They truly are struggling. I guess I can understand how the song structure might be confusing, maybe? But it’s always seemed obvious to me that she’s speaking to the person the song is about (Harry), and asking them questions she (and he) already know the answers to.

The first verse is easy to figure out, the parallels are clearly there. The second verse most likely references early 2015 when she started dating a dickhead guy aka Calvin, 2015 BBMAs anyone!??. “Half moon eyes, bad surprise” (I LOVE that lyric) is a perfect description of that night. The only lyric I don’t fully understand is “politics and gender roles”, I don’t know how it fits in with their story.

The chorus always makes me think of the MSG after party, but it could also be a metaphor for their relationship with the media/fans/haters as well, probably both. The feeling of having a personal moment when everyone else is watching and giving their opinion.
