I have been holding back from posting anything else because this right here not only marks my 5th Patreon anniversary, but also my 300th art post! How neat is that?

Every year, give or take, I've drawn a version of Hilda from Final Fantasy XIV. For last year's anniversary I drew this one, which I wasn't entirely satisfied with and might warrant its own redraw some day.

This one here, however, is a direct remake of my very first Patreon post ever - The Ruby of Doma. To this day I don't know why I decided to title it like that considering she has nothing to do with Doma, but here we are.

I've had to halt work in the meantime (not that I was earning nearly as much as I hoped..yay) coz the depression would technically count as severe now (I checked WebMD). It's scary that none of the other professionals trying to help me have made me feel better. Maybe this developing country just isn't ready to deal with AuDHD clients yet.

And I'm just not one of the lucky ones. It looks like most people are, but I am not. And this ain't the Boiling Isles.

Like, I took a risk to work as a mental health professional...however, I didn't find out that I was struggling with ADHD burnout and autistic burnout (like, 3 decades' worth of it without it being accommodated or treated..instead I was misdiagnosed or just viewed as having a bad attitude) until after I was licensed. That..has led to a whole host of problems.

It's been a gradual downhill slide since last November, I'm not sure if it's even getting better. Worst of all, I confess that my connection with blorbo Hunter has been fizzling out. It's caused me a ton of stress :S I hung on till 8th April to post my anniversary art, but I think I need to step back and just stick to FFXIV stuff until I start to connect with the blorbo again. Coz I feel that he and everyone else have run off ahead, while I'm trying not to be crushed by depression rubble and am trying to crawl and pull myself out. And other people don't know how to get me out. (Is this a Sword in the Stone type of situation where only I can pull myself out..? Sigh)

I'll do my best to hang on. Hell, I've chosen this year to visit online friends around the world since every other area has crashed and burned so far. I'll be able to make it till then, maybe I could find inspiration again.

For now FFXIV is my main lifeline..I should also start Dungeon Meshi and other stuff..and I really appreciate every word of encouragement people have sent me in the past months. Stay safe

A man born into the Garlean Empire at its prime, who lived to see its downfall.

FFXIV 10th anniversary retrospective for one of my oldest characters, Cassius Cato. Not only is he one of the characters I've written the most about, but he also happens to be the one who has changed the most since his original incarnation, so it felt fitting for me to draw his earliest appearance alongside his present one.

I've written a lot about him over the years, and he has been a personal exploration of masculinity, relationships, identity and the effects of war. His story isn't over yet, though, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing where it goes.

Marriage

In honor of my 20th wedding anniversary, here are some more Mercuriel/Vezin pictures. I suppose could show off their wedding a little. It's thematic. I'm also probably going to ramble.

I have said it before, and I'll say it again: their relationship is weird, but it works for them.

Funny little story about this, too. When he picked the game back up again, about a month later I married my friend @petitfarron because he wanted the glamour bits for his catgirl, etc. Vezin attended the wedding, of course, and commented "Just so you know, I'm not marrying one of your dudes."

I wanted to know why, of course, not that it really occurred to me that it was a thing we should do. We'd gotten married on a MUD (uhhh like 25 years ago, Jesus Christ) (it's where we met, we're not just old, we're old turbonerds) and I figured that was all the video game marriage we warranted anyway. HOWEVER, once he told me the reason, which he said upfront was completely irrational, I found it incredibly funny.

You see, he didn't want to marry one of my boys, because it would be marrying a dude, and that's kind of gay, which he is not (he and I are both straight). I pointed out he is a catgirl, doesn't that make it ... not-gay? He replied he is a man, though. I pointed out I am a woman, a woman literally married to him, so ...? And he stressed again, it was IRRATIONAL shut UP.

Basically, fellas is it gay to marry your wife if she's playing a dude and you're playing a chick? According to my husband's irrational brain, yes.

So imagine my enormous amusement when he sent me a code for a bracelet with the message USE ON MERC

Of course, when I asked, "What happened to it being gay?" he replied, "It's still a little gay." So there you go. FFXIV turned my husband gay. But only a little.

Also holy shit was he a bridezilla, it cracked me up. Whenever Farron and I get married or renew our vows, we always have a little fuss over who has to carry the stupid bouquet. That is not a problem with Vezin. I could not pry the bouquet out of my husband's hands if I tried. He had Firm Opinions on what colors to pick, the music, what I should wear. It was adorable. He and I were equal partners planning our real wedding, but our fake one? HE WAS THE BRIDE IT WAS HIS DAY RARGH

We even did the book signing ceremony, because he wanted "as few moogles as possible." Because Vezin-the-character fuckin' hates them.

You cannot tell me they're not plotting something in that last shot.

And then they made their getaway.

During the cursed lalafel time, we decided to renew our vows for the hell of it.

Once again, he demanded to carry the bouquet and this time apparently wanted our entrance to be as ridiculous as possible. I think we managed it.

I did enjoy seeing how different the camera is when both participants are tiny monsters.

The bouquet being almost as big as Vezin: also delightful.

Any time I fantasia into a lalafel (which I only ever do because my spouse has), I am always mad about how cute they look.

6. Arapaima

My favorite fish (not for eating). Big ol’ oxbow lake babies who have to come up for air after 5-15 minutes, it’s why they survive in waters with little oxygen. I love them so much.

Imagine—Deep in the rainforest there’s a lake, one of many born of the floodwaters spilling forth from the Amazon River. The water is still, tranquil amongst the chirping, buzzing, rustling of forest life. A black caiman lurks, drifting across the mirrored surface, prowling for any aquatic life unlucky enough to be stranded here when the floodwater receded.

Something breaches. You wait for another glimpse. Your is patience rewarded with the sight of a beast below, a massive thing nearly 3 meters, ten foot. You see giant scales, dragon scales in green and black, glittering gold in the light. There’s a flash of red tail. The creature is gone.

They ARE in FFXIV but the biggest aquarium is not big enough for them and I would just feel sad seeing one floating in place. Same goes for Animal Crossing.

7. Sugar and Coffee

I’m a tea and croissant type of woman but sometimes I’m a little dessert devil fiending for any sweet. Whenever I want to have something like cake, I need to have a cup of coffee to balance it. Usually decaf because I’m not supposed to have much caffeine, but always a dark roast with a little bit of oat milk or heavy cream to take the acidic edge off. It’s bliss

8. Vaccuming

Ok wait, hear me out.

It is a necessity because I’m allergic to cats and I have two whole idiots to my name, but also it’s just satisfying. Usually I’m just mentally making the same sound as vacuum cleaner or making little race car noises when I go around the couch.

9. Crustaceans

It started as a joke. I was playing Civ VI with my siblings and husband, and I started the church of Crab God 🦀. It was all “haha holy war, Catholicism vs. a bunch of crab worshipping idiots” but then it became an inside joke that never died. Now I unironically love the lil guys. My baby baby sister got me a little crab Lego thing for Christmas, my darling got me a crab plush for our anniversary last year. 🤷‍♀️ I just think they’re cute, silly little guys.

10. Eels

I’m just gonna finish this by talking about another aquatic creature I’m fucking obsessed with. I saw ONE documentary about endangered American eels a decade ago and I’ve been obsessed ever since. Freshwater eel, Moray eels, DEFINITELY garden eels. Eels good, man.

Roleplay experience: my first experience rping was when i was like 12 or so. i started off doing cringe ass rp in deviantart group chats (if anyone remembers those). i didn't start doing (cringey attempts) @ legit para rp until i was 15 or 16 where i used deviantart and tumblr interchangeably. i experimented with panfandom rp for a bit and then a little while after that i found toa!
