I, a very white and somewhat privileged person, am absolutely terrified to draw colored people. Because I don’t know if I’d cross the thin line of tasteful and authentic or racist and stereotypical…

Lol for starters don't refer to us as coloured people. This ain't 1955. Secondly my best advice to you is to use references of actual people of color. I would highly recommend staying away from those white men art station youtuber type artists for tutorials because they get a majority of their techniques and style from main stream video games and comic books, which to put it nicely don't have the best reputation for representing women and poc. tangent over, so yeah references. real life photographs of brown and black people.

pinterest is a site that a lot of current, especially younger artists like to use, but in all honesty it's not a very good source for someone trying to learn the fundamentals. it'll mainly show you 20 something year old ig and twitter models which is okay if you wanna just draw pretty people; but not the best if you wanna like I said learn fundamentals + have a portfolio that's varied. also it's rife with ai shit and stolen art, so yeah would only recommend that as an initial starting point/using it to make your own personal board for your saved images.

stock photo sites are my go to for refs. getty images, istock, alamy, etc. a simple right click save image or screenshot will work to get the images you want for free. of course there will be the watermarks, but they're honestly a very small issue to bypass. as long as they're not opaque and nearly covering the entire subject; you're good. a nice thing about stock photo sites is they usually give you the option to filter the image search results. say for instance you want to draw an elderly asian woman cooking or a young black man painting a picture or an indigenous child playing with dolls. you can look up certain terms you want in the search bar & specify gender, age and ethnicity to narrow down your search to what you want.

another awesome place for references i discovered during college is posespace.com

like with getty images, it gives you the option to filter your searches. they also have their models in clothed or nude shoots in the event that you want to practice some bare bones anatomy.

also also, get your info from artists of color. there's a decent amount of tutorials ive found over the years on here and youtube on coloring skintones, drawing certain hair types, how to avoid caricatures and stereotyping, different facial features, cultural hairstyles. the list goes on. don't be afraid to depict people outside of your race. literally just go about drawing us the same way you would a white person. don't be scared, as long as you remain respectful and make an honest effort to learn; you'll do fine.

@/damoselcastel was kind enough to show me a bunch of the FE:Fates visual works artbook pages the other day!

and because i am continuing to be .... brain rotted (lol) ... grabbed a copy since there was more than a few relevant pages/official artworks, and wanted to have a high res/color corrected version of these pages for art refs to slap on my reference boards! if i'm looking at them every day now for the past three months they better be accurate!!!

for real tho i remember my first conquest playthrough my jaw was on the FLOOR being genuinely amazed at how cool the worldbuilding was especially on the nohrian side with the gothic vibe and y'all don't know how useful this is going to be to replicate nohrian motifs in all of my drawings/probable comics/doujinshi/etc.

The New Boy (Male Reader x Damage Control)

It was just another action packed night at Monday Night Raw when Austin Thoery wanted to gloat about his victory over John Cena and mock him by delivering an open challenge to anyone in the back.

as people wanted eagerly waiting to see who it was. A new signing? a NXT callup? but confusing would shock the crowd as Damage Control's music would play and out came the members of the faction.

Bayley: "Oh Austin Theory, i must say it was pretty impressive to see you beat that dork John Cena last night" Austin smiled at the comment

Austin:" Thank you Bayley, Too bad i can'r say the same to you guys though. kinda embarrassing" All 3 members gave Austin a look screamed really?. Bayley would recover by laughing sarcastically

Bayley: "Anyway, We aren't out here to congratulate you, thats for someone else…ya dummy" The crowd murmured as Austin would look confused. "You see, you do have a opponent that will answer your open challenge for your United States Championship. You see dummy, me and my girls were talking something wasnt right with Damage Control. So we talked and talked and what we figured out was, whilst we are taking over the Women's division…..who is gonna take over the men's division. The crowd perked up. A new member? a male member?? Austin looked disinterested whilst Iyo and Kai were smiling "Not only that in the past this man has also beaten John Cena and in way more convincing fashion then you" Austin looked annoyed "

Austin: "Oh wow amazing, just get the chump out already"

Bayley:" Ok touchy touchy. Dummies all over the world, please welcome the newest member of Damage Control!!!!!" Bayley would point to the entrance and Iyo and Kay would be clapping

The were looking at the entrance many notice a figure on the apron behind Thoery. Bayley would laugh and turn to Thoery

Bayley: "HAHAHAHAHAHA GOT YA DUMMY. WHY YOU LOOKING OVER HERE! DING DONG LOOK BEHIND YOU DUMMY" Austin would turn around whilst being confused and was it with a spring board blockbuster by a hooded figure.

Graves: "WHAT THE HELL"

Saxton: "Thoery just got ambushed by someone, who is apparently the newsiest member of Damage Control?"

The crowd cheered at the move and waited to see who it was but the figure started to relentlessly attack theory with stomps and kicks. Thoery wasnt ready to be hit with a powerful spinebuster, the move making all the pain from his match with Cena kick up again. Wobbly and could barely stand up was grabbed by the jaw by the hooded figure

???:" WHERE IS THE BLOODY REF!!!" The man screamed as a referee slid into the ring past Damage Control who were now ringside. The referee tried to pull the man away from Theory "RING THE BELL OR I WILL RING YOURS" The referee who was scared by the man gave in and rang the bill. But during this Austin couldn't help but recognise that voice. The crowd was clearly invested by the man

Iyo Sky: "Finish it!" Iyo shouted as Kai was taunting fans and Bayley was laughing.

The figure went to move his hood and the crowd were excited

The hood came off

Crowd pop

Graves: "OH MY GOD"

Patrick: "HIS BACK!!!"

Saxton: "Y/N IS BACK!!"

Amongst the cheers were Damage Control were cheering Y/N whilst Austin would be in shock and sadness even though he was feeling faint

Patrick:" BUT WHY, Y/N AND AUSTIN ARE ALMOST LIKE BROTHERS"

Saxton: "Yes the duo were apart of the way and carried NXT tag team gold"

Graves :" You just said it, Gold. He wants the United States Championship. and it looks like he is gonna bring it to his new family of damage control" Y/N picked up Austin and hit him with a Rock Bottom. "Oh! the Deadend"

On new years resolutions

This is a very rambly post from me, a rare poster but here we are. If you're interested we're taking new years resolutions and art

I've never done new years resolutions before due to the fact, they're the worst way to decide to build a habit so why would I...

But I thought it would be fun to try and challenge myself to create a piece of week of art, with the expectation I wouldn't achieve anything but it would be fun to look back on.

And I fully believed I wouldn't hit that ~52 piece of art goal I'd set for myself, but on collating the above images I was suprised to find out that actually yes I had. So thats cool. But what I also loved about this is that it wasn't just the portrature studies

But that this year I tried to learn Blender, I took a pottery course, I finished 3 embridery pieces, I designed my friends VTubersonas. And a lot were studies, composites of 15 minutes at a time working on my painting skills, but shockingly I can see the improvement, even though my art goals have escaped me as I've aged.

Art as a kid was something I did and something I posted for the attention but art as I've grown older has been put on the back burner alongside work and life. Its nice to see in one image that its not gone anywhere and that I still love it, creating things is deeply joyful.

To bring back around to the point, this was a new years resolution, something that I hadn't done. Something that I felt wouldn't really add much, but it allows reflection and timeboxes the idea that I wanted to persue, something measurable and confirmable. It wouldn't have mattered if I'd hit the target, I just loved to see the things that I have done and enjoyed artistically this year.

I find myself wanting to persue the joy of looking back and of setting a new years resolution, but maybe I just need to take the time to enjoy the things I have achieved. I've just started to learn crochet so maybe next years collage will feel textile, or maybe it will be empty not chased by such a resoltion.

trying my hardest to "#FOR MY FILES" this but raven boy/shane wright and also raven boy/mason mctavish. why does he have so many canadian bulldog shaped bfs. more importantly mason/shane and that picture of them cradling the u18 trophy. the vibes between them are completely undecipherable and also logical at the same time. i want more

all very important thoughts, anon. and pondering the vibes among those three has prompted me to write a little more into the single existing scene with mason and connor and shane that i have in my top secret raven boy files, and i will give that to you below the jump. contains no explicit material regarding minors but if anybody is squeamish about minors existing in an a/b/o world this probably isn't the WIP for you.

Wright starts shuffling the pizza boxes around, consolidating the spare slices into one box and stacking up the empties.

Guenther flicks his last hand of cards toward the center of the table. “Knock off the omega bullshit, Shane.”

“Fuck off.” Wright tries to close the lid of the overfilled box, jamming it down over the rest of the pizza. “I’m an alpha.”

The room’s too quiet, like all the sound’s been absorbed into the padded partitions that section off their quadrant of the hotel’s conference center. Guenther’s mean laugh breaks the silence. “Son, your balls haven’t even dropped yet.”

“I got tested,” Shane insists, indignant as everyone else around the table laughs. “They said my levels are super high.”

“That doesn’t mean shit.”

Privately, Mason agrees with Guenther. The genetic test is maybe 70 percent accurate before you present. Not worth paying for, his dad said. Said Mason could prove himself just fine without some bullshit lab report.

“Scouts care,” Shane mutters, and no one tries to tell him he’s wrong. They’ve all heard that a doctor signing off on an alpha prediction can be enough to bump you up a team’s draft board.

“Nobody knows, though.” Zelly flicks the edges of his cards through his fingers. He probably worries about it more than most of them do. He’s the kind of small skills guy who’s probably spending his draft year trying to prove he won’t turn out to be an omega. “It’s not like any of us are going to be MacKinnon.”

It was big news when MacKinnon presented early. Showed up at the combine reeking of alpha and everybody knew what Colorado was getting at first overall. Knocked Seth Jones right out of the top slot, even though eventually he turned out to be an alpha anyway. Most first rounders do. Although the ones who don’t usually come from the U.S. program like Jones did.

Zelly looks around the table in search of agreement, but everyone’s looking at Mason. Mason keeps his hand still, fighting the nervous instinct to rub his knuckles over his beard. He wishes he’d shaved after all. But he was winning when he left Switzerland, and he wants to keep winning here.

“You have got to be an alpha,” Guenther pronounces.

“Seriously,” Stanks agrees with him. Guys are nodding.

Two seats down from Mason, Connor isn’t. His face is impassive as always, hard to read. But he’s got an awkward set to his jaw with his lip curled back a little, same as he did on the bus from the airport when nobody wanted to talk to him. Mason’s starting to figure out how to read him. Or at least he can tell Connor fucking hates any topic that might remind somebody he’s fifteen years old.

“What do you care?” Mason leans back in his chair. “You lining up to suck my alpha dick?”

Guenther’s voice is loud over the laughter. “Wright might be.”

“Fuck off,” Shane snaps. It must be hard for the little robot to deal with something he can’t control. No matter how hard Shane tries to work hard and do the right thing and ace the genetic test, he can’t predict how he’s going to present. Mason’s never seen him get even the least bit rattled before. Usually Shane’s the guy you want talking to the refs. He’s a good captain. Nice to everyone, no special treatment for the guys he likes. You can’t even tell who he likes. Maybe he actually hates all of them.

“Okay, stack ‘em up.” Mason shoves his chair back from the table and slots his poker chips into the cardboard box without bothering to sort them. “I’m going to bed.”

Chips click together and someone gathers up the stray cards and shuffles the deck to put away. Guenther and Stanks start arguing about the pot for tomorrow night’s game. Mason picks up his water bottle and falls into step with Connor on the way to the elevator.

The awkward conversation lingers around them like a bad smell. Mason can’t think how to change the subject. Connor’s quiet next to him. He hits the elevator button with the base of his water bottle. The doors open and the up arrow chimes almost immediately.

They’re the only ones in the car. Connor leans back in one corner and lifts his feet off the floor, boosting himself up with his hands on the railing that runs around the edge of the elevator. “Can I ask…” One of his slides threatens to fall off his foot and he points his toes upward to catch it. He lowers his feet back to the floor. “Never mind.”

“No, what.” Mason’s pretty sure he knows what’s coming. He looks up at the floors ticking off on the panel. 

“You don’t have to tell me.” The elevator starts to slow.

“It’s okay.” The numbers stop at their floor. Mason slips his keycard out of his pocket and balances it on opposite corners between his thumb and forefinger 

“You didn’t say…” Just before the doors open, Connor finally spits it out. “Are you an alpha or what?”

“Shit, I don’t know.” The vestibule on their floor is empty except for a glass-topped table with a vase and a fanned-out set of magazines about things to do in Texas. The flowers in the vase might be fake. Mason can’t tell.

The ice machine rattles in its alcove as they pass. “You haven’t presented?”

“Don’t look so surprised.” Most people don’t present at eighteen. Every year there’s some group advocating to move draft eligibility back to age 20 or 21. It’s always based on some bullshit about growth curves and developmental years but everybody understands the real advantage for teams would be knowing more about what they’re getting, dynamic-wise.

“I don’t know.” Connor rolls his eyes. “You just look…” He waves his hand like Mason’s self-explanatory.

“It’s the beard, isn’t it?” Mason rubs his knuckles over it. He does like the beard.

Connor snorts. “Yeah, probably.”

“You love it.” Mason shoulders Connor into the wall next to the door of their room. “Maybe it’ll rub off on you.” He scrapes his jaw against the side of Connor’s face, feeling reckless and giddy. Connor yelps, startled, and hip-checks him out of the way. Mason stumbles sideways across the hall. He keeps getting surprised by the power stored in Connor’s short frame. He lunges back at him, jamming his chin against Connor’s cheek. “C’mon, get some beard.”

Connor shoves him away with both hands on Mason’s chest. “Dumbass,” he says, but the tense set to his jaw is gone. He might even be smiling.

this was who he was based on. alfie from fucking blue y . i dont know how i found him nor why i wanted to make a character named alfie because of it but i did AND i needed a name for my achievement hunter (which i portmanteaued, horribly, into his last name) save file(s). So alfie achivunter it was.......... and AND THIS IS WHY HE'S LIKE. THE "DOG GUY". and thats why he looked like THIS at one point :

Anyway here’s a ref for my fursona Meni after 7 quadrillion years, i never made a proper one when i used a previous design for them. The last proper ref sheet i made was for my first fursona, Moogie (i stole their name) but i don’t draw them anymore. (Also the ref sheet sucked so lmao)

But yeah have i ever mentioned how much i love Meni??? I love them so fucking much. Unbiased opinion they are so pretty and so lovely and i just want to snuggle them (plus they’re also so gender) WOULD YOU LOOK AT THEM!!! YES!!! I really wish to know more about your characters, I took the time to read your post about their specie and ngl I've wanted to draw one of your dragons for a really long time now (but alas real life happens. Earlier today I also shared the Saturnian lore with my best friend, and he asked me some worldbuilding questions about them. I'll paste some of them here, prepare for massive infodump.

Is this like written by the Saturnians pov or Humans? Since its like an exstensive look on Saturnians

Human observation, yes. Saturnians are very secretive on what data they want to share. Except basic census data, that is still fine for them.

Does the inter space travel from earth and satun back and forth exists?

It does exist. Their space travel enables Earth-Saturn travel in 3-4 months depending on orbit position of the two planets.

For comparison, Pioneer 11, the first Saturn space probe, reached the ringed planet after about 6 years (1973-1979)

also interplanetary space travel is now common? Like earth residents can afford tour to Saturn or is it still closed off to general public?

They use Saturnian ships to transfer people back and forth. Frankly no one really wants to wait 6 years to reach the ringed planet when it can be done within 4 months.

The agreement that the two races had to make to get permission to board Saturnian ships was lengthy. Even then human passengers are closely supervised to make sure they don't "steal" technology.

its interesting that if Saturn itself is 'alive', does the Saturnian revere every land that they built upon and try not to damage or relentlessly build on them and have lenghty process to learn if the soil should be preserved and everything like that?

They try to build… what's the word… respectfully? Responsibly? One of the two. Minimizing altering the landscape and build on whatever is there for them to use.

They claim to be able to "speak" or "hear" from the planet itself, a concept that's truly out of human comprehension. Whether it's actual extrasensory perception, a form of indirect communication with other individuals, or simply just a belief is anyone's guess. They have words for things that humans can't define. And the fact that their life expectancy is 5 to 7 times longer than an average human is already well beyond human comprehension.

They've been around for more than 1.5 million years. Modern humans (that is, homo sapiens) have only been around for 200,000.

It's black, nearly void black. Blood types, I haven't done that far on worldbuilding. I may just left it out for simplicity.

also what they were look like in their tribal stage before being one of the most advanced race in the universe? Also if we ever venture outside Saturnia, will we ever find other settlements or civillizations or maybe ruins of Saturnians past?

They've conserved their history completely in digital media through augmented reality in almost perfect detail. This allows anyone in Saturn to access it for research purposes with minimal need to travel. Any leftovers of past civilization have been repurposed for building and manufacturing.

Currently they're experimenting with copying consciousness into digital media although the ethics for that is still debatable among various cultures and subcultures.

if Saturnia inspired from solarpunk aesthetics, does communal events exist? Like maybe a massive festival dedicated to Saturn or 'nature' in our sense or a national potluck day or smth like that, just wholesome communal events that connect with nature and everything

They still do in less populated areas. A bit difficult to do in large dense settlements, where instead it's done through virtual reality.

Saturnian "virtual reality" has successfully replicated senses like touch and smell, alongside visual and audio, by directly and wirelessly interacting with the brain stem and providing "fake" senses. Which means this has also allowed the disabled to partake in virtual reality events.

I don't have ideas for Saturn-specific social events right now, but once I do, I'll tell you.

did they ever harness nuclear power?

Fusion reactors, in extremely limited numbers and in very specific use cases. Majority of power is still harvested from wind farms.

i mean if saturnians are technologically advanced, they must've created a technology that can replace or repair limbs?

Prosthetics? They're not super advanced in medicine. They still haven't solved their low healthy birth rate issue. 1.5 million years and they haven't figured out why only 7 out of 10 to 11 of their eggs are able to successfully hatch.

Some cultures believe it's the way Saturn intended and they shouldn't try to figure it out, like why would one question how nature works. Some other cultures believe it's a hidden genetic code waiting to be unlocked, and then some other cultures also believe that doing so will just cause disaster.

If it was an alien utopia, they wouldn't need weapons like railguns. But here they are, still having internal issues waiting to be solved.

It’s been awhile! I’m already at the dorm and the commute today was such a hassle. This morning, I got in the wrong stop. It’s also getting harder to ride the bus going home when I leave the office around 5:30pm. Ang dami nang taong naghihintay sa bus stop. So I either leave on the dot or leave around 7pm.

Anyways! I was occupied at work today unlike these past few days na wala akong ginagawa (literally— at least I’m paid though). This week is eventful naman and I have scheduled deployments and workshops tomorrow and friday. I’m slowly familiarizing myself with the ongoing projects and I’m glad that our Enablement Engineer is helping me bit by bit even though he’s busy with the ISO. Once I familiarize myself with the flow naman, I know I can do a good job. Kailangan ko lang talaga lakasan yung loob ko when it comes to facing the customers because that’s what my job is. I’m pretty much excited this week because I get to travel outside the office.

Anyways again! I spent two hours chatting with my board mates during dinner. They’re all friendly unlike yung mga nakasama ko last 2020. At least living here is bearable. Someone might buy a mini ref for our unit and I told her I’ll chip in with the charges monthly. I’m also planning to buy a small water dispenser because I can’t keep drinking lukewarm water.

I’m also thinking if I should have my laundries done here or at home. Kasi naman meron pa akong mga underwear and I pretty much hate doing laundry during the weekend kasi nakakain ng oras. This weekend din I’m planning to help my brother get his shit together. Nakakairita na kasi yung pag-uugali niya na ayaw niya mag trabaho.

Ah, I almost forget. I wrote this down in my notes app. Funny na everything that was written here (back in January pa ha!), eh natupad ko. I was able to wake up at 6am (well because of my meds and I have to eat breakfast by 7am). I also stopped binge watching kdramas all day. Instead, I looked for jobs during my spare time, I helped in cleaning, I was able to sort out my social media accounts. I also quit vaping— well, kasi nga nagka Tuberculosis ako. And last is staying in my room which I realized na I’m not being productive when I’m in my room all day. So I try to stay in the living room as much as I can and do my work there. Nakakatuwa lang na I was able to change these unproductive habits of mine this year even though it took me awhile to complete it. I still have A LOT of unproductive and unhealthy habits to change. Might as well list them on the notes app. To be honest ngayon ko nalang nabalikan ‘to eh, and I’m surprised with the results.

I’ll sleep na din pala. It’s 10:54pm and tinuloy ko lang itong post na ‘to kasi nag catch up muna ako ng Lies Hidden in My Garden. Tomorrow I’ll start watching Celebrity. I’m also thinking of subscribing again sa Netflix. Isasabay ko na kapag nag bayad ako ng The Moon tickets, Spotify, and iCloud. Aabutin pala ako ng 773php for everything. Hay. I’ll just pay tomorrow or on Saturday. I can’t keep watching sa Cineb using my iPad. Nakaka drain ng battery.

Congregational or episcopal Character of the Church?

During my probation time – as a beginning pastor in Belgium – there was a lot of discussion on the congregational or episcopal principle in the United Protestant Church in Belgium – Verenigde Protestantse Kerk in België / VPKB). Next to the fact that the protestant church in Belgium (especially in Flanders) was somewhat different from protestant churches in other countries, the assumed character of the church was utterly important! In fact – there was an extra assessment for theologians from outside Belgium, who wanted to work within the VPKB – the so called “box” with reading Materials was very mysterious and very important… Among other things one was asked for an estimate on the church being rather congregational or episcopal?

Soon I found out, that it is not easy to define “episcopal”. Is it about bishops (local, regional or national)? Within catholic (and laicism) dominated Belgium, I noticed that even though people tended to call the structure (within the protestant denomination) rather congregational, some pastors were somehow like local bishops anyway. Whereas pastors have a contract with the local church council, it would mostly be clear, that the pastor (or the main pastor) would be the chair of the church council. On the other hand, pastors might not necessarily be a member of the board, which is dealing with finances and other “worldly” matters. This “local attachment” of pastors sometimes makes it difficult for the church on the district or the synod level to interfere with the business of the local church – even if this might seem appropriate.

Furthermore, it is not easy to define the congregational character either. Yes, as a general protestant principle we have sovereignty of the local congregation. However, local congregations eventually gather in larger entities, and define common basic values. These might alter over time as well as the individual character of local congregations being or becoming part of the larger entity might differ.

Whereas Den Norske Kirke, until recently, was led by the King and all power being derived from there, the Evangelische Kirche in Hessen und Nassau (EKHN) is a construction from shortly after World War II. Ensuring that eventually in Nazi time shaped power structures would be cut off, the EKHN evolved from three regional churches, Nassau, Frankfurt and Hesse-Darmstadt. Bringing together a Union (luth. & ref.) oriented, a pietistic plus Declaration of Barmen oriented and a confirmation-founded and synodal structured church. The election of Martin Niemöller (a former submarine-captain and renamed member of the “Bekennende Kirche” in Nazi-Germany) as its first church-president, established the EKHN in the tradition of the “Bekennende Kirche”, construed from the local congregation – from below. A since the 1990s ongoing discussion on adequate church structure led to empowering the middle level – the deanery. This led to important changes within the church order. After 75 years, the EKHN considers itself an argumentative, pious and political church.

In Den Norske Kirke the role of the bishop seems to have changed over time – many things being decided on the communal level now, basic things are also being decided in the prosti (cfr. deanery).

It seems then, that history shapes churches in very different ways. They have in common, the continuous need of change. Apparently, a clear distinction between the congregational and episcopal principle is not possible.

In order for churches to find and define their character (again?), it will be important to look at what the church of Jesus Christ needs in the here and now! What are the values it carries? What is its mission and vision? What resources are (really) needed, in order to make this happen?

I'm curious about people's opinions on the glader's parents/guardians in like modern aus (or any aus about the glade). Like, how do you/would you write them?

Here are some of mine -- (TW for some familial trauma/death/divorce/blanket warning, and some spoilers)

Thomas: I have two that I tend to fall back on in fics/in my imagination. 1) very loving family. they all eat dinners together and have a lot of laughter. His is the household where his friends run away to. They're very supportive and are a source of comfort for him. 2) his parents are trying so hard, but they're struggling. Financially, relationship-wise, it depends, but they're very stressed, they may already be divorced but kind of miss each other or they're still together, but anyways their stress imbues into Thomas. This is why always feels he has to find problems and fix them. It's why he's not okay with just okay, because he worries it looks like fracturing.

Minho: I tend to hc them being extreme sporty parents. But, not the annoying kind exactly. They're not the ones yelling at the other kids to be better, but they are the ones to challenge the ref when Minho's playing football at 5 years old. They have the lawn chairs, the coolers, they bring the cut oranges and milk to all the kids. They're super competitive, but in a good way. And as their son becomes competitive, they use that to like challenge him to do well "c'mon, let's see who can eat more broccoli" or "c'mon, let's see who can stick to their night routines the best, I'll help you." Minho was in every sport under the sun, they just wanted him to find what he liked. They never made him do a sport, but they do encourage him when he wants to quit after a long time because they know the difference between him actually wanting to quit and him being frustrated. However, I also really love @un-ah's fic: and for a women wert thou first created, and the family dynamics there, tragic as they were.

Newt: I have two, and they're polar opposites. On the one hand, his parents/guardians (I often headcanon that his parents are gone and his grandparents/siblings of the parents take care of him) are kind people who live a hardworking but simple life. They're gardeners, or live on a farm, or live out in the country. Primarily self-sufficient, Newt learns to cut wood at a young age and grow plants and cook. They work hard but they have fun, and are favorites in the local town. They have many animals and Newt has a gift with them. OR, they're horrible, and have more money than sense. They ship Newt off to America at a young age to a boarding school and don't trust him to be capable of much, he was a problem child/annoying at home, and they send him away, and then when he's older and successful they expect him to come back and love them and be grateful toward them which Newt swallows but he feels very resentful.

Teresa: I picture being raised by a single father. Maybe this is bias because I know her mother dies of the flare and it's traumatic, but I just picture that it's her and her father and they both kind of take care of each other and it's truly the sweetest fucking relationship. He learns to do her hair and makes sure she always feels comfortable. He encourages her science and everything, but also because of what's happened in their family he says things like "you've got to look out for you, because I won't always be there, and I know you're strong, and I don't want to have to worry" and she would respond "just so long as you do, too, because I don't want to worry," and it's just a lovely relationship.

Gally: for some reason, I always picture a heterosexual couple and that his mother is not involved in his life by the time he's ten years old. Sometimes she died, most of the time she's left because of his dad. Sometimes Gally and her had a very close relationship when he was a young boy, sometimes they didn't, but he grew up very quickly. His dad, usually, (one big fic he isn't) is a nice guy who just doesn't really know how nor does he want to learn how to single parent. I kind of picture him to be like Will's dad from Sense8. He takes up some vice after Gally's mom is out of the picture, whether it's gambling or drinking or even becoming a workaholic. Gally spent most of his time taking care of him and taking care of himself. He cares a lot about his dad, but, when he's really stressed and really thinking dark, he can't help but think his life would be easier if his father were out of the picture, too.

Brenda: her parents are adventurers. Brenda was one of those babies strapped to the back of a parent as they climbed up a mountain. Given milk at a campsite next to a firepit they dug in the dirt. Sliding across the ice as they go over glaciers. They're fun loving and they might even be a little young, and their extended families were a bit shocked, but they go with it. And while Brenda constantly chastises them for thinking they're cool ("just because you're younger than other parents doesn't mean your hip") but she loves their dorkiness. Jorge is also there, and was friends of the parents, and when he first set sight on Brenda he was just in awe of the baby and loved her and would do anything for her.

Frypan: his parents are very introverted (whereas their son is NOT), but they're professional chefs and they met in the kitchen and their relationship is very competitive. They put the competitive nature aside at home when they see Frypan growing up and he just is not competitive in that way. They still have that fire with each other, trying to outdo the other, but after a while it's more just competing for the glitter in their son's eyes because they find it SO endearing and cute to see how interested he is in what they're doing. They decide to nurture that fun-loving charismatic side, and he rests on their shoulders as they cook and sometimes they do the linguini ratatouille thing where he tugs on their hair and they do what they want.

Anyways, I'm super curious about what other people think, y'know?? it's just fascinating. because there's so much different potential. And I love reading other people's headcanons. So, there <3

So, I have a weird way of drawing grumpuses kinda, I don’t use guidelines or anything I kinda just go. I probably wouldn’t recommend doing it exactly like I do especially if you’re trying to learn. Use guidelines totally I would say.

the biggest tip I can give for drawing grumps or anything really is use references! Get a large reference pool of grumpus pictures together. what I did first drawing the grumps was I got a blank page and I just doodled stuff and messed around with how grumps looks and fit their traits into how my style works. I think that’s truly the best way to learn to draw grumps, or like anything.

(also, to all my fellow iPad users out there I totally recommend the app VizRef. It’s an app where you can make giant references boards and It’s perfect for drawing on the iPad. It’s four dollars but totally worth it, if you’re an iPad user it’s a must have, I say. Get it you wont regret your decision.)

If you’re learning to draw grumpuses for yourself I would actually try not to apply everything in this tutorial in your own art, because a lot of this is just applies to how I personally draw grumps. unless you are trying to copy my style specifically, it’d recommend taking inspiration, if you’re trying to have your own way of drawing the funny muppet people

Anyway

90% of the time I draw grumpuses heads at a 3/4 view. This allows me to just draw in their eyes to start like so. For other head positions I draw a circle to start.

Then I start drawing the face. I’ll start with the nose that usually located under both eyes slightly. For character with an overbite I start the mouth next to the eye facing away from me and wrap it around. The rest of the characters will usually have a mouth that’s kinda like a subtle :3 face. That’s the best way I can describe it lmao

This is hardest part for me at least, for the heads I’ll draw the back of the neck and then the other side of the face, then I’ll connect them in a dome shape to make the head. It’s takes me like 20 times to draw the top of the head until it looks right, this part is very tedious. (The worst part is I’ll probably just erase it later because the characters probably wearing a hat or something else)

Boleslaw and Wiggle are kinda bad examples of this but- the shoulders for me will usually just start right after the neck. With the exception of Wambus and Wiggle and Floofty sometimes, I draw the arms before I draw the chest. I feel like it’s easier for me to plan out the pose that way cause I don’t use guidelines.

I usually just give grumps basic human anatomy, so arms end when they reach the thighs, make em seven heads tall, yada yada

Also nothin much to say about accessories, since those vary for each character.

This is the hardest part to explain. I draw the hands before I draw the arms since It’s easier to have the arm in the position I want it to be in. For grumpus paws I only give them four fingers and they’re usually little fat sausages. Nothing I can really say other than look at hands/paws. If it helps the palm isn’t a square, think of it more like a pentagon. And there’s usually a curve under the thumb and the pinky like you can see in the drawing below, don’t forget those. That was a tip I got and that’s probably helped me the most.

Legs are also kinda hard to explain. But there’s a shape diagram of how I shape the legs. Mess around with those kinda shapes. Also I take inspiration from animal legs, specially mammals like canines and big cats for the legs and feet. So I would recommend looking at those too.

Also I forgot to show it here but I try to raise the heels when I draw the feet sometimes. You can see it when I drew Snorpy’s feet in that one drawing of Snorpy and Gramble hanging out I drew. Most of the time they’re flat though.
