was going to start writing an essay about the possible overlap between christianity and OCD and then I remembered im on Tumblr dot com and also a fucking idiot when it comes to putting things into words

#idk man I just think about it sometimes #because I feel like one of the biggest steps in the direction of ocd treatment/management/recovery is to acknowledge that it exists #and recognize your obsessions and compulsions are becoming detrimental #and it becomes so much more difficult to do that when the obsessions are around gods perception of you/your own moral standing #because it just feels like a normal religious thing to be thinking about and worried about #and compulsions like repeated prayer just feel like something you're supposed to do #so even the thought that they could be bad feels blasphemous and it becomes a vicious cycle of ocd and IDK!!! IDK!!!!! #I still feel very weird talking about it with other people but its something I think about a lot because the worst part of it is that #no matter how bad it is breaking the cycle is maybe the most terrifying part of it and on top of that if religion is a big part of your lif #then it can be harder to find support for it as well because everyone around you doesn't see it as a problem either #idk im just rambling a little bit. anyways. hi guys religious ocd is a major bitch I kinda want to write something about it

i am dangerously close to making my own interpretation of superman

#soren.txt #maws needs to come back before i do something insane #anyways. so what i was thinking of was pulling the same idea maws had #with the main cast being significantly younger #and lois treating her internship like a bootcamp. the idea is so funny to me id kinda love to write it #but then she breaks away from this because of superman. the call to adventure if you will #and clark sorta had a rough time growing up because of his powers #maybe some accident happened which caused him to overcorrect himself so he doesn't use his powers at all #so metropolis is a completely new start for him #BUT during his senior year of highschool is when pa dies #so when he comes to metropolis the trauma is still somewhat raw? especially since he spent the next few years #trying to keep a brave face for the sake of ma because he feels like that's all he really *can* do #he may or may not have some guilt because he feels like he could've prevented it from happening to begin with #i think jimmy would be a nice change of pace for him. grounding him a bit more n all. #while lois is practically begging him to join her. clark is very attached to his safe space with jimmy lol #anyways eventually itd get to the point of clois slowburn and lois building a *platonic* relationship with both clark and supes #because as ive expressed before i kinda wanted stupid love triangle shenanigans and also i love slow burn #and im obsessed with the powers connected to emotions trope that im dialing it up a notch

I think many people who refer to intrusive thoughts incorrectly as being like "oo I dyed my hair! My intrusive thoughts won today teehee" are actually thinking of *impulsive thoughts* which, while not always normal, are still distinct from intrusive thoughts

#i think of impulsive thoughts as being much more action leaning #like when you have an impulsive thought youre more likely to act quickly and think on it less #perhaps even regretting it later #and obviously this can be dangerous and harmful too just in a different way #and the only reason i make this distinction is because people with intrusive thoughts dont want to act on them #often they will think about it for hours because of how distressing the mere concept of them maybe wanting to act on it is to them #intrusive thoughts dont 'win'. you either obsess over them or forget about about them. theres no winning it just is #anyway maybe this is pedantic and seems unimportant #but as someone with often very distressing and obsessive intrusive thoughts #i can say that nothing scares me more than the idea that those thoughts will 'win' #impulsive thoughts also come from a place of desire/actually wanting to act on the thing at least a little bit #even if you havent stopped to consider that it might be a bad idea or you might regret it #its like if you think 'i want to eat a second piece of cake' and then you do even though you know this will give you a stomach ache #versus thinking 'what if i ate thumbtacks' and then being very worried that theres something wrong with you #you probably didnt *want* to eat thumbtacks. it was just a passing thought that couldn't be dismissed #i hope this makes sense at least a little bit and im not invalidating of confusing anyone
