Being in the Fandom as long as I have, I've noticed that it seems like everyone has a slightly different take on feanor refusing to give the silmarils to yavanna. Alright, here is mine.

I've put forward a lot of criticism of the valar in my time. To be honest, it seems to me that they, like the noldor, fell prey to melkor's whispering - that is the kindest explanation I have for their behavior. I think they are well meaning, but proud and imperial, and to their own detriment. They take authority over issues which I think ought not to have come under their perview.

So. Yavanna asks feanor for the silmarils, so she can bring back the trees and confound melkor's evil. She says that she can otherwise never make such a work ever again; she only had it in her to do it once.

Feanor is silent a little while, thinking.

And tulkas says, and I quote, "speak, o noldo, yea or nay! But who shall deny yavanna? And did not the light of the silmarils come from her work in the beginning?" (Emphasis mine)

Aule, a creator himself who i imagine knows better, tells tulkas to be quiet, that they ask more than they know, and to let feanor think.

A good sentiment, but I think it comes too late.

It's the pride! It's always the pride!! Tulkas says to feanor, who are you, elf, to deny yavanna - a Valar? Further, he positions the silmarils as derivatives of yavanna's work, implying that they're not really feanor's anyway.

Look. I'm an artist. Artists take inspiration from each other all the time. You start out in art classes doing master copies - literally recreating a masterwork beat for beat in order to learn how they did it and apply those lessons to your own work moving forward. You take inspiration from other artists constantly. This is not the same as plagiarism; you are not stealing ideas, you are building off of them, taking them in a new direction, adding your own voice. Art history is a conversation held over millennia.

I don't believe the silmarils would have been hallowed or ever held in such esteem if they were only pale copies of yavanna's work. They were not the trees again. Feanor added himself to the conversation, took her concept, and built something new. His work is still his. He is still the artist.

I think that tulkas' brash speech tipped the scales. Now it is not actually about giving up the silmarils - now it is about feanor's dignity as a person.

Listen to what he says in reply: "for the less even as for the greater there is some deed that he may accomplish but once only; and in that deed his heart shall rest[...] and if I must break [the silmarils] I shall break my heart and I shall be slain; first of all the Eldar in Aman."

And Mandos says, Not the first. Which!!!! Okay. So he already knows that feanor's father is dead, or at least someone is, and he says nothing.

But anyway, my point is that feanor is basically saying here, even if I am not a Vala my work matters. My feelings matter. I do not matter less than you.

I happen to agree with him. But I'll come back to that later.

What feanor says a little later, that if the Valar force him to break the gems he will know they are as melkor is, strikes me as very honest. He cannot do anything to them. He's not threatening anything - except his opinion of them. He's basically daring them to act with decency and prove him wrong, and he's not sure they will. It's very telling to me.

To me the thing about it is that the Valar have lost feanor's faith. Not just him, a lot of people's. And a lot of that is because of melkor. But. How they respond to it matters too. Aule tries, bless him. But there is an imperious quality to a lot of the valar's interactions with elves that I mislike.

When feanor hears of his father's death, he runs into the night because, it says, his father was dearer to him than the light of valinor or the works of his hands.

The silmarils are most important to feanor for what they symbolize, I think. He does not love them more than his father and, I would argue, does not love them more than his sons.

The narration says that if feanor had said yes to the Valar things might have turned out better. How, I ask? What does that mean? The silmarils were already stolen. Do you mean to tell me that the Valar would have journeyed forth at once to cast down melkor, avenge Finwe, protect middle earth, and take back the silmarils - only if the silmarils would then have belonged to them? Feanor holds to his claim of them, so they refrain?

I was raised catholic, same as Tolkien. Unlike him I cast it away as I matured. But I am well familiar with it. I think a central difference between that ideology and mine is the concept of submission to authority. Unquestioning faith. It is domineering and patriarchal; I'm not saying that to bring in buzzwords for "thing I don't like," I quite mean it. Holiness in obedience is an idea that I find extremely disturbing. It lends itself to power imbalances and therefore abuse.

The valar have failed to earn feanor's trust. Some of this is melkor's doing. Much of it is their own. I am not excusing feanor's later actions, mind you. But I think that saying no to the Valar should not be counted among his sins. And I think that the Valar display a clear tendency to punish those who do not obey them; the elves who do not come to valinor, for example, are left to fend for themselves in the darkness. By the time lotr rolls around, the valar have basically created a disease (sea longing) to force elves to sail and punish them for resistance.

Again, I am not trying to excuse feanor for his wrongdoings. He kills people, which is worse than being very proud and a bit domineering. But I just really wanted to call the valar out for their shit.

are your it/its pronouns any different from it/its pronouns for an object? I don't know how to word it sorry, I'm just trying to understand more about other types of pronouns

It’s fine. They aren’t different from an objects it/its to me, because objects & animals & concepts aren’t inherently inferior to humans, so I wouldn’t really mind being in the same group as them conceptually.

It’s a mindset I haven’t fully gotten into but I’m trying to rework the way I see the world, inspired partially by the things I’ve heard native Americans say. Like, I am not better than the food I eat because I’m human. A bear isn’t better than me because they can eat me & kill me. Humans are a part of the earth and would do best to work inside of it and with it than to try to control it or put ourselves on a higher level than it’s other creatures.

I mean clearly we can’t be all that much smarter & more important, what with what we’ve got going on.

But anyway, my pronoun change was at first honestly just the most logical conclusion.

Here’s my train of thought: I didn’t like he or she, Im not a man or a woman. and they/them don’t tell you anything about my gender. If you hear someone call me they/them you aren’t even gonna know I have a weird gender!

Similar to how man and woman are genders, but Non-binary isn’t. Non-binary just describes what you aren’t, its an umbrella term not (inherently) a specific gender. it’s very broad and most nonbinary people I’ve seen & met still identify in parts with man and woman. They/them is so vague that no one would bat an eye if you slipped in a they while describing a cis person who clearly reads as their assigned gender.

And I’m too forgetful & lazy to use neopronouns so, it/it’s was the natural choice. It’s easier to integrate because people already use it/it’s for stuff all the time.

And see, here’s the thing: I have a gender, I’m not vague or in between or a mix. And it’s much closer to like, the idea of a Third Gender. This was something that frustrated me a lot in high school because I would go looking for labels and most of them were about proximity to manhood & womanhood. Or about being agender or neutral. Or about concepts I fully did not relate to. I am not one of those things.

Another issue I had was that a lot of these gender labels had “-gender” at the end which doesn’t make sense to me at all. It’s not mangender and womangender so I didn’t vibe with this naming scheme.

I was also hesitant to use a label a white person made because I’d noticed that white people kind of have a different experience with nonbinary gender than people like me.

Luckily I found the perfect label! Maverique! It had no weird -gender suffix and it was made by a black person who created it online after realizing neutral/agender didn’t fit right.

And yea so it/its is a signifier of me as a third thing. not male, not female, not neutral or in between or lacking gender- just a different kind of person.

And this isn’t even getting into all the ways that I related to monsters in media, which were frequently called by it/it’s pronouns. Or how being abused factors into seeing myself as a non human THING and how embracing that makes me feel much more alive & like a person.

So yea, that’s the run down :)

I'm going to sound absolutely deranged for a moment, by a moment I mean a while because I have a lot to say here. However, I really want to talk about the very nature of reality and virtual reality and what my thoughts on it are; and for the record; provided you're polite about it I will absolutely take asks on the subject because yea I know I sound kind of delusional here but whatever man.

Anyways, absolutely insane rambling below this so here's your dashboard saving "Keep Reading" break.

Okay cool now that all those who are TOO WEAK to handle absolute WALLS of text are gone, only us STRONG enough to survive the winter shall know the truth!

... I jest.

However, if you're here it likely means you actually want to know my thoughts on this shit and honestly that's pretty cool so thank you for that, like really I realize I have no idea who you are and you might be reading this years after I post it (which is an insane concept) but thanks for deeming either this subject or my thoughts interesting enough.

Without further hesitation then, allow me to explain why I think Virtual Reality and Meat Space Reality are literally equals. Yea, you absolutely read that correctly, I believe 100% that things within Virtual Reality (or VR for short obviously) are just as REAL as things within meat space. However before you go clicking off this because that claim sounds insane and stupid to a great many people, please hear me out. You've come this far, may as well right? Sunk cost fallacy and all that.

So here's the thing, in the early to mid 1990's we added the word (or words) "Meat Space" to the dictionary, it's defined as "the physical world and environment especially as contrasted with the virtual world of cyberspace" so right out the gate I think it's important to understand a few things about the way we use language and definitions.

I will not blame you at all for saying "it's semantics dude, no one cares so deeply about definition you're reaching." I get it, but again; stick with me for a bit here.

We clearly differentiate the Virtual World, or Cyberspace from the Physical World, however notice that we're yet to touch on the words Reality and Virtual Reality. We'll get there, but first a slight detour because I want to quickly talk about Cyberspace.

What the fuck IS cyberspace anyways? Well it's anything Virtual, and for the sake of explanation; Virtual is basically anything non-physical, but more specifically things stored, or run by computers.

That means that the Internet itself is Virtual, it belongs to and is in part; cyberspace. I'd make the argument that the Internet itself IS Cyberspace as a whole if our physical Meat Space is encapsulated by the known universe, then the internet is the known universe for anything Virtual/Cyberspace. I hope you're still following me so far because it's about to get a lot worse here in a bit so hang in there.

So let's look at it like this, the internet as a whole is the known universe of anything Virtual or the world we would call Cyberspace. We also know that anything Virtual is simply anything that is stored on, or run by computers; and is not of the physical world.

Does that mean it's not real?

Well what does it mean to be real? This might sound like some kind of deep philosophy question but it's actually not, I mean come on we literally have definitions of this stuff. We know the difference between fiction and non-fiction.

Simply put Fiction has a really weird definition in today's age, because by definition it's just "something that is invented or untrue" so we know it's something that is created and also is not real.

Alright so let's do a quick exercise here right...

I'm going to show you something and I want you to tell me (or really yourself because you know, I'm not actually HERE I'm just leaving these words behind and you're reading them so tell yourself) if this thing/person/character is Real/Non-fiction or Fake/Fiction.

We'll start with an EASY one, this is the cast of the classic anime from the 90's; Cowboy Bebop. So I'm asking you, are these characters real?

Objectively, no. They're fictional. They may resemble real people, they might share qualities that real people have, wear outfits or style their hair like real people. However they actually don't "style their hair" or "wear outfits" they're just drawn characters.

They are voiced by real actors, they are drawn by real artists, and they are ultimately designed by real people. However they themselves are not real. They are entirely fictional entities they do not have free will, a conscious of their own; or whatever you personally believe to be a "soul" whether you're a spiritual person or otherwise you know these things are just depictions of people. They're not alive and they cannot think for themselves.

Alright well then, here's the cast of the tumblr classic meme show Seinfeld, now my wording here might sound like a trick question but I promise you it's not; just hear me out... Are these people real?

Objectively, yes. These are real human actors; sure their characters on the show are not actually real people. They're invented characters sure, but the actual actors playing them are real and we're looking at those people.

Now you might be asking "well hey hold on, you said that Cowboy bebop characters were fake even though they're also voice acted by, drawn by, and designed by real people; so why do you feel like these characters are REAL but those characters are FAKE?"

To answer that, I need you to again realize that my wording was specific, and I didn't intend for it to be a trick question at all. If you had said "no those characters are not real" you're correct, however you need to realize I asked "are these PEOPLE real" the PEOPLE voice acting for, drawing/animating; and ultimately bringing the characters to life in Cowboy Bebop ARE real people, but we're asking about the characters. Likewise the people acting for the characters in Seinfeld are real but the actual characters they're portraying are not.

Alright so we've sort of established a baseline understanding here so far right?

Even if you don't agree with everything I've said I hope you can at least follow my line of thinking here.

A person who exists within Reality is Real. If that person plays a character who is created and untrue then the character is Fictional while the Actor playing them is Real or Nonfiction.

So let me ask a few more questions here; this one is a bit of a curve ball and I don't want you to worry about whether or not you're "right" or "wrong" on this, but I want you to see if you can sort of predict my understanding of this, see things as I do.

Here is a Vtuber, a character played by a human actor who portrays a character on youtube to stream video games and even act in an anime. This character's name is Gura, and she's widely popular within the company of Hololive/Cover amassing well over 1 million subscribers. However, the question we're concerned with here is whether or not Gura is a real person.

Objectively... that's a bit of a toss up isn't it? I mean no, clearly GURA as a character is not actually real. There's no shark girl running around streaming for people from Meat Space. Now yea I know people very rudely went and dug up who actually plays Gura to make a point about her physical appearance and shit; but we're not concerned about that because at the end of the day that's just shitty. What matters to us here is that we understand that Gura is in fact played by a real person. There is a real human being not just voicing Gura, but actively using Gura's virtual flesh (for lack of better words) to portray herself within a stream. That person is real, they exist in Meat Space, and their motions are being mimicked by Gura, but on her own Gura is nothing. Gura is a set of PNGs that overlap in such a way to resemble a person. Everything about Gura's personality, and the reason I mentioned that she has become so wildly popular is because that's all from her Actress. The person actually portraying Gura or rather the person Gura is being controlled by is the individual so many people have found they enjoy watching. She's very human and when she's not playing up a character she's just like any other streamer (and I mean that in a good way). So then where do we exactly put that line between real and fake?

Well here's how I look at this.

With a fictional character who is created to specifically have lines of dialogue in a show, their actor is not actually lending their personality to the character. They simply voice the lines, and I'm not saying that is easy or that it lacks any sense of personality or personal improv. I'm saying that the character is the character, at the end of the day if I'm hired to be a VA (Voice actor) for a character I'm not bringing my personality to this character to the point where any of my friends would hear the character speak and say the things they do or act the way they do and say "that's Cryptid!" They'd likely say "Cryptid voiced this character" but they wouldn't believe the character to BE me. Because while I might be able to insert some of my personality or personal way of speaking into the character's dialogue at the end of the day I'm following a script, the character will always be animated to do what they do; say what they say; be who they are. That doesn't mean I'm not real as the actor behind them; it means they are not real and I am simply a real actor voicing the lines for them. I give them my voice but they are still just a drawing on a screen.

If a fictional character however is used as a sort of virtual flesh for someone to inhabit and present themself through; this is where things sort of blur the line for me. Because while the actress herself isn't actually a shark girl with magic powers or whatever; Gura IS her actress. Slap anyone else into that mass of PNGs and the personality isn't there, suddenly the Gura we have come to know doesn't exist and we're left with this new individual who speaks, acts, and is; different. So Gura can only really exist when she IS her actress. This can be said of any of Hololive or even Holostar's talent.

So then is Gura fictional or non-fiction? She's arguably both. The character of Gawr Gura is fictional, but if we're talking about her personality, or the person representing Gura; well that actress IS non-fiction. She's real.

So let's take this one step further.

Is Gawr Gura simply the Actress in Cyberspace, and is the Actress merely just Gawr Gura in Meat Space?

Just, pause for a second here; stop reading and think about that.

I don't care if you don't know who Gura even is, if you've never seen her streams, if you have no idea what her "real identity" is or any of that; because arguably none of that matters.

If you're having trouble wrapping your head around it, literally think about it as generic people and generic characters. The important reason I used Gura here is because of the situation she finds herself in.

A real human person with free will, conscious thought; representing themselves through a fictional character who lacks all that; but is given life through the human "piloting" their virtual flesh created from a bunch of PNGs overlapping in such a way to give the illusion of a humanoid person.

So now here's the thing that really gets me right...

One last question regarding what's real and what's fiction.

This is a map of the entire internet, every connection; every website being mapped out. Is this real or is this fiction? This is actually really simple but I really want you to think about this; everything you see in this image including the image itself is merely made up of code, of pixels; it's entirely virtual and can only exist within Cyberspace. However, the question we're asking is whether or not this is REAL.

Once again I must say objectively; yes, it's real.

It has to be real, you're using it right now! If the internet was fictional (such as how we show magic in most fantasy settings) we wouldn't be able to use it (just like how I can't cast fireballs.) We're literally accessing the internet right now, so with this in mind; is something that is virtual or digital or that only exists within Cyberspace considered "fictional" or fake?

Well I think personally that there's literally two Realities that are equal but different.

We as people have created a second reality to exist within, we've literally created Cyberspace. It is Virtual REALITY. It's a Reality within a Reality.

To say Virtual Reality is Fictional wouldn't be entirely true, because the people creating it and portraying it and existing within it are all REAL.

"So are you saying that things that happen within Virtual Reality is all real?" I mean... Yes? No? Both? Both. Both is good.

I wish I was better at explaining this shit but try to stick with me on this one because I genuinely have so many thoughts on this.

Let me use the example from last night, my friend Inaki and I played through a world in VRChat in which we were escaping this old lab overrun with zombies. Do I really believe those events were real? Well no, they are virtual, those weren't real zombies obviously; we weren't really at any risk of dying or in any real danger. It was all simulation. However the actions we took were real, my friend Inaki is real; I am real.

I think the thing about it is that everyone judges Virtual Reality by the same set of rules as Meat Space Reality.

In Meat Space we typically define what's Real by the physicality of it, as well as by how our senses interact with it. Can we touch it? Can we see it? Can we feel it and taste it or smell it? If we it interact with all our senses then the thing must be Real right? Well sure within Meat Space, or the physical world that's not a bad judgement of things that aren't sentient. We can judge sentience by free will and basic instincts; an anime character for example is not sentient; they have no base instincts; they have no free will they are simply not alive.

A lot like those virtual zombies, they weren't really living things, all the actions they took were based on code and programming; or you know AI but people hear that word and freak out because they forget that AI has been around for literally like decades and only became a problem in the hands of the wrong people but I digress.

So then if something in Virtual Reality is sentient how do we judge whether or not it's Fiction or Non-Fiction? I'd argue entirely by it's thought processing. For example,

Let's use the example of Inaki and I walking down a dark hallway, our general thought process was to watch each other's backs, we were communicating where we were hearing sounds, where objectives were, what we were finding; when we had cleared objectives; what to be careful of. Our actions were coming from our ability to think through the situation at hand and determine objectively the best path forward.

Meanwhile you have the fictional virtual zombies who are not real people, they are controlled by an AI script that is basically checking off a list of potential situations. It's checking "is there a player here?" if the answer is yes, then it will go to "am I able to get to the player to attack them?" If the answer is yes it will then move to checking the distance between the player and itself and start moving towards the player to attack them. It's all running code, none of this is actual thought; it's just checks. There's no human thought here, there's no real actual free will or sentience behind the actions.

To me this is the defining difference in whether or not an entity within VR is real or not. At least, when it comes to the sentience of it.

So then wait a second; does that mean GURA IS REAL? I mean... kinda yea? It means that if we look at the question again, about what exactly Gura is, we can deduce that yes; Gura is simply the actress within Cyberspace, while the actress is simply Gura in Meat Space.

They are different but they are the same.

I think we view this whole thing way too narrowly by trying to define whether or not Virtual is Fiction or Non-Fiction when I believe Virtual exists as a sort of place between Fiction and Non-Fiction.

Thing of it like this:

To use that zombie world as an example yet again, we can use Virtual Reality as a sort of bridge between the real and the fake.

Obviously a virtual entity cannot effect me in Meat Space, it's non-physical and thus has no control over the physical world, but it can effect Virtual Reality, and since a projection of myself exists there and I can influence Virtual Reality through that projection of myself a virtual entity is able to effect this Cyberspace me with a simulated output being registered that I can perceive in Meat Space.

Basically to boil it all down, what I'm saying here is that Virtual Reality is a Reality of it's own that we can access through things like VR or through The Internet. However it is not bound by the same limitations of our own Reality in Meat Space because it works with a different set of senses and rules.

You can still see and hear things; but the feeling of touch or like smell/taste is absent. That being said, in Meat Space you have limitations based on your body, gravity, various factors brought by things like physics. Where as with Cyberspace we are essentially all given the power of creation at our fingertips.

This is where I'm going to sound absolutely delusional but I've gotten into creating models specifically to be used as avatars, and watching people go through all the rigging all the weight mapping, sculpting and defining these characters. I'm literally watching the birth of a virtual flesh that someone will occupy. It feels like watching some kind of digital god create new life.

However I will stop myself there before people start thinking I'm in need of some kind of medication for my delusional thinking.

I have plenty more thoughts on this subject but I honestly feel like I'd get a lot of hate from a lot of people if I continue to discuss it as intricately as I wish to.

I think the important thing to take away is that yes there is a difference between fiction and reality; and trust me when I say I know that difference well; and have my whole life. However there is a place that exists, that we as human beings created; that somewhat bridges that gap by allowing us to directly interact with a world of our own design in which we are not bound by the limitations of Meat Space. A place that by all definition exists as both Real and Fiction but can be interacted with and experienced in such a way that it is an equal in my eyes to Reality.

We call it Virtual Reality, we do not call it Virtual Fiction, or Virtual Fake Place. The very words Virtual Reality quite literally define themselves in such a fashion of what I'm saying. Virtual Reality is simply:

Virtual ( 1. not physically existing as such but made by software to appear to do so. / 2. carried out, accessed, or stored by means of a computer, especially over a network.)

Reality ( 1.the world or the state of things as they actually exist, as opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of them. / 2. the state or quality of having existence or substance. )

A world that exists, stored on and accessed by a computer over a network.

Virtual Reality is a Reality that is simply digital, not fictional, not fake; not any less than Meat Space.

We created the word Meat Space to serve a purpose, if we believed Virtual Reality and anything digital to simply be fake or less or fiction we'd simply have "The Real World" or "Reality" and "Fictional media" or "digital fiction" or something. Instead we understand Meat Space and Cyberspace or Physical Reality and Virtual Reality; both being their own Reality.

Most iconically Naomi (which honestly slay for her),Pamela kind of , and just as much blaming dean for cas's "downfall", Ishm, Uriel, Hael. Demons knowing abt it.

This is a lovely ask, and I struggled to do it justice all week and I...just can't. So my answer will run the gamut of all the vibes. I hope you don't mind! :D

Biggest giveaway?

Cas's default is -> he's a big dick

The theorem: As Cas is to Sam (read: mean), Cas is to most everyone else.

Support: Cas was by Ishim's definition, "the angel's angel," he exemplified everything warrior-angels should be. In the words of Naomi: "swift, brutal, no hesitation."

Behavior: Sam is Cas's friend, but Cas is also kind of a dick to Sam. He gets annoyed with Sam, even pretty late in the series, especially when Dean's not around (when Dean went to AU world, Cas was abrupt with Sam, rolling his eyes and making lil digs, especially when they're interacting with Gabriel). And well, the crux of my argument is that think that's actually his default with all angels/people.

Dude was stationed with Uriel. At one time, they were the biggest assholes in the garrison, okay?

This default serves to highlight the ones he's gentle with:

The list of the people Cas "babies" is vanishingly small (Dean, Meg, Samandriel, Claire, Hannah, Charlie maybe, Jack, Mary, and eventually Rowena, only occasionally Sam). He's much meaner with his actual friends, and almost all of his close friends are a little mean.

That's my fun answer, anyway. :-D

My serious answer is, however, a little contrarian...I hope you don't mind, but I wanted a little variety today. I'm not gonna support all this with text like I usually do, but it's one of the things I'm going to focus on in my next rewatch. Maybe!

TLDR for below; I don't think a lot of people really knew. We confuse misrepresentative-innuendo and conceptualized-loyalty for “romantic” understanding at our own risk.

I don't think everyone and their mother actually knows that Cas is in romantic love with Dean

Or at least...not in the capacity that certain phrases are emphasized in fanon.

That's not to say I don't think some characters suspect. I do.

But I think some of the soldier-angels shriek moreso over shifting loyalties and perceptions of corruption. They perceive the shifting of Cas's loyalty to the human family as corruption and abandonment.

In fact, I think Cas bedding down with his human family could be a sore spot for the angels in particular; it's like God abandoning them for humans all over again. I'm not so sure they view that abandonment as romantic...only that Dean is the root of the problem.

TLDR; I think most recognize it as devotion, but I don't think it's well-parsed, especially for the soldier-angels. I think their assumptions run the gambit, from fealty to devotion to fanatical, and I can easily, easily see them viewing Cas's allegiance to Jack with the same kind of unhinged grief.

In the world of SPN, I think much of the romantic and sexual needling comes down to warring power dynamics and simple verbal sparring/one-upmanship

Characters will do anything to get the upper hand and feel in control in a dicey situation, and those barbs often come in the form of misrepresenting, diminishing, and disrespecting other characters' relationships, whether those are relationships with their parents, siblings, friends, comrades, or other loved ones.

In SPN, we get numerous equal-opportunity jokes about sexual attractions, incest, love, affection, weakness, etc etc etc.

TLDR; I think the one-off innuendos are often not a real commentary on the truth of any relationship but simply...disrespect.

Some examples to consider:

Balthazar - Often held up as proof that Bal thinks Castiel is "in love with Dean," I don't think Bal's line "The one in the dirty trenchcoat who's in love with you" means much at all. I actually think Balthazar's one of the least cognizant of parsing the complexities and differences between romantic/filial/friendly/etc emotion. (He's also a gloriously morally gray dude, our first meeting with him is him taking possession of a child's soul, after all.)

I mean, sure we got Balthazar saying Cas "is in love with you (Dean)", but we also got him calling Cas Sam's boyfriend. Either my man Balthy does not parse the complexities of relationships, or he's just...simply being disrespectful and diminishing Cas's relationships to his human fam in any way he can. It's about the one-upmanship in the conversing.

I don't see a of of compelling evidence that even angels like Balthazar parse Castiel's emotions on anything more than a superficial level.

Hael - "When Castiel first laid a hand on you, he was lost!" I tend to file this one under assumptions of fealty and mission-oriented devotion. Yes, they fear Dean has a corrupting effect. But you could argue the same about Jack. That when Cas laid a hand on Kelly's stomach, he was lost—became a terrible weapon laid at the feet of the child instead of Heaven.

So, I'm not sure that the desperate bleating of warrior-angels can be conceptualized as romantic. I think it's far more likely to be mission-oriented. They want Cas to have devotion to The Authoritarian Company/War Machine and they perceive Cas's "new" human-oriented locus of morality as Needy Little New Family.

It's the same way authoritarian governments seek to sunder "blue-collar" soldiers from their families, purposely stationing them away from their hometowns so their loyalty is divided and dehumanization of the enemy gets easier, too.

A war machine like Heaven wages an overwhelming, all-encompassing war. The British Men of Letters and Hell are big war systems, too. American hunting is a medium war, their guerilla tactics and case-by-case approach a smaller scale, still. A family is an even littler one. (Kelly Kline's name, in fact, means "little war.")

Crowley - In season 10, we get Crowley needling Cas about burning through his grace to "save his boyfriend," but he also jokingly calls Sam "Dean's wife."

At core, it's disrespectful teasing, seeking to misrepresent, to get a reaction, to have power in the conversation. That's kind of Crowley's MO. Just because Crowley says something sexual doesn't mean we make the assumption that it's true. People that are verbally sparring, and especially men that are in a tense power dynamic, talk like this all the damn time, especially when we're mixing social classes. It can get real crass and real mean...real fast.

It doesn't mean it's meaningless in the context of being revelatory. Crowley and Rowena both desperately want to be included in any social group they can worm their way into, and quite badly, so there's often real emotion hidden within their barbs.

My point is you have to consider the source and speech patterns of that character before taking that ball and runnin' it downfield.

Innuendo, innuendo...

Another example is Zachariah's "erotically codependent line" with regard to his brothers. This barb has the sole purpose of invoking a class stereotype to make Adam lose hope and respect for his "lower class" bros. It's literally the classist "hurp-durp-Alabammer-cousin-fuckers" trope.

I personally tend to take innuendo primarily for what it is: incessant, pathetic barking.

In general, I take the demons' words with a grain of salt. They're always coming from the weak position and always hurling as much innuendo as they can to undermine and disrespect any relationship.

Even the demon Cas sits with in season 14 who says, "How'd you lose Dean? I thought you were joined at the everything," is just a crass attempt to have power when conversing. He could just as easily have made this comment about Jack or Mary or Claire and landed the same with respect to have a tonal upper hand.

Strategically, they don't have to assume Cas is in love to recognize the weakness of caring. They can say anything ugly about any person he appears to care about.

And very generally speaking, innuendo is typically lobbed from a weak/insecure position. The saying goes:

"The louder the bark, the weaker the bite."

Take for example, my man Crowley and my homegirl Rowena--almost always coming at a situation from the weak position. Crowley lobs barbs, innuendo, and faux-affection left and right. (So do other "scrappy" characters, like Dean, Rowena, Bela, every demon, Balthazar, etc)

Generally, we see this speech pattern emerge from Hell-oriented characters, which makes perfect sense, as Hell is the bottom "rung" of society, and Hell-oriented characters and witches often have the weakest social currency. These characters've got the biggest chips on their shoulders!

Mary vs Dean's speech patterns

Despite their similar natures, this is a big, very fascinating personality diff between Mary and Dean Winchester. Mary prefers to attack from the stoic strong position (more like Cas, Sam, etc), and she rarely mouths off. Dean is more drippingly sexual and "mouthy" because he's used to being IN the weak position. (Mary had a stabler homelife, we can suppose, at least when it comes to this.)

"You're the bottom in the relationship!" Crowley barks at Cas in season 6. Meanwhie, Cas isn't even threatened, thinking to himself quietly in TMWWBK, "I was stronger and smarter than him." Not threatened in the slightest. It bites Crowley in the ass eventually too, "You like to bend 'em over quick, don't you?" he laments at the beginning of season 7.

Likewise, Cas too gets more verbal when he's coming from the weak position with other angels. Take for example Michael in season 15, "In the worlds of a friend, you had a whole oak tree shoved up your ass." Cas rarely engages in this kind of false bravado, preferring to keep his aces up his sleeve. But with Michael, he is definitely coming from a strategical weak position with a goal in mind: goading Michael to act.

Goaders and Goad-ees

There are exceptions to the rule, like when you get sadists such as Alistair, Lucifer into the mix. I think more often than not, the goaders and the goad-ees reveal structural weak-strong dynamics.

I'd even argue that Lucifer's volatility keeps him in an emotionally vulnerable position in perpetuity. He's almost always trying to get reactions from those around him because he "needs love, he had a jakced childhood." We see this with Cas, and the effectiveness of his gray-rocking with Lucy. In season 12, getting a reaction from Cas becomes a stand-in for getting a reaction from Chuck.

So, that's my opinion.

I think most of the screeching and barbs are mostly power dynamics in action, not proof of knowledge per se and certainly not proof of understanding the nature of how deep Cas's feelings go

Are there exceptions? Sure.

A few of them, like Anna and Samandriel and Hannah, seem aware of Castiel's "too much heart" but I'm not super convinced that they conceptualized this as being about Dean in particular so much as about being who Cas is as a person with respect to his past rebellions.

Uriel knew something was up, I think, but it's hard to tell if his needling was more disrespectful like Balthazar's or not.

Naomi knew something was different for sure. Interestingly, she seemed aware of both Dean's and Cas's feelings, which makes sense as her work is in intel.

On that note, I think it’s interesting that the ones who truly conceptualize Cas's feelings tend to also recognize Dean's. Very few truly "knowledgeable" characters see one side in a vacuum.

I'm not sure that Ishim contextualized love outside of obsession, but he was jealous and seemed particularly jealous that Dean appeared to return the feelings, "That's what I thought." implies that.

I think of all the characters, Lucifer knew. He's got one of the higest cognitive empathies in the show. He knows it so well, he doesn't even need to resort to innuendo to tease them about it. (See the simple, effective: "CAS!") Same with AU Michael. Like Naomi, they seem to know and acknowledge both sets of feelings.

Close family and friends

Beyond the scope of this, but I think a lot of the fam n' friends knew what was up to some degree, but that didn't typically come out in the form of disrespect or teasing once they knew about it for real, especially characters like Bobby, Mary, etc. Eventually Rowena, Crowley, Ketch etc probably could tell something was up.

Now, are soldier-to-soldier relationships life-of-death kinda intense? Yes. Because of this, I think some neurodivergent characters that are more "cerebral" when it come to emotions (*cough* Sam) could be a little slow on the uptake. :-)

ok first Yes there's lore. there's like. the backdrop premise of rick having just came back into his daughter's life after being absent since she was a child for undisclosed reasons but it is a big part of beth's characterization and why he gets away w all the shit he gets away with. but there's also Lore that ties w rick's crybaby backstory™ and like the universe in general is probably more. Complicated? Expanded? than you'd think? bc yea it SHOULD be episodic and self contained but the team is at war w that concept since s2 if not s1 already. it's why i'm annoyed at people complaining abt the random filler episodes in s7 like girl that's the Normal Episodes. the Lore Heavy Episodes are the little special treat for you not the standard?? it's a sitcom unfort.

so. maybe still my favorite episode is STILL from s1 ep8. rixty minutes aka interdimensional cable ONE!!! let me set the scene. a few episodes earlier morty's school was doing prom and he asked rick to make him a love potion to get the girl he has a crush on to go to prom w him. rick fucks up SEVERELY bc his nihilistic scientist brain didn't understand love (??? i mean we know he Does. but it was s1) and he accidentally turns everyone first into morty stans who wont him desperately and then into straight up Monsters. he can't figure out how to fix it so what he does instead is move morty and himself into a new dimension where the incident had also happened but that dimension's rick had fixed the problem And gotten himself and morty killed accidentally. so they swoop in and dig a grave for Themselves and take those rick and morty's place. for rick it's Nothing it's Normal he's been doing this a while he's closely aware of the many dimensions and many versions of himself etc in fact it becomes a Huge plotpoint soon. but morty's still new to this and having to? handle his dead body? and put it in the ground? and take its place like nothing happened? that's tough for him! baby's traumatized. rip

but everything's been self contained enough so far that you sort of dismiss it right. then two episodes later interdimensional cable happens. aka rick fucks around w their tv to hook it up to. interdimensional. cable. so they can watch stuff from every other reality out there (whoa!) and as they binge they bump into jerry being interviewed on some late night show and they're like HUH???? THERE'S A VERSION OF REALITY OUT THERE WHERE JERRY'S RICH AND FAMOUS???? so now beth and summer are also wondering what They're up to in other realities and rick gives them some goggles that let you see what different versions of you are doing. rick himself and morty are the only ones who don't care and just keep watching silly tv having a laff. in the meanwhile summer complains that every version of her is doing nothing cool while her parents are hitting the jackpot and beth offhandedly mentions that "if we accomplished our dreams it probably means you were never born" which is obviously HORRIBLE TO HEAR so summer being an angsty dramatic teen wants to Run Away From Home and beth and jerry start fighting abt how you ruined my life and all. morty smells blood in the water so he goes upstairs to cheer up summer and she's like. they had you on purpose as a symptom of their problems you're not the Cause of their problems you can't make me feel better. so morty points out his and rick's graves in the yard outside the window and tells her he's not even her real brother he's as much of an incident as she is rn and now that he eats breakfast a few feet away from his corpse he knows better than most how meaningless all of this is anyway. and he tells her. something that still brings tears to my eyes. he goes "nobody exists on purpose, nobody belongs anywhere, everybody's gonna die. come watch tv?"

ARGH! HE'S JUST A 14 YEAR OLD BOY WITH AN INSANE MAD SCIENTIST GRANDPA WHO'S BEEN DRAGGING HIM ON FUCKED UP ELDRITCH SPACE ADVENTURES THAT HAVE BEEN SHATTERING HIS INNOCENCE AND UNDERSTANDING OF LIFE! This is a very good question though, because I can see it going in a few different ways. Let me see if I can sort them out coherently (no promises)

Discovering a borrower in his house would be alarming. Not only because holy shit a tiny person , but also because of his line of work. Who knows who this person is or if they're working for anyone.

I can imagine Luciel and the borrower holding eye contact for an extended period of time, both either running through what they could do about this situation in their heads or their minds going completely blank. As the trope goes, the tiny would make the first move. Trying to run, using the mess that is 707's house to make their escape, but unfortunately the redhead would be more than capable of cornering them and/or grabbing them in his hands.

Holding this person in an iron-fist, he'd probably look the borrower over inquisitively, trying to sus them out.. but, assuming they(or, I suppose, you in this case) are innocent, he wouldn't be able to find anything suspicious.

This would call for heavy silence, the borrower frozen in fear or struggling, and Seven keeping a firm grip while waiting for them (and himself) to calm down.

Then you'd get a very awkward conversational exchange, introducing names, asking what the borrower is doing there.. but if they plan to stay, Seven would either set down ground rules or completely deny them (he can't risk anything regarding his work getting out, even if you do seem innocent).

Regardless, there's potential for them(or the both of you) to bond, it would just take time! And I can easily see angst in the future of this concept too.

Ok so I scroll down on your account and read from the last thing I liked on your blog each day, so apologies if someone already said this, I haven't caught up yet and I'll forget if I don't write this down.

Also, Sorry if I just took what you and the asker was saying and just reworded it, I'm tired and I barely comprehended what was being said.

ANYWAYS

So referring to this ask, I thought, "What if Warren was a part of the love cu- *ahem* "club" for a long while and had a sort of mission to go recruit some other people."

He stumbles across Lily and Todney and thinks "Well, this is good enough", and starts interacting with them so he can uh... "smoothly" slide in the question of them joining. This takes a few days, so they all bond and get to know their stories and such. Once Warren asks the big question, they have no idea what they are getting themselves into, but they heard "love" and "family", so they're all in.

Warren grows to actually like them and enjoys their company. He learns of their home situation and is... frankly a little concerned. But he's gotta focus on bringing them to Shrigs and Malcolm.

Once he brings them over, him and Shrigs talks about initiation and celebrating and stuff while Lily and Todney become fast friends with SO.

I'm getting lazy on ideas so stuff happens, Warren ends up finding out about the marriage thing, thinks "this whole situation is NOT very cash-money", and just bails with all three of the kids.

For some extra spice, I'd like to think that Shrigs is basically hunting them down to 1) Find his daughter and 2) to kill Warren for taking his sorta child away with no warning. I'd like to think that on that journey, Shrigs thinks a whole lot about SO and it kinda sinks in for him like, "damn, I care about this kid more than I thought" (like, in a father/ daughter type way) and he reflects on what he's noticed with SO and how she must be feeling and starts to actually question Malcolm.

For some MORE spice, the twins family is after them too, not out of much care or concern, but because they need the twins to find new mothers in order to get the family discount. So if they get their hands on the twins... they'll probably not be able to leave the house to get new mothers ever again. And they will kill Warren, like, for real. No hesitation.

So yea all four of them are on the run.

Then Shrigs could find them all, have a talk with SO, everyone makes up, blah blah blah, then the twins family shows up and it's like a final showdown. I'd honestly think that Warren and Shrigs would put up somewhat of a fight, but then Shrigs gets hurt real bad or something and they all just flee.

They're all just sorta... constantly on the run for a while, since Shrigs is having a hard time dealing with all of these emotions about Malcolm and he feels like he is unworthy of going back, Warren doesn't have an actual place to stay, and the kids have nowhere to go.

Eventually they do live somewhere but man I'm just here for the angst and redemption arks, I'm not good with coming up with happy endings, y'all gotta do that for yourselves XD

But anyways I'm so sorry this is loooooong.

(Idk where to put this but I HC that Shrigs is homophobic, but because he's just uneducated, not out of pure hatred. When he gets use to it and learns about the LGBTQIA+ community, then he'll be either and ally or he'll realize he's actually pan.

Also In that whole story, I saw Warren as a teenager (around 15-17 idk), not an adult. And idk about Shrigs but he's pretty young too, probably 19-21ish. Maybe a little bit older.

And this wasn't suppose to be a ship thing with any of the characters mentioned!)

Tangle and Espia together is so sweet and cute and i love the idea of Tangle getting overwhelmed by culture shock! plus i still loved the thread where she got Espia to help her dress in a kimono! wonderful stuff!

Tangle x Vex, while i feel this ship is very shitposty at times i can't deny i love the dynamic of Vex (@greedandrebel) and those fun loving moments they have. I could see Vex and Tangle being pretty close despite one having very sticky fingers. Whats with me and shipping tangle with bad girls?

Tangle x Amy, This was a fun ship which i think mostly done on discord but imma list it! @freedomgals and i did a short lived ship of Amy and Tangle, which was a really fun and though we don't mention it to often i feel like i need to! I enjoyed there dynamic as Amy was there in a bad time for Tangle, dealing with her injuries from mimic. It was a really natural progression and never felt forced which i loved! stull adore these two!

Just been thinking about how the story really does ultimately start with Zenny's final bit of their arc timeline wise. Prehardlight incident they escape years worth of abuse from their father then was able to form an unbreakable bond with Emi after coming out to them without a single word, then inconvenient timing comes in and wrecks their plan to fully transition by giving them a corporeal form that changes at a slight self conscious thought.

I do want to emphasize how transitioning really does take time, I guess that's why I want to interweave Rosa and Pumpkin's story into this so that as Zenny takes slow but gradual steps to be their better self that we get sweet yuri goodness in between those moments.

Still doesn't help how my main cast is basically all girls lol, it's not like I need to make male characters but at the same time I do need side characters. That and I might as well make that Zenny's bully idea into a pricticious side dude.

Oh yeah, story telling wise: the story starts with Pumpkin's perspective after waking up from a weird dream but you're not shown her dream but a dark rubble filled screen with Emi's muffled screaming searching for Zenny, it needs to stay muffled and really hard to make out all to make it a neat little foreshadow of the Hardlight Incident.

I never really gave Pumpkin a solid story ground aside from her frantic gay panics and her working at her grandma's cafe. I've been thinking of making her a battle artist of sorts, a magic battle artist. The concept is basically fancy fighting for show, that way it works with Pumpkin's shy (I think it's shy at least, it's that bashful reluctantly not drinking at the party then minutes later is the most wasted person kinda deal, a hesitant kind of personality but isn't afraid of doing it anyways) personality and her magic handicap.

I guess in a way I did want Pumpkin to be bullied in a really weird way? Wait no it's alienation, it's the fact that she needs a elemental gemstone to help stabilize her magic. And in this world, even though magic has taken a slight back seat in the modern age of technology, there are still parts of the world that are slightly outdated in their ways so they would often be boastful of how pure their magic is.

Did I ever talk about that great mages concept here?

Essentially it makes it so that elemental gemstones become the world's main source of energy but before the industrialization there were temples across the world of each element. 4 major ones and one that's buried deep. Each temple housed a great mage of each of the respective elements including the light element, but then all 4 of the great mages feared the light element at how almost impervious the element is so they collectively banished it and killed light magic as a whole.

That bulk of lore was essentially how Emi was able to rediscover the light element through odd elemental casting notes and elemental gemstone notes.

And I'm thinking that Emi, Zenny and Luna rediscovers the light temple to see if they can turn Zenny back.

Though I wanna make it so that at this point in the story, Zenny's content with staying how they are now. They just want to shed light to an unfairly restructure of history and push forward light element tech.

There's also a plot line here where each great mages has an apprentice, and the light great mage knew their time was limited so they told their apprentice to run away before the other great mages get them. Which then lead the apprentice to develop the very spell that helped them to alter their form with light magic, a one way magic transformation.

Oh my god this could lead into myths of a light spirit in the deep forest near where the buried light temple is. Which said light spirit is the original light element apprentice in a drastically altered primal owl form.

Hm it does break into a lot of story beats that I need to write more about later.

Yeah I just need to write a lore bible lol.

What I have in mind right now is that the main crew finds relics and artifacts from the light temple that helps them reach out to the primal light owl or understand leftover notes of the light elemental apprentice. It honestly might be better if that owl was the apprentice's pet of sorts. That said owl would appear in random forest backgrounds where it involves Zenny, and the light owl has a big liking to Zenny for being really similar to the apprentice and a light being themselves.

If anything it helps set in stone how old the temples are where everyone from that age is basically dead. Except the light elemental apprentice, the idea rn is they're basically the opposite of Zenny form wise, that despite being able to create light creatures they failed at turning themselves into a light being. And failing such spell has essentially killed their identity. What Zenny had accidentally become was what the apprentice tried to do.

Oh wow I could make it so that the apprentice losing their mage because of the fear of their magic potential mirroring people fearing trans people because of the fear of breaking down the stupid pillars of gender norms. So In turn losing the last person that the apprentice could've confined in had left them isolated by society. That loneliness drove them to advance light magic faster than the other elements but at the cost of also burdening the advancement with the intent of vengeance.

Light magic takes hold of the caster's psyche, the clearer the mind the more powerful the spell will be.

It can also be wielded creatively but that's the case for all of the elements.

So when the apprentice casted the form change spell on themselves, they made sure they were inside the ruined light temple. The spell only failed for them because their mind was tainted by revenge. Resulting in creating a vengeful light spirit instead.

And the idea I wanna run with this is that Zenny faces the light spirit by essentially keeping it into a Steven Universe fusion stasis.

What that means is that Zenny has a conversation with the leftover feelings of the light elemental apprentice by fusing with the spirit instead of fighting it. And what I meant by fusion stasis is that they just become a ball of light that basically went by in a flash for the other people in the room but was a whole ass neon genesis final few episode kind of deal for Zenny and the spirit.

The key part of this thing being a spirit is to firmly state that Zenny chose to stay the way they are, during that conversation with the spirit, they offered Zenny a way to change back but Zenny chooses not to.

Now that I'm thinking about it, this is the same kind of deal the mc from Boku Girl had between being a guy or a girl at the end of that manga. The main nitpicks I had with that manga was how it doesn't explore fully the mc's perspective enough and how it links gender identity with sexual orientation. Like there are parts in the story where the main mc changes back into a guy when they're having feelings for their girl friend crush but then changes back to a girl when they're having feelings for their guy childhood friend.

So when it comes to the final arc to Zenny's character development, I want to write something like what Boku Girl tried to do but firmly disconnect that link between gender identity and orientation. Basically making it so that Zenny turns into a girl when they're feeling feels around Luna is my end goal :p

there's stuff like abuse and power dynamics that i'd love if people treated with care, like when deciding how to portay it, but even with those it's like, i don't believe viewing a fucked up dynamic through rose-colored glasses is harmful in itself... or that it can't be very touching art if it's not spelled out clearly that this is an unhealthy unbalanced relationship, and for survivors especially or people who are intimately familiar with fucked up, i think.. what am i saying. i KNOW the ""romanticization"" angle can affect survivors deeply, in a catharsis way and not a re-traumatized way i mean hxsgcy so that has real merit in fiction in my opinion

you know how they say great art disturbs the comfortable and comforts the disturbed or smth like that? i know it's hard and sticking by your own moral code (that might go against social norms) has to be learned and practiced, and the backlash that comes with challenging taboos is never exactly a walk on the beach but i encourage you to go for it and try to forget about what certain people will think! there will be stupid malicious interpretations always but you're not writing for those people, you're writing for the people that Do get it!! who will get it, when they read it, for those that see you and understand

I love all the talk so far. but I will say re: inspiring to the point of creation, I think it's true that doesn't happen with 4th gen, but also, the example used, a show like Running Girls I think was rare in its conception anyways. I went into that for Chuu but found out soon enough that the show very much hinged on casting sunmi and hani and that was obvious even when watching it biased for neither of them. they took on roles sort of implicitly assigned to them (mom/dad, which. I have so many thoughts about) and it seems both were chosen even before the whole thing was fleshed out. the producer confirmed as much herself, like I'm not sure the show would have come to be if they couldn't get these two on board. I think that's rare for 2nd gen too. I feel like that was just a case of a PD knowing exactly what they want and having done their homework on exactly who is gonna achieve it for them. I don't know. Is that common in earlier gens?

tbh i'm not the best person ask bc in truth i don't watch a ton of variety content. but yea it is rare for a singular idol to be the inspiration point for a show and it seems to be relatively new? the two that i mentioned previously at least are and i guess running girls counts as well since it came out in 2020. but there were definitely shows created specifically for idols during second gen, hello baby, namely. moreso i think the underlying point is that these idols have been able to establish a known character so that pds do actually know enough about them to come up with an idea. and since this whole singular inspiration trend seems to be delayed (as in the idols have had time to be on shows), it could be likely that in five+ years there will be the same type of shows for fourth gen idols

here's a fun story from 9th grade that's probably gonna be one of my most treasured memories from my high school years ever: so me and like half of my class were brought to a STEM research showcase held by one of our neighbor schools and as science high school students, we were expected to be um well behaved student-researchers that were REALLY interested in research and for the most part yea we were legitimately really interested in the research projects heck we had a shit ton of questions prepared for many of the presenters and we took pictures of everything (the sci high school i went to somehow made us all interested in STEM research (probably through brainwashing ngl /hj) and it's a blessing and a curse) BUT what really caught our attention was the school's playground soooo like the Model Student Researchers that we are, once the seminar was done and once our teachers were out of sight, we did what any normal Model Student Researcher would do: RACE EACH OTHER TO THE GRADE SCHOOL KIDS' PLAYGROUND AND GO BATSHIT OVER THE SWINGS, MONKEY BARS, SLIDES AND SEESAWS.

once again, we were student researchers from a very reputable science high school and we basically um stole the grade school kids' playground from the grade schoolers. i believe it was the grade schoolers' recess at the time but since THEIR playground was already occupied ummmm some just sat there with their very confused and intrigued teachers and watched curiously as 9th grade student-researchers from a different school suddenly turned into motherfucking preschoolers while playing with the swing sets and the seesaws and the monkey bars and um yea kids THAT'S how you properly ruin a science high school's reputation gjdjd

All jokes aside, to this day I still find the story very heartwarming because dudes the sci high school's workload, especially when it came to STEM research, is so fucking insane to the point that most of us would have to pull off an allnighter at least twice a week. We were 14-15 year olds already hard focused on becoming the next i dunno Albert fucking Einstein simply because that's what the school wanted us to be. So I dunno, maybe us racing each other to the playground as soon as the seminar ended and us loudly laughing and squealing over the grade schoolers' playground was us allowing ourselves to put our guards down, forget whatever research bullshit that we'd have to submit by the end of the day, and just be normal kids for once. We probably made ourselves look like obnoxious childish idiots but hey, at least we felt young again.

things just fly on from there

like zooM up the clouds

he'd summon when you're alone most of the time

Like a walking home from school or going to a convenience store

He was like a silent angel following you around and keeping you safe (*˘︶˘*)

it was cute indeed

he was like a cloud :] floating around with you :]

you'd hear him in your head when you're doing something sometimes

Like in school, you're doodling and the teacher catches you

"y/n, what's the 17th element in the periodic table?"

"uhHHHHhhhh—"

"cmon, spit it out, since you were so focussed in that art book of yours."

Now you're screwed.

suddenly this voice invades in your mind, speaking to you "chlorine, you idiot"

and then you blurt it out and WOOOOOOOOO it's correct

vdidgdidhdBDJDG but yeah, jaemin also never showed himself visibly unless he was sure you were alone to hang out with and no one would pop out

so it was pretty rare when you saw his physical form

you were sitting on your rooftop, it was the very raw moments of the night

Everyone in your neighborhood was asleep, and you were sitting there, feeling the night wind and the lights of the city when you felt some sort of particles moving to something beside you

You look over to see jaemin pop out of a black hole of darkness

the particles and the dust in the night took form of his sharp features as they sculpted into him

his eyes were closed, so when he was finally present and next to you, he opened his eyes

they were way more prettier in the night compared to when you first saw him

you barely saw him smile too, since he always said it was "tiring" like okay dark much?

he licked his lips and the corner of his lips tugged into a smile

"why hello there"

you'd chuckle at him, his pasty pale skin was glowing in the moonlight

"what are you doing here, jaem?"

"I saw you alone and decided to finally summon."

you only stared at the sky

"aren't you supposed to be in the underworld at night?"

"I have the ability to sneak out, y/n."

that's probably when it hit you

Why would someone, or something so powerful as him, take time out of his godly life to follow you and stay with you, a pitiful mortal?

it didn't make sense

why would someone so capable of anything like him do that for you?

you only?

"jaem?"

"yeah?"

"am I someone special to you?"

he was caught out of the blue

"um, what do you mean by that?"

now HE knew that YOU knew

And now he didn't PREPARE A LOVE CONFESSION SPEECH

If he was being honest, he just wanted to be friends

But staying with you, following your daily routine, keeping an eye on you, it made him so invested in your life

he couldn't help but fall in love with you and your habits

he loved to be with you, even if it was rare to hold your hand and even if it was hard for him to hide away

He'd risk it and now

HE HAS TO SAY IT ALL TO YOU

he didn't notice you staring at him with a soft smile

"jaemin? Do you like me?"

"of course I do!" he licked his lips, "that's why I hang out with you, fool."

"yeah," you rolled your eyes, scoffing, "I mean, do you like like me?"

you narrowed your eyes, a stupid smirk on your lips as you inched closer to his face

now you're flustering a fucking god damn y/n????

his skin turned a shade of soft pink as he was interrupted by a series of coughs

"you're so funny, y/n"

but you're not dumb

"shut up, jaem, you have a crush on me, admit it."

"no I don't! I'm not human, we don't have feelings."

"then why are we buddies?"

"uh—"

"aha!" You pointed at him, triumphant, "I knew it!"

he found you so cute when you knew, and most of all he was just HAPPY THAT YOU DONT HATE HIM FOR IT

naturally, his icy cold fingers slid in yours when you smiled so big

he just loved it when you do that, his hands just automatically reach for yours

you felt the familiar cold spread through your bones, but it soon turned warm as it roamed your skin

"you know why I like your hands?" he hummed as he inched closer, placing his head on your shoulder, "They're really warm, they feel safe"

"it must be cold wherever you go"

"yeah, it is."

he turned around to look up at you with his glittering eyes

Damn homeboi's in love

"do you like me too?"

"of course, you idiot," you sigh, placing your head on his too, "That's why we're friends, aren't we?"

"friends..."

now you BOTH knew what he was thinking

OOOO LA LAAAAAAA

you both look at each other, blushing like nuts

"do you wanna be more than,,,, uh,,,, people who just meet normally platonically?"

"Jaemin!" You push him a bit, smiling like crazy, "Humans don't say it like that!"

"I don't know, I'm not a human, y/n!"

"we say, 'do you wanna date me'"

"ah, yes, wAIT WHAT!?"

that's when you just attack his lips with your own

AND WHEN I TELL YOU, ICE PRINCE MELTS

lmfao I'm so funny

if your hands were enough to warm him up, then your kiss is gonna make him EVAPORATE BITCG

because even though his lips were rather cold and tasted like sour pomegranates, he could feel your warmth nip at his skin

a thing he could do, too, was sense how much life was left in someone or something

and he could feel how full of happiness you were with that one kiss

your entire fate flashed in front of his eyes when you held close to him like that

he watched everything with that one kiss, your marriage, your first love, your family, even your death

it was sad okay he started crying when you tore your lips away

He held on you close after that, just giving you a soft hug

he felt safe and coldish, like snow under sunlight

he smelt something like dew and dust

it was strange

it was also a very heart warming thing when you heard him sniffle a bit against your shoulder

CUT! that's it okay I'm sorry this got depressive ;-;

Bruh please this was sad

I listened to rainbow while writing the ending scene IM SO SORRY

This wasn't supposed to even exist LMFAO I just made it up as I got emo-ier
