in light of recent canon academic conversations, riz adaine gorgug study sessions have never been more real to me. gorgug helps riz + adaine get out of their own heads when they’re overworking themselves, riz + adaine help gorgug with alternative studying methods because he learns best through visuals + experience. fabian’s there occasionally when he has a particularly difficult assignment/test but he makes them all swear never to speak of it in order to protect his “image.” kristen has shown up exactly twice: once for advice on a group project that was two months overdue & once to just lay on the floor and relax for an hour before leaving. fig didn’t know the study sessions were happening until sophomore year & now keeps getting monthly bans because every time she shows up she ends up accidentally distracting riz + adaine. also, sometimes after/in the middle of really long study sessions riz adaine & gorgug go to basrar’s together to unwind but fabian kristen & fig Are Not Invited (they do still text to ask if anyone wants something brought back from basrar’s. they’re not heartless, after all).

I rewatched the bus stop scene for Reasons™️ and I'm deep in my Pat feels.
The exchange is subbed in English as "say we're friends" - "no." - "lovers, then" but from what I can tell, in Thai, it's really closer to
Pat: "imagine that you and I are friends--"
Pran: "Impossible."
Pat: "Okay, that you're my lover(*) then."
Pran: "Huh?!"
(* the word he uses is แฟน /fɛːn/, which I'm guessing everyone on BBS twitter recognises by now. Basically boyfriend/girlfriend, but gender neutral? ish)
And that makes that just sliiiightly too long break before Pat is like "it's just so we get a different perspective!!" EVEN WORSE, at least to me. The way Pran looks at Pat, and looks away, and blinks -- he wants that "darling" Pat throws his way to be real so bad.
And then!!
And then, when Pran refuses to be the hottest architecture girl of his year and Pat, without missing a beat, is like "okay, so we're both the respective hottest guys of our faculties, and we're boyfriends", and Pran is still not biting? Pat then the immediate follows that up with "you're the husband, I'm the wife".
I used to see those as separate statements – as Pat immediately falling back on the idea that okay, if boyfriends is out, he'll be a girl for the purpose of this weirdly specific hypothetical scenario he's trying to build. But the more often I watch it, the more I can only read that as "look, just play along, I'm not trying to dig at your masculinity or whatever, I'll be the more feminine partner" (**), because a) this is the exact husband-wife-terminology Pran asks/tells Pat to stop using in ep 9, and b) when Pran scoffs "you're a damn masculine wife," Pat pivots again and starts roleplaying high femme.
And something about how he's so willing, as early as this, to go along with whatever he needs to in order for Pran to be comfortable, to open up, just tugs at my heartstrings. Even now, several full rewatches later.
(**) yes, I know, tons to unpack. not for this post tho.

Are you optimistic about season 26?
erm um… no?? 🥲
Season 25 and Streaming Wars had their moments, but overall the delivery of ideas felt lackluster. Much like the last 2 years, I expect a running theme. Essentially, the season won’t really be a season per se, but acts as narrative buildup interspersed with side episodes—though they will loosely connect to the season—leading up to the 2 specials airing later this year. It’s a solid game plan on paper, but s25/SW was super dodgy. I feel the saving grace was Tolkien’s renaming, and Cartman’s whole hot dog arc thing that just got set up. I know Randy was given competition (finally! the little resistance and pushback to his hijinks has done serious damage to his character) but really the biggest takeaway I’ve seen from fans/merch is stuff from Cartman’s arc. (cartitties).
However, I feel Matt and Trey have been revitalized by the concert, Casa Bonita’s opening, and their deepfake deal. It’s a double edged sword though, because now Mattrey are juggling the opening of a restaurant, production for the video game, their deepfake studio… I’m worried their attention will be divided and affect the quality of the story this season.
TLDR: Very mixed feelings, though not quite approaching cautiously optimistic… I expect the fresher ideas (HotDog) to get sidelined and Randy will remain in focus.
