A Tear's Soul
Part 1: All is certainly well in this fine world
Mimosa barely had the time to register what was happening before he was warped elsewhere by his happy-go-lucky friend.
He was used to Lint’s instantaneous portals with how often he had been ambushed but the sensation never failed to be truly bizarre.
It felt like dipping your toes in lukewarm water then suddenly you were drenched and dry at the same time. And in a random place you did not ask to go.
The instant the shock runned out of his system, Mimosa whirled around and hit Lint’s head with the side of his hand.
“LINT, COME ON! Couldn’t this at least wait after breakfast? I’m hungry…”
Lint’s only reaction was to giggle so hard she toppled down on the wooden floor.
“Where would be the fun in that? If you really wanted that breakfast, you should have woken up earlier!”
“...You would just have come even earlier if I did that, wouldn’t you?”
She smiled and stood up, whistling and buzzing around.
The kid sighed and started looking around.
Where were they?
The floor was wooden and a little dusty, the walls were pretty bare except for some weird unrecognizable knick-knacks on shelves. The room was small.
“Whom closet did you zap us in?”
Lint tsked and wiggled her finger in front of his face.
“You’re really”, she pointed to a big dent in a wall, “not a good detective, uh?”
Mimosa stared hard at the dent. It looked a bit like a puppy’s face? It reminded him of when they played hide-and-seek with Mu’s at her second home and he just rammed his elbow so hard into a wall it damaged the wall. It didn't hurt but it left its mark on the house.
Wait.
He gasped at the realization.
“SINCE WHEN CAN YOU POP DIRECTLY INTO TODDH’S POCKET DIMENSION?!! I thought you couldn’t go farther than the entrance?”
He shook his friend hard in his barely contained excitation.
They were at Mu’s!!!
“Well, it took me a few tries. I’m not sure I’m welcome alone here anymore by the way?”
“Why did you teleport us here? I thought you’d wanted to go exploring or somethin?”
“...You told me you missed Mu and she wouldn’t come back for at least another week sooo.”
Mimosa hugged her. He did indeed miss his younger sister but he didn’t think it was that obvious.
“Eh, couldn’t have my best friend slash “half-brother-from-another-multiverse” mopping, now?”
He buried his head into her shoulder while she rubbed his back.
“We should get out of this closet and go look for your little princess, don’t you think?”
He nodded and pushed away the other to get to the door handle. He didn’t get that far as the girl shoved him away and opened the door first.
She runned out all while shouting:
“THE LAST ONE TO FIND HER IS WET NOODLE!”
And as he, for sure, didn’t want to be a wet noodle, the boy dashed at his turn and they raced through the long corridor, crashing into furniture and laughing their heads off.
Sadly, he tripped on one of his treacherous tentacles (a fairly common occurrence) and tumbled down quite fast with a yelp. His “friend” just snickered at his misfortune and disappeared behind a corner.
Aw, he didn’t want to be the wet noodle…
He plopped down against the floor, starfish-style, and examined his surroundings. He was still in a corridor. That house had too much of those.
He craned his skull around to examine the few doors he could see from this angle.
Among the very unremarkable doors, one stood out. It was white with flowers painted all over it. The skill of the painting varied a lot and those near the bottom were merely child scribbles.
The skeleton propped himself on his elbows and stared at the door, right-sided.
It was Mu’s room.
Maybe the pasta fate would not befall on him in the end?
The slats creaked despite his best attempts to be sneaky and he cracked the door open a smidge before peeking inside.
A small skeleton was sitting there, playing on the ground with a hoop. Quiet, she was making it roll harshly against the floor until it hit the wall and got launched back at her. She then caught it with the tentacle wrapped cozily around her throat and shoulders and began the process anew.
There she was.
He readied himself to call her when a weight on his head startled him.
“FOUND HER! I WON!”, shouted Lint from above.
How did she even do that, she was slightly smaller than him! That thought was one of the many that went through his mind as she leaped over leaning on his shoulders.
Back to the ground.
Mu looked at them for a second, nodded, then went back to her game, unbothered.
Lint danced, chanting “wet noodle, wet noodle”, looking rather pleased.
He weakly protested that he found her first to which he got the counter argument; he didn't announce it first so that was null and void.
Fair.
They spent some time together, each doing their very own stuff.
Lint was trying to improve her cartwheels (with various success) all while chittering about some story he half-listened to, she tried to coax them into leaving for an adventure a few times but didn’t insist for once so she kept doing clumsy cartwheels.
Mu continued her game, focused on it, Mimosa ignored the action's goal but she was fully entranced by it (despite glancing in his direction a few times, probably wondering about what he was doing).
He was cutting paper shapes with scissors and gluing those to pins he found in a box.
Once he was satisfied with the amount of paper shapes, he tapped gently on Mu’s shoulder to get her attention. She turned around and tilted her head before eyeing a notebook laying on the ground next to her.
“You don’t have to use your book if you don’t feel like it, I won’t ask complex questions.”
His mute sister nodded and gave him her whole attention.
He pointed at his work.
“Would you like it if I put some of these on your hat to keep company to your flower pin?”
Her eyelights grew two sizes before he even finished his sentence, she stuck her hands in the pockets on each extremity of the drooping bunny ears of her dark colored hat and excitedly moved up her arms, showing the paws design sewed on that side of the pockets.
“I’ll take that for a yes!”
Mu nodded so hard her hat would have flipped away if her hands weren’t still stuffed in.
He pointed to the paper shapes and asked her to point to the ones she’d like most.
She didn’t hesitate and picked anything vaguely flower shaped plus one that looked like a lemon (or an eye?). When he interrogated her on that choice, she just uncurled her tentacle, revealing the rest of her face and smiled.
“Ok, ok, sit there and don’t move.”
He started to stick the paper bits as carefully as he could and Lint joined him on the task soon after.
They did that for a moment, he had to stop Mu from wiggling too much a few times as she grew impatient and excited.
Once they were done and confident it would hold for long enough to be satisfying, they released the small monster and she all but ran to the mirror.
Watching her twirl around in joy released a special wave of warmth in his soul. Those moments reminded him how lucky he was to still have her, how lucky he was that Fancy and the one before him found her when she had been lost and how lucky they had been to be reunited during an unplanned playtrip.
He saw Lint watching him thoughtful in the corner of his eyes but he didn’t call her out on that.
However, when she turned her gaze back toward the mirror anew and her eyelights shrieked to almost pinpoints.
Uh?
He turned his head to discover an absence of any twirling sister and shot up.
“Where?”
Something poked his shoulder.
Lint was in front of him.
He turned around.
Nothing.
Lint was glaring at random corners.
Poc.
He looked to his left then more thoroughly to his right.
Then he was promptly yoinked from the ground by something above.
“AH-”
A hand stopped his shout and he looked at his aggressor’s face.
…Nip.
The dark-boned-mixed-rabbit-skeleton grinned at him and made a sign to keep quiet. He reluctantly nodded and fred his mouth.
Nipal was a strange fellow that liked far too much scaring others in his opinion, but it came with the fact he had been born from a bad dream he guessed.
Other than that, he was pretty okay.
And also holding him with a leg while crouched on all four on the ceiling.
Nip giggled silently and he watched Lint getting more and more agitated on the ground.
She was looking everywhere for them and despite glancing up a few times, Nip always moved just in time to hide from her sight.
The demon was talented in this stuff.
Nip moved towards a wall and put him on the top of a closet using only one floating hand. Mu was already waiting there and looked absolutely giddy at the event.
Nip went back to tormenting Lint and one of the puffy ends of his bunny ears almost smacked him when he turned.
Hm. Mimosa got himself comfy to admire the chaos.
He shrugged.
That might as well happen.
Nip played for another five minutes at pocking the distraught girl running around on the floor before leaping behind her, shifting his form to a huge furry rabbit monster and caught her from behind in a hug.
Lint screamed bloody murder and Mu drew a line in her notebook. He peeked at the page… 15 was scribbled next to a vaguely bunny shaped scribble and a bit fat zero next to three bows. It looked like she had been keeping score.
He giggled. Hopefully Lint won’t see that.
This one was now hitting and biting the smug adult -to be confirmed, Nip always lied when they asked his age.
After a bit of shifting and a whole lot of being picked up and scaling things for no reason, they all finally ended up all sitting in the center of the room.
Nipal Twees, once again in his more regular shape, clapped his hands together.
“That was amusing, how are you guys doing?”
He did not wait for their answer as he wiggled his left ear, distracting little Mu that was sitting on his lap.
“Now, kids, Toddh went out to get Fancy. Boy is taking a bit long to bring back groceries.”
Where was he going with that?
“...Kitchen’s free, who wanna bake? Badly of course!”
They answered their agreement, loudly.
What a good idea, he was famished.
And like that, they made a beeline for the kitchen and promptly started to try baking… something…
They didn’t have any recipe and Fancy’s cookbook was creepy so they boycotted that idea.
Each busied themselves with a task they thought would help making… something?
The result was barely palatable and the kitchen was very close to what someone would consider “ruined”.
He would not talk about the general state of their outfits. The aprons they put on had been near useless in keeping the mess at bay.
They made a game of trying to eat the biggest part without making faces. Nip was quickly banned from playing as he was unbothered by the taste and even claimed to enjoy it.
The sound of keys in a door made them all freeze.
Toddh was back.
annnnd that's the end of part one 🎶

I thought it'd be fun to put a link to the first time I put Mimosa in a comic (almost 4 years ago), I have evolved a bit

tips for EVERY boss
bc i have played this game for 90 hours, and i figure i should share the knowledge i have accrued.
this isn't going to detail every single attack that they all do btw. this is just tips for things that i figure r good to know
alright, let's get started!
QA-1MIL
when i said 'every boss,' i meant every boss.
for most of this fight ur gonna need to try and bait him into attacking with the attacks where he slams his fists down. what triggers this?? well, slapping his fists
it should be noted that jumping into the air to hit his hands comes with a risk: once u successfully get him to attack, u will get hit, even if his fist doesn't actually slam down on u bc ur in the air still. so only swing a couple of times, then get away FAST
when his hands go limp, don't just smack them. press the button when it prompts u. once u've done this successfully with both fists, u open up a new weak point to hit
he will ALWAYS open the fight with his big sweeping arm attack on easy and normal difficulties, and as soon as the animation for him punching himself is done he does it as well. be ready to jump out of the way
on the higher difficulties, he always opens the fight by slamming his fist down, which doesn't do any damage unless ur close to him, but it does send u up into the air which is cool ig
for his area sweeping attacks (the laser and arm sweep) i would recommend jumping (and dashing if u feel it's necessary) out of the way instead of just dashing. ur less likely to get hit, plus performing all two/three actions on beat will help with ur just timing score and rhythm meter
oh, also, make sure u double jump over his arm sweep attack. if u only jump once it will hit u
when ur dodging out of the way of attacks, or just generally running around, be mindful so that u don't fall off the edge of the platform. easy way to lose chunks of health
after reaching his second phase, when he starts shooting missiles, whenever he does his arm-sweep attack he will also shoot a missile, so keep an eye out for its targeting circle
once u've reached his third phase, SERIOUS MODE, his regular slam-down fist attack ends with an electric charge. so don't start whaling on his fist immediately, wait for the charge to end before going in for the attack
during his third phase he'll start doing a triple slam-down attack. basically he slams down his fist once, twice, and then thrice in rapid succession. u'll need to be dodging and jumping around quickly. no electric charge here, so once he's done, u can go right in and start whaling on him
this next bit is tips for doing this boss on replays specifically, which kinda sorta contains spoilers. so skip this if u don't wanna be potentially spoiled
baiting him into attacking is easier on replays, bc u can just use peppermint to shoot at his hands which will trigger the same response as u hitting them
u'll mostly wanna use peppermint for this fight. macaron can also be pretty useful for when his fists r down. there isn't rlly any need to use korsica, so just alternate between pep and mac
don't use jam combos. they default to attack his chest plate, which, while yea, it does do damage, is dangerous bc it's easy for u to accidentally walk/fall right off the edge of the platform from there. it's just not rlly worth it imo
the best special attack for this guy is honestly power chord. air guitar is also good for when u reveal his weak point
REKKA
fast and hard hitting, so be ready for this tussle
when she does her charge-up attack where she lunges at u multiple times, try and lure her into the walls. if u do this successfully, she'll be stunned for a bit
to dodge her special attack, just pay attention to the timing and beat. the only way to avoid it is by dodging (and jumping, if u feel it's necessary) out of the way at the right time. trying to run might help a bit, but she does jump towards u when she does this
for her first phase, u can pretty much just whale on her. just be mindful that she can and will beat the shit out of u back if u aren't careful, so pay attention
for her second phase, when she's electrified STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM HER. just use peppermint to attack her. if u try to attack her, u will get electrified
while she's electrified, if she goes into the center of the arena, look up and get ready to grapple, bc she's most likely going to electrify the entire floor of the arena. there r two different grapple points that will activate just before and while she does this attack that r near her
during her third phase, she does not do any electric attacks, so u don't have to worry abt those when u get to it. but u do have to worry abt pipes now
one of the attacks rekka does with the pipes has her jump and swing them at u. pay attention to when she's abt to strike, and dodge out of the way at the right time. trying to run away won't do much honestly, so just perfect dodge to the best of ur ability
the other attack is. well u just kinda have to pray she doesn't do it, bc it's RLLY hard to dodge. during this attack, she spins around with two pipes in hand and rushes at u in a whirlwind (during the last phase, she can also be electrified during this, doing even more damage + making it even more difficult to get away from)
during her final phase, she'll do all of her different attacks, throwing everything she's got at u
this next bit is tips for doing this boss on replays specifically, which kinda sorta contains spoilers. so skip this if u don't wanna be potentially spoiled
don't use korsica. HONESTLY, as a blanket statement, don't use korsica for like...any of the bosses for the most part. there r two exceptions to this. this is bc she only does debuff, which doesn't affect half of the bosses
feel free to use macaron, though! generally i would stick with just peppermint, since she has the best range and ur gonna want to avoid rekka for certain chunks of the fight, but macaron deals solid damage. make sure u reserve using him for when ur close-up
would recommend using basically any of the specials aside from the stun ones. they won't work bc u can't stun her via ur own attacks. she only gets stunned after certain attacks she does
ZANZO
ah, the boss fight that technically isn't a boss fight
no tips to give here for uh. obvious reasons. just do ur best
ACTUALLY WAIT. during the magma mania part, stand near the edge of the arena. there r gaps between the falling magma that u can just stand in the entire time until it's over without getting hit
KORSICA
i hope ur good at parrying!
again, no tips to give. just parry and dodge best u can. i believe in u
ACTUALLY WAIT, don't let ur guard down at the end of the fight. if u drop korsica, ur final score for her chorus will be SHIT.
MIMOSA
this one is a rough one until u get the mechanics of it down
high pitch punch is ur friend. equip it. equip it now. it only takes one reverb but it completely destroys her stun bar
spam the FUCK out of peppermint. korsica is also decent for this fight, but honestly, peppermint will be more useful due to her doing both damage and stun, plus she has better range and can attack mimosa while she's airborne. korsica can get her if she's low enough to the ground though
while mimosa is down, feel free to add macaron to the mix for some heavier damage
honestly, ur main goal here is to just whale on her as much as u can, which while that's also kinda true of the other bosses, mimosa doesn't have many attacks that actively deter u from just grappling to her and beating her up
when her wings get HUGE, run. as fast as u can. get the fuck away from her and use peppermint. it's either that or hope that u can break her stun bar before she attacks
when she sings, there will be some music cues for the notes. the music notes will fly at u along to those cues, then stick to the ground and explode after a certain period of time. u can parry these notes when they come at u, but u still need to move away from them before they explode
during her second phase, she will continuously alternate between Lights Out and Vandelay Side Story, with small breaks in-between
during Lights Out, u can use peppermint to figure out where she'll be before the light changes to purple (this works most of the time, but not always). just whale on her with basic combos so it'll be easier to parry her attacks
during Vandelay Side Story, try to knock her out before she reaches any part of the arena that the flamethrowers will reach. be careful though bc bombs will also get thrown at u periodically after the flamethrowers start blasting
there's a rhythm mini game in-between phase two and three. just don't fuck it up too much and u'll be fine, though on harder difficulties any fuck-ups may lead to doom
her third phase she can pull u into Visualizer Wave. during this, waves will come down when the box around u pulses red twice (there's also an audio cue). the difficulty ur playing on dictates how many waves u have to jump over
run to the back of the box before the waves come down, then as u jump over them make ur way to the front to destroy the things generating it
when she does her big laser attack (the beams that move along the edges of the arena), just move to the center and they can't hit u. she will also attack u with targeted lasers, which u can parry and destroy her stun bar with
ROQUEFORT
annoying AND difficult. but goddamn those animations
spam peppermint. macaron is also good.
ur gonna need to be listening and paying close attention, bc there's an audio cue for like. basically all of his attacks. and ur gonna need to parry them bc he hits like a fucking truck AND he attacks fast
air guitar is ur friend. so is pick me up. u could use basically any special aside from the stun ones though
when u grapple to him, ur gonna be airborne. use that to ur advantage; he can't hit u as easily when ur in the air. the only downside is that u cant do as many combos
the first phase is pretty simple. the most interesting thing he does during this phase is he'll send two tornadoes at u, similar to the bird robots
the last portion of this first phase, he'll revert back to his human form. during this u have to chase him around and beat the shit out of him, which is rlly annoying esp on harder difficulties bc he'll become quicker and dodge more
at some point, he'll create a barrier; if ur too close to him when he does this, u will take damage. at another point, he'll create a shield. just break them and return to killing and maiming
second phase is where things get harder. during this, he'll start doing some of his more tricky attacks, such as one where he charges at u three times in quick succession. be prepared to parry, but u can try ur luck at dodging
the other new attack he does is similar to the bru-t1l's attack where it spins around with its saws, barraging u with attacks u have to constantly parry or dodge away from
the second phase also introduces the rhythm minigame Big Bad Wolf, where he'll blow a stream of air at u. u have to manually call in korsica to combat this, and there's a bar that will pop up on screen in the lower left corner. u have to hit the notes as they appear to fill the bar. if u don't fill the bar up to/past the white line on it, u will take damage. on higher difficulties, this line moves higher
the last portion of this phase is similar to the first, where roquefort reverts to his human form and u have to chase him down. the difference is that now he has security lasers, both a wall of them and the ones that shoot at u. the wall will move first, the gap in it for u to go thru changing. then, the lasers will start firing at u
once u reach him, just beat the shit out of him. at a certain point, he'll go thru the hatch on the floor to the other side of the room, restarting the process with the lasers
third phase doesn't introduce any new attacks aside from him jumping into the money pit. he'll swim thru it, which u will have to dodge/jump out of the way to avoid. as this happens, things will emerge from the pit, including a silver fist. when he jumps out to attack u, make sure ur close to this fist; he'll ram into it and be stunned for a little while
at the end of this phase is Big Bad Wolf again. if u fail it, u die! so don't fuck up!
KALE
the final big bad...
for the 808 part of the fight, just pay attention to the song and the flames. be cautious, bc if u get hit once u WILL get hit again
for the first proper phase of the fight, ur gonna wanna pay attention and be ready to parry at a moment's notice. kale is quick, but he gives u enough time to recognize when he's going to attack. try not to get caught in a long combo
kale will actually guard against peppermint's shots, so wait until he's in the middle of an animation to call her in
this is the only other boss fight u can use korsica in, bc kale has a stun gauge that u can actually break by just attacking him rather than waiting for him to be stunned by his own attacks
macaron is good for solid damage, but kale moves around the arena very quickly, so wait until he's moved recently before calling mac in
u can parry the lightning strikes, but honestly it's kinda better to just dodge them imo
kale has four little. things that float around him. they will shoot at u, so listen close for their audio cues and look out for their red lasers
second phase is all abt being patient. what kale attacks u with is up to rng; if ur lucky, he'll go with the fists first. the sooner u can destroy those the sooner u can start whaling on him
use ur heavy attack on the tentacles when they go down, it decimates them
in-between the tentacle attacks, he'll do his attack where he jumps into the air, slams down, then strikes out with this sword. be ready to parry twice for that. he will also use his tentacles to lash out sometimes, so watch out for that
u don't actually have to take out kale's health bar to get past this phase, if u destroy all three of the different. tentacle things he has, u'll move on to the third phase
during the third phase, some of kale's attacks will generate fire, including the lightning strikes which also get bigger
he starts doing an area sweep attack during this phase. if u parry all three swipes successfully, it should be enough to stun him
for special attacks, u can use basically any other than steal the show. it gets u funny dialogue but it doesn't affect him.
i think that's basically everything. if u wanna add any of ur own thoughts, feel free to do so.
