pining & desperately waiting | javier peña
take the weight off his shoulders - chapter two
Tumblr media

Chapter Warnings | Mutual pining, slow burn, sexual tension, flirting, mention of smoking and drinking alcohol, mention of drugs, drug deaths and the drug trade, explicit smut - masturbation (F)
Pairing | dbf!Javier Peña x F!Reader
Word Count | 3.2k
Authors Note | When I tell you I love this (specific) man, I am telling you I love him. He consumes me. You dream of him every night for a week after that night at the bar. They’re filthy, depraved sometimes, and you always wake up, slick pooling between your thighs, fingers working furiously before your alarm goes off to try a satiate you, or at least tide you over until you can climb back into bed that night and really take your time to imagine all the ways Javier would take you apart with his fingers, with his mouth, with his….
“Are you even listening to me?”
You want to answer honestly and say no, you were busy daydreaming about getting railed by your dad’s buddy, but when you look across the table and see your boss practically glaring at you, you realise it’s probably for the best to lie a little.
“Sorry,” You mumble, picking up your pen, “Didn’t sleep well, what were you saying?”
“The fundraiser tomorrow,” She speaks, “For Dylan’s foundation, would you be okay to cover it?”
You nod, because it makes sense for it to be you. Dylan had overdosed just over a year ago – seemingly on top of things, doing well in school and incredibly bright, found slouched over on a street corner, dead from an overdose before he’d been able to leave the small town for whatever bright lights he was destined for. He was just one of a string of drug-related deaths over the past twelve months – an ‘epidemic’ as they had coined it – the town too close to Mexico to escape the trade that Javier himself had worked so hard to quell. Dylan’s parent’s had set up a small foundation after his death, hoping to help other young kids who could be lured into this stuff to have other opportunities in their lives.
“What kinda thing are you thinking?” You ask, starting to jot down notes as she speaks.
“Just some reaction from people there, why they’ve decided to come out and support, maybe try and grab one of his parents, just the usual really, and we can run a story in the following days, might help drum up some more support for them if nothing else.”
You nod, doing your usual with your notes of underlining the important parts, making notes on the kind of questions you’ll ask when you speak to people, “How many words have I got to work with?”
“I think we can give them a page,” She says, looking to her boss who nods in agreement, “So whatever you produced for last month’s story, that should be good.”
You nod, making a note of that too, and then continue to zone out for the rest of the meeting as everyone talks amongst themselves, mind going right back to Javi and what he would feel like putting his weight on you, settling between your thighs. You really needed to get a grip.
Tumblr media
“Oh, isn’t it so nice to see such a good turn out today?” Your mom gushes, looking around at what feels like the whole of Laredo milling about a number of stalls that are selling all sorts of different things.
“Sure is good to see,” Your dad agrees, putting his hands on your shoulders to give them a squeeze, “You want us to leave you to your reporting, pumpkin?”
The nickname makes you wince a little, a moniker from your early days, before you’d filled out into your body. It was cute, but at twenty-five years of age, you do sometimes wish he’d find something else to call you.
“I shouldn’t be too long,” You turn around and smile at him, “I can come and find you in a little while.”
You wander around, introducing yourself to a few people asking them questions and jotting down notes. You’ve just finished speaking to Martina, famous throughout town for owning her own candle business, about why she’s supporting the foundation, when you step back and feel two sturdy hands holding onto your waist. You’re about to turn around and slap whoever it is for touching you, when that deep voice hits your ears.
“Careful, querida,” Javier fucking Peña, “Almost stood on my foot.”
You whip around, mainly to put a bit of distance between the two of you, because it felt like his lips had been inches from your ear. He drops one of his hands, but keeps the other ghosting at your side, maybe to keep you steady more than anything as you wobble from the speed at which you’ve turned around.
“Maybe you shouldn’t stand too close then?” You offer, making sure it comes out more playful than anything, because actually, all you really want is for his body to press against you more often.
“Fair point,” He shrugs, “Thought I recognized you so I wanted to say hi,” He finally lets that other hand drop from your waist, “So hi.” Is... Is he nervous?
You chuckle a little, “Hi,” you respond simply with a smile, “I didn’t expect to see you here,” You say honestly, this wasn’t his kind of scene before, you can’t imagine it’s any more appealing to him now, “Didn’t think it was your kind of scene.”
He rubs a hand nervously over the back of his neck, “It’s not, I’ve been made to come,” He nods his head behind him where Chucho is talking to a group of other ranchers, “Apparently I’ve got to start showing my face more.”
“Well, it’s a nice face,” your mouth speaks before your brain can catch up with what it’s saying, you inwardly cringe when you realise what you’ve said, “I mean, I’m sure people are happy to see you around.” Is all you can think to say to try and get him to forget the weird compliment.
He seems to smile, but like it had been across the table almost two weeks ago, his smile seems forced, “Just wish I could skip the bullshit about everyone being proud of me.”
“But it’s true,” You shrug, moving away from the stall with him so other people can in front of you to look, “You did really good things out there.”
He scoffs now, shaking his head a little, “You shouldn’t believe everything you read in the newspapers, querida,” He speaks, “Surely you should know that more than anyone.”
You don’t know what he’s actually trying to say, but you decide to play it light, “Are you accusing me of lying in my stories, Peña?” You say with a smirk.
“Perhaps not you,” He offers, “But I know plenty of journalists who know how to twist a story to get what they want,” He looks down at his shoes, kicking at the gravel a little, “Just don’t want you thinking I’m something I’m not.”
“Been gone a long time,” You muse, “You might have to spend some time reminding me who you are.”
It’s flirting the lines of maybe being too much you think, but you’ve not said anything that’s not true. He has been gone a long time, and if what he’s said is anything to go by, he will have to remind you of who he is or show you how he’s changed.
“Not sure you’d like who I am now very much, querida.” He says simply.
You’re about to open your mouth to respond, tell him you’re pretty sure that wouldn’t be true and that there isn’t a thing he could do on this earth that would make you think he was a bad person, but before you can, Chucho is coming up behind him, a firm hand on his shoulder.
“Ah, mija,” He smiles at you, “You here alone?”
“Hey Chucho,” You greet with a smile, “Mom and dad are around somewhere, I’m just here working on a story.” You hold up your notepad and pen.
“Let’s see if we can’t find them, huh Javi?” Chucho muses to his son, “Get you a nice cold lemonade for when you’re finished?” He motions to the blazing sun and then back to you.
“Sounds lovely, thank you,” You motion over their shoulder to where Dylan’s parents are stood, “I just need to speak to them, and I’ll come and find you.”
Javi doesn’t say goodbye, just follows closely behind Chucho as they disappear into the crowds, leaving you to wander over to Dylan’s parents. They’re not strangers to the paper, your boss had written a story with them not long after Dylan’s funeral, trying to spread awareness as to just how deep the drug problem ran in town. The Laredo Morning Times had always been supportive to them, so you didn’t feel the same anxiety you normally did when gathering information for stories, cold calling or knocking on doors trying to introduce yourself before doors are swiftly shut in your face or phones are hung up with a ‘no comment’.
They’re warm with you as you speak to them, thanking you for coming, thanking the paper for agreeing to cover the event, they even smile, which for a pair who lost their only son in such a horrible way still shocks you for some reason. Their loss hasn’t defined them, only made them stronger, made them determined to stop their pain from happening to anyone else. You make a note to write something equally as poetic in your article.
The crowds are thinning out a little as the midday sun does its worst. You can feel beads of sweat gathering behind our knees and you curse the fact you hadn’t remembered your hat. You can feel the heat prickling your skin as you spot your parents, sitting on a picnic bench with Javi and Chucho sat opposite them. When you’re close enough to the table, you can see everyone has plastic cups full of lemonade, but there’s one, put in front of the spare spot on the bench next to Javi, that is pink in colour instead of the cloudy yellow of everyone else’s.
“You get everything you need?” Your dad asks, as you try and fight your legs over the bench in the most graceful way possible.
“Yeah,” You nod, “Think it’ll make a great piece, Dylan’s parents seem really positive about it all,” You pick up the cup and take a sip, pink lemonade, your favourite, “Thanks for this.” You nod in the direction of your dad.
“Don’t thank me, Javi got these,” He smiles, “Remembered you preferred pink lemonade and everything.”
It actually makes your heart swell in your chest. He was always thoughtful, even before he left. Observant almost to a fault. But even after all these years, all of his stress, everything he’s seen, he still knows you well enough to know you prefer the sweeter pink lemonade. You turn your head to him to find him already looking at you with a little smile on his face.
“Thank you.” You say quietly, sipping through the straw.
“You’re welcome, dulzura.”
Tumblr media
Javier Peña is doing a piss poor job of staying away from you, even by his standards. He lasted less than a week before he was waltzing over to you, hands on your waist, buying you pink lemonade because he knows you prefer it. There hasn’t been a night where he hasn’t wrapped his fist around his cock and made himself cum over the thought of you. He finds it easier to drop off to sleep once he’s done it, but his nights are still fitful, full of nightmares, tossing and turning, waking up to sweat soaked sheets and a heaving chest. He wonders briefly, when he lies awake watching the dawn arrive through his curtains, whether your body next to him would ease his nightmares? But then he thinks what if it doesn’t. What if you have to wake up, look at him with those innocent doe eyes and see him for what he really is?  No, he can’t let his darkness cloud you, you don’t deserve that, you deserve someone that going to be gentle with you, someone softer, not him with all his jagged edges.
He's currently sitting in his truck, just outside of the liquor store, contemplating how badly he wants that packet of cigarettes and the bottle of whiskey he’d driven out to buy. He’d done alright so far, chewing on his Nicorette gum, but his fingers are itching for the familiarity of a cigarette between his fingers, and he’d finished the bottle of whiskey last night.
Then, almost like he’s being punished by God, which would make sense really, all things considered, you’re in his eyeline, walking down the street with a woman who is a little older than you, with your notepad and pen clutched in your hand. It’s late and he wonders where you must be going to report at such a late hour, and then he worries, because in his experience, nothing good happens after dark that worth making the newspapers. As the two of you approach him, he leans further out of his open window, holding his arm out to catch your attention.
“Hey Javi,” You smile, coming to a stop in front of his window, “What are you doing in town?”
“Just picking a few things up,” He answers simply, because this isn’t about him, he needs to know where you’re going, “Where are you going this late?”
You turn to the older woman you’re with, tell her to go on ahead and you’ll catch her up, “There’s been some kind of drugs bust a few streets over,” You explain, “Sounds like it might be quite big so we’re just going down to see what’s happening.”
“Your dad working it?” He asks, because if he is, he knows you’ll be okay.
You shake your head, “Nah, he’s not on nights right now,” You’re shifting back and forth on your feet, clearly itching to get going, “I’ll be alright though, sounds like plenty of dad’s officers are down there.”
He turns his head back to the steering wheel and then back to you, “Be careful, alright?”
You smile at him again and if he’s not careful, he really could get used to being the person who draws that from you more often, “I know what I’m doing,” You chuckle slightly, and he doesn’t doubt it, not really, “Been covering this kinda shit for a while.”
Without really thinking about it, he leans over, roots around in the glovebox and pulls out the little card he knows that’s in there. He passes it over to you, letting you take it, “It’s got my number on it,” He explains, “I’ve been in this shit and I just…” He trails off with a sigh, “Just, call me before you write something that might get you in trouble, okay?”
“Worried about me, Peña?” You smirk, and he thinks above your smile, he’d like to make you smirk more too.
“I’ve just seen too many good journalists write things that ruin their careers,” He shrugs, trying to play it off but probably doing a terrible job of it, “Don’t want you to make the same mistake.”
He watches as you turn the card over in your fingers a few times, before smiling at him one last time, “I’ll call you if need you.” And he really hopes you do.
In that moment, he gives up on trying to resist the call of the liquor store, pulling out his keys from the ignition and opening his door, climbing down onto the pavement. He stalls a little, before he puts a hand on your shoulder and gives it a squeeze, “Go and get your story, reporter.” And then motions his head for you to go.
He buys a bottle of whiskey and two packs of cigarettes, smokes two of them before he gets home. He thinks if he were a stronger man he’d have managed to quit, but he’s not, especially when it comes to you. Sure, he knew you before, but this new you? He’s known less than a month and he’s already struggling to stick to his own rules. He steps down from his truck back on the ranch, walks in and pours himself a healthy double, trying to convince himself it’ll be okay, he just needs to keep to himself, but when he’s led in bed at night, thinking of your sweet smile, he thinks this might just be another thing he fails at.
Tumblr media
It’s late. Too late for you to be awake when you have to be at the office in the morning, but you can’t stop looking at the series of numbers, printed on the little card, underneath the words ‘Javier Peña, DEA.’ It’s out of date, clearly, the DEA nothing more than a memory to him. But it’s the principle of it that matters most. He’s worried about you, and he would only worry if he cared right?
You set it on your nightstand, switch off the little lamp and plunge yourself into darkness, right at the same time as you plunge your hand under your sleep shorts and through your folds. You’re soaked, because you always are when you think about him, it’s actually sort of pathetic. You sink two fingers into yourself, only briefly, letting out a satisfied breath, dragging your slick fingers back you to slowly circle your clit.
It's new, the way you always need to take care of yourself. The brief relationship you’d had in college with James hadn’t given you much to work with, you hadn’t really felt desperation to get yourself off like this before.
Your other hand, currently running over your peaked nipples through your tank top, is itching to reach across to your nightstand, pick up the phone and dial that number. You want to breathe down the phone at him, tell him you’re being so bad, that you need him to help, need that deep voice to guide you through it. As you press your fingers harder into your clit, speeding up your circles and bucking your hips, you wonder what he’d actually do if you did call him. Would he tell you to get lost? You don’t think he would, you think he’d do exactly as you asked, talk you through it.
You imagine his voice in your ear, telling you how good you’re being for him. You imagine his hand replacing your own, sinking his fingers into you, using his thumb to work your clit, the rough of his moustache running over the skin of your neck as he kisses you there. It’s the image of him looking down at you, smiling as he makes you cum that tips you over the edge. That flood of relief that rushes through you as you bite down on your bottom lip to keep you from whispering his name as your body shakes through your orgasm.
You wipe your slick fingers on the skin of your thigh, roll over in bed so your back is to the phone, trying to get your breathing under control. You drag the covers up under your chin, closing your eyes and trying to sleep without imagining his strong arm around your waist, his broad chest against your back. Does he snore? You wonder as you try and fall asleep. Would he keep you warm? It’s all running through your head as you sleep, conjuring up dreams that come morning have you realizing something has to give, you have to know, you have to have him. You needed Javier Peña more than the air you breathe, no matter how bad it was to admit that, no matter what it meant, no matter what it would cost, you needed him and you think to yourself as you drive to work, that he might just need you as much as you need him.

I Physically Can’t Get This Idea Out of My Head
How many people actually know Lin got her scars from Su ? I was rewatching the Zafou episodes and I don’t think Lin ever explicitly mentioned Su giving her the scars. So none of the krew knows. So I get why her anger doesn’t look justified to them and why they would pressure her to make up without that context. But I so badly want them to discover it. I want to see their reactions . I want them to see photos of Lin before she was scarred. How would their perceptions of Su and Lin change ? Would they be more empathetic towards Lin ?
Additionally I don’t think Su’s kids know the truth. Opal really loves her aunt I imagine she would be quite angry if she found out and while Lin’s bond with her nephews isn’t explored in the show ( which it should’ve been I want to see her play power disk with Wei and Wing, and praise Huan’s art and have a heart to heart with Baatar) I think they’re also attached to her and would be upset.
Further how about the air kids, Lin seems quite close to them and they’re all very curious. They’ve probably asked her several times before. Did she lie to them to protect her sister ? Does she give up and tell the truth one day ?
How about Kya, Bumi and Izumi ? Were any of them actually there when it all went down ? Did she tell them ? ( I don’t think she would it seems painful for her to talk about ) How would they react to the truth thirty years later?
Also I think Toph has the capacity for empathy. I think she’s ignorant to the full extent of Lin’s injury and that’s why she was so apathetic about it and just wants to move on. She’s blind. She never saw the bandages or saw how deep the scars ran, how large they were but if she did would she have acted differently? I think so. Sure she’s neglectful but she’s not a monster. If she actually felt the scars I think she would’ve comforted her daughter. She would’ve been more mad at Su. In her eyes Lin has a little scratch and Su was an accomplice in a crime. So if course she thinks Lin is overreacting. In her eyes sending Su away for being an accomplice is a crime is proportional to the harm done. She thinks Lin’s anger is just her being a square and normal sibling bickering. If she knew the whole truth maybe she would’ve punished Su more and made her make it up to Lin somehow.
( does she even know that Lin has a scar afterwards? Does anyone mention them in front of her ?)
and Lin would never let anyone touch her scars ever so how is Toph supposed to understand? How can she without feeling them ?
More thoughts about Toph: Raising both of the girls while being blind must’ve been difficult. Think about it she can’t see if their clothes get stained, can’t see if they have a bruise or see if they’re crying. So much of communication and understanding is nonverbal. She misses out on so many social cues and so much visual information. On top of being blind both her and Lin dislike physical affection. So all they really have left is verbal communication and both of them are too emotionally stunted and prone to bottling things up to ever say what they need to. Let’s be honest Toph isn’t a great listener either so she probably doesn’t fully realize/respond to what Lin is trying to say. Lin may be better at writing out or drawing her emotions but Toph wouldn’t be able to read what she wrote or see her visual work. Lin would have to learn braille and sit down and write in it to get her mother to understand which I honestly don’t believe she has the patience or desire to do. Nor do I believe Toph has the patience or desire to sit down and read all of that. ( Does Toph know braille ?) They can’t communicate with each other properly. There are so many barriers. Of course their relationship is strained. While it may not be wholly Toph’s fault it has produced a huge impact on both of her daughters that none of them can address.
An epiphany : LIN IS A SILENT CRIER. She doesn’t sob. Are you following me? Rewatch the Zafou episode if you don’t believe me . Nonverbal - audio communication ( I don’t know if there’s an actual word for this) doesn’t happen between them. Lin isn’t vocally expressive. She doesn’t cry out loud or scream or make any other vocalizations when she is in physical or emotional pain. She may grunt in some of the fight scenes but she isn’t loud. Think about when she got her bending taken. Probably one of the most physically and emotionally painful moments of her entire life. In that scene she didn’t make a single sound. Or the reverse she got her bending restored a huge moment of relief she didn’t laugh or make any other sounds of joy. She just thanked Korra. Lin is silent . Toph can’t hear her.
In conclusion communication is everything and everyone of them needs therapy.

K-Pop Spotlight: Stray Kids
A crime of passion has been committed, and Stray Kids is on the case—143, that is. Whodunnit, you ask? We caught up with the group ahead of the release of their latest mini-album, MAXIDENT, to chat about matters of the heart, their sold-out UNVEIL shows, and producing music on the road. And if you’ve ever wondered what a movie night with Stray Kids would be like, we’ve got you covered there, too. Check out our full interview below!
Tell us about your new mini-album MAXIDENT and your experiences writing and composing music while on tour.
Bang Chan: Like the title of the album, Stray Kids have come across a case that they’ve never encountered before. A MAXIDENT has occurred with the birth of Stray Kids’ first love title song! Writing tracks and demos while on tour has always been fun. Different sceneries and environments definitely help out with the inspiration for new projects.
HAN: This new album showcases the growth of the more mature sides of Stray Kids. Being able to visit and experience so many different places while on tour has definitely brought us many inspirations for projects.
Each of you performed so many individual songs and covers (i.e., ‘Streetlight,’ ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit,’ ‘Youngblood’) throughout your tour—which were your favorites to perform?
Lee Know: I had a lot of fun singing and dancing to J.Y. Park’s ‘Honey.’
Seungmin: My most memorable moment was when I sang Justin Bieber’s ‘Off My Face’! I was so happy that I was able to sing for fans with a live band. I also sang a lot of other Justin Bieber songs, and especially because these are songs I love, I was happy to sing.
Give us your TMI! Share one out-of-the-ordinary thing you did this week that no one else knows.
Changbin: I had an arm-wrestling fight with the members, and I was the final winner. As expected—I am powerful!
I.N: I bought konjac black bean noodles!
Congratulations on your UNVEIL 11 shows at KSPO! What were your expectations going into the concerts, and how did they compare to the real thing?
Hyunjin: It felt like a dream to perform at the KSPO Dome. I didn’t expect so many STAY to come, but thanks to the many STAY who came, I had so much fun performing.
Felix: Not only was it a goal but also a gift from STAY, who came to watch our concert at the KSPO Dome. The KSPO Dome was filled with a lot of STAY, making it not only memorable but enjoyable to see fans. We were able to ride on new carts to see STAY on the second floor, which was also memorable.
I.N: I was looking forward to performing so much, but the actual concert exceeded my expectations. I had tons of fun. I felt so, so proud to see the happiness in STAY’s eyes; this made me vow to myself that I will make STAY even happier in the future.
We’ve seen a lot of heart imagery during this comeback, from the music video to the album art. Can you tell us a little about that choice and what those hearts represent?
Bang Chan: Having love is a concept that is a MAXIDENT to us; we thought using hearts in a hectic turn of events was essential. “Love” might be a word that has a lovely and warm image, but to make it suit the Stray Kids color, we mixed things around to match the mood that we were aiming for.
Changbin: The reason why we use heart imagery is that this album contains our first love-themed title track. Also, the heart monsters that appear in the music video will spark STAY’s curiosity!
A crime has been committed, and you’re on the case—which of your members are on the hunt, and who committed the crime?
HAN: I think the suspect would be I.N because he is so lovable. The thoughtful ones of the group, Hyunjin, and Seungmin, will be the ones on the hunt.
Seungmin: The suspect is Lee Know, and I will be the one in charge of going after him and examining the site!!!!!
Lightning round! You’re hosting a movie night for STAYs. What’s your snack of choice, your favorite pajamas, and the movie you’re watching?
Lee Know: I want to watch a scary movie together. Without a doubt, the snack will be popcorn—caramel flavored. I want to wear the pajamas that I always wear.
Hyunjin: A sweet romance movie, popcorn and soda, and cute pajamas.
Felix: While watching The Avengers, I hope everyone wears pajamas with long sleeves and eat caramel butter popcorn!
Want more of Stray Kids? Check out their new mini-album MAXIDENT and music video for ‘Case 143’ here.

ONE OF THEM [PART 4]
-> Dating your best friend Eddie Munson might have been pictured differently in your head. Despite a blissful weekend, you’re met with a few bumps in the road; and, your friends slowly figure out that what you're doing in private crosses the boundaries between friend and lover.
-> eddie munson x you (she/her)
-> friends to lovers, secret relationship, angst
-> warnings - strong language and suggestive scenes [no smut]
[Part 4] [Part 5 - Coming Soon]
This is a sequel to One of the Boys
-> <-
“Do you think he has plans for that asparagus, or does he just need a friend?” Eddie’s head is tilted just to the right, while he studies the man across the aisles.
You plop five plump potato’s into a plastic sack provided by the grocery store, and hum a soft tune to yourself. Ignoring Eddie, you take the sack and drop it down onto the metal scale to imagine the price point.
When you move, however, Eddie is frozen in time. His eyes move past the displays of fresh lemons and limes, and over the apples and pears. A man is scratching his finger over the Saran Wrap tucking a set of asparagus in a tight film. Peering through Coke bottle glasses, he pouts his bottom lip and then puts the produce back.
“You’ve been watching him for a while?” You try to sound less irritated than you are. Shopping with Eddie got easier once you asked him to push the cart. In a way, this tethered him to you because he kept his hands busy and off of the shelves where he insisted on touching everything.
Eddie doesn’t mean any harm, after all he is just looking. Suppose he looks for a bit too long and he’s a bit distracted, then you’ll correct him with a sour sort of come on, Eddie,’ like his uncle Wayne does sometimes. But, his uncle never buys fresh potatoes. Eddie has got no idea what you’ll do with those. When you told him you wanted to make dinner for him tonight, he thought the box of mashed potatoes was fine enough and the steaks in the back of the freezer had only been there a few months - or a year. Who can tell the difference?
You surely can.
When you suggested that he come with you to go to the grocery store, he saw the glee on your face. He can’t say no to you.
There’s something soft about the way you’re touching everything on purpose. You studied those potatoes like the man did with his asparagus, but when you got a little pouty, Eddie’s heart fluttered in his chest.
You’ve got one hand on the cart, so to him you feel connected even if you’re not holding onto each other. Guiding him in the right direction down the isle, he'll never get lost as long as you're there with him.
Eddie is damn near snoozing by the end of the laundry list of grocery items. There is only six, but that's six too many. You offer to buy him something sweet in exchange for his patience with you.
“Did you want to go to the little bakery? They’ve probably got chocolate cake or cookies,” you wiggle at the end of the cart.
Eddie straightens his back at this.
“Sure, but no chocolate,” he shakes his head. “I don’t like that stuff.”
“You don’t like chocolate,” you’re more taken aback than he imagined you might be. “But, what about the chocolate cake I made you for your birthday two years ago, and the cupcakes I made for your birthday this year! You said they were the best. I even kept the recipe!”
“Sweetheart,” he catches up to you, so he can wrap an arm around your shoulders. “How could I possibly tell you that I didn’t like chocolate when you’d spend all day baking for me? Hm? I really did appreciate the gesture. You know- among the thick layers of goo- oof!”
You’ve elbowed him in the side. Rightfully so! Smiling into the case of donuts, you make a beeline for the grinning worker behind the counter.
“Can I get a loaf of- erm, that one,” you’re not sure how to pronounce the name.
Eddie’s gone when you spin around with your bread loaf. Eyeing the treats, he aims for a small cherry pie. He pulls his hand back and shakes his head. Your boyfriend flicks his hair behind his ears because as much as he likes his hair, he does get hot sometimes. Boyfriend.
Eddie Munson is your boyfriend.
Have you said that out loud yet?
“The bread,” you announce like he’s memorized dinner plans.
Eddie shocks you, “steak next, right?”
Aisles of produce pass you by like time ticking on a clock. You’ve gotten everything on your list by now that Eddie clutches in your hand. Time wastes on because you don’t want to go home quite yet. You’re in control of the cart, and Eddie’s bounding between aisles to show you something ‘cool’ he’s found.
The cart slowly is taken over by snacks you haven’t planned to spend money on, but you do anyway because Eddie’s joy means more to you than a dollar.
Eddie pops a rope candy in his mouth, while you organize the cashier belt in line.
“Don’t forget the bags,” Eddie pulls some plastic bags from the bottom of the cart that you keep in your house. You reuse them as long as possible, and Eddie finds this endearing.
“Thanks,” you put them in the front of the groceries already stacked on the belt.
Eddie tosses a wrapped piece of chocolate onto the belt you hadn’t seen him grab from the shelves.
“I thought of you,” he taps the wrapper, before the belt sweeps the sweet away. “It’s got caramel. Your favorite, right?”
"It is," you sigh completely defeated that he knows more about you than you about him.
"My favorite is cherry," he swings the licorice in the air.
“Sir,” the cashier’s lips thin. “You’re paying for that, right?”
Eddie’s chewed through the whole package of candy by now, and humorously he’d like to imply that he’s not. But with you in mind, he hands the woman the wrapper without fuss. You wrap onto his arm like a child, and he places another kiss to the top of your head.
You’re paying for the grocery run today, but Eddie promises that the next time you’re shopping together that he will pay. The conversation floats past your ears because you’re just thrilled there will come a next time.
The van is waiting for you in the parking lot, where Eddie tosses you the keys to unlock the doors. He’s busy rummaging through the back trying not to rattle his band equipment, but he does use the inside of the drums to steady the dozen eggs.
“Are you buckled?” Eddie climbs into the drivers side.
You’re set in the passenger seat with the chocolate that Eddie bought for you. Using his thumb, he swipes at your chin where you’ve smeared melted chocolate on by accident.
“I’m buckled,” you tighten the seatbelt. “Do you want a bite?”
“No, but could you hand me the hamburger back there?”
You scrunch your nose. “How long has that been there?”
“Eh.. like a couple days?”
“Eddie!”
Laughter fills the corners of the van like a harmonious song. Well tuned - perfectly pitched.

Eddie is an awful cook.
Finding your attention drawn onto the sharp knife in your hand, slicing potatoes into chunks, you’re not watching Eddie scrambling behind you. He’s got two spoons in his hands, but he scratches his head at what for. It isn’t until you’re gasping at the blackened smoke coming from the stove.
Flipping the carrots around in the pan, Eddie’s apologizing over and over. You reassure that the carrots still could be edible, but judging by the blackened bottoms, you both know well-enough to toss them.
You’re putting the potatoes into the hot water, only burning the tips of your fingers.
Eddie’s in control - er, sort of - cutting up new carrots. Following along what you did earlier, you bite your tongue at the massive pinches of black pepper and salt he’s added. Tablespoon or teaspoon? He’s got no clue!
“I’ll keep an eye out this time,” he holds a staring contest with the searing hot pan that’s still a bit too hot for the carrots.
You turn the burner down, and flick the carrots around until the smoke clears. Eddie groans, and takes over because he doesn’t like being micromanaged. It’s all in good fun, though. He does find being in the kitchen with you quite homey.
Homey.
Eddie’s never had that feeling before. Last time he’s felt at home, no offense to Wayne, was when his mom found him hidden in the cupboards of their little house. Sure, life wasn’t perfect for the Munsons, but his mom always kept the court dates and the legal shit out of his eye the best she could.
When she died, a part of Eddie had too. He misses the warm hugs and kisses, the way she lets him lick the spoon when she makes cookies from the tube.
But, alas, if his life was perfect then he wouldn’t be here with you. Eddie finds himself feeling pretty perfect anyway because you’re there. You’re humming a tune to yourself, as you twist the timer to twenty minutes. Old and barely alive, the timer clicks on like a mighty oak.
“Twenty minutes until the potatoes are done,” you swirl around to Eddie. He knows the sigh coming from your mouth is less about the exhaustion from cooking, as it is dealing with him in the kitchen. “What should we do while we wait?”
Eddie places his hands on your cheeks, and brings you into his chest. Chest to chest. Heart to heart. Beating rhythms of your hearts pump between you two. You’ve got your ear to his breast imagining what’s dancing around in there.
Unintentionally, Eddie flicks the backing of your bra. A flame ignites inside you. Did he notice? Did he mean too?
Are you even prepared if the night falls that way?
You’re a bundle of nerves knowing that when that moment drops, and the both of you find yourself even closer than you are now that nothing could be the same. Going back isn’t an option. Swirling stars cloud your vision, as your breathing slows.
Eddie hums when your grip on his back loosens. He sways with you, while you’re drifting farther into your head.
Skies of warm orange and cotton candy coated pinks cloud your eye. Touching a garden of soft spring flowers. Ridges of the stone bridge. A kiss is pressed onto your forehead like a dew drop, raising you from your state of hypnosis.
“You still with me?” Eddie’s voice vibrates through your ears.
“Hm,” you hum. “Should we sit down?”
Eddie guides you to the couch where you’ll stay drifting into your own world with a blanket draped over your lap. You attempt to join him in the kitchen when the timer goes off, but Eddie raises his index finger and says,
“Don’t you dare.”
Then, your boyfriend wrestles with the oven to get the roast from it’s hot cage and plops too much butter into the mash. He winces when he puts the spoon to his lip, and tries to fend off your worry by telling you that the food is just hot.
Eddie sits next to you with two plates of food - one in each hand. He waits a moment for you to sit back up after sinking into the aged sofa, then lands the warm plate in your lap.
You’ve got no idea what you’re watching on the television, but right beside you is all the entertainment you need. Laughing heartily at Eddie’s cross expression, he sticks out his tongue at the well-done carrots.
“Don’t eat them,” he reaches for a glass of water. “They’re really awful.”
You nibble at the end of a carrot, and suck down your outward terror at how salty the vegetable is.
“It’s not that bad.”
They are indeed that bad.
Worse - even.
“You’re cute, but a terrible liar,” he pinches your shoulder.

what’s the lore about voodoo 👀
@agentidiot 1993-5 was…wild.
The origin of the album, according to Charlie:
“We spent three months there [in Barbados]. Mick and Keith were there first and then I joined them and we just played. So by the time we got into the recording studio, we could play something and you'd go, ‘Oh, I remember that... I did this and that on it.’ You're already a third of a way to getting it together by doing that."
Which all sounds pretty benign, they’ve done albums in a particular place away from the UK pretty much since Exile. But the outtakes from those sessions are downright insane (so much so that I can only mention a handful here, there are many more I didn’t even have room for).
Probably best example of this is a song called “Alteration Boogie.” It’s 5 straight minutes of Keith singing about Charlie’s clothes and his body, which starts out with him making fun of how old fashioned his taste in tailoring is (in a very detailed way) and ends with two comments about Charlie’s ass and a comment about how “cute” he looks in blue.
youtube
Tumblr media
Then there’s “Sparks Will Fly.” That song actually did make it to the album, but in a radically different form than it started out. So Keith wrote it:
“We had a big bonfire going one night out in Ronnie’s garden. I was throwing all these logs on it, and these sparks started flying. I started running backto the studio – ‘I’ve got one! Incoming!’ Charlie was the only guy there, and he and I played the thing. “
And he and Charlie were the only two who worked on it until it was completed:
"Sparks Will Fly was actually eyeball-to-eyeball with Charlie Watts more than anybody to start with, because we would not let anybody else play on it until we'd honed down that rhythm track thing dead right. You know, it was like, three's a crowd for a minute, until we'd worked it out. And then we let everybody else in. It all has to do with the rhythm and the guitar, and after that the rest of it fell into place. Charlie's laying down the law on that one. You've got to know a guy so well to play that tight together. It's unspoken, because it's all going by in front of you in 3 seconds."
The lyrics of that song, especially when you consider the context in which it was written, are somehow maybe even more crazy (and suspicious) than “Alteration Boogie.”
youtube
Tumblr media
Mick ended up completely overhauling the lyrics, but his weren’t any better. Of particular note at the time was his decision to include the line “I’m gonna fuck your sweet ass”, which he claimed after the fact he didn’t even remember doing.
Oh yeah, and Keith’s thing about Charlie “laying down the law” was pretty literal. Charlie was playing him every night during album recording and rehearsals to the point of actually being on his knees, which Keith bragged to the press about.
“According to Don Was [their producer], Charlie was the driving force behind these rehearsals. They started each night around 10 p.m. and finished 10 or 12 hours later, whenever Keith collapsed, but Charlie was still going strong.”
“To me, it was all tied in with Charlie. If Charlie Watts is willing to experiment in the studio, then I’m the happiest man in the world.”
Coincidentally, Keith was also very eager to tell everyone about Mick’s private practice sessions with Charlie (who also bragged himself about his closeness to the drummer in this period and some of the songs they collaborated on):
“The more that Mick plays [the harmonica], the more differently he sings. Suddenly he starts to sing the way he's playing the harp, phrasing differently, instead of thinking of it as two separate entities, you know...And he played all year. He would do 2 hours a day with Charlie just playing harp, before we'd even come into rehearsal or whatever. And I can hear it paying off a lot in his singing too.”
And another one of the songs which made it onto the album, “Suck on The Jugular”, which Keith was dying to credit to Charlie (he literally credits Charlie with the success of every song on this album):
“Mr Watts again. I mean, it's all drums. The arrangement is all to do with the drums. Charlie laid down that beat and I said, 'Well, if you can keep that up for several minutes, we've got a track! 'Hey, no problem? And he always makes it look like it isn't.”
Has these lyrics:
Tumblr media
The fun didn’t stop when they finished the album, though.
They made a music video for the song “I Go Wild” which can only be described as steampunk Marie Antoinette meets geriatric gay BDSM. (Mick is literally in some kind of chain link sex swing for part of it, Keith seems to have a gag in his mouth at point, and they’re both dancing around Charlie. He even goes so far as to bend down in front of the kit and mimic giving oral s*x).
Tumblr media
The band has since disowned the video, it appears on none of their official sites or YouTube channel, but you can find it here.
In the interviews which surrounded the actual Voodoo Tour, Keith was very adamant about how close the “trio” were and how much they were enjoying each other’s company:
Tumblr media
“Even when we’re not touring or recording we stay in touch. We’re all so close - like a family. In fact, we’re probably closer than a lot of families are.”
There was a video game released on CD-ROM to support the tour, which includes a section where the player enters a bathroom where Keith makes a variety of sexual comments, screams, and then comments on Charlie “peaking”: here.
A documentary about the album and tour made by MTV has also since been memory holed and only promos for it can be found any longer.
Other than that, I suppose I should mention that this was also the era of Keith kissing Charlie on stage and both of them giving him flowers:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As well as the return of the “nipple pincher” bit:
Tumblr media
But, more than anything, it was truly a period, despite occasional disagreements, of real closeness and sweetness between those three:

hii!! I saw you were taking request (also you are another roman and mickey stan so I love you) and I was wondering if you could write a scenario or headcanons for reader dating poly!ghostface and finding out roman and mickey are ghostface and they are like oh no, but reader is like "let me help"
Thank you, I love you too for requesting poly!romickey.

Roman isn’t as active as Mickey since he’s usually too busy with his actual job and doesn’t quite have the same zeal for it. For the most part, he only targets people he knows and can’t stand or who get in his way somehow.
When you start dating them, he becomes overly cautious. He doesn’t want you to know. He doesn’t even want you to suspect. He’s got a certain image he wants to maintain, especially when it comes to dealing with you.
Mickey doesn’t care too much in the beginning. He figures if you find out and it becomes a problem, he can just take you out in the non-date way (he’s literally crazy, what do you expect?💀)
When he gets more attached to you, he sort of agrees with Roman’s approach. He doesn’t want to have to get rid of you, and keeping you with them would be much easier and more pleasant if you’re staying willingly.🙃
No matter how careful they are, though, you notice things, such as Mickey having small injuries he just shrugs off or makes weird excuses for. "A rogue tree got in my way while filming." A few times, he claims Roman gave them to him. "Don’t let the glasses fool you; It’s a trick. He’s a lot freakier than he lets on." *wink wink*. And news reports about people you know who had worked with Roman, or at least worked at the same studio, going "missing" from time to time.
Questioning Roman too much will lead to him ranting about anything to divert the conversation. "No one’s gone missing from there since the 70's. They’re just trying to ruin the studio’s reputation. You know how many movies they’ve almost shut down this year alone? It’s insane. I’ve got the producers breathing down my neck about everything. I can barely get a music video done without 50 rewrites! Next, The National Enquirer's gonna put out a story about alien abductions happening on set. Those people left because they just couldn’t hack it! Hollywood’s a tough place, y/n. It’s not made for everyone."
Even when you find out the truth and confront him with it, he denies it heatedly. "I’m not some sort of demented killer! The police couldn’t prove—"until you assure him you don’t care. He changes his tone instantly. "You’re okay with this?"
Mickey’s ready to throw a party. They won’t have to sneak around anymore, and maybe now he could talk you into having a different kind of fun in the costumes.
He’s absolutely delighted that you’re not only cool with it but also want to help him.
You start out small (fake bait to lure victims) and then graduate to calls until Roman’s convinced you’re ready to take on a more active role. Mickey jokes that you’ll have to go through the casting couch (he’s only half joking).
Roman lets you use his voice changer, but only very rarely. He keeps it well hidden, and you’ll never find the real one unless he hands it to you personally. You’ll have to make due with the regular model.
You and Mickey still have fun bothering him and just about everyone else with the regular one, though. That phone bill is too damn high.
They have a bunch of extra costumes from Stab 3, so you eventually get your own.
Mickey has a whole stash of weapons, and he’s impressed that you know most of them. He lets you take anything you want when you go out.
Roman’s still not too keen on you joining in on this, though. He masks his concern with irritation, but he really does worry about Mickey sometimes, and now he’s going to be worrying about both of you.
He gets more involved than he’d like to because he wants to keep an eye on you. Plus, he’s a control freak, and he thinks the excuse of watching out for you gives him a free pass to be bossy.
Killing makes them both a bit feral; normally Mickey embraces it and Roman suppresses it. Your presence tips their delicate balance off kilter.
Then, you find out firsthand that some of Mickey’s salacious stories about the "injuries" Roman gave him weren’t as exaggerated as you thought.

re: mating bond like, the concept could be interesting. but s/jm just uses it as a pseudo soulmates thing, and it's supposed to show "true love" but clearly it doesn't work because she never thought it through. it's just really bad writing and a cop out to show that two characters are "meant to be".
the concept of the mating bond is SO interesting. a love chosen by magic and fate itself could mean the importance romance people together has in this world. it could mean that the union of two people together often influences the world in great ways. it could be a promise that, in the end, there will always be a happy ending for you, a reason to keep going.
and then there’s the people fighting against it, who don’t want this despite everything and choose free will over a promise of comfort and safety and bliss. the soulmates trope always has so much potential, but it was done so dirty in acotar. the biggest crime about it is pretty much the way males react to it in comparison to the females. it is almost always the males who have the stronger reaction to it, and it’s often them whose lives and minds are controlled by this thing.
there’s this contradiction in the worldbuilding of how it works — is it about true love? equals? or is it about who produces the best offspring? is it about fitness (as in who produces the best offspring)? why are some people given the chance of love when others are bonded due to the powerful offspring? is love just a side effect of the two having the best offspring?
on another note, the mating bonds could be interesting in other ways too — like how reliance on them too much can cause toxic relationships. if so, that would make sense because kallias and vivienne built up their relationship before (?) finding out they were mates. meanwhile, feysand, nessian, and rhysand’s parents all got into relationships because they were mates. and that could show the differences between bonds that are toxic and bonds that aren’t. though i do believe this derails the whole fate thing; because if the love of written in the stars then the relationship never should’ve become so forced due to the mating bonds.
you’re very right about how little thought seemed to go into the mating bonds overall. i think for me and a lot of other people in this fandom, the reason they found so much issue with it all stems from rhysand’s comment that essentially means mating bonds can stem down to, at their very core, eugenics.
overall, i think the concept turned out very shallow due to the inherently forced nature of how many of the mated relationships came to be. I also think this is why so many people like elriel as a ship.
were it not for the mating bond, rhysand never would’ve done any of the things he did for feyre. their relationship isn’t natural because his motivations stem from a vital piece of information that completely alters the dynamic we’re seeing. i think if we’d known from the start why rhysand behaved the way he did towards feyre in acomaf, a lot more people would be turned off by him.
it’s a bit like how good characters whose morality is a major part of their personality will be seen in a much more critical light when they do something immoral/bad because the bar is higher for them. in comparison, a morally grey/outright evil that does something good will be hailed for it despite all the bad things they’ve done due to the bar just being that low for them. i think there’s actually a term for this theory (i think it’s psychological or something?), but i haven’t found it since i last read about it lol.
there’s also the example of nessian, which in general is a very icky relationship. cassian seems very predatory and possessive of nesta while also verbally abusing her and playing mind games with her. there’s this way he narrates her that makes it really obvious that cassian would never have been interested in her were it not for the fact that the two of them are mates.
it’s just really bad writing and a cop out to show that two characters are “meant to be”
this is THE most important part of what you said, anon. the mating bonds are used as a cop out, and there’s no chemistry or buildup without it. this is especially true for nessian, because there’s this underlying knowledge from the reader that we all pretty much know that nesta and cassian are mates. there’s this lack of suspense or tension in how the relationships are built up, so a lot of readers look at these relationships through rose-colored glasses because mated relationships are simply “perfect” (ugh).

Dragon Ball Minus
Tumblr media
So I’ve been covering the Jaco manga, but there’s one last chapter to go over, and that’s the Dragon Ball Minus feature at the end of the collected edition.  The finale of the Jaco story revealed that Jaco was sent to Earth to intercept a Saiyan invader, which turned out to be baby Goku.  So Jaco was a prequel to Dragon Ball all along, and now Dragon Ball Minus turns the clock back even further to show how and why Goku was sent to Earth in the first place.
So let’s unpack this a bit.  In 1990, Toei produced the TV Special “Dragon Ball Z: A Lonesome, Final Battle – The Father of Z Warrior Son Goku, who Challenged Freeza.”  The English dub shortened this to “Bardock: Father of Goku”.  If you’re not familiar with it, I wrote about it here.  The special was a grim tale of Goku’s father, a brutal, uncaring cog in Frieza’s war machine.  Before he dies, one of Bardock’s enemies curses him by giving him visions of the future. This allows Bardock to see horrifying scenes of Frieza destroying the Saiyan homeworld, as well as the life of his infant son growing up on Earth. By the time Bardock understands what’s happening, it’s already too late.  But as Bardock dies with his homeworld, he takes solace in a vision of his son growing up to confront Frieza someday.
It’s a darker story than most of Dragon Ball.  While DBZ had gotten very violent, it was still pretty clear who the good guys were.  But Bardock was an antihero at best.  I’m pretty sure the only purpose of the psychic powers was to make the character at least a little sympathetic.  By giving him a peek at his own destiny, you can have Bardock confront his own mortality, and share in the audience’s appreciation for his son.  Without those insights, Bardock would just be one Saiyan among many, with nothing to make him stand out besides a familiar haircut and a famous son that he doesn’t even know.
The story goes that the special left such an impression on Akira Toriyama that he decided to canonize Bardock by writing him into the manga.  When Frieza first meets Goku on Namek, Frieza finds Goku’s face somewhat familiar, and he recalls that one Saiyan who opposed him right to the very end.  So even though the Bardock TV Special was anime-only, I think a lot of fans considered it to be canon, since Toriyama had included the scene of Bardock opposing Frieza from the very end of the special.
However, to quote Toriyama himself:
“I really like the story of Bardock, Goku’s father. It’s quite dramatic, and the kind of story ‘I absolutely wouldn’t draw’ if it were me. It was like watching a different kind of Dragon Ball in a good way, so I thought it was nice.”  --Akira Toriyama, Interview on October 5, 1995, published in Daizenshuu v.6.
So he enjoyed the Bardock special, but if he had to create his own story about Bardock and the destruction of Planet Vegeta, then it would be very different from “Father of Goku”, which he “absolutely wouldn’t draw”.  Not because he disliked the special, but because it’s just not the kind of story that he would tell.
I say this because I think there were a lot of fans who took umbrage with Dragon Ball Minus for changing Bardock’s backstory from the lore we got in the special. But Toriyama practically warned us all way back in 1995 that if he ever did a Bardock story of his own, it would almost certainly be very different.
Tumblr media
So now that we’ve established that, let’s get down to business.  In this story, Bardock is killing aliens just like he did in the TV special, only he only seems to have one other Saiyan backing him up.  That unnamed Saiyan gets a call on his scouter, and he relays the message to Bardock: All Saiyans have been ordered to return to Planet Vegeta.  Bardock is immediately suspicious, since this seems to be an unprecedented move.  The Saiyans have been working for Frieza for some time now, and they’ve been spread out, conquering various planets for him.  Why would Frieza recall all of them back home at the same time?  When he sees Frieza’s spaceship in orbit around Planet Vegeta, he gets even more suspicious.
Tumblr media
Frieza’s visiting the planet because he’s had his henchmen talking to the Saiyan locals, asking them about their folklore.  His goons dismiss the tales of the Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan God, but Frieza refuses to overlook even the slightest possibility of a Saiyan growing powerful enough to oppose him.  As it is, he knows the Saiyans are too proud and willful to be truly loyal to him, so he feels justified in wiping them out before they inevitably turn against him.
This... might just be my favorite character moment for Frieza.  A lot of DBZ was devoted to explaining and re-explaining his decision to destroy the Saiyans.  His reasons generally boil down to the following:
1) If the entire Saiyan population revolted, they could pose a threat to his rule (Early Namek Saga, the Bardock TV Special)
2) Frieza’s afraid of a Super Saiyan emerging from the Saiyan population and overthrowing him (Late Namek Saga, and Dragon Ball Minus)
3) Beerus wanted to destroy the Saiyans but was too lazy to make the trip, so he commanded Frieza to do it for him.  (Battle of Gods)
What sets this story apart from the others, though, is that we get to see just how Frieza heard about the Super Saiyan Legend in the first place.  He asked around.  And apparently this isn’t the first planet where he’s done this sort of thing.  “I’m sure they’re just the usual heroic legends we hear about all the time.”
At some point, it hit me that Frieza has an interest in this sort of thing.  Not that he’s particularly fond of alien legends, but the characters in those stories the only thing that can possibly challenge his power.  So he seems to make a point out of learning about those mythical heroes whenever he can, just so he can weigh the risks of the legends coming true.
And maybe if the Saiyans were more devoted to him, like Zarbon and Dodoria, maybe Frieza might have chosen to ignore the Super Saiyan tale.  But he knows the Saiyans hate his guts, and he probably only kept them around as long as he did because his father had gotten so much use out of them.  And he might have been willing to keep the Saiyans alive a while longer, but then you have to factor in Beerus’s command to destroy them.  So in this story, Frieza asks if all the Saiyans are back home yet, and his men report that most of them will return within a month, but they’ll have to wait for stragglers if they plan to get them all.  Frieza won’t do it, though.  He plans to destroy Planet Vegeta one month later, and he can deal with the handful of survivors later.  He can just tell them Planet Vegeta got hit by a meteor.
Tumblr media
The story doesn’t spell it out, but I think Frieza accelerated his plans because he didn’t want to risk angering Beerus.  Not that Beerus was going to show up a month later to check his work, but Frieza had no way of knowing for sure, so better to blow 99% of the Saiyans away as soon as possible.
And this is what saved Saiyans like Vegeta and Raditz.  Well, that, and the fact that Vegeta had no intention of obeying the order to return home.  Maybe he had the same suspicions as Bardock, or he just felt like he should defy Frieza wherever possible.  In this case, he could get away with ignoring the order, so he chose to ignore the order.
Tumblr media
As for Bardock, he finds his wife Gine chopping meat in his home village.  The narration informs us that the Saiyan population is only several thousand strong.  They’re warlike, so their population doesn’t increase too easily.  That sounds kind of vague, but interpret it as you will.  Bardock embraces Gine and asks about their children, which I think rubbed some fans the wrong way.  Gine wasn’t even in the TV Special, so the idea of Bardock being a loving husband and father bugged some people.  Hell, I think some fans can’t stand the idea of Bardock being anything other than a relentless badass.
Gine explains that Raditz has already been sent out into the field, with Prince Vegeta as his partner.  As for Kakarot, he’s been in an incubation tank for three years, and it’s almost time to take him out.  As he looks at Kakarot, Bardock resolves to steal a space pod and send the boy to another planet.
Now, this also bugged some fans, because this directly contradicts what Raditz told Goku about how and why he ended up on Earth.  According to Raditz, Saiyan babies were tested for their combat potential, and those with the worst scores were sent to relatively defenseless planets, where they could either die alone or conquer with a bit less of a disadvantage.  Saiyan elites, like Raditz, Nappa, and Vegeta, were allowed to remain on Planet Vegeta and receive proper training and resources, so that they could fight as part of the Saiyan military.
Dragon Ball Minus flips that idea on its head.  Yes, Raditz was correct about the Saiyan practice of “infiltration babies”, as Gine puts it.  That is a thing Saiyans do with their weakest children.   However, in this case, Bardock is using that practice without permission.  Instead of waiting around for the authorities to decide where to assign baby Kakarot, Bardock is going to send him to Earth, just to keep him safe from anything Frieza might be planning.
Tumblr media
And, perhaps unintentionally, these differences provide a critique of “Father of Goku.”  Like I said earlier, the only real purpose of giving Bardock visions of the future was to make him sympathetic.  He could foresee Frieza’s treachery and realize he was doomed, but he could also foresee his son thriving on Earth, eventually rising up to avenge his people.
But Dragon Ball Minus cuts the Gordian Knot in half with a sword.  Why does Bardock need psychic powers to predict Frieza destroying the Saiyans?  The Saiyans have resented Frieza from the beginning, so why would they expect anything less than treachery from him?  Bardock doesn’t need the gift of prophecy to figure this out.  He just needs to pay attention to what’s going on around him.  And as for his son, maybe Bardock could just care about Kakarot from the beginning. He doesn’t need to see visions of Goku growing up on Earth.  He can just see the baby floating helplessly in an incubator and then imagine what will happen to him if he’s still on Planet Vegeta when Frieza makes his move.
And this might irritate some Bardock fans, but at least this way he gets some agency and character development.   The dirty little secret about “Father of Goku” is that Bardock is a puppet of fate in that special.  The Kanassan is destined to give him the curse of foresight.  And once Bardock has that curse, he’s powerless to prevent Planet Vegeta’s destruction.  He sees Goku’s future, and seems to approve, but he has no control over that either.  Others make the decision to launch Goku into space, and so everything Bardock does in the special is futile.
Sure, “Father of Goku” kind of works because of that futility.  I’d argue that “futility” is a theme of the story. That’s what makes it dark.  But I prefer Toriyama’s take, where Bardock suspects that he’s already doomed, but he still gets to make a choice to do something about it.  By sending Goku to Earth, Bardock gets to make a difference, even if he doesn’t realize how big a difference it will be.
Tumblr media
As they prepare the pod for launch, Gine asks why they don’t just all leave the planet in pods, and Bardock explains that Frieza would just track them down with scouters.  Kakarot, with his miniscule power level, can escape, but they’re trapped here, on Planet Vegeta, while they wait to find out what Frieza has planned for them all.  The two of them say their goodbyes, and Gine makes plans to contact Raditz to tell him where they’ve sent Kakarot.  She also promises to retrieve the boy if Bardock’s fears turn out to be unfounded.  But we know how that will turn out.
So they watch the pod leave in an emotional scene.
Tumblr media
But the launch has not gone unnoticed.  The Galactic King has discovered the Saiyan invader heading toward Earth, so he orders Jaco to intercept it.   He clearly isn’t too concerned about the matter, though, since he regards Jaco as one of his least reliable Patrollers, and the Earth as a backwater planet of little importance.  I guess he sort of cares, but not enough to send the best.
But we already saw how Jaco handled that mission.  He missed Kakarot’s arrival on Earth, and he was adopted by Son Gohan instead, and grew up to become Son Goku, who would confront Frieza on Namek.  And now you know.... the rest of the story.   Paul Harvey... Good Day?
So that wraps up Jaco.  The only real issue I see with all of its retcons to Dragon Ball lore is the fact that Jaco has such close ties to the Brief family, and he even gives Dr. Brief his spaceship to reverse engineer, and yet this never came up in the Namek Saga, when the good guys desperately needed a way to travel through space.   Instead they use Kami’s old spaceship, which took a month to make the trip, and then Dr. Brief reverse engineered Goku’s space pod, which made the journey in six days.  Maybe Jaco’s ship was slower?  Or they just forgot about it?  Oh well.
I’ll be taking a break for a couple weeks, and when I get back, we’ll star in on Dragon Ball Super. Until then, keep watching the skies.

⸻ peter gadiot, 38, cis male, he/him // in the ORCHIRD PARK neighborhood of Covington, you’ll find MATEO MEIJER who’s lived there for SEVENTEEN YEARS and they spend their days working as a DETECTIVE WITH COVINGTON PD and THE OWNER OF THE VAULT RECORD STORE. They’ve been described as PERSEVERING, GENUINE, REACTIVE, and GUARDED by the people that know them. This is his story.
Triggers: child abuse, mental illness, death/suicide
When looking back on where he has come from, Mateo doesn't like to look too deep or with too much intensity. Born and raised until aged 11 in upstate New York his father was an artist and his mother was the same. They were two painters that forged a life together after growing up with him always in pursuit of her. As kids, it had been love at first sight for his father, and his mother came around eventually. It just wasn't until after his mother's best friend had moved away to California and had married a film producer out there.
The early years his childhood was happy and warm. It wasn't until after his mother's best friend had passed away in a horrible accident in California that his mother's mental and emotional state began to decline. She drank too heavily and became abusive, first only verbally then it had become physical as well after nearly two years. Mateo's father had done everything he could to protect him and his older sister from the abuse. The man also sought help for his wife's drinking and declining health. Nothing worked. It all only got worse.
When Mateo was 11 he had walked into the converted carriage house near the main house turned working studio and found his father hanging lifeless. It's a sight that he's never been able to unsee. By the time his father was buried and laid to rest his mother had cleared out his studio and gotten rid of everything. It was only six months later that he and his older sister were taken away by the state. Unfortunately, Mateo and his sister were separated and adopted out to different families with him finding himself in the south. Covington, Georgia.
It took many years and plenty of required therapy for Mateo to come out of the poor state he'd been in. At the start he'd been unable and unwilling to open up or trust anyone despite his new family being absolutely wonderful with him. They were patient and it eventually paid off. Mateo came out of grief and survival mode with an interest and ability with music, a talented guitar player and decent songwriter. There was even a possibility of going off to music school and several times he'd been on the verge of starting a band or recording music. But, ultimately, Mateo knew that wasn't his purpose in life.
What he really needed to do was help people. So, after graduation from high school, he went off to university in Atlanta and studied criminal justice. Mateo's purpose was to become a detective, a lawman, someone that could help those in need. Partly, he wanted to learn the necessary skills for selfish reasons. His sister was out there somewhere and the desire to reconnect with her is strong. There's also the need to uncover the truth about his past and make peace with it. Once he earned his degree he came back home to Covington and became a cop. It didn't take long for him to build a very strong reputation and rise through the ranks to detective.
Many times he has received special accolades and commendations for his outstanding work. Has even been offered promotions, asked to take on a role and title with more responsibility but has always turned it down. Mateo didn't become a cop so that he would be stuck and desk and push around papers, there was no interest in the bureaucracy or business of it all. Being a detective and making a difference where he could has been all that's mattered.
Without a doubt the job is difficult and can be incredibly taxing. In times that he's nearly quit and walked away because the weight on his shoulders was too much, or he'd noticed how he'd picked up his birth mother's drinking habit, Mateo knew that he needed to find another outlet. There had to be somewhere to turn. And that happened to be music. Considering that he didn't make a ton of money but also had little expenses with no family of his own, just a house and a German Shepherd, it was easy to take his savings and buy out The Vault Record Store from it's previous owner.
A couple of years ago Mateo found a young woman badly hurt following what had appeared to be a brutal attack. It was perhaps the wrong move to make but he rushed the woman to the hospital himself knowing he could get her to help fast than it would take emergency vehicles to get to them and then take her in. With her condition critical it was a call he took responsibility for. While in emergency care and waiting on the woman to become stable Mateo had already begun the quest in finding out what had happened to her and who was responsible.
For the six months she was in the hospital in a coma Mateo visited at least once a week. At the urging of staff suggesting he talk to her, he did just that. The news would be read to her, there would be updates on her case or just him talking through what little he had, and he'd apologize for not making any progress. Her case had quickly become the one that took him over. It wasn't easy for the seasoned detective to solve, and even more frustrating that Mateo couldn't seem to find a road to travel down. When she woke he remained close to her, perhaps a little too close, and struggled with the professional boundary line.
Now, at 38, his mother has reached out to him. Sick and with not much time left Mateo's under even more pressure to find out where things went wrong in the past. There's some secrets he knows he has to uncover and most days he's not sure if he wants to. What he has never told anyone, not his therapist when he was adopted or his sister before they were separated, was that he still has the note his father left.

Okay, I had a hell of a detailed dream about Vic and Ethan and it’s been bouncing around my skull all day. So not I’m spreading the brain worm! Mostly cause I think quite a few people in your audience will enjoy it, share the wealth ;)
Alright:
Vic and Ethan doming you, together. It starts slow, with safe words, and a talk about safety, wants, likes and dislikes, because their dominant not cruel. But after a while when everyone is more comfortable, you get to experience a wide range fun.
Vic is very into experimenting, she wants to see how far she can push you hm each and every way, how many times you can cum, how loud she can make you scream, how much you’ll beg for her.
Ethan is still dominant, but he’s much calmer, and stern. Where Victoria wants to push every limit, he keeps her at bay and goes slow, he makes you want more, and his stern tone makes you weak at the knees.
They reward you if you behave, of course. But, when they feel the need to punish you, they have different methods. Vic is more inclined to give you what you want, too much of Im what you want, overstimulating you until you beg for forgiveness. Ethan is more inclined to be quick and physical. He’ll give you a glare and cock his eyebrow and give a warning, and if you continue to disobey, then he’ll spank you. He very rarely uses a paddle or crop, preferring to let you feel his hand, his strength against your buttocks. As benevolent as they can be, if you get punished it’s bette to take it without complaint, they can always combine the ways they like to make you behave.
And a specific scenario, just for fun:
They catch you misbehaving.
You know you aren’t allowed to touch yourself without permission, but they’ve been spending so long at the studio. Of course, it’s just your luck that today is when they come home early. Vic’s hand is pulling yours away from your sex before you can fully register that you’ve been caught. She holds your hands together in front of you, and you can see in their faces that you’ve messed up. Still, even though you’ve disobeyed and they want to punish you, Ethan asks first. He asks if you’re okay with how this is going, and reminds you that you can always tell them to stop.
You’re doing quite fine, and accept their punishment. Ethan steps forward as Vic pops off to the closet, and that bin of sex toys inside that you aren’t allowed to look inside(“It’ll be more fun as a surprise”). Ethan takes your hands and has you stand up, commanding you to strip in a low whisper. Fully naked, you sit in his lap on the edge of the bed. Ethan is behind you with your hands being held by his as Vic comes back with a mischievous smirk and something hidden behind her back.
It’s not immediately obvious that the device is, it’s sleeker and more discreet than what you’ve seen online, but it’s definitely a chastity belt, and it’s got quite a few little locks. Vic hands the keys to Ethan, holding it up to let you see. She describes what the want, even though it’s pretty obvious. Control. Control over your pleasure, even when they’re not home. They give you the opportunity to say no again, but fuck that sounds sexy. They stand you up, and hold you still as Vic starts clicking come locks in place. But she pauses, just to produce a matching dildo you hadn’t notice before. She wants to desperate when they come home to unlock the belt.
They decided to go out just to test it, just to the store down the road to see how you did on your own for a bit. They take their time, and you quickly find that ever step is a blissful hell. You can feel the silos inside you with every movement, but you can’t control it, you can’t touch yourself.
And damn is it amazing when they finally get home to ravish you properly.
Anon I love your mind. This concept is so hot!! You’ve unlocked (pun not intended 😉) so many ideas for me. I want Ethans and Vic to dominate me so fucking bad.

Helios Rising Heroes - Rise on GoldenXXsection
Chapter 5:
Tumblr media
Gast: “GoldenXXsection’s first tour has been announced! Fans rejoice as they perform new songs!”
Gast: It’s become a hot topic, hasn’t it? I’m glad. Homecoming also seems to be well-received.
Asch: Amongst the fans, right?
Asch: LILIAN took all the rest of the public’s attention.
Gast: …………
Tumblr media
Asch: Take a look. A whole fucking day after the festival, and they’re still topping the trending charts.
Asch: Even those who went just to mock them and call it a bad move all said they were “good-looking”.
Asch: ……If you were so confident in your appearances, why didn’t you just show your faces in the first place?
Gast: Wasn’t that part of the plan?
Asch: Aah?
Gast: They chose this method because they were confident, not just in their singing, but their visuals……
Gast: In fact, people in the industry are praising it for deepening its worldview and direction, so the effects have only been positive so far.
Asch: Tsk…. They really do have some kind of skilled producer over there huh?
Gast: …..I wonder……
Gast: Anyways…. Akira?
Gast: Huh, where’d that guy go? He should’ve come here, but……
Asch: He’s over there.
Gast: Eh!?
Tumblr media
Akira: …………🧍
Gast: Oi, Akira, what are you doing in that corner!? That atmosphere like you’re growing mushrooms is so unlike you?
Akira: …..Leave me alone.
Asch: Hmph, this is why you’re just a kid…..
Asch: I told you that rehearsals are part of your job. Pull yourself together.
Gast: I guess what happened yesterday must have come as a big shock….. Well, only fans came to listen to us, after all.
Gast: I thought it was admirable you were still able to give your all under those circumstances. You did a great job—
Asch: The fuck are you saying? Are you implying yesterday was just some kinda bad luck?
Gast: Eh…no, that’s not what I…..?
Asch: Haah, you’re no different to that guy, both still brats.
Asch: No matter how you look at it, that was an act of sabotage. Pulling that kind of stunt specifically on a stage where others would be performing.
Tumblr media
Gast: Sabotage……
Asch: The more I think about it, the more it feels like LILIAN’s got a bone to pick with us. There have been many offers aside from the commercial they’ve stolen from right under our nose.
Asch: It’s annoying……. If you’re gonna start a rivalry, at least compete with us on technical skill—by song and performance.
Gast: That’s some overthinking alright……
Asch: That’s just how this industry is.
Gast: ………….
Tumblr media
Gast: Huh, by the way, what happened to Dino? It’s about time for rehearsals……
Asch: He arrived earlier and had some pizza, but left when the producer called him.
Gast: Eh….did something happen again?
Asch: Beats me. Well, besides LILIAN, there’s a ton of things it could be.
Gast: ……….
Asch: We can rehearse even without Dino. Let’s warm up on our own.
Gast: Y-yeah…..
Tumblr media
Gast: S’pose you’re right. I don’t have as many rehearsal opportunities as everyone else…. I realized that yesterday.
Gast: Recently the number of people going “Gast’s just here for his face” have increased, so I have to prove them wrong.
Asch: …..On social media?
Gast: Mainly, yeah. Though it’s the kinda comment that can sprout up anywhere, right?
Gast: Truthfully, I’m pretty average in terms of singing and dancing, so I don’t take it to heart when they say that.
[door opens and shuts]
Asch: ……You—
[Dino walks over]
Tumblr media
Gast: Oh, Dino! You’re finally here….eh
Dino: …………
Gast: D-did something happen?
Asch: From looks alone it looks like something frustrating again, too.
Gast: You were called by the producer, right? …..Did he say anything?
Dino: …………
Tumblr media
Gast: Dino?
Dino: Actually…about that……
Dino: Next week’s weekly magazine is going to feature an article on a scandal about you, Gast-kun……..

If it's not too much to ask then 24, 27, 35, 39, and 52 for Ichika and Shiho (my favs <3)
Alright I'm going to work through bit by bit
What is their favourite song? For Ichika, it's "Untitled" (Not giving the real name because spoilers) since it signifies them all being reunited, whereas for Shiho it's the song Saki created in No seek No find, since that was the first time they dedicated themselves fully to making something to show what they were about
What's another career they think they'd love? For Ichika, she thinks something like museum guide would be fun, especially if it has to do with her special interests (Miku and music) as it wouldn't be too loud and would be calming. Shiho could only ever conceive being a backstage worker/producer, they always wanted something directly involved with music.
Where have they always wanted to travel? Ichika hasn't got somewhere specific, but the main idea is to go somewhere where they use music differently. Somewhere where it's different culturally or societally intrigues her. Shiho, on the other hand, has got a main place: Nashville, and the USA in general. With so many amazing musicians there in general, he definitely would want to go and listen to them
What was the happiest they ever felt? That's an easy one for both. Ichika has always treasured the moment where Honami joined the group, and 3 became 4, when they all were friends again and it all felt... better. Shiho meanwhile places their first performance with Leo/Need, when they did it fully unprepared and spur of the moment, since that made him realise: They all wanted to get better at music, to perform for others, to help others.
When they wake up in the middle of the night, what do they think of? Ichika has one of two thoughts. Either it's A, a set of new lyrics/music that she has to write down in that moment, or B, rather more angsty, when she is having a nightmare about being left behind, being abandoned again, being left on her own once more. That idea truly scares her, and has led to several unpleasant moments both at night and during the day. Meanwhile Shiho thinks about going pro, and being able to perform her music and his feelings to everyone, and to be able to help others the way they wish they had help in junior high

Best Food to Eat at Changi Village Hawker Centre.
If you find yourself on the east coast of Singapore, or are simply hunting down an area that offers a plethora (and variety) of different types of food, you’ll want to head to the Changi Village area. Not only is the super popular Changi Village Hawker Centre here where you’ll find an array of cuisines for super affordable prices, but there are many other eateries and cafes that are in close proximity, making things super convenient for an expedition of eating!
Tumblr media
From seafood to local favourites, foods from around the world and more!
1. In the mood for seafood?: Tekong Seafood Restaurant
Why is it whenever one is near the ocean, the idea of feasting on seafood sounds so appealing?! This is one of our personal favourites to visit around Changi for whenever our craving hits! Plus, all of their produce is caught fresh, on the daily, by local fisherman.
We recommend their Chili Crab (chef’s kiss), or we’ll usually order the Bamboo Clams in Vermicelli too.
__
Stall number:  #01-03
2. Favourites and the classics from around the world: Jacob’s Cafe
This is one of those dining spots that simply can’t be missed when visiting the centre, especially if you’re feeling a wonderful, homely cooked meal, you know, comfort food!
Their menu, in general, is really extensive, serving breakfast to dinner. There are western favourites, german classics, stews and curries, english-style pies, desserts and even a kids menu. Some of their signatures to try? You can’t go wrong with Oxtail Stew or try their Hainanese Braised Pork Knuckles.
__
Stall number: #01-2049
3. Craving Malaysian food? (Open till 12am on weekends): Wing Kee Original Taste Ipoh Hor Fun
With borders still closed, if you’re used to frequently hopping over to Johor for your fix of Malaysian cuisine you’ll be happy to know there’s a local Malaysian stall inside and they serve up truly authentic dishes.
They’re known for their Ho/Hor Fun (a homely meal made with meat (usually beef or chicken), veggies and chewy flat noodles, but their protein of choice is a delicious, deep-fried crispy and juicy chicken cutlet!
__
Stall number: #01-19
4. Heading to a completely different side of the world: The French Stall
When you think about french cuisine, two of the most popular thoughts are ‘fine-dining’ and ‘fancy’, am I right?
Getting rid of stereotypes, enjoy bistro-style French classics from scallops to onion soup. We recommend checking out their Special 3-Course Sets, including duck and seafood options, which are really affordable and start at $43.
P.s. They’re closed on Mondays.
__
Stall number: #01-2051
5. There’s always a long waiting-line here for a reason…:  International Nasi Lemak
There’s something so more-ish about a good, fragrant coconut rice, and when it comes with a side of crispy fried chicken, it’s a pretty genius combination in my humble opinion.
Nasi Lemak is another dish synonymous with Malaysia, and although you won’t get yours served on a pandan leaf here, it’s still a great pick to get your fix. Theirs is served with a fried egg, sambal and perfectly crisp ikan bilis (white anchovy).
__
Stall number: #01-03
6. The old name for Bangkok city: Pranakorn
Thai food has become one of the most well-known cuisines around the world, especially when it comes to street-food type fare!
Tuck into all of the popular favourites, offered in a variety of proteins from chicken to prawns, they’ve got a long list of items to choose from. From Thai curry to your favourite tom yum, papaya salad, deep fried chicken wings and much, much more!
__
Stall number: #01-2086
7. The perfect snack: Mei Xiang Goreng Pisang (美香炸香蕉)
We’ve got to admit, we never leave Changi without grabbing one, or three,  of these perfectly crisp banana fritters…what we love about them most is that they’re not over-oily either, giving them that satisfying crunch.
This is a great snack to munch on or quick filler in between meals, especially if you’re a fan of sweet and salty snacks/treats!
__
Stall number: #01-51
8. On the hunt for a spot inside the centre with a bit more ambience?: Little Island Brewing Company
You might want to consider this option, as unlike many of the hawker-stall type setups around, there are rows of picnic tables, benches and chairs set up as part of the microbrewery.
Yup, here you’ll find a divine selection of craft beers, as well as a menu with something for everyone, from local classics to international favourites, light bites, seafood and morning. They serve from breakfast through to dinnertime.
FYI. It’s located right beside Tekong Seafood (see #1).
__
Stall number: #01-01/02
9. You might want to consider sharing a meal here..: Woon Woon Pek Beehoon
Just wait until you see how huge their bowls of seafood are here!
They specialise in seafood bee hoon (which refers to white vermicelli noodles), with the options of prawn, sliced fish, scallops and even crayfish bee hoon! Or you can order their Seafood Platter!
__
Stall number: #01-52
10. Oysters for $5!: 坤記 Kun Kee
Straight to the point, Kun Kee specialises in two signature and loved Singaporean dishes in particular; oysters and carrot cake.
You have the option of ordering either black or white carrot cake, which arrives perfectly golden with a generous helping of carrot inside the actual cake, or try their fried oysters or specialty oyster omelettes. Their oysters are fresh, juicy and again, they add a liberal amount of oysters to their omelette.
__
Stall number: #01-47
11. A super popular street food in Singapore: Jason’s Place
Ah, the beloved satay and at Jason’s you’ll find skewered sticks in a variety of different meats and proteins.
Try their Pork Belly satay sticks (pork belly is ideal for grilling, when the fatty bits turn extra crispy and charred), mutton sticks, chicken breasts, satay chicken wings, and even otak-otak (a Southeast Asian fish cake made from ground up fish meat filled with spices and wrapped in banana leaf).
__
Stall number: #01-54
12. The Armyboys favourite: Mei Lin Yin Pin i.e. Commando Jelly
Although the english name was never officially given by the store themselves, most locals refer to this sweet dessert spot as the commando jelly stall.
The do serve red jelly dessert but there’s a story behind it actually, and somewhat of a local secret if you may…Located near Changi Village is an army camp and from way back when till now, whenever the army recruits come to Changi for a bite to eat, they always request the red jelly dessert, hence its name!
__
Stall number: #01-2054
13. Halal desserts and treats: The Finest Tea Shop
Don’t let the name fool you, although they do serve divine teas here, including chai lattes, their speciality lies in delicious sweet baked treats, from cupcakes to meringues.
But if you aren’t in the mood for something sweet, this cafe also sells savoury bites like smoked salmon sarmies, burgers, and more!
__
Stall number: #01-2060
14. There’s a variety of traditional nasi dishes to choose from here: Mizzy Corner
Operating since 1997, you can rest assured this kitchen knows what they’re doing when it comes to creating the perfect nasi lemak or nasi goreng.
They use ultra-fragrant Jasmine rice in all of their dishes and they even offer Nasi Lemak bento sets. And if you’ve arrived with a group of friends, or a big appetite, we recommend ordering the Nasi Ambeng Dulang, which comes with an assortment of side dishes and is ideal for sharing!
__

15. If you’ve arrived earlier in the daytime: Chock Full Of Beans
Or are looking for a weekend breakfast spot, grab a seat at this cutesy cafe, known for its drinks made into adorable characters…even pikachu!
Apart from the (doremon) art lattes and fun foamy friends, there’s some delicious breakfast, brunch and even lunch options. We recommend the Eggs Benedict which is always a winner, or their Seafood Cheesy Omelette with Lobster Bisque!

16. YeeeeHaaaa: des By ASTONS
Best put your cowboy boots on for this one, just kidding, but you may feel transported back to the era of westerns when cowboys still ruled barren lands (this is the theme here after all).
Unsurprisingly they have a heavy focus on meats and proteins, but their true passion lies in steak…so if you love your red meat we’d suggest going with one of their ‘Legendary Steak’ options, like wagyu! There’s also chicken and seafood on the menu too.

17. All ingredients are fresh and homemade: Makan Melaka
Cendol is one of those desserts that can literally be spotted all over Southeast Asia, from Singapore to Brunei, Vietnam to Thailand.
Grab a bowl of the cold dessert, best eaten chilled, with typical green spaghetti jelly rands (made from rice flour) and here its topped with red beans, corn and pieces of durian fruit. Each ingredient is made by hand by the owner, even the palm sugar!
FYI. It’s not as common to add coconut milk to cendol in Singapore and this spot is no different, so be surprised when you see it missing, it’s intentional!

18. Their hor fun is made with bitter gourd: Wong Hing Kitchenette
Surprisingly this is one of the only Chinese restaurants you’ll find inside the centre, and here they focus on Cantonese-style zi char.
Although their menu isn’t extensive, they bring all the homey classics including hor fun (with sliced beef or fish) and other favourites such as Fried Black Pepper rice with salmon and Hong Kong style fried noodles.

Stall number: #01-43
19. Lively and vibey: Hanamco
Not a hawker stall, this is actually a cocktail bar – although they do serve western and fusion-style food on their menu.
Dubbing themselves as a ‘gastrobar’, they’re a popular spot for tourists and locals to grab a seat and watch the latest live sport matches happening globally, so if you’re looking for some peace and quiet, we suggest trying elsewhere.

Stall number: #01-2045  As you can see there’s plenty of options to feast on, and something to suit all cravings. Do arrive with an empty stomach, trust us, you’ll regret it later if not!

Figure Out Your Own Shit
This scene wouldn’t leave my brain. And I have a huge writing boner for characters who care about each other having difficult conversations. Some brief notes on Ramona’s backstory for context. Set in the ROTTMNT universe.
@thelaundrybitch
****************
And there on his lab table, among all the half-finished projects and machine parts, she saw a familiar cover.
“You have my memoir.”
“Read it, too,” Donatello said as he finished soldering a wire into place. He then removed his goggles and swiveled his chair in her direction. “We all have.”
“I figured as much. Mikey and Raph have already unloaded on me everything they've had issue with. Anything you want to get out in the open?”
He regarded her thoughtfully, leaning back in his chair. “It's a very honest book,” he accused.
“It is. That's why it made so many people angry. It made your brothers a little angry, too. We each had a long talk about it.”
She waited for him to gather his thoughts. It was clear he wanted to say something. Usually, Donatello had no trouble putting his thoughts into words. This time, he struggled.
“I didn't know,” he finally said. “All the things you were dealing with at the time. You could have told us.”
She gave him a sad smile. “I didn't want to bring all the garbage down to the lair. You guys were my oasis. My safe haven from creepy producers and controlling, obsessive mothers. From people yelling weird slurs at me on the streets for being a mutant. I needed one place where none of that existed.”
“You should have told us. We would have supported you.” He paused and added. “I would have supported you.”
She raised a brow at him. “Would you have? Because before I left, all you ever did was fight with Leo. Both of you were so insufferable, so obsessed with getting the best of each other. It was miserable to be around the both of you at once. Sometimes I felt like I wasn't even a person to the two of you anymore; I was just some trophy you were trying to win.”
For a microsecond, she saw the hurt in his face before he schooled it. Maybe she was trying to get to that hurt. Trying to goad him into telling her what was really on his mind.
“I know,” Donatello said, his voice a little flat. “I read that in your book, too. You called me obsessive. You said I made you uncomfortable multiple times.”
“You were and you did.”
His voice raised in volume as his irritation finally won out. “Then your responsibility was to tell me. Not publish it years later to be read by hundreds of thousands of people!”
“I did tell you. If you would recall with that perfect memory of yours, I told both of you to knock it off several times. But the two of you are so competitive. It got to the point where it wasn't even about having me, it was about getting a one up on each other. How was all that fighting even worth it? I'm not even that great of a prize.”
Any retort Donatello had planned flew out the window at that last statement. He stared at her as if the thing she said didn't even compute to him. But he quickly recovered.
“I guess I remember things differently. I thought we had something together. I thought you and I were dating. And then Leo came in and screwed it all up. You let him screw it up. I was trying to be there for you. I was trying to be a good boyfriend.”
“I didn't need a boyfriend, Donatello,” she shot back with emotion. “I needed you to be my friend! My world was falling apart and you two were always bickering! There wasn't room for anything else but your petty fights and all your stupid nonsense!”
“Falling in love with you wasn't nonsense. It wasn't to me.”
Her breath caught, her heart skipped. Regret then filled her. “I'm sorry. That was wrong of me to say. I never meant to suggest that your feelings don't matter.”
Donatello clenched a fist in irritation and pressed it to his mouth. “I'm trying really hard not to be mad at you.”
“I can see that. You're doing very well.”
“Don't flatter me.”
She let out a long breath. “Donnie, we were all dumb kids back then. Only sixteen and having no idea how to be good at relationships. How to be good partners. I most definitely wasn't ready for anything like that. I have a feeling it was the same for you.”
Donatello sat in silence. Silence usually meant he agreed. If he disagreed, he let you know about it instantly.
“And what about now?” he then asked, surprising her.
Now it was her turn to gather her words. “I care about you,” she said sincerely. “And I care about Leo. And my answer now is the same as it was then: I will not ever put myself between you two. You're brothers. You are two sides of the same coin. You need each other; more than either of you will ever need me.”
“Ramona...”
“You know, when I left New York I thought things would be different if I ever saw you again. I don't know how they would be different, but they should have been different somehow. Instead, it's like you two just hibernated down here the entire time.
“Six years, Donatello. It's been six years. Your brothers have traveled the country, walked in the sun, met all sorts of people. If you weren't going to leave the city, I thought you'd at least try to meet people here. Date a little. A cute yokai, maybe? Even someone human. So then by the time I came back we wouldn't be right back to square one again.”
“Wait,” Donatello said. “You purposefully left for so long so I would give up on you and find someone else?”
That question made her angry. Probably because he was right.
Instead of admitting as such, she said, “You know what, Don? Figure out your own shit. When you've done that, you can come back and ask me where you and I stand.”
With that, she turned and walked out of the lab. “The same for you too, Leo,” she said as she passed the other turtle who had been lurking by the entrance way.
“What? How did you know I was there?” Leonardo demanded.
Mona did not give him an answer as she left.
“She didn't really know,” Leonardo insisted as he sauntered into the lab. “It was just a good guess. I'm very sneaky.”
He found his brother slumped in his chair, rubbing his temples as if he had a headache coming on.
“What do you want, 'Nardo?” Donatello asked tiredly.
Leonardo had his usual Cheshire grin in place, looking like he was about to say something snarky and obnoxious. But he changed his mind and sobered.
“I ruined everything? Is that what you believe?”
Donatello looked up, clearly annoyed. “That's not just my opinion, that's what you did. We were just fine until you had to say something.”
“What was I supposed to do, Don? Not tell her how I felt?”
“Yes, Leonardo!” he suddenly burst out as he stood. “That was what you were supposed to do! Be a good brother for once and keep your mouth shut! Why wouldn't you let her go? You could have had anybody!”
Leonardo blinked at him, surprised at the outburst, but Donatello wasn't finished.
“People like you, Leo. People gravitate toward you. You make friends easily. They like being around you. People don't like me. People don't get me. The only ones outside our brotherhood who ever tried to understand me were April and her. And you wanted to take that away.”
“I didn't want to take anything from you, Donnie. I just...” He paused. Sighed. Maybe that was a lie. Maybe he had been a horrible brother back then. “Do you hate me?”
Donatello deflated before his eyes and plopped back into his chair. “No, I don't hate you. Maybe I did once. Not anymore. Not after Raph left, then Mikey. All I had was you.” And when it was just the two of them down in the sewer for those few years, something changed. They had learned how to orbit each other without Raphael's mothering, without Michelangelo's peace-keeping. It had been a trial by fire at first, stuck with each other, but they had come out the other side different than when they went in. Mona was wrong. They had changed.
Leonardo put his hands on his hips thoughtfully. “Then I guess there's only one thing we can do now. We've got to figure out our shit.”
Donatello groaned and put his head in his hands. “I don't want to.”
Leonardo  laughed.
