astarion stans who refuse to try befriending or even romancing anyone else are the most annoying mfs. "I only romance astarion I just can't relate to the other stories" really? you can't relate to gales deep self loathing? his deep love and loyalty for those he cares about? you can't relate to wylls kind heart and desire to always do good, even if it means he's miserable? can't relate to shadowheart blindly following a god, only to learn the truth and reinvent herself? you can't relate to lae'zel or karlach who were lied to and used as weapons their whole lives, but continue to push on even when they're scared? you can't relate to the overarching theme of authority vs autonomy???
it's not difficult, it's just people refusing to appreciate and explore the game to its fullest bc their manipulative sexy vampire is all they need(something astarion actually loathes being seen as btw). but ok, you can be boring and do whatever you want, but don't lie and say the other stories are bad, because they're not. it's simply a lack of media literacy and critical thinking. because to you, if a character doesn't tell you point blank that they're aware of their situation, it's bad writing. missing the entire point that victims don't always realize the situation they're in. keep in mind astarion and karlach are the only ones who got away from their abusers, which is why they tell you clearly and confidently about what happened to them, fully aware that it was abuse. whereas the others give only their tunnel visioned perspective and speak highly of their deity(not caring about themselves, wish to appease them for something in return).
don't get me wrong (seriously, if I see one person misunderstand me I'm going to lose it) astarion is a good character, but people who only like him need to stop acting like he's the only complex and well written one. stop crying when people with brains call you out for being weird about his ascended ending. the game isn't about him. at least try and show some respect to those who worked hard on the game. make an oc and try new things, i promise the fictional vampire won't care if you don't romance him one run. have a drink with shadowheart, dance with wyll, go to a restaurant w karlach, maybe then you'll calm down.

Hello, I actually have a request this time~ Could we get something with Barok's s/o just being so absolutely fed up with everyone hating/fearing Barok? Like either they confront someone they overhear talking badly about him or just complain to him that they hate how everyone treats him? (This totally isn't inspired by me having been buried in edits of the new official Cafe Art that replace Barok with other characters and fawn over how much /better/ the edit is etc.) ...I'm just so tired all I want is to love him in peace 😞
EXCUSE You??
Notes: Hello there, friend, you can indeed! I'm all for people having their own opinions and I'm totally fine with people not being fond of Barok, but let those of us that like him as a character have our safe spaces to enjoy the leggiest of leggy boys!
S/O is gender neutral (they/them pronouns). Barok refers to them using petnames.
Content Warnings: anti-anti-Barok sentiment; if you don't like Barok this isn't the blog for you tbh; this blog stans a leggy boi; while also accepting that parts of his character are unacceptable by today's standards; but that doesn't invalidate his entire existence; people are complex creatures; Barok is a fascinating character; I won't apologise for that.
Another day, another tedious event hosted by some aristocrat keen to cement their position in London's socialite scene. Of course, Barok had been strong-armed into going by the Lord Chief Justice. To make it somewhat easier, he'd brought his beloved along so that he would have at least one good thing in his midst.
"I'll get us some more wine," they said as he finished his drink.
"Thank you..." he handed over the glass and watched them go in the direction of the bar. Out of the corner of his eye he noted two of the most vacuous and opinionated among the London's social scene. Lady Asquith and Lord Shelby –– they were the sort of people who took opposing opinions as a declaration of war, seemed to think themselves experts on whatever social matters took their fancy and had the most curious ability to ignore any and all evidence that contradicted their worldview.
A most vexatious pair.
He hoped they wouldn't say anything to his love or within their earshot; just the other day they'd been frustrated about the way people spoke of him and had said, "The next person who dares to say a single bad thing about you within my earshot is going to get a big piece of my mind!"
"Oh look, My Lord," Lady Asquith said with a smirk as she hid her mouth behind her fan, "That ghastly cadaver, Lord van Zieks, yet lives!"
"So he does, my dear," Lord Shelby chuckled, "What a disgrace of a man... he is an embarrassment to the nobility, carrying on in court like some sort of flapper girl. It's truly outrageous!"
"Quite so! Quite so!" the lady agreed, "I just cannot abide him! He's so thoroughly dislikable, such a dour and churlish man! It's a wonder he was invited, this is supposed to be a party not a funeral reception."
Lord Shelby laughed.
"ENOUGH!" roared a voice beside them, causing Lady Asquith to shriek and Lord Shelby to drop his glass of whiskey. The whole room fell silent.
Barok frowned; he knew that voice.
"You two are some of the most poisonous, ill-mannered, detestable people I think I've ever had the displeasure of seeing or hearing! How dare you speak so venomously about a man you don't know! You make baseless assumptions and snide remarks about a man who possesses more integrity in his little toe than your entire beings! He is not perfect, but then none of us are! You two are certainly ill-suited to being judges of characters when yours are both so contemptuous!"
"Dearest," Barok came to a stop behind them and took their hand, "That's enough, I care not what such second-rate nobles think of me."
"I care, Barok!" they said, furiously, "People are so derisive about you, yet they know nothing of you or your struggles or your life! They assume and they cast stones because they're too cowardly to look inward. They'd rather point and sneer than do anything worthwhile! Well I'm fed up of it! You deserve better than their poison!"
"Come now," he smiled at them fondly, "You've made your point in a most passionate and elegant manner, I think it's high time we left this place and found a nicer setting to spend time together, hm?"
"...." they nodded, and allowed him to lead them out while the aristocracy looked on in muted shock.
"... Thank you," he said, once they were out in the cool evening air, "Your strength of feeling means the world to me, even if you are quite the firebrand. I shall have to bear that in mind and try to avoid being in your bad graces."
They huffed and kissed his chin, "... I love you, Barok."
"And I love you, my dearest one."

HI! I am June, and I love movies! I've been working on something, and I don't usually post my work because I don't get a lot of views, but I feel what I've written here is really important, and I would very much appreciate a read, and maybe an upvote if you enjoy what you've read! I've really put my heart out on the line here, and it would be great for it to get some traction, so a movie I care about greatly can finally get some recognition.
So, Home is now back on Netflix. As a result, the passion I've always felt for this film has been rekindled, and now feels like the perfect time to bring it back to attention, to get it the praise it truly deserves. To explain, I was watching it last week and I suddenly had an epiphany. I suddenly connected more with Oh's character than I ever had before, and every little detail in the movie started to pop out at me and further strengthen this feeling. I became so obsessed with the depth of it's heavy emotional scenes and gorgeous visuals that I immediately got to writing. It gets a bit tricky to collect my thoughts every time I try to address what this writing actually is; it's not necessarily an analysis, not necessarily an essay, because it lacks direction and a real conclusion, or motive, I guess. I'm simply going in depth into the scenes that I think are most pivotal to Oh's development as a character, and providing my own personal insight into how he's thinking and what he's feeling, based on the evidence I am able to glean from what the movie shows me, rather than tells me. I'm picking into each scene and bringing to light the specific details that make it so powerful to me, and how these details allow me to fully understand and connect with the characters in a way I can't with other films.
But regardless of what it is, the more in depth I go, the more it speaks to me, and the more I understand it. The more reason I have to believe that Oh has a perfect character arc, which is so well written and perfectly pulled off, that it creates a movie that is authentic, heartfelt, and complete in every way. There's simply no other like it. Now, with no further ado, let's get into it.
Every good story starts with an introduction to the main character. The beginning scenes of Home introduce us to Oh's character perfectly. They depict him as an adorable misfit with a propensity to make mistakes, who just wants to make friends. We learn that he is widely disliked by the rest of the Boov because of his differences, that he adores Captain Smek, and that he believes Boov are best at everything. We learn a lot about his personality too. All the Boov look similar, but he is much more animated than the other Boov, moving with more energy, and appears to be in a perpetual state of excitement. He’s the only Boov we see smiling at first, and what really sets him out is the way he emotes. While most of the Boov carry neutral expressions, their eyebrows relaxed, his eyebrows are constantly raised and his eyes are wide, making them stand out much more prominently. His color changing also adds an extra layer to his character, allowing us to see even deeper into what he's feeling at any given point during the movie. The movie can tell us more, with less words. It is immediately apparent to the audience just how different Oh is from the rest of his people; we can clearly see from the get-go that Oh's emotions work differently than the rest of the Boov. And this only adds to the impact of later scenes, as he starts to experience more complex emotions and venture further into unknown territory.
When the starting conflict of the story is introduced, we learn about the first real challenge he needs to overcome. He made a mistake, and is now on the run from his own people, who want to arrest him. Right now, his motivation is simply to avoid capture. It can be assumed that until now, Oh hasn't faced danger alone. He's likely faced danger while the Boov were running away from the Gorg, but he was always facing the threat with the rest of his species. This is the first time he's been completely alone while running from something, and it's all his fault too. We can pick all of this up from context, and feel sympathy for him and his terror, which is very much justified.
When Oh and Tip first meet, they start out not liking each other, and have conflicting opinions. Oh believes the Boov are more advanced than humans because Smek said so, and he doesn't understand why Tip cares so much about one human. Conversely, Tip hates Oh because his species is the reason she's separated from her mother. They are agreeing to work together out of common interest, that's it. Oh has promised to help Tip find her mom, but he does this only to avoid capture. These scenes are full of fun quips and hilarious antics, as the movie starts to build up a foundation for Oh's character dynamic with Tip. What the movie conveys to us is that these two characters don't know each other, and don't have any interest in listening to and understanding each other.
Things really pick up later in the movie. Oh disappears for a long while, and when he returns, Tip yells at him, and he stops in his tracks, looking genuinely astounded and confused by her anger. He was especially shocked that she was afraid he'd been hurt. We can actually see the moment he does a double-take at the realization that she had been worried about him. Likely, no one has ever worried about him before. For the first time, we see him actually absorb what she's saying, listening to her with a curious expression as she tells him to try and put himself in her shoes. Tip explains to him that kids aren't supposed to be by themselves, and that the Boov's arrival ruined everything for her. When Oh says that Boov don't have families, she remarks that it's no wonder they take things and don't care about anyone else. This gives him pause, and he appears to think carefully, before speaking. No amount of explanation can really do this scene justice, so a direct quote of his monologue is needed. He says: "So, your mimom.. is a very important humansperson to you. More important than others. To not belong with her.. causes you being sad. But, recent moments ago, you are kicking on me and yelling. Which is seeming more to be mad than sad." This gives us the first true indication that Oh is trying to be more open minded. Tip tells him to try and feel how she feels, and he does. With genuine sincerity, he's trying to understand how Tip can be feeling two emotions at once. Tip looks surprised by his sincerity, and has no energy to continue talking, but she listens, and she gets back into the car when he's finished. Not only does Oh state out loud that humans are more complicated than he thought, this scene is important because it's the first time they have anything close to a genuine moment of understanding. Simply put; he sees her react in a way he didn't anticipate, is perplexed by it, and pushes aside his own belief that he already knows everything about humans, and just asks her questions to understand her better. It is the first small sign of growth we get to see from him.
Tip and Oh gradually warm up to each other more over the course of their next few escapades. Oh explains to Tip why he's in trouble, and Tip realizes he's sad, and cheers him up by teaching him about jokes. They make a plan to give Oh a makeover so they can sneak into the Great Antenna without being caught, and Tip seems amused by his antics rather than annoyed. In the Antenna, Oh helps Tip find out where her mom is, and Tip hugs him. He looks surprised and uncertain for a moment, but quickly adjusts to it and even smiles, turning orange and hugging her back. From the information we have, we can extrapolate that this may or may not be the first time he's ever been hugged, due to the Boov's aversion to both Oh and physical contact. This is the most affection Tip has expressed with him so far, and he seems to just melt into it. He also looks as if he wasn't ready for the hug to end so abruptly. It's a sensation he's unfamiliar with, but immediately decides he wants.
This is when we see Oh, specifically, starting to trust Tip a bit more and even maybe like her, and their escape from the Tower shows them working with a newfound chemistry as they outsmart the Boov. We can tell Oh is scared at several points during the scene, because his yellow coloring indicates it, but he's also grabbing onto Tip as if it gives him reassurance. He trusts her enough to at least find comfort in her presence, which is something that wasn't true of their relationship in the beginning.
Following the events of the Eiffel Tower scene, Tip starts to talk about her mom, excited to find her and maybe even come back to Paris. When she turns around, Oh is standing further away and looking at the now wrecked central command, his skin displaying a dejected blue color. What does he have to come back to after everything is over? Tip knows where she belongs, but Oh would never be able to go back to the Boov in safety after his mistake. He is questioning his belonging. Tip notices he's sad, and attempts to cheer him up. It doesn't work, but Oh does something that surprises Tip. He apologizes to her. During the confrontation with Smek, Oh finally realized how Smek was wrong for causing the misunderstandings between Boov and Humans, and that he would never accept any Boov for showing individuality. Oh acknowledges everything that he previously thought about humans was wrong, and that Captain Smek was also wrong. He even looks ashamed to tell her that in the beginning, the Boov thought humans were simple and uncomplicated, and that they needed the Boov. He tells her he thinks the Boov should never have interfered with Earth, and that he's sorry for how it affected her. He doesn't say anything during his apology that would guilt Tip into responding a certain way; just gives an honest apology, and allows her the freedom to decide how she reacts. This is something that's incredibly meaningful coming from Oh. He's not trying to get anything from her, he's just apologizing for something he was complacent in and is now feeling regretful about. It's raw and heartfelt. She hands him the keys, and he looks surprised at first, then gives a huge smile, holding the keys close to his heart and turning orange.
The following scene is perhaps the most important one in the film, and is incredibly impactful. Accompanied by the gentle tune of a song that slowly gets louder as the movie switches from dialogue between characters to simply visual storytelling, we watch as Oh and Tip take turns driving, and exchange vulnerability with each other, both describing their own experiences with being misfits. We see them laughing together, taking selfies, and just in general enjoying each other's company. Tip completely accepts Oh for who he is, and in turn he lets his walls down, and is finally able to be himself. This is a real bond they've formed. They are truly friends. Both look nothing alike, yet have so much in common.
Finally, we see Oh taking his turn driving at night while Tip sleeps, and he goes to tuck her back in when her blanket falls down. As we hear Kiezca's 'Cannonball' playing in the background (and on the radio) he takes a moment to appreciate the things in the car, discovering he does indeed enjoy them. Finally, he adjusts his mirror to watch Tip sleep, and we see him slowly turn a brand new color: pink. If you were to recap his life so far, the significance of this moment becomes clear. Oh is outgoing and friendly, but he's never fit in in his entire life. No matter how hard he tried to fit in with the Boov, he simply had emotional needs that the rest of the Boov did not, and as such they did not care about or recognize his need. Tip is the first person who has ever listened to him and gotten to know him, and accepted him for who he is. She's his first friend. In this moment, he is looking at Tip, and he's feeling something he's never felt before: love. It feels like a part of him he's always been missing has finally been found. For the first time in his life, he feels like he belongs.
We find Oh further appreciating Tip's qualities when they find the Gorg super-chip; he was afraid to go towards the ship but she convinced him, and when it worked out he realized that her idea had worked out better than his would have. He realized he can achieve things through being brave rather than giving up; essentially, if you don't even try, you can never succeed. You can see in his expression after Tip smirks at him that he was surprised; he realized he had faced his fears, all because of Tip's help.
We see a monumental backslide in his progress when he leaves Tip instead of staying by her side and fulfilling his promise. His greatest challenge is revealed to be that he's still not brave; not brave enough to put his faith in the one he cares about, not brave enough to face his fears and stick by her no matter what. We do know that he's terrified; both of being left alone, and of losing Tip. He has just found a sense of belonging with Tip that he's never felt before, and he can't bear to lose that. He tries to bring her with him, and she feels betrayed and breaks off the friendship. The detail that went into this scene makes it incredibly impactful. It's raw and filled with emotion. For context, during the course of the movie, we only see a Boov go pale in the face during a few very intense situations, and said pale-ing was usually followed by fainting. This suggests that a lack of color is indicative of a much stronger, primal emotion: dread, or pain. When Tip turns and leaves, he loses pigment. He blanches, and staggers. There's a physical impact of Tip's words on Oh. This isn't simply sadness or fear he's feeling, it's anguish. It's his world falling apart, his heart breaking. He is quite literally torn in two, as he looks back and forth between his best friend and his chance at escape, changing rapidly from red to yellow to blue and back again. It emphasizes his turmoil; the panic he feels at seeing a rapidly closing window to decide what action to take, before he turns back to what he's always known, running away. There's high stakes on both sides, and we as an audience can feel his pain, as he displays clear indecision and helplessness at this impossible choice.
As the Boov travel farther from Earth, bringing the Gorg with them, Oh and Tip have never been farther apart. As the Gorg mothership closes in, everyone runs to the other side of the ship; all except Oh, who stares it down. He knows he can save everyone. He pulls out the super-chip, his gaze hardening with determination, and runs against the flow of the crowd to plant it in the control panel. Everyone stops to stare in disbelief, crowding around him afterwards, curious to hear him speak. Smek tries to ostracize him for acting unBoov-like, and Oh directly challenges him. He tells the listening crowd that he used to believe what Smek said was right, but he'd learned things that said otherwise. He talks about the human he met, and how she's smart and brave, and has an emotional capacity for caring for others that Boov lack. During this monologue, we see his skin turn pink again as he talks about Tip, reminding us as that he does still care about her. This also reminds him of his own actions, and he turns blue, concluding his speech by saying that the Boov may be better in some ways, but not in the ways he thinks are most important now. He realizes that Tip has strengths that are/would have been useful many times for the Boov. This is when it becomes apparent that he's regretting leaving; Tip made him stronger, and he now knows he can be as brave as she is.
Which is why it's an incredible payoff scene when he is made leader. He's surrounded by Boov who are cheering for him, but he feels lonelier than ever. He wanted to be accepted, but he wasn't ready to be looked up to. It doesn't feel right, he doesn't belong here. When he watches the view of Earth grow smaller as it fades into the distance, he actually cries, and catches a tear as it rolls down his cheek, a pensive look crossing his face. He pulls out Tip's keychain, and all in one instant he realizes why he's so miserable. He doesn't feel like he belongs here, because he belongs with Tip. It's where he's meant to be. He turns pink, looking hopeful, and in the next scene he turns up on earth, by himself, and finds Tip. It's not really necessary to explain why this is an important development; we can see everything there is to be said in the way they compose the scene. There's also the parallel shots where we see Tip and Oh both pushing through crowds and both looking completely alone despite all the people around them, emphasizing that they need each other. Oh just had to figure out he could follow Tip's example, what he'd learned from her bravery, to realize he could still salvage things. He realized a life feeling alone among the Boov was worth nothing, and a life with someone he truly cares about is worth facing any danger, no matter what may come.
Oh and Tip are reunited, and he tells her what he learned, that he realized she's his friend, and he belongs with her. You can see from the look they share that both of them feel this way. They've come full circle, to a full understanding and acceptance of each other.
Oh helps Tip find her mom, finally fulfilling his promise, and when the Gorg attack and he realizes it's because of the Boov, he tells Tip he's fixing his mistake, protecting the reunited family by making it so they're unable to chase him and be put in danger. He loves Tip, and he wants her and the human she cares most about to be safe. He's not about to let her risk losing that. So, bravely, yet stupidly, he runs to the Gorg mothership and holds up the thing they've been chasing the Boov for all this time. He tries to do it on his own, which is a major sign of his growth as a character, but the only reason the Gorg actually see him is because Tip has his back. He was fully prepared to sacrifice himself. When the ship is closing in on him, and the dust and sparks are blinding him, he turns around, and sees Tip running to him. He smiles, his trust fully in her; if he doesn't get out of this, she can save everyone else. He throws the rock to her before the ship covers him, choosing to put his faith in her in what he believes to be his final moments. He went from caring only about his own survival, to caring about the survival of his best friend, and wanting Tip to help make peace with the Gorg so the Boov and humans can be safe as well.
After we see Tip mourn for Oh before it's revealed that he's okay, she pulls him in for a hug, and he immediately embraces her back, then over Tip's shoulder we see him looking at her fondly, smiling, and he turns a vibrant pink as he closes his eyes and leans into the hug. Just by the look in his eyes in this scene, we can see that he's fully appreciating this being who cared about him enough to listen to him, to stand by him and stand up for him, and run after him when he's in danger. In this moment, he's getting a second chance to embrace her, when he went in not knowing if he'd ever see her again. In this moment it was all worth it. Because he looks at her, and he is home.

Coloring and Close Bonds- Agere!AU (part 42)
A/N: Hi! This is a shorter no-little-side chapter to help advance the plot. It is like, necessary to the overarching plot so...but it is cute! Platonic Virgil and Emile Rights. Anyways, the next chapter will be a filler probably focusing around little!Emile and cg!Remy, so y'all can see how I write them.
--
Of course, Emile suggested that they should hang out outside of work so that they could possibly be friends again. And the core sides didn't want to say no, so here they were, watching Disney.
They had to choose the thing that could trigger any of their headspace. It's like they knew and were purposely making it worse for them. It was a million times harder to repress your headspace when you were used to regressing whenever.
Roman silently cuddled into Virgil's side, Virgil wrapping his arm around him. "Not to be rude or anything, but are you two dating?" Remy asked. Virgil nodded, as if this fact was the most obvious thing in the world.
"Have been for a while," Roman scoffed.
"Sorry, we haven't been around to know..." Emile let Remy wrap his arm around him.
"Oh my god, you two are dating!" Patton realized.
"Obviously," Remy turned his head, kissing Emile's cheek softly. "And I'm assuming you and the nerd are too?"
"That nerd is my boyfriend," Patton defended.
This whole interaction heavily shifted the vibe from tense to romantic. They avoided regressing by constantly talking to their partner and being cute. It was just a coincidence that most of the sides paired off when the Neutral Sides weren't speaking with them.
They'd soon find out that there was one other similarity between the three of their relationships, and it wasn't a romantic one.
--
Virgil was scrolling on his phone when he heard a knock at his door. He knew that Remy and Emile were there, but he assumed they were still having their meetings. But he was proven wrong when he swung open the door to see Emile.
"Hey?" he sounded confused, subtly attempting to block his view into the bedroom due to all the baby stuff practically lying around.
"Hey! Um, I was only needed for part of the meeting...my job is a shared one, after all. Mostly there to fix conflict but there wasn't any. I was wondering if I could hang out with you until it was over?"
"Uh, sure," Virgil shrugged. He didn't dislike Emile, at all. It was just awkward, because he knew there was a point where Emile disliked him, and some part of him brain told him that those feelings were still there, and that he was only being nice because he had too.
Like he could read his anxious thoughts, Emile started to reassure him. "Me and Remy owe you a huge apology. I'm sorry that we treated you so badly when you were a dark side...we should've known to just wait until you adjusted-"
"When I first came to live here, I pushed everyone away. Including you. I treated you badly, and you got away from that." Virgil interrupted him. "But you're right, once I adjusted, everything got better. Things changed and we changed, right?"
Emile smiled. "Yeah, exactly. Apology accepted?"
"Yeah, apology accepted." Virgil smiled back at him.
"Can I come in?" Emile asked, trying to look around him.
"We can't hang out in here!" Virgil denied quickly, stepping forward and shutting his door behind him. Emile seemed shocked, and a bit hurt that he wasn't allowed, but he nodded slowly.
"You deserve privacy. We can go to the living room and do something."
Virgil nodded, following him to the commons. They both took a seat, sitting in an awkward silence until Emile attempted to start a conversation. "So...what do you like doing, Virgil?" Emile asked. Virgil thought about how to phrase his response, trying to avoid mentioning his more childish hobbies.
"I go online a lot, and I watch movies and stuff. I don't know, I just spend a lot of time with the others..." he mumbled. "You?"
"Same, mostly. I'm the therapist in the village so that's what I've been busying myself with, keeping all of Thomas's characters and figments happy and healthy. I also just spend a lot of time with Remy." Emile shrugged.
"When did you and Remy start dating? Has that been like, a long term thing or is it new?"
"Long term, I guess. We've been together for a few months," Emile tried not to go into detail here. Remy was his caregiver, and he was his, and in order to avoid mentioning that, he'd have to stick to the romantic parts of their relationship. "What about you and Roman? How did that happen?"
"Things were complicated between everyone due to the dark sides getting involved with everything, so all of us were stressed. I started spending more time with Roman and then it just kinda...happened? Logan and Patton got together just before we did..." Virgil explained. Emile smiled.
"I'm glad you guys are so happy. It's nice knowing that you guys are closer then you were before. You guys also made friends with the Dark Sides, which is cool." Emile seemed kinda tense at that, biting his lip.
"Are you- are you scared of the dark sides?" Virgil questioned.
Emile shrugged. "They're kinda mean, or at least...they were."
"They're getting better about that. I won't let them treat you or Remy badly, just don't assume that they haven't changed."
Emile nodded quickly, the two falling into silence. How come this was so awkward? "Do you have crayons and coloring books?" Emile asked.
Coloring always helped him calm down. Remy would often sit him down and have him color after throwing a fit or getting frustrated while little. It seemed like an odd punishment, but he'd calm down after a few minutes and would be able to talk to Remy about whatever happened.
He thought that maybe, if he distracted himself with coloring, talking to Virgil might be easier.
"I mean- yeah, but why?" Virgil immediately seemed skeptical, not knowing what he was planning.
"I thought it'd give us something to do besides sit in silence when we run out of things to talk about..." Emile explained. Virgil didn't know how to object that, nodding a bit.
"Okay, I'll go find them." he agreed.
He came back a few minutes later with a stack of coloring books and a box of crayons. "You guys have a lot of coloring books," Emile chuckled, moving down from the couch to the floor as Virgil cleared the coffee table, spreading out the books and setting down the box of crayons.
"There's definitely more." Virgil assured, moving to sit next to Emile on the floor.
"Why do you have so many?" he claimed a Lilo and Stitch book, flipping through it. Virgil paused, not being able to come up with words.
"Is it an anxiety thing? Because coloring helps me too," Emile suggested, after a few moments of Virgil trying to come up with an excuse. Emile realized that his question might've been a little personal.
"Y-yeah, something like that." Virgil laughed it off, picking out a book.
As they colored and gossiped, they both somewhat repressed a headspace that felt so easy to slip into. Coloring really did help the awkwardness though.
If they ran out of things to say, Emile would compliment Virgil's crayon skills and that would fade into another train of conversation. When they fell into silence, it was because they were focused on drawing, and it didn't feel weird. They remained big by talking about anything and everything. Their boyfriends, their jobs, things that have happened.
They both had to avoid any stories that involved themselves or another side being little. Little did they know, they were both hiding the same thing. Eventually they'd figure everything out, but for now, they were stuck in a loop of keeping secrets uselessly.
--
It was frustrating hiding the little part of their lives, but they eventually got used to Remy and Emile being around. The Dark Sides even hung out with them. For the first time in a long time, it really felt like all the sides were united. There were some tensions, sure.
Like Janus being jealous of Roman, due to the prince replacing him in his only sacred spot of being Virgil's caregiver.
Like Remus trying to adjust to his regression without Remy and Emile finding out,
Like everyone trying to hide this 'secret' from each other.
But overall, they were getting along well. Thomas was doing much better managing his love life when the whole Romance Committee was there to help. Virgil attended meetings now, he deserved to have a say in that too. Everyone sort of apologized to each other about the sides previously being so divided.
It was almost like the labels of Core, Dark, and Neutral didn't matter anymore. They were just technicalities, not barriers. Everything seemed to flow better when they worked together. How did they manage separately for so long?
Besides the working aspect, it just generally felt like everyone was getting closer. Awkwardness faded as they laughed and joked.
Patton almost felt like his family was getting bigger. It was getting bigger.
And after just a few more issues are resolved, and a few secrets are shared, that statement will become more and more true.
Let's see how those loose ends are tied up before we get to the end of the story...

RATE THE EPISODE 246 Responses
Tumblr media
The response to this week’s episode remains overwhelmingly positive, with 97.6% of responses giving it a score of 3 or higher.
This is the first episode where I have absolutely no criticisms, so im quite happy with how it turned out.
Voice acting was top tier
perfect
Emotional
Great Job! I'm glad my favorite character's death was so emotionally misered.
Forget Attack on Titans, this episode was Attack on my Feelings ! 😭
I want to rate it a 1 because of Sasha but a 5 because of how well it was done... so 1.5
Absolutely loved it
Perfect
ASIDE FROM SASHA’S DEATH, WHICH MOMENT WAS THE MOST EMOTIONAL FOR YOU? 247 Responses
Tumblr media
Connie’s heartfelt admission to Jean seems to have stolen the hearts of the plurality of responders (36%). That is followed by a tie of 18.2% responses noting Eren’s breakdown or EMA’S tense reunion as the most emotional moment for them. In third place is Gabi’s tragic declaration about her struggles with 11.3%. Other responses were, in order, Jean lamenting all of the deaths occurring, Gabi and Falco realizing that Zeke betrayed them, Hange scolding Eren for forcing the SC to intervene in Marley and Levi and Eren’s confrontation.
Connie telling Sasha and Jean that they're special to him made my heart hurt knowing what was going to happen mere minutes after. I honestly saw me and my two best friends through them, and it was gut wrenching seeing Connie and Jean's reactions. Even Mikasa's reaction broke me, to be honest. They all lost a huge light in their lives.
WHICH MOMENT SURPRISED YOU THE MOST? 222 Responses
Tumblr media
So this question was meant to only go on the anime watchers poll and ended up here somehow. Thanks to the 222 who were good sports and responded anyway! :P The most shocking moments that took place in this chapter/episode was the revelation that Eren went rogue from the Survey Corps, that Zeke was collaborating with the Survey Corps, how the Survey Corps treated Eren, and that some Paradisians seemed to be turning to nationalism, in that order.
Not sure why we're being asked as manga readers which moment shocked us the most since we already knew everything that was going to happen this week
HOW MUCH DID SASHA’S DEATH HURT YOU? 249 Responses
Tumblr media
When it came to Sasha’s death, it would appear that it broke the hearts of the overwhelming majority of responders, with 81.1% giving it a rating of either 4 or 5 on the tragic scale.
Broke my heart and I'm still crying over it three days later. Honestly though, it was greatly done.
3 years later it hit me, Sasha is dead ;_;
Cried my whole soul and body. Rip sweet Sasha
I thought Sasha's death would've been more emotional.
WHOSE REACTION TO SASHA’S DEATH AFFECTED YOU THE MOST? 250 Responses
Tumblr media
Sasha’s death elicited various reactions from the main cast. Two different responses tied at 36.4% noting Connie and Mikasa’s reactions to Sasha's death as the one affecting them the most. This was followed by Eren’s at 13.2%. The rest were, in order, Armin, Jean, Levi and Hange.
I don’t cry at fiction much, but Sasha’s death got me more than I thought it would. I feel like seeing Armin and Mikasa’s reactions in particular is what got me.
The way they animated Armin and Mikasa bawling over Sasha's body and the inclusion of Call Your Name made it all the more emotional. I think by "Assassin's Bullet" they also meant a bullet through my heart because man did that hurt to watch. 😭🤧
WOULD YOU PISS YOUR PANTS IF LEVI WAS GLARING AT YOU WITH MURDEROUS INTENT? 248 Responses
Tumblr media
A bit of a joke question, but we wanted to know if Levi appeared as threatening as he seemed. 80.2% seems to think so, admitting their incentive to piss their pants. In contrast, 19.8% don’t think the Captain’s such a scary guy!
THE FULL VERSION OF “ASHES ON THE FIRE” BY KOHTA YAMAMOTO (THE PREVIEW SONG) IS NOW OUT. IF YOU’VE LISTENED TO IT, WHAT DO YOU THINK? 236 Responses
Tumblr media
“Ashes on the Fire” has been released to rave reviews, with 88.1% of responses giving it a 4 or a 5. Nobody gave it a 1, either. Yamamoto-san, thank you!
OVERALL, HOW WELL DO YOU THINK MAPPA ADAPTED THE MARLEY ARC? 251 Responses
Tumblr media
In spite of the relatively vocal complaints about the adaptation of certain elements of the Marley Arc, it would appear that the overwhelming majority of responders seemed pleased with it, with 51.4% giving it 5 and 37.1% giving it a 4. 1s not present.
I've been a bit bothered how Mappa follows the Manga like a slave, using the panels as scenes and not adding anything in between. Sure it works for Manga, but it feels weird to me to watch in Anime how Eren grabs Armins hand and they don't give a transition where Armin pulls him in, but just show him inside the airship next. Just little things, but bothers me a bit. Overall I'm really enjoying their choices.
The show looks BETTER
I was fine with the episode. The quality of animation dropped but I understand that every scene cannot be animated on highest level. MAPPA has done a great job with the Marley arc. They shown the character development and bonds between the warriors perfectly. We had some cuts here and there but overally was okay: 8/10 for me.
I’m so pleased that MAPPA has taken the anime. I’m still more of a fan of this particular series’ manga than anime though.
DID SASHA’S DEATH AFFECT YOU MORE WHEN YOU READ THE MANGA, OR SEEING IT ANIMATED WITH VOICES AND MUSIC? 249 Responses
Tumblr media
As noted above, Sasha’s death seemed to be a hard hitter for most. Comparison of the adaptation vs the original allows to discern which hit the readers/watchers the hardest. Just one percent shy of a majority (49%) thought that the anime made it much more tragic. 30.9% noted that the impact was roughly similar across both mediums. On the flip side, 10.4% thought that the initial depiction of it in the manga was the hardest hitter. There were also a couple of write-ins.
I dont remember I sped run reading the manga, kinda regretting it
I knew it for the first time in the manga, so it had a more powerful impact (I cried for a whole week. Not kidding) and the anime managed to make me cry as hard as in the manga. Though, I already was aware and grieved so it wasn't as bad
Got Spoiled :( so kinda meh, saw it coming
When the music kicked in after Connie announced she was gone, my heart broke into a million pieces.
Let's be honest, Sasha's role was over after she killed the titan in the village and saved Kaya. After that she was just there. She got zero development, zero important moments, zero depth. Her death effected many characters and helped them to develop. Sasha's death was sad but at least brought some important changes in others.
Not a Sasha fan so I was not really that affected but having a death in the series always feels sour
I think for me, they're both even.....mostly. There's just something about having been waiting for the chapter leaks on reddit with a bunch of other people and most of us collectively grieving at the same time. Once bigger pages of the chapter started coming out, it made me cry. I didn't even cry during serumbowl when I first read it and that had plenty for me to be even more upset about.
Honestly while reading manga I hated that Sasha’s last word was „meat”, it seemed so ridiculous. I’m happy MAPPA made it look more serious with music. Actually everyone’s reaction for Sasha’s death had more impact on me than the death itself
HOW DID YOU FEEL WHEN YOU SAW GABI KILL SASHA IN THE MANGA? AND HOW DO YOU FEEL SEEING IT AGAIN NOW, KNOWING HOW GABI’S ARC DEVELOPS? 247 Responses
Tumblr media
Gabi is perhaps the most controversial character introduced post-time skip. Whether you’re a proud member of the Gabi Gang, proud hater of the 12 year old or just a neural party, everyone can admit that. With Sasha’s death at her hands, many seemed to offer up their opinion on the kid, back then and now. A slight plurality, 31.2%, stated that they did not hate her back when 105 first released and they don’t hate her now. 23.1% note that although they were rather upset with her back down, they are not (upset/angry) any longer. On the flipside, 25.5% state that they still hate the kid, as they did back then. Finally, some were simply neutral. Classic.
Quite a few write-ins, as well.
I hated her in the manga but after watching the anime, I’m not happy about it but I understand why she did what she did and don’t hate her as much anymore.
I was extremely upset about it before and am still extremely upset about it now, but for different reasons. I hate her less but am not any less annoyed by her brainwashed hatred of the Paradisians, although I understand her much better and realize and empathize that she's just a kid who's been used by her country in the worst way.
Gabi Braun Must Die
Broke my heart and was upset, but understood where she was coming from (thought about her perspective only)
Sasha shoulda killed this cunt while she had the chance
It’s war, she did as she needed to.  Her arc is fantastic
love hate relationship
I didn't like her but not because of Sasha death (that's war consequence) and it's the same now
I really hated her with my whole heart and soul, but now that it has been all explained, that she had character development, I even like her now
I used to be angry about it but I understand why now, Gabi is just a victim of Marley’s control just like anyone else is, it’s a shame this is the results of it. She’s still at fault but I can’t hate her so much for it
I feel tired of Gabi hate. I disliked her in the manga back then but now I feel neutral towards her, because she has changed. Yet, I wish she took less screentime.
SORRY for ranting! I don't understand the hate on Gabe. Yes, I know she killed a Paradise character which was present in series since its beginning and I understand Sasha's fans are upset Sasha is not here anymore because of her. but those people do not analyse Gabe as they should be. Every character belongs to a different side and each side is blinded by what heir belives in. It is okay to not like Gabe but I don't tolerate hate on her. I THINK THIS QUESTION SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN INCLUDED AT ALL.
Initial hate, understanding after some thought
Understanding her situation I know I shouldn’t hate her, but I’m choosing to be petty and hate her anyway
I liked her much more than I like her now. She was a much better character back then, her killing Sasha (a one-note comedic relief) was cool and brought some spice to the story. Now she just exists to spout themes and convenient exposition and to be an aimbot
i dislike her, even if i understand her
I dont like Gabi. Never did. It isnt because she killed Sasha tho. I just dont care for Gabi tbh BUT i can totally understand her actions and do not blame her for it after seeing the destruction and killings
I was and still am upset about Sasha's death, but from the start I blamed it more on the circumstances than Gabi.
I loved her then, I love her now and it probably wouldn’t change even if she killed my favourite characters. She’s my cinnamon roll
Gabi did nothing wrong, killing a soldier in the battlefield is not a crime.
See, I WANT to like Gabi since she's obviously changed, but knowing she killed Sasha nonetheless will ALWAYS prevent me from having any love or respect for her. She will always be my most hated character
MAPPA ADDED AN EXTENDED SCENE OF FLOCH AND OTHER SURVEY CORPS RECRUITS BEATING GABI AND FALCO. HOW DID YOU FEEL ABOUT IT? 240 Responses
Tumblr media
MAPPA added an extra scene of Floch and Friends raining down copious amounts of gratuitous violence upon two 12 year olds (MAPPA is pro-child violence???????? Find out when 111 is adapted). 48.8% seemed to think that it was a decent addition, even if just for the SC’s characterization (or perhaps you enjoyed seeing that?). 22.5% thought it was a bit over the top to feature. Finally, 16.7% did not care.
I didn't like it. But, it was def a believable reaction from them.
I just wish it was enough to kill her
I liked the additional characterization of Floch & co.
Great addition, it was implied in the manga so the scene fitted well. Still, it was horrifying to see how vile the scouts were to two kids
How about an option where we're glad Gabi got beaten to a pulp but not when Falco was?
ORA ORA thing, but we viewers get hurt too.
Didn't feel bad about Gabi getting beat up, but I did feel bad seeing Falco get beat up. Poor boy didn't deserve that
A nice addition
I thought it was a great choice to highlight the continuing violence and feelings of vengeance from both sides even more. and I thought it contrasted really well with Jean's decision not to throw the kids out of the airship.
The people glorifying this scene annoy the shit out of me
It's a good way to hint the "Yaegerist" perspective to anime onlies
MUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDAMUDA
The Gold Experience memes are funny
It was an IC scene for people like Floch + I feel bad for the kids
The way they shot that scene made the recruits seem like mindless, gross-faced animals storming towards the kids to beat them up. I liked how they were dehumanised like that, considering that most faces amongst them belonged to the ones who support the rumbling.
It hurt to see that but good scene though
Feel empathy for Gaby. Violence don't solve problems
Now THAT'S what I call fan service! Who needs big-boobed, big-ass females or shirtless guys with and when you can just have the most hated character get the tar beaten out of them xD
I can see why they did it. MAPPA's not dumb and I'm sure they anticipated a massive onslaught on hate towards Gabi specifically, so it was their way of trying to satisfy the haters. Falco didn't deserve it tho.
It was a good addition
GREAT JOB MAPPA
I hate Gabi too but that was too much beating up a child, yet it also showed how shit Floch and the others are.
Apparently some people never noticed that Gabi and Falco got beat up, probably because it happened in the background. So it was good for MAPPA to call attention to it.
I love Gabi but she had that coming. No need to hurt Falco though. :(
OVERALL, HOW WELL DO YOU FEEL MAPPA EXECUTED THE REVEAL THAT ZEKE IS A TRAITOR TO MARLEY? 240 Responses
Tumblr media
The reveal that ZOOK has been working against Marley for years on end is one of the most important ones in the series, really. So it was important to have it be executed in a rather decent manner. The vast majority of the fandom thought that MAPPA did a fine job. 52.1% gave it a rating of 4, 27.5% gave it a 5 and 17.1% gave it a 3. The couple of the other respnders gave it a 2, with no 1s.
IN THE END, DO YOU THINK EREN’S ACTIONS IN MARLEY WERE ULTIMATELY JUSTIFIED? 242 Responses
Tumblr media
A question to remember… Were Eren’s actions in Marley ultimately “justified”? A plurality, 44.6% seems to think so. In contrast, 24% disagree. And 31.4% still aren’t sure to this day.
SIMILARLY, DO YOU THINK THE SURVEY CORPS WAS ULTIMATELY JUSTIFIED IN TREATING EREN AS THEY DID? 244 Responses
Tumblr media
When it comes to the SC treating Eren as they did, the division is much less pronounced however. The majority, 60.7%, think that the SC had quite the justification for treating Eren as they did. On the flip side, 19.7% think that there was such justification for behaving in such a manner towards Eren. Finally, the same amount of responses stated that still can’t be sure to this day.
NOW THAT WE’VE GOTTEN A CLEAR SHOT OF YELENA, DID MAPPA DO HER JUSTICE? 243 Responses
Tumblr media
YELENA is here. Queen 👑. Or well, maybe not. Who am I to say? In any case, her appearance was received well. 52.7% thought MAPPA did very well and 33.7% went on to declare their love for her. Just shy of 10% noted that MAPPA could have done a little better though.
Kinda wish her hair was like neon or something idk
Need more eps of her to decide, she didn't get much screentime and lines here.
I don't like Yelena, but yeah I guess they did good.
In the manga she was a creepy-looking person. MAPPA made her unique, interesting and mysterious. I love her voice and her stoic, relaxed self. MAPPA did a good job.
QUEEN!!!!!
Great adaptation but I still don't like her as a character
Don’t care about her
don't really care
I hate her and I don't care about her.
WHICH SCENE FROM THE PREVIEW ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO? 247 Responses
Tumblr media
Such a colorful chart for this one. It would appear that slightly over a quarter look most forward to seeing Crykasa at Sasha’s grace. Slightly less (21.9%) want to see Sasha enjoying Niccolo’s cuisine. In third place is the scene with Connie, Jean, Mikasa and Niccolo at Sasha’s grace. The rest are, in order from most to least, Onyankopon and Yelena teaching the Survey Corps about the Port, EMA talking at the shooting range and Hange and Armin learning about Marley’s technology.
HOW HYPED ARE YOU FOR THE UPCOMING TIMESKIP FLASHBACKS? 239 Responses
Tumblr media
The time skip flashbacks seem to be a hit. A little over 51% are super stoked about seeing them animated. Slightly under 24% state that they’ll enjoy them, but are looking forward to other things more. In contrast, 22.6% are ready to go crazy (from a positive standpoint)! Wooo!
Enjoying AND dreading it at the same time
I just want the centipede
Boring. The only thing what interests me is Historia teasing Mikasa about her crush on Eren. The rest is too jolly.
I'm looking forward to see Yelena's insane self be animated. That, and more Zeke.
THE MOST RECENT LIST OF FUTURE EPISODE TITLES SHOWS THAT EPISODE 12 WILL LIKELY END AROUND CHAPTERS 109-111, LEAVING CHAPTER 112 (EMA’S ARGUMENT) FOR EPISODE 13. EPISODE 67 WAS ALMOST ENTIRELY ADAPTED FROM CHAPTER 105, PROVING THAT ADAPTING DIALOGUE-HEAVY CHAPTERS FAITHFULLY CAN EASILY REQUIRE THE FULL 20 MINUTES. WITH ONLY 16 EPISODES - AND SO MANY WHICH ARE DIALOGUE-HEAVY - DO YOU THINK THINGS WILL END OFF WITH THE INITIATION OF THE RUMBLING (CH. 122), AS HAS BEEN SPECULATED BY MUCH OF THE FANDOM? 238 Responses
Tumblr media
The manner in which the Season will end is a mystery to even the manga readers. Where will it end? Will it have many cuts? These are the questions. 36.6% seem to think that MAPPA will somehow manage to both end it at Chapter 122 and cut as little as possible. 26.5% don't believe ending on 122 is possible. 12.2% do believe MAPPA will end the Season on 122, but only with many notable cuts. Finally, just a little under 20% are simply not sure. There were a few write-ins as well.
I hope not, too many cuts would be required
The is no way they're making it up to 122, at first I thought they were going to finish it off with Eren's head getting blown off in 119, but now that seems like a reach too. Now I think MAPPA is probably going to end this first half of the season with Eren and Pieck's "where is the enemy?" and the warriors arriving to Shiganshina
I’m not sure right now so I’ll have to see for later episodes for the cut-off point, if it isn’t the Rumbling then it’ll be when Gabi shoots Eren
MOVIE
I'm conflicted. I'm sure they'll end at rumbling because it's the only reasonable point to cut it, but I feel like they're running out of episodes. Then again I'm feeling the same about the state of Manga, there's just too little chapters left to end things up well.
I don't really want to think too much about it, I just want to enjoy the anime lol
I fully expect 119 to be the end
What was the point of rushing Reiner's chapters if you are going to slow down later. Goddamn it MAPPA.
It'll really depend on the pacing for the next couple episodes, but I'm with a bulk of the fandom that see Chapter 119 Two Brothers being the end point for The Final Season. IF they were to skip the opening and maybe the ending, I can see them transitioning from Eren's head getting blown off immediately into his transformation and the beginning of the Rumbling. But even that is quite farfetched.
I have no idea, I'm a little worried now. Wouldn't be the first time a lot of content gets cut but if they insist on reaching ch. 122, I just don't see how you do that without butchering a lot. If that happens, it would probably lessen my enjoyment of the season.
Yeah, I think it will have a lot of cuts, but I believe that it will get there because Ymir falling in the tree was in the trailer
ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS ON THE EPISODE?
It's amazing seeing how each week, something with SnK trends! ^^
It still baffles me just how much people insist on hating Gabi, especially when her arc has shown tremendous growth in the manga. Reiner was no better than her when he was a child and continued to insist that Paradisians are devils and chose to further destroy their lives even after sleeping under the same roof as the 104th for 3 whole years and forming personal bonds with them. Yet, his actions are forgivable but Gabi's are not? Both characters have shown remorse for their former beliefs and misdeeds against Paradisians. Both realized that they were in the wrong. The characters have forgiven Gabi. Why can't y'all do the same? People who want Gabi to suffer are no better than they accuse her of being.
Well done episode which managed to capture the emotions of sasha's death perfectly
monke
I really appreciate Gabi as a character. She has spunk and a strong character arc in which she changes and grows more than anyone in the last 30 chapters of the manga, save maybe Mikasa (ignoring how Eren, Reiner, Armin and maybe a few others changed during the timeskip). It makes me sad seeing people wishing for her to die and praising Floch and the others for kicking her.
Gabi absolutely deserves the hate she gets
I absolutely love to see the anime-onlies mass hate of GabBitch, does my heart good xD
Boring ,too much Gabi she is annoying
Time to strap in: wild ride ahead!
Gabi Braun is the WORST character, her arc was poorly written and the moment she kills Sasha solidifies her rightful place as most hated character
No development has made me stop hating Gabi. The wound of Sasha's death will ALWAYS overshadow any crocodile tears Gabi may cry.
Kudos to Jean's and Connie's voice actors. Emotions were so raw and natural.
so good! they're really nailing down the emotional beats so far!
Dialogue-heavy but still amazing! Also the music was great
I didn't felt anything when Sasha died. Even the first time, in the manga. She hasn't enough personnality for me to care. Erwin and Bertolt's death were more saddening for me. Stop hating Gabi. She was in grief and she did what Marley brainwashed her to. And Sasha killed people right in front of her, so…
1 chapter was too little to be adapted for an episode, you could tell some scenes were stretched to fit the runtime
The music they chose for the scene of Sasha passing was also the same music they used when the Survey Corps first donned their capes and Eren found out Marco was dead... man, that song is gonna hit harder than ever now
It didn’t help with the overwhelming amount of hate Gabi is getting. I hope Mappa does her justice because she’s a great character but the Anime only seem to hate her because its a “funny” “popular” thing but it really isn’t... shows who really is paying attention to the story and the people who are watching it because it’s popular and trendy
People who are hating on Gabi do not understand the themes portrayed in AoT
Pretty solid overall. Wonderful bits of animation such as the ODM bits and the solid character acting from Sasha going down, Mikasa and Armin is distress, personal highlight being Gabi's reload animation. Good ost choices, nice addition of Samuel and Daz to foreshadow their conflict later on in the story, and great work from Connie, Gabi and Eren's VAs.
Friendly reminder that just because we hate Gabi does NOT mean we don't "understand" the story or themes. We just don't care because Gabi is a bad character.
U mad at Gabi for what she did ? Did she kill Potato girl for no reason? Imgine a kid, at least 3 years younger than the 104th, made fighting on WARS and praised for it, brainwashed by Marley that Paradisians are devils, and these devils came in her home, killing her friends and this WOMAN killed in front of her eyes two people who tried to protect her. Don't be mad at Gabi. Grieve for Sasha, okay, but stop hating Gabi. You're the worst when you do it
Hey Gabiatans: as long as you're not threatening the VA or other RL p olle, it's PERFECTLY fine to hate Gabi. Period. We don't have to like her, and it's not like we don't "understand" her just because we hate her. I "understand" a lot of Germans were forcibly coerced into joining the Nazi regime, but I don't have to pity then for any consequences that came for them.
Leviiiiiii
I was surprised that Mikasa and Armin crying over Sasha had no voice over. I thought it was still effective but I'm not sure if I prefer it. Other than that, the character animation was amazing this episode. Gabi's hands as she reloaded the rifle and Armin crying were my favorites. Overall, everything was pretty perfect and I love it when a chapter gets adapted in full with basically no cuts. One of the best episodes in the series and a proper send off for Sasha.
Wonderfully done episode! They truly did Gabi and Falco's perspectives justice. Also, seeing Eren's expressions and reactions in animated format was clarifying and super well done, too!

————————————————————————————–
Patton looked away from his laptop when he realized more than twenty minutes had passed. He peered over at the enclosure but couldn’t see Logan in the main part of the room. He frowned, wondering what was taking the borrower so long. He knocked on the enclosure gently. “Kiddo? Everything okay in there?”
Logan jerked his head up, realizing he had spent far too long in his little haven.
“Everything is fine!” Logan called back, pleased to hear his voice didn’t shake. He shut off the water, quickly drying off and throwing one of the new outfits on at random. The fabric felt odd against his damp skin, but Logan was more concerned with checking his appearance in the mirror. His eyes appeared red, but it could easily be mistaken for the effects of a hot shower. Satisfied, Logan rushed back out into view.
Patton sighed in relief when Logan looked fine. He opened up the enclosure to allow Logan to get out. “There you are, what happened? Why were you in there so long?”
“I did not want to get out.” Logan shrugged. “It was...I lost track of time.”
“Oh, well that’s okay. I just got a bit worried.” He looked at Logan a little closer, frowning at his red eyes. “How hot was that shower?” He asked softly, reaching up to gently move the hair out of Logan’s eyes. “You’re eyes are all red…”
“I’m fine!” Logan said, louder than he normally would, and as he took a step back he remembered that there was no collar controlling his volume, either.
Patton blinked and snapped his hand back. That...was the loudest he had ever heard Logan speak. “O-Okay, if you’re sure.” Something still didn’t seem right here though.
“Yes, I- I am fine.” Logan lowered his voice, rubbing once at his eyes. If he was honest, he was fine. Well, he wasn’t, but he was certainly better with that cursed collar off.
Patton hummed but didn’t question Logan again. Instead, he grabbed the collar and motioned for Logan to come closer. “Alright then kiddo, let’s get this back on you.”
...well, now Logan wasn’t fine.
Logan took another step back, taking a deep breath. “No.”
 Patton blinked. “I’m sorry?”
“No, I-” Breathe. Logan reminded himself. You can use your words now. “I don’t want to put that abomination around my neck ever again.”
“Aww kiddo, it’s not that bad.” Patton said, frowning at how Logan was acting. He had never seen him act like this before. “And it’s needed, just in case you get lost.”
“If the tag is required, I am willing to carry it myself.” Logan assured him. “But the collar itself is not, and has already caused enough suffering on my end.”
Patton’s eyebrows knit together. “Suffering? Logan, you aren’t making any sense.” Why on earth would a little collar such as this cause Logan suffering?
“The punishments!” Logan insisted. “The shopkeeper claimed it was mild but it’s not, it’s constricting and powerful and completely inhumane!”
Okay Patton was really confused now. “Logan, what are you talking about?!”
“I’m talking about that shock collar!” An exasperated Logan pointed to the darned thing.
“Shock...collar?” Patton frowned and looked down at the collar and for the first time, he saw the little device on the inner area that deemed it such a collar. His eyes widened. “W-Wait you mean this whole time...it-it’s been shocking you?!” Patton asked, visibly upset over this.
Logan’s eyebrows shot up. Of all the reactions he expected to come of his refusal to put the device back on, this was not one of them. “You were ... unaware?”
“Of course! I-I never would have made you keep it if-if I had known!” Patton growled out, looking down at the shock collar. “The pet store didn’t even tell me. Also, how dare they put it on you in the first place!” Patton crushed the collar in his grip and all but threw it in the trash can below his desk. He would certainly be calling them about this.
Logan blinked, shocked by this development… no pun intended.
“They- they used it for obedience training.” Logan explained, feeling the sudden urge to spill his story. “I was too argumentative, they wanted to force me into submission. I couldn’t raise my voice above certain levels. It was programmed so that if I ever said ‘no’ I would receive a shock as well, not wanting me to get mouthy with potential owners. They had a remote too, for those instances when I used the loopholes to continue to snap at my handlers. I’m surprised they did not hand over that device. I was wondering where it had gone.”
“Oh...oh you poor thing. No wonder you were so hesitant to talk to me about things! You couldn’t.” Patton shook his head. “I’m so sorry I didn’t realize this sooner...they’ll certainly be hearing from me.”
Logan quickly nodded, surprised once again. If he had been told an owner could be anything like Patton back at the pet store, Logan would have wanted to be sold sooner. Then again, Logan didn’t particularly want another owner.
“Thank you.” Logan spoke hurriedly, almost as if he still feared he couldn’t get all the words out. “For standing up to them, and listening to me, and getting rid of it. But especially listening to me. No human has ever done that in my lifespan.”
Patton looked at Logan sadly. “I’m sorry you had to deal with that...I wasn’t lying when I said you could tell me anything. I want this arrangement to be comfortable for you.”
“I do not like being touched by strangers.” Logan immediately declared, taking Patton up on his word. He took a deep breath. “I am beginning to trust you, but I still want to have control over my own fate. I also do not like derogatory names. I don’t like messes or roughhousing. I prefer silence and alone time often to recharge.”
Patton nodded. “Okay.” The human smiled. “I’ll make sure that happens. I promise.” Like he said, he wanted Logan to be comfortable. And all this was the least he could do, after what Logan had to go through.
Logan was surprised the human agreed. “And… in exchange?”
Patton blinked, tilting his head. “Exchange? Um...your happiness?”
“Surely that cannot be all that you desire.” Logan squinted suspiciously.
“Honestly kiddo, I just want you to be happy here. With-with me.” Patton smiled softly. “I guess, all I could ask is that you...give me a chance?”
Logan paused, considering both his own demands and Patton’s character thus far. “I believe I can do that.” Logan confirmed, the faintest of smiles on his lips.
Patton grinned and squealed a little. “Yay! I’m glad!” He reached out to scoop Logan up and hug him but stopped himself. “Oh, wait, right. No touching. Sorry.” He pulled his hands back to his lap but still continued to smile at Logan.
Logan cleared his throat, feeling obliged to give in to Patton’s whims. “I suppose… some touching at this particular juncture could be, acceptable.”
Patton’s eyes widened. “Really? Because I don’t want to make you uncomfortable or like you are obligated to.”
“No, you’ve been exceedingly gentle, and generous as well.” Logan explained. “You’ve behaved kinder than I expected and for that I want to encourage that behavior with positive reinforcement. I assure you I will not mind the contact.”
Patton grinned. “Well, if you’re sure!” Patton reached out and gently scooped Logan up, holding him close to his chest.
Logan tensed at the initial touch, but when Patton’s hands remained steady he reached out to give Patton’s chest a careful pat.
Patton chuckled. “See? I told you I was right in choosing you. We were meant to be together.”
Logan wasn’t certain about that statement, but he was growing fond of Patton’s compliance. If things kept up in this manner… perhaps the future would not be so bad. But then again, Logan had yet to see Patton experience a wide variety of emotions that had a nasty habit of turning humans foul.
---------------------------------------
Virgil wasn’t sure how much time had passed before he finally looked up from his phone but it appeared that Roman was basically done putting away his clothes. “Took you long enough.”
Roman didn’t bother verbally responding, just leaning on the outside wall of his prison and pointedly avoiding eye contact.
Virgil frowned. “You know, if you didn’t get so many clothes it wouldn’t have taken you so long to put them all away.”
Still Roman ignored him, content to provide the silent treatment.
Virgil sighed. “Okay, I get it. Giving me the silent treatment huh?” Virgil crossed his arms. “Stealing my idea and everything. Very original.”
“It’s not your idea.” Roman snipped before he could stop himself.
Virgil snorted. “Maybe not but you are really bad at this.” He knew Roman couldn’t stay silent forever. The borrower was a talker for sure.
Roman scowled, crossing his own arms and sliding further down the wall.
Virgil sighed, running a hand down his face. “Look. I just don’t get it. You’d think you would be used to all of this by now.”
“Forgive me for not conforming to your captivity.” Roman growled.
“Roman, the reason you’re in ‘captivity’ is to keep you safe. Borrowers can’t survive on their own out there. You don’t have the skills your ancestors once did.” Virgil explained.
“You don’t know that.” Roman argued, turning so his back was almost fully facing Virgil. “You don’t know anything about me.”
Virgil bit his lip. “Okay...then tell me about yourself.”
The borrower’s shoulders tensed, and Roman threw Virgil a calculated look over his shoulder. “What?”
“Tell me about yourself. If you really think I don’t know you, then tell me about your life. About your likes and dislikes. Whatever you want to tell me.” Virgil said, leaning on his arms on the desk.
Roman turned, not fully facing him but enough that he could look the human in the eye. He was quiet for a while, keeping his face neutral as Roman’s mind raced to figure out what he wanted to say. On the one hand, opening up to an owner was an objectively bad idea, and would most definitely make it harder to escape once Virgil knew how to become more vigilant.
But on the other hand… Roman was desperate for someone to actually listen for once.
“This was my first borrowing.” Roman blurted out, the words seeming to come on their own accord. He grabbed the front of his princely outfit to indicate he was talking about the costume. “I snatched it on my way out of the last home. It wasn’t a gift; I took it. A little bit of an act of vengeance as well. I took other things before in my escape attempts, things like food and water, but a first borrowing is something that you retrieve on your own, that you can keep. It’s yours, and in a world where even my body is often just another possession, having something of my own is a pretty big flippin’ deal.”
Roman looked away again, staring off at a random spot on the wall. “Back in the real borrowing days, it was also a sign of independence.” Roman explained quietly. “The first step to showing you could make it on your own.”
Virgil...didn’t know what to say. Whatever he had been expecting, it hadn’t been that. “I...wow, that’s…” Virgil ran a hand through his hair. “I had...no idea.” The history of borrowers was a short and sweet one. But apparently there was a lot more to it.
“I’m not incompetent, Virgil.” Roman turned fully away again, hiding his face. “I know the wilderness is harsh for borrowers, I’ve lived there.”
Virgil blinked. “Wait...what? H-How?” That...that should be impossible.
Roman took a slow, shuddering breath. “When I was really young, my family was Outies, or outdoor borrowers. I don’t-” One of Roman’s hands combed through his hair. “I don’t remember it, exactly, just bits and pieces, enough to know that yeah, it was dangerous, but we were fine. At least we were until some humans decided to show up, separate us and sell us to the highest bidder.”
Roman scowled at the memory, knowing that anger was easier because he was not about to cry in front of Virgil and send the exact wrong message of this whole thing.
“It’s near impossible to survive out there, but not because of the wilderness.” Roman explained, getting to his point. “It’s because humans won’t let us. You all act like you know best and put on this savior act all the while ushering us into cages and expecting us to smile about it. It’s infuriating!”
Virgil looked down, his world view suddenly changing. “I...I had no idea there were even any wild borrowers left. We’re always told that, at this point, you’re all raised in captivity from birth.” Virgil ran a hand down his face, messing up his eyeshadow a bit but he didn’t care. “You...You were really taken from your family?”
“Well, and they were taken from me, a two way street I suppose.” Roman gave a chuckle that was far too bitter and high-pitched. “I’ve mostly made my peace with it, considering there’s almost no chance of a family reunion. I don’t know where they went, and I was so young I often... forget the faces.”
Roman cleared his throat, a poor attempt at changing the subject. “And, as for captivity from birth, that’s where Little Logan comes in.”
“Logan? Oh, so he was in captivity all his life.” Like Virgil thought all borrowers were supposed to be.
“I assume.” Roman gave a small shrug, leaning back against the wall again and sliding to the ground. He gave a quick wipe of his sleeve across the eyes, almost glaring at Virgil to his left as if daring him to say anything. “I mean, I don’t know his life story, but most trained borrowers are and he’s yet to prove me wrong.”
Virgil was silent for a long time. “I’m...I’m sorry. You were right. I really didn’t know anything about you.”
Roman let out something that might have been an amused scoff. “I’m not exactly a big fan of leading with my tragic backstory, it’s tacky.”
“Yeah, I, uh, I understand that.” Virgil looked down. “So then...what’s your overall goal? If...If you managed to escape and not get caught by other humans, what are your plans?”
Roman wasn’t able to hide the surprise on his face that a human- his owner, no less- sounded almost genuinely curious about his goals, instead of just trying to gather information to stop him from doing so.
“...I don’t know.” Roman admitted. “I just kinda always wanted to see if I could do it, I guess. Just take it one day at a time and see what happens. But, it-” Roman winced, his pride hurting as he knew he shouldn’t admit this but apparently it was designated sharing time according to his stupid heart.
“It...it is reckless to be an Outie alone.” Roman explained. “It’s probably part of the reason I keep getting caught. I think I remember easily over a dozen borrowers in my first clan, safety in numbers and all that. So I’m just stuck in this loop of captured, sold, escape, nearly die...aaaaand captured again.”
Yeah, Roman really shouldn’t be saying all of this.
“Except for household number four.” Roman snickered a bit. “I annoyed him so much he just marched me right back to the shelter himself. Skip the middleman, I guess.”
Again, it was a lot of information for Virgil to take in. “Roman, I…” He bit his lip. “Maybe...the cycle could end here?” He swallowed the lump in his throat.
“Because like...I want this to work. You and I. I...I know I’ve been pretty crappy so far.” He chuckled humorlessly. “I did throw you across the room, after all. And I...I hurt you, even if I never meant to, I still did. And I’m sorry for all that...I really am.”
He did his best to meet Roman’s eyes. “I promise, I’ll do better. Please, just...give me a chance?”
Roman took a moment to study Virgil’s expression, finding only sincerity. It made Roman’s chest pinch in an unpleasant, but not necessarily bad, way. Perhaps it was time to settle down. Who was Roman fooling, anyhow? Virgil was the best human he had yet, and if he was eventually going to be stuck living with a human this might be his best shot. It could be bearable, pleasant even. Virgil had already made it clear he was willing to spoil Roman ‘til his teeth went rotten, and he was the first human who seemed to give a crap about Roman as a person.
But then, Roman’s wandering fingers traced over the tag, still hanging from the collar forever around his neck.
Not as a person, then. Roman winced, correcting his line of thinking. As a pet.
Roman turned away, back to looking at that spot on the wall. His fingers continued to play with the little metal tag, turning it this way and that as if it wasn’t a symbol of everything he loathed about this arrangement. No, Roman couldn’t be happy here. Even if he was merely a desperate fool, Roman knew in his heart he could never stop chasing that elusive feeling of freedom, and he knew freedom was the one thing he could never find here. But he could never tell Virgil that.
“Yes.” Roman said finally, slipping back into his old charming ways. “I think I can do that.”
Virgil smiled. “Thank you, Roman. I promise, I won’t let you down.” He would try even harder to make sure Roman was comfortable and listened to.
Roman just nodded, wondering when lying had started to hurt.

Opinions: let’s shock everyone and not choose the obvious. Kira Carsen, Vector Hyllus, Akaavi (I know you like her but still). For WoW, Anduin.
Well, I spend half my time on this blog on the obvious choices. I think those opinions are probably clear.
Since you asked about several, I’m going to save some sanity and use a key.
How I feel about this character
All the people I ship romantically with this character
My non-romantic OTP for this character
My unpopular opinion about this character
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
These are mostly emotional responses and may not fit canon. If so, please don’t tell me, I’d hate to be made aware of things that would make me dislike them.
Kira Carsen
Love her like a sister. I don’t agree with her all the time, mainly about the whole “it’s time for the Jedi to get political” and such, but she can be flawed and not really affect my affection for her.
A good or good-ish smuggler or agent (would probably have to not be loyal to the Empire). I also like the idea of her with an LS Inquisitor, but it would require a lot of work (probably including re-writing some of the Inquisitor’s past actions) to make sense, and would start off rocky, but I think they have some shared experience to bond over. Ashara.
I tried to stay away from them for this, but I can’t: She should form a found family relationship with the Tiralls. Preferably with a new little sister. This would also require some work to make viable, beyond the obvious. Risha, and maybe Vette since I really think they should have returned together.
She shouldn’t have been a romance option for the Knight without other changes to their relationship.  I wish she had started out as an equal to the Knight rather than a Padawan, for one. She was there sharing the risks in the early chapters and that could have been her trials. If it weren’t for that, I probably would have included the JK in #2.
See 4, but mainly: She absolutely should have returned during KotXX. It might be for the best that she didn’t, but a good story with that is such a loss.
Vector Hyllus
I generally like him. I don’t have the affection for him the “bug husband” fans do, but he’s generally kind-seeming and supportive to the Agent, romanced or not. I am always uncomfortable with companions that show too much loyalty to the Empire. He does seem OK with the Agent being a traitor, though. His being part of the hive isn’t really a problem, though if he was at any point coerced my opinion on that would change, but that’s not my impression and I wouldn’t blame him for it.
The Agent, especially an LS one. I don’t think I have any others.
Also the Agent and most of the crew. He seems to get along well with the bad doctor especially. Mako, couldn’t tell you why. A not-too-awful Warrior might make a good friend/bodyguard type relationship.
I don’t know if it’s unpopular, but I would have liked to explore more of the philosophical implications of his state and how it affects his loyalties, especially considering his treatment of elements in the Empire during the story.
I wish we had gotten to see something of him before the bonding, possibly in a recording.
Akaavi Spar
I like her a great deal, though sometimes I think I may like my image of her more than the actual character. I think she has her own code but won’t let anyone take advantage of her for it, pragmatic but honorable. I don’t remember the romance, it’s been too long and was before I started recording everything, but I felt like it was a decent, “I’m big and powerful and don’t like you much” but growing more affectionate, so that would be good if it’s not just my own headcanon.
Any Smuggler, really, though I prefer the idea of her becoming a couple with more neutral or light sided characters. I have a nagging feeling I’m missing an NPC, but it’s not coming to mind.
I want to see her in a drinking contest with the Trooper or the BH, not sure why. Senya. Koth.
She didn’t get enough play time by half.
Female smugglers should have been allowed to romance her.
Anduin Wrynn
Great character. Epitome of “our children should be better than us.” Wants peace desperately but isn’t going to take your guff if it comes to that. I feel so sorry that he was born into his world. Kind, honorable, protective. Not only willing to accept surrender but willing to offer the chance, though it’s cost him at least once.
I can’t think of any. I could joke here about Wrathion, so I will, but nothing serious comes to mind.
I’d like our heroes to be allowed some time to just hang out with him. Again, including select Horde members. Saurfang after lifting him to his feet. Jaina. I’m sure I’m missing a bunch. He’s just likeable.
I like him and hope he doesn’t change TOO much. I haven’t seen a lot of hate for him, but considering what kind of character he is, I expect there must be.
I would have liked to be allowed to meet his mother rather than just have her be part of his and his dad’s tragic backstory.

Izuku is 23 here!!
Summary:
Yagi Toshinori knew how this was going to end. Izuku would press and Toshinori, who was unable to deny him anything, would crumble and confess why he had been avoiding the younger man. Izuku would then look at him, surprised and shocked and a little bit disgusted, before turning him down gently and exiting the room, leaving Toshinori in shambles behind him. But then, like he always seemed to do, Midriya Izuku shattered all his expectations. *** Toshinori and Izuku have been pining for each other, and everyone is honestly sick of it. Uraraka and Mina, seeing that those two weren't going to do anything to solve the tension between them, take the matter on their own hands. How? Locking them together, of course!
A gift to @commander-erwin-smith for the @dailybnha secret santa exchange! I hope you like it :)
Read it in AO3.
Or read it under the cut:
The yearly Christmas party that was celebrated at UA, and which this year was attended by the whole of what five years ago was 3-A (at their insistence), had only been going on for no more than an hour and he already wanted to bash his head on something.
‘The pining is making me sick.’
Aizawa Shouta, also known as pro hero Eraserhead, took a sip of his drink and frowned as he saw the two people that thought was about talking to each other.
On one side was Midoriya Izuku, also known as pro hero Deku. He hadn’t changed much since he was a student under Shouta, still as bright and easily flustered, and he was showing it while floundering in his conversation with the other person: Toshinori Yagi. All Might. Who was as hopeless as the younger man, if the way he blushed and didn’t quite meet the eyes of the other hero was any indication.
Honestly, those two. Ever since All Might’s retirement, Shouta had noticed their relationship getting closer and closer but being the emotionally clueless man he was, it wasn’t until Hizashi pointed it out that he noticed the blushes both wore often when they were around each other. How Midoriya’s eyes shone with much more than hero worship, and how Yagi’s smile was a touch too warm and fond to be just fatherly. Not to talk about the guilt and anguish the older man showed immediately after, distancing himself from the younger and leaving Midoriya staring after him with a confused and heartbroken look in his eyes that definitely didn’t make Shouta want to go after All Might and make him apologize, no matter what Hizashi said.
It was a situation straight out of a manga. Seriously, Shouta didn’t know two people could be so obviously in love with each other but completely unaware the object of their affections felt the same. That level of obliviousness seemed too much to exist, but there it was. Shouta was seeing it with his own two eyes.
And he wasn’t the only one if the way Uraraka and Mina were whispering and glancing towards the pair was any indication. Shouta’s senses screamed that mischief was on its way, but they also warned him that he didn’t want to be caught in the middle of whatever they were planning.
Decision made, he turned around and ignored the concerning words he could overhear among the whispering.
He nearly pitied the two oblivious idiots, but it was something they had coming to them.
Yagi Toshinori was an utter fool.
Or at least, that’s how the man himself felt as he made way for the other side of the party room, knowing full well he was running away like a coward and not caring in the slightest.
He knew he was hurting Izuku by behaving like he was. By distancing himself, pulling away from conversations. But he couldn't help it, just like he couldn't help not pulling completely away from him.
He knew it was wrong to feel like he did for someone so much younger than him, but he couldn't seem to stop, even after all these years. As the former number one hero, he'd had to hide his injury and secret identity from everyone, preventing him from getting close to people.
He'd known that becoming a symbol would be a lonely, lonely life. A life he thought himself prepared for. But loneliness took its toll, and so he clung to few people he had. And of all of them, Midoriya Izuku had always been special.
The kid had always been so strong and heroic, with a heart bigger than anyone he’d met before. The second he saw him, scrawny and teary but determined to save his friend from the sludge villain, he’d known that he had been wrong telling him he couldn’t be a hero. At that moment, Toshinori was sure Midoriya Izuku had the potential of becoming a great hero, quirk or not. It was also at that moment that he knew the kid would be a great successor, his quirk only increasing the potential he already had.
Toshinori had then seen himself as a mentor to the kid and hadn’t expected their relationship to go much further. But then again, he hadn’t expected to live much longer either, so he hadn’t been as guarded around the kid as he usually was with other people. Izuku knew about his other form, so he let himself be Toshinori instead of the boisterous number one hero All Might. And as time passed, it felt more and more natural to let the kid, who was becoming a young man, to see more of him. His bad days, his flaws, his failures (he failed Nana when he couldn’t save her from dying, and failed her again along with his successor when he didn’t kill All for One the first time and that hurt). All the parts of himself Toshinori disliked, Izuku saw them and instead of becoming disillusioned (because the number one hero was supposed to be perfect, always smiling, always cheerful and reassuring) his awe of him only increased.
“You may be All Might, Yagi-san, but you’re still human,” Izuku had said with a serious look in his eyes. “The fact that you could do everything you’ve done while carrying that burden only makes you more incredible to me.”
And oh, Toshinori may not know exactly when he fell for his young charge, but he felt that moment was probably it.
“Call me Toshinori, my boy,” was the only answer he could give.
“Call me Izuku then!” Izuku had smiled.
From then on, they became closer and closer, until Toshinori realized his feelings and felt so disgusted with himself that he began to do what he had just done: pull away. Put distance between them, but not pulling completely away because it hurt so much, and Toshinori had always tried not to be selfish but he couldn’t help himself where Izuku was concerned. He knew it was the right thing to do until he’d buried those feelings, but he just couldn’t walk away from Izuku.
The hurt in his eyes every time he did this just made him feel worse.
“Yagi-sensei!”
Startled out of his thoughts by the sudden voice, Toshinori turned around to see young Ashido grinning at him.
“Ah, Ashido-kun!” he greeted, plastering a smile on his face, “Long time no see! How have you been-”
“No time for niceties, Yagi-sensei, I need you to come with me right now!”
Alarmed, Toshinori allowed Mina to drag him away from the party.
“What happened? Is everything okay?”
“It’s an emergency!” Mina insisted, her words only worrying Yagi more.
Which was why he was so startled when he was suddenly pushed into a small storage room along with another person before the door closed on them.
“Ashido-kun! What-?!”
“Ochaco-chan, why-?!”
Someone talked at the same time as him, and Toshinori tensed as he recognized the voice. But before either of them could say anything, Mina and Uraraka spoke from outside.
“Sorry Deku-kun, Yagi-sensei, but this is for your own good!”
“That’s right! The way you both are behaving is painful to watch, so you are not getting out of there until you’ve talked!”
Speechless at the daring of his former students, Toshinori just stared at the closed door for a few seconds before sighing and turning towards the other occupant of the room.
"Do you want to do the honors or shall I?" He asked, gesturing at the door that could be very easily blown away with a small Smash.
Izuku remained quiet for a few seconds, looking at his feet with a neutral face Toshinori had never seen before on him, before seemingly coming to a decision and looking up. As he met those green eyes, Toshinori couldn't help but gulp slightly at the sheer determination in them and in that very second, he knew he wasn't getting out of this anytime soon.
"No, Toshinori," Izuku said in a soft but firm voice, "We are not getting out. I've been trying to corner you for months, and you kept avoiding me so now that I have you here we're going to stay and we're going to talk."
Yes, he was definitely not getting out of this.
Toshinori and Izuku stared at each other's eyes in a silent contest for a few seconds, when Toshinori let out a long sigh and seemed to deflate, conceding defeat.
"Very well, Izuku. Let's talk."
He knew how this was going to end.
Yes, he knew how this would end. But seeing the hidden hurt in Izuku's eyes, Toshinori couldn't make himself run away anymore. He had to stop being a coward and confront his feelings, even if it meant losing someone so dear to him.
“Why have you been avoiding me, Toshinori?” Came the expected question. Yoshinori steeled himself, took and deep breath and made to answer before Izuku, as he always seemed to do, shattered all his expectations.
“Is it because of my feelings?” And after hearing those words, Toshinori couldn’t breathe.
“I-I know I’m obvious,” Continued Izuku, the confident pro hero of before melting back to the awkward and stuttering young man he had always been, “Everyone had told me for years that I’m incredibly obvious. That I should just confess. B-but I was afraid because I didn’t want to lose what we have, Toshinori. But then you started to distance yourself from me a-and I couldn’t understand why until I remembered that I have always been really obvious with my feelings, and realized you must have realized how I feel about you and felt disgusted o-or like you had to put some distance between us and-” With practiced ease, Toshinori stopped Izuku from going into what he recognized to be the start of a muttering streak by placing one hand on his mouth.
The act had been automatic because his mind was just blank. Trying to process what Izuku had said, what his words had implied, and with his mind, as shortcircuited as it was, it was no wonder that the first thing that came from his mouth was:
“You can’t love me!”
Izuku blinked at him, his cheeks red before taking away Toshinori’s hand from his mouth and saying, “Of course I love you! I’m not lying!”
“B-but you can’t!” Toshinori insisted, his mind slowly coming back online and feeling incredibly lost, “I’m old. And sickly. And quirkless. And you have so much potential, so much life ahead of you… why would you waste your feelings in a useless, sick old man?”
And ah, Toshinori should have known better than to say any of that, because when it came to defending the people he loved Izuku was as fierce as a dragon. And sure enough, after a few seconds of staring at his former teacher in shock, Izuku snapped out of it and in his eyes lighted the fire of determination.
“You’re not useless!” He stated firmly, the hand that wasn’t grasping Toshinori’s coming to hold it as well, squeezing lightly. “And I don’t care how old you are, or that you don’t have your quirk! I love you because you are kind and strong. Because you can smile and say ‘I am here!’ even you don’t feel like smiling. Because you're able to carry on, wearing the world in your shoulders without complaint. Because you are human, and have flaws, and make mistakes, but you do your best to make up for them and continue forwards without letting them drag you down.” Toshinori, breathless as he was from the honest words that seemed to come from Izuku’s heart, once again lost his breath when Izuku added, “I don’t love you because you’re All Might. I love you because you are Yagi Toshinori.”
‘I love you because you are Yagi Toshinori’. Those words rang in Toshinori’s mind as he stared at the green eyes of the man who had just confessed so much to him. Who has been brave enough to open his heart to him, not knowing about Toshinori’s feelings.
It has been stated before that Toshinori was unable to deny Izuku anything. It has also been stated before that where Midoriya Izuku was concerned, Toshinori was selfish. So even though the correct thing would be to turn him down, to avoid letting him become attached to someone with so little time left, Toshinori wound his free hand in Izuku’s hair and brought him forwards in a kiss that, after a brief moment of shock, had Izuku melting into him.
“Toshi?” Izuku murmured in an insecure but hopeful tone after both of them separated, panting for air.
“I love you too, Izuku,” Toshinori immediately said, ignoring the slight shiver the nickname had elicited in him. “I’ve been pulling away because I love you, because I was a coward and feared losing you if you knew of my feelings. I’ve been running away from them but it seems you've inspired me to act once again, my boy,” he added with a rueful chuckle.
"You've never needed help to act, Toshi," Izuku said with a warm smile, "Just a little push, sometimes."
Toshinori chuckled again, knowing Izuku was right, and let himself be drawn to another kiss.
"What the hell did you do with those two?"
Ashido Mina and Uraraka Ochaco looked at their former homeroom teacher and without having to look at each other, gave him the most believable innocent look Aizawa had seen. He would have applauded them if it wasn't because it had been half an hour since the two women had spirited those two away and they weren’t back yet.
“What do you mean sensei?”
“Not your sensei anymore, thank God,” Aizawa immediately replied, “And that innocent look doesn’t work with me. Now answer the question.” The stern tone had the two former students wilt slightly, and Aizawa hid a smile in his scarf as he saw that yes, he still had it.
“Well...” Mina said, reddening slightly and looking away.
“We might have locked them together in a storeroom somewhere...” Uraraka admitted, making Aizawa pinch the bridge of his nose in exasperation.
“A storeroom,” he deadpanned. “You locked in a storeroom the two people with strength quirks.” At his words, the redness on the two girls’ faces increased.
He would have kept speaking if he hadn't been interrupted by said two people returning to the party room. One look at them, though, had him wishing he hadn’t worried about them... and that he hadn’t trained so much at noticing the smallest thing in people, because their red faces and tousled clothes told him things about his former student and former colleague that he didn’t want to know.
‘I know I wanted their pining to stop, but I’m not nearly drunk enough for this.’
Meandering back to Hizashi’s side, and leaving the two idiots to the mercies of the two young women who had also noticed their reappearance, he took the blond’s glass and, without a word, drank it in one go.
“Shouta?!” Hizashi spluttered, surprised.
“Power Loader won the bet,” was the only explanation Aizawa gave as he reached for another drink.
“Wait, didn’t Power Loader bet that they would-?”
“Exactly.”
He gulped another drink.

as a person who seems to have a solid knowledge of p&p and who has actually read the book, how do you feel about people comparing it to reylo and “to all the boys i’ve ever loved” and Any Media in Which the Smart Girl Rejects the Snooty Guy
TV Tropes’ entry for P&P notes the ‘Belligerent Sexual Tension’ theme as being a common shorthand often used in adaptations, which is kind of par for the course when the story is being trimmed down to its basic elements and generally for an audience expecting something which more or less aligns narratively with the modern romantic comedy formula–where BST abounds.
So I can’t say I’m all that shocked when people compare the dynamic in P&P to other storylines or tailor their shipping and fics along similar lines; but in my opinion it’s more that they’re playing to the more basic rom-com formula itself, and that calling it like unto Pride and Prejudice/Elizabeth and Darcy is more window-dressing or name-dropping, given that in the novel Elizabeth definitively and actively dislikes Darcy well into the proceedings, whatever he may feel about her. Some adaptations seem to hint at her struggling with some instinctive or basic attraction to him, physically, at the very least, which of course the genteel young lady could never dare even put into words, much less act upon on or express directly to the fine piece of ass, himself. But, again, these are adaptational choices not remotely borne out by the text, and to me are more like signposts put in by modern writers for modern audiences. And that’s kind of a neutral thing, morally-speaking! Adaptation as an art/science and the cultures in which historical novels are adapted is fascinating and complex, and I will never shut up about it.
Bottom line, the comparisons are not surprising, are flawed, but also deeply ingrained into the way things are done, now. P&P is an iconic story and its characters are often looked upon as touchstones for some modern archetypes. The comparisons which superficially work because they DO fall under the umbrella of tropes and stereotypes fall apart upon closer scrutiny of the original text, but then one could almost have a completely different discussion depending on whether they’re comparing film to film or film to text. Film to film, it’s far easier to argue that the comparisons are valid, because the P&P adaptors of the 20th and 21st centuries are/were working in a MUCH more similar cultural framework to the examples of the films/ships you mentioned, and to the rom-com as we know it. Austen’s text exists in another framework.
Now that I’ve given my pseudo-scholarly response, I’m gonna just take a hot second here to address WHOMST HATH BEEN SPITTING IN JANE AUSTEN’S EYE BY EVEN BEGINNING TO COMPARE HECKDAMN REYLO TO ELIZABETH BENNET AND FITZWILLIAM DARCY?
Tumblr media
I DON’T KNOW WHAT HELLISH FICHOLE Y’ALL FELL DOWN AND CONCUSSED YOURSELF IN, BUT DARCY NEVER SLAUGHTERED ANYBODY AND IF HE HAD YOU BET YOUR BIPPY ELIZABETH BOMB-ASS-BITCH BENNET WOULD HAVE NOPED THE FUCK ON OUT OF THE BEAUTIFUL GROUNDS AT PEMBERLEY AND RESIGNED HERSELF TO ROAMING THE STREETS OF MERYTON AS A BEGGARLY SPINSTER FOLLOWING THE COLLINS’ POSSESSION OF LONGBOURN SOONER THAN MAKE SENTIMENTAL ALLOWANCES FOR HIS HOMICIDAL ASS. (Unless you’re Linda Berdoll but that’s another fucking rant entirely and Darcy actually bounces back from that pretty quick and never faces consequences so sure if you wanna make fic-hero-Kylo/Darcy parallels maybe just make it clear you’re drawing from the Berdoll-Darcy tradition of characterization and not from anything in Austen’s text. Take Berdoll Darcy. No, please. Take him.)

BBC Les Mis highlights
I waited till the last minute to review decided to review the BBC Les Mis series after all 6 episodes have aired.  So here’s my partially analytical, partially comical commentary on the BBC series.  A lot of stuff under the cut, lol.
- The Waterloo scene with Thénardier flexin’ like he wasn’t just about to rob Pontmercy 😒.  The dude’s so two-faced, but that’s in character.
- The Toulon prison scene looks like it was filmed in an arid, desert-like region, like Zion National Park.  I’m very curious about where this was filmed!
- One moment in the Toulon scene that stood out to me was with the prisoner about to get executed by firing squad.  And Javert just says “fire” in the most monotone voice ever as if it was nothing.  It really shows how indifferent he is to this sort of stuff.
- The “you will never win” line from Javert makes him seem like a stereotypical movie villain.  Just add lightning and a dramatic music sting wait, there’s no music allowed.
- The French dialog in the background is a clever way to establish the setting.  I wish I knew more French so I could understand the background conversations!
- The parts of episode 1 with Fantine and her homies just hanging out and being happy were my favorite scenes.
- Fantine is played by Lily Collins, who is Phil Collins’ daughter.  Phil Collins is a musician.  But I thought there was no singing allowed, Davies 😤
- I like how Fantine has a last name (Tibeau) in this series.  I like the idea of giving names to characters with unmentioned last/first names in the book.
- Georges Pontmercy tries to contact his father-in-law George Washington Gillenormand, who is a pretentious royalist that won’t let Marius see his dad.
- Seriously, I know almost nothing about 19th century fashion and I still can tell that Gillenormand and his royalist buddies’ hairstyles are anachronistic.
- Cosette, Éponine, and Azelma playing together after Fantine arrived with Cosette at the inn reminded me of the powerpuff girls with their hair styles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-This is sad as well, because this the last time Cosette will be happy in a very long time.
- Fantine being optimistic and thinking she’ll see Cosette in 6 months really makes me sad, knowing what will happen in the future.
- Madeleine firing Fantine for lying (when he himself is lying, in a way, by hiding his identity) seems harsh and out-of character.  Valjean is supposed to have the most dramatic character changes of all the characters, but it looks like he hasn’t changed at all since Toulon.
- Javert talks to Madeleine in the same condescending way he did when he was 24601.  He was being all passive-aggressive and basically accusing him of being a criminal without directly saying it to his face.
- The dude that buys Fantine’s hair and teeth looks hella creepy.  Like wtf is that tattoo near his eye?
- Javert was super indifferent to Fantine’s death.
- Javert seems more like lawful evil than lawful neutral in this series.
- Valjean Harry Houdinis himself out of prison and shows up to get Cosette...2 years later?
- Rosalie Thénardier (again, I like that she has a first name) is depicted very well and is not solely a comic relief.
- Creepy hair buying guy returns and sells Chuckie Catherine to Valjean
- Valjean when he sees that Thénardier followed him and Cosette into the woods to bargain for more money:
Tumblr media
- Cosette is right.  The landlord is a nosy lil bitch.
- At the end of episode 3, Javert gets super pissed that Valjean has narrowly escaped.  This is so sad Alexa play One Way or Another by Blondie.
- Big time jump!  What year is it?  Now I miss the exact year being shown on the screen.
- Valjean has morphed into Queen Aggravain from Once Upon a Mattress, so I guess Cosette is a much-smarter Prince Dauntless?  (Stop it annachronistic!  This is not a musical review.  Andrew Davies forbids it 😠)
- Since Cosette has some traits of an ingenue, and since Davies likes making female characters one-dimensional, I was afraid that he was gonna make her really dumb.  Thankfully she is smart, and I don’t think that Valjean perceives her as being dumb.  I think he is trying to shelter her from the world not because he thinks she is weak, but because he is super paranoid and has trust issues.  Like he might be afraid of her meeting someone like Tholomyes or Thénardier.
- But Valjean goes about his protection of Cosette in the most jerkish way possible.
- Mabeuf is the real MVP
- The return of the landlord in episode 4 (dun dun dunn)
- I hate the strip tease scene.  Like stahp.
- And I also dislike the over-sexualization of (abused!) women, and the idea that a woman has to be “sexy” or beautiful in order to be loved.  In the words of the great Bart Baker “It sends the message to young girls: pretty equals happiness.  If you’re ugly then you’re worthless and your life will be bland and shitty”
youtube
- In episode 4 Marius is pretty much a socially awkward Glenn Quagmire from Family Guy.
- The scene where Thénardier forces Azlema to break the window with her hand makes Thénardier look like a sociopath.
- I don’t know why Valjean took Cosette to the Gorbeau house where the Thénardiers were staying.  I think it’s to emphasize that Cosette remembers the Thénardiers?
- New drinking game: take a shot every time Thénardier says he was in Waterloo.
- The Gorbeau house raid was actually my favorite scene of episode 4 (I’m biased because I’m an action movie fan), although there is a shocking lack of “would you like my hat?”.
- Valjean going crazy and burning his arm with the hot iron and Madame Thénardier throwing that giant ass rock!   I think X Gon’ Give It To Ya by DMX would be the perfect soundtrack for the Gorbeau house scene.
- Gavroche’s brothers/gamin buddies in episode 5!
- Also, Gavroche looks like Huey Freeman from The Boondocks.  I cannot unsee this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Marius, justifiably upset at his grandfather says “You disrespected my father, and now you disrespect wife?!”  Like, he didn’t even say “future” wife, and he’s only spoken to her 4 times in the show.  Slow down there, buckaroo.
- Also Gillenormand changes somewhat even he changed more than Valjean wtf and has some regrets about not letting Marius see his dad.
- I hate seeing Valjean fighting with Cosette.  In fact, the whole thing is pretty farcical.  There are a lot of Jerry Springer moments.
- Case in point: Enjolras.  The background info for the reasons for the June rebellion was glossed over pretty quickly, so it seems like he’s starting shit just to start shit.
- Javert thinks Valjean is the leader of the rebellion like wtf?  At this point, BBC Javert seems more like the Javert from the musical (ya know, going after the same criminal for almost 2 decades instead of randomly meeting him in a series of coincidences).
- I love the drone shots of the barricades
- Marius goes from super giddy to suicide bomber in like one day.  I love the recurring theme of characters going berserk.
youtube
- And Enjolras and the rebels thought that was a badass moment for him.
- It’s a 3-way tie between Valjean, Javert, and Marius for being the most extra™ character in the series.
- Cosette saying “I hate you” to Valjean somehow seemed both out-of character and justified.
- Éponine getting shot was too sad.
- Gavroche’s body getting put next to Éponine‘s :(
- The army guy staring at Grantaire and Enjolras after killing them :(
- After Valjean finds him at the barricade and sees he has a knife Javert is like:
Tumblr media
- Valjean saying he might “change his mind” about not killing Javert ???
- not enough sewers 0/10
- Gillenormand’s reaction when he thought that Marius was dead made me finally feel sympathy for him
- Javert’s suicide was surreal because he was methodical about it.  After crying for a few seconds, he goes back to his stoic self and jumps off the bridge because he actually sees it as a logical solution.
- Valjean casually admitting to Marius that he was thinking about murdering him *eyeroll*
- The biggest what-the-fuck moment (history wise) was when Thénardier said he was going to La Jolla in the New World to trade slaves.  If I heard it right, he is talking about La Jolla in California.  California did not become a state until 1850.  So if this is true, then Cosette is in her mid-30′s, Marius is at least 40, and Thénardier is at least 77.  Damn, they aged well!
- Valjean’s hair finally changed color once he slips into depression.
- At least Valjean had a peaceful death, and Cosette was by his side.  His relationship with his daughter was resolved and the story was able to (sort of) have a happy ending.
- Speaking of endings, the series ends on a frickin’ cliff hanger with the two gamin boys begging on the streets.  I guess it’s to show that the world is still a cruel place, but some can overcome it?
- We now need Les Misérables 2: Thénardier goes to America and his 2 unnamed sons get adopted by the Pontmercys.

Character Development Questions: Hard Mode. | accepting.
I kept this short on purpose because… safcjk. Have to put it under read more too because it’s hella long.
2. What is/was your character’s relationship with their mother like?Like most children Khashin had always adored his mother who took good care of him despite of her rather weak health condition. She taught him the practical things of life - at least those aspects he needed as young boy – for example how to take care of their cattle or how to sew basics things. She was surprisingly soft for being an oroniri woman; yet somewhat childish which can be explained due to her extremely young age.
Khashin really loved these few years with her. She was always nice to him –not as strict as his father- and after his daily work she would always set down with him to play for him on her Morin Khuur and also sing for him. Or, what she also loved to do, was to play hide-and-seek which often ended with her scolding her son for running too far away during their play. Yet this was that part of the day he was always looking forward to; these moments when he could laugh with his mother.
Her death when he was just scarcely six years old was a true shock for him. It was the last day when he had shed tears.
3. What is/was your character’s relationship with their father like? His father is well respected within the Oronir’s tribe – known for his formidable hunting skills and his archery. He was called a prodigy with the fine art of archery ever since a young age, albeit his hunting did not improve until he had already grown into a man. Nonetheless, albeit he is not the strongest, he has received the honor to be invited to the Dawn Throne. Suffice to say, his father had always been strict with Khashin. He had expected him to become as good in using the bow like he was – yet Khashin had no talent for it whatsoever. Unfortunately his father was blind for this very truth for very long; only frustrating his son and himself with his harsh training methods. Of course Khashin started to dislike the very usage of the bow very quickly, though he bore it until very late.
After the death of his mother and the birth of his younger sister, his father took over the responsibility to take care over her instead. Khashin, at this point already six years old, was expected to live on his own now. The boy often suffered hunger and wounds no one took care of – and his father never asked him for his well-being as well. In fact, considering how much of a disappointment Khashin had been as son until then, he was not allowed to get too close to his sister until he can prove himself worthy. Nonetheless Khashin never felt hatred towards his father, obeying to him. For the boy it sounded perfectly normal that his newborn sister required more attention; and naturally, as oroniri boy, he understood well enough that he had to become stronger.
Since Khashin proved to be completely worthless in the usage of the bow even many years later (partly the reason why he completely gave up on it), his father never spoke to him anymore. The relationship is still incredibly complicated.
4. Has your character ever witnessed something that fundamentally changed them? If so, does anyone else know?
Generally speaking, he had two of these moments who ‘changed’ him. His mother’s death had been quite traumatic to him, naturally – but it was not what ultimately changed him. It was the moment when he realized that he was no good but still had to struggle; the moment when he realized that he needed a complete different approach if he wants to keep his mother’s promise. This moment was when he was covered in mud laying in front of his entire tribe, defeated. They were not laughing, but their piercing eyes on him and the disappointment inside his father’s eyes is something he will never forget. He was twelve years old then.
The second moment was when he realized that he lost any feeling inside both of his hands. Before that point he had been relentlessly honed his skills, albeit he was still quite naïve to think that he could obtain true strength without sacrifices. After losing any feeling, however, noticing that he had completely worn out himself and broken his bones maybe too often, he started to care even less about himself. Before that point he was slightly egoistical, maybe, becoming selfless by not caring too much about himself, anyone’s opinion of him or whether he is alive or dead.
As Warrior of Light there were several of these moments. It is why I roleplay him differently compared to any other verse then; even his traveling one. Khashin, in his original-verse (Steppe) but also in his travelling lacks some compassion. Not that it is not there – because it is there – but he rarely shows it. He lacks a general kindness in his actions and words towards strangers, which is what he quickly changes as Warrior of Light, however. He sees too much pain, despair and regret along the way and wants to treat (most) people with kindness therefore.
5. On an average day, what can be found in your character’s pockets?Steppe/Traveling: He always has a knife to skin beasts. He never has too many things with him; not even in the traveling verse. WoL: He does not have too many different things on him as well. It highly depends on the timeline/area. Sometimes he carries a few potions with him to give it to other people who might need it.
7. Does your character have recurring themes in their nightmares?Khashin rarely does dream to begin with. As child he had them more frequently; and particularly after his mother’s death he would often see her pale, cold face in front of him. For a boy, who loved his mother above anything, this was truly a nightmare. As he became older, however, he was becoming used to rarely sleep at all and if only little. Mayhap due to this he was not truly able to dream at all; but his nightmares, if happening, are always a dark, pitch black pit he is falling in with his loved one’s faces fading.
10. Does your character feel more comfortable with more clothing, or with less clothing?Generally he does enjoy to wear little clothes. This is easily explained that he loves to have more freedom for his movements; often finding the clothes unfitting for his style of combat. Naturally he is most of time, particularly in the Steppe-verse which is often very cold as well, wearing clothes – but he often finds himself stripping at least his top for fighting.
17. What was your character’s favorite toy as a child?Like many children Khashin took a liking to ‘Ail ger’, a game played with only stones. Basically it is a ‘doll game’, just with stones. You place stones in a circle to represent the yurt and then play with the other stones accordingly. His mother often played this with him, often finding new, unique stones to add to their collection.
18. Is your character more likely to admire wisdom, or ambition in others? As someone who was born as Oronir, he highly values to have ambition. Without it none of them would become worthy of their Dawn Father’s radiance. Naturally this also applies to other people – even in his non-Steppe verses. Wisdom becomes more important to him once he left the Steppe, but it plays overall still a minor role unless he is WoL.
19. What is your character’s biggest relationship flaw? Has this flaw destroyed relationships for them before? His biggest flaw is probably the very fact that he is a quite jealous and possessive type of person. It is not that he forbids his partner to have super deep friendships with others or meeting them, not at all, but if he’s there he likes to ‘show’ who his partner truly belongs to. If someone touches his partner with the attempt of flirting with them, this person has to be prepared to face the consequences – which usually are broken bones. In fact Khashin becomes quite…intimidating, not to say scary, when it comes to chasing people away from them who might become romantically or sexually interested in his partner.
Since Khashin never had a relationship before, it was not an issue yet LOL.
24. How quick is your character to trust someone else?Trust is only proved by loyalty and actions over time. Particularly Steppe-Khashin does not easily trust people and they have to earn his trust first. He’s like this in his traveling-verse as well; in his Warrior of Light-verse he’s only for a little trusting everyone a bit more from the start.
25. How quick is your character to suspect someone else? Does this change if they are close with that person? He is, by nature, a semi-skeptical person to begin with. Since he does not get emotionally attached to anyone for extremely long, he is quite neutral and open to all ends. If actions prove as much, he will draw the natural conclusion and suspect someone. However, he is extremely loyal towards his friends and loved ones. Something extremely major needs to happen for him to suspect them then. He does not easily trust people to begin with, after all.
29. What did your character dream of being or doing as a child? Did that dream come true?He always wanted to become respected among the Oronir. This has yet to be fulfilled.
30. What does your character find repulsive or disgusting? There is barely anything he finds disgusting to begin with. Even things which most might find disgusting are fine with him, considering his background. He’s kinda tough in that sense.
34. Is your character more likely to keep trying a solution/method that didn’t work the first time, or immediately move on to a different solution/method?One has to know that Khashin is incredibly stubborn. If there is a door, he’ll use the wall at times instead. He will stick to his principles and methods, no matter what. Unless it really does not work his way – then he’ll adapt to different methods.
35. How does your character behave around people they like?Khashin is a really closed up person; he’ll more frequently talk about himself with people he likes. His arrogant façade is also dropping, at least a little, and he does show this extreme caring side of him he wasn’t before. Also, one will realize that his constant teasing is also a way to show his affection. Particularly since his way to tease people is slightly changing once he starts to like them.
36. How does your character behave around people they dislike? He’s literally arrogant asshole. And will threaten them.
40. How does your character treat people in service jobs? He’s not unfriendly to them. He in fact never is, not even to strangers – albeit this probably depends on how one interprets his arrogance and sass.
43. Has your character ever had a dependent figure who was not related to them?Esugen really helped him out when he was much smaller. When his mother died, Esugen was already a young man who was quite used to everyone belittling him. Fortunately he is  quite kind by nature, especially for an oroniri man, so he often took care for Khashin when no one else was. He was of course not able to replace the family Khashin had lost, but he will never forget his kindness.
44. How easy or difficult is it for your character to say “I love you?” Can they say it without meaning it?Khashin has an incredibly tough time to even fall in love with someone; let alone realizing that he is in love. This is not due to his oroniri beliefs, as one could assume – albeit, to admit as much, he had always thought that someday he will marry –but because he is also not looking for anyone. He does not waste any thoughts to this, which also shows that he merely has flings in his traveling/WoL-verses as well. This is by no means an intentional thought – as I said, he does not think about it – but he would consider himself quite unworthy of anyone as he is right now. In most verses, partly even in his WoL-verse, he still seeks strength. His life is dedicated to his tribe, his family – his sister to be precise; and unless he has proven that he is capable of protecting the remaining persons he loves, he will not waste too many thoughts about it. He also has literally zero experience when it comes to be or fall in love, so if it happens he will not realize it. To realize as much will take him the longest time ever as well.

My Thoughts and Feelings About Sephiroth (Part 3)
Well I did say I would make a third part if I had more in mind about Sephiroth. And much to my surprise, there is more! So here it is! Parts 1 and 2 can be found here so you can keep up just in case I mention anything from those posts:
My Thoughts and Feelings About Sephiroth (Part 1)
My Thoughts and Feelings About Sephiroth (Part 2)
Now this one will be a little different because I will include more about the portrayals I've seen throughout the Internet, my own opinions about them, and my own portrayal. Plus I will include the essay I wrote about him for one of my college courses and I might say random things about Sephiroth that I will discuss.
First will be the portrayals of Sephiroth I have noticed throughout the Internet. I will not attack any of these or offend anyone who has these headcanons. I respect everybody's headcanons, and it's a good thing too because being a jerk to anyone who has portrayals that are different from yours is stupid and a waste of time. I have friends whose portrayals are varied, and we don't fight over how Sephiroth should act. Love them, hate them, be neutral to them, just as long as you handle this in a mature manner.
Now I have mentioned the portrayal of Sephiroth where he's unnaturally hypersexual in part 1, so I will not go into detail about it anymore. It's already been done. Another one I will not discuss again is the mindless killing machine portrayal (mentioned in part 2). To those who do or like these portrayals, I dislike them but I will respect your choice.
Tumblr media
Now for the portrayals. The ones I really enjoy are the ones for his Crisis Core self (or pre-Nibelheim if you want to put it that way). As I have stated before, I can relate to his past personality, so I really like a lot of the headcanons. Picturing him, say, struggling to socialize, not knowing much of certain things (i.e. video games), spending time with friends, basically being human is heartwarming for me. I take it a lot of people like CC Sephiroth, and who wouldn't? There was this one story where Sephiroth took a liking to lemon drops, which is one thing I added to my own headcanon page on my blog. I found it rather sweet and cute. That's like me but with chocolate. I love chocolate. And then there's one where he has no idea what a sitcom is due to his sheltered upbringing, and it was pretty amusing to picture Genesis and Angeal trying to explain it to him as they watched TV. There are many others that I don't think I can list since there are so many of them, and for a lot of them, I like them. There's some that I don't, but that's just my personal opinion.
Now for the Sephiroth we all know after the Nibelheim Incident. Man, I'm beginning to remember what I've read. It's hard for me to find some portrayals that I like because the ones I've seen so far were unsettling. Sephiroth being a sadistic rapist is one of the worst ones I've seen so far. Not as in the stories are poorly written or something like that but for me, it's one of my least favorite portrayals. I get that he lost his mind, but I believe he wouldn't go that far. I wouldn't go that far with my own portrayal because it just makes me feel uncomfortable. Just thinking about it makes me uneasy.
I confess that I don't know my limits when it comes to portraying Sephiroth. For a long time, I've been trying to grasp his evil demeanor and I still hesitate to go further and struggle to get inside his head sometimes. So I don't know how far I can go with dark, twisted, cruel scenarios, but rape is one of my limits. I won't reveal the user, but I was recently asked if I could do necrophilia. When I got the question, I was speechless. That's another one of my limits. I really can't imagine Sephiroth being...intimate with a corpse. Much to my relief, they respected my opinion. And I like that. People should respect others because everyone has limits and if I have to force myself to write Sephiroth doing rape, acting all creepily intimate around Jenova, asphyxiation (as in the kink), or something that I don't see him doing, I won't enjoy the roleplays at all. I used to wish I could please everybody, but that's an impossible goal and I should keep in mind about what I want and don't want to do. Again, I don't know my limits too well, so if anyone wants to RP with me on my Sephiroth blog and it involves something that you're not sure if I accept or not, please message me. I'll try to get out of my comfort zone, but please respect my limits. If I don't do certain things, there are other Sephiroth blogs out there. It's simple and it will prevent pointless drama.
My portrayal for Sephiroth is close to his canon self but mixed with his CC side and my own headcanons. I try to stay close to canon as I write, and I silently read what I wrote and then read it out loud while picturing Sephiroth saying it. If what I wrote doesn't work, I revise them until they sound like Sephiroth. It's still not easy because I'm still struggling with his dark, insane, cruel self, the villain everyone knows and loves. One thing is certain is I do try my best to make him more human but still maintaining his character. I can't make him too human or else that ruins his cold and distant qualities, like making him fall madly in love with someone or bawling his eyes out. Now I haven't seen these examples anywhere, so I'm just throwing in random hypothetical headcanons here. The point is I do try my best not to make him too kind, soft, patient, you know, real nice or else that's not really Sephiroth. Lol But I also don't make him relentlessly cruel to the max 24/7. Both extremes aren't portrayals I like, so I am tackling middle ground. It's possible, and if others don't like my portrayal, that's fine, but they shouldn't judge me for it.

Since I'm discussing my own portrayal, I might as well explain other things about it. Let's see, he has interests outside of trying to destroy/conquer the world and messing with Cloud. My character is a loyal follower. Her profile isn't on my blog but her name is Maybelle Rose, and she's Sephiroth's love interest. Speaking of this, I make Sephiroth a bit of a Tsundere towards others, not necessarily involving romance like with Maybelle. He doesn't act like a stereotypical Tsundere, but he's a very, very subtle version.
Romance. Now this is something that might piss off so many, but I can picture him in a relationship. No, I'm not talking about Crisis Core Sephiroth. I mean post-CC. Say what you want, but I can see it. If done well, it can work. I don't like following the stereotype that villains are incapable of love. Some villains can truly be incapable of love, but not ALL villains. It's not mandatory. A friend of mine claims that Sephiroth is bland. Now I completely disagree with his opinion, but it did give me confidence in pursing romance regarding Sephiroth. Heroes are written as human beings, why not do the same for villains? That's what makes characters compelling, it makes them real. That's what I'm basically trying to do with Sephiroth, and as challenging as it may be at times and despite people probably going against this idea as they read this, I'll do it. My blog now allows shippings. Yes, I now accept shippings. I used to not accept them, but I changed my mind. My reasons are shown in my rant here:
Sephiroth Fandom Rant
Okay I know I said I wouldn't mention the hypersexual Sephiroth portrayal, but I might as well. If he were in a romantic relationship, he wouldn't be like that. Sephiroth doesn't get horny around everyone. Seriously, he's not a sex-obsessed maniac. Sephiroth is a private man with dignity and he would never act extremely sexual, let alone sexual in general. He would be intimate with his significant other, but it would be in a normal level and he would be intimate in private. And I must add that my portrayal does involve Sephiroth having kinks, but he's not sex-obsessed like I said. He has self-control and he keeps things private.
Now for the next thing. I wrote this essay over two years ago, and apparently I kept it after all this time. Lol Yes I wrote an essay about Sephiroth, back when I was still somewhat of a new fan. The assignment was to do a paper on a criminal, real or fictional, and diagnose them with specific personality disorders. However, it didn't mean that they HAD to have any of these disorders. We just had to show the instructor that we understood the material we have learned during class. Take a look at my essay here:
Essay on Sephiroth
Fun fact: My other choice for this assignment was Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. XD But Sephiroth was a better candidate and I was able to write more about him than I could have ever done about Gaston. Schizoid Personality Disorder and Antisocial Personality Disorder were two of the ten types of personality disorders that came close to Sephiroth's behavior. I don't consider either of these disorders as my personal headcanons for him. I honestly never did despite Schizoid PD being pretty close. And much to my shock, my instructor liked my paper and I wound up getting an A! I never got an A on any papers, so it felt amazing to finally get a grade that was higher than a C.
Speaking of psychology, one headcanon that's somewhere online is that Sephiroth has autism. Well, it is possible because I have a friend who is autistic, but during my research on this condition, I don't see Sephiroth as autistic. Sure some of his traits do seem to resemble signs and symptoms, but speculation isn't considered a confirmation that he has autism. He might have it but I would rather have Square Enix confirm it if he really is autistic. On another note, I do understand why they headcanon him as autistic. They relate to Sephiroth because some of his traits remind them of themselves. I get that and if they think he's autistic, that's okay with me. This headcanon is also given to Papyrus from Undertale and Pearl and Peridot from Steven Universe, so I'm familiar with this. Even L from Death Note is believed to be autistic. To be honest, I kind of believe it regarding L. That's just my opinion, though.
Tangent aside, courtesy of a friend, I am more intrigued by Sephiroth in a new level. Aside from his appearance and personality, his intelligence, the way he thinks has me curious. Yes I have been trying to get into his head to improve my portrayal, and I think I found a strategy. If I want to portray and act like Sephiroth, I have to think like him...in less destructive ways, might I add. Lol I may not be an expert as Sephiroth yet, but I'll get there. I've come this far on my blog, and I'm not throwing it all away.
Speaking of my Sephiroth blog, besides that it would be fun and such, I created my own blog because I wanted to express my passion for him. He's one of my role models that made me stronger and I just really admire him. And like I said, I knew I could connect with other fans. Sure, there's a toxic side of the fandom, but that won't stop me. I did feel offended several days ago, as mentioned in my rant, but I'm fine now. In addition to my reasons, I didn't start the blog for fame. Popularity isn't really a big deal for me, I just want to show everyone how much of a Sephiroth fan I am in creative ways. Besides, I found the thought of portraying Sephiroth a fun challenge considering he's my opposite, and he pretty much started my fascination for villains. I also made friends thanks to the blog, one of them being my best friend here on Tumblr. :)
Tumblr media
Now to finish this post with one more thing. When I was still a new Sephiroth fan, I confess that I tried to redeem him. Of course it was a difficult task to do for a story, and I admit I was determined to do it. However, as I kept going, I slowly realized doing this implied I didn't like him the way he is, the villain he is widely known as instead of what he used to be before discovering his origins. So I drifted away from redemption and focused on Sephiroth on who he is without changing him. Today, I love Sephiroth for who he is, cruel, cold, calculating, everything. Why change a character you're supposed to love? You wouldn't do that to a real-life partner, or anyone in general. Sephiroth wouldn't have liked me for trying to make him turn a new leaf. Lol So I never pursued redemption for him again. It was too hard anyway. It's like trying to redeem the Joker! That's how hard it was for me. So screw that mind-numbing task, Sephiroth should remain as the badass villain I have grown to love.
Well, this is it. For real this time! Lol This is my final part of the "My Thoughts and Feelings About Sephiroth" posts. I said everything I had to say about Sephiroth as I included all my thoughts, feelings, etcetera. I'm out of things to say about him, so no fourth post! XD If I ever have more Sephiroth-related comments that comes to mind, I'll just make small posts. Will I make more long posts like these? Perhaps. I had fun writing these posts. Maybe I can tackle other topics, or maybe talk about another character in detail. Well, see ya!

COMIC TEA PARTY- THURSDAY BOOK CLUB START!
Good evening, everyone~! This week’s Thursday Book Club is officially beginning! Today we are discussing Zenchav by Draco Plato~! (http://khyatix.com/)
Remember that Thursday discussions are completely freeform! However, every 30 minutes I will drop in OPTIONAL discussion questions in case you’d like a bit of a prompt. If you miss out on one of these prompts, you can find them pinned for the chat’s duration. Additionally, remember that while constructive criticism is allowed, our focus is fun and respectfully appreciating the comic. All that said, let’s begin!
QUESTION 1. What is your favorite scene in the comic so far and why?
Draco Plato
hmmmm
flips through chapters quickly
RebelVampire
just say all the scenes cause as the creator its the one time you can get away with it XD
Draco Plato
I'm sure I have a favorite
shiz everything exists on a neutral plan of emotion
RebelVampire
for my favorite scene im gonna pick that time everyone was pursued by spiky chia pets and oziel and ara argued to the point damian snapped his finger at them and told them to focus.
Draco Plato
I was leaning towards that myself too
RebelVampire
damian did what we all wanted to do deep down in that moment
Draco Plato
yeeeeeah
I love the finger snap
I always enjoy drawing the damon and lyall scenes the most
I like chapter 14 but I think it was a bit hurried seeming overall.
I picked up the pace for webcomic time but I think I should have slowed it down a bit there
that was my favorite chapter to draw recently tho cause damon and lyall
Kabocha
I think... My favorite scene is a toss up. I really liked Nadia and Damon's meeting -- Damon's priorities are basically mine: "OOO SPARKLY" http://khyatix.com/Zenchav/Volume1/ZenchavVolume1#p=98 But I also really liked how crushed Damon was when he burnt up Liberty's body. http://khyatix.com/Zenchav/Volume3/ZenchavVolume3#p=157 Can't do anything else? Well, at least I can make sure nobody asks too many questions right~?
Draco Plato
aaaaaaaaaaaaah
I have so many mixed feelings about damon burning his daughter's body
like was that a GOOD decision? it's so morbid
I always get a laugh out of that
Kabocha
It felt pretty emotional
and yessss
I really like the first volume a lot, to be honest. The art in it has a lot of character which helps the black and white pop
Draco Plato
yeah I agree! Whenever I re-read it I think the early chapters actually have a lot of charm to them
I used to be really bothered by the flaws but that doesn't really bother me now
Kabocha
Yeah They're cute! And... Damon was... very angsty in volume 2's start
Draco Plato
hahah his brief gangster look
RebelVampire
it was nice to see damon grow up from an innocent boy into angst rage machine into hi everyone im stay at home dad who makes jam
Kabocha
it is pretty fun when you get very... uh... ...I don't know the term but when you pull the expressions pretty far and make them somewhat more cartoony
Draco Plato
yeah! I agree. I think I pushed limits a bit more in the earlier chapters. Honestly I think my disdain for drawing shines through too much now
I mean, it all looks great, lmao
Kabocha
"Oh, I like it when you touch me" -- Sayeth Lyall, volume 2, page 12
Draco Plato
Aaaaaaaaaaah, I feel so awkward about those early scenes
where lyall's feelings start shining through
Kabocha
Lyall honestly just needs anyone's affection
RebelVampire
another scene i like is http://khyatix.com/Zenchav/Volume3/ZenchavVolume3#p=42 where damon and lyall are flirting sort of and rex just shows hes watching and hes very bored. i think it was a great way to bring rex back in while also paying off on all that tension buildup of him coming back.
Draco Plato
he just needs damon's affection
Kabocha
...Damon's hair is also kinda kelpie-ish, so I meaaaaaaaan
Draco Plato
yeah I liked that scene too!! and that's true, I hadn't thought he looked a bit like kelpie there
I'm kinda with what Dark said about wtf is going on with his hair in chapter 5
like yep, that's why it lasted a very short time that look
oh i remember my fave scene now
Kabocha
What did Dark say?
Draco Plato
i need to find it
she wasn't a fan of the chapter 5 damon hair, which I agree with since I'm not a fan of it either
Kabocha
I don't dislike it, he just seems very... ...high stress right now
RebelVampire
i like to think damon's early life is characterized by phases. you got the angst phase, the emo phase, the cute kid phase, the weird flirt with your uncle phase
Kabocha
all business, no play
Draco Plato
there it is, the scene that always haunts me in re reads
oh that's true Rebel, it very much is
Kabocha
cough There's inappropriate jokes that one could make about coming in handy
But I'm not going to make them tonight
Draco Plato
I just...that line in retrospect is so BAD
Kabocha
But it's Lyall~
Draco Plato
i think that's the only time he really had pedo bear vibes
maybe not the only but the biggest
Kabocha
http://khyatix.com/Zenchav/Volume2/ZenchavVolume2#p=38 This page, Lyall's like... "This woman's going to kill me, Damon, and everyone in this neighborhood"
Draco Plato
there's also that time
Kabocha
What does Nadia do, anyway? Is she actually a mob boss? I know she's gonna be different in the upcoming video, but... >:D
Draco Plato
Lyall thinking she's a homewrecker there ruining his chance at future happiness as Damon's husbando
Yeah she's the head of her mafia
her backstory is actually the same as the animated version but without the interference
https://youtu.be/gGdGFtwCNBE
that's my song for lyall in chapter five
Kabocha
"I feel like I've known her" -- "Oh, yeah, last time around, she tried to kill you a buncha times, and I heard she's gonna do it again."
Draco Plato
wheeeeezes
Kabocha
"Also, she's your sister. Or will be. Different lives and all."
Draco Plato
It just gets worse
#TrueLove
Kabocha
I wonder what their entanglements were like in previous lives >:D
RebelVampire
you know what other scene i like? this scene http://khyatix.com/Zenchav/Volume2/ZenchavVolume2#p=48 where lyall tells damon he didnt love liberty. partly cause it was cute seeing damon be this angsty adult and get hit with the reality stick in such a way hes still little boy shocked that this is a thing that could happen. and it was also nice cause lyall revealed something in an angry outburst and thus one more truth was added to the truth pile
Draco Plato
i really should have made a chart for Nadia's lives, the main one I know that has her and Damon together before that life is when she was Lili's sister
Oh Oh I like that scene too!!
Kabocha
I would be interested in seeing Lili's sister
and aaaaaaaaaaaaa, yes. Lyall: Truth teller in bad situations
Draco Plato
I can always feel a mini heart attack when Lyall says he didn't love her
cause I know how much that hurts damon
Kabocha
"you made my mother a whore and you didn't even CARE?"
Draco Plato
Lili's sister doesn't have much to her, she married Muir at the same time as Lili but ended up leaving and letting Lili and Muir be alone
Damon was too pure then, lol(edited)
he was really hung up on the sleeping with his mom thing for a long time
Kabocha
I can't blame him, especially if he thought it was gonna damn Liberty to hell
but nope, just ends up with her coming back one day as a cute smol girl
Also... Lyall has no last name. JUST TAKE DAMON'S! nau
Where did the nickname Sha come from by the way?
Draco Plato
actually why didn't he take Liberty's last name
Oh!!! Lol nobody has ever asked before
She wanted to call him a shark but he lacks the bite so she dropped the k
looking back on this nickname it doesn't make much sense lmao
I think it originates from an earlier version that made more sense
RebelVampire
i like to think that lyall not taking a last name was his way of rejecting the permanence of their situation. but also not having a last name sounds helpful when in the mob. "Hey Joe you gonna kill that Lyall fellow we were ordered to kill?" "Which Lyall?" "I don't know man. Let's just pick one."
Draco Plato
truuuuue
altho how common a name is Lyall
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
"but joe theres like 20 other lyalls" "just kill them all"
Draco Plato
LOL
omg XD
Kabocha
It soon became the great Lyall purge of 1930
Draco Plato
Lyall: I don't have a last name because I'm waiting to marry you and take yours
Kabocha
Lyall probably used that pickup line a few times
"I don't have a last name, but why don't I borrow yours for the night~?"
Draco Plato
ffffft
sadly i don't think that's one he'd use since it's rather personal to him
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
also i'm not sure what y favorite scene is theres a lot of them lol
Draco Plato
it's okay, my mind went blank too
and I should know all the scenes
Kabocha
pick a volume, flip through, find your favorite
Draco Plato
i know cali's fave
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
which one
LMAO
RebelVampire
QUESTION 2. As shown in the comic, Apus has been going on quite a recruiting spree. How do you think Damian will adjust to his new life situation, especially after what happened? How will Damian deal with Damon joining the Demon Council? What do you think the story is with Firosofi and Euripides? Will they adjust to their life there and will the others adjust to them? Will recruiting Draco go smoothly, or will matters be complicated because of Draco’s situation with B.I.T.E.? What do you think is up with Earth suddenly recruiting so many demons and non-humans all at once? Lastly, do you think Amai will learn to do field work, and how might it change her?
Draco Plato
i'mma delete that one for gore tho
Kabocha
Damian's going to angst a lot when he finds out his dad's on the Demon council. And then be like "MY FATHER BETRAYED US" And worry a lot. And continue to be grumpy until he becomes older Damian.
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
i feel like damian will go crazy and become numb to all the weirdness
and then take wizard drugs
become damon
Kabocha
But also they're just gonna ship him off to the future to hang out with his dad, soooo
Draco Plato
i feel like these questions would have been good for me to ponder before writing
OoO spoils Damian's immediate future, lolol
Kabocha
Ooop, Damian, you're gonna sleep with that hot bird-brained nurse~
Draco Plato
why is the Earth recruiting all these people, I just figured apus was understaffed
aaaaaah that spoiler!!!
their romance took a flight
Kabocha
It definitely did... You could say their hearts fluttered like little wings
Draco Plato
Vivi was born from a little egg
not that it's relevant but it's cute
RebelVampire
i like to think Earth just felt like it. was bored and said "you know what would be funny? is if i put all these demons at apus and force the people i 'hired' to get along with them. this sounds like a fun social experiment."
Draco Plato
I mean I feel that's about as hard as she thought about it
but now I feel I should think of a good reason and make it seem like I had something deep behind it
Kabocha
Vivi was born from an egg, eh? :3
I'm kind of curious now
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
plot twist, apus is just earth's ant farm but with people and demons
Draco Plato
yuuuuuus
omg XD
anytime someone mentions an antfarm I remember the one my bro had, where all the ants came dead except one and that one ant worked hard to bury all the other ants(edited)
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
rip ant
burying it's brethren
Draco Plato
antfarms are SAD
just burying all your dead kin
symbolically damon will be the ant
and we'll pretend this was a metaphor
Kabocha
Apus as an ant farm? I guess The Earth hasn't changed. She's just gonna try to burn it next time Damon shows up
Draco Plato
nah tho, Apus is meant to protect the earth
probably
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
maybe
we just dont know
Draco Plato
but she allows the demon council too
and is an aid to rex
so the earth plays both teams
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
news reporter interviews the earth "Miss earth? why did you create apus?" "lol idk i just wanted to"
RebelVampire
ya know consider earth talks to both sides, its more like these are her little play soldiers and she got more from the store so she could have an epic battle.
Kabocha
Cadence got her planet in the end
Draco Plato
baaaasically
her being the earth is totally karma for having made a planet
and not being it's planet seed
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
i just imagined like a fight going on and someone jumping at someone
but in realityits just earth throwing one of her play soldiers at another one
Kabocha
She doesn't seem to hate it at least. She's probably like, "heh, I'll show you whose Karma fucked them up"
Draco Plato
muahahaha
I think the rational was that she wanted to see which side would win out
the planet itself is neither good nor evil, a neutral party
if a planet becomes totally good or totally evil it will end
because it must exist within duality
so that makes me think her ultimate goal would be to make it either totally good or totally evil so that it can die
since that would be freedom in a sense for her soul
Yes, beautiful, perfect earth
she don't care which time wins, just so long as someone does
Kabocha
YEP
she finally got it
a shame Samantha couldn't think big tho
Draco Plato
so much of Soul Hymn is still in the air tbh, especially with Sam
Kabocha
unless she's working with Decebal...
Draco Plato
cause I thought it'd be fun to make her more of an important baddie
Kabocha
"Yeah, I'll let you be the planet seed if you help me out*
Draco Plato
fffffft, being a planet seed is the last thing she wants
Kabocha
Sam wasn't really listening, she heard "You get a planet"
Draco Plato
it may be fun if sam is an antagonist to both erik and decebal
since if she regains her powers she'd be quite a formidable foe
RebelVampire
maybe lets bring the topic back to zenchav at this point XD
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
"you get a planet and you get a planet"
Draco Plato
Decebal becomes Oprah
Damian will not be pleased Damon joined the DC
nope
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
but hey he gets to spend time with his daddy
i guess
Draco Plato
I actually don't know if they'll ever meet face to face during that time tho
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
O_O
damon and rex i mean
lmao
Draco Plato
LOL
Damon is so happy about that, yeeeeah
RebelVampire
my question implied damian adjusts at all. which i would argue damian doesnt adjust to anything. just sits in eternal grump land.
hey
damon got new clothes already
id say thats a great dad
Draco Plato
LOL you make an excellent point Rebel
but they're not blue see, they have to be blue, so he's sad
Kabocha
Question: Will we get to see Mr. Philosophy get a sword
Draco Plato
Yes!
Kabocha
YES
Draco Plato
Firo has two swords
RebelVampire
i think Amai will be fine with field work cause firo can do all the heavy lifting metaphorically speaking. or ya know he could sip tea and wave at her from afar
Draco Plato
Firo actually can't kill anyone because it would be too kind a death for them
Kabocha
Then he gets to be mad at Dakin and Amai all the time :3
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
one to put jam on his toast and the other to poke things
Draco Plato
this is true, firo will do way more heavy lifting than Amai
buuuuut Amai will probably have plant powers like Dakin
which wasn't in the story originally so tentatively she'll be a bit more bad ass when she awakens to that
firo doesn't get mad
RebelVampire
by that implication amai doesnt know she has the plant powers?
Draco Plato
if firo gets mad that's gotta be something really really bad
nah Amai thinks she has no powers atm
she's been very sheltered
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
would he get mad if someone cut him off on the freeway
Kabocha
bwahahahaha
Draco Plato
No O_O
Kabocha
WHAT
he is inhuman!
Draco Plato
He got mad once as a kid tho
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
say if it isnt so
Draco Plato
kid cut off his ponytail
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
off with his head
Draco Plato
yus O_O you don't touch Firo's hair
but he probably wouldn't get mad at that now
but there is a time when he will get mad
maybe more than one
Kabocha
He didn't even get mad when his life was threatened, so
I mean
he's a pretty chill dude
RebelVampire
will it be at damon for damon being a little rex puppet murderer?
Kabocha
I almost wrote "Chill dad" and then I was like
"naaaaaaaaaah"
Draco Plato
oh firo having his life threatened was like a tuesday, no biggie
nah he won't get mad at damon
EveryoneLovesDamon
RebelVampire
Firo: I'm not mad at you, Damon. Just disappointed.
Draco Plato
YES!
that'll happen
Damon: But I looooove him father
/shot
RebelVampire
damon goes home and rex tells him the same thing, that hes not mad, just disappointed. only then rex kills some kid or something.
Draco Plato
Rex just makes Damon's wounds heal slower
when he's mad at him
RebelVampire
you know
thats a lot more tame then i realistically expected
good on rex
Kabocha
sorry, I got distracted reading OoO again
Poor Damian
Draco Plato
yeah, damon is the fave
RebelVampire
slightly less of a jackass than he couldve been
Draco Plato
ffffft, that's a good reason to get distracted, lol
Rex to damon's other siblings is pretty swift to kill
so they have to tip toe a lot more
I think Damian is pretty lucky
got to go to school in the future, meet all those kooky people
damian at apus is interesting tho since there's more reasons than just damon at the DC he's sour about
RebelVampire
on the otherhand, he got to go to school and meet all those kooky people and deal with a huge jump in technology and his dad being a wizard. it may perhaps contribute to the grump.
you mean like liberty being dead O_O
Draco Plato
nervous laughter
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
shes fine
its just jam
RebelVampire
QUESTION 3. In recent events, Damon has been forced by his father to join the Demon Council. What activities do you think Damon will be doing for the Demon Council? Will Damon manage to fit in there, or will he stick out too much? Will he at least be able to get along with his new sister Theia? As time passes, do you think Damon will come to agree with Rex’s ideals? Or, do you think he’ll stay steadfast in his own beliefs? Do you think Damon will find out Damian is alive and with Apus? How might this change his actions in the future? Also, how might his relationship with Lyall change him? Do you think Rex will keep his promise of not hurting Lyall? Finally, will Damon reconnect with Purusha’s life to escape the darkness?
Kabocha
wait, I'm mis-remembering things... Who is Dakin's dad XD
Draco Plato
Firosofi
Amai is his mom
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
firosofi more like
Draco Plato
sorta
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
firosofty
Draco Plato
it's complicated
wheeps
was so surprised when there was a Firo in Baccano
https://tenor.com/view/firo-playing-baccano-gif-11864371
RebelVampire
#spoilers
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
i think rex will make damon think hes gonna make him do really bad stuff, but he just makes him sit down and play chess all day
Draco Plato
Rex: Damon, I want you to be the greatest chess master to ever live. Damon: Father....I hate to break it to you but that's never going to happen, I'm an idiot.
damon can probably play chess
RebelVampire
maybe damon will get super good at chess cause chess is half just about remembering the patterns and knowing the best move for each pattern.
and damon can make little dresses for the chess pieces
Draco Plato
ffffft
Kabocha
Lyall would make very pretty chess pieces
Draco Plato
Lyall is very good at chess
Kabocha
Damon would make them regal clothing, befitting their stations in life
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
rex walks in sees his chess set all mangled with pretty dresses
Draco Plato
damon says plz he's not that much of a loser
weeps
I think Damon's ideals already died long ago
he mostly just wants to not die and not have Lyall die
probably
Kabocha
he'll get better one day
Draco Plato
when he goes insane
What will damon be doing at the DC ponders
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
eat donuts
Draco Plato
a mystery
RebelVampire
hes gonna make up for lost time. go on fishing trips with rex. fight over a stuffed animal with theia, etc. etc.
Draco Plato
Damon can't taste donuts tho
€heshire777
Nggh, I missed it
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
plot twist DC means donut council
Draco Plato
omg XD
€heshire777
Oops
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
yer right on time cheshire
Draco Plato
oh yeah, him and Theia will wrestle all right
RebelVampire
we still have an hour left to go
€heshire777
Too bad I didn't read all of it...
Draco Plato
that's okay~!
it is 400 something pages
€heshire777
I usally do tho
Ah well
Draco Plato
no worries~
Kabocha
Well, that's fine Cheshire! You can chime in about what you did read
or are you just here to talk about how much you didn't?
€heshire777
I'll talk! I confess!
Kabocha
https://giphy.com/gifs/the-simpsons-excellent-mr-burns-8fen5LSZcHQ5O
So, I think it'll be interesting going forward, to see what happens more with Firo and his buddies -- mostly because I read the original draft once upon a time, and Amai is very dear to me. XD I wanna see her do more stuff! Yell at her mom! Ask Pavonis why he's such a stick in the mud
RebelVampire
its also fine to just live read and comment your feelings as you read, @€heshire777 ~!
Draco Plato
awwww, I'll make sure to put her in more knowing that ;3;
Kabocha
So uh, is Pavo's original... backstory... still valid
Draco Plato
yus I think so
Kabocha
wherein he was so in love with Earth and...
cackle
RebelVampire
you cant just ask pavo why he's a stick in the mud. mostly because i expect itll wind up like that time he tried to explain apus to damian and damian was just like "whaaaaat"
Draco Plato
he lived in ancient greece sometime
LOL
Pavonis: You know what, you're clearly not going to get this, go see the nurse
Kabocha
Pavonis has no middle ground either. Either he's with Earth and Apus, or he's a demon, helping Rex commit atrocities.
Draco Plato
pavonis has a really really thin line between good and evil
pavonis would be evil for the earth
he wouldn't second guess it
Kabocha
http://khyatix.com/Zenchav/Specials/ZenchavSpecials#p=64 I see you, Sotiris (http://khyatix.com/world <- see the dark reddish brown-life)
Draco Plato
loooooool
i really like that special
and it's plot based too
but sotiris looks like a freakin chef there
I keep wanting to do more with Minos, now that they're at the DC I'm hoping I can have him show up
RebelVampire
i do think thats the best of the specials. just cause it was nice to see lyall before he became a bitter old house wife who was jilted by rex.
yes
do that
cause with this special in mind i want to see minos and lyall interact
Kabocha
Yeah! I wanna see what's happened to Minos -- Rex didn't kill him for that but I do wonder what he'd have done to him
RebelVampire
cause for lyall its been eons, for minos probably not that many eons
Draco Plato
yeah!! it actually hasn't been that long for Minos since lyall was pregnant with rex's kids
before then Lyall and Minos used to whore around together
Kabocha
Rex disappears for a few minutes, comes back with Lyall and an extremely scarred Damon
Draco Plato
i mean they never slept with each other but they'd pick up women together
YEP
It's actually probably been a few years since Theia got there
but between rex dropping lyall off and picking damon up that's probably a few days at the DC
if Rex bothered to wait, which I think he did cause he changed his clothes
but in one of my stories that may just be an hour later
Kabocha
Rex goes to get some tea
remembers, "Oh yeah, I should pick up Lyall."
Draco Plato
and change my clothes while I'm at it :>
/shot
that's just damon tho
probably
altho rex is pretty fashionable
Kabocha
Hehehe
So anyway, there's reincarnations, time travel shenanigans, and lots and lots of suffering for Damon.
RebelVampire
the changing clothes is just part of their genes. encoded on their dna.
Kabocha
And we're just getting started
Draco Plato
Lyall can do that
he often makes clothes with his powers
since he can make any organic material so he makes it soft like fabric
RebelVampire
maybe its a rule in the DC. no outfit is allowed to be worn for over 3 hours.
Draco Plato
nah, that's the rule in OoO
7 times damon?!?
if it's a joke nobody will blame the creator for clothing ADD
RebelVampire
i wonder if therell be a love triangle between damon, lyall, and minos.
Kabocha
Oh my
Draco Plato
Oh nooooooo
minos is an asshole so probably not
amongst other reasons
but alternatively will sotiris and theia ever have a thing
Kabocha
https://giphy.com/gifs/jaw-drop-oooooh-6FymBmqKeBrl6
Draco Plato
I honestly don't know atm
RebelVampire
well theyd at least be a sexy pairing
and lyall could make "hey stop touching my daughter maybe" faces
Kabocha
Having read Out of Order, I kind of can't wait to find out about how Damon and Claire meet in this life. I've heard rumors that it is ... bordering on "not good"
Draco Plato
oooooooh, it's fun!
I really like randolph and claire at apus
they were actually with each other longer than they were with damon
not as a couple of course
and Damian is older than both of them, lolol
well maybe not randolph, i dunno, it's a toss up
RebelVampire
one day after many people die, damian will sit there going "wait a second im the older person here"
Kabocha
Randolph and Claire were a duo?
Draco Plato
oh gawd no
but they both worked at Apus together
Claire was raised there from age 13 and Randolph took care of security
Randolph had his own room that he stayed in almost exclusively but people have to visit him cause he's the techno master
uh room being where all his security systems are
claire was a field worker though
so basically claire and damian would visit him and bicker
RebelVampire
QUESTION 4. An ominous tone seems to be setting in on the future. What do you think Pavonis meant in saying that Firosofi’s arrival signaled “certain things were set into motion?” Does it have something to do with the declaration of war that Oziel claimed recruiting Damian would be? Is it something else entirely that has more to do with Firosofi, Damon, or someone else? Of the characters we’ve met, who in Apus and who in the Demon Council do you think will clash first? What do you think will happen? Overall, do you think the conflicts between Apus and the Demon Council will ever be solved? As a last bonus, what time periods do you think we’ll see in the comic considering it involves time travel?
Kabocha
Firosofi's going to take over the story soon, and we're gonna see him go face down his destiny... And reclaim his last name...
X
..................No?
RebelVampire
wait wait
this is why lyall didnt have a last name
theyre going on the quest together
Kabocha
Firosofi X and Lyall WHY
Draco Plato
fffffffffft
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
and something Z
Draco Plato
will they ever even meet
who knows
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
o wait zenchav
Draco Plato
muahahah
what time periods would people want to see
Kabocha
There we go. The mysteries of the plot, explained.
Draco Plato
i have some up in the air atm
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
cavemen
Draco Plato
LOL
dies
Kabocha
I'd honestly like to see some mid-2000s Damon. Baggy jeans, Anime hair... Debating who's better: Trunks or Vegeta
Draco Plato
That we will see!!
already in there
Kabocha
(It's totally Trunks, by the way.)
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
damon: ugga ugg lyall: ugga ugga damon: ugh >_>
€heshire777
Steampunk Damon
Draco Plato
I do love trunks but i love vegeta too
steampunk would be pretty awesome
I think I can do that
Kabocha
Damon WOULD go for a Steampunk aesthetic
Draco Plato
he totally would
He's going to have a hell of a motorcycle collection, lol
Kabocha
Next world they go to in OoO will be a steampunk world, totally
Draco Plato
Claire's original clothing aesthetic was supposed to be steampunk too
but it looked too out of place
that'd be good for OoO tho, i'll think about it for that
cause I have it kind of wide open atm for where it's going
oh I know where i can fit steampunk into Zen
muahahah
€heshire777
Goth
RebelVampire
i cant think of a good time period so im just gonna go with ancient egypt. where someone can sneak into a tomb and write a message in the hopes it confuses the heck out of future archaeologists
Draco Plato
goth will be in the animated version!
ancient egypt would be interesting, I hadn't considered that
i remember an older version I had them live in ancient persia for awhile
Kabocha
YES
Ancient Persia would be awesome!
€heshire777
Chinese?
Kabocha
Some of the clothing they have in pseudo-historical Bollywood films... it's so pretty
Draco Plato
Chinese would be good too!! I was just appreciating their clothing the other day
true!!!
Damon will go to india at one point
Kabocha
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7K4vGYL9zI Allow me to share this song with you
Draco Plato
!!!! I LOVE THAT SONG
that actor does such a good job in that movie too
RebelVampire
thats good damon gets to go to india. i think it will suit him ;3;
€heshire777
Caveman?
Kabocha
It also fits the overall reincarnation theme, too, I think
Draco Plato
cavemen would be so weird XD
€heshire777
I like weird
RebelVampire
if lyall went with him, cavemen would murder him cause thats 0 tech zone
Draco Plato
oh yeah, that's right Firo is from India too
Lyall says that sounds like where Rex would send him
€heshire777
Ok, and lost you again...
Kabocha
Firosofi's one of the recently introduced characters -- he's more clearly introduced here: http://khyatix.com/Zenchav/Volume3/ZenchavVolume3#p=63
€heshire777
That's just about where I'm at
Draco Plato
oh yeah~!
he's also Haranasa
€heshire777
If you say so...
Kabocha
Well, Draco would be the one to say so... as the creator
RebelVampire
are we going to get to see oziel more? i need more oziel spunk in my life.
Kabocha
http://khyatix.com/Zenchav/Volume3/ZenchavVolume3#p=80
Draco Plato
coughs I'm honestly not sure what Oziel's future is in the story atm
but I can add him more if you want
I know some other people liked him too
ah both names at once there, lolol
€heshire777
Who was that again? (edited)
RebelVampire
more i just think theres potential between him and damian. cause of the whole ya know, you got my sister murdered
Draco Plato
that fellow is oziel
€heshire777
ah
He's cool
Draco Plato
yeah I agree Rebel, I've been thinking that should be explored more too
I always like Oziel's hair
Kabocha
I like Ara better
Draco Plato
fun fact he was in a wheelchair for a portion of his life
Kabocha
and I wanna know what the fuck Ara did to get his future lives the way he did XD
Draco Plato
LOL
Kabocha
(But this... is not... in Zenchav yet... I'm speaking partly about stuff that I know that is... spoilers...)
OK Draco, Draco
Draco Plato
Ara ara ara, ahahah
Kabocha
if you could pick one character that's not Damon to make super sparkly
who would you choose
Draco Plato
Firo~
€heshire777
Atlantis would be cool
Draco Plato
Firo was originally the main
Atlantis is a great idea
yeah I can use atlantis
Kabocha
atlantis would be cool
€heshire777
I'll just keep suggesting stuff as long as you'll let me
Moon base
Draco Plato
loooooool, would be too sailor moon
Kabocha
DRACO I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE SO MUCH COOL STUFF
Draco Plato
awwwwww ;3;
I really want more firo now

€heshire777
Norse?
Viking era?
Draco Plato
That's a good idea too, I could do that
I used to love Norse mythology
altho marvel kinda eeeeehed me a bit to it
even tho i like marvel
€heshire777
Yeah. same
Marvel nut
Draco Plato
me too
well....I haven't read all the comics
cause there's ALOT
€heshire777
Oop, cell service
Bye
RebelVampire
i was just about say draco, youre gonna be stuck drawing firo for quite a while now in this upcoming arc.
XD
Draco Plato
laters, Cheshire :3
Not as much as I'd like cause he mostly stands in the BG
which means I'll cut him out of panels a lot for drawing time
buuuut I think the chapter after he really stands out
and tbf shading his hair sucks so much
RebelVampire
this almost sounds creepy. draco and amai talking in the forefront, firo just in the background of the shot smiling at the reader all the time, as if to say i see you.
Draco Plato
that'd be so in character for Firo XD
this is why he can't be the MC
actually I think most of it is Draco talking to his peeps tho
buuuuuut
I dunno maybe I'll add in more firo
cause him just standing there in the BG of chapter 13 was kinda lame too
RebelVampire
maybe he and draco can at least share a warm hug
CalimonGraal(Fenauriverse)
i wanna see them hug
:y
Draco Plato
>w> well that will probably happen
draco can leap onto him in a bear hug
Kabocha
Hugs for everyone!
RebelVampire
i cannot picture this bear hug. although i can picture euri and amai being like wtf

In defense of alignments
I avoid homebrew systems. I’m more than happy to sit down for homebrew settings, or accept any limitations you wish to introduce, but as soon as you begin tweaking with or adding mechanics, I’m out. Further, I will not touch your heartbreaker with my standard issue ten-foot pole.
Mostly because I prefer systems designed to be as intuitive as possible,[1] as simple and user friendly as possible, and so adding new mechanics, mostly only noted down for the GM’s eyes, so I don’t even have a standard issued reference book.[2]
Also, most of the time, the presented selling points are either:
Hey! I fixed the magic system![3] Hey! I fixed/got rid of the alignment system!
On that last point… well, fair play if you just ditched it. I personally like it, but plenty of systems function perfectly fine without it.
Still, the odd vitriol felt for alignments always confused me. It’s possibly a feeling grandfathered in by grognards and outdated GMing philosophies, which deserves to be challenged and considered.
I believe the biggest misunderstanding is simply thus:
Alignments are a starting point and basic reference for a character’s motives, not the be all end all of them.
Like introducing someone as a vegetarian, it just gives a general thrust of their personality, but they probably possess more depth than not liking meat.[4]
There’s a reason alignment is kept in the same box as Name, Race, and Class: they’re important to know, but it’s flexible trivia.
Yes, my character may be a rogue, but Trix has never stolen a thing. She’s a stage magician.
Alignment does have a few mechanical components, but such spells only tell you what team they’re generally on.
Besides, it’s always a super fun discussion topic to debate where characters fall on the chart.[5]
Just because a character is Lawful Good doesn’t necessarily mean they’re unmovable goody-goodies.
I mean, take Sam Vimes as an example. He’s a man that believes in Law, with a capital L, and is steadfast in bringing justice the proper way, even when other means are simpler. Yet he is rough and tumble, very suspicious of those around him, and believes, at all times, that deep down he is not a good person, despite every action showing otherwise. He is a Lawful Good Character that is conflicted and complex.
Heck, Even Captain Carrot Ironfoundersson, a near textbook goody-goody, who resolves child gang conflicts by introducing them to football and a ridiculous scouting set up, still has a sense of cunning to him. He memorizes the law book, to the punctuation, and thus knows it well enough to exploit Exact Words.
The best advice I’ve heard about playing a paladin, the paragon of Lawful Good, is not to play them as men avoiding the breaking of their vows and falling. The best way to play a Paladin is with the knowledge that, as with apples and birds, even those with a higher purpose must someday descend. The question isn’t If they’ll fall, but When. The paladin must always be asking themselves ‘Is this the cause worthy of me sacrificing my powers and position?’
Maybe they’ll be lucky, and the answer is always no, and they reach their ends days as a paladin.
But they must always be ready to consider it. The final weapon in the Paladin’s arsenal.
AD&D instituted a vow of poverty on paladins not as a limitation, but to tell the player that, hey, your character can’t put their own glory and profit above the cause. They serve their god and the people, willing to sacrifice what’s necessary, including their very Paladinship.
Returning to the broad concept of alignments: with the right consideration, alignments don’t even limit a character’s narrative role.
One of literature’s most famous antagonists is arguably Lawful Good: Inspect Javert. ((the song “Stars” is an example of a wrong-thinking paladin, and is thus beautiful)) Heck, Javert could be played as a wrong-thinking paladin, and still be impressive. At least, based off my knowledge gleaned from the Movie and the 25th Anniversary concert of Le Mis.
Javert’s main belief is that law is the only path. Now, that may sound like Lawful Neutral (and I admit is a valid reading), but his solo, “Stars”, makes it very clear that Javert equates abiding the law with being a good and pious person. He doesn’t follow the law because there’s no other way, he champions the law because he views it as wholly good.
It’s why Javert takes Valjean as his nemesis. Valjean is a scofflaw, lies his way to power, and flees the law. A good man, Javert believes, wouldn’t do such things. It’s only after several chance encounters, over the course of years, maybe decades, for Valjean’s true nature to be crystal clear to Javert.[7]
Because, until their final encounter, Javert could always be suspicious. Always know that Valjean’s morally good acts must have some devious intentions. Valjean becomes a mayor for power. Adopts the daughter of a dead woman as a cover or to con money from people. He’s at the barricades because he’s an anarchist.
It’s only when, alone with one another, and Valjean being able to kill Javert without any possible repercussions, able to rid himself of the one man who knows Valjean’s history and will not cease hunting him when possible, that the truth becomes clear. With nothing to gain, and when it is tactically disadvantageous, Valjean spares Javert.
And Javert’s realization that law and goodness can be independent of one another shocks Javert so deeply, so thoroughly, that Javert can no longer bare to live. His Lawful Good alignment is so core to him, that he ceases once it breaks.[8]
Javert is solidly Lawful Good.
In Pratchett’s Night Watch, as it is subtly parodying Les Miserables, Sam Vimes is essentially cast broadly as Javert, taking only the barricade from Valjean. This is because, as a Lawful Good Character, Vimes can only don the boots of another Lawful Good character.
Comparing Javert and Vimes also showcases a nice bit of fidelity to the alignment system: how the character internally defines the terms, and how resolutely they hold it.
Javert believes Good comes from the Law. When the two are opposed, Javert’s rigid beliefs allow him to only crumble.
Vimes believes the Law serves the Good. When they are opposed, the Law must be redefined to support Good.
So, when building a character, maybe consider how an atypical alignment might feed into story roles.
Admittedly, it’s hard to make a Chaotic Evil hero. I can think of no perfect examples, with only Belkar Bitterleaf (who’s a supporting protagonist) coming close. Sure, they can be protagonists, moving the plot forword by their actions, which 8-Bit Theater showed us with Black Mage, but a protagonist is different than a hero.
A hero has to have admirable traits. It’s literally in the definition. It’s hard to admire someone who, by their alignment, is entirely selfish and focused on disorder.
Lawful Evil at least has a code of ethics, so with the right plot, they can be forced to do right if it suits their purpose. Even neutral evil can swing that way. Chaotic Evil might be locked out of the Hero badge. But I’d be happy to hear arguments against that idea.
Honestly, the only alignment I find restrictive is, ironically, Chaotic Neutral. Because that means you’re solidly dedicated to anarchy and so forth. Good for comedic characters, certainly, but not for much else. Even True Neutral can be moved into various positions based solely on the need for survival, but CN is bound by the need to justify their chaotic label.
Again, in a straight comedy, or a comedic bit character, that’s good. They can even be used to incite conflict. But it’s hard to tell a compelling, serial narrative without being forced by character growth to position the CN elsewhere.
So, for those of you who dislike D&D’s alignment system, that’s fine. Feel free to disregard it. It’ll leave no damage.
But I implore you. Don’t just put in a different alignment system. That’s just being petty. Either eschew it, or embrace it. And let those of us who like it have our fun.
Thank you for reading. If you want to see more content from me, please consider supporting my patreon. I’m intending to expand the scope of my tabletop output, and money would help that along immensely.
Until next time, may your dice make things interesting!
[1] See: my many snipes at (and one full essay about) my hatred of Shadowrun. [2] For those who want to snark about my love of GURPS: that’s a system whose necessary components fit in a 32-page document, and that’s still bogged down by overwritten text. Heck, it can be distilled down to a single sheet of paper. [3] Possibly an essay topic for another time. [4] Maybe that is the full extent of their personality, but I probably don’t want to be their friend. [5] Maybe if literature classes brought that aspect into analysis, I’d make fun of the subject a little less.[6] [6] Or maybe they’d find a tedious way to ruin it. [7] Javert’s delayed realization can be easily justified by the two figures having very rare direct interactions with one another. At least in the movie, the two just kinda bump into one another occasionally, and have to just deal. [8] The miniseries adaptation, by the way, modifies the sequence by having Valjean present for the suicide, then smiles as he walks away from the man who just drowned himself.[9] [9] That’s the only thing I saw of the miniseries, and it instantly murdered Valjean’s character. Dude, a man killed himself, stop looking so triumphant!
