(Ismaire here:) ~6 hr speed-paint, + 1.5 hrs to tweak for the second version.

I love Resident Evil. I won't go through my whole personal fan history or journey, but it's my favorite franchise. I've loved the Resi Remakes too. And like it seems a lot of people did, I absolutely loved the new Separate Ways.

And this is just a personal opinion, I'm not saying that anyone needs to agree - but I adore Lily Gao as Ada Wong.

Every actress who portrayed Ada before has their place in Resi history and I'm grateful for the work they did in the franchise, but I think Lily Gao did such a perfect, snappy, subtly multi-layered version of the mysterious mercenary I was familiar with.

I always loved Ada, so I say this with love and appreciation:

She's taken Ada from femme fatale spy stereotype to a fleshed-out individual, from an archetype to a complex woman who has her own ideals, feelings and struggles, and has to juggle them with the decisions that got her where she is now. Obviously the writing was great too, which played a huge part in setting up Lily Gao's acting to absolutely sing (at least to me).

She's a different Ada, for sure. Was I caught off-guard by her voice at first? You bet. She doesn't have the airy, playful, motherly (sometimes kind of condescending?) tone about her anymore - she's got things to do. She's as sharp and cunning as she is quietly compassionate. She's willing to cut off Albert Wesker mid-sentence, but she's just as willing to call Leon and tell him where to find Ashley. She feels like a merc who's had it rough and made her way by sheer hard work, not a model who gets out of bad spots by blowing kisses and tossing a perfectly timed grenade.

Now, I love over the top badassery, and I love how that was rehashed and still fit back into Ada's character. But she felt like a human first, and like those "glorious moments of awesome" came out of painstakingly honed skill, not absurdly sturdy plot armor.

What I stated here applies to a lot of things about the Resi remakes, of course - not just Ada. So much has been tweaked, amped, remixed, and so on. Ada is just maybe one of the most prominent parts of the remakes that made me really pause and go "oh my God, I can't believe how much I love this!"

I don't have a problem with the originals - I loved them (camp and all), grew up with them, etc. As a whole package, the series is just my jam and it would be hard to lose me as a fan. I even got used to first-person play so I could enjoy 7 and Village - they were awesome. (Bless you who already love first-person games. I... don't, haha.)

But back to Ada - I just thought this was the most well-rounded performance her character has ever gotten. Anyone else can read her any way they want to. She's fictional, let's all remember. But Lily Gao is not, and she now has my heart and my vote as a fan!

Trek friends, the Delta Flyers has started their DS9 rewatch with Terry Farrell and Armin Shimerman, Robbie Duncan McNeill and Garrett Wong.

I'm SO excited to hear Terry and Armin's thoughts, because they are both two of my absolute favourite actors in the Trek worlds.

Hint- for those like me who are deaf/HOH, run this on google with auto captions. It's not perfect, but it's good enough. Or, if you have the money, become a patron. I'm too poor, but it looks worth it.

🪟 When you look out the window right now what do you see? My blinds are never not closed. But if I were to open them I would see a wall.

💼 What is the most unusual profession someone in your family was in? Hmm well for a brief period of time in college I worked as the basketball team’s mop boy. As in, I was the one who sat on the sidelines with a fancy mop and had to run out and wipe away the sweat left on the floor each time they fell. Very glamorous, I know 💅

🎨 What hobby were you really into as a kid? I was weirdly into survival stuff. Like, I has multiple wilderness survival books, I knew how to set up a campsite, I had a pocket knife collection, I would bring a little emergency kit everywhere with me. Mind you, I never actually went camping until I was like 20. I still have some of the survival books and I still have an amped up version of my emergency kit in my bag tho lol.

🎬 What’s the last movie you watched? Did you enjoy it? What genre is it? I think it was Nope ? I loved it. Horror/ sci-fi.

🎥 What is your favourite movie genre? I honestly don’t watch movies that often. I guess I would say queer films? But the more upbeat ones. The Gay Deceivers, To Wong Foo Thanks For Everything Julie Newmar, But I’m A Cheerleader, The Birdcage, Jennifer’s Body, etc.

Spirit World #2 continues with Batgirl's adventure in said place. Where we get some twists and turns that open up questions from over 20 years ago! So here are my thoughts all about Cass (with a bit on Xanthe too)...

So this continues with the last one with Mr. Hong literally breaking into Po Po's place. Well, it ain't someone Cass knows but at the very least, writer Alyssa Wong again showcases their mastery of the character knowing the aggression of Hong behind the door last issue.

Likewise, I love the overall body horror design of "mutilated" Mr. Hong. Artist Haining ups the ante of the two sisterly stretchy neck demons' last issue with well an amazing design with this one easily.

Though an outsider, I do like that Wong clearly doesn't have Cass in the backseat when Hong breaks in and showcases why she's one of the deadliest fighters in the DCU.

But not only that but I do love the little winged-like appearance Po Po has with her scarf.

The whole sequence is a nice establishment of three dynamics at play here. On why Bowen is with Po Po (Cassandra he is not), and how he pleas that even this tainted life is still a life (echoing to Cass's remorse last issue of slaying a spirit in the prelude issue).

That's another element I enjoyed as Wong expands on what can come into the Spirit World and what tethers a being here back to the real world.

By doing so we get a much more look into Xanthe's own past with full confirmation they passed away and that their link to the real world was their sister Stephie (who ironically wears purple and a hood).

I really got to admit Wong is just some real powerlifting this issue by doing this with Xanthe, playing into an interesting way of dead naming, plus just the weaving into family issues too.

For other authors, it might take many issues to do all this, but Wong knows they got in two already exceptional issues and teasing for more. And damn I want more even when this is basically the third issue.

That brings us to the big twist pertaining to Cass this issue. As to find out who wants to gobble her up Po Po, Bowen, and Cass meet another interesting mystical figure in To Shen who um.. is making me question things stupid sexy probably evil fox spirit.

*ahem* Anyway, again the design is just crazy good and I'm curious to learn more about them and the connection they have to Cass as well.. we get the first ramification from Batgirl Vol. 1.

Now already some are thinking Wong is doing some retconning and explaining Ghost Steph (and if so oh boy are we in for a wild ride).

The thing that makes me wonder if Wong will go for the hat trick as Cass has technically been on death's door three times. Lady Shiva (#25), the Brotherhood of Evil (#61), and Mad Dog (#72).

On two of those times, she was visited by a ghostly Stephanie. And given To Shen is a rocking blonde and given solicitation (which spoiled this). You just have to wonder.

Again, this is Wong showing how long they've been a fan of the character adding to what's already come in the past with Cass, by giving this mystical adventure to her she's not really had as a character.

It's a different avenue, but it's also one Wong looks to use steeped in Cass's past. A past not many acknowledge since the end of Vol. 1. Literally, the only two who've acknowledged the series have been four times (Simone twice, Tynion, and recently Conrad/Cloonan).

It makes me scream why Tamaki wasn't allowed this much leeway with her Batman stuff. But I digress, offhandedly (by showing Huntress in NML and Jim Gordon referencing it) she's the one who put Cass's NML back to the forefront.

That leaves me more amped for #3. This series is just everything I wanted with the character. It's giving us new interactions (Xanthe, John, Po Po, and Bowen), a mystical adventure, and using past Cass stories to build toward SOMETHING. I am REALLY digging the kinetic energy Haining continues to bring with Cass stuff. It's soooooo good. More so seeing Cass's new design in action as well. Spirit World #2 is another exceptional issue. Something that fans who are reading should tell other fans. "Hey, you wanna read some good stuff? This is good stuff right here!"

Eddie reluctantly follows Venom's directions to the Sanctum Sanctorum in New York, looking up at the weirdly shaped window right in front. "I don't remember this being here when I lived in New York, bud, are we even in our own... Timeline... Whatever?"

Universe, Eddie, and no I don't believe we are but the wizard inside should be able to help! At least... Before the super power police show up...

"Super power police? What, are those cops with super powers?"

No, they are more like secret police that despise super powers, Eddie.

"I... Don't like your implications there, bud... Are you sure they're like the secret police?"

Before Venom can answer there's the sound of an explosion behind them and Eddie runs towards the doors of the building on adrenaline he's pretty sure Venom amped up

Stephanie jumps from the top floor only to be caught by the cloak. She heard an explosion.

The doors to the scantum swing open.

“What the feck was that?” Steph asks. Wong shrugs and summons two Tao Mandelas.

She summons her spectral axe, landing and walking to the door.

“You okay?” She asks the approaching man as he rushes towards the building.
