hi guys! i’m adding to the total drama community by sharing a list of Alenoah fanfics i’ve found that are top tier, both completed and ongoing. enjoy!!!!

1: “Slippery Slopes” by @courtney-deserved-better on Ao3

OKAY this is quite literally the best fanfiction i’ve ever read. Not only is it incredibly well written and very in character, but there’s a whole second book with different perspective for some of the story called “Hawaiian Style.” It’s a World Tour rewrite where team chris is really really really really hot doesn’t lose the London challenge, so Noah and Heather more or less switch roles. Highly HIGHLY recommended. (The slow burn will drive you to insanity.)

2: “A Bit More Time” by @/seas1de on Ao3

THIS ONE!!!!!!! Alejandro gets caught in a time loop right before the beginning of the London challenge. This one is SO CRAZY CREATIVE and takes so many twists and turns. Incredibly enjoyable, and still on going. I love how well the writer uses time loop tropes, as that’s one of my favorites ever. Goes a little into some darker themes as well, so please be aware of that! Overall a very good read with a lot of fun time loopy stuff going on with everyone.

3: “Amicus Curiae” by @courtney-deserved-better on Ao3

Written by the same author as my first recommendation, I only have high remarks for this fanfic so far!!! In this one, Alejandro and Courtney join the Ridonculous Race as the “Best Friends.” As well as it being alenoah, Courtney and Emma are also shipped together in this story! It’s written so well, and each chapter is a different characters perspective! If you enjoyed season seven of total drama, definitely read this one.

4: “Stakes” by @/deadmxnsparty on Ao3

Vampire Alejandro, vampire hunter Noah. How can it go wrong? It can’t, it’s amazing. This one definitely takes a darker turn than rest, and is one of the two recommendations where “total drama island” never happened in their world. I always enjoy a good vampire au, and getting the different perspectives from characters is written well. Definitely read this if you’re a fan of paranormal creatures and dark romance!

5: “Dig a Mace into His Chest and a Shotgun into Mine” by @writerquil

(Ongoing)

Hunger games au! Noah and Gwen are the two tributes from District 12, and Noah plans to get Gwen to the very end as the victor. Alejandro is obviously from District 1, and so far the whole story has me hooked. All this, PLUS it’s interactive! At the end of each chapter, readers get to vote on what choices Noah should make! It’s incredibly fun to be apart of the story, and is also written well! Highly recommended if you enjoy THG and interactive stories!

@wistfulweaverwoman has an AMAZING breakdown of Peeta's first and last name and the symbolism behind it. Please go read that post. I'm kind of obsessed with it.

Suzanne pays attention to where names come from, so for THG and her other series, The Underland Chronicles, fanfic authors have guidance in where to get names. For THG, Capitol gets their names from Latin/Roman influence. The Districts largely get theirs from their industry (Wiress, Thresh, Cashmere, Bobbin, Tanner, Reaper, etc.). District 2 seems to follow the Capitol with Latin/Roman influences (Cato, Sejanus, Marcus, etc.). The Covey get theirs from a name in a ballad and a color (which is explained in TBOSAS).

For District 12, quite a few Seam characters get their name from nature (Katniss, Gale, Primrose, Posy, Hazelle, Lil short for Lily, Spruce), while it's been my headcanon that the merchants get theirs from derivatives of Biblical names. I always associate Peeta with Peter before pita bread, Delly=Delilah, Madge=Margaret, Maysilee/Mayfair=Mary and though they're Seam, Sae=Sarah/Sariah, Thom=Thomas.

Long, long, long time ago before Peeta's brothers had the fanon names Rye and (some other bread-related name) I used the names Jam and Jonah to make them...Peter, James, and John. This was before Mockingjay released and I'd been hoping his brothers would live and they'd have a role in the rebellion, making the trio comparison apt. I'm still attached to these names though, even if his brothers didn't really do anything. Also in the now-deleted fic I wrote of Mr. and Mrs. Everdeen getting together, I named Mrs. Everdeen Ruth, after the Ruth in the Bible that left her family and people to live and care for her mother-in-law after her husband died. The story reminded me of Mrs. Everdeen leaving her family to marry Mr. Everdeen. I don't think anyone else has this more Biblically-oriented view of the townies of D12's names. And it could just be that a lot of English names are derived from Biblical names as it is and I'm stretching. But merchants do have a distinct lack of nature names in comparison to those from the Seam so I think there's something making their names distinct. A way of showing another divide between the two cultures in D12.

Hello! I’m not certain that the ask box is the place for this(pretty new to tumblr), but I really wanted to let you know just how much I enjoy the writing you do. I found your a03 towards the end of 2021, and since then I’ve read through everything there and a lot of this blog. (I have tried and mostly failed to navigate live journal.) I absolutely adore your work. Like, it’s going to be hard for me to express just how much joy your writing brings me. But I know that positive feedback is important so I am going to try.

1) The world. Your stories from district two have some of the best worldbuilding that I have ever had the chance to see. It’s hard to explain, but you are very good at making stories that exist in time. The Centre and the Victor’s village have so much depth and weight to them. I can tell that choices were made for a reason, both in the story and outside of it. I feel like every background character could have an entire book written on them, and because of the scale of your writing, a whole lot of them do. District Two feels so real. I understand the career system and why District two didn’t rebel and how all of it adds to the themes that Suzanne Collins wrote THG to address. It’s really extraordinary. When I read hunger games fanfic by other people, I often find myself hoping district 2 will win.

2) The characters. Like above, you have an amazing sense of how characters age and grow over time. They all feel so real, and you are so good at giving each Victor a unique, changing philosophy. Lyme’s gradual path to rebellion, Ronan’s fight to protect his district, even the outlying victors have consistent characterizations. And to make things even more impressive, these characterizations stay consistent across AUs! Normal Alec and Victor Alec are so clearly the same character and it’s just really, really good. Your villains are also utterly despicable. Your version of Coin makes my skin crawl, especially in the ‘canon’ stories where only Enobaria lives. I think my favorite characters are Lyme and Claudius, but everyone is so well done.

3) Self indulgent stuff. As someone who spends too many hours in the day thinking about Marvel, I adore your Avengers Games fics from like 2012. The characters in that are also remarkably well written. The characters in that fic who were in the mcu at the time (the og avengers + loki) feel more in character than in most fan stuff that Ive read. (Is that story continued on the live journal? I really haven’t explored that site). Also, it’s been great to see another person online with similar opinions on TNG, especially on Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. So many fanfic writers forget that Katniss is a flawed girl trying her best, and they also ignore the real, serious issues that Collins wanted to explore with the series. You don’t do that. You don’t glorify the games, but you still manage to make your arena stories exciting and action packed. To quote a recurring theme from the series, you know who the real enemy is. Sorry if that sounded pretentious.

You have clearly put so much time and love into these fanfics over the last twelve years. I am honored that I have had the chance to read millions of words of your work, and I wanted to thank you for that. I hope you are doing well with whatever you do in your offline life!

The blessing of thg being books 😭 I agree so much though! It’s also how I generally feel ab manga and then like “book books” of course stories told via manga format can carry depth and meaning and the inherent visual element allows for so much on top of it but there are limitations “book books” just provide a different insight into characters and situations that due to its medium manga can’t. especially stories like thg where it’s so important we are within her mind constantly!

Not to say manga isn’t capable of telling thematic stories it’s just different!

I love reading your thg spiels! I was initially here for em like many others but your writing is just enjoyable no matter what ship it is. Hope em is still something you can enjoy privately!

totally!! its just like how in filmmaking, the visual of the character in how theyre acting, moving, what their microexpressions are can tell you so much about them and books don’t have that ability. generally speaking though, i do think suzanne collins is a better writer than isayama😭 she’s a lot more intentional about her themes and i think isayama fell victim to his own deadline. the last arc was a bit rushed. still an amazing story though obviously. and thank you so much!!!

Only 5? Let's see if I can narrow it down haha.

5. Love Triangles

They've been around a while, but truly only popularised by the likes of Twitlight and the Hunger Games. Almost any YA story trying to copy off of either of these will be guaranteed to have a love triangle.

Will they have any of the depth and symbolism and thought put into the THG triangle? Fuck no! The only thing happening here is a case of "oh no! However could I possibly choose between my two love interests uWu".

They're shallow, dull excuses to plump out the story and to set the shippers aflame. Most of the love triangles could be solved because everyone has two hands OR the fate of the relationship rests entirely on how hot both parties are, not chemistry or compatibility or any frame of logic.

Love triangles can fuck right off.

4. There's Like. No 'Good' Adults

You know how it goes. 'I'm a spunky teenager and what I say goes! Fuck you adults with 20+ years experience!' And then the adults get #owned by this badass teen that's 16 with 30 years work experience even though they only learned their skill/secret society/heritage/powers etc last week 🙄

The only good adults are dead, preferably before the story even starts, if not, sterile, unemotional death within the first 20 pages works just fine.

Everyone else is bad. Or dumb. Or useless. Or evil. Like? We get it you don't want any adults around, jeez.

This isn't a hard workaround! There's many many many ways to shunt aside your adults without making them all incompetent, evil or dead.

like I get it, being a young adult means sometimes you want to disobey authority. and what better wishfulfillment than bland white girl #39776× telling some adult (who may even be right!) to go shove it up their ass. It's not even used as like a study of hubris or the character and their development. It's a simple 'fuck you authority figure' and then they wash their hands of it.

Like bestie, young people need more experienced and older people, role models and safety nets and sounding boards and teachers alike! Why you gotta make every fictional adult evil? As if getting older makes you inevitably turn bad? Where is the camaraderie between generations? Where are the healthy relationships between young and old people? Why expect evil as if it's the default when we could simply lift our standards?

3. "Strong" Female Characters

It seems like no author who's heard the phrase knows what it means!

It means we end up with female characters who can kill a bear bare handed but have all the personality and drive of three day old dishwater. No! No no no no no!

A strong female character doesn't need to be strong! What she does need is a personality. Impact on the plot. Drive, decision making abilities. She makes the plot move, the plot doesn't have to drag her around like a limp noodle.

But no. These "writers" are incapable of understanding that 'strong female character' is a goddamn FIGURE OF SPEECH and then work in a field where understanding metaphors and literary devices is really really important. It's the kind of brain fuckery where say, a pet store employee doesn't know what a dog is. HOW. How does it happen?? These people need to go back to like Grade 5 english and literacy skills lessons. Bloody hell.

2. The Almost Constant Racism

YA racism is so *shakes fist* it's not even limited to the writing.

White authors are out here "writing" what essentially amounts to tropes cobbled together with tape and chewing gum, the same kind of shallow, bland plots that are a staple of fanfiction from my 14 year old self. And then you have all these amazing works of fiction rejected because the author is a poc or the characters are "too diverse".

This isn't even scratching the surface of how racist a lot of YA gets. Like, the majority of characters are white, the main character is 99% guaranteed to be white, their love interest/s will either be white or they'll be fetishised until the cows come home. Any characters of colour will either be relegated to 2 dimensional secondary character or will be killed off with little fanfare, depending on the overall mood of the story.

The Wasted Potential

YA could so, so easily be the stepping stone for young readers transitioning out of children's fiction. Like, there's a lot of literature taught to people in high school that is simply beyond their ability to comprehend, but is still important to learn!

Much of classic lit, and literature that's important to study, is simply just. Too much. I know I didn't really understand a lot of what I learned in literature and I was one of the best students in my class. It's hard. Genuinely it's hard.

You know what would make it easier? A midpoint. Writing with similar depth and care and craftsmanship, but written for a younger, less experienced and developed audience.

The likes of Animal Farm and the Hunger Games come to mind because they are both clear cut allegories that, with a little research and help, are easy enough to understand and analyse. Like, can you imagine what kind of stories we'd get if even HALF these trope collàge booktok YA books were written with the same kind of skill as any classic author? The same kind of conviction and power in their stories?

Instead of classics that are beyond the comprehensive range of teenagers that just make them hate reading and leave them confused and upset. What kind of lessons could these kids be learning, if there were high quality works written for them and their level of development? Like, they could be learning and developing their skills as writers and analysts because they wouldn't constantly have to have it pointed out to them what x metaphor means or why abc is important.

Idk. I just think it'd be good for students to have a medium specifically for their age group instead of being expected to comprehend the entirety of War and Peace.

anyway, these are my main thots on YA as a general genre. I have mixed feelings about it, as it was incredibly important for my development as a reader and writer and analyst but also :) most of it is shit :) as in like 99% of it is shit :) and we deserve better as readers.

next is anything by @finnicksannie (thewalkinggrimes on AO3). you best believe that control is easily life changing one of the best works i have ever read for this fandom and maybe just in general . truly, like it is jaw dropping, stunning, amazing. i have nothing bad to say about it whatsoever. tales of district four is also an absolute treasure trove, so i really recommend that if you're looking for something finnick and annie centric! it was so good that I read it all in a day and then proceeded to talk to my friends about it for the next week. that's how good it was. odesta centric

1. My favorite trope for everlark.. man that's hard. I really love the 4 werewolf fics I've read.🤣but my favorite has to be like best friend to lovers trope. Or fake enemies to lovers. (I know I gave like three answers I'm so sorry it's just so hard to choose!)

2. My fanfics to original writing? Probably my httyd x thg fic. I honestly have huge hopes for it. And I have the third chapter almost finished. It has 0 to do with actual httyd but just has the dragons and classes. Just because I have so much angst planned and because everlark having dragons is amazing to me.

3. Man, my favorite fic? A lot are meanless smut 🤣 (yes, I'm just going to out myself) anyways I'd choose.. man, idk. It's hard because I have so many old favorites, but it's been so long since I can't fully remember. Oh my god I love ballad of songbirds and snakes!!!!!!!!!!! I read it around the time it was released and it was so good I cried and went into an existential crisis reading it. I was so sad it didn’t get the same hype as the hunger games books like hello it’s the PREQUEL!!!!!!! And people were not getting me when I was trying to say there was an explanation behind president snow’s behavior, he’s an awful, terrible person but the way that society was designed, it was created to churn out people like him, to take young boys who didn’t think of power and make them bloodthirsty…… but my friend was like what the fuck are you talking about and I was just there like PLEASE READ IT.. idk I just really appreciated the window into his past and Lucy like it was a phenomenal book imo (sorry I sound like a crazy person I just haven’t come across ONE person who read it and liked it)

I really like it but I’m not done with it yet! I’ve seen a lot of people on tiktok and YouTube comment sections always raving and talking about it, and I believe the hype will grow when the movie comes out (although I hate who they’ve cast as snow… it looks so modern and I know it’s dystopian FUTURE but like… why is he in jeans and a t shirt pls?)

Anyways, from what I’ve read so far it’s like… so interesting. Bc at some points he sounds like a total psycho by how cold and unsympathetic he is and his narration is… like there’s something so eery and off about his narration and inner thoughts. But then also he’s not even the worse like there’s so many others so much worse than him?? Like the game designer woman (Gait or smth?) is fucking SCARY AND PSYCHOTIC and a lot of Snow’s classmates have viewpoints way worse than Snow. Also, I can totally understand why Snow is thinking the way he is, so it’s so interesting! Suzanne Collins is honestly amazing, THG is one of my fav trilogies bc it’s so spot on with the themes it discusses! She’s such a superior writer and THG deserves more than to be grouped in with other YA dystopian fiction like Divergent which isn’t even a quarter as good as THG tbh.

Gahhh I really need to finish a ballad of songbirds and snakes, I’m at the part when Snow and Lucy Gray kiss for the first time !!!

"You'll be fine." Eddie reassures him. "Something that Capitol citizens love is spending money. You'll get tons of donors. It'll be okay." Eddie repeats, not sure if he does it to convince Buck or himself.

"Thanks, Eddie." Buck presses his lips and looks down at his own hands, trapped in the handcuffs. "Listen, when I die—"

"If you die."

Buck gazes up at him, doubt and pure skepticism in his eyes. "If I die—" He says reluctantly. "I don't know if it's at all possible but maybe you could let me write a letter, and get it to Maddie when—" At Eddie's stare, Buck's lips tug slightly upwards in the smallest of smiles. "If," he corrects himself. "If I die?"

"Yeah, of course Buck." Eddie blinks and leans a little more forward, dropping his voice enough that only Buck will hear him. "I'll try to take some paper for you tonight and let you write the letter, okay?"

"Yeah, okay." This time Buck's s.ile comes a little easier, a little bigger. "Thanks, Eddie."

Everytime Buck thanks him for anything, Eddie feels like he wants to scream. The guy shouldn't be thanking Eddie for anything. Not when Eddie is partly the reason the games exist anyway, not when the creator of the games is Eddie's dad. Not when Eddie is a coward that can't stand up to his own father.

But he doesn't even know how to begin to explain any of this. Not to himself and least of all to another person, to Buck. So he just nods and shrugs.

"It's nothing, really."

I deleted my old tumblr years ago after being bullied off this hellsite, and just thought I'd look up some of the old blogs I used to follow, back when I was a very active part of the THG and specifically Everlark fandom.

Pretty much the first post I came across was a memorial for a favourite writer and friend. I had absolutely no idea she had passed and I just... I am so sorry. We were pregnant at pretty much the same time, and I'm looking at my little boy, crying my eyes out for your little girl and husband.

Kristin, I'm so so sorry I've only just heard this terrible news. You were such an amazing person. If anyone knows of a charity or anything that she supported, I would very much like to make a donation in her name
