hi! i have a knitting question if you could help. im looking for resources on top down shaping armholes using straight needles. i want to create a v neck sweater vest with scrap yarn so I'd rather make up my own pattern as i go but im still new to knitting and can't find any resources on top down sleeveless shaped sleeves.

how exactly you shape it depends on your body type and how you want the finished product to look. most likely you'll have to do some increases, how many you'll have to do depends on how wide you make the shoulder straps & on how wide your sides are. i've only ever had 2 calculate those numbers for myself so i'm definitely not an expert on how to do it, but you have to know 1) the length of the shoulder straps; 2) the width of the shoulder straps; 3) your gauge; 4) the width of your side (divided by 2, since you'll have to knit both a back & front piece). from that you can determine how many times you have to increase. depending on the shape you're going for you might want to concentrate the increases near the bottom of the armscye. trying it on a bunch can mitigate some of the calculating, but that brings more risk of having to redo stuff. also when determining how far down your side you want the armscye to go, remember to leave space for ribbing!

Bought my uncle a burger and milkshake in exchange for letting me disrupt the holiest day of the week, NFL Sunday Football, so I could install a Pi-hole and free the household of ads...the thing abt the specific boomers I live with is they told me not to trust people on the Internet but they do not understand the algorithm or online advertising and think that Facebook has their best interests at heart. And every time I have tried to explain to them that no, blorbo from my dashboard is not selling my kidneys on the dark web but Google from your capitalism is definitely selling your web searches to every advertising company on the planet, they think I am paranoid.
