Return to Dream Land (on account of just being remade) and games that originally released on the Switch have not been included.
My own opinion is in the tags, for those interested!
#kirby#kirby nightmare in dream land#kirby's dream land 2#kirby super star ultra#kirby's dream land 3#kirby 64 the crystal shards#kirby and the amazing mirror#kirby squeak squad#kirby triple deluxe#kirby planet robobot#kirby air ride#the games seem to have a trend of being remade ~12 years after they were first released so TECHNICALLY the 3ds games are too recent for tha#but whatever! i had the space for more options so i put them there#and i really only wanted to include the mainline games but i think i remember hearing a lot about people wanting an air ride remake#so it gets to be special and be here! dgdhshsf. never actually played it myself though#i also didn't plan on including the games that already had remakes but again i had space in the poll so! why not?#i voted amazing mirror personally!#the game was made to be multiplayer but that's just. not easy to do#i don't think it was easy when it first released (though admittedly i have no personal experience with that) and it certainly isn't today#but a modern remake would fix that!#yeah yeah i know nintendo's online isn't all that great but it'd still be something! it'd be fun to play it online with my friends!#and if nothing else a split screen local multiplayer would still be great too!#and amazing mirror's plot would lend itself well to an added meta knightmare mode#meta knight defeats dark meta instead of getting sealed away and gets to save the mirror world himself like he had planned to#i do know that amazing mirror should be coming to the gba switch online thing eventually though#so even if it never gets a proper remake i hope that the port will at least add some sort of multiplayer?#that might actually get me to buy the online subscription that includes the gba games dgdhshsf#kirby 64 would be my second choice just because it could use a graphical upgrade the most. 3d models don't age nearly as well as sprites do#only problem is that 64 is part of a trilogy. so it'd be kinda weird if it gets redone but dream land 2 and 3 don't#not a comic or an ask

hello wonderful mutual, may i inquire what shaman king is?
Tumblr media
you've triggered an unskippable cutscene be prepared. was it me calling hana kentacoded that did it for you
shaman king is uh... certainly something
editor's note I go on about the history of the shaman king media franchise for like. way too long and I'm not deleting it so. plot summary starts after the flowers anime image
it started out as a shonen adventure manga created by a mangaka named hiroyuki takei which ran from 1998 to 2004, where it somehow Ate Shit And Died, leaving the manga ending unfinished somehow (idk I wasn't there)
it got its first anime adaptation in 2001
Tumblr media
this anime had 64 episodes and covered a complete story. hey goose but if it aired in 2001 and the manga ate shit in 2004 how did they- they didn't. they made shit up. remember kanata dying on the cross? take that extend it to cover half the story and make it FUCKING AWESOME
shaman king 2001 has this impeccable Vibe to it that I really love (the only other thing I can think of with similar impeccable Vibes is sk8). a lot of fans prefer this anime to the manga and I can't blame them it sure has its perks. it also has its downsides. which is mostly terrible dated character designs and diverging from the manga if you're not into that.
I love this show though this is what I rewatch when I want any old shaman king in my spare time
but what's this? a whisper on the wind? that's right baby
SHAMAN KING KANZENBAN MANGA
Tumblr media
that's right- between 2008 and 2009 the entire manga was reprinted to get its "true ending", including redraws of some panels
later in 2012 BAM SHAMAN KING FLOWERS
Tumblr media
yes there's a full mainline sequel. flowers itself ended in 2014 when the magazine it was in Ate Shit and Died. the story was continued in another manga, The Super Star, before last year the magazine publishing TSS, say it with me now,
Ate Shit and Died (yeah Takei has real bad luck with that)
and then, just a few years ago...
BAM SHAMAN KING 2021 REBOOT ANIME
Tumblr media
finally, an anime adaptation of the kanzenban manga, true ending including... this is where I show up. finally! I needed something to watch on a long car ride in august 2021 and happened to download the first eight episodes on netflix, a decision which would have no repercussions on my life philosophies or me as a person (lies)
there are pretty mixed feelings about this anime overall (the pacing goes fucking BRRRRRRR that's for sure) but I can credit that thing with getting me into shaman king and restructuring my brain so it has a special place in my heart
(it's also what I first get people to watch when they agree to shaman king with me. you should really read kanzenban instead because it's better)
lastly there's the flowers anime airing right now
Tumblr media
(yay excitingggggg)
and like. soooooo many more sequel prequel and spinoff manga. and also all of takei's works (I'm planning to read ultimo soon because someone said that's where the spirit based on the vermilion bird came from and that has a common ancestor with allen sugasano so I'm going) oh shit and funkuro/funbari chronicles the mobile game that is either closed or on its way out. and so much more
I'm not going to explain every one of them because I realized you probably wanted. a plot summary. so
copy pasted from my mankin slideshow:
"laid-back Asakura Yoh is a shaman, someone with a connection to the afterlife. He participates in the Shaman Fight, a tournament to determine the next god. Hao, a mysterious and overwhelmingly strong shaman, wants to use the powers gained from becoming a god to wipe out humanity. Shenanigans ensue across multiple continents and the boundaries of life and death."
like I said before it's a shonen adventure manga so it follows a lot of tropes, but I think it does them pretty well and in its own way. if you read through the entire mainline manga (kanzenban, flowers, and tss) it's clear takei has a lot to say through his work and he's pretty explicit about his view of the world (shoutout to evil triangle who invented capitalism)
takei's writing and research can be kinda iffy at times and I would never say his work is for everyone but I love it to bits and it has really helped me out over the years
my personal favourite pieces of shaman king media (besides kanzenban) are:
Red Crimson (spinoff of the main sequels following an adult legacy cast, brilliant story about love and grief except for the Horrors)
& a Garden (prequel spinoff about the hanagumi witches, side characters from the first manga)
2001 anime (explained this one already)
if this has interested you go read the kanzenban manga and then come back for sequel recommendations
need more information? I got you
my beginner's shaman king slideshow (if you're reading this within an hour of posting you might see me updating it dw about that)
the patch cafe fansite which has up to date news about the entire series
there's also the funbari hill discord's tumblr account, which reblogs a lot of great shaman king stuff. everyone there is lovely and it's a great community (it's actually run by a mutual of mine hi frost 👋)
I ALMOST FORGOT THE SEQUELS FANSITE WHOOPS (run by an incredible artist and has some fun information about the sequels)
please tell me if you want clarification or more specifics I'm bad at explaining this concisely

Romance Will Be In Fire Emblem Engage
I am seeing people say we are not going to be getting romance in Fire Emblem Engage and I wanted to make it clear that those people are like 99% likely to be wrong. I want to talk about the reasons people think their won't be romance, why I am sure there will be, and maybe a little bit extra so hop on.
Tumblr media
First let's talk about why people think romance won't be in the game. It's that there is no S ranks in this game. They believe this includes Alear because a leaked screen shot before the game was revealed from a Chinese playtester showed Vander did not have an S rank with F! Alear. This however, also does not prove that S ranks do not exist within the game. A. It was a playtest build but more importantly B. You couldn't marry the old men in Three Houses. While they had S ranks, it was heavily criticized at the launch of Three Houses that they gay baited with them. So with Cander being the very likely father of Framme and Clanne and therefore likely married or a widower he probably wouldn't be a marriage candidate and they probably learned their lesson with putting an S on these kinds of characters.
Then it is important to remember that an A rank in Three Houses is how most the romance in the game worked. A ranks were for everyone but Byleth even if S ranks are removed totally, it does not actually stop romantic paired endings, it only makes it harder to see at a glance who will end up with who if you do multiple A ranks.
Tumblr media
Why, do I feel so confident that there will be romance in the game, well it's because basically every Fire Emblem game ever made features romance to a decent level. Awakening wasn't the first Fire Emblem game to feature romance, it was the first one to give your player insert the ability to marry a character in the story.
FE1/3/11/12 has Marth and Caeda get married which is followed up in in New Mystery Of The Fire Emblem. They are not even the only non support romance in the game with Est is dating Abel in new Mystery Of The Fire Emblem.
FE2/15 has Alm and Celecia get married at the end no matter what the player does and Mathilda and Clive are married in game. Then there is also paired endings as a well as Leon's unrequited love for Valbar.
FE4 is what gave us the child mechanics that would later be mixed up in Awakening and Fates.
FE5 and 6 I am honestly not as familiar with but they are also two of the least popular games in the series. However, FE6 does in fact include romantic paired endings that you get at the A rank.
FE7 has many paired endings on A rank for characters some of which result in the birth of some characters in FE6. It also has canon married characters recruitable
FE8 also has romantic paired endings on A rank.
FE9 and 10 have romantic paired endings including a pretty much locked in romantic ending. It also has a canon married character be recruitable.
This all is to say, there is maybe 1 games in which there is not romance in the mainline series of games. Paired endings will make a return because their basically in every single game. since they created paired endings [FE6], this only excludes remakes.
Tumblr media
Now the real question is how much romance will be Engage, will Alear die at the end meaning they don't get an ending, will Alear be able to romance only limited characters or does Alear get to hertosexually pick any character and a hand picked collection of gays, will every character be player sexual and you can romance anyone except for limited characters? We really don't know that but I doubt romance for Alear is gone. Maybe Alear needs to spend an item, maybe Alear has more limited romance choices but they know for a fact shipping is one of the biggest pulls to the franchise and I just genuinely don't believe that feature will be left on the table.
I am honestly hoping for characters to have thought out sexualities and have particular characters they can romance including many queer ones. Or that they go full player sexual including just being able to ship whatever 2 characters that aren't incest or something together and get a paired ending, a full molding the world to your vision. I mean Alear is god in this game if there was gonna be a game where your shipping mattered, it makes most sense here.

I feel you so much on the Mondo thing... Where every character falls into some kinda category based on how liked they are (there are the ones everyone likes, ones everyone hates, the underrated characters, etc.), Mondo's sort of floating off in this innocuous void?? Obviously he has a cult following and he has his haters, but most of the fandom just kinda doesn't even care?? It's complete indifference, and the only reason he isn't considered an underrated character is because he's in one of the much more popular ships. Other than some characters from dr3, I kinda consider him to be the MOST underrated character. Because with characters like Hiro and Akane, at least people KNOW they're underrated. People actively look at them and think "there's more to them that we don't get to see", but with Mondo, most of his major lore details are handed to you right in chapter 2. He is made REMARKABLY easy to understand, and I don't consider that to be a writing flaw in the slightest. But I think as a result of this people just look at him, go "alright, I've seen all there is to see", and then move on without much further consideration. Then with Mondo enjoyers themselves, the line between those who like him as an individual versus those who like him as an add-on to Kiyotaka or even Chihiro is clear as day, to the point where you see people get some really surface level characterization wrong (Like I hate to be that guy but people don't make Mondo nearly the level of sopping wet beast roaming around in the middle of the target parking lot all alone as they should). Then the people who actually care about the guy write 90 page essays on him. Like there's no in-between.
YES YES I 100% AGREE!!!
I remember seeing this Instagram post back in 2021 when Danganronpa kinda had that popularity resurgence (aka when I joined the fandom). It was one of those “starter pack”memes and went something like “‘Characters the fandom doesn’t care about unless it’s shipping’ starter pack” and Mondo was part of it. And I no joke thought, “Oh wow, they included Mondo,” like I was completely expecting for him to be overlooked.
It’s rare nowadays to find a character or trial or what-have-you that’s actually underrated when it comes to the mainline DR games. Most that were probably underrated at some point just kept being talked about how underrated they were until they weren’t really considered underrated anymore.
But Mondo is underrated and no one really talks about it because no one cares. At least, outside of his small group of fans.
There’s so much analysis and deep dives you can do with him from masculinity, to negative stigmas, to repressed and untreated mental disorders. Like, he’s one of the few characters who was written to have a mental disorder (ptsd, albeit with some negative stereotypes). He’s a scared kid hiding behind the mask of a fearless leader, and the game does a great job at showing that. But no one talks about it.
And that lack of talk amongst the fandom is what eventually led to the fanon Mondo we have today. No one really wanted to analyze what he brought to the table and so people just started viewing him as the surface level macho bad boy stereotype that he was WRITTEN TO SUBVERT.
I do think that there’s some sort of devolution from that version of him that’s been happening the past couple of years with those fans who would “write 90 page essays of him” coming into the scene, and that’s great. Love that for him. I’m glad that, while he’s not nearly talked about enough, there’s been a slight increase of interest of him as an individual character and not as a ship or foil.
Anyways yeah, “Make Mondo Relevant in the Fandom 2023.” Let’s make it happen.

im curious. who are your fav characters from each mainline persona game that you have played 🤔🤔 (take this as an invitation to ramble about them)
YIPEEEEEEEE here we go will be long so im hiding it under a readmore again. also since you said mainline im not including toshiro or eri but you Know...... im abnorma, abt them
i have NOT played p1 and i've just barely started p2is (though ive watched snippets of someone elses's playthrough) but i will say. based on my limited knowledge i rly like hidehiko, ayase, naoya, tatsuya, jun, eikichi, yukino, maya, and lisa
p3 and p4 are difficult bc theyre the ones im the most autistic abt and the main entire casts as a whole are comforts for me. but anyways. going to talk about p3 first Yes I Will Include SLs too. im abnormal. top 3 main insaners for p3 though are akihiko, yukari, and junpei. for me
makoto/minato sooo so gender envy. im obsessed with his design a lot. his character i do also like hes a little goofy and so mecore but mainly his design is something i love a lot
same with kotone. also love how she has a sort of distinct personality that you can tell with slight dialogue changes that her counterpart doesnt say. shes rly real. love reload but i miss her...
as stated yukari's one of my favs. she didnt Use to be (i did like her but Not as much) but she's slowly become one and man. i love that silly girl. her haters will not survive the winter actually. it does piss me off though because like. yeah shes not perfect no character rly is but she's a traumatized mentally ill teenage girl with a dead dad and a neglectful mom cut her some slack maybe? god forbid women do anything. idk. but im obsessed with her. her character is actually so interesting to me and not a lot of people talk about it? like her whole fear of death causing issues with summoning her persona like at the beginnning, her dad being involved with the kirijo groups shit, how she puts on a cheerful front but is actually deeply really lonely :(, her kinda playful insult friendship with junpei (deep down they do care abt eachother. i wish that was explored more. i found a rly good fic abt it once.) and etc etc. idrk what to say but shes sooo. i also love how she initially HATES mitsuru and is super jealous of her and then. Well. gay tension is real. anyways shes a transfem lesbian to me btw. yukamitsu ftw
junpei's also become one of my favs. somehow. in a similar vein to yukari in that he wasn't initially my main fav character but i think his character's also pretty interesting and has. a lot of unexplored potential. he's very silly and i love him for that a lot but something i don't see many people talk about is like. his Issues. like yeah hes silly but he's also got some fucked up self-worth issues!!! remember the scene on 5/9 where he kinda gets really upset and goes off on his own and stuff. for example. like i think him being imperfect and having these moments where he's NOT cheerful and goofy all the time and actually deeply really jealous of you because he feels that fighting's all he's good for and he's not worth much else is what makes him interesting. do you get it. like him being tbe silly funny guy isn't all he is as a person yk!!!!! also as far as characterization I point a lot to the scene where yukari's more than willing to go confront the people in the alley while junpei's worried, or scene near the end of the game where yukari teases junpei and he snaps at her, confessing that while he doesn't show it he really is terrified. they all are, at that point. yk what I mean? also people don't acknowledge his trauma with his father enough (maybe because it's only really discussed at all in femc's route... his SL is so good but not enough ppl see it... BUR YEAH did not think I'd go off on a tangent about junpei fucking iori tonight but he's real. hashtag brokeback tartarus. also he's an adhder to me. (oh yeah also want to point out this line in his SL where he says "maybe I have anxiety or something". yeah. that's a line!)
akihiko fucking sanada. ohhhh man. this guy. where do i even START. he's so so crazy like what if your local high school upperclassman boxing champion guy was also really gay for his dying childhood friend and autistic as hell and also traumatized. and he's doing boxing in the first place to overcompensate because the death of his sister made him fear losing anyone else again snd he needs to feel like he has power. he needs control. yk? like this guy made me insane for like several months straight in 2023 and he still makes me ill. to this day. as you can probably tell by my distaste for people seeing yukari and junpei at face value you can probably gather that I hate the protein jokes and i Do. he said it like. Once in p3. it never rly was funny????? and what they did in spinoffs esp p4a to just make him look like a gym rat and nothing more makes me upset bc of the REASON he's obsessed with fighting. he's not just a dumb jock (he also isn't dumb lol he canonically scores very high on his exams) he's overworking himself because feelings of self doubt from trauma have caused him to feel the need to overcompensate so he never loses anyone again. you know? it would've been interesting to see him relapse in p4a if theyd actually done it well. like he doesnt rly give himself time or room to grieve in game (theres rhat onw scene on 10/5 and then he barely talks about it again. man i wish it was developed more...) so realizing that grieving isnt a linear process that he can just repress for a long time and even years after it can still hurt would go INSANE. but no they just turned him into i love protein joke number 20. okay!!! (im very angry) thinking about when my non persona friend after hearing me explain some of the plot described p3 as like a greek tragedy because like. damn. he and shinji were doomed from the start with personas like polydeuces and castor huh. anyways. yeah. continuing writing now that i've watched october 4th in reload AND akihiko's breakdown as a reuslt and i wanna scream and cry and throw up that will be for another post but ooh man it mad eme cry like 3 times. and I KNOEW WHAT HAPPENS. THEYRE SOOOOOOOOOO if you know me im an insane akishinji truther. im just. i wanna talk abt other charactrs so ill stop here but always ask me about akihiko + akishinji + ships i like in general. i am really normal. oh btw transmasc akihiko is forever real to me. also he's autistic and a ptsder. to me (tbf what persona character Doesnt have some form of truama but like. this guy in particular). up there with my highest blorbos
i dooont wanna go on for too long abt every other character in p3 so ill keep this next part short and sweet but if u wanna hear me talk more abt any of them. feel free to. starting with fuuka i love he rmy transfem autistic girlie who has every disease. i also love mitsuru a lot who i Wish had people acknowledge her deeper aspects more. like. she was experimented on and also very sheltered and also a little bit of a girlfail. shes not fully the girlboss you all say she is shes also just a teenage girl!!!!!!!!!! koromaru can do no wrong hes forever the best. i love that dog. ken makes me so so sad he is just a kid!!! what the hell!!!!!! :(. and oh man. shinji. guy who is so wracked with guilt. guy that is dying no matter what happens. guy that dies in his lover's arms
as far as non-sees characters. i rly like strega. esp jin and chidori. dont think abt them enough. also as far as SLs i like keisuke, hidetoshi, bunkichi and mitsuko, kazushi, yuko, and etc etc...i need to see rio and saoris links too they look real. oh also i LOVE ryoji
p4 time !!!!!!
again gonna cut this short so i can actually Fit it all in one post. but wow. i do like all of the IT so so much but im just focusing on my favs. anyways i love yu so much his autistic swagger esp in the animation is amazing. like he is not a "chad" he's just an autistic teenager. ok. also the animation broke me when nanako gets kidnapped he sounds fucking distraught there. love when people delve into yu's issues also bc hes a bit fucked up but Man. ouch. just like me fr tho
i love yosuke in a similar way to why I like junpei because he's kind of a loser /pos snd has some insane issues that his shadow delves into that are Kind of Insane for the FIRST shadow of the game. like ok damn. i really do love his social link in general tho his was the first one I maxed out in my (unfinished because i didn't want to finish it) p4g playthrough so!!!!! many things wrong with him and also the lgbt community has forgiven yosuke hanamura. also similarly to junpei he's adhd as hell. souyo ftw
naotos probably my fav p4 character I think which is Pretty Painful Sometimes. sometimes I need to kill both other persona fans and atlus if ykwim. but anyways i hc him as transmasc for one thing but also if atlus weren't cowards and actually made his story abt rhat it would've hit so hard. his shadow in general is often overlooked apart from that bc what about the part where he talks about being mistreated by others and feeling utterly alone and not allowing himself to act like a kid!!!! it fucks me up!!! he's also super autism btw like god damn. but YEAH point is I love naoto so much and i hate how both some fans and atlus tjemself treat him because his whole arc and shadow had the potential to be super compelling
apart from who i listed above i do like the rest of the IT so much they're such silly friends (i love you chie i love you yukiko i love you kanji i love you rise i love you teddie.). can't think of any SLs off the top of my head that were crazy but I do like daisuke and kou. OH ALSOO the dojimas..... 😢💧😢😢💧 love them
p5 time :3 I'm into it less so than p3 or p4 but Still
yusuke's my favorite p5 character probably. i domt know what it is apart from the common trend of my favs being autistic as hell (see: akihiko and naoto) but he's like. such a fucked up guy. he's traumatized. he loves art. something is deeply wrong with him. obsessed with this gug
i also do like ren/akira, ryuji, futaba, and also mishima (unfortunately. but in my defense there is something deeply wrong with him slash positive). i don't know a lot abt all of p5's confidants but i like iwai I think.... this reminded me I need to make more progress in p5 what the hell. i miss you futaba (i haven't even got to her palace yet im still on kaneshiros LOL)
but YEAH! thank you for asking!!! from the ones I've played my top favs are akihiko + naoto + yusuke respectively so👍👍👍 loved answering this :3 if u have any thoughts on a particular character feel free to ask and ill elaborate :3

Spoilers under the cut for a Sonic Frontiers showcase from a few days ago!
Tumblr media
Sorry I had to format it this way instead of answering you normally, anon. For some reason, tumblr won’t let you put a Read More before the contents of an ask, and I don’t want to risk spoiling anything. I hope you still see this anyway!
I could only find this gameplay on YouTube. I set it to play at the scene where Sonic frees Amy. It’s low quality, but it gets the job done.
Honestly? I’m actually not pessimistic about this. Maybe it’s my typical naivete, but the dialogue doesn’t necessarily confirm that she won’t be able to do anything further; in fact, I think it might be the opposite. After she shows her typical, lovable concern for both Sonic AND Tails, she says--and I quote-- “WE need to get going” to help Tails, implying she’ll play a part, too. I don’t like that Sega started by dragging her back into her old damsel in distress role, but Sonic promised to “scout around” and see her later. That’s not like in Sonic Forces where she and the others were portrayed as hopeless side characters until Sonic came back. It’s more like the Amy from IDW who steps up to contribute in her own way as a teammate to Sonic, not just a clingy follower. Why? Because Ian Flynn said so, and he’s in charge of this game, too!
Is this a sure sign of progress? Of course not, but I wouldn’t count her out just yet. It’s about time she got to do *something.* Every bit of marketing and the cutscenes for Sonic Origins HEAVILY teased that she’d be playable, too, but she didn’t have any meaningful role. It’s time to right that wrong.
Speaking of playable characters...
It’s a common complaint among fans, myself included, that since 06, Sega seems terrified to make anyone playable aside from Sonic in modern mainline games outside of multiplayer. In Generations, we have two playable characters...and they’re BOTH Sonic. I’m not the first person to think of something like this, but watching that trailer made me think of a way to ease back into letting others shine again in future games.
Sega was bragging about including more combat-focused gameplay, and the first thing I thought was, “Wait...they’re focusing on combat without letting Knuckles tag in?! Amy would fit, too!”
And then I remembered playing the Subspace Emissary in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
For those who don’t know, the Subspace Emissary was the main plot of that game. Every brawler had a role to play--Mario, Link, Pikachu, etc. But they didn’t really force any one character on you IIRC. For every scene in the story, multiple characters would team up, and you could choose to play as any one of them. E.g. Samus rescues Pikachu at one point, and you get to choose which of the two you play as in that level.
Tumblr media
Would that not be perfect for Sega’s current dilemma? Tons of us miss playing as our favorites. Others can’t stand one or more of the side characters. This approach would appeal to both groups, as the player would always have options. It would avoid the restrictive formula of classic games where you pick one character at the start and have to stick with them all the way through. The characters would be facing the same challenges but with different approaches, so you wouldn’t have things like the treasure hunting or fishing stages a lot of people disliked in the Adventure games. OR! They could take it a step further by having those characters come back later for optional specialized missions like those.
Players can stick with Sonic if they want, but older fans who miss their favorites can have them back, and newer players who’ve never played as the others can be eased into the idea and try them out. One of the franchise’s biggest strengths is its large, varied cast of unique characters. It’s time to stop living in fear and let them do their thing, Sega.

id like to start this post with a link to a fundraiser masterpost and a reminder to do your daily clicks.
as i mentioned in my last post, i probably wont be posting about anything scu-related in the future, at the very least not anything praising it. if i reblog shadow referencing a keanu reeves role, my bad, ive only seen so many things with him in it. if i reblog scu art that i think is just mainline, my bad, i wasn't thinking. im gonna be honest i dont even think ill do little things, like stobotnik but in mainline context, though i will say, stobotnik mainline au may be like. the 1 exception??? because i do like the ship??? but thats the complete extent of what ill post, if that.
a part of me wants to say "but this is spoiling other people's fun!" and then the other part of me says "by not giving a platform to actors and a company that is complicit in genocide" and it shuts up the first half pretty easily. remember that considering everything, while yes it's likely to have very anti-military, anti-us themes, there is a chance both knuckles and sonic 3 will contain hidden pro-israel propaganda. if it wasnt obvious, i don't want to post about israeli propaganda.
for anyone who knows me personally, or at least messages me, im more likely to be more leniant seeing as. well. it's not public. but im still not sure if ill talk about it unless it comes up in conversation???
ik i have a handful of people here who are mostly scu fans, possibly even scu exclusive. ig im sorry??? i can understand why theres a lot of scu fans, so i suppose if you like scu but you also want to stop posting about it, may i recommend some OTHER things to try (this is a long list so buckle up:
hop (2011) has a similar plot to sonic 1 and has james marsden (who is also not a good person but i dont think even universal would care if youre pirating hop (2011))
a really good place to start is honestly the snapcube dubs!!! you might get a few spoilers from context clues but theyre a really fun way to get to know games a little bit! obviously, theres a big barrier of there only being 5 dubs of 4 games, but i feel like once youve watched the dubs you can sort of get into the rest of her videos from there (theres also. theres this one. this one series. that people like. btw.)
while yeah i recommend the games, theyre sort of hard to know where to start. all i can really say is, dont start from forces or frontiers, at least know the plot of sa2 and thats basically it. ig if you want to play EVERY game, you dont really need to play anything before sonic 3 & knuckles and even then you can still start from sonic adventure and learn the plot of s3&k
NiGHTS is fun but also youll learn nothing about sonic i just wanted to mention it
if youre more into the action, i recommend sonic prime (and also, a few fix-it-fics or rewritten endings)
i recommend sonic boom if you want the comedy* and the characters living (mostly) normal lives. also you can literally watch most of sonic boom for free on youtube idc if im biased i will die on the hill of it being the best sonic canon. yeah im even including rise of lyric. no i have not played rise of lyric. do not mention the wasted potential of the concepts or i will explode.
*no offense but sonic boom is way funnier. idc if im biased because the sonic films are honestly only a step up from mcu humour most of the time, if that
if you want lore, i recommend the comics rather than the games, seeing as its slightly daunting where to start with the games. for a slightly more sanitised and. ig "normal" experience, read either idw or post-reboot archie. but if you want things to get a little wild theres pre-reboot archie. the only archie comics ive read are sonic boom and NiGHTS, so im not speaking from experience. but. wow. theres a lot to unpack there
if for whatever reason you just want sonic thats completely different to the games, i recommend sonic the comic and any of the 90s cartoons!!! theyre honestly really fun and because theyre so early on in sonic history (?) theres so many inconsistencies
sonic the fighters is fun but also you literally will never have to play that ever and its hard to find anyway
im pretty sure ive mentioned every canon there??? and a few things i dont need to lol. but the point is, if you are a fan of scu, you arent immediately a bad person! BUT (and here's the bit you actually have to listen to): if you are posting and praising the scu, particularly the upcoming projects, you are giving a platform to a large chunk of zionists.

🔎Pokemon Z-A Announcement Trailer Analysis🔎
Today’s Pokemon Present introduced us to the next mainline pokemon game: Pokemon Legends Z-A. Why not closely examine the trailer to try and make some guesses about this new game? I do think looking closely at the trailer is important, considering how the announcement trailer for Scarlet and Violet included Beta-Katy apron, time themes, Uvas y Naranjas, the emblems for Uva and Naranja Academy, and the Team Star logo framed.
Lumiose City
Tumblr media
[ID: There are three sections. First is the overview of the new Lumiose City with a map of XY Lumiose city put over it (poorly). Second is the overview of Lumiose city with some sections highlighted, one resembles a park layout, others resemble new buildings. The final image are screenshots from the trailer showing a new building, a train station behind aegislash, and the final is a blurry image of some courtyard under the ground]
According to the game’s description, Pokemon Legends Z-A (PLZA? PZA) will be set entirely in Lumiose City, Kalos. I was insane enough to try superimposing a map of Lumiose city from XY over the new overview we got in the trailer, and… the city really is getting a massive glow up. In the image I highlighted some new areas I saw like parks and some interesting new buildings. In the animated part of the trailer, I also spotted a new modern looking building, the Kalos train station, and a new court near Prism tower.
Strange Logo
Tumblr media
[ID: In the center is the new logo, it shows a four-pointed star with a circle around it that has a cut on one side making it look like a “C”, and some strange letters on the bottom. To the left is a screenshot of one of the documents from the trailer, the new logo in the corner of it. To the left is the Galaxy Expedition Team Logo]
In the corner of the classified documents, and shown in a brief flash of light while the simulation is starting. This is clearly the group leading the Lumiose City Redevelopment plans, and I initially thought they would be the evil team. The logo doesn’t seem to be based on a previous evil team logo and these documents are confidential… but then I remembered the Galaxy Expedition Team from the Pokemon Legends Arceus. They also weren’t that “evil”, and this new group’s only actions right now is redesigning Lumiose, but before the trailer went into the pencil sketch, there was a note reading “A vision of beautiful coexistence between people and pokemon”. “Beauty” was the goal of the XY villain, Lysandre, wanting to make a more beautiful world, so this new group may have some more malicious intent.
The logo itself is very modern, and seems to depict some sort of star with something going around it, with some strange letters underneath it. My best guess at what the letters say is “Quasar”, the logo also slightly resembling a “Q”, previous evil team logos incorporating the first letter in the team’s name. It’s more likely a “C”, but it’s definitely some space related name, and that’s interesting when you consider “The XY Files”.
Supposedly, “The XY Files” is the scrapped plotline intended for Pokemon XY, but got cut due to time constraints. It supposedly included characters like Champion Diantha, Gym Leader Valerie, Professor Sycamore, AZ, and Team Flare all being aliens who seek to destroy the world. A star logo in a game about redeveloping Lumiose city? Feels like we could be getting aliens in this new game.
Pokemon Z-A?
Tumblr media
[ID: The Pokémon Legends Z-A title, the word Pokémon has a pink color in it, next to it is Z-A, Z has hexagons in it, the legs of the A has leaf patterns, both looking very futuristic. To the left is the Legends Arceus logo, stylized to look like it was made with ink. To the right is AZ from the games, but flipped]
We already know that Z stands for Zygarde, but “A” is completely new, there is no “A” legendary or mythical in XY, meaning we’ll be getting a new legendary. From the look of the title, this will be part grass type and somehow resemble the letter A (Xernes looks like X, Yveltal looks like Y, & Zygarde looks like Z), as for what it will be, I have no idea. Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde all connect to the myth of the world tree from Norse Mythology, Xerneas based on stags living in the trunk, Yveltal the eagle at the top, and Zygarde the dragon at its roots. But there is no fourth creature residing on the tree, perhaps this “A” pokemon can be the tree itself.
As for the title itself, it’s very weird with Kalos in mind. “Z” and “A” together instantly makes me think of AZ from XY, to those who forgot: “AZ is a mysterious man who appears in Pokémon X and Y. He is the former king of the Kalos region and the creator of the ultimate weapon. In modern Kalos, he has the appearance of a disheveled homeless man.” - Bulbapedia. His last appearance is at the end of XY when he is reunited with his Floette and just disappears from the plot, but he supposedly appeared in Hoenn at some point, and with Mega Evolution making its return, it feels like the game should be Pokemon Legends A-Z. Speaking of names, the dash is interesting since it implies “Z to A”, the ending of the alphabet to the beginning, but that could be nothing… or it could hint at what time period this game takes place.
Past? Future? Both?
I’ve seen some discourse on what time period this new game takes place, and I firmly believe this game takes place in the future. These trailers are made with every detail in mind, if this game was meant to be set in the past, the wouldn’t have had most of the trailer be in the form of a very futuristic simulation. Some other bits of evidence include:
The Lumiose City map adding many details to the original city, and the fact this is a “Redevelopment” project.
The team leading the project has a very modern logo in both the simulation and the strange documents that are pointed to for Past evidence.
The use of a simulation in the first place. If this game takes place in the past, why use futuristic imagery?
The title “Z-A” looks very futuristic, just like how “Arceus” in “Pokemon Legends Arceus” matched the year it was set in.
I do find it interesting how we don’t start on the sketch and then transition to the simulation, if this was in the past, at best it would be from 1990s-1980s when we began seeing technology developing more. A friend of mine, @epicspheal suggested the game could somehow be both past and future, which is possible because of the pencil sketches, and the name “Z-A”, End to Beginning again. Personally, I think the transition represents going from the past to the future, but we’ll need a second trailer to finally say what time period it is set in.
Who Will We See?
Clemont has to be in the game in some form, he is the Lumiose City gym leader and his catch phrase in the anime is literally “The future is now thanks to science”. Professor Sycamore is also very likely to make an appearance since his lab is found in Lumiose City, and he’s the freaking Kalos Professor. Emma, a girl from the XY-post game, also makes her home in Lumiose City, and even has a futuristic suit, Essentia, that she uses and fits with the more futuristic design of the game. But that same suit was constructed by the villains of XY, Team Flare.
The fate of a lot of the team and its leader, Lysandre, is left very ambiguous. He fires the ultimate weapon and completely disappears, Pokemon Evolutions (a short web series) even implies that he died at the end of the game. While they are gone, Xerosic is still around for the post-game, but then gets arrested, there is also the Lysandre Cafe, and Lysandre Labs located under it. Any redevelopment of Lumiose city would discover said lab, or already be well aware of it if this new team really are villains.
Epilogue
Pokemon X is my first game, and I’m excited about travelling to Kalos once again for a new adventure. I hope the next trailer answers a lot of the questions we have right now, and that the game comes out great! I will not be updating this when new trailers come out, trailers are less mysterious with details, announcement trailers are way more fun to analyze.

Today I'm Gonna Play: Mega Man X: Command Mission (Gamecube ver.)
My first introduction to the Mega Man series wasn't from the games but rather one of the anime series: NT Warrior. I remember thinking the character designs looked really cool, and I loved sci-fi/robotic characters at the time too. (Robotboy on Cartoon Network anyone?) I did get into a few games on the GBA and PSP but I sucked badly. So I thought, if I can't get into one of their mainline games, maybe I can try a spin-off? (Apart from Battle Network) And that's how I found this. Never thought they had a proper turn based RPG so I thought to check it out and emulate it.
Right off the bat, I want to commend the character designs. I always felt like that was the series' strong point, but everyone looks great here. Zero is my favourite character in the entire franchise but this is one of the few times where X looks amazing, and maybe even moreso than Zero himself. I just cannot stop staring at his model with awe, it's just SO cool with the red and yellow accents, the use of sharp yet rounded shapes, and this red energy scarf emitting from his back. Another character's design I love is Marino. I usually don't pay much attention to the female characters (although Ciel, and some renditions of Roll are very pretty and cute!), but I'm absolutely in love with Marino's design where a female character looks cool for once. I think the only other character I can think of is Aile from Mega Man ZX, which I haven't played yet. If Marino appears in other games I would totally love to play them!
Overall gameplay loop is simple. Get into random encounters and go through doors or elevators to proceed, fight a boss and repeat. But I have to say that this game now has my favourite RPG combat system, beating Final Fantasy X. That's because it has similar features, such as being able to switch your party members at any time, as well as showing your turns. There are also some elements of the weapons and sub weapons having different attributes although they have stats too, so you can switch around a bit. Although the game doesn't have a nodal system like the sphere grid in FFX, it has something called a Force Metal which are kind of like stat boosters, except you can only hold a couple of them, and some party members can have even more limited slots, for some reason. The reason that this system is my favourite is that it has what I like about FFX, but also doesn't use a menu like traditional JRPGs to input your commands, and instead has 4 simple button presses: Attack, 2 smaller attacks using the sub-weapon, an ultimate attack powered by a gauge, and a menu shortcut to access items or to defend and flee. This makes the usual turn-based combat go a lot faster than having to wait for the animations to play out and repeat.
The music is also pretty catchy for the most part. Lots of electronic beats that still hold up to today. The ending song is also really neat yet very eerie too, which was very unexpected.
The story is alright. I'm not knowledgeable about Mega Man lore in general, but from my understanding there's a group of bad guys that were after mining sources of Force Metal and it's up to X and the others to track them down. Not a lot of groundbreaking narratives going on although it had some interesting twists, but it's okay enough to just follow along with it without focusing on it too much, even though it won't be something I would remember in the future.
I do have some drawbacks though. Since it's an old game and an RPG too, it suffers from random encounters or more specifically TOO many random encounters. Some segments had puzzle sections and I could take two steps and get an encounter! Understandably, this feature existed for technical reasons at the time. But if a game were to release today with random encounters included for any reason (such as the Pokémon franchise), it's crucial to keep a balance on the encounter rate because too much of it frustratingly breaks the flow of the game. I had to take multiple breaks from playing just from getting exhausted with the amount of enemies I was encountering. What's worse, is that the EXP rate is so low that it makes grinding an absolute pain to go through.
The level designs aren't too great either. Because the game mostly uses corridors to navigate, a lot of it is just going straight with some occasional turns. The second half tries to include some puzzles and a lot of backtracking, but the map design felt a bit awkward to navigate around. I mostly had an issue with 1 chapter, but the rest were okay to go through. I think it's hard to make corridor style levels interesting, save one game from what little I've played which was Persona 5 Royal (It is something I'll properly play in the future). A mix of puzzles, exploration, and not making areas too narrow would do well.
Overall, I think this game has a lot of potential that's being held down by its own weaknesses and can definitely be improved upon if it were to get a sequel, or at least a remaster to be ported to modern consoles.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies
About the Game:
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies is a role-playing video game co-developed by Level-5 and Square Enix for the Nintendo DS. Published by Square Enix in Japan in 2009, and by Nintendo overseas in 2010, it is the ninth mainline entry in the Dragon Quest series. The storyline follows the protagonist, a member of the angelic Celestrian race, after a disaster in their home scatters magical fruits across the mortal realm. While carrying over traditional gameplay from the rest of the series with turn-based battles, the game is the first Dragon Quest entry to feature a customizable player character, and the first to include a multiplayer mode, with the option of trading treasure maps and loaning player characters through Nintendo Wi-Fi. Online functions ended in 2014 when it ceased operations.
Why did I choose it?
I chose this game because is my favourite: I think it's fun, interesting, compelling (also I love turn-based battle games) and suitable for all ages, alone or with friends. The message that I think the game wants to give, outside the fantasy context, is that kindness can heal the world. I played it for the first time when I was young but I still enjoy the gaming experience every time I restart the game and honestly I was never able to finish ALL the side quests! If you want to accept my challenge you can always try but I'm not sure you will succeed 😂
My gaming experience and why I find it interesting:
I took a lot of notes while playing so I'll try to summarise them as best as I can. In my opinion the game is really enjoyable mainly because you have a lot of possibilities other than following the main story: you can decide to focus more on side quests on some days, other days you try to find treasures in secret spots with secret maps, other days you try to find recipes for completing the alchemy part of the game, basically you can't get bored with this game. Also the possibility of characterisation of the characters, not only for their aspects but for their skills and classes too (priest, thief, clown, ecc.), makes the player decide to keep playing to discover differences and unlocking new trophies. Finally even if the story is already written with no possibility to influence it, you still have the possibility to explore a gigantic map, well made for the landscape and with a great music choice. A plus is that if your best friend doesn't want to play with you, you can also create new characters to accompany you for all the game and you get to decide the class and even the name. Some other little things that make the gaming nice are, first, the game has a good balance of sense of humour based on some jokes or even on accents; two, when you come back on the game after time, you still can remember what happened thanks to a short story recap in the menu and finally finally the fact that the same object in the same places can always give you objects makes players take longer in the game experience making the exploration funnier.
What do you need to play?
To play you only need a Nintendo or an emulator.
How to bring it on another platform?
Square Enix and Nintendo tried some phone versions of it but they only found some ways to create a story with monsters, instead I think it could be interesting to create a full version for smartphones, the difference would be about using only one screen instead of two and trying to optimise controls to make the experience comfortable on that platform.

Errata, mechanics notes, and miscellany for Hard Mouth
Here are some errata and general notes for Hard Mouth. Likely I'm the only one who cares, but that's good enough for me; I figured I'd be the only who cared about a weird-ass story like HM in the first place. Major spoilers for the entire fic under the cut.
Notes and errata on Dream
Other errata
Other mechanics
Binding
A place for me to dump my own headcanons
I'm relatively new to D&D. When I started watching Critical Role, I'd played one (1) game, and I was hoping listening to CR would help me internalize and remember the rules that were still unwieldy to me. I mainlined Campaign 2 at 3x speed on the podcast and managed to catch up to the live broadcast about three months later, just in time for M9 to lay their trap for the Tombtakers in 2x133.
So: I am a dnd n00b still, I was an even bigger n00b then, and 5e has a lot of spells, subclasses, abilities, effects, monsters, and creatures. Because I am the kind of nerd who fixates on rules, I made an effort to make all the mechanics hold water, but I can't say I cared more about that than I did saying the thing I wanted to say—and also, it was pretty much inevitable I'd miss some stuff.
Which I did.
Notes and errata re: Dream
Hard Mouth exists because I was reading through the wizard spell list, got to Dream, read the description, and went, "Oh. Oh, that could be nasty in the wrong hands." Nobody's nastier than Trent Ikithon, so, boom, a fic about Ikithon waging a Dream siege.
This was well before the party leveled to 15. I'd been sketching stuff out for weeks by the time that happened, so when 2x138 aired and Caleb took Mind Blank, I could've either scrapped the fic or made it AU. I decided to make it AU. It was super-obliging of 2x138 to even offer a handy conceit for explaining the divergence on a Watsonian level with Caleb and Essek sifting through timelines to pull one into being.
Anyway, the first question to ask plot-wise was whether what Trent was attempting could even work. I spent a lot of time thinking about and Googling ways to circumvent or interrupt the Dream spell before I started writing. These were the potential complications I found:
Leomund's Tiny Hut RAW, LTH should block Dream. Yes, really. LTH is bomb for a third-level spell. However, Matt doesn't treat Caleb's dome as a RAW LTH, so I went with how Caleb's dome behaves in Exandria. The description for LTH states that "[s]pells and other magical effects can’t extend through the dome or be cast through it." But C2 has several instances of magical effects extending through Caleb's, in either direction. On Rumblecusp, Caleb still lost memories while sleeping in the dome; Caleb controlled Frumpkin through it, including to watch the conversation the rest of M9 had with the Tombtakers and communicate telepathically with Lucien in 2x122; the Somnovem dreams clearly gave zero fucks; Jester routinely Sent and received replies from inside. So Caleb's dome appears to block localized, directed magical effects and attacks, but not absolutely everything—which, really, makes sense for a third-level abjuration. On a similar note, I've seen some forum posts saying that Mordenkainen's Magnificent Mansion ought to block Dream, as well. That's inaccurate. Dream works so long as the target is on the same plane as the caster, and MMM is an extra-dimensional dwelling. But you know what probably would have worked? The Happy Fun Ball. Since HM is AU from 2x138 on, I could have stipulated M9 lost the HFB in the Astral Sea or whatever; but the fic was already shaping up to be more than long and complicated enough, and I didn't feel like including a scene or conversational cul-de-sac for no other reason than the mechanics handwave, so I just didn't have it come up. No one's asked about the HFB that I've seen (apologies if somebody did; I do miss comments on previous chapters sometimes), but I wouldn't blame a reader for being annoyed by the omission. I'm at peace with it, though.
Dispel Magic "Shouldn't Dispel Magic at fifth or higher end the Dream spell?" Yes, it would. There is a lot of dispute about how Dispel interacts with various things, but "[o]n a successful check, the spell ends" is pretty clear. Whereupon Trent would cast it again, until he succeeded in inflicting the damage and rest disruption that instantaneously results from the ten-word psychic attack in the event of a failed wisdom save. After God knows how many hours on Reddit and rpgstackexchange and dndbeyond fora and random blogs, the understanding I gleaned—not with any very high degree of confidence—is that Dispel ends ongoing spells and effects, but can't undo the results of an instantaneous event. It can't unring any bells. So what I went with was: if Caleb succeeds on the save, he's good for the remainder of that rest period. If Trent wins in that instant, Caleb takes the psychic damage and loses the benefit of rest for the same eight-hour span. Which actually is giving Caleb a bit of a gift. There's no text in Dream's description that remotely suggests the target is immune for any period if they succeed on their Wisdom save. But Dream is already pretty fucking OP; "one chance per customer" is simpler and seems fair, and it's probably how I'd rule it if I were DMing.
Widogast's Transmogrification The problem with Transmogrification was that for most of the story, they didn't have the components for it. WT requires gem dust and clay. In Aeor, they couldn't lay their hands on either; at Elamrin's, they could have found clay, but not gems. They pick up enough gems in Uthodurn and could have found clay in the Pearlbow; but in-story, at least, that still wasn't their first port of call—not because Caleb "Restore Youth because fuck you" Widogast would have found it too extreme, but because HM sets up from chapter 2 on that elf trance is learned over a period of years. I can't claim I had the foresight to set up that detail to get around WT; frankly, I set it up because I found it appealing at the time. It's there because I liked it. Most things in HM are there because I liked them. Hard Mouth is literally just me throwing out a bunch of iddy stuff and thinking up ways to connect it, and the story is the shape that resulted. Whether someone finds "elf trance is learned" to be fair play or not depends, I guess, on whether they're prepared to consider fanfics setting up their own internal rules fair play or not. Establishing the rules of their fictional worlds is an extremely basic thing all stories must do, so I was fine with doing it wherever it didn't conflict with existing lore. I do think many readers have different standards for fanfic vs o-fic on this score, which is fair. But my only standard for fanfic is, "I do what I want." Possibly I should have had M9 discuss Transmogrification, but as with the Happy Fun Ball, I straight-up didn't feel like writing a scene just to argue mechanics with myself. That's what this post is for.
So those were the mechanical considerations I had at the outset and the conclusions I reached about them. Not finding any magic bullet that would decisively stop Trent from doing what he was attempting in Aeor, I went ahead and started writing.
However, there is one thing that absolutely, decidedly, 100% would have exploded the plot, only I didn't find out about it until I was more than halfway through writing and posting:
Summon Celestial Caduceus and/or Jester casts Summon Celestial and specifies a couatl. The couatl's innate spellcasting ability allows it to cast Greater Restoration (or Dream or Scrying, interestingly enough) once per day. It casts this on Caleb to remove a level of exhaustion.
Boom. Crisis averted.
So, yeah. The other things wouldn't have worked, near as I can tell, but Summon Celestial should. I've seen somebody argue that since Summon Celestial is itself a fifth-level spell, the celestial you summon shouldn't be able to cast fifth-level spells, because that would be free spell slots, ergo the celestial should just be able to fight as an ally and, IDK, hang out; but frankly, I see nothing to support that, and it certainly isn't something I'd do to my players if I were DMing.
Honestly, the only reason I realized the Summon Celestial thing at all was that my home game started playing Tomb of Annihilation. We ran into a couatl NPC, and then I happened to be re-listening to 2x127, where Caduceus summons a couatl while they're at a beach, and went, "Wait a minute." I'm mildly annoyed with myself, but it's not like I had the stat block for couatls memorized when I began, and I wasn't about to start over (I think I was working on chapter 14 or 15 by then).
If I had realized the Summon Celestial option earlier, I still would've written HM, but it would've been a radically different story. Short-circuiting the physical assault early on would have shifted the focus entirely to Trent's psychological warfare. Hard Mouth deals with some of that head-on after Aeor, anyway, with Trent trying to mine Caleb's memory for intel. But the bigger issue was always, "How long does it take to harass someone to death this way?" And removing the physical peril arc would have centered that a lot more.
I think that would have been a much harder story to write, technically and otherwise. The physical exhaustion, and the more tidily defined, understandable crisis it precipitates, actually offloads a lot of the stress of… everything else fucked up in that scenario. It gives Caleb something to focus on so that he can not ask himself questions like, "How much longer can I live with Trent Ikithon having a free pass to my head, with my will and boundaries and separate identity meaning nothing, with custom-made nightmares, with never getting any fucking rest?" Because removing exhaustion isn't the same as resting. That's the weird thing about Greater Restoration. With couatls on tap, Caleb could have just stayed awake indefinitely—physically. But how long could he do that psychologically?
Hard Mouth already skirts those questions: after all, it's not physical exhaustion that makes Caleb seriously consider suicide. But I'm kind of glad I didn't find out about couatls until I was too far in to change anything, because I think it would've been a much bleaker story if I had.
Other errata
In chapter 6, concentration is a mess all over the otyugh fight. First, Essek casts Haste on Caleb to counteract his exhaustion-halved speed. Then Caleb casts it on Beau. But then Caleb casts Wall of Force horizontally over the well M9 are in, using Allura's staff—and that's concentration, too. So Haste should have dropped on Beau there and then, not thirty seconds later in the tunnel. Furthermore, the Dancing Lights cantrip is also concentration, so when Essek cast that in the tunnel, Haste should then have dropped on Caleb. It's not a big deal, as it doesn't change the outcome any; Wall of Force lasts for ten minutes, so six seconds (one round) each for Beau and Caleb to get their breath back before they all crawl into the tunnel wouldn't matter. In fact, there's no reason I couldn't just edit the scene to fix it. But while I care about this inaccuracy enough to be annoyed by it, apparently I don't care enough to override my basic laziness.
Also in chapter 6, the party "finds out what an otyugh is." Just one problem: they fought an otyugh in the Victory Pit! The monster is never named in the episode, and although Matt's description is pretty clear, I never put it together until I happened to check that wiki page for something unrelated just a few weeks ago. Oh, well. My early lack of familiarity with dnd monsters strikes again. At least this error doesn't negate the entire plot.
In chapter 7, Caleb and Essek sit in their respective LTH domes chatting with their heads out. In 2x75, however, Matt specifies that the dome will drop if the caster pokes their head out, which I missed or forgot. On the other hand, in 2x30, the very first time Caleb casts the dome, Liam specifically describes him sticking his head out of it. The reason for 2x75's discussion was because Marisha was trying to figure out if Caleb (whom she was controlling in that ep) could cast while maintaining the dome, and Matt was ruling no, which is very clearly RAI. There's lots of other flavor explanations you can give for that other than "no part of the caster's body may pass through the dome or it drops"—if that were the case, Caleb would surely be hypervigilant about staying away from the wall of it all the time, and he isn't—so I'm not too fussed.
In chapter 13, Caleb doesn't want to ask Jester or Essek to cast Modify Memory on him, so, still with very mixed feelings, he asks Caduceus instead. This is a straight-up goof. Modify Memory isn't a cleric spell, and Jester only has it because of her Trickery domain. I even fucking knew that, but I still fucking forgot, and I've been salty at myself ever since. Whatever. Too late now. Maybe I'll write a timestamp where Jester convinces Artagan to teach Caduceus how to cast it for the lulz.
In chapter 18, I had the changeling Volstrucker direct two of her five Steel Wind Strike attacks against Jester to slay her outright. That was a misreading of the spell: SWS indeed grants up to five attacks, but each one must be against a separate target. However, she would have been able to land in melee range of Jester, as specified by the spell, and then take her second Glyph Chant melee attack the old-fashioned way, which would still have been an auto-crit after the overchanneled force damage. I guess I could go back and edit that, but it would be a more convoluted description for the same end result. Plus, I'm lazy.
In chapter 21, Caleb triggers a Glyph of Warding cast by Jester to contain Essek's Mind Blank. I'm not sure whether most DMs would in fact allow two casters to "collaborate" on a Glyph, but I think Matt "Sure, y'all can do tandem wizardry to break this homebrewed gem and bend reality in a way there's no actual spell for because it's fucking cool" Mercer probably would with an adequate ability check. That's not the error, though; the goof is that GoW specifies that "[w]hen you cast this spell, you inscribe a glyph that harms* other creatures." I straight-up forgot that bit and didn't have occasion to check the spell description until well afterward. Like Modify Memory, this error actually irritates me more than the Summon Celestial short-circuit, because I couldn't have known to ask the question that would have gotten me to Summon Celestial, but goddamnit, I definitely should have known these. Oh, well. *Erratum to the erratum: although the text provided at the above link definitely read "harms" when I wrote this post, as of March 2022, it says what I thought it said when I wrote the chapter: "creates a magical effect." So now I don't know what to think. I live in a world of lies, lies and perfidy.
Other mechanics notes
I made myself a little chart for translating 5e exhaustion levels into practical effects, if that's any use to anybody.

Notes for fan binding
Several people have offhandedly mentioned wanting bound copies of HM, and one person has approached me about it directly. Although I ask that the text is not submitted to any print-on-demand services (due to TOS excluding transformative works and/or granting the service rights to reproducing submissions), I have no objection at all to anybody printing off and/or binding the fic for their own personal use. Even if I did, people should still do it if they want, because noncommercial hobbyist fan binding is neither illegal nor wrong, and AO3 offers download options for a reason.
The only thing to know is that I will probably continue to make ninja-edits to the fic for a couple of weeks forever. After outlining (a lot), writing for me is a process of trying to transcribe scenes and moods out of my head. Sometimes the transcription sucks. Hard Mouth is unbetaed and, other than cursory attempts to proofread when I coded in the HTML, unedited work. I haven't even really read all of it; if I had any plans to produce a second one, I'd call it a first draft. All of which is to say that any time I do open it up on AO3, I find a slew of typos and unnecessary clauses and flat-out cringey prose, and then I fiddle with them. You don't have to care about that, but if you do care about it, well, there it is.
Roadie's headcanon dumping ground
For reasons of flow and focus I ended up not writing it, but at one point I imagined Essek mentioning to Astrid, in their epilogue conversation, that he'd heard that Ikithon tried to teleport right before the Scourgers turned on him, but was counterspelled at ninth. In all the inquests since, no one has been able to determine where that counterspell came from. How interesting, Astrid would have politely replied.
Artagan calls in Beau's agreement to be Polymorphed back into a cockroach at some point at a high-brow, high-stakes diplomatic function at which she is representing the Cobalt Soul.
There were a couple other things that were supposed to go here, but I've already forgotten them. Whatever. I'll shove them in later.

Things from Archie Sonic that I would love to see return in the Mainline Games and/or IDW Sonic!!
Tumblr media
Recently, I decided to read some of the Archie Sonic Comic, from like issue 186ish up until the first MegaMan crossover and the reboot, mainly because there were some gaps in my knowledge of those stories. Mainly Issues 198 till 235, which I never got to read as a kid and, I have to say, there were a lot of really interesting concepts during Ian's run of comics before the reboot that I really loved. There was a lot of really interesting concepts I love after the reboot too. I wanna celebrate that. A lot of these concepts and story idea I feel really deserve another chance.
So I wanna make this list of stuff I wanna see return in either for stories in the Mainline Games or the IDW Sonic comics. Before we start, I do wanna add somethings. This post isn't meant to be shitting on IDW and being like "IDW would be better if they did this". I really love the IDW comics and universe. I also know that some of these concepts likely can't be done due SEGA Mandates and I'm not gonna include stuff like "Bring back the Freedom Fighters" because I feel asking to bring back characters isn't gonna be very productive, as much as I would like to see their return. Anyways, let's begin.
The Fate of the ARK
Tumblr media
One thing that really inspired this list was this scene right her. We'll talk more about Silver's Future later but for now, let's focus on the ARK. I'm gonna assume anyone reading this knows the story of the ARK from SA2 and Shadow. Sadly, the ARK hasn't really been revisited in the main canon since Shadow, despite how iconic of a set piece it is. In the Archie Comics, we get a look at Silver's future and one of things that may have been the cause of how bad things are is the ARK crashed. Sadly, Archie got rebooted before the writers could go more into it but, from SA2, we know that the ARK was set to crash into the planet if all 7 Chaos Emeralds are placed into it, wiping out all life on the planet. This could be an excellent premise of another Silver adventure, whether it be in the comics or games, where Sonic, Silver and some friends have to stop someone from making the ARK crash into the planet.
Expanding the Eggman Empire/Egg Bosses
Tumblr media
Something I've always found a bit lacking in the game canon is how the Eggman Empire itself has been presented. In the games, the Eggman Empire is usually just made up of Eggman, Metal Sonic, Orbot, Cubot, a bunch of robots and (recently) Infinite. It's not really an Empire if it's just one guy and a bunch of robots. The main goal is the conquer the world but we hardly see Eggman actually see what happens when Eggman conquers a place, like what happens to the people who used to live there, besides like Colours and Forces, where the Wisps and Mobians are usually just seen being imprisoned. The Egg Bosses are the perfect solution to this and adds so much to Sonic's World.
The Egg Bosses are Mobians who, either willingly or unwillingly, aligned themselves up with Eggman for whatever reason, becoming commanders of the Eggman Empire. This usually comes about when Eggman has taken over a part of the region and the people living in that region have no choice but to join the Eggman Empire, for their own safety. Not only does this make the Eggman Empire feel more than just one person but it also makes Eggman more a villain himself. It able to portray Eggman as someone to be feared and, I mean, this is a dictator and genocider who is pretty much declaring war against the world.
It also brings up some interesting thoughts about the world. Characters like Maw, Thunderbolt and even Nephthys to a degree joined up with Eggman because they felt it was the right thing to do for the sake of the world, or in Nephthys case, to stop things getting worst later on, meanwhile characters like Grand Battle Kukku are plotting to usurp Eggman, with Clove and Beauregard only working for Eggman to protect family or close ones.
As I said before, having these Egg Bosses also makes Eggman look more threaten, both because he's able to look like a "bigger bad" next to these villains he has command of and, because almost all the Egg Bosses hate Eggman's guts, they are cyberized, a terrifying process in which those who work for Eggman are focus to have parts of their body replaced with cybernetics, with either bombs which will blow if they decide to leave or a locking mechanism that will paralyze their entire body, ready to be locked up.
If either in the game or the IDW comic, I would like to see the Egg Boss concept return. It doesn't even need to be the same characters or use the name "Egg Boss." It would help expand the army of the Eggman Empire, as well as provide some fun bosses for the games I think.
Mobians and Humans living together
Tumblr media
This was always a weird hangup I felt the series had. In the case of games between Sonic Adventure & Unleashed, Sonic and friends were the only Mobians, humans made up the NPCs while Mobians were reserved for main characters. Then in Forces and IDW, Mobians made up the background characters, so then Eggman is the only human. I really prefer it when they have the two living together, it makes it seems more normal and, honestly, a better solution than the whole "Two Worlds" explanation.
Eggman Seemingly Defeated
Tumblr media
Can I just that I love Issues 198-200? In these 3 issues, Sonic and friends Eggman's main base, the Egg Dome. This including fighting on the outside of the base, involving fighting hoards of the Dark Egg Legion soldiers and Eggman in the Egg Phoenix. After dealing with the outside, Sonic and friends raid the Egg Dome itself, taking different directions, with the Dark Egg Legion seemingly retreating, until they reach the center of the base, where they are blocked off by a barricade, which only Sonic can pass through, giving a "Point of No Return" vibe, Dark Egg Legion soldiers lining up and saluting Sonic. Then Sonic reaches the center and finds Eggman in the Egg Tarantula, starting their final battle which Sonic wins. This defeat is enough for Eggman to lose his sanity, seemingly ending the war Sonic and the Freedom Fighters have been fighting their entire life.
Of course Eggman returns but, god, it's just such a memorable couple of issues. There's a real sense of finality to it. I would a sequence like this in the games, something that feels like truly ending the Eggman Empire and defeating them once and for all. Of course, it wouldn't be the end, Sonic games are always needing to be made which would lead to...
The New Rulers of the Eggman Empire
Tumblr media
In the comics after the defeat of Eggman, the Eggman Empire is taken over by some of it's Commanders, the Iron Queen and Iron King, who rules the Empire as their own until they are defeated and Eggman's return.
I love the idea that even if the Eggman, there will always be someone there to take his place. The games could do this by having Neo Metal or Infinite take his place. Hell, IDW did have Neo Metal take over but I think what made that less interesting was that Neo Metal wasn't doing it for himself, he was doing it for Eggman. I think this would work well if a concept like the Egg Boss was introduced in the games, maybe have one of the characters part of that group take over OR have a lot of the more ambitious Egg Bosses war against each other to take command, until eventually Eggman returns and puts them in line.
Silver's Future
Tumblr media
Silver is one of the most recurring characters, who always joins the gang when his future is in trouble. The problem is that we never see his future besides 06. We have no idea what Silver's future is currently until it's in danger and, even then, we never see it.
We see Silver's Future in both continuities of the Archie Comic, with two different takes. Pre-SGW has a destroyed city vibe, like 06 but less lava. Post-SGW brought a whole new take where people are ruled by a corrupt council where people are put into class groups, and security robots will arrest if you are not at your job at the right time. They even re-contextualize Silver's bracelets as cuffs that the robots can activate. With Silver being my favourite character as a kid, I remember being obsessed with this new world and story, wanting to know more.
I'm not saying they would need to copy this world exactly but it would be nice if they gave us a concrete and consistence look for Silver's Future.
The Heroic Metal Sonic
Tumblr media
Right before the SGW, we were introduce to Shard the Metal Sonic. His story is that he was the original Metal Sonic, the one that raced Sonic in Stardust Speedway. He appeared later in the comic, where Sonic made him realized there was more to life than just being Eggman's killing machine. He seemingly died, but was rebuilt to serve as a member the Secret Freedom Fighters.
This one would be tricky to be included. It worked in the Archie comic as they had been many Metal Sonics throughout the series, each one getting destroyed. Meanwhile, there's only officially been one Metal Sonic in the games made by Eggman (two if we count Classic and Modern). Admittedly, Gemerl fits Shard's personality and does need to be used more in the games but having it be Metal Sonic is just a cooler concept.
I think a solution to this is that we have Metal Sonic 1.0 made by Eggman and, in Rivals 2, we have Metal Sonic 3.0 by Eggman Nega from the future. But what about Metal Sonic 2.0? I think we could have a game where after Metal Sonic fails, Eggman builds a replacement, being 2.0, which would give reason to Metal Sonic wanting to revolt, which could lead to a redemption? While I am loving the IDW comics, I do really miss a lot of what both Archie continuities offered. I haven't mention the some other concepts and stories I liked that really focused on certain characters such as Naugus, Geoffrey St. John, Dimitri etc. Maybe I'll talk about that another day...

So there’s been a lot of buzz about the big leak about Sega’s upcoming plans for Sonic. The source is allegedly credible, but even credible leakers can get stuff wrong, so as always take all this with a HUGE grain of salt. (Some of this is also just stuff that isn’t that hard to guess based on the trajectory of the series recently.) I’ve been asked about it, so here are my thoughts
The big thing here that people seem to be talking about (aside from details on games that may or may not be in development) is that Sega wants to shift focus entirely towards Modern Sonic. (Although, remember, we’re literally getting some Classic Sonic stuff from IDW this year. We’re talking about the games here.) Now, I love me some Classic Sonic content. Mania is easily in my top 3 Sonic games, maybe even my absolute favorite, and it saddens me that the team has gone their separate ways instead of being kept on by Sega to make a sequel. Sonic Mania Adventures, Sonic Mega Drive? Phenomenal stuff. BUT... well, if they play their cards right, I think this is a smart move
Tyson Hesse also recently expressed his opinion that the hard divide between Classic and Modern Sonic is hurting the franchise, and I kind of agree. Everybody loves Mania (again, myself included--I bought it twice), but Mania didn’t do much to solve the core problem of Sonic’s reputation. If anything, it being the best reviewed Sonic game in years (and being followed up by the mediocre Forces) just kind of proved all the naysayers right. The best Sonic game in years was the one that ignored everything made after 1997, and the 3D game that followed it Just Didn’t Get It. (To be blatantly clear, I am not accusing the Mania devs of trying to tank peoples’ opinions of the rest of the franchise or anything absurd like that.)
Continuing to divide the attention of the games between two Sonics risks exacerbating this. People will be validated in viewing the Classic stuff as “the REAL Sonic” while the Modern stuff is just seen as that weird thing Sonic morphed into, when in reality the Modern stuff has been the heart of the franchise for the vast majority of its life at this point. There didn’t even used to be a harsh divide between Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic as separate entities! The divide between the two is way less clear cut than many will tell you, especially if you look back at stuff like Adventure, Advance, and Heroes that were still clearly drawing heavily on the Classic material. Back then, Sonic was just Sonic--he just happened to get a slightly different coat of paint in 1998. You could have SA2′s Sonic running around in Green Hill or Sonic Advance’s Sonic fighting the Eggmobile with the wrecking ball. It was no big deal
Classic Sonic is also, by its definition, a time capsule. It has to be how people remember Sega’s Sonic being in the early ‘90s. They can’t experiment too much with it or add too many new elements or you’ll upset people. Add another ally to the cast and you’ll rile up the “Sonic has too many friends” crowd. Change the gameplay and people will say it’s worse. Give Classic Sonic a voice and people will just say he should be mute. There’s room to do great stuff within the boundaries defined by the old school media, as we’ve seen, but you can only take that so far
(And hell, even if Sega’s going for nostalgia bait, take a quick look at the fandom and you’ll see a HUGE amount of nostalgia for the Adventure and Advance games. I, myself, am a 27-year-old who grew up playing those games religiously, and I know a lot of y’all reading this are in the same boat)
I mean, look at something like Mario. Nintendo hasn’t buried the classic Mario games at all--but at the same time, you also don’t see them splitting Red Overalls Mario off into a different entity to please old school purists. Mario is just Mario, and people like Mario, because Mario platformers are consistently good regardless of style. Like Tyson said in that forum thread: “The goal should be to just make Modern stuff good enough that people don't need to reminisce anymore.” Hopefully, this is what Sega’s trying to do. Not dividing the series in two so they can please old school fans while having no idea what to do with the mainline games, but rather just trying to make the new 3D entries something they can really be proud of as their flagship titles
So, TL;DR: I wish we were getting Sonic Mania 2, but if this is all true and Sonic Team wants to try harder to put out good content with the modern cast in both 2D and 3D then I am 1000% down for that. There is so very much to love in the world of Modern Sonic, as anyone reading the IDW comics knows, and I want the games to reflect that potential more consistently
(Also if this is accurate then I’m happy to hear that they’re moving away from the boost formula. I’ve had a lot of fun with the boost formula games, but Forces made it blatantly clear that they didn’t know what else to do with it)

No, I mean it. I had tacos for lunch. So enjoy the fresh air while you can.”
“But I did learn one thing from the experience. I’M STUPID!”
“Stick to chocolate and comic books. You’re too young for love anyway.”

“Did some new, totally rad Nintendo game come out?”
“You’re a little obsessive, aren’t you?”
“Sometimes I think I’d make a pretty darn good househusband. Who knew?”
“Oh, no... No matter how much time passes, I can’t forget him!”
“No matter where you live, one thing stands true... Life costs money.”
“Wait... You weren’t ACTUALLY trying to give me trash for my birthday, were you?”
“Okay, so don’t tell anyone because I’m not proud of this, but I was a little thirsty and kinda desperate.”
“I think I dropped my house key somewhere. That was my favorite key... It opened my house.”
“You filthy ogre! I hope you get stung by a thousand bees!”
“I just feel like life is all rainbows and flowers lately.”
“I’d tell you what I was dreaming about, but I’m not sure you can handle it. How old are you?”
“Um, I asked for something cool...and this is not it.”
“Even though you bug me sometimes, I don’t ever want to fight with you.”
“Rivers...are just fish roads.”
“_____?! What are you doing up?! It’s past your bedtime!”
“I’d offer you something to eat, but I don’t want to. Hey, it’s my house. Get your own food.”
“Explore all the things that make you happy now, and you’ll discover what you really want out of life later.”
“C’mon! Say something amazing! Treat me like a pretty princess!”
“If you ever need anything, anything at all, and I can do it without moving from this spot, just ask.”
“Shut up! You lookin’ for a fight? No? Then back off, buddy!”
“Hey, how about you letting me spend the night tonight?”
“Since I can’t cook, I just played Super Chef RPG IV for 24 hours...”
“You know what? I thought of you the other day, and it filled me with warm fuzzy feelings! For the record, I was also thinking about puppies, so you were in good company.”
“You can just forget about being friends with me!”
“It’s good to appreciate the times when you’ve got nowhere to be and nothing to do.”
“Yeah, exercise is totally hard and stuff. I think I’m gonna go take a nap and read a book or whatever.”
“Planning to do some post-midnight mischief? Yeah, me neither.”
“Do you need someone to share a snack with you? I’ll share a snack with you!”
“Ya ever just feel like cryin’? Me too!”
“We meet people, get to know them, and then they get up and leave us behind.”
“I don’t know if I told you this, but I’m allergic to bad vibes. When they’re nearby, I can’t help but... ACHOO! Oh, no! Bad vibes in the vicinity! This is not a drill!”
“Weeds are just flowers that no one thinks are pretty. That’s sort of depressing, isn’t it?”
“A joke for my birthday?! Nobody’s ever gotten me a joke before! The only thing is? This joke...IS NOT FUNNY! IT’S GARBAGE!”
“It’s kinda weird how being irresponsible with money can be rewarding, isn’t it?”
“You’re already mature for your age. My suggestion is to just be yourself. Don’t change to impress others.”
“I resolve to focus less on others and more on what really matters. ME!”
“Time to worry about an insignificant conversation that happened 15 years ago!”
“I used to be so focused. But now it’s like I just can’t...you know...do...stuff.”
“WHAT’S GOING ON?! THE RAGE! IT’S TAKING ME!”
“You are SO going to lose all of your friends if you keep acting like such a complete steakhead.”
“I’ve learned that you can’t get too connected to the people in your life.”
“I gotta admit, I really love that one show where all those people do the stuff and then something happens.”
“Just because two people are good friends doesn’t mean they’d make a good couple.”
“I was happy at first. But then I cried. And then it was kinda okay. But then I totally cried again.”
“The shortest route to getting something done is to just do it!”
“If you get scared, don’t hesitate to leap into my arms! I won’t be able to protect you in any way, but it might look cool.”
“NO ONE EVER UNDERSTANDS ME! I’M HUNGRY ALL THE TIME AND NO ONE CAAARES!”
“Whenever we talk, I feel like there’s a lot more going on inside you than you ever let anyone see.”
“Hi. I lost my voice. I was trying to be a heavy-metal singer. Instead of a pop star... I am SO not metal.”
“You’re just like a BABY! Waaah! Waah! WAAAAAAAH! Feed me! Feed me! I’m a wee baby!”
“Even the peppiest of people feel blue sometimes. It’s a sad fact of life.”
“Believe it or not, I feel like I’ve known you for a long time.”
“But I’m already pretty cute already... So, even cuter clothes might be...um...overkill.”
“After all, I’m beautiful, but I am also...deadly.”
“Even when I didn’t see you in real life, you made special guest appearances in my dreams!”
“You think my lips are cute? Why, do you want me to smooch you or something?”
“Wanna know something sad? There are some things about places you just don’t realize until you leave them.”
“If you don’t stop pushin’ me, I’ll be forced to break out the bicep canons!”
“I used to get taller on birthdays. Now I’m usually just wider.”
“I don’t like seeing you hurt, even if it’s just pretend... I can’t help that I care about you so much.”
“I’m terribly sorry, but nature is not always family friendly!”
“I’m soooooooo broke! Whaaaaaaa!”
“I guess I just went into fight or flight mode, you know? Only my “flight” is more like “cry.”
“Should we invent something? Destroy something? Invent something that destroys things?”
“Sometimes your heart tells you when you’re in love. Your tummy too. Both can sure make you sick.”
“You want another one? That seems a little greedy, don’t you think?”
“An apple a day keeps the doctor away. An onion a day keeps everyone away.”
“I really watched my...language...here today. I’m not usually quite so...you know, so polite.”
And remember that bad times...are just times that are bad.”

My Current Completion Status on every Main Series Pokemon Generation:
Gen 1: Completed Red, Blue and Yellow multiple times each and completed the pokedex in Yellow including Mew, this one’s like 120% done
Gen 2: Completed Gold, Silver and Crystal at least once each with the majority of pokemon caught, pretty done too
Gen 3: Completed Ruby and got every pokemon possible without trading (It took me FOREVER to finally gather up enough motivation to beat Ruby when I was younger and the only reason I actually finished it was because I got Platinum and wanted to finish Gen 3 first) Completed a Firered Nuzlocke so this one’s pretty done too
Gen 4: Completed Platinum and did a lot of the extra stuff, not full pokedex but pretty close. Same deal with Soulsilver, completed and got a lot of the pokedex but not 100%, feel pretty good about this gen
Gen 5: Don’t have Black or White but I have watched Let’s Plays so I get the story, and completed Black 2, actually only missing two pokemon in the whole pokedex but they’re the only two you can’t complete in one run so I’m okay with this gen too I may come back to BW1 at some point if I feel like it but don’t really feel like I have “unfinished business” with this gen except that I never did the world tournament. So not exactly complete but it’s not like we left this gen hanging or anything.
Gen 6: This is where things get interesting, Gen 6 was where I got back into Pokemon hard, I have hundreds of hours in Pokemon Y, full pokedex completion and a shiny hoard I gained from gaming the GTS for a whole summer, I’ve also done a Wonderlocke in another copy of Pokemon Y that I found and did some stuff in Pokemon X too since there was a promotion to get a free copy of the other version of the game or something I don’t remember. Omega Ruby though I completed the Elite Four but never finished the Delta Episode so this is the first Gen I feel like I haven’t completed to the full extent despite me playing Y like way more than any other pokemon game.
Gen 7: So... uhh... I didn’t do a lot in Moon, I did the first couple trials but the new format threw me off way hard and the secret encounters with the trial captains kinda pissed me off because by the time I heard about them I was too overleveled to make the fights any kind of interesting so I kinda have this one on indefinite hold and never got Ultra Sun/Moon as a result. This one’s the only gen where I own like a full half uncompleted game and idk if I’ll ever be motivated to get back to it since going back to a Pokemon game is always super awkward but I also don’t want to start over cause then I’ll lose my event Snorlax with the Z-Move since you can’t transfer items in Bank/Home so idk what I’mma do with this gen really.
Gen 8: I actually have all eight badges in Sword and just never got around to finishing the game, unlike Moon I do think I can work up motivation to finish this off sometime soon and the multiple save files thing means I can also do challenge runs or other runs for fun and stuff whenever I want. Still never got the DLCs though but maybe if I’m really feeling it after that point.
So really I’m just missing the Delta Episode in Gen 6 pretty much all of Gen 7, and a little bit in Gen 8, (as well as the first games in Gen 5 if you want to count those, gameplay-wise they feel similar enough to a third version like Platinum that I don’t feel super bad about skipping them) I just wanted to make a list of what I have and haven’t done in the mainline games cause I’m making eyes at the Virtual Console version of Crystal atm and my brain is like “YOU HAVEN’T FINISHED LIKE THE LAST FIVE POKEMON GAMES” but really it’s only threeish so this makes me feel a bit better XD Thanks for reading my little rant!

Note
I know you did this recently but what’s your opinion on all the mainline games and why :3
I’ve done this from favourite to least favourite. I also didn’t include the original 3 as I either haven’t played them in a long time or because I gave up halfway through *cough* 2 *cough*
5
I know it’s such an unpopular game but it’s one of the only ones I can play over and over again without getting bored. Story-wise, chapter 5-2 to 6-3 is the only interesting part. If I want to play a game without putting in too much effort, or take last night for example; I got really sick of trying to defeat Miranda on village of shadows and I was getting so mad over it. I turned on 5 and chilled for a couple hours. I really don’t know what it is about this game Wesker but I’m so drawn to it.
4
I love 4 for so many reasons but nostalgia is the reason why it places higher than CV. I remember watching my dad play it when it was first released. I thought it was the creepiest thing😂 This was when they first introduced the action element into the games, unlike 6, it had just the right amount of action paired with creepy ganados and eerie music to make it still feel like a resident evil game. OH AND THE WHOLE COLLECTING TREASURE/SELLING IT IS MY FAVOURITE THING.
Code Veronica
Solid game. 10/10. I felt so accomplished after beating it for the first time (it took me like 20 hours 😂) It was so frustrating but in a good way, apart from the part where I got to Alexia and realised I didn’t have the magnum and had to restart. I looooved the cheesy voice acting aswell. Capcom please remake this game I will love you forever. I want remake cv Wesker.
1 remastered
Game remake done right. This one was👌🏻👌🏻 All I’m gonna say is Wesker in his stars uniform is what does it for me 😌
2 remake
I enjoyed this a lot. Slightly different from what I played of the original but I’m not complaining. Mr X was terrifying, birkin was sexy terrifying, the ivys were HORRIFYING. Can we please talk about how good the RPD looked and the stars office like wow 🤩
3 remake
It was so rushed and I’m able to complete it in under an hour so that’s a huge disappointment, but I guess it’s good if I want to do a speed run. Resistance was probably the best thing to come out of this game tbh. It wasn’t terrible it just didn’t live up to the hype. Also Nicholai? I hated what they did with him, and Brad. Nemmy was a letdown too. He has nothing on Mr X.
Village
This game was so beautiful, the scenery was amazing. Horror wise I’d give it a 4/10. The Benviento house was the only part of the game where I felt slightly on edge and I loved every second of it. It felt a lot more like resident evil than 7 did, it had 4 vibes and that’s what did it for me. I didn’t care for Ethan whatsoever until I finished this. I’m not gonna lie to you but I sobbed so hard at the end. Not quite sure why they felt the need to try and incorporate umbrella in it somehow because it didn’t seem right; umbrella died years ago, we don’t need anymore origin stories. (Although the Spencer letter at the end was cool I have to admit.) Dimitrescu is overhyped in my opinion but that’s okay, if she makes you happy then you do you. Heisenberg was cool but his boss fight was really dumb (I’m not just saying that because it took me 2 days to defeat him on village of shadows.)
Revelations 2
Creepy af. I feel like it’s underrated and I’m not even sure if you’d class it as one of the main games, but I loved Alex (prefer her newer design though) and I adore Franz Kafka which made it that much more enjoyable for me. I wasn’t a fan of the whole switching between two characters and the timeline really confused me at first. It would’ve been so much easier to understand if they’d done Claire and Moira’s campaign first, then Barry and Natalia. The ending opens up a huge amount of possibilities for a future game and I’d really love to see “Natalia” again.

You’d think this would be higher on the list as Rebecca is my favourite character, but no. Absolutely not. It was nice to have a prequel and see my baby get her own game, I just found it so boring, I hated Billy, I hated the switching between characters. I hated dropping items on the floor and having to trek back to retrieve them again. ITEM BOXES ARE A THING!! I played it once, then played Wesker mode (which was terribly done but Rebecca looked super cute) then I gave it to a friend who got the platinum trophy for me 😂

I liked the Bakers. Was an incredibly creepy game but lacked the resident evil vibe. I despised pretty much all of it, especially when Chris comes in with that stupid face. Capcom!! What were you thinking?!?! Lore wise, it’s good. Everything else just sucked in my opinion.

Too long. Too many characters. Too many different places. Not enough horror. Brain malfunction. 50+ hours it took me to platinum this. Simmons was a shite villain, Carla seemed pointless, Wesker suddenly has a kid? It’s almost comical.
Revelations
Speaking of comical, we’re onto my least favourite title in the series: revelations. I don’t really think it’s fair for me to give my opinion on this one as I only got halfway through the game before throwing it somewhere in my room for it to never be seen again. It was almost painful for me to play. It was nice to have Chris and Jill but the other two (Parker and whatever her name was) were so annoying. Then there was the two dudes who were just added for comic relief for absolutely no reason. I played Rev 2 before playing this one as I couldn’t get hold of it and I was super excited when I managed to get hold of a copy. Honestly it was such a waste of £25.
I didn’t realise how long this post was but thanks for asking!!
