One of Midoriya “Deku” Izuku’s first friends (the first real one, to be exact), training to be a hero alongside the rest of her class. Despite her character arc and evolution of goals, which tie in strongly with the themes of the series, fans view her as an “obstacle” because of her canonical crush on Izuku. As a result, fan works pairing Izuku with a guy minimize the positive impact she’s had on his life and diminish her role, with some even demonizing her and turning her into a jealous bitch to justify Izuku not dating her. The simple possession of a crush has lead to her being overlooked and mistreated by the fandom, such as the common take she’s had no growth since the obtainment of her crush (feelings she actively pushes to the side as to not possibly create a distraction from her goals). These takes are accompanied by claims her character solely revolves around Izuku, ignoring the fact that many other guy characters have their characters revolve around him, some even more than her.

Shes literally so fucking cool and passionate and she has a genuinely interesting place in the setting and YET she is constantly sidelined by both the show and the fandom in favor of her canonical love interest/main character and i'm going to be mad about it forever. 90% of the time is should she date the MC, or just that shes "a queen" or "a girlboss". Bc who cares about her growing up in poverty or her relationship with her parents or interest in rescue work? All that matters is that shes not a threat to YOUR favorite MLM ship but dw! Its still feminist because she can punch people <3

Jade Harley

She and Terezi were popularly mischaracterised and villainised in DaveKat fics, especially in Homestuck's heyday. It got really bad when DaveKat became canon.

One of the four original main characters who was progressively sidelined as the comic went on, shipteased with two boys (Dave and Karkat) but did not date either in the main comic. In the semi-canonical epilogue partly written by fans, she was characterized as lonely and hypersexual and 'getting in the way' of Dave and Karkat's true love.

okay so its been a while since my homestuck phase but. basically miss jade is a very kind girl who lives on a jungle island with a magic dog guardian and there are two guys who have crushes on her and treat her really weirdly because of it. anyway the two guys (dave and karkat) go from enemies to friends and are one of the most popular ships in the homestuck fandom despite actually having very little canon interactions while jade ends up lonely and mistreated by the narrative and the fans :(

Bro vs Eridan in terms of being an awful person is tricky considering Bro was being possessed by Cal and Eridan was a 13 year who had to do Feferi dirty work his entire life so her Lusus wouldn't destroy everything. I genuinely think Bro had no choice in anything he did considering his note to Dave was something Caliborn came up with. Eridans case is a bit more complex given the circumstances of his planet, none of those things he did were ok to do but either feed the monster or have everything destroyed. He's the whole reason the trolls were alive in the first place. Considering he had to risk his life everyday for everyone else, him attempting to join Jack isn't out of the ordinary for dangerous stuff he encounters. Yea he's douchey and destroying the matriorb was dick move, but everyone on the meteor lost their minds and had or attempted to kill someone. Tavros tried and Kanaya sawed 2 people in half.

I am also on the side that Bro was possessed or mind controlled to some degree. But the fandom sees things like his strife battle with Dave as more serious because the other ones are played for laughs. Forgetting John would strike is father with a hammer and Rose threatened to commit suicide in front of her Mom. Jade's case is sadder when you remember that when Jade played with the double pistols, Tavros had used Bec to redirect the bullet to kill Grandpa English. She indirectly killed her guardian and wouldn't realize it until later on in the game. Bro's last act would be attempting to fight Jack Noir before dying. So does that mean people think Jack Noir is a HERO for killing the abuser? They forget that DAVESPRITE was present too when they both went after Jack. Bro had no reason to do anything to someone that's a brother from a different timeline. And yet, he was able to let Davesprite run away to safety and fought Jack on his own before dying.

But nobody in this nu-fandom remembers this or thinks hard about that last moment. They only care about his past actions and think it is played for straight abuse. It only applies to him and cannot be applied to other characters unless it's part of a gender arc for a character to transition. It's true Eridan would hunt lusus to help feed Feferi's. Even he admits it can be tiring to figure out when it is the proper time to hunt or not. Hinting that they can't overfeed or underfeed Gl'bgolyb. But you also can't deny he was also doing it to get closer to Feferi and be in a closer relationship with her. Which is why people label him as an incel and people flanderize that to the extreme which gave us Cronus. Then there's the line about him saying he killed marine life accidental.

If it's not sarcasm or poor flirting, it could also mean Eridan had unintentionally killed a lusus and gave it to Feferi to help feed another lusus to try and justify what he is doing is good. And overtime, he gradually accepted it and continued. Getting close to his crush Feferi would also tie in too. You know what they say about psychopaths, first sign is them killing animals. Sure the animals were parents for a troll, but they are still ANIMALS. Kanaya, Karkat, and Terezi accepted that Eridan was a piece of shit and want him to stay dead. Even if he was the reason said trolls are still around, they would never want to bring him back because of his horrid actions on the meteor. As we see when Karkat ended their friendship and Terezi talking with Vriska on who to revive back, Eridan doesn't deserve to be revived. And no mention of Equius, as being the Void player..

Nepeta may have felt Eridan had died, but it's unknown if she knew about Eridan wanting to join Jack. She wasn't even present with Aradia and others in the Vriskagram after becoming a ghost to meet up with him. Though we have yet to see Terezi and Vriska act on that promise on reviving said trolls. The reason they haven't because Terezi found out that Gamzee was trapped in the same fridge as her corpsed friends and didn't want to see him. Maybe the dead trolls will come back for Homestuck Beyond Canon, but that's just wishful thinking with how dead Nepeta jokes are still around and they only brought ghost Eridan in Epilogues for a 'redemption arc.

Eridan got what he deserved and died for his actions. But does he deserve to get brought back? How long should the punishment of his death last? To the cast and narrative, he can never be brought back to relevancy. The other reason the fandom likes Eridan recently is because of Pesterquest putting through the gender arc. Saying his seahorse dad was abusive that didn't acknowledge his gender, despite it's never shown in the webcomic he was this. And because of that, people instantly love him and ignore his past actions and stance on hemospectrum. All for the sake of making the March Eridan meme less transphobic. Nu-fans don't give a shit that he was racist, killed animals and Feferi, destroyed the Matriorb, and had killed Kanaya. All it matters is his label. Yes he is a racist asshole, but he's a NON-BINARY racist asshole. Both Bro and Eridan had done horrible things in the past. But one got more heat over the other. As one got love and attention because of a non-canon moment in a side game, despite people had hated him for those past actions. It's sort of insane about the priorities we have going on in this fandom.

what was your dave hc for that davekat comic? just curious

okay so. two things. first of all a content warning for discussing homophobia and child abuse (i mention child sexual abuse but don’t go into detail). second of all, i read homestuck for the first time last month and i’ve never read any analysis of dave’s character, so i have no idea of what the general opinion is!

this is insanely long so it’s all under the cut, sorry if you didn’t expect this wall of text anon

i think it's pretty much explicitly canon that dave has a complicated relationship with his attraction to men, both because of internalised homophobia and because of the abuse he suffered as a child from his bro. as someone who didn’t pay much attention to dave until later pages, i want to say that his first meeting with dirk was the only moment in all homestuck that made me cry and left me with my heart stinging. i had to stop reading for a while

my comic was the result of days of thinking of how dave is a deeply repressed and traumatised boy who left earth thinking being gay is a joke, only to fall for another boy whose entire species is bisexual by default. i like to interpret dave as someone who is simultaneously uncomfortable with and yearning for intimacy – he is kinda okay with having a partner, with casually making out, but he freaks out the moment he has to talk about his feelings or take things a step further. the fact that he (as davesprite) suddenly breaks up with jade, unable to put his feelings into words for a proper explanation; the way he (pre-retcon) describes his relationship with terezi on the meteor as “a thing” and refuses to talk to karkat (or anyone) about it; the whole goddamn conversation between him and karkat and john in the final arc… this poor kid has gone through a lot

a lot of the abuse he’s suffered because of his bro is very explicit, like being denied privacy, but a lot of it is also left implied. he’s weirdly fixated on dirk being gay, not only because he wants to know how he came out, but also because learning about it made him have a realization about his bro that he refuses to even bring up in the conversation. the first though i had was that he went through some kind of sexual abuse, not necessarily involving physical touch (though it could be) but strong enough to damage his perception towards his own body. even for a headcanon in which that doesn’t happen, dave says his bro never truly loved him, and i can imagine him having never received any kind of genuine physical affection

we also have to take into account that dave’s last sight of earth was 2009’s earth. we’re in 2023 as i’m writing this and men all over the world still have a complicated relationship with affection and feelings, especially straight men towards other men. dave grew up in a time in which gay marriage wasn’t legal in the united states, in which a lot of feminist ideas were outright discarded as crazy, and he never had to question lgbt issues because all of his crushes before karkat were girls. so he left earth being not exactly homophobic but finding jokes about gay people funny, and then he was forced to live with aliens that don’t understand heteronormativity because they quite literally don’t care about gender. and on top of that, the only other human in the meteor who happens to be his sister is suddenly a lesbian, and he feels like he’s the only one who can’t come to terms with his own sexuality

as much as it’s tempting to think that dave and rose had some conversations about the topic on the meteor, to me it is much more interesting to think that they haven’t. rose is another can of worms, and i personally love that the way she sorted her feelings out is 100% up to interpretation (i have dozens of explicitly repressed lesbians to read about in other media) – however, in every possible scenario i imagine dave dying to ask her personal questions, but ultimately deciding against it because it would put him in a vulnerable position. he isn't alone, but he's been taught to believe he is

so, finally coming back to how i envisioned my davekat comic: they have made out more than once but they have never talked about how they feel about it. karkat is afraid to death of hurting dave because he apparently can’t stop hurting his loved ones! but he guesses that at this point they are both on the same page and they should take it a step further and maybe dave just needs someone else to silently take the initiative? which isn't entirely wrong (they are horny teenagers physically craving for touch), but the sudden skin-to-skin contact is too much for dave, who isn’t mentally prepared for this. and he won’t be prepared until he talks about it, but he will eventually. because he will learn that he isn't alone and he will never be

honestly, out of all things i didn’t expect when i read homestuck, the last one was a well written teenager coming to terms with the fact that he’s bisexual. i really don’t want to hear any debate about this topic, because i was genuinely touched by how human dave’s development felt and that’s the emotion i want to remember. i too have been a lgbt teenager with no words to describe my experiences, afraid of coming out to my friends, and it was very nice to read that two of the four main protagonists of homestuck are explicitly lgbt. sorry if the wording isn’t the most pleasing, i know that literally almost every homestuck character is explicitly lgbt (you could argue that all kids are), but i guess that rose and dave being *inarguably* lgbt while being so important to the story makes my heart warm. we don’t usually get stories like this that get so insanely popular. also, i hope this hasn’t come across as me reducing dave to his insecurities and sexuality, it was after all a reply to a specific question!!

following conversations with @roquereptil and @phosphoricbomb i have a thought

i have almost certainly had similar discussions on a deeper scale about Entrapta specifically (Heart or Void player Entrapta), but i want to pull it back a bit and talk about a lot of the characters!

specifically, the notion of Prospit and Derse. So which characters do you think would be Prospit and Derse?

My analysis is based on the characters who you find on those planets. All of the Prospit kids are optimistic or otherwise idealistic, they have dreams and ambitions and largely live in fantasy. Not 100% of them do, but you see these characters taking a kick to the head at some point and their hopes and dreams get crushed.

All the Derse kids live in a cold hard real world. Usually with difficult backgrounds. They already know things are shit and frankly to them the game solved everything.

There are a couple of exceptions, like Feferi Peixes who is an optimistic Dersite (but anchored to Meenah Peixes who fits Derse perfectly), Sollux Captor who is on BOTH PLANETS (but for all intents and purposes is Dersite), and Nepeta Leijon who is in a grey area - more on that in a moment.

PROSPIT

Glimmer - She’s the most determined Prospit brained character .Glimmer isn’t under any illusion of greatness, however, she believes strongly in the Rebellion and friendship and in becoming as heroic as she can be to protect everyone. Glimmer has plenty of doubts but she swallows them in bold overconfidence.

Adora - Similar to Terezi Pyrope, Adora comes from a fucked up background but still idealises the values instilled in her of good and bad, and is determined to be a hero.. even if it means cutting down the person she loves most dearly. Unlike Dave who tries and fails to deny the call, Adora is basically running to be kiled for the good of all. Probably a Hope player. Pray that she isn’t the Time player.

Bow - Just like Glimmer and perhaps the inspiration for her ideals, Bow believes strongly in the Rebellion and the good of people. His brain is filled with happy thoughts. He is the most Prospitian to ever.

Of course, all three characters will have their hopes and dreams crumbled into dust over the show, and pick them back up again.

Sea Hawk - He is irrelevant enough to be Dersite but for some reason this guy makes me think of John Egbert. He just loves setting things on fire and doesn’t give many fucks about much else.

Perfuma - She reminds me of Jade Harley and Kanaya Maryam a little bit in that she is trying sooooo hard to be the good natured friend who knows everything that’s going on and is ok with adjustments to plans, however she is bottling up an insane rage and concealing half of her own character. Like both she really does believe in the things she talks about even if she can’t follow through those ideals.

Wrong Hordak - He’s very idealistic and simple, even after he switches sides. A happy boy.

Horde Prime - This is definitely my most interesting entry here. Prime sees himself as the savior of the planet. Everything that is not him is irrelevant. He doesn’t have any of Vriska or Catra’s pain, he doesn’t have the true awareness of the world that has been burned into Dersites, nor does he have the compassion for others that the other Prospits have. Prime is not like Caliborn, who started off irrelevant and had to fight to become the most important man in the universe. Prime has no flaws, he has no fears, and for that reason, he embodies the light of Prospit.

DERSE

Catra - Her brain is filled with terrible thoughts and fears and what separates her from Vriska is that Catra does not see herself as remotely relevant, she is chasing validation, not clout (which Vriska sees as the same thing). In contrast to Adora, Catra already knows the world is terrible and she frankly has no hopes or dreams, there is no sunshine in her nightmares. Horrorterrors eat Catra’s brain for lunch and she goes Grimdark at the first opportunity. Gets a period of recovery at the end of the show like Rose and the trolls!

Scorpia - If Scorpia actually believed anything she ever said, that would swing her onto Prospit. But she’s never had any self confidence, she’s never had faith that her friends care about her, or that her grandfather wanted what’s best for her. She’s always in a state of denial but always knows that her life is fucking terrible, and that only gets worse for Scorpia over the show. Like many Dersites, however, there is that light at the end of the tunnel, and Scorpia is very very strong. She’s a lot like Roxy and Nepeta.

Hordak - I see nothing remotely prospitian about this man who hates himself and his very being. Hordak just kind of Suffers throughout the whole show. He is defective and broken and discarded by his master. He is in many ways the opposite of Prime, no matter how he tries to emulate him. Hordak’s Homestuck counterparts are seen in Eridan Ampora and Dave Strider. Eridan has Hordak’s rage and villainy, Dave has the broken and scarring relationship with his father.

Entrapta - Like many Dersites, Entrapta battles with irrelevance. Her friends leave her to die, her second set of friends leave her to die, maybe it’d be better if a defect like her just stayed out of it. Entrapta is like Nepeta - Neither character is “fit for the purpose” that they were put into society for, both are heavily implied to be autistic and seen as defective because of it. And both characters run headfirst into dangerous situations. Entrapta however has a lot of powerful energy happening when she’s in a good mood which you could compare to Jade Harley, but I think while the characters are very similar, Jade believes herself to have a lot more control over her fate and loses it at the end to a self sacrifice narrative (EXACTLY like Adora), while Entrapta starts off with little to no control over her situation and ends up as one of the most powerful characters despite it all (like Aradia?).

Mermista - She reminds me of Rose, Dave, and Sollux in that Mermista always appears five stages of done in any given situation, and she appears to have had some shitty responsibility thrown on her, but give her a few minutes and she will dork your ear out. I don’t think there’s any real darkness or despair hidden behind Mermista’s character, which separates her from the other 3, but I think she’d be an excellent Derse dreamer.

Yeah my analysis of Derse was a lot deeper than Prospit but that’s probably because of the four Derse humans being much deeper characters than the four Prospit humans...

EDIT:

Here are a couple of points on some characters I forgot to mention.

Shadow Weaver - It's difficult because Light Spinner might qualify as Prospitian but Shadow Weaver screams Derse to me. Weaver's closest counterparts in Homestuck are the Condesce, who is Derse, and The Handmaid, who is also Derse. However, Weaver originally came from the light, unlike those two characters. I think Prospit Dreamer Weaver would be very interesting. Maybe she starts off on Prospit and sells her soul to the Horrorterrors! I guess if she's anything like a human kid, her biggest similarities are Rose and Dirk, who are both Dersites!!! But those characters have a humility that Weaver lacks.

Micah - Doesn't get enough character development to properly quantify, I think maybe Prospit because he's very determined and idealistic even though he's been through a hell of an ordeal! He survived on Beast Island for like 15 years because he wanted to see his family again. Young Micah was also incredibly talented and Light Spinner's prodigy student. He's a lot more similar to Glimmer than Angella is, and Glimmer is totally Prospit.

i think they would have an epic blackrom-adjacent Thing going on like. game recognizes game but oh my god shut the fuck up (about everything). they do eventually learn each others' boundaries and not to go Too Far with the verbal jabs but those first few months on the meteor were probably nastyyyyyyyyy like rose just had the worst day of her LIFE and uh. the whole thing with terezi happened so they r both not in the best mental state when they meet irl.

plus the whole uh. kanaya angle. vriska developed a crush on her at Literally the worst time (when she had already moved on to rose) so that's a whole other can of worms fueling vriska's initially one-sided beef with rose.

once things chill out & post-game they would consider each other their best & longest-term friend but they'd always have that "kinda hate each other" vibe

the general overview i've got of most things is roughly like this (swaps can be found here) - i'm guessing you want a rough overview so these are the rough guides i've got right now (subject to change though)

this gets long so it's going under a cut

beforus was a bit of a mess, things were a bit rougher under aranea/vriska's battles for power (time), mituna tended to be calmer at first - though he still had an accident that led to severe injury and a lot of chaos (mind). meenah was pretty dedicated to the cult but she still had falters and had the "burden" of a calmer highblood as her ancestor, she led to a few "accidents" and acted as if nothing was ever her fault (doom). cronus was still pretty into dating anyone he could, was stronger so he had a bit more pull but he was still pretty bad at being a decent person (blood), kurloz tended to hide behind momentary fixations, pretending he wasn't into anything to cover his ass because he could hear and feel every emotion of everyone around him (void). porrim tried fighting for newer aspects of beforus, though most of her efforts were in vain and led to endless pain (life), meulin was an escapee of the caverns, tending to hide behind fixations with kurloz to hide how nervous she was over being free (space). horuss found a lot of difficulty in most things, tending to hide between partners and friends than accept he felt completely lost in everything (light), damara lost a lot of care and feeling for most things thanks to bullying that destroyed her completely, she ends up finding more interest in things just blowing up in the end (rage). latula cares for her friends over herself most of the time - she largely hides behind a cool girl image to cover her bases, she also had an accident that led to partial vision loss along with her sense of smell (breath), kankri grew wings and feels completely hopeless at this prospect, he covers most things with his version of justice which fluctuates between worthwhile arguments and simply talking over people (hope). rufioh still cheats on damara, he still gets attacked by her and has horuss as a matesprit - though he's more considerate and tries defusing things and accepts how hopeless some aspects of their lives are (heart).

vriska is an impractical option for a leader, she's rough and callous over most aspects of her life, she's close to kanaya and eridan though both relationships have severe pitfalls to them. sollux is biding his time to avoid fully committing to the orpahner role, he's matesprits with gamzee and moirails with terezi, he tends to hide behind being a tougher caste but he's still pretty nerdy underneath everything. feferi is deeply tied to the clown thing, she's more interested in changing the dynamic of the church towards the other cherub. eridan is big on hanging with vriska and is pretty unashamed to be disgusted with lower castes, he's moirails with feferi, finds the clown thing a joke and is neighbors with gamzee. gamzee hides behind sopor to numb everything he hears about everyone, he also suffers from a few accidents that lead to him being in chronic pain, sopor helps with that too, relationships with most other trolls help push those feelings down though, he also has the odd fascination with things going to shit. kanaya tries to placate the harsher aspects of her moirail/red crush but finds it pretty difficult, she has a thing for feferi and terezi but tries pushing those feelings down because she's meant to be the more moral troll and not let feelings blind her. nepeta escaped the caverns with gamzee's help, hangs out with equius most of the time - she does have a cat pushing a glass off a table mentality like gamzee however. equius owns a farm, he takes good care of the former lusii in his care, nepeta helped hook him up with that line of work and he takes it very seriously, he tries to maintain the more dangerous streaks in nepeta and is matesprits with tavros. aradia is another troll who wants to know how bad things can actually get, she's big on flarping and hangs out with her moirail tavros a lot, she doesn't stick to feelings much and tries brushing them off because they get overwhelming quickly, she's pretty close to terezi though. terezi has her fun messing with server boards of the fleet, she fucks with ships and often manages to get helmsmen trolls free pretty frequently, she takes her job as a cyber terrorist semi seriously often spending time flarping between jobs. karkat is in a constant state of irritation with his friends, he cares deeply for them though and wouldn't hesitate to lay his life down - though he will bitch relentlessly and be completely antagonistic about helping anyone. tavros has an accident care of vriska which leads to him getting prosthetics and using psychic manipulation to lead him through times when he's too exhausted to carry on solo, is very close to his friends (excluding vriska and eridan) and tries to hide himself from any form of confrontation.

humans are pretty sporadic and i haven't figured out much for them - hiveswap trolls would take too long to get into too but i'm fine giving bios on them with newer art! still also fine going into characters i've drawn further, though tacenda is light so i'm not too consistent with everything

okay humanstuck thoughts under the cut

i owe a lot of this to @/rhythmic-idealist's kankri/vantasposting bc holy shit theyve got such a big brain (ill link to their individual posts when im on desktop since im using this to keep all my thoughts straight and i agree with most of what they say wholeheartedly)

general status quo stuff:

signless works in an extremely demanding career involving helping others (i'm leaning towards an attorney who works with organizations and does pro bono work), and is also extensively involved in social justice work outside of his job... he is very rarely home

he loves and cares for his children deeply and tries to express it whenever they're face to face, but the couch in his cramped and messy office has seen far too much use over the years for him to have been able to say it enough

his habits of working himself to the point of exhaustion are handily passed down to his kids btw

the kids had to grow up quickly because signless was out of the house so often and so consistently—kankri, who was already pretty high-strung, has to learn to take care of himself and karkat

they grow up near ms firuzeh maryam, who's their pseudoaunt/grandma (she took in a nine year old kavana vantas when she was about twenty), but they just call her ms rosa

they spent a lot of time in the maryam house growing up, with miss rosa's two nieces. porrim is a year older than kankri, while kanaya and karkat are the same age

kankri grows kinda sensitive to people trying to mother him since it rubs against the notion that he's the "adult of the house" and that he can take care of himself and karkat just fine

(and it also kinda underlines the fact that kankri has no idea what he's doing at the best of times)

and ironically enough, kankri becomes overbearing and naggy towards karkat in his own right, which forestalls them becoming close in any brotherly sort of way

they grow up really just... unable to communicate with one another clearly

karkat develops his ornery exterior in response to kankri's constant stream of opinions and frantic attempts at making up for the presence of a guardian in the house

i think there would actually be some really interesting parallels with rose in this au.. maybe i'm drawing from my own experiences as well but i think he'd begin to assume that every time his brother opens his mouth, he's going to criticize karkat

but instead of reacting like rose with the "making yourself more of a puzzle"/passive aggressive stuff, he gets a more defensive/hackles raised/"argue with you before you can argue with me" approach

and the thing is that they do love each other and would take a bullet for the other etc etc etc.. but they don't know how to express it because they've fallen into these shitty patterns

and it really doesn't help that kankri has grown somewhat resentful of signless over the years... that mix of resentment and fear and love gets more extreme and more polar every time signless gets injured during a political demonstration

i think kankri and signless would also be slightly closer than karkat and signless, as signless' job really only started to ramp up when karkat was less than years old and kankri was in his early double digits

kankri autistic btw its word of god (i am god)

karkat has a pet crab. its name is also karkat. he vents his frustrations to it.

i feel like the vantases exemplify both the best and worst parts of their aspects with one another as well... the strength of their bonds keeps them together and grounded, but TOO grounded. [insert Blood rant here]

the Blood rant:

i define Blood as bonds, responsibility, and the "core". if Life is the fertile soil and everything living on a planet's surface, then Blood is the gravitational core of the planet keeping everything together

i also think Blood, Heart, & Mind work in tandem to define a person just as blood serves to connect the pieces of the human body... Heart is the soul and the self, Mind is the application of one's self through active choices (agency), while Blood defines both the self and the choices one makes in greater detail [and, as an aside, Life provides the physical spark of life needed to keep the heart pumping blood]

OKAY wow that got tangential anyways

SO BASICALLY! too much Blood makes you stagnate, so for example:

kankri is split between staying home with karkat or going to college across the country and being truly unbound for the first time in years

another crisis of Blood: signless is caught between his empathy and responsibility to the whole world and his responsibility to his own children

okay so here's more status quo stuff:

the maryam and vantas kids grow up together and its hilarious because you'll see them all together and its just like (girlboss) (girlboss) (physical manlet) (emotional manlet)

the maryam girls are actually miss rosa's nieces but she took them in when they were both pretty young

the pyropes know the vantases well enough considering pyrope senior and sign have known one another from their respective legal practices for years, but they live on the other side of town

the leijons lived in town when kankri and meulin were very young, but they moved and travelled for a long time before coming back and reestablishing their roots

the captors (psii being one of sign's oldest and closest friends) move into town with the peixes family pretty early on though

the condesce is.. a horrible spouse and guardian, to put it plainly. she's very emotionally manipulative and isn't averse to smacking people around, including her own family. she moves herself and her perfect little family into town so she can properly oversee a new business venture close by

feferi is one of the best young swimmers in the country and has a pretty good shot of getting onto the olympic team.. a lot of this drive to be perfect and to be better results from the condesce's unrelenting pressure and thinly veiled resentment throughout her whole life

so yeah psii, )(ic, feferi, and sollux all live together and it's really not great for anyone involved. (meenah ran away years ago, and crashed on aranea's couch for a pretty long while—mituna moved out with latula for college before psii and the condesce got married)

it gets bad to the point of sollux staying with the maryams for two months while the adults try to sort out that absolute clusterfuck and get the divorce proceedings going (meenah finally convinces feferi to get out and come stay with her and aranea for the duration as well)

in terms of relationships i think latula and porrim were really really close in high school, and probably had some kind of unacknowledged thing going on for a while that never actually turned into anything because latula and mituna were going steady

kankri has had a crush on latula for years but never acted on it for similar reasons

meenah still carries a lot of that give no fucks attitude (it's developed moreso as a defense mechanism here) and can't understand why feferi refuses to leave the condesce with her

okay back to VANTAS MANPAIN i also think that karkat feels the weight of a lot of expectations on his shoulders as well

he feels responsible to live up to the example his dad and his brother set, even if it's to his own detriment—and kankri's oblivious rambling about his grades and his teachers and all his clubs certainly aren't helping the matter

kankri is one of those overinvolved kids taking a million AP's while simultaneously shitting on the collegeboard at every single step

hes this super overachiever anal retentive perfectionist type dude and (just as karkat preemptively criticizes others to forestall their criticisms of him only to harshly criticize himself) kankri subconsciously holds the people around him to the same expectations he holds for himself

so karkat also develops this sense of lacking which, in combination with everything else, culminates in self loathing and thinking he has to solve everyone else's problems and getting horribly mad at himself for every little mistake

GOD i have a lot more but lemme post this before i accidentally close out of the app and lose it all

more little details:

vriska's mom and terezi's mom HATE each other like HATE HATE HATE one another it's so bad

karkat wrote a ten page review of my immortal in middle school

jade is one of nepeta's best online friends

sollux can't raise one eyebrow at a time.. karkat gives him so much grief about it

the vantases eat a lot of shitty renditions of persian dishes until karkat learns to cook because literally the only person in the world with a CHANCE of getting KANKRI VANTAS to make an EDIBLE DISH is miss rosa

kanaya is really good at persian dance too but is VERY VERY embarassed to perform in front of people.. however porrim definitely is not

karkat has insomnia while kankri just stays up stupidly late for assignments that really shouldnt be taken that seriously.. but they both have the same rumination/sleep anxiety thing where your brain goes insane with horrible and depressing scenarios as you try to sleep

and more ideas that i thought were interesting but idk how to fit in the context of this au:

signless and disciple getting married pretty late in life after having been in love for years, the vantases move in with the leijons and karkat suddenly has two sisters

nepeta and karkat are both juniors at this point, meulin is probably in her third year at a local college nearby while kankri is about to start his second year at a university pretty far away

the kids in general honestly but ill figure it out

more random hcs this time with kids:

kanaya and rose get into a flame war online that gradually settles into elaborate courtship rituals

also nepeta + jade online besties

also bec can inexplicably still teleport

the first sbahj movie comes out and the next six months of dave strider junior's high school career are absolute hell

actually hc that dave senior goes by d strider professionally. the d stands for a lot of things

aradia and dave frequent a lot of the same forums but never end up really interacting

meanwhile karkat and john frequent a lot of the same forums and DEFINITELY end up interacting. this turns into grudging (at least on karkat's part) friendship after they find themselves fighting for their lives defending an objectively shitty movie together on the same thread

Karkat discovers something new about the humans.

“What’s that?”

Dave looked up, pausing his incessant scribbling for a moment. It really was good art. Great art in fact. Maybe even some of his best. He raised an eyebrow at Karkat, who was staring intently at his face.

“What’s what?” he asked, turning his attention back to his drawings. He would have to show them to Rose. Surely she would appreciate his hard work. “If you can’t tell, I’m kind of in the middle of something here.”

“ ‘Something’ being drawing more dicks all over our only source of information on this godforsaken meteor you mean,” Karkat scoffed. “Can’t you keep your perverse fantasies to yourself?”

“Shut up, this is art.” Dave pulled his headphones down, hanging them around his neck. He turned in his chair to face him. “What do you even want?”

“I was trying to ask you what those weird little dots on your face are.”

Dave raised an eyebrow. “Um, dude, what?”

“Those dots.” Karkat moved forward, and without any warning poked Dave’s cheeks. Dave liked to think of himself as a pretty chill dude, sophisticated, put together, but hell if he didn’t freeze up at that simple touch like an intellectually challenged deer in the face of oncoming motor lights. “You have them all over your face. At first I thought it was another dumb human thing, but Egbert doesn’t have them so again I ask, what are they?”

Dave recovered from his momentary lapse and pushed Karkat’s hands away, his face resuming its neutral position. “You mean my freckles?”

“What are freckles?”

Dave grabbed the back of his neck, struggling to think of a way to explain it. “It’s like… little dots on your face caused by the sun.”

“The sun marks your face?” Karkat looked horrified. “Does it hurt?”

“Nah, not really. You don’t even feel it. They just kind of appear suddenly.”

Karkat leaned back, crossing his arms. “How come Egbert doesn’t have them then, if they’re caused by your human sun?”

“It only happens to some people,” Dave explained. “Like, with lighter skin and all that.”

Karkat frowned at him for a moment. His head was tilted slightly to one side, examining him. Dave shifted under his gaze, feeling a bit too much like a science specimen. “What?”

But Karkat didn’t say anything, only stared. The silence was a bit weird in and of itself. To distract himself from it, Dave went back to his drawing. He traced over some of his previous lines, adding in details and shading, and by the time he looked up again, Karkat was gone.

For a while the matter was forgotten. Dave came up with new raps and Karkat wrote his weird fanfiction and the Mayor drew them both into architectural masterpieces involving many cans and several of Rose’s books which said sister in question was less than happy about. Life on the meteor was boring, not a single life-threatening occurrence aside form the occasional ominous HONK from the vents, and while it seemed totally uneventful to some, Dave thought it was kind of nice. They hadn’t had boring in so long. With Jack not constantly on their trails, they could just relax, hang out as friends. Dave spent more time with Rose and even helped her arrange some of her dates and write passive aggressive, euphemism filled love notes to Kanaya (Kanaya herself was not as happy about his involvement as some). He got to know Terezi better and together they honed each other’s skills—Terezi gave Dave tips on some of his drawings and Dave engaged Terezi in many a laborious and dildo-themed rap battle. The mayor was, of course, rad. As always.

And Karkat…

He had never expected things to go the way it had with Karkat. He hadn’t even liked Karkat when he first came to the meteor. The two had been at each other’s throats constantly, so much so that Rose had made many suggestions as to the true color of their relationship. But after a while… he wasn’t sure. Things calmed down. It seemed silly after a while to antagonize each other over things that had felt so important a while ago, but now seemed dumb and inconsequential.

And then the kiss had happened. It had been sudden and unexpected and somehow completely right in the moment. The two of them had stared for a moment, frozen and dumb in the face of it all, and then Karkat had leaned forward once more and everything had locked into pace.

They began dating soon after that. They didn’t have a big announcement or anything, but living on a meteor in close quarters with each other like they were, it didn’t take long for everyone to find out. They were met with raised eyebrows whenever they excused themselves to ‘work on art’ as they called it, and Dave had quickly excused himself from an awkward and graphic conversation Rose had attempted to have with him on whether or not they were using a pail or a condom.

They were comfortable. Dave had never felt so at home with someone, nor had he ever expected someone’s rants to become so familiar. It was nice.

They were on Dave’s bed when the conversation topic finally resurfaced. Dave lay in only a pair of boxers on his side, his preferred sleeping method. He tended to find pants too restrictive. Karkat didn’t understand how he could sleep so exposed but Dave insisted it helped him connect with his body. Karkat had then made a jerking off jab and the conversation had devolved from then.

That particular day, Dave found himself in the comfy stage in-between sleep and consciousness. Karkat’s body was warm against him, and his hair was crushed haphazardly against the pillow. His eyes were closed and was about to fall back asleep when he felt a soft touch gently trace along his shoulder blades.

“You have them on your back too.”

“What?” Dave grumbled, swatting lazily at the touch. Karkat ignored him, continuing to poke and trace his skin.

“The freckles,” Karkat explained. His voice was wondering, a soft innocence as he traced constellations with the spots on his back. “They’re on your back too.”

He drew a line through his shoulder blades and down the curve of his spine, the action idle and curious. If Dave was being honest, a rare occurrence, he found the troll’s interest sort of cute. Not that he would ever say anything.

“They’re sort of everywhere,” Dave explained sleepily. The gentle tracing was doing nothing to help his drowsy state. He drew in a yawn, pressing his face into the pillow. His next words were mumbled as he said, “Can you stop that, it’s super annoying.”

“Make me,” Karkat growled, but Dave had no such intentions. It did feel kind of nice and before he knew it he found himself asleep again, snoring gently. Karkat rolled his eyes at the noises. It was kind of fitting how even in sleep Dave wouldn’t shut up. He continued drawing lines in between the pale dots, connecting them into various shapes.

Sometimes he found it hard to believe they had created the humans. Often this was because the humans were dumb and loud and unbelievably vulnerable to things like death and stabbing, but other times it was because of beautiful things like this that made his breath stop short. He wrapped his arms around Dave, burying his face into the back of his neck and feeling at ease for once in his life.

How could he have possibly created someone like Dave who held the multitude of the galaxy on his back?

for a short answer: i personally hc all the human girls as being attracted to the same gender on some level and it’s canon that trolls don’t really have sexualities the way we do. so! assuming they like the girl back, i think all the girls would be receptive and happy with a girl liking them. for a more specific headcanons, see under the cut.

💜 rose tries so hard to play it cool, she really does. she has all these really cool one liners and suave pick up lines saved, but the minute you begin talking to her all bets are off. emotions and sincerity are really not rose’s forte, but she does make an effort for you. she’s very flustered whenever you broach the subject, but tries her damndest not to show it. this may result in rose coming off as colder and more verbose than usual, but don’t be put off! she’s just nervous, ha ha.

💚 jade is really surprised when she finds out you like her. she’d been trying to subtly flirt with you for a while, but that had mostly turned into her getting heart eyes whenever you talk and looking like--well, a lovesick puppy. as soon as she catches wind that you like her, she’s ready to confront you and hopefully move from there. despite her previous unlucky relationships, jade tends to tread on the side of optimism and has high hopes for your future together.

💙 jane is completely beside herself. we see how flustered she gets when the subject is brought up with jake, but when she’s being confessed to?? her brain short circuits. after the conversation, jane might avoid you for a little bit due to embarassment, but with a little reassurance she’ll come around. at the end of the day, she’s just so overwhelmed and happy that you like her back.

💗 roxy is immediately stoked. she’s got so much love to give, and cannot wait to share it with you! prepare for lots of affection from roxy; cuddles and wonks are frequent. you can’t really blame her though. she’s smitten and thrilled you like her back. don’t expect her to be very public about your blossoming relationship, though. while roxy may gush and be lovey-dovey when the two of you are alone, she prefers to keep matters of the heart more private.

❤️ aradia’s all smiles. she’s visibly happy, probably taking your hands tightly between her own. she’s not shy in verbally confirming her excitement either. aradia starts opening up a little more; she’s showing off one the more impressive bones in her collection when you realize this. it wasn’t bragging. it was an invitation into aradia’s world, so to speak. at any rate, your interest makes aradia feel warm inside.

💚 nepeta is beyond thrilled. she immediately updates her shipping wall to display her newly canonized otp. deep down, nepeta is very lonely; that’s the entire reason she’s so invested in relationships. knowing you like her is like a dream come true! if you haven’t already confessed, rps will probably start getting suspiciously flirty, lol. subtlety doesn’t come easy for nepeta, and it’s even harder when she likes you so much!

💚 kanaya has to do a double take. she hadn’t really thought that her attempts at flirting had… worked?? but here you are. liking her. blood rushes to kanaya’s cheeks at the very thought. anyway, kanaya’s all in at the thought of being with you; dates are planned quickly. assuming you’re on a planet with non-lethal sunlight, happy sunshine picnic dates with your vampire girlfriend are frequent.

💙 terezi likes to play around before getting to the heart of the matter, so she’ll probably flirt with you for a little bit before officiating any relationship with you. terezi just loves the scent of your chagrin when she teases you! it might take a while for her to actually open up to you though. terezi’s had a difficult past where romance is concerned, so be patient with her.

💙 vriska will probably try cajoling you into making the first move. except she’s not exactly subtle, so it’s super obvious that your crush on her is reciprocated. there are probably a lot of shenanigans leading up to the actual confession: that just comes with the vriska package. kinda random but later on in your guys’ relationship i could see vriska bouncing her various plots and schemes off of you. intentionally or not, you’ll become the person who makes sure all her irons in the fire aren’t getting too hot.

💗 feferi is SO GLUBBING -EXIT-ED!!! 38D it may take a few moments of giggling before feferi’s calmed enough to really talk. but when she does, it’s all about you. she wants to know what you’re thinking, what’s going through your head. feferi’s just a bit concerned is all. her history of dating cagey, grumpy boys has forced feferi into a habit of being pushy about feelings. bare with her, though, she means well. also probably a big hugger.

❤️ damara is suspicious, at first. she’s been severely jilted in the past, and this has negatively affected her outlook on future relationships. damara will come on super strong to scare you off make sure you’re serious about her and not in it for the wrong reasons. once she’s decided that you’re trustworthy, damara will take things very slow. she’ll want to spend a lot of time with you, being soft and getting to know each other.

💚 meulin is excited, but inside she’s a little nervous. similar to damara, meulin has been unlucky in love in the past. for as much as she loves love, she had made her peace with it not being in the cards for her future. your confession definitely makes her happy, don’t get me wrong! but she’s also worried and waiting for some tragedy to befall the two of you. be patient with meulin; she just doesn’t want to lose somebody she cares about as much as you. <3

💚 porrim is much happier than she lets on. secretly, she’d worried that her.. salacious reputation had scared you off. she won’t need much reassurance, though. just your presence is enough to comfort porrim and remind her that others’ opinions don’t matter. you ground her, in that way. i could see porrim being a little protective of you too; she might fuss over your scarf when it’s cold out or be really into helping you time manage or something like that.

💙 latula’s knee jerk reaction is to throw up a palm for the r4dd3st high five, but thought better of it when she remembered her steel palm. if she trusts you with her heart, then latula will likely trust you enough to at least partially drop the cool girl facade. latula’s ultra supportive, too. whether it’s verbal encouragement, a hand on the small of your back while walking, or even just a smile, latula never lets you forget that she’s got you, through thick and thin.

💙 aranea is a bit smug. she was sure this day would come sooner or later, it was only a matter of when. that doesn’t stop her from being elated, though! which she immediately begins to wax poetic about, haha. aranea probably keeps a diary or two, in which you are a recurring theme. this is a little random, but in private i could see aranea being a fan of giving & receiving surprise kisses.

💗 if aranea is a little smug, then meenah is smug as fuck. of course you like her back; what’s not to like? homegull’s got it going on! the two of you will quickly become partners in crime (if you weren’t already), with you as meenah’s right hand gal. despite the bad bitch/take charge attitude meenah has, yours would be pretty much the only opinion she values higher than her own. though she may have a reputation to uphold, meenah thinks of you as her strongest ally.

Fixing the Homestuck Epilogues To Give my S/I’s Story the Prologue it Deserves

Part 1: Relationships

First of All CallieRoxy is SO Real

Rosemary Exists Too Because Duh

Second: Turns out that when Dave had that conversation towards the end of Homestuck where he basically tried to come out to John (and then John asked if he and Karkat were dating and Karkat changed the subject) It turns out that what Dave was TRYING to do was confess to John with Karkat as his WINGMAN

So Dave confesses to John and John is like “Sure I’m willing to try dating!” and they actually have a great time for a while? But the thing is that John’s way of dating is kind of weird and lukewarm? Like, he LOVES cuddling Dave and kissing him on the cheek but he’s also super oblivious to anything more?

Meanwhile Karkat has HUGE crushes on like. Both of them? And eventually he gets in on it too but because of John’s weird obliviousness “It” is mostly just sleeping in a cuddle pile every night, and that’s not bad. John and Dave are still the only ones who are technically dating, but he seems to have no sense of like. Wondering what’s actually going on. He just kind of IS and he’s happy to be there with Karkat too.

Also: The Strilondes and Crockengharlberts have these family movie nights where they hang out with each other in their different family groups. Kanaya and Calliope usually hang out with the Strilondes, while Karkat hangs out with the other four. This helps Jane get over her distrust of trolls.

FIVE YEARS AFTER THE GAME ENDS They all go fight Lord English (Karkat, Kanaya, and Calliope stay behind.) The Alpha kids get stranded in Caliborn’s room, but not for long, since the Beta kids travel back when they finish killing LE. They bring Terezi, Vriska, and Davepeta, who they found in the Void when they were fighting.

Then Things Get Weird because it’s pretty obvious that John and Terezi have sexual tension? So John Dave and Karkat have a feelings jam. And John describes what he feels for different people, and they realize that John is aromantic, but has sexual attraction. He is NOT sexually attracted to Dave or Karkat, but he still wants to be with them. Dave says that he USED to feel attracted to John that way, but actually dating him has turned the way he loves him into something else. So John officially has a bigamous QPR with both Dave and Karkat, and Dave and John give each other permission to sleep with other people.

SO John and Terezi start fucking (caliginously), and Dave and Karkat follow soon after. So JohnDaveKat is real, but Dave and Karkat are Red, and Aromantic John is A Physically Affectionate Pale with both of them.

Around This Time John also realized that the feelings he had for Vriska were Gender Envy and not Romance and begins her Epic Juneification.

ALSO Jade and Davepeta are Dating

In addition there’s just. A SHIT TON of Giant Friend Group Dynamics that I feel are generally understated? Like. These people hang out in big groups and have sleepovers every night and hug and tease each other and make everybody feel included and loved. Jade and Jake are best friends, Dirk and Calliope write shitty fanfiction together and try to outdo each other in terms of Pure Shittiness, Jane would KILL for Karkat, Vriska, June, and Terezi hang out and pull pranks like the shit goblins they are...and it’s just. So good.

ALSO THEY ALL LIVE IN THE SAME GIANT MANSION I feel like that’s important context. They live in a mansion. They are roommates.

The Cancer King's Court ~ The Humans

Dave Strider, Rose Lalonde, and Jade Harley/The Crimson Defender, The Lady Clairvoyant, and The Witch Scientist.

This version of Dave Strider came very close to becoming Davesprite in his timeline. Up until his final conversation with Rose.

Dave can’t stand the thought of leaving Rose to die all alone by herself. He’d grown close to her after spending so long with her in a doomed timeline. He couldn’t bare to lose her. So, he gets an idea.

If he goes God-Tier, he could potentially bring Rose back in time with him. So, Dave puts off time traveling back in exchange for reaching his quest bed. Upon going God-Tier, Dave brings Rose with him back in time to save her life, seeing how he can now just fly over to her planet and pick her up.

The two explain their situation to their doppelgangers, causing them both to pester John to try and stop him from following Terezi’s advice. Like in canon, John reconsiders and manages to avoid dying. God-Tier Dave is now able to steamroll the challenges of LOHAC with ease, guiding everyone and their counterparts to their quest beds so that they can reach God-Tier as well. Ultimately, this seems like the best case scenario…. until everyone discovers the timeline is now doomed.

Simply put, Dave was supposed to become Davesprite and Rose was supposed to be left behind. Because that didn’t happen, Paradox Space judged the session to be void.

This effects Dave more than he lets on, since it was his decision to take Rose with him in the first place. Both Roses are able to sus this out pretty easily, even as he tries to bottle it up, and they motivate John, Jade, and Other Dave to comfort him. The Roses conclude that the Horrorterrors may be able to help them, so they go to them for guidance.

The Horrorterrors remember a similar situation with one of their “chosen”, so they inform The Invincible Heir of the situation. Equius gets Karkat to bring him and Nepeta in to investigate. After seeing how well they’ve managed to ace their session, the Meowrails decide it would be a good idea to get some of them to join the Court.

Equius approaches the Roses first, believing them to be “human highbloods of proper breeding and stature” that he can easily approach. While they mistake his mannerisms for humility at first, they quickly put the pieces together and explain, no, humans don’t have a caste system. Nepeta takes Equius aside so he can recuperate and the two come back after a moment. They explain that they may have a means of salvaging their doomed timeline. However, it would require some morally dubious actions.

While the moirails do preface the info with the knowledge that all these atrocities will be undone, the Roses are still pretty horrified. They meet up with humans to discuss this and, at first, it seems like everyone is in favor of rejecting the offer outright. Until Dave speaks up. He and Rose came from a doomed timeline because John was manipulated. They ended up landing right in another one because Dave trying to save his only remaining friend was arbitrarily declared a mistake. Who’s to say that this isn’t happening to thosands of other versions of them across the multiverse?

Rose recognizes he’s only saying this to vent out his guilt and counters that they have no way of knowing if the offer is legitimate. Equius and Nepeta’s explanation sounded almost cultish from their perspective, after all. Dave immediately concedes and almost finds himself confessing how much all of this is weighing on him.

Then John and Jade raise their points. If these guys are willing to kill thousands of people, what will they do to them if they refuse the offer? A doubly valid point, seeing how the Court specifically targets God-Tiers.

Silence reigns over the humans. Equius and Nepeta had been so polite that they hadn’t even considered how pressed up against the wall they were.

So, they change gears into figuring out a plan to beat the Cancer King’s Court.

Dave, Rose, and Jade decide to go undercover. Pretending to agree to the offer so that they could find intel to Other Dave, Other Rose, and John. After all, the Court would probably be interested in having a Time Player, a Space Player, and a Seer on their team. The home team would still have two of those advantages at least, so their not losing much.

Dave, Rose, and Jade meet up with the moirails and say that they agree, on the sole condition that Other Dave, Other Rose, and John are spared. Equius and Nepeta agree and the three and inducted in.

Karkat doesn’t buy this for a second.

From what he remembers, the humans are a lot more intolerant of morally dubious actions. So, he decides to test their loyalty. He sends the three of them to gather up a bunch of God-Tiers for him to absorb, sending Gamzee with them so he can poke and prod at their minds all the while. Gamzee reports back that they’re spies after reading their minds and asks permission to kill them. Karkat shuts that down and chews him out for it. He instead takes the humans aside so he can convince them.

Firstly, he proves his intentions to them by making a big show of reviving a timeline left destroyed by Lord English in front of the whole Court, instructing them to act like this is a normal thing. He allows the destoyed civilizations within to rebuild and guides them to prosper. Then, he shows them what The Condescension is capable of with her current power, letting them witness how she bends fate to her will. If he has that power, he could not only fix their doomed timelines, but save all doomed timelines everywhere.

He leaves them to think things over and immediately begins indoctrinating the revived timeline into his army. Another pawn towards his end game. They are indebted to their King, after all.

From the humans perspective, however, he made incredibly valid points. He revived an entire timeline, showing that his good intentions are genuine. Plus, the Condescension shows just what kind of horrific evil he’s up against and the kind of power he’ll have by the end of it. That last note leaves Rose hesitant. Power corrupts, after all. Dave and Jade are a lot more trusting, out of desperation and naivety respectively.

But, all the same, they know their friends probably won’t accept this. Rose elects to be the one to give the intel. They all agree, she’s the only one capable of lying to them. Even if it hurts like hell.

The Humans play the same role in the Court as Tavros does. People are more inclinded to trust them, so they’re good for gathering up God-Tiers. And, if they need to drag those God-Tiers in by force, a Time Player and a Space Player are hard to beat.

The Humans get along well with the trolls, all things considered. It helps that they couldn’t spend much time with them and are going in with a mostly clean slate.

The sole exception is Dave and Terezi. After all, Terezi is the whole reason Dave’s timeline was doomed. Terezi is willing to accept full responsibility, however, and apologizes for what her counterpart did in his timeline.

The two are able to get past that eventually, but Terezi soon starts asking some uncomfortable questions.

“JOHN’S TRUST 1N YOU S4V3D H1S L1F3. DON’T YOU F33L… D1RTY B3TR4Y1NG H1M L1K3 TH1S?”

“ok but like i’m not though. he’ll understand that. …he has to.”

How much of that is The Hung Jury and how much is Main Terezi, I’ll leave up to you.

Conversations between Rose and Kanaya are awkward here. Their romance was a bit of a boil. Rose barely knows this Kanaya, which throws her through a loop given they’re narried married in this timeline. The whole thing is rather surreal for both of them.

Ironically, the troll Rose spends most of her time with is Gamzee. Gamzee insists on having “smart sister poke around in this thinkpan of mine”. While Rose enjoys psycho analyzing him, that’s not what he’s there for. In truth, he’s planting thoughts into her head psionically. Making her side with the King more. He knows she’s the weak link in the human’s loyalty, so he’s going to keep her on lock.

Conversely, Jade spends most of her time with Tavros. They bond over a shared love of animals and over their timelines getting screwed for actions well outside their control. It helps that Tav is still nursing his crush on her. She’s lucky Gamzee hasn’t noticed.

To the King, the humans are among him most effective enforcers. If only their friends could see them now…

also I’m torn at the thought that dave is just thinking he fucked up because he wanted to save everyone even the doomed ones and he believes it’s his fault for making this doomed timeline I'm ;0;

also i’d like to think that john, double rose and double dave definitely knows somethings the Fuck Up (or at least rose and dave, john on the sense that he knows his friends are definitely more antsy around them now) and also that they hang out and converse a lot just being “left alone” in that timeline while their friends go obey king karkat’s orders. i mean they wouldn’t just SIT there, not dave or especially rose, so I bet they’d also kinda go out in the furthest ring in their timeline to try and find some info on cancer king while their friends are away. and then they might become a threat....

i mixed the three into kinda “team uniforms” because i’d imagine as being humans and having a very bad relationship with trolls in general (hello john almost dying called?? they want their timeline back) and when they first joined it kinda inforced on them that they’re a team collecting info for their friends back in the other timeline and looking like BFF gang with their stupid cool hoodies and jeans (lol!)

I’m loving the DaveJade spree you’re reblogging right now because as I read Homestuck I came to realize that DaveJade is the best Human x human ship in the comic. Both characters look out for each other, but with opposite ways if expressing it. Jade is much more energetic and giddy in her talks with other characters, replying to other characters with a “<3” at the end of their conversations, taking an interest with Dave the most, getting all flowery referring to him as “cool kid” meanwhile Dave is more stoic and level and goes on tangents a out Bec and her living surroundings, but still enjoys deeply participating in Jade’s interests and company. Dave sent Jade a SBAHJ furry poster for god’s sake, he did furry roleplay, he let Jade take his life in her hands to enter his session (even if he really wanted Jade to stay awake during the whole thing.)

And the second part is how they cover up their true feelings, Jade is normally optimistic and cryptic from her visions of the future, and stays open eyed and brave during most of the first half of the comic, until she’s pushed to the brink such as meeting Jadesprite, and more important here, Dave’s session beginning. Dave took the process deadly seriously (AS HE SHOULD) and that led to Jade becoming a little frustrated, but ultimately complicit and concentrated on Dave’s apartment, since she really knew Dave needed to be safe and was a major responsibility.

Dave as I already expressed, shows affection by what he does, not what he says. He did all these things nice for Jade and wanted to generally just hang around on pesterchum with her, but usually went on tangents over things Jade surrounded herself with because he was never really raised to be open about emotions, he was raised by the greatest mall ninja in the history of the universe, emotions could be a weakness by bro’s code, he has to be a straight up super skilled knight to even be ready for the shitshow of Sburb, not a kid with a crush. But after all the hell Bro gave to make him ready, all the dead Daves, all the ironic back and forth between him and John and taunting by Lil Cal, Dave still had feelings, because he’s human.

And Dave can confess emotions, even if ironic, Dave did sarcastically tell John how much he was “totally fine” with Bro’s smuppets and even in a conversation back in Act 2 or 3 straight up said “I love you” to John, only because he’d hope John would cast off the confession as an ironic and jokey “bro thing” the two were having between each other (and to be fair John did dismiss this ironic cinfession)

To wrap it all up Dave is a bisexual hero, and despite the surface level DaveJade being very “preppy girl loves mysterious stoic guy” archetype Dave and Jade have complexities beyond their surface level personalities and quirks, DaveJade is better than Davekat.

People take Jade being a bitch too seriously and think she had always been like this. The nu-fandom forgets that at that point, she had to deal with a rude Karkat, and her access to Prospit's knowledge were gone. So she was on her own what to do and her future was left in the fate of Skaia. And she would soon be MIND CONTROLLED by The Condesce as Grimbark. It's not fully her personality if someone is taking over. But I guess people think people who were mind controlled TOTALLY CONSENTED to do those horrible deed. Just ask Jade, Sollux, Tavros, Terezi, and all those dead trolls that were fed to Vriska's mom. And if people think her moments of narcolepsy (sleeping moments) would lead to Dave getting killed when she tried to help him, people forget that it was still VRISKA purposely making her sleep. It was intentional that she uses Jade to test her mind power abilities to put humans to sleep to gauge how strong she can do it before using it on John to fully create her unstoppable monster, Bec Noir. If anything, it was Vriska's fault she made Jade fall asleep many times because she was using her as a TEST SUBJECT. But sadly, this is the fandom that thinks Vriska did nothing wrong.

This is my classpect master post for Danganronpa 1! I just replayed the game so it’s fresh in my mind, and I tried to keep these fairly short so I cut out some of the smaller details. Feel free to tell me what you like or what you don’t. I will be reblogging with thoughts about Touko and Genocider Sho. Also check out @jinjojess post about the DR1 classpects! I compared a lot of my thoughts with theirs!

Naegi Makoto - Witch of Heart

-actively manipulates feelings and sense of self. He is not very confident in himself, we know this from the beginning, and I think that manifests as acting as a Seer of Mind pretty often. It gets him pretty far in the trials, but his true talent lies in getting people on his side. Sayaka was into him before she even talked to him, and throughout the game people come to him for help concerning things to do with emotions and sense of self (Touko & Byakuya, Kiyotaka & Mondo twice). Not to mention, he’s labelled “ultimate hope”, which is due to him being able to boost everyone’s spirits (change their mood).

Asahina Aoi - Sylph of Hope

-passively heals positivity, possibilities, and beliefs. I really wanted to go with life for her, but while she’s full of energy, she’s not all that concerned about growth or overcoming obstacles, she just wants things to turn out well and that’s more in the realm of positivity and possibility. When Sakura’s secret was out, Aoi was most concerned with how to get the rest of them to believe her and to believe in Sakura; she needed to heal the group’s faith. She consistently believes in everyone, even though she is frequently disappointed, and the only exception to this is Byakuya and Touko after they insult Sakura.

Togami Byakuya - Prince of Life

-actively destroys growth and energy. His manner is very, very prince-like, “I’m the best and I can’t understand why no one else sees that”, not to mention he’s basically a literal prince of his family. He’s very quick to shoot people down and destroy their spirit, their energy, and during investigations he’s either no help at all, or antagonistic. All of the life players we’ve seen in HS have been on top of the food chain, the Peixes blood color and Jane’s Crocker corporation, which are both comparable to the Togami family. Before the killing game, he was most concerned with growing stocks, owning businesses, and obtaining knowledge he will use when he is the monarch of his family, which all seem life-like.

Celestia Ludenburg - Heir of Void

-passively changes misfortune and secrets. Originally I had her as light, but she doesn’t really care about information, only keeping secrets. She doesn’t use fortune to her favor, instead she just *is* luckier than the others, i.e. changing everyone else’s misfortune. She’s not actually that active though- she doesn’t do it on purpose and she doesn’t do a lot in general as she prefers to get others to do stuff for her. But she does play into the heiress persona, changing her name to seem like nobility and wanting dozens of servants.

Fujisaki Chihiro - Page of Doom

-actively exploits and is served restrictions and suffering. She is very clearly doom, as she is very empathetic due to her suffering in life, in addition to being a programmer when doom is linked to coding. I really can’t see anything else. Her being a page is also pretty clear- a slow growing class that tends to put up a facade, and is linked to a servant archetype when Alter Ego was basically the team’s servant. Her main desire is to help the rest of them even after her death through the restrictions that Alter Ego has.

Yamada Hifumi - Rogue of Light

-passively steals information and substance. I considered a number of possibilities for him, settling on light first. He has the rambley, self-important dialogue of a light player, he collects information about his interests in anime and fanfiction, and he creates fanfic. While creation isn’t light specific, taking the info and substance from an anime and rehashing it into his own stories sounds like a rogue of light. He is later a servant to Celeste, who feeds him lies and misfortune; he could be called a Page of Void at that point, which is fitting with Celestia’s void aspect.

Ishimaru Kiyotaka - Knight of Time

-passively exploits and serves through time. He’s very strict about time, being on time and using time wisely. Not just for himself though, he wants everyone to hold the same policies he has. He wants to have an environment where everyone is able to give it their all- he wants to exploit the time he has in order to serve everyone. His inversion is Thief of Space, and I think we see this in “Kiyondo Ishida”, as he seems to steal Alter Ego’s creation to add another dimension to himself. And- this is just my opinion- I also think he ghosts his inversion pretty often even before that, due to the impact of the disreputation of his grandfather and his vehement dislike of “geniuses”.

Kirigiri Kyouko - Maid of Mind

-actively creates and heals logic and decisions. She eluded me for a while tbh. I thought light first, but while she focuses on finding the truth, other information isn’t as important, and she doesn’t seem to match any other markers of light. Instead she seems more like Terezi, a mind player who likes law and detective work. Kyouko creates a path of decisions that surround a crime, and she uses logic to help Makoto make the right choices. She is outwardly cold and focuses on controlling her emotions, which makes me suspect she ghosts her inversion as a Bard of Heart due to her lost sense of self.

Kuwata Leon - Rogue of Breath

-passively steals and relocates freedom and direction. I understand him to have only come into himself recently. I think for most of his life he was ghosting as a Page of Blood, getting served bonds and obligations that he didn’t really want but exploiting them so he was free to do things other than study. When he was accepted at Hope’s Peak, he finally took his freedom and decided that he was going to do what he was driven to do, which is pursuing music. Rogue also fits into the outcast archetype of his alternative/punk style of clothes and personality.

Oowada Mondo - Bard of Blood

-passively destroys bonds and obligations. Blood is everything to him, his brother and his gang are most important, and his word and his promises are solid. But his brother died for his recklessness, he lied about it, he killed Chihiro which exposed her secret even though he tried to cover it up, and he broke Taka’s spirit when he died. He destroys the bonds around him passively, without meaning to, and his secret and his act of killing were both fairly out of the blue. No one really expected that of him- certainly not Kiyotaka, and that fits a bard’s MO.

Oogami Sakura - Maid of Blood

-actively creates relationships and bonds. She is defined by her bond to her family and her bond to her destiny. She is devoted to growing stronger, which made me think life, but she’s growing stronger to fulfill her duty and keep the respect of her family, not to overcome obstacles. That aspect though, the desire to help everyone else become stronger too, that’s very maid/sylph. She’s fairly passive, but definitely not passive enough for sylph, and she tends to focus more on creating new bonds especially regarding ones with herself, rather than healing preexisting ones.

Maizono Sayaka - Mage of Void

-actively knows misfortune and secrets. She tells Makoto that she’s known from a young age that she will have to do anything to reach her dreams, and she acts on her understanding of that misfortune which leads to her death. She focuses more on the misfortune and nothingness part of void, acutely understanding that if she falls out of relevancy, she’s done for. She also jokes with Makoto about being a psychic, knowing his unheard thoughts, which plays into the prophet archetype of a Mage, and knowing the unknown.

**Fukawa Touko & Genocider Sho - Page of Heart & Bard of Heart

-actively exploits and is served emotions and self-identity. Touko… has some issues. She is very concerned about herself, who she is, and how she’s perceived, which is the trademark of a heart player. She is actually good at using emotions to get what she wants. She gets people to stay away from her but also be concerned about her at the same time, not to mention she managed to get Byakuya to let her tail him around which I still don’t understand how. She keeps a strong facade up due to her insecurities and necessary caution due to Genocider Sho.

-passively destroys sense of self and emotions. Sho destroys emotions in a literal sense, by killing anyone she “crushes” on, and she destroys Toko’s sense of self through emotions by leaving her to come to at murder scenes, therefore forcing her to stay paranoid and keep a huge secret. Doesn’t really do it intentionally, as Sho tells Makoto that it’s the same thing as a soccer player kicking a ball, it’s just nature.

Hagakure Yasuhiro - Seer of Hope

-passively understands possibilities and beliefs. Even when he’s pessimistic, he’s optimistic by everyone else’s standards. He is always able to see some better possibility… whether it’s true or whether others believe him remains to be seen. He definitely fits the somewhat far-fetched but unshakable beliefs profile that Hope players have. And he’s definitely knowledgeable about his, uh, profession in a way that seers usually are.

Ikusaba Mukuro - Knight of Space

-passively exploits and serves through space. This was a hard one, partly because we don’t see a lot of her, so it’s long; I used a lot of process of elimination and, well, vibes. Space is about physical matter, size and location, creation, and beginnings. At an early age, she ditched her family in Europe in order to join an elite mercenary group in the Middle East. She is extremely proficient in hand-to-hand, melee, and ranged combat, though she admits that she was never good at planning ahead and strategizing. She was also able to accurately portray Junko, the Ultimate Fashionista. Those three things point me towards space, as her past is about location and beginnings, ranged weapons are about distance, planning ahead is about time which is her opposite, and acting as her sister is an act of creation and physicality, not to mention that clothes have a link to the space aspect as well. Most of the classes don’t really fit her, but the little personality she has is devoted to serving her sister, serving her organization before that, and in DR IF, serving Makoto. Knights are also fighters, obviously.

Enoshima Junko - Thief (Lord?) of Rage

-actively steals rage and limitations. Junko is a lot. Just, a lot. I’m actually leaning towards giving her the “Lord” title because honestly, the level of embodiment that she has over the rage aspect is unparalleled. But I just don’t know enough about the master classes for me to feel comfortable enough with that. So I’m going with thief instead. She definitely gets off on everyone else’s despair and sets them up so they have limited possibilities in the killing game. She takes from them and takes from them and leaves them with some hope just to finally steal that too.

Sollux captor: Hes probably very touch starved and isn’t used to cuddles, but likes them either way. He’d be the big spoon but secretly wants to be the little spoon. otherwise he likes sleeping back to back with you, just barely touching.

Nepeta leijon: Shes very excited to cuddle with you! They’re very big on cuddles and kisses and love in general. she’d love to be the little spoon. otherwise she’d lay ontop of you while you rest on your back.

Kanaya maryam: She’d definitely love being the big spoon and just holding you in general. She also loves the honeymoon cuddle, facing eachother. she thinks it’s really intimate and perfectly suited for the two of you.

Terezi pyrope: She wouldn’t care if she was big or little spoon. She probably likes it when the both of you are all tangled up in eachother, arms and legs wrapped around eachother like koalas to a tree.

Gamzee makara: Hed be the big OR little spoon. but he wants to cuddle however *you* wanna cuddle, he just wants his lil’ matesprit to be happy. If he had to pick a position though, it’d be him wrapped around you like you’re a pole.

Eridan ampora: Hes definitely touch starved and has never cuddled before he met you. You’re his first, so he doesn’t know what to do. he’d be the little spoon. otherwise he likes to hold your hands and nuzzle into your stomach, chest, or shoulder.

Feferi peixes: She doesn’t care if she’s the big or little spoon, as long as she gets to spend time with you! she loves to face you so she can lean in and give you little kisses.
