Okay I do get your point that Schitt’s Creek is a rip-off of Arrested Development but personally I’m a fan of both shows and find them both to be entertaining in their own ways although yeah Arrested Development is definitely the OG and way funnier (probably my favourite comedy of all time). I usually watch Schitt’s Creek with my family because we all like it so I kind of associate it with bonding with my family so there’s a sentimental attachment there although I get why you don’t like it. To me the show Friends is quite literally just Seinfeld but without everything that makes Seinfeld funny so therefore Friends is just sort of unwatchable to me so I guess I kind of get how you feel about Schitt’s Creek even through I’m a fan of both Schitt’s Creek and Arrested Development?? I feel like I worded this strangely and came off as a bit passive aggressive lmao.

ehhhh i don't really think friends ever tried to be seinfeld, even if they are both shows about a group of white friends in their 20s/30s living in new york. i do agree that seinfeld is funnier, but i think the goal of friends was to be more of a comfort show than anything else, and unlike the seinfeld characters, you were meant to like the friends, and you rooted for them to get happy endings. i also think friends always relied more of the comedic timing of the actors as opposed to the writing - so much of friends works solely because of how good david schwimmer, matthew perry, and lisa kudrow are at comedic acting. plus it focused more on the ensemble aspect than seinfeld ever did imo. different style of humour to seinfeld but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not good.

unfortunately, schitt’s creek did not get that message, and it tries so hard to be funny but just...fails in my mind. and i think it was a far more obvious copy of AD than friends ever was of seinfeld: wealthy family loses everything except for one piece of property, are forced to get along and deal with the sudden change in circumstances. schitt's creek just feels like a watered down and dumber version of AD, and the cast constantly felt like they were overacting. and like, yeah, not everyone is going to be will arnett or david cross or jessica walter, but SC just gave me so much second hand embarrassment. friends didn't always have the best writing but the cast usually made it work, whereas whenever a SC cast member gets nominated for something i feel as if i'm being gaslit, because...in what world. and i usually love overacting - riverdale is my favourite show - but SC was just cringey to watch.

also, unpopular(?) opinion, but i don't particularly care for sitcoms that feel preachy. the fun of arrested development were that the bluth family were self centered assholes with absolutely no self awareness. even if the writing remained good, i wouldn't want it to be about how They All Become Better People, because i WANT to laugh at rich assholes! characters shouldn't remain stagnant, but man. at least do it like community where the study group did grow and change as people, but it resulted in them becoming codependent and shitty to everyone outside the group. you loved the characters and wanted what was best for them, but you'd still despise them irl. SC is just so focused on niceness and ~making everyone likeable~ that it just falls to the same fate as mike schur shows: a preachy, dull piece of work that ultimately just feels like the writers having a superiority complex.

anyway lol this is a very long response given your ask but comedy tv is my passion and i just will never understand how so many people think SC is as funny as it is. but hey, everyone is allowed to find different things funny! i just like to complain whenever the most unfunny gifsets of all time pop up on my dash. maybe if that gay guy said I’M MAKING FAJITAS the way david schwimmer did then i would care.

I feel like I would have more tolerance for Reylo if it’s fanbase actually knew how to act normal about a frickin space movie. But no. They’re racist, they’re misogynistic, they send death threats, they’re stalkers, they harass Adam Driver’s wife because they want him to be with Daisy Ridley, they harass John Boyega for daring to make a simple joke about their shitty ship, they try and turn Rey into a baby machine who’s only purpose in the story is to “fix” Kylo and then have his children, they’re obsessed with the idea that Rey somehow got pregnant from that one kiss, they spam every Star Wars post with #BringBackBenSolo, they throw other characters under the bus to make their face look better, they seem to think that Han, Luke, and Leia somehow abused Kylo and that Kylo was justified in killing his own father, and they don’t even seem to LIKE the characters their precious space terrorist owes his entire existence to.

LITERALLY

like there are several ships I dislike for one reason or another but that I'm easily able to just ignore (example: obi/kin) because the shippers are mostly normal people who don't put their shippy stuff in tags it doesn't belong in and who don't bother people

obviously every big ship has obnoxious shippers but it seems to me that with reylo the obnoxious shippers are the majority

Once saw somebody say in the same breath that one of their favourite characters of all time was Anakin Skywalker and one of their least favourite characters of all time was Severus Snape and I just went ???? Huh??? Like surely if you can understand Anakin’s fall to the dark side then you can understand Severus’s? Plus Severus was a low-ranking DE for 3-ish years before switching sides after Voldemort threatened Lily and then spent the next 17 years fighting to bring him down. The worst that Severus did throughout the time that Harry knew him was be a verbally mean teacher. Anakin on the other hand, was second in command to the Emperor and one of the most notorious and feared men in the galaxy, known for choking people to death, blowing up planets, holding his own daughter hostage, cutting off his own son’s hand, murdering younglings even before he became Vader, committing war crimes and just generally harming people willy nilly whenever he pleases. And then at the end of ROTJ he sacrifices himself to save his son, which is nice. Overall I just don’t get how you could love Anakin and hate Snape at the same time because they’re both very similar, except that the bad things that Anakin did were infinitely worse than the bad things that Snape did.

honestly, you can like a villain and dislike another character but if you do like a villain and you make/reblog posts about how another character is terrible and that character’s fans are bad or weird for liking them, then you’re a hypocrite and nothing you say matters.

i have to admit it’s funny to see those people go, ‘snape is just awful,’ because the worst thing he did as a death eater was hand a prophecy to voldemort. meanwhile their favorite characters have killed millions

Man last night I was reading this thing that was from a book called the Smuggler’s Guide I believe (Idk I haven’t read it) that somebody transcribed and posted on here and it was Leia’s final goodbye love letter that she wrote to Han and left on the Falcon “for” him right after he died and when I tell you I sobbed into my pillow for two hours last night over how emotional it made me I’m not exaggerating. And then I look at the notes and it’s a bunch of Reylos complaining about how Leia didn’t even mention “Ben,” or as I like to call him; Kyle Rat and the worst Star Wars character since Jar Jar Binks aka THE REASON WHY SHE WAS EVEN WRITING THIS LETTER TO HER DEAD HUSBAND IN ORDER TO COPE WITH HER GRIEF OVER LOSING HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE SINCE HE MURDERED HIM IN COLD BLOOD and how this proves that she was “a terrible mother and person right until the very end” and when I tell you I wanted to scream.

reylosers: making everything in star wars about kyle ron since 2015, even stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with him

they also have a strong tendency of talking shit about every character who is not kyle (honestly, the way they talk about rey sometimes, they hate her as well if she does anything that doesn’t cater to benny boy)
