Of course you can!

All things considered, this chapter actually came together really quickly. I haven't had a free weekend in a while, so that the chapter got done in a little over a month is really cool and sexy of me

My original plan was to have the bit about the war ending and the engineer leaving in secret at the end of the last chapter, and for this chapter to be the scene about Kat plus its consequences. The entire year would have passed between chapters with the reader getting no glimpses into what happened

Obviously, things got screwed up and I had to think of a way to make the war ending work with the Kat scene. I ended up with the idea of showing the passage of time with Link constantly reflecting back on how he failed to see the engineer. And I think it worked really well! For once my bad pacing was a blessing in disguise.

A part of me feels bad that I didn't do more with the friends of the Heroes Spirit, though I already struggle at times to give Midna things to do. I don't think I could have handled more of Ravio or Tetra.

There was going to be way more of Marin, including a bit about how she fades in and out of existence since she's only a dream. The engineer was always going to be the first person who knew when she was back, as he could always sense her presence.

This chapter also has one of my knew favorite lines (which I will highlight because I want to draw attention to it): "He hadn’t been a child for a long time now. But he had been in that comfortable space where he wasn’t a kid but not yet an adult. He always had the sense that if he turned around, he could walk back into a small shape his mother could hold in her arms."

Where do I start with the Kat stuff?

First off, I almost named this part of the chapter after the pudding bun. I really wanted to highlight the idea that what breaks through Link's disassociation is one person being selflessly nice to him. Like showing someone humanity begets more humanity

Also, the auburn woman who pointed out which direction Kat went in is the same auburn woman who danced with Link and spread rumors about the engineer in chapter 16. This is a detail only I care about.

Okay, so random trivia aside, let's actually talk about Kat

I have mentioned many times before that Kat is based off of Kattrin from Mother Courage and Her Children. Kattrin is a girl who became non-verbal after she was sexually assaulted by a soldier when she was a kid. You can obviously see how that relates to my Kat.

A long time ago, I mentioned that one of the deleted subplots in CTB was about Link dealing with the Waltons wanting to connect with him now that he was the hero. A character who was deleted from that plotline was a slightly older cousin who was also in the army, and was a total asshole of a man.

I bring the cousin up because the cousin's storyline was going to end with Kat-- that's right, he was supposed to play the role that the major with the slicked back hair played in this chapter.

Obviously, this would mean that this bit about Kat being continuously harassed would have gotten a lot more attention and gone on way longer before climaxing with cousin assaulting Kat.

The cousin got deleted from the story when I got rid of the subplot with the Waltons. I told myself that having a random character attack Kat would still work, but it still feels a little sudden to me.

I really wanted to keep this scene not only for the ways it forces Link to respond, but also to show how shitty soldiers are to civilians, especially men in power

And yeah, I wanted Link trying and failing to save someone to be what triggers his wake-up call. Link definitively fucked up. The only thing he has left is being the hero, and he just fucked up saving someone he cares about.

Watching you all speculate about how Kat got injured up until this point was interesting. For a long while, a lot of you thought that the engineer would be involved. I somehow never expected anyone to associate the engineer with Kat's injury.

There were also a lot of people who thought Link was the one who injured Kat. That, I saw coming. It's been interesting to see how people think about what actually happened.

Of course, I was going to have this section go all the way until the end of the next scene, where Link faces the consequences of his actions. You'll have to see next chapter what those consequences will be.

Okay, onto the present--

Up until this chapter, I was utterly convinced that Twilight and Spirit would hate each other from the moment they meet. Then I wrote this chapter and realized that Twilight's protective gene would triumph any misgivings he would otherwise have. Absolutely no way he wouldn't find out about Spirit and not decide he was going to be the only bozo standing in his corner.

I really wanted this bit with Time and Warriors talking to be at the end of the last chapter. In my brain, the pacing just makes more sense that way. I can't even regret pushing it off until this chapter because their talk ended up being so long.

I also had to write this scene twice because the first time, Time was way out of character.

I was initially worried that Time explaining his point of view would be redundant, but after blindsiding you all with his extremely bias POV during his argument with Spirit, this ended up being necessary. My bad.

But also, Time's perspective is so, so... *vague gesturing*

There were a lot of people who were really certain that the child must have hated Link after Link hit him in the temple. Since then, I have been waiting for someone to connect that scene with the moment where the engineer hit the child first. I thought someone would point this point out after Time's argument with Spirit. But, no! No one did! So I had to point it out in this chapter!

I gotta emphasize that Time is not necessarily correct. But I swore that once I got everyone comfortable with Warriors's morality, I was going to start throwing curve balls to challenge your opinion. And as Time puts it, if Spirit can be forgiven, then why not Warriors? Weren't they both responding to shitty situations? And is Warriors correct when he says it's different?

And why am I writing literary response questions for my own fic? Damn.

I originally scrapped the Wolfie scene because it was too cheesy, then I had to put it back in because I had been writing Twilight like the scene was still there

I've been worried that CTB Hyrule has become so iconic for being kinda a hard ass that he's being flanderized, so I figured he could be the one who declares that everyone is safe and sound.

Wind gets a new haircut because it's not real trauma unless your hair changes. The author is someone who changes her hair every time her life falls apart.

And he has a cool anime-esque eye patch because he's thirteen and he deserves a cool anime-esque eye patch

There actually was going to be a scene where Warriors shared his plan for the Triforce with Lana first, but I cut it since I didn't want to have the same argument twice, once with Lana and once with the Chain; it still feels a little out of character for Link to not talk to Lana first.

So the Warriors and Spirit scene

I wanted to convey that talking about everything that happened too soon would cause Warriors to sort of relive his memories and worsen his trauma. I wanted to try showing that without needing to outright state it, hence the dream-like sequence.

I think this was largely successful. People get the idea. Shout out to this story for forcing me to get good at writing trippy sequences, though. I wasn't really planning on that.

I think my favorite part about Twilight taking control is that he still needed Four to do some of the heavy talking for him. Power duo between a grown man and his 16 year old BFF

As I promised, a Triforce quest comes with a lot of morale quandaries that we now have to navigate with the characters, the biggest one being what is the definition of a war won? How do you wish for a war to be over without causing a larger disaster?

Everything about the world building for the Faovarian government and society was designed to add complications to that question. You can't annihilate the army without killing thralls. You can't use it on their ruler because they have a senate who can be replaced. They're an empire made of conquered people, so there's the risk that you could hurt an oppressed state.

But yeah, we're ready to go on another adventure. The boys are sticking together a little bit longer, and now we have to go meet up with Lincoln.

I wanted to get them on the road this chapter too, especially so that I could end with another really important Spirit scene, but I punted that off to the next chapter. Hopefully, the pacing for the next chapter won't be too weird.

And because the ending is different from what I had planned, I didn't know HOW to end things. Then I remembered how much you all liked dog imagery.

One last note: I love reading everyone's thoughts on the story, especially your thoughts on Warriors, Spirit, and Time. I am amazed by how many different takes I have seen. There is no one out there who is thinking the same thing.

On one hand, that's terrifying for me. When I was younger, I was really into the idea that a successful story left every reader thinking the same thing. The part of me that is forever 20 years old is scared shitless that someone is going to have a bad take and get mad at me for it.

The part of me that is older and somewhat wiser wants all of these polarizing opinions. Every reader brings their own experiences to the table, and I want to see everyone reaching their own conclusions about the characters. I love this. I relish in every ask, reply, or AO3 comment. I love your mini-essays and note taking. I love knowing what everyone thinks.

So, yeah. I just wanted to take a moment to reflect on that. Things are a little terrifying, but they have to be in order to be exciting as well.

4. Fable eating legends apple pie for the first time. I was listening to “Pomatter pie” from waitress while drawing that. It’s only one minute long but like. It’s so beautiful

5. Top ten pictures taken before disaster. (Doodle of wind and four taking a selfie while legend is running towards them to kill them. One day after they turned his hair pink)

6. …sketch. I’ve already colored it but it looks like shit so. I never posted it. Wind and four came to the cafe after a long day of school and met legend who just came back from the market where he bought the stuff to make an advent crown because wind and four really wanted to help make one.

My first 2D Zelda game!! Omg the start to my major love to the 2D Zelda games <3333 This was also the very first journal spread where I was journaling at the same time as I was playing the game! (this is apparent as I journaled around the page at random so end game things are somehow closer to the top lol)

Summary:

My first time player a smaller Zelda game and I absolutely loved it! There's nto many people who play smaller games but you can tell the people who play them, love them. A great story about Hyrule and Lorule and the downfall of both. But then, the rise of both. I did not anticipate any of the twists and thoroughly enjoyed the smaller quests. I can definitely see myself draw fanart in the future. Highly Recommend to everyone who has a 3DS!!

This is a robbery share the coffee shop au 👀👀👀!!

Well, @trippygalaxy offered a few names for it, and I really like “the Chains Cafe” so I’ll think I’ll just call it that.

So, basically all the Lu Bois (minus four and wind) work at a cafe in a modern Hyrule and they just have a good time together.

So. I thought I could write a few fics and draw fanart, to practice and stuff. It’s gonna be mostly legend centric because I’m biased but I’ve already had some ideas for fics from fours + winds, Wilds and Hyrules perspective.

Fic ideas are

Legend beats Karen at her own game

Nice evening after closing

Hyrules first day at the cafe and is really nervous and messes up a lot but in the end he can successfully attend a costumer and everyone’s proud

Karaoke night because why not

Some Bois meet their crushes for the first time/spend some time with them

Wind and Four pull pranks

It’s not much yet, so I’d be happy if you shared your thoughts and ideas anon!

And here are some I haven’t mentioned yet

Sky lives (with sun?) in an apartment above the cafe, doesn’t really wake up before 10 am so he takes the afternoon/evening shifts

Time and Malon are usually the ones to open it and they pick up legend in the morning to prepare everything

Legend lives with Ravio in an apartment not that far away, sometimes he walks but as mentioned usually gets picked up. Also no legend/Ravio shipping here

Fable often comes to the cafe to study, or do homework. And also other reasons*

Most of the Zelda’s are rich. They just come from a famous or wealthy families. Some of them are related

Isn’t new but: wind and four come to the cafe after school to do their homework and chill with their brothers friends. Also pull pranks

Lullaby also sometimes visits Malon. They are good friends.

Suns father is the headmaster of the school which four,wind,dot,tetra,Hyrule,wild,Flora, aurora and Dawn visit

Uhm. Yeah that’s about it. :)

Phantom Hourglass is the one I actively avoid replaying because I just can't deal with the controls (how hypocritical of a skyward sword fan), but I love the story so I don't wanna count it as my least favorite

My favorite headcanon is probably the soundtrack being Link's thoughts!

It's either melodies that just come to his mind as he goes, or folk music he knows! Village themes would be folk songs in my hc for example :]

Hylians say "blessings" to someone who sneezed! It comes from different things depending on what time period we're in. Sometimes it references a fairy spring or a great fairy herself, sometimes it references Hylia. It's to wish someone a speedy recovery basically!

Skyloftians say something that roughly translates to just "feathers". It's more of a joke than anything because until after the events of the game skyloftians didn't get sick! Skyloft was protected by Hylia's blessing before, to make sure the hero actually makes it far enough.

I have a bunch of headcanons focusing just on hylian language and culture, I love that sort of world building stuff hhnnngggghhh

I have an idea for a links meet au but I can't draw so here is a quick summary of them.

Wild - is very serious most of the time, responsible, quiet, funny and social once you get to know him. Games: BotW + BotW 2

Calamity - very cold and closed off, a leader, quiet calm and experienced. Games: Hyrule warriors: Age of Calamity

Twilight - friendly village farm boy, loves townfolk especially children, animal person. Games: Twilight Princess

Warriors - loud, ADHD ™, he seems like a selfish asshole but he does actually care. Games: Hyrule warriors

Time - old but no one not even him knows what Age he is, a child at heart, does a lot of childish things but is also mature at times. Games: Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask

Minish/Four - very personality disorder of him, moody, no one knows why he's moody, sometimes he's a bitch. Games: Minish hat, Four Sword, Four Sword Adventures

Legend/Past - the most experienced, "don't touch my shit", very closed off and straight forward at first, but once you get to know him he's a sweetheart, loves kids. Games: A link to the past, Link's awakening, oracle of ages/seasons, a link between worlds (idk the kne with ravio)

Hyrule - ✨✨fairy boy✨✨, lives in a cave, oblivous to social cues, autism, very sweet good boy, scary af if you pass him off tho. Games: legend of zelda, links adventure

Wind - pirate, very extra all the time, a stupid stupid child, he's very strong for a child tho but he looks like be has noodle arms, pirate that's his whole personality. Games: wind water, phantom hourglass.

Spirit - TRAINS, very smart engineer, good with all kinds of machines, otherwise quiet and reserved, unless machines are involved. Games: Spirt tracks

Sky - So polite, loves animals, very open and emotional about his feelings, hates bullies, bird boi ™. Games: skyward sword

Do you have any fics where the boys all meet for the first time? Ive seen a ton of fics where the chain has already met but they try to convince Wild to join, but I havent seen much in the way of the rest of the chain meeting for the first time, or even just any other link besides Wild being the last to join. Do you have any recommendations?

Do you have any fics focusing on Wind being raised as a Pirate clashing with the rest of the gang?

Not in the “Oh he’s so young but is a hero! Impossible!” way. More like “I was taught to react this way to situations and it confuses the others”

There's only one where this specific theme applies, at least that I can think of.

Basically Wind had really bad permanent bruising on his arms from tying rope around them to keep him on his boat because, you know, if you're sailing alone, and are thrown overboard, you're basically dead? I can't find it though. Anybody who knows, feel free to put it in the tags!

My sibling is trying to find a fic, and I've been unsuccessful in finding it so here we go:

It was on AO3. Pretty sure it was Sidlink, but it could be gen. Either one shot or part of a collection of one shots.

In it, Sidon noticed that Link picked all the bones out of the fish he was eating, and thought he was being extremely pick, because only baby Zora really have a problem with eating fish bones. He asked Link and he as like "I can not physically eat this, I will die." and then Sidon felt embarrassed about assuming. It was cute and fluffy.

I'm still planning to make this into a little mini comic cause I want to draw these two, but I had this typed up on my phone and wanted to share it.

So here's the reunion between Ravio and Marin in Hyrule Warriors. I'm sorry ahead of time for any grammar errors or spelling mistakes, this was typed on my phone and I'm too tired to proof read it again.

It'd been about a year since he'd met Link and helped save both Hyrule and Lorule but here he was, once again sitting in the light world, trying to remain covered from the painful rays of a sun that were too bright. It was strange to meet another Link, one who was possibly a decendant of the one he called a friend and more who were possibly related.

Personally thinking about the whole time jumping and portal craziness that seemed to be happening gave him a headache so Ravio opted to ignore it in favor of applying some of the balm that Hilda had prepared should he ever find himself in the light world again(Though he had doubted that outcome).

He also listened in on some of the conversations around the camp knights that he had been tasked to lead(which was another thing he was struggling to wrap his head around). Majority of it related to news traveling between the different camps that had spread throughout this Hyrule, some of it was related to him and someone else in another Camp who had a similar appearance, calling herself Midna(he wondered if it was the same from his peoples history or one who shared the same name, he'd have to try and meet them), and finally there was news of new recruits and more people brought out of their own times to help push back their adversary.

These final rumors piqued his interest as there was news of 2-3 other heroes, though one they weren't quite sure of.

As Ravio finished applying the balm that would hopefully protect him a bit more from the sun his ear twitched as a conversation between two troops sitting in front of his simple shelter started on a new topic.

"Surprised to see someone like that on the front lines like this." one of the knights said, taking a moment to inspect the work they'd done removing some of the scuffs from their armor.

"No kidding a sweet girl like that? what are the generals thinking?!" Their companion responded, stirring the coals in the fire pit to bring it back up as they placed some water to boil over it.

"She's got some interesting stories though, and her singing is great too." Responded the first, rubbing at a difficult spot on their armor with their sleeve.

Ravio sat up a little straighter at that, interest rising as he tried to quell his rising hope. He'd made his peace(lies) and accepted that he wouldn't see her again(more lies). It was either all a dream, as he'd convinced himself, or he'd destroyed an entire island and killed the inhabitants when he woke that stupid "Wind Fish", something he didn't want to believe, but there was no possible way it was her.

"Do you remember what the name of that song was though? I can't remember what she said."

Ravio was standing now, still under the shelter, when the reply froze him in place.

"Kinda, it was something something 'Wind Fish' whatever--"

The conversation no longer mattered as Ravio raced from his shelter, ignoring the sun's light as it still burned despite the balm. His ears stood at attention, listening for the familiar song he'd only heard in his dreams since he'd lost her.

Then he heard it still far enough where it was only a whisper, but the notes were familiar, and the voice was one that had almost haunted him.

He turned, losing his footing in the loose soil and landing on his side, long protective clothing hindering his movement as he scrambled to get back to his feet. He ignored the looks he got as he raced forward, nearly tripping again as he came to a crowd that blocked him from the source of the singing that was most likely at its center.

Ignoring the exclamations or swears he received, he pushed his way forward and then froze.

Long red hair blazing as it reflected the sun's light, tan shoulders covered in a million freckles like stars, she had a few new scars that he was able to see and a bandage on her upper left arm. She'd also replaced her loose skirt for some trousers that were still adorned by the pink sash that she'd received from her late mother.

When he first arrived in the clearing her back was to him, though as she sang she still moved freely, feeling the song and the music through her whole body as she always had and then she was facing him, her eyes still closed as she let herself be truly enveloped in her song.

Ravio stood transfixed in her music easy enough to imagine that they were once agin on Koholint. It took a moment to realize that the singing had stopped, and when he focused again, he realized her eyes were open, and she had been staring at him frozen.

Slowly, she took a step towards him, the knights around them forgotten as she closed the distance, hand outstretched and reaching for him though stopping just before truly coming into contact with him.

Without much thought he brought his hand out and closed the distance, a shock going through him as their hands made contact and then she leapt and he caught her, tears blinding both of them as the sound of shuffling feet around them was ignored.

"I thought I'd never see you again!" she was crying into his side. "I woke up, and you were gone, and then a week later, somebody new arrived, and then more and we weren't trapped anymore, but you weren't there."

He hugged her tighter as he gently lowered them both to the ground, he understood completely how she felt, and didn't want to add his own pain to the reunion, happy to just know that she was okay.

Then she shifted and the burn that he'd been able to ignore in light of their reunion reminded him of its presence, and he winced, an action that she noticed immediately.

"Bun? What's wrong?" The familiar nickname fell easily from her lips as she looked up at him, wiping her tears with the back of her hand, and she took him in.

"Nothing serious, the sun, it doesn't quite agree with me." He explained, trying to lighten the mood and joke, taking in every detail of her that he could, afraid she'd disappear again.

She stood and extended a hand out to him, "Then let's get you under some cover, you silly man." She smiled when he took her had, and it was brighter than he ever remembered it. She continued smiling as they walked towards his little shelter, telling him everything that had happened since she last saw him, her smile never dropping.

When she would turn to him, her smile would brighten a little, and he felt that the burn from the light of this world was but a minor pain when faced with the healing balm of her smile.

I know I asked if I could just send in the prompts, but my suddenly burst of creativity for drawing shifted to writing and so you have Dragon au! Content that started off as normal content. It was supposed to be all Wild legend and warriors with the 2nd prompt but I got impatient and wanted to send it now.

“jealous? who, me? impossible” *is actually seething with rage & jealousy*

At first I thought both prompts would both be warriors, but after thinking it over I think this particular one would also fit Wild and Legend.

We saw how Wild reacted when Four told him that seeing Twilight (his long-term/only friend, albeit a dif version of him) would do more harm then good, who's to say how'd he react to seeing someone try to take his s/o away from him in front of his very eyes (esp if we're doing guide/Isekai! Reader).

Reader, one of the only people who were there for him when he woke up with only his name, Reader, who cheered for him and helped pick up the pieces of himself when everything seemed overwhelming and hopeless, Reader, who now seems bored to tears at the clearly unwanted advance.

Adding this on because I forgot we're doing dragon au for these. Adding onto the thoughts above, not only is Wild slightly possessive of things/people that are close to him, dragons are as well, so it's a habit that kinda feeds into itself in that aspect. Wild's instincts were left unchecked for too long, or maybe said 'checking' was forgotten alongside everything else over 100 years ago, so he acts more on his heart than his brain. As if that wasn't enough, Wild doesn't have anything grand to his name, so he feels the need to impress them in some way in order to make Reader stay (which is exemplified if the two aren't even together yet). Maybe that's why that person was even able to get to Reader from under his nose.

Either way, Wild is nothing if not a hero, and their hero in a dusty blue champions tunic comes to save Reader from a mildly inconvenient tragic fate. The poor soul who flirted with reader sees the same guy that just took down a stone talus in 5 minutes come marching straight towards them and boy does he look angry. Wild doesn't even make it to the two before the sap just takes off, leaving a very smug reader.

He denies even being jealous because he, again, doesn't want Reader to feel smothered and leave; but also because now, upon seeing the amused look on their face, he feels like a child along with still having feelings of jealousy.

With Legend a majority of it is just Legend himself, he has a pretty decent grasp on his instincts (not including the hoard) and would rather die than let you see him like that. However, Legend is also pretty insecure in himself and how others see him. Legend doesn't have many people close to him, and he's not too keen on gaining them in fear of it being a repeat of his uncle and Marin, his nearly impenetrable shell is both his blessing and his downfall.

Legend, even after everything that's happened, wants to be loved, he wants someone to come home to and while Ravio was nice, he too had to leave. Then reader comes in, in all their...weird and overly-optimistic glory, then suddenly Legend isn't alone anymore. While Legend wasted almost no time in claiming you much to the others' amusement and offense

("you mean to tell me that I had to spend weeks to get you to at the very least tolerate me. Only for them to show up and get a claim instantly?!" "I guess you aren't as great as you think you are" "...>:(")

He's still unsure that reader will even stay. He's aware that he's not the biggest dragon, or even the nicest. The only thing that he's got going is his massive pile of stuff in his eyes. He has powerful weapons, rupees, bracelets and glimmering jewels that'll make even the captain's head turn. But that works for dragons. Reader isn't a dragon. And while Reader was clearly honored that he trusted them enough to see it, their interest was only curiosity towards the stuff, not in relation to him. They don't see his hoard--no matter how massive and shiny--as a worthy reason to date him. And while he's glad they aren't superficial, he's cursing at the thought of being emotionally vulnerable enough to tell them.

'That's okay!' Legend tells himself. Even if his stuff didn't work, Legend knows he's doing something right because even after everything: they choose to stay by his side. Even when presented with 6 other heroes that Legend seems worthy, at the end of the day, Legend can look over his shoulder and know that Reader is right there next to him.

His confidence stirs however, when he sees you getting talked to like you're some floozy. Legend, for all his insecurities and bitterness, is also protective of the people close to him but especially of reader, who has never stepped foot into Hyrule before. Legend also doesn't take too kindly to random people with too much audacity barging in and trying to take what's his. So yeah, Legend tells off that rando, and he would do it again in a heartbeat.

He won't, however, admit to ever being jealous. Nope, not in the slightest, Reader just looked like they needed help, and Legend was the closest one around (why was that? He doesn't answer, and starts towards the inn, not giving you a chance to continue on). Still though, in order to seemingly reassure himself, Legend turns his head around, and Reader is right there looking back at him, even if they are laughing at him being jealous.

I love reading these but also I have 0 idea what this is referring to. But hey! more dragon au content!!!

Is absolute besties with Hilda and Styla, despite one being from another country and the other being from an alternate dimension, it doesn’t stop him

Can’t read, and therefore can’t read a map [hence getting lost at any given point] because he was never taught how

Wouldn’t often go into large towns in his Hyrule, and is often overwhelmed and scared of large crowds, so when they go to another or go to a town in their current one, will cling to Legend’s arm like a baby koala

I’m pretty sure it’s LoZ canon that he would be blood-relatives with Legend so I’m gonna make him and Legend have similar mannerisms and faces [Hyrule has a more rounded/babyish face and button nose, while Legend has sharper eyes and flat yet tall nose]
