I still don't have a species-level ID for this one as the only way to have them formally described is to take a dead specimen to a museum/uni, and I certainly won't kill one to do so. But the consensus on iNaturalist is that it's not Amegilla cingulata, which is the commonly known blue-banded bee on the east coast. Last photo not mine, but in case Tumblr doesn't know about the blue bees I had to add one of how the boys sleep. They grab onto whatever vine is handy with their mandibles and hang on while they snooze. They're solitary bees, but sometimes you'll find them hanging out like this:

My camera is not suited for insect photography and one day (I can only hope) I’ll be in a better place money wise to buy a macro lens so I can take better photos of bees, but for now.... 

A female blue-banded bee (Amegilla cingulata) in my front-yard, my favourite species of the native Aussie bees. You can tell she’s a female from the number of bands on her abdomen, males have 5 and females have 4.   

This plant is a favourite with the native bees, attracting neon cuckoo, domino cuckoo, teddybear bees and of course honey bees. I’ve noticed purple / blue flowers will always attract these native bees.
