hi copper!!! this is a fantastic question!

so obviously typical irl rats have far shorter lifespans than the average irl tortoise. according to google (yes, be awed by my spectacularly in-depth wealth of research) the average pet rat lives between 2-4 years ish, and the oldest on record lived to be about 7. meanwhile, an African spurred tortoise (Splinter's species) averages more around a 50ish year lifespan in captivity, tho is suspected to possibly exceed 75 or more in the wild.

Now, the mutation does give us a lot of wiggle room for playing with these numbers. For the rat sons boys, id say their natural lifespan probably clocks in at about 45-55 years old? definitely not old by human standards, but not young young either. (though, its also important to note that the boys were exposed to the mutagen just days after being born.)

For Splinter, meanwhile, aging is slightly more complicated. He lived the vast majority of his life as a regular normal African spurred tortoise (well, non-mutated at least. there were perhaps some shenanigans of a more mystical variety going on before he was mutated, but thats a separate matter) He was about 70ish i think? when the boys were born and they were all exposed to the mutagen. so he is already distinctly an old man turtle papa. id guess he'd probably still have another eh lets say 25-30 years after his mutation. he could probably push it a little farther even with some mystic nonsense, but when push comes to shove id say his 'natural' post-mutation lifespan would put his death like a solid decade or two before his sons.

of course, the tricky part of the matter is that theres no way for Splinter to know any of this. theres no way for him to know how the mutation affected them all, or if it even affected them all in the same way. especially since the boys dont show many physical signs of mutation for the first few years, and just kinda look like normal rats, (albeit with a more human sort of intelligence) — what sort of health standard do you hold them to? what if they simply dont show external signs of sickness or old age anymore? how do you actually know if something is wrong?

for a while there Splinter is very worried that one of his babies will just essentially reach the end of their normal rat lifespan, fall and not get up again.

so mostly, he just tries to live in the moment, enjoying whatever time he does have with his little ones, taking each day as a gift <3

Prison Arc but Dream is shrunk down and swallowed safely by a friend.

And George has no fricking clue why he's suddenly always feeling pain from his stomach or just always so hungry.

What if Dream set it all up from the get go, before he even went to prison? He hadn’t expected Q’s visits, but when they’d started getting more intense he realizes that the plan he had set up, something he hadn’t considered going through with because it had seemed silly at the time setting it up, will have to actually be used.

This is getting long lol so I’m putting a cut

Idk how he’d really get out of Pandora’s Vault while shrunken unless he managed to hitch a ride on Sam or Q and he wouldn’t risk that, so he uses ✨admin powers✨ and just disappears.

Maybe it was an accident, maybe he hadn’t meant to teleport into George. But once he’s aware he accidentally teleported into a living thing in general, he tries to get whatever it was to spit him out.

Hours pass, he’s exhausted himself, but he’s still alive and unharmed. He’s conflicted, but he does acknowledge that nothing could get him wherever he was. If it seemed to be safe for now, it was probably safe to rest.

George wakes up after Dream falls asleep to one hell of a stomachache, and he genuinely can’t bring himself to get out of bed. Sapnap visits, trying to get him up, but even he can tell the other’s hurting.

Dream wakes up to a liquid cascading down atop him, quickly sitting up so he didn’t drown by- is that a healing potion? He wasn’t sure why it was drank, but it certainly targeted his wounds, soothing the cuts and bruises and making the pain practically nonexistent. It wasn’t until after he’d relaxed at the relief that he heard voices, and paled when he realized what had happened.

“Did that help, George?”

“A little. Thanks, Sapnap.”

Fuck.

And the two just begin to coexist, George unaware that he’s eating for two people and confused as to why he feels hungrier than usual.

Dream feels guilty for not making himself known, but he’s also scared of their reactions. Sapnap had promised to kill him if he escaped, but he’d never agreed to torture! Surely if he could explain that before they found out, maybe he’d be spared?

Sapnap catches on to it quickly, but he can’t figure out what had happened to his friend nor what happened with Dream. He started searching for him when he heard about the escape but he couldn’t find him. Half the server was trying to hunt him down, so Sapnap reluctantly (still has the death book deal) stays back to care for George and Karl, who’s memory is worsening.

It’s staying in the same house as George that leads him to believe he had to have swallowed a parasite or something similar. He expresses his thoughts and George agrees.

They didn’t expect to find the missing prisoner and their former friend when George managed to cough him up.

There's a headcanon from a while back that Warriors braids people's hair as an idle / to connect / to decompress. May I propose other small physical connections and comforts, like Legend giving back scritches?

If someone is seated on Legend's bedroll with him during downtime and they're just dozing or he sees someone who's tense and decompressing he'll reach a hand out and rub their back. If they respond well he'll give scritches. He doesn't have to ask or talk about what's bothering someone that way and can still give comfort. I think the motion would be soothing for him as well.

Wild will give scritches too but watch out because he'll start tickling and poking when he gets bored. Good hefty pats and a slight shake. Giving Wolfie / horsie pats to everyone haha!

Sky has the best hugs to sigh troubles away into and he will hold those who need it.

Time's hugs give strength. A hug that fills one with confidence.

Twi will give massages. Also the same kind of pats Wild gives and hair ruffles / scalp massages but he has better control of his own strength when messing with people from being big brother to the kids in Ordon. Wild's pats lean towards playfully riling someone up, and while Twilight's can also be that, they're more secure and comforting as well.

Hyrule and casual touch! Sitting just near enough that something is touching be it an arm or leg or leaning fully into someone. He'll get into the space of those who allow it and will take their hands and massage their palms or press their hands between his to keep them warm. We've seen him in the updates the past year or so grabbing Time's shirt when he made a breakthrough with Twi, and nudging an elbow at Legend when laughing. I think it's something he'd do more often the more comfortable he is with the chain. Resting an elbow on a shoulder, hitting an arm with the back of his hand to get someone's attention, offering a hand for calf stretches, playful rough housing, etc. I love it for him.

Four with the back scritches as well. I like a headcanon I've read in sister_dear's works where Four doesn't usually like people messing with his head, ruffling his hair, etc. But, I can see him accepting a palm to his forehead or over his eyes when he has a headache (from Twi specifically!), and doing so for others. He'll press his face to people like a cat and lean. Like Sky, he'll hold people. It's what he's found works. (He is little so finding a way to do so can be awkward but so help him he will protect those he cares for!!!)

Wind ruffles and braids hair as well. Also full out rough housing, play wrestling, trying to pick people up, etc. I can also see him sprawling over those he's comfortable with. They're his pillow now. Whoever he's fallen asleep on is no longer allowed to move. They have to deal with the fact that he heats up in his sleep too. (Space heater Wind.) But I think his slowed breathing and trust would be a comfort.

Like, you put that man in a bath and he’ll just soak up all the water like a sponge would do 🤔

well, the way i see it, Fake HATES being in water. it messes with his skin and makes him lose his form, so unless it's like, a real nice, comfy warm bath, it probably isn't too pleasant.

.... but, what he CAN do, drinking liquids doesn't hurt him, his insides are more "sturdy" and can absorb it better. so if he were to be put in, let's say, a container of sorts filled with water, he'd probably just try to drink all of the water in order to get it off of him.

something that Peppino unfortunately found out once while trying to get Fake to take a bath.

so... i guess he DOES work kinda like a sponge, in certain situations. Fake sure doesn't like doing it that much though... it takes forever to get all that water absorbed.
