate to reach out to your friends to hype you up too. Like obviously, we can’t support ourselves 100% of the time, and during those times just take time to be with people who you know will give you love 💖

And if you do decide to start up and art blog please tell me (only if you want djfjsjdjjs) I’ll support you 💖 we artists gotta stick together since we’re always our worst critic 💪

Introduction

The Mods

This blog currently has 2 mods, Queen and Spade! Following this will be both of their introductions!

Queen:

Heya! My name is Queen, but you can call me Q! I'm 19, go by She/Her pronouns, I'm AroAce, and I'm American! I'm currently in college, majoring in Psychology!

I'll be this blog's writer! Pretty much for mine and Spade's main fandoms we'll be writing rewrites and fix-its, so stay tuned for that! With all that said, I'm looking forward to interacting with all of you!

What this blog is about/does

So me and Spade made this blog on a sorta,,, whim? Like, I follow this confession page on my main and someone sent in a submission complaining about how people kept criticizing the books and kept complaining about the fandom.

I usually rant to Spade about everything, so I got my phone and I asked him, "You wanna know what would be a fun idea?", and like the buzzkill he is he responded, "I don't, but you're probably going to tell me regardless so go ahead."

And he was right but that's not important. So I brought up the post I saw and proposed the idea of making an entire blog based on that, a place where people could send in any criticism they had about a book or a show or a fandom and if someone didn't like it they could simply scroll.

Of course, we couldn't decide what fandom to do it for, so now we're just an all fandom blog.

As for what we do, we post criticism! Pretty much, we take a fandom or a source, we look at all the problems in said fandom/source, and we post well deserved criticism to a certain problem. We'll try to get AT LEAST one post per day, and we do accept submissions! We do both fandom and canon and any source so please make sure to specify! The next parts will over submission rules and how to submit criticism, so make sure to read over those carefully!

Submission Rules

Your submission won't be posted if it contains: you condoning pedophilia, abuse, rape, racism, ableism, homophobia, etc or if you suggest you engage/partake in any of the former

While we accept crits from any source, some sources are particularly problematic and we acknowledge this. Anyone trying to defend the creators of said problematic sources or defend problematic imagery/themes used in the source will be given ONE warning that the source is problematic. If they continue after that it's a block

Any and all submissions having to do with r4pe will be deleted and the person who sent them blocked. No exceptions.

0 tolerance. If an argument starts and it gets far enough everyone involved will be punished. Depending on how far you went, you can either simply get a reminder that that kind of behavior isn't okay or you can get full banned.

Any nsfw/flirts directed towards either of us will result in a permanant ban. I'm AroAce, and Spade is in a relationship already.

With the exception of r4pe submissions, flirts, and trying to defend problematic creators/sources, we have a strict 3 strikes and you're out rule.

1st strike - A Warning. A simple, "Hey, We'd appreciate it if you didn't do that!"

2nd strike - You'l be blocked for 24 hours

3rd strike - Permanent Block on here, as well as our main accounts

How to submit a criticism

I'd say it's pretty easy.

You have the option of going anon or just submitting.

ANON:

Pm us! Simply go;

"I wish to be anon please (or some variant)

Source: [book/show/game name] by author, [what it is (book, show, game)], Fandom/Canon

[Submission]"

And we'll do some good old copy and paste and post it!

I never experienced art theft until one of my works became unexpectedly popular- since then, I've found my work reposted, redrawn, and used as reference for cosplays. It's been exhausting, both seeing it, and not knowing WHERE I should stand on the issue. I've let redraws slide (with credit), but I plan on not allowing future ones from occurring. How do you deal with art theft? How do you continue drawing without thinking about the disrespect thrown at you during bad/failed confrontations?

I am so, so incredibly sorry this happened to you, and empathize very strongly with you. Art theft SUCKS, few things can be quite as demotivating as a creator than having something you’ve worked your ass off on swiped by someone else. And unfortunately, given the current internet culture, if you continue as an online artist it’s inevitable that it’ll happen at one point or another.

Because sure, of course part of the reason why we create is because we want to, but a large part of the motivation for sharing it is to hopefully get some response that people like it, whether it be in the form of likes, reblogs, comments, asks, tags, or anything else. That is the tangible PROOF that our work touched someone, and for someone who put in zero effort and has no idea how we felt while creating to receive all of that instead of us…sucks.

I think where you stand on the issue is up to you, and it’s okay for it to change. YOU always have the right to decide how you’re comfortable with people sharing your art, and your feelings are valid regardless of how they change.

Ironically enough, I just had another art theft on Instagram (my Anniversary post) super recently, so I was like HAH when I got this orz

This rant got a bit long, so the rest beneath cut but here’s a rundown about how my feelings towards art theft have evolved over the years.

For example, over the years I’ve gotten much, MUCH stricter. My earliest online art, I just put it up, no url, oftentimes no signature, no warnings in the comments or my blog bio. Admittedly I was starting out and didn’t have much viewers anyway, but the point was I still had Trust at the time.

Then the art thefts began. I started adding my url to all my illustrations, even if it was just small in the corner, as this’d let people at least find my website. Most people are too lazy to type out a url though, and I’ve seen people asking “Who drew this??” on art theft comments EVEN WHEN THE URL IS LITERALLY RIGHT THERE…

And then people started cropping my watermarks. I made my url bigger, and started adding an additional “DO NOT REPOST” to the image itself. I used to allow reposts with credits on platforms I’m not on, like fb, until I realized that people were then reposting from THOSE communities without credit and putting them into their videos and fics and I just…decided it wasn’t worth it.

I switched to no reposts PERIOD. I have lengthy disclaimers on all of my art that leads to an even lengthier FAQ post that, should people wish to look, leads to even an even more detailed post about WHY art theft sucks, as I’m explaining now.

(EDIT: ALSO, reduce the quality of the images you upload, and NEVER upload the full resolution, and try to keep you unmerged original files. This is for several reasons: no matter how much an art thief reposts your work, they’ll never have access to the higher resolution, and if they ever decide to try to print to sell for profit it’ll be shitty quality compared to anything you make with the original. ALSO, you having the maximum resolution with no watermarking with additional unmerged psd files will be proof that you are the true creator should you need to prove it, which I’ve heard is sometimes necessary to show when your art is stolen at say, an artist alley)

I also used to bother trying to talk to art reposters. I’d comment on the post, try to send messages, etc. It’s fucking exhausting, and while there are some exceptions, the VAST majority of art thiefs will feel attacked and immediately get rude and defensive. (the failed confrontations and disrespect you mentioned orz) If it’s a large community, they may even try to gang up on you. I’ve unfortunately experienced this most frequently in communities centered around other languages (mainly Spanish) because of different mainstream attitudes towards art reposting etiquette combined with a language barrier.

You will, and no doubt already have, encountered people who will argue with you, like the people I describe above. “You should be grateful for the bigger audience!” “We just want to appreciate your art, how can you be so horrible?” “We’re all fans together!” “This is fanart and doesn’t belong to you anyway!” Etc. etc. etc. It’s exhausting, it’s repetitive, it’s neverending, and you already felt awful before it even began and the stress just continues to build.

So I personally have just begun reporting people, if the service allows it. Use DMCA takedown request forms (and YES, even if it’s fanart it’s still yours if you drew it). This is stressful too because it sends your real name + info to the reposter (and wow I clearly can’t trust these people to begin with, why would I want them to have that???) but most sites (facebook, instagram, certainly tumblr, twitter) are very efficient and responsive, and in the end the relief of receiving that email that the art has been taken down is worth it. Especially with facebook, they also send a scary official warning email to the reposters which I sincerely hope will help educate them and discourage future art thefts.

I try to avoid posting public urls because yes I’m aware how mob mentality Tumblr can get, but sometimes it’s just too much. There’s no convenient form of getting my content removed (perhaps bc it’s in a compilation with a ton of other content), or for some reason my attempts to communicate have failed. In those times I have occasionally asked my followers to help, with a reminder to PLEASE always be polite and respectful, regardless of the offense. Y’all have been amazing, and this has saved me many nights of crying in the past.

I will sometimes also write lengthy posts (like this one!) to help educate. Because I do feel that art theft will continue so long as people don’t understand what it does to artists, and it’s up to the community as a whole to make that change, which also depends heavily on the consumers not just creators. A lot of art theft really isn’t intentionally meant to harm, but IS super ignorant.

But in the end, all I’ve ranted about so far is how I’ve dealt with actually removing/dealing with the shit. But the emotional pain, it builds. Sometimes, when it’s too frequent and the stolen art gets way more attention than my original that I worked my ass off on that basically flunked on my own platforms, I feel a bit of me break.

And in the end, it’s up to you what that threshold is, where posting art and feeling good about it is overwhelmed by the pain, fear, and anxiety of art theft. I’ve crossed my own threshold too many times, and once had to take an art hiatus because of it (fandom was BH6). This lead to a break in my productivity and motivation and my eventual complete departure form the fandom. I’ve seen many other artists just stop posting art entirely or moving everything to private. It’s terrible, but my feelings are with these artists, and I feel so, so sorry that they were hurt so much to the extent they had to do this.

With my current fandom and followers, I feel that regardless of how niche an audience my content tends to be geared for, I have a community that is really satisfying for me to create for, one that is responsive to me and gives me tons of feedback. This is the number one reason why i continue to feel motivated to post a ton of online content despite the risks.

The takeaway form this long meandering post: Posting online is a hobby, it’s for fun, and I don’t make any money off my public audience (unless they come to Patreon! LOL!), so I’m a firm believer that once the anxiety + misery starts outweighing anything positive you personally may get from sharing online, which for me heavily depends on my audience and their responsiveness, there’s no reason to subject yourself to that anymore and you are in no way obligated to stay. There are various methods to more efficiently get rid of art thefts without dealing with them in person which is stressful AF, and also ways of marking up your content in ways that may look less aesthetically pleasing, but will hopefully discourage art thefts, and at the very least give them very little leg to stand on should they do it anyway. How forgiving you are in art thefts also depends on you, but the more forgiving you are, the more it can get away from you. And in the end, YOU as a human are more important than any complaints about art looking less pleasing or the feelings of art thefts who don’t get to do what they want with YOUR hard work.

Sorry this was so disjointed and literally just me spewing at you, but I hope some of it was helpful ^ ^; Please let me know if I can give you any other advice, and I’m sorry again that you have to deal with this ;_;
