Possessive Nature

Danny was worried, Undergrowth was coming for a visit and that would be completely fine if Poison Ivy wasn't blocking his way home while proclaiming that her babies deserved better.

Sam had gotten both ghosts to talk and now they had a sort of uneasy truce, and Danny needed his help to stop killing the plants in his new apartment in Gotham so he ended up asking for some advice, to which Undergrowth agreed.

Danny's first thought was that he was screwed, Ivy was going to meet Undergrowth and they would try to rule the world, maybe put it in a state of permanent vegetation; that would be good, if they didn't plan to destroy everything that was there. His second thought was his mistake in thinking of Gotham as an "uneventful" place. His third thought was to call Batman.

Unfortunately he couldn't continue thinking because the Ancient of nature arrived at his location, he surveyed all the greenery and seemed to marvel, before noticing the halfa in the center of the whole mess. Danny would have been long gone if Ivy hadn't planted a stupid variety of blood blossoms during her attack; he couldn't do more than greet the Ancient with a grimace, it was obvious that he couldn't move much.

The wonder on Undergrowth's face faded and he frowned, summoning his own ghost flowers and staying away from the deadly variety of blood blossoms.

Bright side: Undergrowth and Ivy had not teamed up to rule the world.

Downside: He discovered how possessive ghosts are as Gotham became the modern day Amazon.

Fuck, he really didn't want to explain it to Batman.

...beeps, chirps, clicks and whirs, crackles and hisses, grumbles and growls, rattle-wail crying (they're physically unable to shed tears), horrible metal screeching noises, hums, rumbles, mrrs-n-purrs.

It's interesting to think about how those noises would even be made. I feel like some would be physical while others would just come from a speaker (if iterators generate voices through those). Anyways, I'm sure they will all pop up more in my stuff~

i first came across this in Emily Wilson’s introduction to her Odyssey: “In Ithaca, he constructs multiple different autobiographies, usually claiming to have come from Crete—the traditional home of liars.”

i did some more digging because that’s an interesting stereotype, and I found that Titus basically made that exact statement in the New Testament claiming, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.”

That idea probably came from Epimenides, a Cretan himself, stating that, “All Cretans are liars,” an idea which would be known as the Cretan paradox (by saying that, Epimenides implies that he himself is a liar meaning that statement is not true). (x)

This became a whole thing amongst the Greeks, even causing them to coin a new term—“to cretanize” or kretizo, which meant ‘to lie’.

As you can see, this was a widespread idea, so Odysseus identifying himself as a Cretan is quite a silly thing to do, especially when he really wants to go under the radar.

edit: @godsofhumanity has found a mythological source!!! in fact Thetis herself was involved in the origin of this term in this case. On Crete, Medea and Thetis argued over who was the most beautiful and asked a local to judge for them (*sigh*). When he said Thetis, Medea got angry and called all Cretans liars, cursing them to never say the truth again. (x)

I think it’s kinda funny to consider that this happened only a single generation before the Iliad so Odysseus calling himself a Cretan is extra ironic when the association between them and liars is recent and fresh.

well, when Zephyr fell and went dark he was messed up by it so badly he never really got out of it even after he takes up raising and caring for batflies. he's so used to feeling anger all the time and hardly anything else that he doesn't know how to deal with the feelings Zephyr's passing makes him go through. he essentially becomes paralyzed in the grief, which is actually the main thing that destroys Mission Self-preservation

Boreas is the first one Euros tells about his second Rot

another tragedy he won't be able to cope with. Euros' last broadcast is singing into the frequencies, for anyone still alive and capable to listen to him for the last time. B and some more others come together and answer his calls, sing to him until his power fails and Euros goes dark

if he didn't love the boy, the man who doesn't like to sing much wouldn't come to mourn with a ballad at the funeral

his anger at Notos' blindness is inspired by my parents whenever my disability becomes the topic of a conversation. they are so so angry i've been hurt this way. nobody should have to be disabled, we are supposed to be okay. so Boreas loves Notos unbelievably much and his anger at the injustice done to her is an evidence of it. he doesn't get to call it before it collapses like with Euros because the communications are down and something tells him that it wouldn't really want to see him in its final moments upright either way. after Zephyr's collapse he became even more prickly including to his loved ones since he can't deal with it and that ended with Notos replying in kind. it's his fault that the two drifted away, but he still loves that kid

i dunno where i've seen it but in some film i think there was a scene of an addict dad and his kid, POV the kid. the dad shouted and cursed and blamed the kid for his state and for his grief, probably shattered an alcohol bottle too, then he realized what he just did while the kid cowered in the corner. he was *horrified*. he came to the kid and hugged them softly, crying and apologizing, begging for forgiveness. the child was just scared, wide eyed in confusion. that's what Boreas and Notos' relationship ends up carrying in spirit nearing the end of them all

they still love each other, but the other is doing such horrible dangerous decisions and acting even worse that it's impossible to stand and it hurts So damn much to space away from it. to shoot a fiery glare towards him when on the good days he can be the epitome of safety. so it's complicated but the love Is there, making it hurt that much more

Haboob is the only one who sorts of falls into that "its just my responsibility to take care of you" field. i kind of think of Boreas like a lion. he will stay and protect his kids, play with them, but offspring of others will be killed (ofc he doesn't go That far with fellow Iterators). after Notos, the Anemoi were supposed to be a finished group. that's it. there's only four gods to be named after. so Haboob to him is like a kid he was forced to adopt, by people he absolutely loathes. while Euros learned how to love her, Boreas just learned how to take on the responsibility. being horrible to her was easier than anyone else, but surprisingly to him it still stung when Haboob had enough and essentially slammed the door in his face by leaving the Anemoi chat and blocking his frequency. didn't help that Notos followed soon after too, cuz at this point it loved Haboob more than whatever was Boreas becoming

he took note of the sting n at some point figured out that he did actually love the kid. spent too long with her chatting with Euros and Notos in the back of his mind to not accept her into the family properly. in the off string post-MA au them addressing their relationship is one of the more important plot points

Oh man that's a tough one, I sure love creechur. But (mario voice) here we go!

1- The Tarasque.

Such an absurd creature, an ancient pre-christian gallic myth that survived all this time, with the story of its demise still being celebrated in the original village where it supposedly happened to this day? Very difficult for me not to be completely entranced by this strange beast and having my heart filled with affection for it.

I mean. Just look at it. ♥

2- Dragons

Though the Tarasque technically is a dragon, I do have to add them to that list, the more common ones people think of when they hear that name.

It's an undying classic, powerful and classy, and you can absolutely never go wrong with those beasts. They always slap. Never fails.

3- The Monkfish (or Sea Monk)

I'm just. I'm fucking. Biaised towards that poor pathetic creature. Like. I mean. Just look at this fucking thing.

This is a monk fish. It was supposedly found somewhere in the 1500s. Apparently it does fill some sort of ecclesiastic role to bless the mermaids down there or something. Like I'm being straight up this is what they said back then. THis is so fucking funny to me. My friends and I found out about it in a book about sea myths on a vacation and we cried laughing at him for the whole week we were there and now he's legitimately our symbol.

I'm talking 'printing a flag with this goddamn drawing on it' symbol. Taking this flag wherever we go and putting it up proudly like we're the monkfish nation.

Tengu and Scarecrow - The Death Waltz

Teapot - Prison Toys

I think narratively all these songs would make logical sense when paired up with the Ladies.

Teapot has a prisoner motif and is known to be curious, so the song having this sense of wonder only to end on a nostalgic piano recreation of the melody makes especially sense when you remember there's a piano in her section. The Death Waltz goes to the sisters for obvious reasons, but I also like how the musical base of the song plays a completely different tune from the singing voice, yet the two don't necessarily make the other less enjoyable. They just go together on parallel lines. As for Fox... Beneath the Waves is perfect because to me it really sounds like someone being lost and not knowing where to go/be, only for the Maw to come in at the very end.
