One of the biggest reasons I try to recruit all the characters in Three Houses isn’t just because I don’t want to kill them, but because if I do, I still have to go back to the monastery afterward. I still have to pass by their dorm rooms full of their belongings and know that’s where they spent their alone time and where they slept. I still have to pass by the spots they frequented the most. It’s not just the sad dialogue of characters reacting to the deaths, but passing by the spots I vividly remembered them hanging out at.
I realized this most in my first playthrough when I didn’t have the chance to recruit everyone and I accidently killed Raphael at Gronder. I didn’t have the enemy attack range turned on so I didn’t realize he was in range of attacking.
During an exploration, I was looking for Ignatz who was, unfortunately, in his dorm room... and I walked into the wrong room and into Raphael’s after he was killed and man that fuckin’ sucked! Feels bad but like, multiplied with big numbers, u kno??? ???
YES, IT’S A VIDEO GAME. YES, I HAVE HUMAN BEING FEELINGS ABOUT IT.
#DCB Comments#I also didn't get to recruit Ferdie in my first playthrough which is what I mean about#characters mentioning others dying. like Dorothea saying ''we killed Ferdie'' didn't hit nearly as hard as#walking into now dead Raphael's room and seeing all his stuff still lying around the way it was left when everyone had to flee#AND THE WORST PART? it's not like I MEANT to go into his room and stew on it. I completely accidentally walked into it#because I was trying to find/talk to Ignatz who was in his own room. MIND YOU after that I made it a point to NOT#walk into Ferdie's room and have that same thought process! because like. Raphael isn't one of my faves#and it was a huge Feels BAD Man moment walking into HIS room#forget if I walked into the room of someone I loved!!! I did try to recruit him but it just didn't work fast enough#I BARELY got Caspar in that run bc it was the final month which is only two weeks and I think I actually#didn't even get him the first week. I'm pretty sure I got him on the absolute last week so literally on#the absolute last possible exploration for recruiting. I had Linhardt already so I was hellbent on getting Caspar#bc I didn't want them to have to be enemies. basically I'd watched the game online already before playing#bc I didn't own the game or a Switch for a while after the game was out. I knew the spot you fight them at#and that they're both in the same chapter as enemies if not recruited which meant that if I only got Linhardt#that Caspar would be alone as my enemy and he wouldn't even have his best buddy there AND they'd be enemies#also tho Raphael just hit hard because I may not consider him a fave at all but he was still a nice dude you know??? ??? ???#like he's just a regular nice guy vibing and like... realizing that gentle nice man was killed in war#and walking into his old room was SADS. very big sads#DCB Three Houses Stuff

Rin thinks you’re pretty.
No, scratch that; it was far too inadequate to describe you that way. If he were to be utterly honest, you were exquisitely, heartbreakingly beautiful, far more than his heart could contain.
You’re pretty when you spoke, when you said his name, when you smiled – oh God, don't even get him started on how your smile could brighten even the darkest of days. He was certain that a face like yours was meant for smiling, and it was even brighter when he was the reason behind it.
Right now, however, Rin finds it hard to look at your face when you’re like this – crying.
and it is even worse when he’s the source of it.
“Stop crying, dumbass,” he whispered, sighing.
“Then stop getting into fights, you asshole,” you retorted back in between sobs.
Rin fell silent after your reply. He couldn't find the right words, not with your sobs filling the room and drowning his thoughts. He watched you as you applied a small amount of betadine to a cotton swab and wiped away your tears before turning to him.
“Take a seat. Let me clean that,” you offered, pertaining to the small cut o n his lip.
Rin took one long look at your face, and without a word, he moved to the corner of your bed, feeling the familiar dip of the mattress beneath him while you pulled the chair beside your table and placed it in front of him.
He'd been here countless times before. Growing up with your mothers being best friends meant that you were practically childhood friends by default, and that also meant spending endless hours in each other's homes.
But this time was different from all the previous visits; it was the first time he was in your room, no longer just a close friend anymore. That reality and your crushing tears – they were consuming all corners of his thoughts.
You closed the gap between you two to get a better look at the swollen cut from a blow he had taken. You gently dabbed the swab around the wound and felt Rin's sharp intake of breath as you did so.
You began to reason, “This wouldn't happen if you could've just–”
“I don't want to hear it.”
You bit your lower lip and tears started swelling again in the corner of your eyes. Rin was nothing if not so fucking stubborn– that you knew since childhood, but you wished he could put it aside for a moment and truly listen to you.
“Okay,” you coldly said, conceding and turning your focus on cleaning his wound.
Rin wanted to pummel his own self in the ground because of the passing hurt that graced your eyes from how he cut you off. A sniff escaped you and Rin physically felt his heart contract.
What was he supposed to do? Stand by and let those damn assholes make lewd comments about you? There was no way in hell he would just let it slide.
This wasn't the first time Rin had taken matters into his own hands when it came to you. Since third grade, Rin had taken his mom's words about looking after you to heart. And it had always been that way, even back when he was hellbent in denying his feelings. Not an ounce of rationality graces his mind when it comes to you, so you should've already known that he didn't have it in him to hold back.
He caught your hand and gently squeezed it. The gesture prompted you to look at him briefly before turning your gaze away, still hurt from his dismissal of your concern.
“I didn’t mean that,” he squeezes your hand again, “Look at me, please.”
You turned your head to meet your stubborn boyfriend. This time, you let the tears fall freely.
“I’m sorry,” he whispers, sincere and uncharacteristically gentle, “Speak to me, y/n.”
“I just..” you sobbed, “I don’t like it when you get hurt. That’s all.”
“I don’t like it more when you get hurt,” he countered.
“It's just some stupid words from stupid people, Rin. They're not worth it.”
“But you are.”
Your heart raced at Rin's words. when you raise your gaze to seek his’, you are met with a pair of half-lidded teal eyes staring right into you.
“You’re the one who’s worth it.”
Rin's words lingered in the air, leaving you utterly speechless. You never expected him to utter something so heartfelt – after all, this was Itoshi Rin. A man capable of almost anything, yet kind words seemed to be an exception. Then again, this was Rin, the very same man who believed he wasn't adept at love and yet chose to lay his heart bare in your palms, albeit a bit stubbornly.
As you struggled to find words to express how much his words meant to you, Rin gently raised his hands to wipe away the lingering tears in your eyes. His fingers brushed against the loose strands of hair nearly covering your eyes, tucking them away with meticulous care. His touch was so gentle that it’s almost hard to believe it was the same hands who mercilessly struck two men hours ago.
His other hand snaked around your waist, pulling you closer until you were almost seated on his right leg. The closeness made your heart swell, and you couldn't help but nestle into his warmth.
“Stop crying, please?” he murmured, “you’re getting your snot in my shirt.”
Way to ruin a moment. “I hate you,” you jokingly scoff against his neck.
“No, you don’t,” he disagrees, so full of conviction it needed some humbling.
“You bet? No kisses,” you see him smirk at your declaration, “until that cut completely heals,” you added, wiping that smirk on his face.
A laugh escaped you at the sudden shift in his expression. gone was the challenged smirk and all that's left are furrowed brows and a subtle pout.
How dare you take that away from him? Maybe you do hate him, Rin is convinced.
“Still worth it, baby?” you ribbed, seemingly enjoying his misery.
“Yes.” with you finally smiling? Absolutely. You’re smiling, and sometimes, it’s enough and more – even for Itoshi Rin.

*
second year.
you've never loved dining in, you think, as a menu is pulled from your hands and you try to relax into your seat, looking around.
you're sitting in the corner, near a wall.
it's been an hour since you finished your mission--with nanami and haibara--and an hour since haibara insisted on all of you meeting the second years for dinner.
honestly, even if you'd had the energy to argue with him, his face would've broken you eventually. so, you followed your two best friends blindly, stumbling into this restaurant that smells a bit like burnt sugar.
your body aches from running around, and your head pounds from all of the mental strain it takes to protect both nanami and haibara at once (especially when they're both hellbent on being as reckless as possible at any available moment). you barely give suguru and shoko a 'hello,' as you near the table, and you ignore satoru completely.
(and the way your body immediately perks up at the sight of him).
the only reason you've even made it in the restaurant is because haibara let you lean on him the whole way here. someone better be coming to pick you up after this.
and when they push you into this seat--away from literally everything else--you don't even mind it. it's nice, a sort of protection from the outside world.
but, of course, none from the one right there.
satoru is sitting much too close to you. he's wild and animated, boasting about some curse that was no big deal for him, of course, with no consideration for personal space.
you can feel it when he breathes, when he laughs. his hand is basically on your thigh, and he's almost grabbed your drink on accident three separate times.
no one else has even commented on this, so you don't say anything.
it's definitely not because he's pleasantly warm--sickly warm, you think--or because you feel a bit relaxed with him right next to you instead of anyone else. at ease. and it's not because just sitting near satoru creates an automatic reaction within your body, a buzzing, and keeps you from falling asleep on the table. it has nothing to do with any of that.
you just don't want to make a scene.
you're staring down at the table, fiddling with a napkin and wondering how many other people have sat here, spilled their drinks, and shared these thoughts, when a hand pokes at your side, and you jump.
"hey," satoru says, leaning to meet your eyes. his mouth is ridiculously pink, and you can see the tips of his lashes from over his glasses. "you okay there?"
you push his face away with a hand, grimacing at him. you ignore the twinge in your shoulder, and the hundred other sore muscles in your body. "just fine, thanks."
satoru leans back, observing you for a moment. everyone else is lost in conversation, so there's no one to save you from his attention.
"that looks heavy," he says, eventually, with a ton of fake sympathy. and condescension. he's smiling at you, because when isn't he?
"what?" you say, frowning. you look around for a problem, but there isn't one.
then you meet his eyes again, and you know what he's going to say.
"your hand," he answers, easily, predictably. "let me hold it for you."
you slap him away before he can even try.
"were you genetically engineered in a lab to be annoying?" you ask him, scowling.
"just beautiful."
you roll your eyes, moving to sip on your tea. when you set it back down, satoru is still staring at you.
"what?"
"oh, nothing."
you frown, hoping that there isn't anything on your face. or that he hasn't realized that you don't want to be here. and then, before he can read any real expression, you smile sweetly at him. "you're popping my bubble, satoru."
"what bubble?"
"my personal space bubble," you answer, sharply, pushing at his chest. "move over. you know there's a whole other end of the booth right there?"
satoru looks to his other side, to the empty spot where he should be sitting, and then back to you with a wince. "you want me to sit next to nanami?"
you stare at him blankly. "i want you to allow me free will over my limbs."
"but he scares me."
"want me to tell him that?"
satoru sighs, but moves over a single inch. because he's nice.
"seriously?"
satoru stares at you, pointing towards the centimeter of both you can see between your bodies like it's a solution to your problem. when you say nothing, he pouts. "what? i like sitting next to you."
"you can sit there and not attempt to suffocate me," you tell him, shaking your head. you look away and go back to playing with the napkin you stole. "i promise it's possible."
"where's the fun in that?"
you sigh, and satoru leans his head on your shoulder. you don't even comment on the fact that he's even closer now, or that he smells like a gallon of sweat.
no, in all actuality, you don't really want him to move. you want him to stay right there and be your block from the world.
not that you'd ever admit that out loud.
"i really hate you," you tell him, quietly, once you've realized that you haven't said anything.
satoru smiles up at you, teeth peeking out from bright pink lips. then he groans theatrically. "you know i can't resist flattery, sweetheart."
you roll your eyes again. "how have you survived this long?" you wonder aloud. and then you pause. "no, wait. i already know."
"what?"
"special grade sorcerer," you whisper, in mock awe. you shiver when satoru runs a hand up your thigh, just to mess with you.
"i'll let you try to kill me next time we spar," he says, shaking his head at you. his hair is soft and ticklish against your neck.
you still don't move him.
"i refuse to spar with you."
he frowns. "you spar with suguru."
"'cause he doesn't cheat."
"i don't cheat."
"no cursed techniques during hand-to-hand combat," you recite.
he continues to pout, like the child he is. "how is that fair?"
you sigh at him, shaking your head. you don't have the energy to remind him of simple rules.
"c'mon," satoru says, leaning up and nudging you. "just once. it'll be fun."
he taps your nose with a finger.
you grab it. "we've sparred before, and we will not be doing it again."
satoru just smiles at you.
and the two of you sit there like that, staring at each other, your hand wrapped around satoru's stupid finger, waiting for the other to break.
his eyes are ridiculous, you think, for the hundredth time ever. the only real reason he's still alive is because of how pretty he is. if his bone structure was even slightly different, you think, he'd be dead.
satoru stares back, maybe thinking the same things you are.
but eventually, you're broken out of the daze.
"satoru," shoko says, again, and you both snap to look at her. she's got a brow raised. "did you hear anything i just said?"
you and satoru exchange a glance and ignore the looks of everyone else at the table. your body settles once again, no longer ignited solely by satoru's concentration you you.
finally, satoru moves away from you, leaning on his elbow to focus in on whatever conversation his friends are having.
you don't even realize that your hand is still wrapped around him, or when, eventually, satoru intertwines his fingers with yours.
you go back to eating your dinner, and you're very comfortable with the amount of space you have to yourself now.
really.
*
"hey," you say, pulling your jacket tighter around your body.
it's too cold to be outside, but it's too loud to be in bed. too quiet. "can't sleep?" you ask suguru.
you crept out of your room just ten minutes ago. you were only going to get something to drink--something to soothe your irritating heart--when you realized that it would never work.
so you ventured outside, instead, not really caring about rules or being caught.
and just when you were walking across the courtyard, you stumbled upon him (for a brief moment, you'd thought it was yaga, and almost ran back inside.)
but suguru just sitting there, on the steps, looking out into the forest like it'll come up with some answers for him. his hair is tied up, and he's got a better jacket on than you do.
you look at it a bit enviously.
suguru blows out a breath, the smell of cigarette smoke filling the air. you watch the puff as it disappears into the air. "no, you?"
"can i sit?" you ask, looking at the space beside him. suguru nods, watching as you sit down beside him, shivering. "nightmares," you tell him, answering the question.
he smiles at you, shaking his head ambiguously.
you gesture towards his hand. "i didn't know you smoked."
suguru almost laughs. "i don't, really. shoko's a bad influence."
he holds it towards you, but you shake your head.
"no, thanks. i've got enough bad habits to last a lifetime."
he laughs, stamping out the rest of the unsmoked bud on the ground.
you look towards the trees, almost expecting something to jump out from behind them--even though you know that no curse can touch you, or anyone here.
you don't get a lot of alone time with suguru. you're comfortable enough around him--and haibara sings enough praises for you to know what he's like. still, you're not sure what to say to him, or what he might know about you.
probably too much, you think.
eventually, you look back to suguru, smirking. "so, did you leave satoru sleeping by himself in your bed?"
"he snores," suguru answers, easily, and his shoulder brushes against yours.
you giggle, flexing your hands, trying to regain some feeling in your fingers.
a small part of you is glad that he's out here, right now. that there's someone else to be around, to remind you that it's all okay. and, if worst comes to worst, suguru is a lot stronger than you are.
you look up to the sky, tracing the remains of clouds with your eyes. there are no shapes to be made out--there never are, this late at night. and it's different here, at school.
at home, you can hear all of the bugs at night, and you can smell the breeze as it passes through. but here, it's almost irrationally silent. it doesn't smell like anything here. like cursed energy is strong enough to fade out the smell of the pine or the pollen.
you're silent, looking around.
"do you want my jacket?" suguru asks, suddenly, after you've shivered against him for the seventh time.
you look towards him, trying to ignore how cold you feel, and you sniff. "no, it's okay."
suguru's got a sly smile when he says, "probably shouldn't, anyway."
"what do you mean?"
he laughs to himself, then shakes his head.
you feel like you're missing something as you wait for him to answer. to clue you in on the joke.
"do you get them a lot?" he asks, instead of answering your confused glance. "nightmares?"
you swallow, nodding. "yeah. do you?"
"all the time."
"any advice? haibara says you've got overwhelming amounts of wisdom."
he snorts. "haibara..." he whispers, almost appreciatively.
you tilt your head at him, waiting.
"i'm only a year older, you know?"
you nod, consider it for a moment. then you think about satoru--inevitably--and what he said last time you mentioned the mere one year of age between the two of you. "well, a year is a long time for a sorcerer, isn't it?"
suguru makes a face. "i guess that's true."
you lean your chin on a palm, waving a hand. "so...?"
he grins at you. "finding someone to wake up next to helps," he says, only slightly teasing.
you understand what he's getting at, so you roll your eyes. "not all of us have a clingy best friend."
"satoru would cuddle with you if you asked."
"good thing i'm never asking."
"yeah, you shouldn't," suguru answers, feeling much older than he is, "he kicks."
"i bet."
suguru laughs again and clears his throat, looking around. you know there's nothing there, but you wait anyway. "i just try to remember that it's not real..." he says, eventually, "even if it seems like it."
you sigh, looking back to the forest separating your two worlds. "that's gonna be difficult, because i only dream about curses. and those are all real."
not to mention the other very real things you have nightmares about. the memories, the yelling, the quivering ideas that hide themselves in the corners of your head, begging to be let go, to be let out.
suguru must see this on your face; you're assuming it's fairly obvious.
he nudges you, but doesn't say anything for a moment, just looking back when you look at him. and then. "i have dreams about it, too."
you furrow your brows at him. "about what?"
"home. my parents."
you swallow, pausing. you blink rapidly, trying to regain your ground. "i don't..."
his face relaxes, at once. "satoru talks too much," he says, trying to joke. "especially about you."
you ignore that. "i don't--i barely think about my... parents. i'm too busy."
"i think your situation is probably worse than mine," suguru answers, obviously ignoring your lies. "my parents didn't tell me to leave. but... it was obvious that i couldn't stay."
it doesn't seem worth it to try and deny it, and if he's going to offer up information willingly, then who are you not to listen?
"how old were you?"
"eight," he says, easily. "you?"
"ten."
he nods, scratching at his neck. "i didn't tell anyone about it, for a long time. i thought... i knew that they wouldn't--"
"get it?"
"yeah."
you huff, relaxing at once. you slouch down, staring at the ground. suguru is wearing dirt-covered shoes, and you've got slippers on. "wish i'd thought of that. if i hadn't told anyone i'd probably still be there."
"you'd be hiding, though," suguru says, watching you, "trying to pretend like you fit in there, even if you didnt. couldn't."
"it would've been easier to pretend than having to live through it," you say, softly, absolutely sure about this. you've had a lot of time to think about it. then you smile, "i would've made a good human."
suguru laughs, tapping his foot against the ground. "what would you have done? if you weren't a sorcerer, i mean."
"uh..." you frown. you've never given the real world much thought--not beyond foolish dreams and stupid glances--"i think i'd be a taxi driver or something."
he snorts. "satoru says that you're a terrible driver."
"big talk from someone who can't drive," you say, scoffing. "and he was distracting me the entire time." you shake your head, annoyed at just the memory. "what would you be?"
he pauses. "...a teacher?"
"this is what haibara means by wisdom," you say, laughing. "maybe i wouldn't be a good human. i can't imagine doing anything else."
"maybe not."
you swallow. there are not very many stars in the sky, but you can still see all of the constellations and the stories written within the sky. part of you wonders if you'll be up there someday, another myth to speak about.
no, probably not. satoru will be written in history, and you'll still be here, always thrown out or forgotten
"do you think... do you think that my parents would be sorry? if they could talk to me now? if they saw what i can do?"
suguru hums, he doesn't even seem surprised by the question, to his credit. "i don't know... they--non-sorcerers--can't really understand, can they? they don't know that we exist solely to protect them, so they can't appreciate it. it makes it hard to be... angry, at them, doesn't it?"
you blow out a breath, looking away from the stars. "yeah."
"when yaga scouted me," suguru says, "my parents thought he was crazy. i understood what he said immediately, but they couldn't believe that anything like this could exist. and then, when i told them about the curses i was seeing, and absorbing..."
you look at him. his face is tense and easy, all at once. he doesn't mind telling you this, you realize. maybe haibara was right.
his eyes are contemplative as he looks around the courtyard, thinking about things you're sure you've thought about too.
"they thought i was crazy too, after that," he continues, finally. "my dad avoided me, and my mom never tried to argue with me about leaving. neither of them minded that i was going to this bizarre school and might not ever come home. even though they thought that yaga was a maniac."
you look at the ground, trying to push the memories out. you bite the inside of your cheek and wonder if there was ever a way to save that smaller version of yourself. if she'd grown up here, would she be the same?
"i think," suguru says, voice a bit harder, "that even if i was crazy, and all of the things i saw and experienced were fake, that if my parents truly cared about me, then they would've tried to help. they wouldn't have... ignored me, or treated me like i was the curse."
your neck snaps to him, and his eyes meet yours. suguru lets a thoughtful smile slip from his lips as he says, "it's not your fault that they didn't understand. that they couldn't. but it's their fault that they never tried to."
maybe it's because you haven't dared to speak with anyone about it--beyond snarky remarks to satoru when he says something ignorant--or maybe it's because suguru is the only person who gets it. who truly understands in a way that only children can.
or maybe it's just that you've been waiting for someone to say that to you since you were ten. since you were rejected solely for being yourself, being different.
six years of wondering if it was ever fair.
you swallow, nodding.
"sorry," he whispers after you're lost for words, struggling to put the pieces of you back. "but you can talk to me, if you want. i've been told i'm very wise."
you snort, shaking your head. he's like satoru in that way--shaking you out of whatever matters. "i really need to stop telling satoru things. he can't ever keep his mouth shut."
suguru laughs, looking at the sky. "no, don't."
"hmm?"
"don't stop telling him things. i'll have to hear all about it."
you laugh.
"'why would she be mad at me?'" suguru mocks, in a very good impression of satoru's honey-flow voice. "'i didn't even do anything.'"
"'i didn't know it was a secret,'" you say back, suddenly lighter.
suguru nudges you, hand wrapped around your forearm. just there. his fingertips are cold, but you don't mind.
"does satoru really tell you about the things we talk about?" you ask, after a while.
your entire body feels numb now, and you might freeze out here, but somehow it's worth it. just to not be alone for once.
suguru looks over at you, his brown eyes slight and knowing. "he doesn't need to," he says.
you have to look away, just so he doesn't catch that shock--the brief moment of recognition, pleasure--as it passes. but you smile in the dark eventually, letting it go unsaid.
and that's just how things are.
you spend your late nights chatting with suguru in the dark, both of you hopelessly lost and completely insane.
you let satoru irritate you whenever he wants, and sometimes you even bask in it. letting all of the horrors wash away with every quip that you send his way.
and you ignore that light--and heavy--feeling in your chest around him, pretending that it doesn't exist, or maybe it just doesn't matter.
you spend time with people who understand you, for once. you let the fear flow away in concerning thoughts and subconscious glances inward. you let the fears of attaching yourself to them fade away.
you know that any of you could be gone, could live with the regret of never living, at any moment, so you choose not to care about any of it. you go on missions and you act like your life is a feeble thing to play around with.
and it's honestly not all that bad.
until riko amanai, that is.
*
third year.
"suguru," your voice almost catches when he opens the door.
how many days has it been since you've seen him? how many weeks?
you've spent the last several weeks trying to let the two of them settle. into life, into existing, whatever.
you ask shoko how they're both doing--satoru and suguru--and she just shrugs.
"they don't like to talk about it," she tells you, and you try to just accept it. you try to let it go and worry about yourself, about your own messed up life.
but everything feels different.
satoru hasn't been answering your calls, which, okay, fine. you could deal with that. but he also hasn't been calling you, or showing up at your door just to talk, or stealing your breakfast, or clinging to you like he does.
he hasn't been doing any of it. and you could pretend you haven't noticed--that it doesn't matter to you if he cares or not. if he wants to be around you or not.
but it matters.
you decided to let him in at the beginning of the year, and you hadn't thought it was a mistake until now. until this exact moment, when you realized that you'd gotten too close to satoru. that you were friends, or...
you look at suguru now and you try not to gape.
his face is dreadfully grey, his eyes almost completely sunken in. he looks like an elderly man who hasn't slept in five years, just on the verge of death.
and you know from shoko that he's been gone a lot, like satoru, that he's been busy, but... still. this doesn't happen to overworked sorcerers. the recovery rate for all of you is extremely quick.
you really try not to gape. you try not to stare at him for too long, but you can't peel your eyes away.
"y/n," he whispers, no pleasantries needed. even his voice sounds rough. "is something wrong?"
you should probably be asking him that.
"no, i..." you stare for a moment, swallowing. maybe it's just his hair. you've never seen it down before, you realize, trying to refrain from taking a step back. still, there's that feeling in your chest--reminiscent of being a child, of dealing with satoru. you exhale. "are--are you sick?"
"what?"
"you look..."
suguru's eyes widen, and he nods, eventually, looking caught. "yeah, i guess i came down with something... i'm just..."
he looks behind him, and you get the sudden feeling that he doesn't want you there. doesn't want you to disturb whatever this is.
it makes you wonder if he and satoru have talked at all, since it happened almost a month ago. maybe two months.
you all know that sorcerers die all of the time. that people die just from living, curses or not.
so why is this death any different? why does this one matter? you want so desperately to ask.
"sorry, i can--i'll come back--" you say quickly, turning. then you turn around again, feeling guilty. "do you need anything? medicine? um... food?"
finally, a small smile makes its way to suguru's face. it's small, almost unnoticeable. but something inside you relaxes.
it shouldn't be this surprising that he even remembers how.
"did you need something?" he asks, softly, talking to you like he always does.
like you're sitting outside again, talking about life, ethics, being a sorcerer, and having a part of yourself hate it.
but this is so much different.
your stomach drops again. this is a ridiculous, stupid thing to even be asking. you shouldn't be here, worrying about this. you should be in your dorm, studying. you should be training with nanami, or trying to get haibara to come with you on a mission...
you shouldn't even be here.
you feel like a deer in headlights, caught in this the same way you caught suguru in whatever.
but he already knows, you rationalize. he already knows.
everyone knows, you think. everyone but you and satoru, according to shoko's comments.
so what do you care if suguru knows this?
"i, um, i just haven't..." you swallow, wanting to punch yourself in the face. are you really this pathetic? "have you seen satoru?" you ask, blurring the words together. "i know you've both been... busy, but i--i've been trying to get ahold of him, and shoko says that he won't answer her messages, and it's been a couple of weeks since i've seen him around school, so i just figured--" what? that suguru would have some brilliant answer for you? that he could reassure you that satoru wasn't trying to ignore you? "--that you might know where he is... or if he's okay? he's your best friend so--"
"i haven't seen him, either. we've been doing seperate missions," suguru says, interrupting whatever terrible thing you were about to say next, luckily. "he hasn't been answering your calls?"
your responding "no," sounds so small you want to bury yourself beneath the earth.
you really don't care about him, okay? you really don't.
you just want to be notified if he's dead or something. you just want to know if you did something to make him avoid you, or if he needs someone there, or if...
suguru frowns, contemplating something. "i think he's supposed to be home in a couple of days," he says, tucking a stray lock of hair behind his ear. it looks wet, and greasy, like he hasn't washed it in weeks. "but i'll text him."
"...you don't have to."
he smiles, knowingly. he gives you that same look that everyone does. that look that tells you that they know more about what's going on between you and satoru than you do. "it's no problem. you know how... spacey satoru can get."
"yeah. i know."
"you don't need to worry about him," suguru says, laughing a little bit. his eyes are so cold, bland.
"i know," you say, again, a bit more defensively. you take a step back. you're not sure why you expected suguru to have any answers for you.
(maybe it's because they're best friends and they're supposed to be there for each other. or maybe it's because they just went through the same terrible experience, and should probably depend on each other right now).
maybe he told him not to answer, you think, instantly. maybe suguru is working for him.
not that you care. if satoru doesn't want to talk to you--doesn't want suguru to talk to you--then you can't do anything about it.
you just have to live through this like you've lived through everything else.
he's just a classmate.
but the question slips through your lips, breaking down all denial. "is he... do you think he's okay?"
you want to clarify. you want to ask if they're both okay, if they've talked about any of it. if suguru needs you to get someone, like shoko, or if he wants to go sit on the steps and shout at the sky.
if he'll come with you to look for satoru because you're really worried about him.
if everything is okay.
but you know that suguru wouldn't answer that, especially not like this.
"are you okay, y/n?" suguru asks, and it's almost rhetorical. you can tell that he's trying to hit you where you're sore.
you feel frozen there for a moment, and then you turn away.
and that just about sums it up.
*
you're staring down at a white sheet, and all you can think is, this can't be happening.
not really, that is.
it's been a long time since you felt this deeply about anything. anger, sure. are you mad that your classmates are distancing themselves from you? are you mad that everyone seems to be advancing and you're stuck there, stagnant, while everyone else deals with everything?
of course.
but this...
you've had this nightmare a hundred times, but it's never gone like this. it's never been so untouchable, unforgettable, unbearable...
your entire body feels freezing; like you're the one who's dead.
have you already undergone rigor mortis? are you frozen there, muscles turned to stone?
this can't be happening, you think, again. so briefly it's not really a thought.
you're staring down at him. you're looking at him--at haibara--but this can't be how he really is, how he really was. haibara doesn't look like this, you think. you've never seen his hair this limp, never seen his face this pale. you've never seen him without a smile.
but nobody is smiling now.
you barely hear anything they're saying--the other people undergoing this, the other people who could probably tell you if this is real or not.
"...to exterminate a second-grade cursed spirit..." rings briefly out in your mind. you wonder if you imagined it.
your eyes glance down to the blood on the table. shouldn't shoko be here? shouldn't someone be doing something?
should you be doing something?
"nanami," someone says. "you should just rest for now." there's a hand on your shoulder, a whisper of another person in the room. "y/n, let's sit down."
are your legs shaking? is this a physical reaction to the news? you're always calm, always collected. the only person that--
"satoru has taken..." the same voice continues.
you pause, trying to listen, but their voices echo. if this were a dream, would you be able to listen? this is a dream, you think, just something to wake up from.
there's no one here to pull you out from this flood of emotions, of thoughts. satoru would usually, you think. he would be here and he would crack and joke and you wouldn't care about it anymore.
but satoru...
what should you do?
"can't we just let him handle everything alone at this point?" nanami asks, and you just hear it.
suguru ushers you over to the wall, where all of the stools are, one missing. he sits you down and you let him, because there's nothing else you can do.
your limbs are numb, and it's ridiculous to feel this way.
you barely even notice when you reach a hand out, grabbing nanami's, or when he grabs back, squeezing harder than you thought possible.
you should tell him that it hurts--that he's stronger than he looks--crack a joke or say something comforting, but you can't. you don't mind if he cracks all of the bones in your hand, as long as he stays right there.
"it's going to be okay," suguru says, maybe to you, maybe to nanami.
but he's lying. and you know it, even if you don't know anything else.
and when you try to knock on satoru's door later, feeling absolutely nothing, he doesn't answer.
not that you were expecting him to, anyway.
*
satoru doesn't think any of it is supposed to feel like this.
he's been hurt a hundred times. bruised when he let suguru get a hit in during practice, sliced up when he lets shoko try something on his body just to heal him right after, cut through the literal throat, and left to bleed out.
but it's never felt like this before.
he's ashamed, almost. lost.
what could he have done differently, he wonders? where did it all go wrong?
he thinks about amanai, thinks about suguru telling him not to be so arrogant, and then rejecting him just like that.
are you the strongest because you're satoru gojo? or are you satoru gojo because you're the strongest?
satoru almost wants to laugh.
well, he wants to say to suguru, how strong am i now? how strong am i like this?
but suguru isn't there. he's not coming back, satoru thinks, blandly, and his fists clench automatically. if anyone had asked him a week ago, he would've said that everything was fine.
everything was wrong, of course, but it was all fine.
shoko was staying at the school, helping with the damaged sorcerers, satoru was advancing more rapidly than he'd thought was possible, and suguru was...
what was he doing, again?
satoru blinks, and before he can answer that question for himself--answer any one of the goddamn questions floating around in his head--you're there.
you're there, and satoru suddenly can't remember the last time he saw you.
he certainly can't remember the last time he saw your eyes that sad, that wrong on the rest of your otherwise untouched face.
his defenses go down immediately, as they always do when you're around. it's probably a stupid decision, but satoru doesn't really care to rationalize it.
he's missed you, he thinks, suddenly. he's missed you more than he should.
you don't say anything when you sit down next to him, on the steps of the school, watching as his hands fall from their outstretched position.
"do you think that i'm strong?" satoru asks you, his voice rough, so tired.
and then he looks over to you and he watches as all of the thoughts pass on your face--the thoughts about suguru, knowing what he means, the worry and concern that he hasn't missed on your face since he first met you.
but you sigh, eventually, and you move a little bit closer to him.
"are you strong, satoru?"
he hasn't spoken to you in weeks, he remembers, suddenly. he doesn't even know why you're here now.
not when he's been avoiding you in favor of improving himself. not when he's been ignoring all of his responsibilities so he could try to get back to that place where there wasn't anything to care about.
"not strong enough," he answers, distantly. he's not even really sure if he means it.
your head falls to his shoulder in an instant, and you're there again.
satoru remembers every smile and every wince on your face. every time he made you laugh and then said something else just so he could try and do it again.
god, he's such a fool.
"that's okay," you whisper, eventually. "that's why you have me," you tell him.
"do i?" he wonders, aloud.
"hmm?"
"do i have you?"
you lift your head, and you're smiling, just a little. satoru can see the bitterness in your expression. he can tell that you're angry and that you're tired of it.
he can taste that hint of happiness that pours from you, that contradicting feeling of just being together again, even in a moment like this.
"of course," you say to him, softly. it's soft, unbelievable. "whenever you want."
satoru nods.
and you sit there with him for hours, and for once, you're the one pulling him out of everything.
just briefly satoru wonders what he would do if you left, too.
*
"what?" you repeat, watching nanami throw something into a suitcase.
you've been standing there for five minutes, processing this like you've processed everything recently.
meaning that you haven't. and that you're not going to as long as you'd like, thank you.
"what's the point of this?" kento answers, like you tried to tell him that there was a purpose to any of this. like you're just arguing.
but you can't be, because this isn't a discussion. you didn't happen upon his room and pick an argument with him.
you walked through the hall and you noticed the suitcase outside the door. the boxes he was stacking up to take somewhere else.
would he even have told you? would he have said anything if you hadn't stumbled upon it yourself?
"kento," you say, again, like a grounding tool. "i don't understand."
he sighs, folding a suit. "i'm not going to sit around and live this life. i don't care about jujutsu. i don't care about any of it."
"but, you..."
"there's no point, is there?" he asks, quietly, and he's not asking. "and even if there was, i don't care. i don't want to die doing this, y/n."
"you won't die," you answer, uselessly, trying to grab onto his arm, to get him to look at you. you want him to walk you through this, this thought process, the past three months here. "where are you going to go?"
"i don't know. i'll find an entry-level position somewhere."
"where are you going to live?"
"there's an available apartment in the city."
"but..."
"look," finally nanami turns around, meeting your eyes. he's never been emotional, but he looks even more stoic now. maybe he really doesn't care. "i don't want to be a sorcerer. i don't want to exterminate curses every day. i want to... live a normal life."
"what?" you repeat, feeling that terror rise in your chest.
so many people are leaving, you think. so many people are running away from this, and eventually, you're going to have to follow. or you'll rot here alone, hiding in the closet like you did as a kid.
"nanami, you can't just decide that you don't--"
"i already did."
"what about..." you swallow, and nanami shakes his head at you. his eyes are glazed over and you know he's not going to listen. you can feel it. "what about haibara?" you ask, finally, stepping over the boundaries you've laid down about him. "he wouldn't have wanted you to live some boring life in the city and run away from all of this--"
nanami's eyes are stern, his jaw clenches. "haibara died. isn't that proof enough that this doesn't matter?"
"it does matter," you say, even though you're not sure yourself. "it does."
"geto left, too. if the only two choices are staying and dying or leaving and living a boring life, then i choose the latter."
"suguru killed--" you pause, not wanting to talk about it out loud. you haven't seen satoru since the day you found out, and you don't want to risk having to think about him. "nanami, you're useful here. you're strong. you can do whatever--"
"gojo handles most of our cases now, anyway, doesn't he?"
you freeze, looking away. "well, he can't handle every curse, even if..."
"there's no point, y/n."
"what about--"
what about me?
he gives you one more look, another glance your way, another reminder that your only remaining classmate doesn't want to be that anymore. that there's nothing you can do to stop him from leaving.
it's your parents all over again.
are you the crazy one here? are you crazy for wanting to stay, even with all of the horror?
"i'm sorry," he says, after a moment, looking sincerely at you. but nanami has never been able to read your mind. he has never tried to spare your feelings--you thought you liked that about him. "we'll still talk. i'll call you."
"yeah, sure."
because you have to give up at some point. if nanami doesn't want to stay, you don't want to force him.
"this is what's best."
you nod blindly. and you wonder, for the first time since you got to jujutsu high, if you're strong enough for this.
*
 year zero.
"this is basically every kid's dream," satoru says, rolling his eyes. megumi is the most difficult kid he's ever encountered, and he refuses to be pleased. "i got you candy and i'm letting you stay up late. why aren't you normal?"
megumi looks up at him, a vigorous hatred in his eyes. "why aren't you?" he repeats, attempting to kick at satoru's foot.
honestly, it's a little pathetic.
satoru tries not to snort, about to tell megumi about the millions of children lacking in candy at this current moment, or about how he's actively trying to find them a place to sleep even after megumi tried to punch him in the stomach earlier and--
he looks over to tsumiki, the little angel who is in no way biologically related to megumi, and watches as she waves.
his brows furrow, and then he looks up, away from the child attempting to murder him with his eyes, and he sees you.
you're standing there, a figure illuminated by the light in your entryway, a wary look on your face.
you're looking at both of the children, eyes flicking between the two of them, probably noticing how small they are, or how wet their clothes are from the rain.
not that satoru cares, actually.
as soon as satoru sees you--as soon as he can feel you again, the familiar curves and concaves of your cursed energy, of your entire being--his heart shifts, clicking back into place.
you look a bit upset, angry at his intrusion as you've always pretended to be.
he hasn't seen you in months, and it's suddenly very apparent. you look almost exactly the same. maybe you got your hair cut, or maybe you've just woken up, but satoru doesn't care.
he doesn't care about any of it.
his lips curve into an involuntary smile, and he wants to throw himself on top of you and tell you a million little things. he wants to whisper all of his secrets in your ear and hold you until you force him to let you go.
but you clear your throat, interrupting him before he can begin, and your eyes finally look towards him, both firey and excited.
his favorite.
"satoru," you say, the sound of his name in your mouth sending goosebumps up and down his skin. "where did you get these kids?"

Cha know that space whale au that was made because of @puppetmaster13u calling Danny a space whale in a tag on a post they made?
Yea so I'm thinking of that again.
Now, hear me out. Instead of there being an active alien invasion happening when they arrived, they're faced with a completely calm looking Earth that looks about the same as Danny remembers.
Not that Vlad would remember, considering his time spent in the void where he forgot basically everything.
Of course, this giant whale does NOT go unnoticed by the people living on Earth and especially the Justice League.
They manage to make their ways onto Earth without being stopped by the Justice League, however. Suddenly, there was a giant whale that could clearly be seen from space with the human eye, and just as suddenly there was absolutely nothing there anymore.
Of course, it caused widespread panic, calls to the government for them to do something about this and especially multiple people asking the Justice League to explain whatever the hell that was.
Was it a new enemy? Another insanely powerful being hellbent on taking over the Earth? Maybe a scout?
Nobody knows anything, and that makes it worse. The Justice League are currently looking around for information, spearheaded by a highly paranoid Batman.
And I do like @bet-on-me-13's take that they lived in Atlantis before it sunk!
So imagine this, Danny and Vlad turn into their human forms (Which probably don't have human legs since they can't remember how to use those) and they try to find their old home. Danny? Is suuuuper excited about this, because he hasn't been home for a really long time and he knows that he's missed so much!
Even Vlad finds himself curious, his memories and (most of) his emotions eroded away by the void. But Danny says that this was his home before he became touched by the void, he's heard stories of what he used to be and that he greatly loved a certain team so he's a bit curious.
So, ancient space whale and void touched being goes towards where space whale believes- knows their home should have been.
Only to find nothing but water.

isekai concept in which you wake up as an orphan who is taken in by mr. leech. in the original novel, the main character grows up alongside troublesome twins jade and floyd, who will be the ones to kill them later on in the story when they're all grown adults. you only know this from a spoiler you learned, and even though you haven't finished the novel you know enough about the world and its rules to hopefully survive and avoid that ending. knowing this information from your previous life definitely helps when you suddenly find yourself in a large estate, where mr. leech introduces you to his sons, who regard you coldly. it's obvious they don't want anything to do with you. you'd be fine with that if they weren’t so instrumental to the plot and, subsequently, the fate of your life. it's imperative that you form a friendly bond, if only so you can save yourself from the ending that awaits you later on.
in the novel, the main character is notorious for being a doormat. they let jade and floyd push them around and bully them. they're weak and submissive, always crumbling under the slightest pressure. you're determined to change that. so when mr. leech starts teaching his sons self-defense, you ask to join in. if you're going to live with a looming death flag, you might as well learn how to defend yourself. under mr. leech's tutelage, you learn how to fight, wield certain weapons, and disarm a person. these lessons, while very helpful, also teach you something else: jade and floyd's distinct fighting styles. you make note of them while they're busy laughing at you for being unable to hit the target.
but it's to their surprise when you're the first out of the three of you to disarm mr. leech many months later. he's quite proud of you and your progress, pats you on the head to congratulate you. floyd throws a fit about it, irritated that you're the one who succeeded first. after the lesson, he and jade corner you and demand you share your technique. you're not scared of two little brats, so you stand up to them. "i don't owe you anything," you snap, scowling.
unfortunately, that only makes them even more curious.
what made the main character so appealing to the twins was their affinity for crying at every minor inconvenience. whenever the twins would bully them, they'd cry and call them mean. you're not going to show them a side like that so easily. no matter how hellbent the twins are on seeing you cry, you won't give them that satisfaction.
so it stuns you (and even them) when, on your fifteenth birthday, you're introduced to your betrothed: azul ashengrotto. you don't remember this character from the novel, and you have no idea if he's safe or not. you do know that your eighteenth birthday is the fated banquet and it's then when the plot really takes off, whether for good or bad you can't say yet. for the first time since you woke up in this world, you feel tears dampen your cheeks at the sight of azul.
is it possible to avoid the ending with the twins entirely if you pursue azul? this isn't anything like the novel anymore. maybe it's possible. you're relieved and scared, but you're determined.
and the twins don't like that azul's the one who can make you soften and cry like this.

rugby!james when you come to his game all dolled up and in his team colours and the entire team is drooling over you. so he picks you up and gets your legs around his waist and kisses you with tongue in front of all of them (he probably puts his big hands on your butt too. just to be safe)
today is multiverse monday! send me any au you can think of :)
--
"Well you're a fan!" You hear an amused voice to your left, and you glance up from where you'd been texting with James about your post-game meetup. It's another one of his teammates, Prewett by the looks of it, but there's two of them on the team and you're not sure which one you're talking to.
"Ah," You glance sheepishly down at your jersey and colored socks, matching face paint striped over your cheeks, "Yes, I am. I was-"
"Who's jersey you got on you, love?" He elbows the man next to him, Longbottom, "Betcha it's mine, right?"
"No way," Frank grins lazily, sweat beading at his hairline, "Mine, for sure. Y'see me make that pass earlier? Bet you want an autograph."
"Uh," You flounder, fingers tightening around your phone as you feel it buzzing with new responses. You don't want to be rude and ignore James's teammates, but you don't want to ignore him, either. "Actually," You whip your head around, looking for the familiar mop of curls that you tangle your fingers in, "I was looking for-"
"Me," Sirius drawls, amusement flickering in his eyes, "Right Y/N?"
You laugh lightly at your boyfriend's best friend's antics, nodding and playing along, "Oh, yeah. I've been looking for you all over, darling."
"Oh, my love," Sirius gushes, holding the back of his hand to your cheek and swooning, "My heart ached for you through the whole match. It was like I lost a part of my soul for every second I labored on the field without you."
Prewett and Longbottom are rightly confused now. Sirius is gay. And hooking up with Remus. Loudly. In the locker rooms.
Thankfully, Sirius's dramatics have given James enough time to run from the locker rooms, hellbent on finding you in case you'd come into trouble. His last six messages have gone unanswered, but the knot of panic in his chest loosens when he sees Sirius clutching at your arms.
He jogs over, hair bouncing with every step, "Oi! Black! Get off m'girlfriend!"
"She's all yours," Sirius scoffs at his best friend's protectiveness, dropping his grip on your biceps and glancing at his fellow platers, "C'mon mates. Y'don't wanna see what he's like when he gets his hands on her."
"So she's-?" Prewett makes the mistake of watching James hug you, the man's large hands flying straight to your ass, "They're together?"
"Aggressively so," Sirius drawls, nose wrinkling as he watches James kiss you far more boldly than is polite in public, tongue visibly lapping into your mouth, "Oh god, alright, let's go. Christ, at least I close the shower curtain when Remus and I fuck."

Aid for Palestine
It's been a hot minute since I put one of these together but since uh
checks notes
Israel seems hellbent on committing a genocide live on social media and propogandaing the hell out of it this felt important. I have cobbled some of these orgs and charity functions from bluesky and the site formerly known as tw*tter, you've probably seen some of them around! But some of the bsky things I wanted to be sure made it over. Anyway.
Cease Fire Today :: if you are an American and you're short on cash for donations, this site has other options (emailing, calling, where protests are happening, etc.). It's all pretty simple to use. Figure out what you have the means to do and get to it.
Jewish Voice for Peace :: Jewish anti-Zionist organization advocating for a free Palestine. They have a good FAQ to hit back on some of the regular questions/concerns that are rooted in propoganda about this war.
Al Jazeera :: I cannot say there's a better source for the truth of what's going on than Al Jazeera compared to a lot of American outlets. They're the state media of Qatar but also, look at what we're working with here.
United Palestinian Appeal :: UPA does a lot of work in Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan and Lebanon, and in Gaza. Healthcare, infrastructure, education, and outreach. 98% of their funds go to programs.
Anera :: Anera's a relief organization who's been helping people in Palestine, Lebanon, and Jordan get emergency relief since 1968. At present they're trying to get food and hygiene kits into Gaza.
Tumblr media
Palestine Children's Relief Fund :: Free medical care to ill and injured children lacking access locally. I do not think I need to say more.
Islamic Relief USA :: Organization that provides aid to help rebuild communities after a disaster, war, and also funds to help lift communities out of poverty. Currently fundraising for medical kits and food and water.
Baitulmaal :: Organization that specializes in emergency aid, poverty relief, and community development.
Medical Aid for Palestine :: Organization to provide medical aid for Palestinians, providing locally-led healthcare.
Prints for Palestine :: Art Auction going on until November 3rd to raise money for Medical Aid for Palestine. Take a look! Make a bid! Or buy something.
Games for Gaza :: 256 DRM-Free games itch.io bundle to raise money for Medical Aid for Palestine. Also has a few soundtracks, a couple of books, and some assets!
E-Sims for Gaza :: I think I also saw a tumblr post about this, but I'm linking to the live tweet thread because the op is keeping up to date on when cards run out/are restocked so folks can watch it if they have a twitter account.

When you're contracted by rich and powerful noble you're promised a swell of riches. In return, you must find and bring back a rare treasure that holds power beyond anything you know. Countless crews have attempted to find it, only to either end up dead or lost.
Now, it's your turn to collect your crew and bring your ship to the sea. You'll go up against not only dangerous mythological creatures of the sea but other ruthless pirates determined to find the treasure before you.
As you travel through the world of Sikara, you'll find that there's an even bigger mystery afoot. Will it all be worth it?
Tumblr media
Customize your pirate captain from identity, your nickname, pronouns, gender which changes the story, appearance, personality.
Decide what kind of pirate captain you are: are you a bloodthirsty pirate hellbent on destruction? Or a merciful captain paving a new path? Do you treat your crew with kindness or hostility? Are you relaxed or a dictator?
Customize your ship: name your ship, choose the look, the features and enchantments. Will it help you during your sea battles?
Stop at different locations: will you raid like a typical pirate or help the locals? Will you steal treasure?
Customize your crew and decide who joins you on your journey. And who walks the plank.
Romance a slew of characters that include your ruthless rival, a merperson, a stowaway, the person who contracted you, and your best friend.
Play a character-driven narrative that is both on land and in sea. Discover what Sikara has to offer.
Tumblr media
Captain Morgan 'Deadeye' Price [m or f]: Morgan is the bloodthirsty captain of the Lady Triton. They also happen to be your biggest rival, seeing as they're the child of the pirates that killed your mother. Morgan is bloodthirsty, unforgiving, cold and arrogant, and is determined to find the treasure. Part of you thinks they care less about the coin and more about beating you....and eventually killing you.
𓊝 enemies to lovers, rivals
Anton/Antonia St. Marteen [m or f]: The nobleman/woman who contracted you. They insisted on joining you on your travels, determined to see the treasure for themself. You don't know much about them other than the fact that they are stinking rich, which is all you need to know. Unfortunately, being on the sea with them means you're their unofficial bodyguard.
𓊝 bodyguard romance (MC is the bodyguard), forbidden, opposites attract (noble and pirate)
Castor Morgana [m or f]: the stowaway that hid in your ship alongside their sister, Ruth. Majority of your crew wants them thrown overboard, though a few think Castor can be helpful to the cause. It's up to you to make the final choice.
Gaelin 'Straightlace' Haval [m or f]: your best friend, second-in-command, and advisor. Gaelin is levelheaded, logical, serious, and deals little with emotion. They also seem to be the only one who cares little of pirate culture. They just want the mission done.
𓊝 best friends to lovers, opposites attract (possibly)
Sage/Soren of The Sea [m or f]: a mermaid/merman who, in a series of events, ends up on your ship. It's lucky that they grow legs off-sea, but no matter how human they look, they treat you as an enemy. Pirates and merpeople don't mix, and Sage/Soren is determined to keep a distance, even if the world of humans interests them so. They don't trust you, not with all the blood that's been spilled from both sides.
𓊝 romance with merperson, forbidden, doomed romance
Ruth Underwood [non-RO]: Castor's younger half- sister. She seems to have taken a liking to you, following you around like a puppy. How you deal with her is up to you.
+ and more!
Development of Depths Asunder will fluctuate based on my free time. I hope you like it and join me on this voyage :)

gortash being into tav isn’t something I expected nor expected to enjoy
Oh, come on, you're telling me you never thought about it? Not even once?
The man watches you obsessively throughout the entire game-- before you even have a clue who he is. He sees this raggedy group of adventurers enter Minthara's quarters and there's this uncanny vibe of 'Oh dear, here comes trouble' that he can't shake off. After shit goes sideways at the goblin camp, it definitely has his attention.
Banites respect power. They respect intelligence. They respect strength and ambition. After the death of Ketheric, it's pretty obvious whomever is spearheading this little rag-tag group of assholes hellbent on ruining his precious plans has it in spades-- or at the very least raw strength, which is respectable in and of itself.
By felling Ketheric, you actually did him a favor. Banites do not share power, and they especially do not share it with mopey, miserable old men. He needed that man dead one way or another, and you've granted him a boon. The positive qualities definitely warrant a closer look, but that alone is quite helpful. It looks like this 'Tav' is on a straight-shot path to Baldur's Gate, so he'll wait and watch.
And that's precisely what he does.
Driven by the hell-hot fires of ambition, Tav cuts a bloody swath through the sword coast. Against all odds, they find their way to his city, standing on his doorstep, determined and unafraid. Ready to rend his magnificent head from his shoulders.
It takes cunning. It takes balls. Sure, he could have them killed, but what if--
What if he didn't?
He was planning on ruling this cesspit alone but... what if he didn't have to?
The only relationships he's had in his life were with foolish little idiots that he was puppeteering. It's arguable that he's never truly felt for anyone in his life. He's always been the strongest, smartest one in any room he's ever stood in. He's never had a match.
But this Tav-- This Tav seems different. They're clever, they're strong, they take what they want. They don't let anything stand in their way. They'd make a formidable enemy, but... why make them an enemy? What if they didn't have to be?
They have all the qualities that befit a ruler-- all of the qualities that befit a Banite. Perhaps they're a bit too kind or soft hearted or good or whatever banal matters of morality plague the populace these days, but they have promise. They have potential, and he'd see it blossom.
And what better place to groom them than at his side?
Two heads are better than one. They could truly have something great. Perhaps this is his reward for his loyalty. Perhaps Bane has found him a match--
He'd see the possibilities explored.
And you're saying you've never thought about it? Come now. You should. You really should.

"Darlin deserved to be a villain" "Freelancer deserved to be a villain"
You know who deserved to be a villain??
Lovely. Lovely deserved to be a villain. And the fact that they weren't should be appreciated by everyone.
Why?
Because Lovely could've very easily turned into Quinn. Like so easily that it's a little scary.
Seriously, think about it. Lovely had a lot of issues after Adam and the inversion and all of it was because of Vincent. If at any point they had decided that Vincent wasn't shit and they deserved better than whatever insanity this man would bring, we would've gotten a second Quinn.
Someone bitter and angry at how loving one person fucked up their entire life. Someone hellbent on making sure he could never hurt anyone else the way he hurt them. Someone who kept others out of Vincent's hurricane by making sure they never stepped in it at all. Through manipulation or murder, that's up to you.
"But that doesn't sound like Lovely! They're too sweet for that! They'd never turn out that way even if they did turn evil." And? Quinn's entire reasoning for going after Darlin was because they betrayed him. I'm not saying he wasn't a garbage person but I am saying characters have done worse for less.
Lovely deserved to be hurt. To be angry. To leave in a violent storm and pay back the world for what it did to them in a shower of blood and broken promises. And I have no doubt they would've.
But they didn't. Because Lovely is trusting, forgiving, a little naive for the situation they're in, and completely in love.
If Lovely was a little more attentive to their circumstances or a little less in love with Vincent, they'd see that this relationship has brought just as much trauma as pleasure and that going forward with it will destroy them.
Then see above.
Lovely deserved to be a villain. Hell, I'm willing to believe they should've been. But they weren't. And nobody seems to see it.
(Now don't let the entire post of me dunking on him fool you, I love Vincent, he's the first Redacted character I listened to. But like...facts are facts)

"Coach.... I think we should quit it with the shakes for a while... I can't get my shirt down!"
I muttered, feeling every ounce of the 40 lbs I'd gained in just 2 months. I could feel the thick, pastelike protein shake churning in my belly, a dull roaring heat gradually oozing from my core, out to my chest, shoulders, waist, legs, and arms. The raw, itching tingle of energy, fuel pumping into my sore muscles up into taut, stretched masses. Despite wanting to play lacrosse, and maybe look good enough to get a date finally, I'd made a mistake when I asked Coach for help.
I should have known better as I watched nearly all the incoming freshman boys suddenly grow into grunting, sweating behemoths. The Dorms I'd been assigned to just 3 months ago, meant for incoming Science and Math Majors, now resembled a Frathouse. With heaving, lumbering nerds slowly losing interest in Planets and Chemicals, as they packed themselves solid in the cafeteria and snacked all throughout the day. All of us were bulking up pretty fast, and it wouldn't have been so bad, if I was unaware like the rest of the dorm!
Despite my protest, Coach slapped my back, causing an enormous belch to erupt from me. I groaned, my calloused hand going to my gut as I suddenly felt as if I were starving, what little room that belch had opened, now amplified into an insatiable hunger. Coach smirked at me, pushing one of his snack bars into my hand. I tried so hard to shake my head, to deny caloric nuke in my hand, but I found myself opening the wrapper with my teeth, biting into it and closing my eyes as the feeling of hunger subsided. Clach chuckled, putting his hand on my taut, boulder-like shoulder.
"No can do, you know the rules! All coach’s boys need their required nutrition. Don't you want to be the best? You said you wanted this, didn't you?" He said with a sneer, looking my hefty, thick-piled bulk up and down before giving my half-melon sized pec a soft punch, feeling the solid muscle under the layer of fat all of Coach's boys seemed to develop.
By the end of the year, not a single Jock in school was less than 200 lbs. The school had to cut some funding from the Science Department to cover the near mountain of new clothes, specifically shirts and shoes, as none of us fit into our original gear. I for one, ended up an XXL, lumbering around the halls and the gym at a whopping 220lbs. The entire school seemed to reek of athlete, classes with more than 2 jocks, often had some students complaining about the funk, while the girls, and gay guys tried to hide their arousal. My shoes, which consisted of sneakers and cleats, were all now size 14s, with not a single pair in the school less than a 13w.
I tried at first to get used to the size, the weight, the routine of workouts, meals, barely any time for assignments, as the school and Coach seemed hellbent on ensuring the Sports Budget was going to good use. All of us were forced to play a sport, the teams now full of grunting, sweating, aggressive young bulls hopped up on redbulls and creatine. For me, I ended up playing Football. I wanted to play Lacrosse, but coach said I had the genes for some real size, and vetoed my choice. He says by the time he's through with me, I'll be the biggest Biology major in the school. He says its what's best for me but I know why he's doing it. Because I haven't broken down like the others. I still kept my mind, and as long as I have that, the sweat, the meals, the snacks, and the grueling workouts will continue. Coach never fails, some of the sponsors say while they're eyeing us all up and down like priced bulls on a ranch.
I don't know what happens after graduation, but I'm pretty sure Weston Ridgeway, an eccentric foreign millionaire who bankrolls the Football team, has his eye on me. Coach says Ridgeway tends to like his "interns" Big, Dumb, and insatiable... I don't know how long before I fit all 3. I'm already big, and my backpack is full of shakes and snack bars proves I'm insatiable... Coach says he's got 3 years to, as he puts it, "Raise me up good and proper"

How does Chara feel about seeing Flowey? And the realization that it’s Asriel. How do they feel knowing that their plan caused Asriel to become like this. A twisted mirror version of them that’s come to hate monsters where they hated humanity. How do they feel about it.
Guilt. So, so much guilt. From both of them, actually. Asriel idolizes Chara and being Flowey, he still thinks it was his fault that their plan failed (why'd he wimp out? He should've just killed those humans. Idiot). Chara thinks it's their fault for even doing said plan in the first place (foolish foolish foolish I've killed us both).
Now, when Chara woke up after Frisk fell down, it was after dying together with their brother. They likely felt Asriel die. Asriel likely felt Chara die. And suddenly they're reunited, both undead one way or another. And they didn't even know.
The pacifist route wasn't just an epic underground adventure -- It was terrifying to witness firsthand how these monsters were attempting to take Frisk's soul. But didn't they wish for this, like once they wished for Asriel? For monsters to kill humans? Point is, Chara already got these Complicated Feelings long before they even thought of Flowey being Asriel.
But at the same time, the pacifist route was also a healing journey. It was undeniable that they got through it together as a team. Chara felt like they redeemed themselves, somehow, by guiding Frisk who's hellbent in sparing every single monster that tried to kill them. They could find it in them to forgive humans. To give humanity a chance. And by extension -- themselves.
Yet what happened with Asriel can't be undone......... Sikeee. When they discover the truth in True Lab, Chara went through what I'd call the Emotion Tornado. Good ol' guilt is back, horror, denial,...relief, hope? By the time, Chara is already familiar with the 'monsters are now the twisted image of who I had wanted them to be' thing and have partly made peace with what had happened. And the last part's going around in the form of a golden flower.

How fitting is it that your first meeting with the brothers could have been described as a knight in shining armor? At any other point it would have been them as the saviors, but when you’re caught off guard, you tend to be left in a pinch.
Which is where four particular brothers found themselves when a duo of jellyfish mutants crashed what should have been a regular, totally normal picnic. They should’ve been in their A-Game, a battle that was supposed to be a walk in the park, until a barrage of electric tentacles whipped them all straight on their ass.
“ C’mon, we save the world and this is the thanks we get! ”
Groaned the brother in blue, rocking on the ground as he held the stinging of his abdomen tightly.
“ Do you believe in white flags? ”
Whimpered the brother in orange as he waved a little white flag with eyes shut tight in pain.
The fishy duo scoffed, going on about some mess about mutants league that was hellbent on blaming these four for their plights as “ humans whose lives were ruined ”, before pulling back what would have been a mean hit seizing their victory!
Emphasis on “ would ”, because just as the exhausted four accepted defeat, a knight appeared on the scene with a battle cry and a swinging bag!
“ AAAAAH!! ”
You yelled in panic, swatting the tendrils away with a wimpy squeak each time contact singed your bag. Your shaking legs and chattering teeth were ignored as the battle came to a standstill, both sides simply gawking as a metaphorical tumbleweed passed by. You sucked in an inhale, gritting your teeth and tightening your grip as you glared down the duo.
“ UH—UM! WELL… Stop! ”
You jabbed your finger in their direction then shooing them away.
“ Oh? ”
One of the villainous brothers cooed, taking a step forward as he recovered from the surprise.
“ You’re meddling in matters you don’t quite get, so do us all a favor and SCRAM! ”
Electricity jolted menacingly as he thrusted a tentacle towards you. You prepared to swing that mighty bag of yours once more before a flash of red apparated before you, blocking the attack altogether. The boys behind you all jumped to their feet, shrugging off their fatigue and assuming positions with a newfound strength.
The largest one, clad in red, turned to flash you a toothy grin and a thanks, but all you could do was stare wide-eyed. There was one sentence hanging on your tongue, slipping out without even a chance of censorship.
“ Marry me. ”
He turned to fight back the villainous jellies, only to trip and faceplants instantly, turning to you with a bewildered, flustered look?!
“ Say what now!? ”
Obviously, as every other encounter ends, the brothers reigned supreme over the mutant jellyfish brothers, but you became a constant in their everyday lives. By the grace of the gods or by misfortune, you would somehow always end up appearing where a villain was. Be it out of breath, as though you seeked danger out, or by surprise as you stepped out of whatever little shop you turned up at, there was something the brothers could always count on, and it was you.
Or well, your little quips.
See, they were almost as bad as Leo’s, if not for the charming execution and your charismatic nature. No matter how bad the scenes got, once everyone pulled through, they could all count on you breaking the silence with a snarky, completely out of breath,
“ That was—hah, haaaah— one, phew, that was a doozy! Why don’t we just get married and out this all behind us? ”
Followed by a little thumbs up as you laid flat on the aftermath debris. Collective groans escaped the team, followed by Leo shouting, “ Donnie! Did you get that one? ” You couldn’t help but laugh, exhaustedly hoisting your aching body up to see the purple projection tallying up just how many times you’d ended a fight with a similar comment.
“ That makes the 57th time you’ve said this, Y/N. Do I hear the wedding bells already? ”
Leo grinned, cross-legged with his head planted against his hand.
“ Oh hush. ”
But, it didn’t end there. No, your behavior peeked its head even in the smallest inconveniences or the most normal of interactions. Each brother had been exposed to your proposals, and they all had different reactions to them.
For Mikey, it’s a given that the first incident was food related. A weary you had stumbled down into the lair, wilting at the kitchen table as you basked in what might have been a perfect reenactment of that scene in Ratatouille. With your head in your arms, laid against the table, you hummed to the menagerie of cardamom and chili powder, of parsley and an aromatic blend of diced onions, carrots, and greens.
It wasn’t long before the brother noticed your company and chuckled, stirring his craft as its smell wafted you into a waltz, dipping you through the heartwarming tastes.
“ Don’t worry, I’ll make you a bowl that’ll get you right on your feet, Y/N. ”
While you had simply groaned in response, your pep had returned just as you got a bite of whatever masterpiece this artist crafted. As it melted on your tongue, enlivening your whole being, you stared starry-eyed at the brother and purred your usual quip.
“ Oh Mikey, why don’t we just get married so I can experience this for the rest of my life! ”
Albeit flustered, Mikey simply shook his head and laughed.
“ That’s probably the best compliment my cookings ever had! Maybe I’ll just hire you as my taste tester? ”
“ Please!! ”
After a while, Mikey would eventually let you lend a hand in the kitchen, too. Soon, your homecooked meals were sought after by friends and family, all taken aback by how you managed to create amazing dishes so suddenly???
Now, for Raph, he hadn’t gotten used to these quips, and sometimes you weren’t actually kidding! I mean, how could you not? He was like those folks in fairytales, always there to protect you, to lend a listening hear and a helping hand! He might’ve been the first to hear your little proposals and affection, but boy he was the farthest from being normal about it. Especially with how starry-eyed you would gaze at him while saying it!
“ Y/N! ”
You perked at your name being called, turning to see yourself as the unlucky target of some sort of machinery’s attack. As it unhinged its metallic jaws, lunging at you to chomp, its body was shattered under the force of a fist, glittering red with invigorating magic.
“ Are you okay? ”
He asked, peering down at your frame with such an air of heroism that you melted into a smile.
“ I love how heroic you are. ”
For a moment, he completely forgot of the other little mousers closing in with clanging jaws. Everything flooded back just as quickly as it left, with his gaze snapping back to the threat as he guarded you.
“ Y/N, ya really gotta stop flustering me like that! Raph doesn’t, doesn’t—he doesn’t know how to, ah—. ”
He shakes his head, stumbling over his words before lunging to strike. You were amazed by his strength, if not for the sudden realization of their multiplying once being struck.
“Ah, Wait, hey—hey, Raph? Raph?! RAPH!! I think they’ve been—they’re, THEY’RE MULTIPLYING LIKE THE SILVERFISH, RAPH STOP HITTING THEM! ”
You squealed, trying to get his attention as you batted a mouser away with your trusty bag! He was heroic, strong, but sometimes a ditz. Not like that made you love him any less!
Now, for Leo it always seemed like he was with it. Sometimes you couldn’t even tell if he was joking! He was quick to pick up your habits.
The first time it happened, you were the one to be dumbfounded. None of the other brothers would allow it, but he let you go on patrols with him. Perhaps he just needed an ear to talk off, or maybe it was because you were a magnet for danger? Whatever the reason, he let you tag along, and you were overjoyed.
Atop a roof’s edge you sat, swinging your legs while gazing across the cityscape with an eye almost as watchful as his.
“ Aahh, the nighttime is so serene, once you tune out the bustling noise. ”
You laid back, eyes closed as you inhaled the lunar air. The rustling beside you indicated he followed suit, laying back. Peeking at him with one eye, you purred a snide remark.
“ Say, shouldn’t you be focusing instead of relaxing? ”
“ Me? Focus? Not when you’re chilling so comfortably beside me. ”
You both have a breathy little chuckle, gazing at the stars and basking in the tranquility of the night. It wasn’t as though every night brought with it threat. In fact, most patrols were spent this same way—relaxing somewhere in each other’s time, wasting away the hours until it was “ throw in the towel ” time. As the city sounds drowned into the background, you gave an exhale and opened your mouth to speak.
“Aaahh, how delightful it would be to stay like this forever. ”
“ Yeah, maybe we should just marry the night together? ”
You could hear the grin in his voice, reaching over to shove him playfully.
“ Pft, copycat! Marrying is my thing. ”
“ Oh really? Then maybe you should marry me, I’m obviously the most wed-able brother. ”
“ Is that a word? ”
You gave a scrutinizing gaze, tinged with a goofy grin as he shrugged and declared “ it is now ! ”
Now, he had even thrown them at you a few times in combat, like say for instance, when he caught you in his arms after a hefty opponent had unceremoniously swatted you away from the battlefield. Even you were caught off guard in the moment, clinging to the turtle’s chest while trying to catch your breath.
“ You know what they call this hold? ”
He adjusted his grip on you, emphasizing the position of you draped in his arms, but you were much too out of it to catch yourself from the spider’s web trap he laid for you.
“ Wh-what? ”
The smirk on his face reeled you in, but not before you could interrupt him with a “ hey, wait! “
“ Bridal style. Ah, are those wedding bells I hear? Hurry, my bride, rush to the ceremony! ”
He laughed, placing you down and shoving you towards an exit, implicitly saying, “ it’s too dangerous, get out of here. “
For the last brother, Donnie, it always seemed like he was going to ban you altogether. The heavy sigh that crawled out of him each time you made a quip was enough to momentarily question whether or not you were getting too ahead of yourself. Were you playing too much? Should you rein it in a little? If it weren’t for the split-second smirks, you would have long since dropped your displays of affection with him.
And, after a while, he started to play along with your charades as Leo did—albeit only in the comfort of their own home.
Initially he held his tongue and ignored your comments, and you had trouble reading him. Was he genuinely annoyed? The brothers would tell you otherwise, say that he thought it was funny in his own way, they’d tell you not to worry, but how could you ignore it when he would roll his eyes? Growl? Seem completely annoyed by your antics?
It wasn’t until he experienced your chivalrous protector nature that he started responding differently to your affection. In the fight against Shredder, they knew they were all on their own against this threat. No one in their right mind would stand up for any of them, not to this demon!
So, when his battleshell was demolished by one swipe of the demon, he prepared himself for the final blow, comically waving a white flag, before a shadow was casted over him and a signature bag was swung like a torch at a monster.
“ GET AWAY, B-BACK UP, LEAVE HIM ALONE!! ”
Your signature scream had brought him back to his senses as he watched your trembling frame try pathetically to swat away the threat. Aside from April, you may have been the only human who would try foolishly to protect any of the brothers from an enemy infinitely stronger than you, and he couldn’t help but respect that.
So, he had taken it upon himself to put a bit more energy into humoring you.
Dramatically leaning into Donnie, hand across your forehead and your other hand reached for the heavens, you mewled playfully.
“ Oh, dearest Donnie, even if the gods were to be against you, I would be your knight! ”
With a giggle, you let him grab your hand, spinning and dipping you.
“ And pray tell, beloved Y/N, how dost thou intend to protect one who hast more power than thou? ”
His brothers groaned from the couch, more than accustomed to the strange dynamic cultivated between you both.
“ Tell, I will, with all my strength I’ll fend off the threats with my trusty sword! ”
You held up your bag with a determined expression. Laughter filled the room before you both joined the couch for movie night.
Well, Donnie sat normally.
You gave a battle cry and leapt onto them. It was an understatement to say you fit comfortably into this family’s puzzle like a long-lost piece.
