Quahaug Concept Art
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quahaug's concept/reference art! Translation notes and image id under the cut.
Translation notes:
"OP sort of powerset" was literally translated as something like "cheat-like." I feel like OP is the more common English term for that sort of thing, so that's what I used, but some of the meaning was probably lost there.
"Older-tween-ish" was specifically a reference to a particular middle school year for children who are about 12-13 years old. Since grades and names of grades vary a lot from country to country, I just went with "older tween."
ID:
[Image id: Several images displaying different parts of 2 pages of the Triangle Strategy artbook, with both the original Japanese as well as versions with English translations. There are several disclaimers noting that the translator doesn't speak Japanese, and that there are likely many mistakes.
On one page, there is a large colored version of Quahaug's canon portrait, along with a smaller, uncolored version. There is an illustrator's note at the bottom that translates to read, "'Manipulating time' is an OP sort of powerset, so though he looks like a child, I aimed to create a look for him that conveyed a sense of unknowable power. (Tatsuaki Urushibara)".
On the second page, there are many drawings of Quahaug, including a closer bust-up portrait in which he's compared to Lyla, with an arrow and label reading, "Mother." There's also several notes that explain the construction of his costume. The costume is labeled as a Greek "phelonion" (a priest's outfit with no real sleeves, just draping fabric). There is a small drawing of this version, with an arrow leading to another drawing that does have sleeves, with the note, "If you can't display this in pixels, use this one." There are several notes that explain how this draping cloth should be considered his everyday clothes, while the ceremonial decoration that goes around his neck is placed over it. There is a close up of the ceremonial dressing's fastenings underneath the metal decoration. Some more notes highlight details on his staff, emphasizing the hourglass on top and the small wheel to the side that can be turned to flip the hourglass. A larger piece of text underneath one fullbody drawing reads, "Character Who Manipulates Time."
On the second half of the second page, there are drawings of some beta designs for Quahaug. He looks much more punk-ish. On one bust-up portrait, there are the captions, "The burden of the time demon caused some of his hair to go gray…." and "All-natural highlighted tips." On the same portrait, he is snapping his fingers, and there's a note that reads, "Manipulating time is as easy as snapping your fingers. You just have to want it or whatever." A speech bubble near his head reads, "I don't think of Anna as a mother." A caption pointing to some green markings on his arm reads, "Demonic time seal on body." In a fullbody drawing of his beta design (which is made up mostly of chains that barely cover him as well as a long roughed-up cloak, there is the note, "Almost naked cloak."
At the bottom of the second page, there is another note that reads, "Initially when we hadn't quite figured out the setting, we had an idea for a more older-tween-ish character as displayed here, but after discussing it with the producers and Mr. Ikushima, we went with his current form. As a boy who manipulates time, I placed an hourglass at the tip of his staff, and his face resembles that of his mother, Lyla. (Tatsuaki Irushibara)". /end id]

Cosmere Characters in the Hunger Games
As requested by @sweetteaanddragons :)
I haven't read or watched Hunger Games, but I've picked up enough through cultural osmosis...I hope. They're kids in an arena fighting to the death, right? And it's a media circus? And there are 12 districts? And they're poor? I think I got it! Anyway, let's stick Cosmere characters in that arena and see how they do!
By the way, for the most part I'm imagining these characters in their own separate hunger games, not all together, just because I didn't want to imagine all of my blorbos killing each other.
1. Kaladin
After a kid who looks just like Tien literally dies in Kaladin's arms (note: all of the kids look exactly like Tien so far as Kaladin is concerned), Kaladin realizes that the Hunger Games are about kids dying, not about kids surviving. He decides that he has to save everyone, and quickly builds a coalition with the other tributes. They all die anyway and Kaladin wins.
He's not happy about it.
2. Shallan
Sadly, Shallan dies while trying unsuccessfully to convince a stick to become fire. Technically, I think this means the stick wins, but they give the award to some kid instead, for some reason.
3. Adolin
Adolin was doing really well until FOUR other tributes all decided to gang up on him. Even then, he fought like an uncaged tiger and very nearly survived. Nearly. (Hey, uh, most characters die in Hunger Games, right?)
4. Vin
Vin slices through the competition like a vengeful god. Emphasis on vengeful. And god. She barely even lets herself get distracted by the weird love triangle between that guy who wants to make the world better and the one who wants to burn it all down. She's too busy, like, killing everyone.
5. Zane
Zane thinks it's pretty swell to be in this killing arena killing people. What isn't swell is that Vin isn't into him, even AFTER their romantic killing spree. What gives? Anyway. Vin kills him.
6. Elend
Elend has a lot of thoughts about the sociological implications of the games. He does not have a lot of thoughts about how to sharpen a stick into a crude spear and ram it through someone's chest. (Is that what happens in the Hunger Games?) Regardless, I don't think he makes it long... Sorry, Elend.
7. Spook
Spook is a wraith. No one ever sees him coming. Or sees him at all. He keeps receiving supplies and weapons from a mysterious benefactor. At one point he starts wearing a handkerchief over his eyes and killing people by sound alone. I don't really see him winning, tbh (sorry Spook), but he is definitely a crowd favorite who makes it super far.
8. Szeth
"To kill innocent children for the amusement of distant viewers blackens my soul with a stain that shall never be removed. Oh, how I hate this. Oh, how I hate this senseless, senseless killing," Szeth thinks to himself as he constructs an unnecessarily elaborate death trap that kills his opponents horribly. "No one suffers like me," Szeth thinks, over all of the screaming.
9. Renarin
Hey remember when Renarin killed a Thunderclast mostly off-screen? Plus he has future sight. If they've got their powers in this game, then Radiant Renarin is probably taking it all. If not, well...let's not go there.
10. Vivenna
After her sister is sent as a tribute in Vivenna's place, Vivenna enters the Hunger Games anyway, determined to somehow put a stop to them. For example, she takes all the food she can find and hides it in one place so that it will be safe for everyone. She figures out how to predict supply drops to ensure that she always gets to them first. While convinced that she is the Hunger Games Breaker, she is actually the season's most notorious villain and eventually everyone bands together to kill her. Sorry, Vivenna.
11. Kelsier
Kelsier wins the hearts of viewers everywhere, mostly due to his determination to keep smiling no matter what horrors he must survive. He's, like, really good at killing people also. The Survivor, people call him. But when he is shockingly cut down and killed, his death galvanizes a rebellion against, uh, President Snow? Is that the big bad? Anyway. There's a religion about him now.
12. Ann
Oh, Ann. So excited to shoot guns. (Do they have guns?) So excited to shoot bows and arrows maybe. But she can't shoot worth a damn. She has a splendid time and hits no one. And, well, she does not win.
13. Cord
Frankly, Cord wants to win and bring glory and money (?) back home to her people, who desperately need it. I'm assuming the districts get stuff if their person wins. Cord is in it to win it. And she's awfully good with that bow and arrow...
14. Lift
Man, I don't want Lift to be in the Hunger Games! Lift thinks killing is lazy and boring! Sure, she'd be great at hiding in trees and getting food, but I definitely do not see Lift actually being able to kill anyone. Is that allowed? Will she be disqualified?
15. Tress
Tress looks at the Death Arena Whose Purpose Is Death and says, "But is anyone gonna Make Friends about it" and doesn't wait for an answer. Somehow, by the end, basically everyone IS friends. Except for that one person who really did want to kill. But she and Tress went off together and only Tress returned. So.
Basically, Tress's influence ruins the Hunger Games that year. Nobody wants the Friendship Games.

warnings: literally none, maybe some language, a bit of angst at first ( just sad — i made myself very unhappy ), emotionally hurt + comfort, a sickening amount of fluff, really long, [y/n] x oc but this oc is actually such a sweetie pie i love him, [y/n] being the cutest little patootie of all time
change is scary
Tumblr media
every omaticayan knew of [y/n] sully. they knew she was a fierce warrior, a strong warrior. they knew she took after her mother, the archery gene running strong through her veins right next to her urge to protect.
they all knew that, being the oldest child of their olo’eyktan, she was expected to fill the position of the tsahik one day in the far future, and her training reflected just that. not only was she deeply connected with eywa thanks to the teachings of both her mother and grandmother, but she was intelligent when it came to war. she sat in at every single war meeting with her father, silently taking note of everything that was exchanged.
after seventeen long years of listening and learning, [y/n] was considered one of the strongest warriors in their clan. she was well respected, more respected than even some of the elder warriors.
part of her soul felt pride. pride in herself, in her abilities. but, another part of her soul felt empty. almost like she’d missed a third of her childhood because she’d been busy shaking the hands of generals from other clans.
but now… now all of that, all of that time wasted as she straightened her shoulders and stood tall in front of clan leaders, time wasted as she stared at raid maps, time wasted as she trained with the most skilled warriors of the omaticaya… it was all going down the drain.
“we must leave. it is unsafe here.”
she fought tears, told herself she was far too mature for them. she swallowed screams, told herself she needed to set an example for her siblings. the only time she broke was the night before they left, leaving her on her knees before the tree of souls, begging eywa, “why? why must you do this to me? just when i was this close?”
[y/n] was not sad. no, she was angry. but she had nobody to be angry at. it wasn’t like her parents were wrong for wanting to keep her family safe.
maybe if i’d killed that avatar when i had the chance, she cursed herself, remembering when her arrow’d been pointed directly at the heart of quaritch, only being interrupted by the other avatar that shot at her. thanks to the will of eywa, he was a terrible shot and she came out unscathed.
she held a stoic look upon her face during the ceremony in which her father passed along the title of olo’eyktan to tarsem. it wasn’t that she had anything against tarsem and his mate—in fact, she thought they were considerably good choices. but that was supposed to be her. that was supposed to be her ceremony.
by the time they had to leave, [y/n] had nothing left, no energy left to try and hold it down. so, instead she remained silent, because if she decided to say a farewell to even one person… she knew herself well enough to not trust the floodgates.
as they flew, her butt growing sorer and sorer by the second, she remained distant. the air was calming, the breeze allowing her a moment to breath.
she was so wrapped up in her own thoughts she didn’t notice her family exchange glances, all silently deciding to leave [y/n] to work through it herself. they knew her, and they knew she would not let them help. i’m fine, she would say, and she would keep saying it until they finally gave up.
it was only when they reached their new home in the metkayina clan that she began to show herself again, but even that was the tiniest peek.
as ronal circled the group of foreigners, her hands trailing over them as to check out what features they offered, [y/n] immediately felt on alert. her ears perked, eyes narrowing at the tsahik, a growl growing at the back of her throat.
when she held up lo’ak’s hand for the entire clan to see, as if shaming him for his lineage—a lineage that he was born into without a choice, [y/n] stepped forward, teeth bared. immediately, neteyam pulled her backwards, just as jake did with neytiri.
her action pulled ronal’s attention, their eyes locking. the tsahik circled her, watching as [y/n]’s tail swished, lip curled in disgust.
ronal did not miss as her eyes flared for even a split second as she stopped in front of the girl, grabbing [y/n]’s face with one hand. the air immediately got tenser, tonowari and jake sharing very similar expressions of concern, the latter grabbing his mate before she could make any dumb decisions.
[y/n]’s tail fell to a pause, her air stuck in her chest as she stared directly into the metkayina woman’s eyes.
“if you are seeking refuge, i suggest that you don’t threaten anyone.”
[y/n] bared her teeth at that, fangs making a show just for her. “if you are seeking to make enemies with the toruk makto, then why don’t you just say that?”
now, in this moment, most members of the metkayina clan were justifiably upset. speaking to their tsahik like that? well, of course they would be angry. but, in the crowd of metkayina stood one boy, his eyes unable to leave that girl. that girl who was full of anger, of spite, of bitterness for the world. she was captivating.
as the rest of the crowd gasped at the seventeen year old’s words, he couldn’t help but laugh, immediately covering his mouth as his friends sent him a look and an elbow in the ribs.
the only other person to smile at her words was, shockingly, ronal. the tsahik felt the smallest grin rise to her lips, taking her hand off of the girl’s face and taking a step back. as soon as she was back with tonowari, it was like the look of amusement had never been there.
once she’d stepped back, silence seemed to settle in the air. it was heavy, weighing on [y/n]’s shoulders just as much as the look her father sent her. behave, remember? he seemed to be telling her.
her mother’s look of pride made her feel a bit better, though.
as a way to regain the attention of the crowd, tonowari cleared his throat. “toruk makto is a great war leader. all na’vi people know his story.” he then locked eyes with jake. “but we metkayina are not at war.” [y/n]’s eyes followed tuk, watching as the small girl walked over to her father, allowing for the father to pick her up and hold her in his arms. “we cannot let you bring your war here.”
jake nodded in agreement. “i’m done with war, okay. i just.. want to keep my family safe.” at that, they seemed to pull closer together, neytiri grabbing the hands of her two eldest daughters.
“uturu has been asked,” the mother added, her eyes meeting those of tonowari.
the silence was deadly. [y/n] could feel pins of anxiety, her breath getting shallower. and what if they send us away? where else would we go? just keep trying and trying to find someone to take us?
after what seemed like forever, tonowari turned away from them and towards the people. “toruk makto and his family will stay with us.” immediately, relief flooded her body, her head dropping in appreciation. “treat them as your brothers and sisters. they do not know the sea, so they will be like babies taking their first breath.” at that, [y/n] felt her mother cringe beside her. and, as a wonderful way to finish their introduction to the metkayina people, he added, “teach them our ways so they not suffer the shame of being useless.”
she felt neteyam’s grab her tail at that, tugging it to keep her from saying anything stupid.
“okay,” jake sighed, relieved. he turned to his family. “what do we say?”
“thank you,” they all mumbled except for tuk whose tone was very genuine.
[y/n], however, remained silent. at a sharp look from her father, she swallowed. “thank you,” she added, exhaling a deep breath.
beside tonowari stood two kids, a boy and a girl. “my son ao’nung and my daughter tsireya will show your children what do,” he informed the family. [y/n] stifled a chuckle as the boy, ao’nung, tried to argue his way out of it. “it has been decided,” tonowari shut him down.
tsireya, however, looked more than happy to do it, and based on the way her baby brother was staring at the metkayina girl, lo’ak didn’t seem to mind either. “come, i will show you our village.”
if there was one thing that shocked [y/n] during her time in awa’atluI, it was that she horridly terrible. terrible at everything. from riding an ilu to being a quick swimmer. it was awful. and maybe the whole brink of the problem was the fact that she could barely hold her breath for a time, making it nearly impossible to learn to do anything else.
it’d been a few weeks of relearning the ways of life, and it felt as if she was making absolutely no progress. the simple things, such as food and even dancing, came easy to her. but learning to make food and dance was not going to make her a successful warrior, and even tonowari knew they needed to train her to fight with them based on the stories that her father told of her. ( he also recognized her the moment that ronal faced her off—how could tonowari forget the face of one of most mature eight year olds that he’d ever met way back in the day when he visited the omaticaya for a war meeting. )
but, for the love of eywa, [y/n] was useless. completely and utterly! and the fact of it made her sick to her stomach.
ao’nung was her first teacher, and he was a complete imbecile. tsireya was patient with her, but her optimism made me feel even guiltier by the day. eventually, one day out of the blue, the two children of ronal and tonowari brought forth a male.
this male was around [y/n]’s age. he was tall, muscular, and based on his tattoos, he was an announced warrior of the metkayina. tsireya introduced him as fali.
it turned out, based on further conversation between [y/n] and tsireya, that fali had grown up with the two kids. he was the son of respected warrior, a warrior that was considered ronal’s best friend. in a way, fali was like their big brother.
at that, [y/n] thought that… maybe they could be friends. maybe they had more in common!
she was wrong, and after a days of knowing him, she came to the conclusion that their older sibling roles happened to be the only thing in common.
while [y/n] was smart, responsible, respectful… fali was stupid, annoying, and careless. it was driving [y/n] up the wall! if he was the “older sibling,” why did he egg ao’nung on? if he was the “older sibling,” why did he dare the younger boys to go beyond the reef? if he was the “older sibling,” why was he so… reckless?
so, to say that [y/n] was exhausted with both him and the entirety of trying to rewire her brain, well… that would be a major understatement.
but, alas, she was still expected to learn. unfortunately for her, she took the role as the older sibling quite seriously, and she tried to set a good example out of herself!
now she treaded water in the middle of the reef, the sun beaming down on her face and shoulders. in front of her floated fali, the boy drifting stomach up with his hands rested behind his head.
[y/n] did not look amused, as unfortunate as fali found it. he was letting the sun practically burn his face off, and she wouldn’t even smile!
after an excruciating amount of time, fali let out a yelp of surprise when he felt her hand grab his tail, yanking him downwards. when he resurfaced, she had the faintest shadow of a grin. she nearly drowns me and she still can’t smile fully. what is wrong with her?
while [y/n] thought fali to be reckless and far too carefree, fali found her to be way too uptight. i mean, sure, old habits die hard after being raised as the future tsahik, but couldn’t she let loose once in a while?
“can we please start?” the girl asked, tone exasperated.
he rolled his eyes, a smile playing at his lips. “well, i apologize. i didn’t realize you were so eager to learn. i mean, you usually just complain.”
[y/n] sighed, sending him a look of annoyance. he does not shut up, does he? but, he wasn’t wrong… however, she didn’t let him know that her heart dropped once he decided to actually start teaching her for the day.
it was an unusually long lesson, but it was filled with the same issues as every other day. fali telling her what to do, [y/n] being unable to do it, [y/n] getting mad at herself, fali trying to help her fix it, [y/n] telling him that she’s fine, fali stepping back and watching her battle herself… it was always a pleasant time.
this time, however, things just seemed to be a little more on edge. she seemed to be a little more annoyed. at him, at herself. she was a balloon ready to burst, and fali was bracing himself for the moment that she did.
it was after the sixth time in which she failed to breath correctly that he knew it was going down. he watched her face flush, eyes narrowing as she continued to try and fix it.
“no, [y/n],” he offered, voice soft. she always made him feel guilty, guilty of ever getting annoyed. he knew that she was trying her best. “just… breathe from here. pretend as if there’s a flame within your belly, offering your lungs support and warmth.”
“i’m trying!” she snapped, eyes brimming with tears before she quickly turned away, eyes avoiding his eyes.
the two faded to silence, simply sitting on a rock in the middle of the reef, staring at the setting sun ahead of them. the horizon was gorgeous, a beautiful orange contrasting the blue of the sea.
they sat there, in silence, until just before eclipse.
as they neared curfew, [y/n] inhaled deeply, preparing herself to get up and leave. but, a gentle hand on her knee stopped her. she turned to fali.
“do you know what i think?” he began, voice gentle. “i think that you are more than capable to do this.”
[y/n] scoffed. “if that were true, i would be out there, not stuck with… with you!”
at that, he huffed a laugh, running his fangs over his bottom lip. “i’m going to ignore that comment and continue getting to my point,” he jokes, his eyes widening at the smallest flicker of a smile on her lips. “i believe that something, whether you realize it or not, is keeping you from being successful—my guess being that it’s subconscious—but i digress. i believe that you are scared, [y/n]. scared of doing it right, scared of becoming one of the metkayina because once you are one of our people, you feel like you are betraying your home.”
the girl beside him shook her head in disbelief. “you believe? or you know? because you sure said that—that soliloquy—as if you know me.” [y/n] stood up, taking a few steps backwards. “i have known you for seven days, fali. seven days! and suddenly you decide that you can analyze me?”
fali laughed at that. “seven days is enough for you to decide that you hate me!” he pointed out, a disbelieving smile playing on his lips.
“well, you wear everything on the outside. every bit of stupidity, recklessness, carelessness.” she grit her teeth. “you are an open book, and i am closed. that is the truth.”
“i wear what i want to wear,” fali argued, standing up to face her, the two getting closer by the second. they got closer by the insult thrown. “you think i am dumb, but i am not. i am smart enough to make it so that people like you—people who do not care to look past their own bubble—cannot see my vulnerabilities.”
[y/n] bared her teeth. “you think me ignorant? blind, even? i have seen more of the world than you, i have fought dream-walkers, watched as my baby siblings had death looming above their heads. you are clueless to what is beyond awa’atlu.” a growl built in the back of her throat, their faces extremely close together. “i build my—my ‘bubble,’ as you called it—because i know what is beyond your dimwitted understanding!”
the two were silent, the tension electric between them. behind them the sun was set beyond the horizon, eclipse having already passed. waves lapped at the rock, the incoming high tide making it so their feet were splashed with the salty water.
as they stared at each other, a sense of understanding seemed to bless both of them. fali’s eyes never left those of [y/n]... her ( beautiful ) narrowed eyes. and [y/n] didn’t miss the way that the moons reflected on fali’s aquamarine skin, his bioluminescent freckles splattering the sides of his face.
[y/n] could have sworn she felt herself lean in, towards him, until the familiar call of her mother brought her back to reality.
“[y/n]?” neytiri called from their marui.
the girl swallowed, stepping back quickly. she cleared her throat before yelling back, “coming!” and with one last look at fali, she dove into the waters.
the next few days were odd, to put it simply. suddenly, there was no aggravation towards each other, but it was much more tense in an… awkward way.
a part of [y/n] was filled with spite, and by the time they got to working again, she was doing better than she had been for weeks. she was actually making progress! and it was all to shove it in fali’s face.
unfortunately for her, fali was much more hesitant when it came to helping her. he refused to touch her stomach as to help her breathing, his movements stiff and scared, resembling that of a baby hexapede.
but, [y/n] didn’t need him…? the others found it extremely peculiar. one day, she’s out past curfew, and right after she suddenly fixed nearly all her mistakes. very odd indeed…
it did not take long for her first free dive. her breathing improved astoundingly, her swimming technique also getting better from watching tsireya when she showed kiri and tuk around the reef.
“do you see this shell?” fali held it up, the sunlight reflecting off of its shiny exterior.
she rolled her eyes. “yes, i see the shell.”
“that’s good.” he blinked, eyes shifting away from her’s with a sheepish grin. “uh, anyway,” he continued, clearing his throat. “i assume you understand the drill? i drop it, you find it.”
“yes, fali,” she sighed. “i am fully aware of how this works. now, i would rather get it done with soon so i don’t have to live in anxiety anymore.” [y/n] locked eyes with fali. “please just drop the shell.”
and he did. she swallowed as she watched it float down, the depths looking much more abyssal-like than they normally did.
“remember,” fali’s soft tone grabbed her attention, “there is nothing to fear. you are stronger than you know, and if you begin to doubt yourself… think of you returning with the shell and rubbing it in my face.” at that, [y/n]’s face flushed, embarrassed. he smiled at her expression. “yes, i know that’s the only reason you’ve suddenly been trying, but… if it works, it works.”
and for once, she smiled. actually smiled. and fali felt himself burst with pride. somehow, it felt better that it wasn’t one of his stupid jokes, or his silly slip-ups. no, he made her smile just by talking to her. by being fali.
stunned, fali only remembered that he was supposed to be helpful when she stared at him expectantly with those bright [e/c] eyes of her’s. he lifted his hands, miming lungs filling with air as he reminded, “deep breath. this is all yours. nothing to fear, only to look forward to.”
with that, the girl dove in.
underneath the surface, she felt at peace. for the first time ever, [y/n] wasn’t freaking out while submerged in the salty water. instead, her jaw seemed to gape in awe at the scenery around her.
the deeper she went, the more starstruck that she was. there were layers to this reef that she hadn’t even been aware of. layers that she’d only heard from tales of her siblings, not truly understanding how magical they actually were.
as she kicked her feet towards the ocean floor, she heard fali’s voice in her head. “the way of water has no beginning and end.” she caught sight of the shell. “the sea is around you and in you. the sea is your home, before your birth and after your death.” she stifled a cry of joy as a school of fish swam around her, tickling her sides with their soft touches. “our hearts beat in the womb of the world. our breath burns in the shadows of the deep.” she was nearly there, her hand outstretched to grab the small artifact. “the sea gives and the sea takes.” she got it! oh, eywa, she got it! it was in her hand! oh, how proud fali will be! “water connects all things.” she began to swim up, a smile stuck on her face. “life to death,” she resurfaced, “darkness to light.”
“fali!” she cried, spinning around in a circle to catch the eyes of the boy. “fali, look!” she held it up, her expression beaming with pride.
and fali couldn’t help it either, his own smile taking over his features. “[y/n]!” he exclaimed, jumping off of the rock and swimming to her. “you did it! oh, eywa, you actually did it!” he stared at the shell as they tread water. “oh, how proud i am!”
her silence caused him to turn, staring her in the eyes. “[y/n]?”
she swallowed, her eyes locked on the shell in her hands. “fali,” she began, voice quiet. “i have a wallowing fear that you were right.”
at those words, fali gaped silently. instead of answering right away, he began to tug her towards the rock, allowing for them to get out of the water so her could properly comfort her.
once she was settled on the rock, she carefully placed the shell down, pulling her knees close to her chest. she felt like a child again, helpless against her emotions. “i was scared. not of the ocean, not of swimming, not of drowning.” she looked up, locking eyes with fali. “i was scared of abandoning my people.”
a tear dropped from her eye, and fali immediately had her hands resting on [y/n]’s biceps. “hey,” he called softly, forcing her to look him in the eyes again. “you are not abandoning them. you are… learning. you are learning how to adapt, how to survive. in fact, i think that is more in touch with your culture and ancestors! you are just like them, trying to adapt and survive in a world that is trying to kill you.” she smiled a little at that. maybe he wasn’t so stupid. “you are not weak for fearing change… you are normal. it is okay to be normal every once in a while, as much as you enjoy being the big sister that is oh-so mature and oh-so strong.” his finger lifted her chin up, a soft smile on his lips. “because people who love you do not mind how mature, or strong, or stupid, or careless, or responsible, or up-tight you are. because you, [y/n], are what you are.”
once he was finished, he noticed that [y/n]’s tears were dried, a smile on her face. a look in her eyes had him floored… oh, she was so beautiful, wasn’t she?
luckily for fali, she seemed to think the same of him, raising her arm, grabbing the back of his head, and bringing his smiling lips against her’s.
the sully family knew and loved [y/n]. of course they did! she was their’s, afterall. but, they also knew that she was never this easy-going or even this happy.
both jake and neytiri knew they’d seared little moments of trauma into the brain of their eldest daughter, and they hated knowing that, but parenting is never easy. especially when she was expected to become the tsahik way back when.
but, ever since a few weeks ago, ever since she finally overcame her own issues regarding leaving the omaticaya, ever since she finally found someone that she loved as much as she loved her family ( and he seemed to love her even more ), she was a new person. a better person. a person who actually seemed to enjoy life.
neteyam and lo’ak were the first to become skeptical. ever since her successful free-dive, she’d been so.. giddy. it was not their big sister.
kiri started to catch on when she noticed [y/n] disappearing four hours at a time, and when she came back, she was ten times happier.
neytiri and jake were so wrapped up in the fact that their eldest was finally living a happy life, they didn’t once question, “hm, why could that be?”
it was only when [y/n] returned home a little late one night after the rest of the family, minus tuk since she was still quite young, had a busy day full of duties. she blamed it on finishing an errand with her new best friend, fali, but neytiri scanned her daughter’s body for any sign of injury. neytiri was just that type of mama bear!
“[y/n],” she began, eyes narrowed at her neck. “did you get bitten today? are the bugs bad on that side of the island?”
[y/n]’s face flushed almost immediately. she swallowed, grabbing her hair to cover her neck. “yeah—” she attempted, before tuk interrupted. [y/n] immediately cursed herself, remembering the stupid excuse that fali and her’d made up to cover-up their “hang-out” when tuk had walked in unexpectedly.
“uh, no, mom,” the youngest said matter-of-factly. “she was playing shark with fali. obviously.”
immediately, the sully family burst into confusion.
“[y/n]!” neytiri scolded, although her eldest daughter didn’t miss the amused smile that played on her lips.
kiri burst into laughter. “that’s why you’ve been so happy? because a guy? who even are you?” she teased.
lo’ak was absolutely losing his mind, face flushed from the laughter he was overcome by at the reality of it all. his big sister, little-miss-uptight, getting her first kiss before him and neteyam? unbelievable!
neteyam was absolutely shocked, face frozen in disbelief. “you? fali?”
jake, of course, was on immediate protective dad mode. “fali? the son of vi’ieo and fpai?” he questioned, eyes squinted at [y/n].
all [y/n] could do was sit there, a hand covering her mouth. of all people, tuk had to expose her. it’s always the ones you least expect.
but, despite the surprise of it all, the sully family was extremely happy. [y/n], the one who entered the metkayina by trying to one-up the tsahik and also deal with her own absolute soul-crushing homesickness, was making a life here in awa’atlu. and they couldn’t be more proud.
someone was suckered into a part ii

What if teen reader was blind? Like her eyes are just crystal clear, BUT she’s blind. And shitty father Ethan probably doesn’t notice or refuses to acknowledge that his daughter is LITERALLY stumbling, tripping, bumping into shit and at one point, falls into the lake and he’s like “qUiT sCrEWinG AroUnD wE hAvE tO FiNd rOsE”
Now with uncle Chris, he probably has some kind of leash around her wrist for him to either gently pull her along, hold her hand, or she just stays behind with uncle Leon while he talks about his days as a cop to her to keep her mind occupied from her shitty father and Rose
You know what? You're so right. Because Ethan would 100% tell reader off for "fucking around" and Mia keeps telling him that this is just your way "seeking their attention" so poor reader is just getting gaslight her whole life.
When she comes to the village, and Ethan abandons her to look for Rose, reader is just so very scared as she stumbles with -100 vision, all while sniffling and trying not to break down. Since she heavily relies on her hearing, sometimes reader will just run straight into a tree if she hears something. Fortunately, she has Handsome now to save her.
Chris is just punching air as he looks at you through his binoculars, telling his team to keep their eyes on you as he decides to go and fetch you himself because at this rate, you're gonna be dinner for those monsters.
I can also imagine the Lords looking at reader with sympathy as she aimlessly swings a tree trunk around to fend monsters off. Heisenberg probably just grumbles under his breath before grabbing you by the scruff of your neck and telling you to "calm down. I'll help you find your sister." before dragging you towards his factory to give you some food and a bed to sleep (and maybe his jacket, poor thing has just been one shiver from hypothermia)
I can also see Lady Dimitrescu just taking one look at you and going "this. This is my child now." Before picking you up from your armpits and carrying you to her castle, softly hushing you as you try to break free.
In general, I think they would all treat you like a frail kitten they found abandoned in the rain rather than an actual human being. And as much as you deny it, you do enjoy the warmth and care they give you.
I don't think Chris would put a leash on you. Maybe a tracker or just holds your hand as he guides you through the woods, but not a leash. That's more of Ethan's thing, especially when he becomes a yandere for you and realises you weren't actually faking any of it.
Now he's got those kiddy backpack leashes you for you, plus Mia put a tracker INSIDE your body surgically (yes, you were not willing so she knocked you out). Now they know where you are 24/7.
Be happy they don't make you wear bell around the house. (They just might in the not so distant future)

Hazbin Hotel Ep 8 Ramble and Theory
⚠️ SPOILERS!! ⚠️
Surprisingly, the show’s first season really got me hooked with its storyline and I can’t wait what’s in store for the upcoming season 2.
I’ve had my suspicions with Alastor since the pilot, and it just keeps growing with every episode. Even then, his real motivations are just hard to really see and it’s what makes his character intriguing. One moment, he’s lurking in the shadows like some sort of villain, and then the next, we see him maaaybe caring for his friends?? If he even considers them that. Idk 🤷
I’ve always thought that maybe he’s sticking around and playing nice to get Charlie’s guard down in the long run. Waiting for her to get desperate so he can strike a deal with her. So he could ask her for any favour in the future. And guess what? That’s what he exactly does in Ep 7.
And if I’m recalling correctly, Alastor helped Charlie with the war, but Charlie is yet to grant her own end of the deal. Alastor STILL is owed a favour from her.
(Where am I going with this theory and analysis? I’m getting there-)
At one point, maybe he did genuinely care for the hotel and the people in it. Regardless what his motives were. He even admits it’s a “surprising thrill” to watch them form connections. But the word choices he uses in this scene are just sooo…weird?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Almost??” “Could get accustomed??”
It sounds like he admits feeling attached to the other characters but at the same time, doesn’t want to commit to it. Does he have far more nefarious intentions in mind for them and that’s why he’s so distant?
Alastor probably noticed this in the ending of Ep 8 too. His altruistic self almost got control of him. He almost risked his life to help his “friends.” And he didn’t like that one bit. Perhaps, he sees this trait as a weakness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It really sounds like the verse“Great Alastor Altruist died” is equal to him stating that “there’s no more Mr. Nice Guy” from now on. He’s disconnecting and staying firm to whatever his highly vague motives are. And it’s highly likely that whatever’s holding him back from his full power is the deal he made itself. And he’s going to try anything to get out of it. Maybe that’s the reason why he approached Charlie in the first place.
Tumblr media
And I’m going back to Charlie’s deal with him here. The only condition she has is that she won’t harm anyone for him. But knowing Alastor, he’s going to twist the words a bit there. Maybe he won’t harm them physically. But maybe in some other way. Indirectly. One that Charlie won’t see in the long run. Maybe he uses this one favour to help him break free of this deal or loosen it in some way.
And Charlie already has so much trust in him after the battle, she most likely won’t see it coming. It’s perfect.
(Not exactly sure how these soul contracts work buuut, she’s the princess right? Maybe she’s powerful enough to do smth about it? Maybe that’s why Alastor was so interested to gain her trust and potentially free himself?)
…….
But anyway! Onto the second part of my theory!
Alastor’s probably going to optimise his one chance of freedom through Charlie’s owed favour. But I have a feeling he’s not only going to use just Charlie.
Who else is at the hotel that the other main cast members trust? Who he could freely command under his control? To show up at his will? Answer his beck and call? Whose souls that Alastor owns?
Tumblr media
I swear. It is NO ACCIDENT that these two were standing side by side. NEXT TO ALASTOR. In the ending. (Or maybe I’m overanalysing, but whatever. This is MY ramble)
Tumblr media
When Alastor comes back from the “dead”, everyone was happy to see him. Especially Charlie. And surprisingly Vaggie? I guess she’s warming up to him. Idk if that’s good or not.
Everyone except Lucifer and Husk. Lucifer’s still bitter on the whole ‘dad’ thing. But I just really felt sooo bad for Husk here. 😂 My guy had maybe a few happy hours of what he thought was freedom. Then he sees this guy come back and he’s just: “Ahhhh… SHT-!”
Now I’m just saying, I don’t think Alastor can just casually go up to Charlie and just easily demand that favour. Especially now that Lucifer might be staying around(?) Also, Alastor sounds like someone who would strategically play the long run if it means benefits. Albeit, less truly altruistic than before since that approach almost costed him highly.
He’s maybe going to have to pull some strings to really make Charlie feel like she HAS to do him a favour. To better solidify his chances and so she’s less likely to be hesitant/reluctant/suspicious. After all, Alastor is only owed ONE FAVOUR. Maybe he’ll pull some strings to win over Lucifer’s own trust too so he won’t be stopping Charlie? (I’m not sure, these two are not in good terms.)
Tumblr media
(Look me in the eyes and tell me this is the face of someone who’s definitely not going to use this hotel for his own personal gain. Things are going to start getting ugly with Alastor’s new approach. I’m also still like 80% sure these 3 characters are placed together for a reason. It CANNOT be a complete coincidence, right?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now I’m really curious how Husk and Niffty would react under this sudden new approach. The angst potential here is smelling strong. It’s obvious that they’re starting to get highly attached to the hotel and really consider the others as friends. Something Alastor didn’t allow himself to.
And it’s not like they have a voice in the matter either. No matter what Alastor tells them to do to secretly manipulate things around the place so he’ll appear like he’s “helping out more.”
Who knows really? What kind of errands he’ll force them to do? “Mr. Nice Guy” is really no longer an option here. That guy is dead. Adam killed him.
And all at the same time, Alastor wouldn’t be breaking Charlie’s condition. He’s not making her hurt anyone at all. Just helping a good old pal, who’s done so much for her, to maybe loosen the constraints his deal has. Or whatever else he wants, I don’t fcking know-
(But Srsly though. The angst??? Niffty and Alastor are fond with each other, but Niffty is also starting to like her new friends too. Will that create some sort of rift? Niffty actually being hesitant??
And don’t even get me STARTED on Huskerdust. Like wtf-? Husk has already stepped out of line before and it left him completely shaken. What else could he do? And a heartbroken Angel finding out he’s behind all this when Husk is the first person to truly reach out to him? Husk not being able to meet his gaze out of guilt?? THE FCK-???)
Yeaaaahhh, can’t wait what Season 2 has for us all….
Remember fellas, this is just a theory. A Hazbin theory! :))

Hello! It's Secret Identity Alastor AU Anon again! <3
Probably an unpopular take but: if they were gonna give That scene to Alastor and Mimzy in 'Dad Beat Dad' where Alastor tells Mimzy to buzz off, then Alastor should've gotten the 'fair weather/toxic friend' plotline rather than Angel Dust (it would've spared Cherri the character assassination at least). Or at the very least a friend betrayal plotline, not even a 'I tried to kill you/other people you started to care about" way, just a, "I actively fed information about you to other interested hostile parties and didn't even give you a heads up when their goons came knocking."
Maybe build it up with Alastor actually being, pretty reliable with doing Hotel things. Have multiple sinners check in for various reasons than just Sir Pentious, like Baxter, Crymini and then Mimzy. Have Mimzy be the spy for the Vees but Alastor totally unwilling to consider it. Have there be an actual mystery of who the spy is, and have Alastor and Vaggie be the main investigators because Charlie is busy trying to get an audience with the branch of Heaven monitoring Hell & running the Purges. Have Husk and Alastor (I prefer AU where they're actually kinda buds but I'd imagine they hold each other at a distance, or are tsundere about it) have an argument about Mimzy possibly being the spy, and have Alastor lose his fucking temper because that's his Bestie that Husk is trash talking (Husk wasn't exactly, but that's the point) and double down because man is literally terrified of looking weak and attackable. Have Mimzy had started to get cold feet about dropping an attack where one of her friends (Alastor) is working closely with, but the siege happening before she can give her friend a heads up. Then the friend betrayal is staring Alastor in the face. Have the attack on the hotel happen because Charlie is out at the meeting with Heaven finally; and thus leaving the Hotel "vulnerable". Have the culmination of the trust exercises for the main cast be the battle to defend themselves and the Hotel.
Then instead of like, talking about what they're actually feeling or whatever, Mimzy doubles down too, tries to play it off like, "there was never anything to worry about, besides, you've always been good at landing on your hooves, Al."
And then Alastor tells her to leave, maybe the whole "[redemption's] not your style" thing could be a callback to her words upon her check in to the Hotel? (Mimzy and Alastor could make up and be friends again in the future after some character development for both, some plot and actual communication between them.)
Then Alastor disappears long enough for the rest of the cast to grow concerned (there would've been, some bonding there?) enough to go looking for him. He's out killing and eating his feelings, he also might be injured from the Hotel Siege but refused to let the other Hotel cast see him look weak.
Also, I feel that one of Alastor's main sins/flaws should be Wrath. People keep assigning him Pride or Gluttony, and while I get it, it doesn't feel all that special or personal. But a vigilante killer in Hell who despite being in Hell still follows a code that punishes those that prey on or victimize the weak (in his eyes)? That's Wrath babey! What if Alastor had his father's temper (if we go with the common fanon that he had an abusive father, who probably hurt his mother while he was helpless to solve the problem in a meaningful way)? And oh, Alastor would be decent at keeping a lid on his temper in everyday life, whether through manners, hobbies, keeping distant, venting on hunting down jerks in Hell, etc, but his main method of self-control is complete denial & refusal to examine his own negative feelings, just keep dancing smiling 'til the curtain call, everything Is Fine, he is perfectly fine. So basically, Alastor's smile is a pressure cooker containing his temper (or something idk metaphor lol), and even he doesn't know when it's going to go off.
Yeah I know my AU version of Alastor is drifting significantly from both "canon" Alastor and long established common fan interpretations of him, but I like the stark dichotomy between the image that Alastor wishes to project as both his identities (the Radio Demon and Alastor) compared to whatever's actually going on in his head and his character arc. I hope this all makes sense or seems coherent to other people who aren't me.
Idk that's all I have right now. Like idk if I'd keep it, but the conflict of interest among friends, even besties, in the survival situation that is Hell could be interesting. It's a fun thought, anyways if you have thoughts, about or to add or whatever, have at it if you want (or not, that's valid too). <3
Got nothing to add to this, but I did enjoy reading it!

meeting your future spouse ™
Tumblr media
BOOK A READING WITH ME
today we're doing a first meeting pac with your future spouse
we have four piles; intuitively choose the pile you're most drawn to.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
now let's go ahead and start ♡
pile i. daffy duck rolling in money
[The hermit, 6oS, Knight of Cups, t.w.n.o.o.t.u, n.t.i.w.w., o.n.s]
This was my face as I was shuffling for you: 😲 you guys haven't been trusting the universe at all right now! the universe asks you to trust, to let go, to make sure that you're healing yourself before worrying about when you and your person will meet. they will come to you!! they will. but you have to let go. only when you let go is when you and your f/s will finally meet. only when you choose yourself over anyone else is when you two will meet. you know a lot of people say that they find love when they least expect it and I do think that will be the case for you, pile one. when you finally choose to put yourself first is when they will come into the picture. but for this you have to let go!! are you staying up late at night watching someone else's profile? seeing what they post and crushing from afar? yeah, let go of that rn😠 act like you need no one bc they'd all be LUCKY to even have a chance with you and this person will come!! when you retreat, when you put yourself first and detach from an unhealthy situation (crushing badly, toxic relationship, self isolation, ect) you'll see that this person will come rushing in. Now for the actual MEETING, well I do see that you meet this person from afar at first. they have a good reputation and they're seen as someone elevated. honestly i get the image of someone watching from afar, trying to act distant like they don't care (this is you btw😭) whilst still keeping an eye on them. you notice them first but that does not mean they don't know you. honestly they haven't heard very good stuff about you when you two meet sorry sorry bUT they still approach you anyways. again i get the image of you trying to act cool and collected, you probably don't even take them seriously. it might be somewhere crowded where you can (metaphorically or actually) feel everyone's eyes on you both. i do see people thinking like oh these two are about to fool around or like nothing can stem from the both of you talking but they're still curious enough to watch. + for some of you this can point to having a crush on them back then without knowing them, as in maybe a social media crush or something like that. like you KNOW them because you've been keeping an eye on them before but they don't know you; they've just heard mean things about you.
additional little notes: forgive, 9, the past, past crush?, problems, do we have beef?, the situation improves
pile ii. a stack of cash being flipped through
[6oS, the world, 9op, l.a.f.s, g.t.h, n.r, m.e]
Hellooo pile two! your first meeting is a weird thing. they keep pulling me to tell you about your second meeting and not your first. first off, I'm praying for you. the energy of your future spouse- wait no scratch that the alleged appearance of your future spouse??? yeah good luck. we got the oracle card "guy is too hot" like what else do we even need??? 😭 you're going to be so caught off guard when you meet them. i don't believe necessarily in love at first sight but it's so likely that it happens to both of you. you my dear lovely pile two, are somewhat of a romantic (this is my nice way of saying erratic in love) you seem to crush on people allll the time. you put big emphasis on the more uhm rated r side of love. like how it'll be, how they'll be and so on and so forth. BUT the crazy thing is, this doesn't happen with this person; you're stuck wanting to know more about them on a even friendship SOULMATE level. they're ridiculously attractive and yet you don't even want to connect bodies you want to connect with their SPIRIT. it's crazy because your way of meeting each other is almost like destiny. I can see you guys telling the story later on in your marriage and realizing that if xyz hadn't changed even just a bit then you two likely wouldn't have met. like true destiny type of vibes in your connection. i do think the reason as to why spirit doesn't want to talk about your first meeting it's because nothing really happens the FIRST meeting. most likely they're watching from afar, immediately in love. and they won't even ask for your name or nothing either, just watches from afar then goes home lmao. it's DESTINY intervening that has you two meeting again and that's when it starts. you SEE them now too. you want to speak to them and learn their name. honestly I do get the vibe that they're a bit more "refined" than you are. as in more polite and with better manners. you're gonna charm the pants off them though, just in a wilder way. def gonna surprise them.
additional little notes: the notebook but with noah as the girl and allie as the boy lol, fated connection, meeting by a friend, charity, travel
pile iii. person counting money next to their cat
[the high priestess, the hanged man, 8oC, remain positive, v.s, mm, s.b]
my dear pile 3s it's all going to get better. you'll see ♡ the energy in this pile is tired. take some rest, you need to sleep. you need to think, be alone with your thoughts and untangle the web that you take great care not to focus on. pile three, you and your f/s will meet in a period of trying to advance knowledge wise. so attending school, college, starting a class, or just in a library. it's going to be during a period that you do not want to be bothered. you and them seem to be on the same struggle boat; whatever it is you're trying to get doesn't seem to want to be gotten 😭 and you are so stressed out. you keep wondering if the dream you're even going for is possible of being accomplished. i do feel like at the time you meet they are not in that situation anymore but they can relate to these feelings. like it was like prior to meeting you they were going through your exact situation but they're better off now. as in like they already accomplished what you wanted to do first. they might see you looking lost in thought or just going through a hard time and approach you only to give you advice or help you in a sort of way. they don't mean anything romantic by it but you look so distressed that they can't help but WANT to help you. and help you they do, I'm seeing that they change your way of thinking. they force you to see things differently. like "hey why don't you try this" or "what are you so afraid of" making you relax and feel more sure and confident. + for some of you I'm getting that later you might find out that this person might've actually been someone who your friends or family tried to set you up on a blind date with prior but you always refused. silly uu <3
Additional little notes: riches, tired, 3, help, a year from now, intuition
pile iv. perfect pink stack of cash being presented
[9oC, 2oW, Knight of Pentacles, R.B, P, T.I.S.I]
my passion pile omg what!!! pile 4 i thought we were starting out cute and loving as we shuffled out the tarot cards then the oracle cards came out and my mouth dropped. one of you is so impatient!! like i can feel it from over here ngl. please be patient, this is coming to you, faster than you think. you see, your first meeting is so intense. like passionate. you might even raise your voice at them the first time you meet. omg okay so this might sound very weird BUT hear me out. this is someone from your past 😭 bUT i know no one likes hearing that but liSTEN. this is someone from the PAST past. as in you knew each other from childhood and maybe never saw them again as you grew up. ever wonder what happens to that one person you went to elementary school with and you just never saw them again. yeah, this is what this is looking like. the last time you saw them might've been since childhood and i know this is a first meeting reading but shush! childhood doesn't count. at least in this case it doesn't cause meeting them again is recognizing them. seeing them and feeling a flicker of the past. feeling like "hey I know you". seeing them is realizing that they've really grown into themselves and that they turned out to be amazing (attractive) people. like all their good qualities that they had when children seemed to have gotten better with time. this is a long gap of not seeing other again by the way. for ex. say the last time you saw them you had just turned 9/10, the next time you saw them you'd be 25 or just significantly older. they'd moved away and come back looking very different but with core characteristics being the same. I do think that at the time of your meeting you'd be getting out of a relationship. a bad one. you never felt yourself, you always felt like you were putting on a show. like you were lying, like it was all an act. and i do think you eventually end it. and when you do, this person pops us; and they have it all it seems. they're happy, successful, and confident. you both immediately want each other; it's intense. something filled with water AND fire. like I mentioned at first, you pile three might have heavy fire in your chart or on the flip side it could possibly be that coming out of that relationship has made you have to be mean and cruel at times. that's why I feel you're not nice to them at first. they're pure water, something pure deep and gracious. you on the other wand are trickier. as you see they don't get bothered by your comments or suggestions, I do feel that's going to make you pause like "huh"; it's going to intrigue you.
Additional little notes: run away, intensity, perform, mask, communication, no!
that was all for today; hope you all have an amazing day and that this pac reading resonated. blessings xx 💞💞

sam, as someone who professionally stalks rich people for fun and profit and therefore have long term observational data on them as a class, how likely is it that the mess that is twitter is musk trying to get out of the loans that are pulling tesla down via bankruptcy, and relatedly, considering that he's obviously doing all the value tanking on his own either through incompetence or malice, how likely is it that it'd end up a bankruptcy fraud case?
The problem is that by the time people get to where Elon Musk is now, most nonprofits have "disqualified" them. It's not that we won't take meetings with them or take their money, but we won't go out of our way to solicit it unless we are willing to take that PR hit. So I haven't researched many people who are malignant supervillains in quite the public way Elon Musk is. War criminals, yes; incredibly unethical finance guys, tons; active public fuckups like Elon Musk? Not as much. So I'm actually less well-educated in this kind of situation than one might think.
I have researched numerous finance guys who were convicted of financial misconduct. They fight it every step up to a point, they do everything possible to seem conventional and innocent...and they take their medicine quietly when it becomes obvious they're going to have to, so that they don't create a three-ring circus and endanger future investments by making too much noise. They get banned for three or five or eight years, and then they either get a shell to do their work for them or they take a three year vacation and then come back and quietly start up again.
As opposed to Elon Musk, who’s just like “I’m not afraid of the FTC. Come at me bro” and then shrieks like a child when they do.
It's actually really difficult to tell what Musk is doing deliberately and what is just overwhelming incompetence. Like, how the fuck do you get where Twitter is this morning without doing it deliberately? But there’s no overestimating human stupidity, its well is bottomless.
I don't subscribe to the Four Dimensional Chess theory that this was planned from the beginning. Musk tried too hard to squirm out of the deal, and he's much, much too sensitive about the way people have seen his actions, for me to think this is part of some master plan. He's also kind of a dumbass. But I'm not sure he's the extreme dumbass he's coming across as, either. It’s hard to know. The second he was forced to buy Twitter, I suspect either he realized, or someone close to him casually said, "You know, you can buy an asset, load it with debt, and dump it, especially if society values it highly enough to want it back from you." So what he's doing now might be deliberate even if it didn’t start out that way.
On the other hand, I have my doubts, because every time he fucks Twitter up he does seem to be demanding someone else fix it. Tanking the value of an asset deliberately generally goes smoother than this to be honest. And I don't credit him as being canny enough to seem this random in order to fool the authorities that he's not committing fraud. So I lean, slightly, towards “Oh he’s just a real dumbass who’s not used to things not going his way.” but I can’t say with confidence that this is the case.
I am also not following this as closely and breathlessly as some, so what I know of the situation is generally osmoted from daily headline reading and whatever crosses my dash on tumblr. I'm not buried in the specifics, so this is coming from a very distant view of what's happening. If he does declare bankruptcy for Twitter, I think there will be a fraud case regardless, because it's such a huge asset and he took it down so fast -- and he himself was so mired in debt -- that there has to be. You can’t just accept it. But I don't think he'll get convicted, if push comes to shove. I think probably there is a large bailout somewhere in his future, because that's just how life seems to roll these days.
I suppose we'll see. Sorry, this is a very ambiguous answer, but I'm working on like 3/4 of the knowledge I'd have if I was asked to do this for work, and I'd do more research but I'm real tired of seeing his incredibly punchable face.

They had made a plane, the noise of the engine wasn’t enough to silence either of the men's minds. Thoughts on what had happened and what would happen were racing through Simon's mind. He had disobeyed Price’s direct order, he had not only completely and totally fallen for (Y/N), but he had slept with him. Simon was compromised and Ghost was as well. While his other persona had screamed and screamed at how they were making a mistake, how they were going to get punished, Simon hadn’t listened, he had completely and utterly allowed himself to be owned by a walking red flag that was incapable of truly loving him. Yet, each time he was shown care and love intoxicated him, it made him dream of what could be if Price wasn’t in the way of their love.
The thought was vile, it made Simon sick to his stomach, but perhaps…
Perhaps…
Just maybe.
In the distant future.
Maybe Price needed to die so their love could bloom.
No, it was appalling, he couldn’t kill John Price, the man who took him in when he had nothing, the man who rescued him from his father. John Price was too important to die.
(Y/N)’s hand was possessively on Simon’s leg, almost as though he was clinging to the hope that them being together wouldn’t immediately be punished. (Y/N)’s mind was going a million miles a minute, trying to find ways he could defend that cherished pet he had gotten in the form of Simon. He had come to rather like him, especially since Simon was rebuilding confidence and becoming a right old bastard. Simon grounded him in reality and helped him keep on point, he hadn’t been lost in his time away, not with Simon there…. He knew his nightmares would start up again the moment he couldn’t share the bed with Simon, hell… Simon’s nightmares would as well, he doubted either of them could sleep after this. Could he even sleep without Simon there?
Not to mention how Ghost would most likely take over again, everything that (Y/N) built up inside Simon, every ounce of twisted love and corrupted care would be washed away as his father got his hands on Ghost again.
Perhaps (Y/N) could ask for Ghost as a gift, though he wasn’t sure how his father would react. John was conflicted about the bodyguard. On one hand, there had been the client dying and the one million pounds of lost cargo but on the other hand (Y/N) knew Simon and this Soap had definitely been how his father coped with not seeing his son grow up. He had probably seen Simon’s failure as his own, the punishment wasn’t befitting of the crime.
(Y/N) didn’t want to know what the punishment would be for Simon if John ever discovered what had happened between them. Time was precious. (Y/N) sighed softly before leaning his head against Simon’s shoulder, the plane would land at any moment now. “My father can’t know, right?”
“No, I think he would kill me,” Simon said. “Or maybe not kill me, but I disobeyed his orders, direct orders.”
“I will protect you, maybe ask for you to be assigned to me.” (Y/N) said.
Simon looked down at the younger man. “And if I were to suggest that we break apart? For your safety.”
(Y/N) sat up and looked directly into his eyes. “I would tell you that you were an idiot, we are both capable men, I am not some damsel in distress.”
“I’m a weakness, (nickname), if you care more than you already do someone would use that against you,” Simon said, ignoring the way his heart was aching and breaking.
“Why do I feel like we are breaking up?” (Y/N) asked. “After everything we have been through?” Cold anger was rising within him, he had immaculate control and yet the fact Simon was stupid enough to even suggest them not even trying, after all their promises to each other were testing every ounce of self-control he possessed.
Simon looked away. “It would just be safer this way, no one would know and you could get a partner you could publicly be with.”
(Y/N) looked away as well, they were amongst civilians, he couldn’t make any rash decisions. “Whatever, have it your way, Ghost.”
(Y/N) shook his hand. “Nice to meet you, I have heard a lot. I’m (Y/N) though you may hear some call me Chip.”
They landed during the afternoon, despite the sun being up and no cloud in the sky, (Y/N) was freezing cold. He looked to a new man he had yet to see who spoke with Ghost while they were catching up, (Y/N) was in the back of the car, he had nothing to say to Ghost or this man he spoke to.
The doors opened and Ghost got into the driver's seat, he was wearing his full mask again, back to normal. The other man looked at (Y/N) and held his hand out. “I’m Soap or John, whatever you prefer.”
“Chip, I have heard about you, son of Viper.” Soap said. “Heard you didn’t inherit her affinity for poison.”
“I don’t use poisons when I kill, I tend to favour information extraction over the kill, it’s a messy but rather fun experience, though the clean-up is horrible.” (Y/N) chuckled, fully intent on ignoring Ghost as he drove them towards his father.
“Oooh, well we may have use for that, Lad, Price has one of the people who were a threat, they aren’t speaking and we need to know if there is more.” Soap said.
“Oh that would be my pleasure.” (Y/N) said, smirking even more.
Soap matched the absolutely feral smirk that (Y/N) had on his face. “You and I are gonna get along just fine.”
By the time they arrived at the manor again, (Y/N) was just chatting with Soap, both men getting closer and closer by the minute. (Y/N) got out of the car and looked at his father before walking over and giving him a nod. “Here I am, safe and sound.”
“I can see that.” Price said. “And Ghost?”
“Did his job, he is safe and in one piece though injured his hand a wee bit back. But he was good at his job.” (Y/N) replied with the praise that Ghost had earned.
Price nodded at that and looked at Ghost. “Get your hand checked out by Doc, just to make sure it’s a’right.”
“Yes sir.” Ghost replied before leaving into the manor.
Soap slung his arm around (Y/N)’s shoulders and looked at Price. “So, I ‘eard a little bird singin’ about how a certain someon’ gets answers out of folk’ easier than a bird finding a lad in a bar.”
“Yes, the infamous Chip and the corpses left behind. What’s your success rate?” Price asked pointedly.
“I haven’t killed anyone with my methods in years, I could get the information you need.” (Y/N) said with a hum. “I do have my drawing kit with me, it shouldn't be too hard to get the information we need.”
Soap whistled. “What’s the order, boss?”
“Sure, let me see what my son can do.” Price said, sounding a wee bit proud. “If you are anything like your mother then I will be proud of you.”
(Y/N) smiled widely. “Is the client here?”
“Aye, downstairs, I can take ya.” Soap said.
“Go ahead and report back to me when you are done.” Price said.
(Y/N) and Soap departed downstairs, the basement was rather cosy but it had a secretly expanded section they used to hold prisoners that they didn’t just want to have in one of their many off-site facilities.
(Y/N) looked at the man and took a picture of his face, he sent it to a friend and asked for information about him. “Can we put on some music?” (Y/N) asked hopefully. “Classical, for low stress.”
“Low stress?” Soap asked, confused as to why (Y/N) would avoid stress in this situation.
“Yes,” (Y/N) said cheerfully, “It prevents them from bleeding out too fast.”
Soap scratched the back of his neck but got a speaker, he put on some peaceful classical music and leaned back against the wall.
(Y/N) hummed along as he disinfected the arms of the soon-to-be armless man. “Hi, I am Chip, you may not know who I am as I don’t normally operate in the UK, but I will be the one extracting information today.”
Soap was genuinely put off by how cheerful (Y/N) sounded, he sounded chipper, another way his name fit him.
“Fuck you.” The man said and spit (Y/N) in the face.
(Y/N) sighed as he wiped the spit away. “Now that was rude, so let's begin~”
“Simon.” Soap entered the other man's bedroom to find him maskless and reading. Soap had a look of absolute dread on his face. “I am never watching (Y/N) get information, ever again. It was pure minging. I canny with that, I ken that he was raised by an absolute weapon but the way he chipped away at that poor lad's arm, I actually felt sorry for him.”
Simon looked at him unimpressed. “Can I get the translation in English?”
Soap sat down and just looked ahead with a thousand-yard stare. “He didn’t bleed out, Si, he is still alive but you can see bone on half the fucking arm!”
Simon shuddered a bit. “He did talk to me about it briefly but to actually see the effect on you.” He chuckled weakly. “Guess we don’t have to worry about not sending enough messages now.”
“The Polis will be all over us if we start dumping bodies like that.” Soap said.
Simon thought about it. “We could always go into the funeral home business, it could be a good way to dispose of bodies.”
“I will take that up with Price, now tell me, how did it go with the lad while away?”
Simon closed his book. “Not bad, he has night terrors, trouble sleeping, a bit delicate when it comes to food though. He has no trouble eating chicken eggs, just not other bird eggs.”
“Who can blame him? It’s a wee bit weird.” Soap said. “But I am glad it went well, (Y/N) praised you to Price so expect to be called in.” With that Soap stood up. “Ah and welcome home, Ghost.” He said before leaving.
Simon sighed and looked up at the ceiling. “Fucking hell…”
He didn’t have to wait long before being summoned, Simon went through the motions of putting his mask on before rolling his shoulders. Ghost looked into the cracked mirror. His emotions fell aside. He was nothing… without the mask. He served no one…. But Price. He was worth less than a dog… right?
Ghost walked out of the room and went up the familiar stairs to Price’s office. He knocked thrice before entering, Price was standing by a window smoking a cigar, the scent was strong in the room. “How have you been, sir?”
“Worried though those feelings have calmed down. The Russians left our turf though Nick stayed back this time, apparently done being a spy in their ranks, which I have been enjoying tremendously.” Price chuckled before looking at Ghost.
“I heard you did a good job.” Price continued as he sat down. “That’s good, I expect nothing less.” The silence was awkward before Price motioned for the chair.
Ghost walked in and sat down, he said nothing, he knew better than to talk when he was in the presence of Price.
“Give me your report.” Price said, though without the usual level of bark.
“We arrived at the winter cabin and stayed for a few days before we were ordered to burn and evacuate, we hit the ground and travelled to France where (Y/N) used his connections to get us a room in this weird hotel, I think it’s connected to an organisation of killers for hire. We met someone called the Purple Cardinal who knew (Y/N).”
“I am vaguely familiar with him, he must be in his 80’s by now.” Price said.
“(Y/N) said he was turning 79 next time. We didn’t stay for long, (Y/N) knew someone called König who lived alongside the border, he used to be close with (Y/N), and from what I saw I assume they had been lovers in the past. We stayed there until (Y/N) could secure a safe house in Sweden, we had just arrived the day before you called us home.” Ghost finished the report.
Price gave a nod. “Good, you have done everything you should. I want you to stay with (Y/N) as his main bodyguard, we both know he doesn’t need it but Roach has proven himself very useful here, I will keep him close and train him up for your old job, this is a promotion, Simon.”
Ghost straightened up. “Thank you, it’s an honour.”
Price looked at him. “If you prefer the mask, you can keep it on, but you have proven yourself capable of protecting the only person who matters to me, you don’t need Ghost anymore, Simon is more than capable.”
Ghost pulled the mask off and looked down at it before looking at Price. “Sir… there are more things you should know before giving me this task.”
Price leaned back and motioned for him to continue.
“I… your son is charismatic and charming beyond what I have ever met before, I know that no matter what you try, half the men and women who work for you will be in love with him the first day he is introduced, then it’s only a matter of time after that. Your son is amazing and I love him, but I will never act on those emotions, no matter what happened to us during our trip.”
“What happened?”
“We haven’t been physical, but we were close, it was me who ended it, (Y/N), as far as I know, will never be capable of loving me or anyone, the way he was raised prevented that. But he cares somewhat, he kept saying he would find a way to protect me.”
Price nodded a bit. “Thank you for telling me this, Simon. I will watch in these following weeks if what you claimed is true, then and only then will I make a judgement on what you just said. Feel free to leave.”
Simon stood up and left the room, still holding his mask. He had either signed his death warrant or he had just saved his own skin and gotten promoted beyond just this superficial promotion.
He walked into the security office and looked at Roach. “Congratulations.” He said.
Roach signed a ‘Thank you.’ and a ‘You too.’
Perhaps Simon was not totally screwed over and fucked… yeah… hopefully.
….
Hopefully

Hello! I like your blog a lot and I am being anon because I am a coward and I don't want to sound rude or judgmental in any way. I wanted to ask why do you like Omi so much? Like, yes, he's the protagonist, but I myself don't like him that much. I would like to understand your point of view!
There are so many elements I love about his character, I really can't fit it all in one post, a lot of it is spread out through my musings throughout the blog.
But I'll just list off 10 random reasons why Omi is my favorite character. Essay under the cut.
1. His relationship with Chase
Tumblr media
Everything about Chase and Omi is so fascinating. It's singlehandedly what pulled me back to this series.
Most aspects of this series are things I've since seen done better in other series that followed in years to come. Some much better.
But Chase and Omi's relationship is something that still feels unique. I haven't seen anything else quite like it in anything else I've read or watched.
They spend time together, they fight together, bring out new things in each other, make old things resurface in each other, like each other even when they know it's dangerous to. They see each other as a mirror, they want to be together, they'll tear apart space and time for each other. They grow close in secret, that have things they can only share with each other. They trust each other despite both of them having deep-seeded trust issues. They respect and acknowledge each other. They show each other affection, they have fun fighting each other. They're worthy allies and best friends.
The fact that they navigate all these complicate mind games against each other is a testament to how well they know each other.
It's Omi who comes to save Chase when no one on the Heylin side ever would. It's Chase who's able to make Omi learn things he needed to learn but just wasn't understanding. It's Chase who comes for Omi to get him to return to the temple in Omi town. It's Omi who tears apart time and space to try to be with Chase.
80 years in the future, Chase still brightens up instantly when he sees Omi. 1500 years in the past, Chase feels deep in his soul that Omi is already someone he knows and loves.
All the secrets between the two of them, all the private conversations, all the underlying things they know they can't say, all the things they'll say to each other that they wouldn't dare speak to anyone else.
They provide each other with something they can't get anywhere else. There are so many reasons why they're fixated on each other.
It's something I can and have gone on about for ages, so I'll cut it there before it takes up my entire list.
2. His defiant, subversive self-love
Tumblr media
I've come to really admire self-aggrandizing humor. I admire characters who can love themselves, even with everything else they have going on.
Self-hatred isn't a virtue, and I'm tired of relating to its self-perpetuating, myopic poison.
I want to love myself so strong that it can be my foundation, too. It's a good thing to know your own worth and never let others shake that, while still being a loving, caring, curious person who wants to connect with others, and that's what Omi is.
I love it even more in Omi because you can clearly intuit where it comes from.
No one at the temple really praised him growing up, they didn't really acknowledge him on a personal level, and despite what were probably their best efforts, they were distant and cold.
Omi didn't feel outwardly loved from the outside-- in fact, he grew accustomed to the idea that unconditional love isn't something he'll ever get, that all he can ever hope for is to earn acknowledgement, because he's not a person the same way the others are.
And in response to that, instead of growing bitter or jaded, he decided he'd love himself unconditionally. He'd acknowledge himself and praise his own efforts and choose himself where he grew up expecting that no one would.
3. His very nuanced, personal belief in redemption and willingness to reach out to others
Tumblr media
Omi has an unshakeable belief that Chase still has good in him, despite everything. But Omi's also very aware of where Chase stands, and he takes that into consideration in their interactions.
Omi is not only willing to believe in Jack and invite him to their side several times with open arms and praise for his skills, he's also willing to give Jack second chances and a type of trust that he doesn't really exercise with anyone else. Omi goes against the other monks always telling him not to, he'll give up his bedroom and share his clothes, he happily compliments Jack for stopping Katnappe.
Omi knows that Katnappe stands more firmly where she is, but he still argues that they should take her in and help her heal up her injury that she got from trying to rob their temple.
Omi is the only one who was against the idea of letting Wuya and Jack die in cold blood.
Omi is the first to argue that Master Fung should Raimundo another chance, but Omi is also firm in drawing boundaries because of how traumatized he was that Raimundo deliberately manipulated the trust they used to have in him in order to hurt them all.
Omi repeatedly argues that Clay and Jessie should try to reconnect, and that Jessie could come to the side of goodness. He deeply believes in her and in the bond she and her brother have.
Omi doesn't extend the expectation of redemption to everyone, and he's very measured where he does, even if he's willing to show them all sympathy. He's very deliberate in who he reaches out to and thinks has it in them to change, and that's a fascinating take on this type of character.
It's not quite a simple naivety. Omi can read certain situations better than he's given credit for. It's something more nuanced and complicated and case-by-case, and I love that.
4. His adoration for his friends, to the point where he's willing to go so far to protect them
Tumblr media
Omi is so scared of squirrels that he'll freeze up at the sight of them. The only time he's ever overcome that was when he had to jump into the fray and fight one to save Kimiko.
That's the moment that stands out most to me as an example of how much Omi loves his friends. There are so many times he shows it, but this is my favorite.
When Omi loves, he loves with his whole chest.
And Omi's loyalty is directly tied to his love. Omi's willingness to sacrifice himself and push himself is tied to his love.
In Judging Omi, they've just had an argument that makes Omi feel that they don't respect his culture and beliefs and the honor that he stakes his everything on, but when he comes back and sees them in danger, he neither does the petty thing of turning against them, nor the reckless thing of thinking he can just run in alone guns blazing and handle it himself.
He takes a risky deal, because the thing he's risking is himself. And he'd happily risk himself to save his friends and his Master Fung. He always does, and he always will.
5. The mentors he adopts throughout the series
Tumblr media
Omi learns from Dashi, Chase, Klofange, ect. The lessons themselves are very cool, and Omi is able to being out a mentoring side of characters who otherwise don't show it.
It's adorable, and it leads to some deeply heart-warming and heart-wrenching moments.
Dashi playing the first Xiaolin Showdown with Omi, until Omi finally learned to go at it from a different angle.
Klofange smiling for the first time since we've seen them, and bending over to pet Omi and thank him.
Everything about the side of Chase that Omi brings out.
6. His complex exploration of the concept of trust as a personal boundary
Tumblr media
Omi initially trusted Raimundo more than anyone else did. Omi trusted Raimundo unconditionally in a way no one else at the temple did.
He watched Raimundo clearly turn against them, and he still believed that it must be a misunderstanding, because trust and love were so intrinsically tied in Omi's mind, and he couldn't imagine someone he thought cared about them being genuinely willing to hurt them all like that on purpose.
And then he did. And Raimundo took it very far before he eventually changed his mind.
Omi still argued that Raimundo still had a right to be there and keep being a Xiaolin dragon. Omi stood up against Master Fung to tell him to let Raimundo come back to the temple and have another chance.
But Omi also maintains his right to redraw his boundaries, because he was deeply traumatized by that whole affair.
Omi gets screamed at for even thinking in the back of his mind that he's scared to trust Raimundo as much as he did before, but Omi doubles down and stands his ground.
He's the embodiment of "Apology accepted, trust denied." The embodiment of "Forgiveness doesn't require that same reconnection." The embodiment of "a stab in the back isn't rectified until it's been pulled out completely and healed by the one who put it there, and sometimes, the person who stabbed you refuses to even acknowledge the knife is there."
And I truly respect Omi for having enough self-respect for that. It's so easy to just buckle when people try to force past the boundaries you try to set. But you have to forfeit your self-respect to let someone walk over you like that, and Omi would never.
It's especially admirable since Xiaolin Showdown's narrative clearly takes the odd stance that "if you firmly reset the boundaries of trust you're willing to have with someone who deliberately chose to hurt you and your loved ones, that makes you a bad person".
Omi is so strong-willed that he won't just go against time and space, he'll go against the narrative itself.
7. He's adorable and he's a water type
Tumblr media
That's my exact strike zone.
He's tiny with a youthful exuberance. He's sheltered and naive with bright eyes. He's stubbornly innocent with precocious hope. He's clumsy with words and has a built-in water gun. He's adorable, and he knows he is.
I love cute things, the little kid characters tend to garner my sympathy, and I always chose the water starters in pokemon.
8. He's suicidally self-sacrificial, not out of any self-deprecation (again, he loves himself), but out of seeing himself as a tool
Tumblr media
Omi jumps to sacrifice himself surprisingly easily.
And glory has nothing to do with it.
When he thought he might grow up into someone who would become evil and hurt his friends, Omi walked off to freeze to death alone.
When the temple was taken over by Jack's evil army, Omi didn't run into a situation he clearly couldn't handle alone. He went to Chase Young for help, fully prepared to sacrifice whatever Chase was going to ask for in exchange for his help.
When Dojo was about to eat Master Fung, Omi jumped in the way as bait and begged Master Fung to run away.
The whole reason Omi jumped into the Yin-Yang world despite the danger was because nothing it could do to him was bad enough for him not to risk it for Master Fung's sake.
But he's very against his friends sacrificing themselves for him, and he tries to leave them out of it when he offers up himself as a sacrifice. He values himself, but he's willing to die, because he thinks his purpose is, ultimately, to be a useful weapon for others.
He argued against the soccer game for his freedom, because he didn't think it was worth it to wager their lives for his. Omi's willing to gamble his own life like a poker chip, but never theirs.
It's this fascinating contradiction. Omi highly values himself, but he doesn't seem to value his own life.
It's this self-dehumanization that doesn't come from self-hatred, but instead from this very peculiar way of thinking.
9. His lonely upbringing and the way it shapes his wants and desires
Tumblr media
Master Fung doesn't really reach out to him. The most he did was back in episode one, calling Omi in from the rain.
Omi has watched his mentor and the person he loves more than life itself grow more and more distant towards him, while Master Fung is fine showing affection to the other dragons-in-training.
Literally all he wants is Master Fung's love, and since Omi doesn't think he can ever get it unconditionally, he tries so hard to prove himself and earn Master Fung's respect and acknowledge instead.
It's heartbreaking but also fascinating, and it informs Omi's character arc, especially the way he clearly feels less and less at home there at the temple.
He already never felt like it was an unconditional home he could stay in.
Omi loves Master Fung more than anything. Omi would die for him, and more impressively, Omi would kill for him. There's this one-sided adoration and affection and devotion that's so painfully, delightfully tragic.
10. His watching his former hero Guan fall from a pedestal
Tumblr media
Guan was one of Omi's biggest heroes. The journey that watching the pedestal break was very interesting.
I loved that Omi personally browbeat Guan into being embarrassed enough to come help them get back Dojo and fight Chase after Guan was going to be perfectly content to just leave now that he had what he wanted.
And it was heartbreaking how Guan later came back with a plan to gaslight and set Omi up to be beaten black and blue, but seeing Guan fall so far from grace in Omi's eyes with those questionable things he kept doing to them is a nice contrast to how Omi gradually comes to love and admire Chase more and more all the while.

Dazai Headcanons
I have a few headcanons on how Dazai acted before he came to be in Mori’s care. There are a lot of theories about where Dazai came from and I love most of them honestly. There are so many possibilities about how Dazai came to be and honestly, I need a light novel about it. Unless they’re going to make it important to the plot and it gets revealed in the next arc or sometime later in the manga.
My favorite theory that I came up with was that Dazai came from a wealthy family. He’s probably the youngest of 2-3 siblings and his parents were the cold and distant but loving type. I like to think that Dazai had a nice family but something happened that pushed him to where he ended up. I am taking inspiration from the protagonist of the No Longer Human book by the irl Dazai Osamu so tread carefully since I will mention some of that stuff. I am trying to keep this one more lighthearted and introspective so some stuff like the se*ual ab*se Ōba Yōzō went through won’t be mentioned.
Warnings: I talk about ADHD, some implied mental illness along with some trauma because Dazai. All of the warnings that can apply to Dazai should be warned (aka his unaliving tendencies)
Anyways the headcanons
INFANT Dazai (0-1 year old)
Was a quiet baby, never really cried and babbled
It actually worried his parents at first because their other kids made a lot more noise as babies
Only really cried if he got super frustrated when he couldn’t communicate his wants effectively
Did started making noises and saying small words around the 10 month mark
Wasn’t very interested in the baby toys that made noise
Building blocks held his interest a tad bit more but even then he grew out of them fast
TODDLER Dazai (1-3 years old)
Started walking around the 1 year old mark
Still wasn’t a big talker but he would give one or two word answers, he just didn’t feel like any more words were necessary
Would walk and point to things if he could, words once again weren’t necessary
Wasn't very interested in toys the kids his age liked
Did have a small interest in listening to his parents work, mostly because his brain was a sponge soaking up all it could
Taught himself to read around 2.5-3 years old, he would memorize stories that the maids would read to him then open the book himself and memorize the words. Basically he worked backwards to learn to read
With the early reading came the early education once his parents noticed his only interests revolved around his brain
Numbers and the lot came easy after learning the basics
PRESCHOOL Dazai (3-6 years old)
Didn’t really understand people and even more so after starting school and started being around kids his age
He observed and copied the actions of the kids around him to not draw attention to himself (*cough*masking*cough*)
Started to make himself act like more of an outgoing and friendly child even if he didn’t understand why that seemed like the preferred personality that people wanted from children. (aye practice for his future self)
Although he transitioned into his persona slowly as to not raise suspicion of an overnight personality change
Thought that his persona could let him understand people a little more but it made him more confused
He totally gave his teachers so many headaches when he first started school
As I said before, tried to mask and hide his intelligence for a while because he didn’t need any attention on him
This failed as he got way too bored of sorting shapes and numbers but he was already reading at a 16 year old skill level at 6 years old
His teachers tried stimulating his academically until they deemed it was better to just move him up grades
Went from his 6 year old class to a class filled with 9 year olds to test the waters
They had to move him to a 12 year old class only a few days later when he made multiple children cry after a multiplication game
SCHOOL AGE (6-12 years old)
You will have to physically rip ADHD Dazai away from my cold dead hands, I stg (I could do a whole separate headcanon for this because him and Ranpo basically make up AuDHD)
I feel like around his 7-8 year old mark is when he really started going tired around the uninteresting things of life, he’s a severely bored kid who doesn’t understand nor have a will to live
I do think around 10-11 is when he started getting interested in suicide as a coping mechanism for all the intricacies of humanity that he did not understand and the fact he started realizing he didn’t have a reason to live
At this point he’s observed people for so long that the masks he parades around of a cheerful but academically gifted child is concrete and there’s hardly anything that can make him break it
Knows why and how people feel certain emotions or react a certain way to things but he doesn’t understand it, not really
There's an ever bigger disconnect between him and people from when he was small that he starts to think of himself as something other than human
Had a bunch of issues trying to stimulate his brain in a way that would take away his boredom as school couldn’t do it for him
While he couldn’t ever really take away his boredom completely, he would take up new puzzles or games to try and give his brain new things to think about. I’m talking like the 3D crystal puzzles or the puzzles with no edge pieces
Anything that could capture his attention was bought in bulk until he eventually got bored of it again (neurodivergent child)
Started taking university level courses around 11, he probably could’ve taken them sooner but his teachers and parents didn’t want to overload them

Im here again, and have you ever thought about all of the cowboy bebop group (including Julia, Vicious, and Gren) playing DND together? this sounds so horrific and maybe even slightly overstimming for me, but also so fun to watch them go insane. What are your thoughts on this idea? (I will be making Headcanons on this sometime in the very distant future. Also, Ed is the DM.)
This made me chuckle. Admittedly, I do not have a ton of dnd experience, but by god I'm not a quitter.
Ed as dungeon master is devious. Their game is long and overly complex. No one can remember all the details and the final boss villain is practically unbeatable. By this point, most people have quit out of frustration
Vicious would be absolutely horrendous to play with. While I do imagine that he would follow the rules to a certain extent, having Spike in his party would never, ever work out. He would likely attempt to kill Spike very early on and would talk little with the other players. Essentially full lone wolf and no real desire to cooperate. He'd probably be a rogue.
Likewise, Spike would also not be that great of a team player. He would likely drink through most of the game, but while he is coherent, I imagine he would work to support the party. Once he is several drinks in, he would fixate on Vicious and their boy best friend drama would consume the game. Due to his martial art expertise, he would likely be a monk.
Faye was born to be a bard. She would initially pretend to be above it all but get really into it. She'd love the drama and would absolutely try and befriend and include as many NPCs as she could. By the end of it, she's definitely customized and leveled up her character the most, due to her risk-taking
Jet is playing as a ranger and he is also getting really into it for Ed's sake. He's too crotchety to admit that he's actually having fun, and he loves the fact that everyone is here together. Like Spike, he has also been drinking, and the further along he gets, the more emotional he gets about his character's backstory.
Gren unfortunately gets killed relatively early on. He absolutely comes in clutch for the team and pulls off some great moves, but gets taken out by a villain about midway through the game. His loss is felt primarily because he was so willing to work in a group. He played as a druid because tbh, that's the most transcoded dnd class to me.
Julia is also a rogue. She initially helps Spike and the others in the game, but around the time Gren gets taken out, she loses interest in aiding the others. Spike and Vicious' drama irritates her intensely and she basically just chills with Faye and helps her chat up NPCs for the rest of the game
If Ed wasn't DM, they'd be a wizard

I'm re-reading chapter 26 right now and I have a few questions 😎 :
- it is mentioned that Violet's name is written a few times in her father's research. Is this something of importance for the future ? Something he figured out about her ? Or simply to show that despite his distant attitude towards the end, he still cared and watched over her ?
- we learn from the early chapter that Dain tries to talk to Violet (on his own and then through Rihannon), but then when he gets to it and challenges her on the mat, he mostly tells her about her sneacking out. Was there anything more ? Or was the whole point to tell her to be careful bc of his dad ?
- Will Liam (and Xaden) ever learn that Violet snuck out into her mother's office ? Will Liam feel betrayed if they do ? Will Xaden lose his shit knowing that she still managed to do it under their noses and try to go a step further to protect / keep tabs on her ?
- I have to admit I was a bit " disappointed " (BIG "" here because there is absolutely nothing disappointing about this whole masterpiece and I trust you 100% with it !!!) the first time I read the chapter to know that they put the research back into the office and didn't leave with it, will they retreive it one way or another though ? Can't accept the fact that Violet got all there was to get about it from the few glimpses she got here
Of course! Here we go:
1. This is just to show that he was still paying attention to her and aware of her. I think of those papers more as personal scribbles than any true form of “research”—thus the mentions of Violet and the letter to Lilith at the end. It’s just a collection of his thoughts right before he died, even though some of it may have eventually turned into something more academic
2. Yeah so Dain had been trying to talk to her and issue a general apology for a while, but after he saw her sneaking into her mom’s apartment he decided the casual approach was no longer working, thus the challenge to get close enough to warn her about his dad
3. Yes! Betrayed probably not, more like. . . resigned. No one will be surprised. After Violet makes her grand announcement that she knows about venin, moving forward there won’t be a point to her sneaking around. She’ll just tell Liam where she’s going and he can choose to tag along or not (spoiler alert, he chooses to tag along)
4. The reason they left it is because Violet is working on the assumption her mother either knows those papers are there or hid them there herself, so she didn’t want to take something Lilith would miss. But it will come back up

This is for way later in the future, but how would the family feel once they realize Zote's age is showing as he is the only "mortal" in the family. I'm guessing it would start with him walking slower and getting out of breath and cant keep up with the kids as often. I know you talked about him potentially joining the troupe, but there has to be a turning point in his age and condition.
Since he's still quite young at the time, that's not something any of them has processed just yet. Their worldview is a little biased but default - none of them age after a certain point, so death from old age always catches them by surprise.
So yes, this is for a very distant future. Which would make the realization hit even harder, since at that point they're so used to having him around they didn't even really consider that one day they would have to say goodbye.
Holly would probably take it best, Zote is their best friend, no matter how mean he might be, and they wouldn't want to see him go, but they would do anything in their power to make his life better. They're much better at controlling their emotions so it makes sense that they would find it easier to focus on what's important.
Hornet would be very upset, but she would try to hide it and react in anger. "Why are you surprised, of course he was always going to die". She'd snap at others for bringing it up, but only because of how much that thought upsets her. It took her a long time to accept that she finally has a family who are there for her and that life may not be as cruel as she thought before. So Zote's mortality would be a painful reminder of all the loved ones she lost in the past, and would inevitably bring out that anxiety of losing her family again.
Grimm would seemingly not react at all, but deep down the thought would sadden him more than anyone would expect. He dealt with mortality before, he ended a relationship because he couldn't stomach watching his loved one age and die in front of him, so seeing a family member go through that would hit him on a quite personal level. It makes sense that he would suggest joining the Troupe to avoid that fate, he did that to his old love, and even though they refused, he would still try it here.
FPK doesn't have the same past experiences as Grimm, but the immortal being bias would definitely show itself here. During his early life, the only cause of death he was familiar with was starvation or being killed by someone or something else. Throughout his rule, some of his retainers passed away from old age, but they did so surrounded by their own families, so he only heard of it in passing. Then the infection decimated his kingdom, and once again he witnessed cruel death around him, not the peaceful death you'd expect from old age. So now, having finally found a happy life, the thought of witnessing old bugs die didn't exactly cross his mind. Yes, Elderbug was there, but for some reason FPK always saw it more like a title rather than a reminder of the mortality of those around him. That said, by the time Zote starts showing signs of old age, Elderbug, Quirrel and some others would likely not be around anymore, so he would be more familiar with the concept. But seeing it within his own family would still hit him really hard. He wouldn't know how to act, the thought of saying goodbye would terrify him. Even just seeing Zote's condition would stress him out.
The kids would all be grown up by then, and I think they would be the ones handling it best. They would of course be very sad, but they grew up in Dirtmouth, and as I said before, they would be aware of the mortality of the bugs around them. They didn't live for as long as the others so they wouldn't have the same warped view on aging and growing old, which means it would be easier for them to get used to the concept. Lewk especially would probably have the most mature reaction aside from Holly, since he would grow to be the most involved with the community and so he would be the first one to know whenever someone passed away. Asta would also handle it well, she'd grow up to be a bit of a troublemaker but she wouldn't have the same inner anger as Hornet, so she would have a far less emotional response to it. Milo would find that concept the most alien out of the three, mostly because he'd rarely leave the house so he wouldn't be as aware of what happens outside. Perhaps his reaction would be the most cold, not in a mean or cruel way, he would just silently accept it. The old die, that's just how things go, he can't do anything about it. I definitely think he would grow up to be a bit pessimistic, and situations like this would show that side of him.

⭐️⭐️!!
some pretty on the inside lore 😘💕🍒
David ached, but it wasn’t the sort of ache he was used to. It was an appropriate ache, the kind that came after a long, long night out, and the gentleness of the realization that he probably didn’t have sex the night before was like a butterfly landing on the tip of his nose.
He was in New Orleans. That much he was fairly certain of, but as he felt through his pockets he didn’t feel any money, and he couldn’t remember when and how he had lost his client in the heat of the night, and he certainly couldn’t remember who the man in the bed was.
so the big Thing with including this section in the first place is that that's Gene lol who is - similarly - in the death throes of his Party Monster era before he has to legitimately put his nose to the grindstone instead of a deep well of drugs. it came as a wayward Funny Idea between sarah and i that they would have had this crazy, raucous night out where it's unclear exactly if anything Happened between them and neither of them even remember meeting each other.
Rubbing over the greasy lids of his eyes, David sighed. What was the point trying to form any connective tissue between the disparate elements of his life anymore? There would be things he couldn’t remember, it was just a fact. It was either remember everything, or remember nothing.
I remember nothing, he quoted aimlessly in his head before groaning. He had to go home. He had to read David Copperfield again.
a huge part of Web in this story is just how much he actually remembers the events of his life while simultaneously trying to convince himself he really doesn't remember anything. part of that is a symptom of his deep unhappiness and part of that is just the privilege of being able to make mistakes when you're young and assume that they won't follow you or have an impact on the way you live your life. we've all had moments like that, which is what my primary intention is in illustrating this time in Web's life, where he's doing this enormous, loaded thing and just assuming that it will be something that stays where he leaves it and not weep out into every other area of his life and his future. it's hard in a hundred ways to be young, not the least of which is that you don't always know when you've gone too far in one direction.
Struggling to his feet as silently as he could he allowed himself a moment to be purely happy at the fact that he still had his phone at all, even if the absence of payment made his pockets seem large, vacuous with disappointment. He looked at the man in the bed for a moment, almost wishing he could remember him, if for nothing else but to know why they hadn’t had sex. It had been a long time since he’d found himself in a situation that wasn’t transactional, either by design or by chance, and this stranger in the bed who had let him sleep on his floor was a mystery to him.
He’d thank him if he understood it more.
it's nebulous Here but the idea is that at most they did make out that night. and sometime in the not too distant future Web realizes this, shares that information with Gene under the Auspices of thanking him for looking out for him before they even really knew each other, and this interaction comes to be Extraordinarily misunderstood by their entire friend group lol but that's a fic for another time.
i guess suffice it to say Web's past is always present lol

A Few Words About 1981
Time, Electric Light Orchestra's 1981 science-fiction concept album tells the story of a man who is transported to the far distant future of 2095. The album explores his homesickness while observing the many ways the world has changed around him. During "The Way Life's Meant to Be," bandleader Jeff Lynne sings, "I wish I was back in 1981." Lynne has never explained why he chose to use the year the album was made as the year the time traveler comes from (probably just convenience), but I've always found that yearning to return to 1981 in particular to be funny, because if people had a time machine to go back to the eighties, I highly doubt anybody would pick 1981.
For a long time, I've loved looking through Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 singles list for [insert year]. I think it's really fun to look through them and often times you can really get a good idea of what was insanely popular during a given year. Lots of stuff gets big or falls through the cracks in a given year, but this one is the stuff that everybody vibed with (or got utterly annoyed with).
1981 is a weird one. 1980 is considered a much worse year (a lot of really boring, nothing ballads got super big that year) but '81 isn't the winner that the '83-'85 years are considered. When people (over)romanticize the eighties, they're mostly going crazy about that chunk of the decade and 1987. The early eighties have no idea what the hell they're going to be yet. Then again, no decade ever knows what it's gonna be right out the gate. I think people tend to have this idea that the ball dropped on December 31st, 1979 and suddenly it was THE EIGHTIES! It doesn't work that way. Often times, the first two years of a decade are strange and they serve as a transition point.
1981 is definitely a transitional year. It's one of my favorite years in music due to just being an oddball time. Lot of strange new wave stuff was slowly crossing over, arena rock bands were really ramping up and beginning their reign, early eighties R&B was starting to find its groove, and more. The Hot 100 list doesn't reflect most of what was happening. It rarely does, but it is a really good starting point when trying to figure out what some of the biggest stuff was for a good chunk of the year. If you ask me, the eighties don't become the decade everybody loves until Duran Duran releases Rio and Michael Jackson makes the video for "Thriller." You can start to see the beginnings of what the eighties will become with 1981, but it's also not quite there yet.
So, this playlist explores that Year-End singles list and attempts to give a good overview of what was going on at that time. I listened to all one-hundred songs and cut it down to the best thirty. It was originally going to be twenty, but I found that I liked too much of the list to limit it that small. These songs are not arranged from #30 to #1, rather they're arranged in a way that highlights connections between certain songs, common themes, and hopefully ends up highlighting all the different musical worlds that were enjoying success during the year.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some Words Regarding The Process Behind This Track Listing
There were three John Lennon hits that year, which is fitting, considering he was killed in December, 1980 and everybody was still shaken about it for most of '81. I picked "(Just Like) Starting Over" as the representative, since I think it's tragically ironic and also reflective of why people were so upset about Lennon's murder. (Note: For the curious, "Woman" and "Watching the Wheels" were the other two hits that got big from Double Fantasy).
After Lennon, the next four songs highlight the last of the disco refugees (Diana Ross, Queen, and A Taste of Honey) and the final whispers of the previous decade (Tierra). "I'm Coming Out," "Another One Bites the Dust," and "Sukiyaki" are the songs that are just on the cusp of being eighties funk, but they're still clinging to disco in a lot of ways. "Together" by Tierra sounds has all the sonic hallmarks of a seventies one-hit wonder... but somehow came out in 1980. That's what I mean when I say that you can hear those final whispers of the previous decade.
There was a good deal of country crossover on the list. Not a lot of it survived the cut for me, mostly because a lot of it is corny and lame in a bad way. Kenny Rogers had three soft ballads get big in 1981 and I dislike all of them. Unless names like Eddie Rabbitt, Terri Gibbs, or Rosanne Cash mean anything to you, I don't think you'll be upset. Personally, I'm a much bigger fan of country in the nineties. The very best of the country crossovers are represented here. I went with Ronnie Milsap's "(There's) No Gettin' Over Me," Juice Newton's cover of "Queen of Hearts," ("Angel of the Morning" almost beat it, but I think this one is more fun) and finally, "9 to 5" by Dolly Parton. The three country songs here are light and super fun and I think represent that the country music world was having fun during the start of the decade and finding crossover appeal with the masses beyond Nashville.
After our journey to country, we explore some of the team-ups that got big during the year. "Suddenly" (a great love song from the not-so-great movie Xanadu) sees Olivia Newton-John and Cliff Richard together, "Guilty" sees Barbra Streisand and Bee Gee Barry Gibb at their best, and Bill Withers lends his vocals to an all-time classic Grover Washington, Jr. cut ("Just the Two of Us").
Ray Parker Jr. (still with his band Raydio) shows us some early eighties R&B magic and good advice with "A Woman Needs Love (Just Like You Do)" and the Commodores and Kool & the Gang bring the funk and the party with the classics "Lady (You Bring Me Up)" and "Celebration" (the definitive party song to end all party songs). These songs are missing the disco elements that were still found with Diana, Queen, and A Taste of Honey and represent the direction funk music was heading in. Lionel Richie would pivot away from the funk as the decade went on, but the funk was just getting started for Kool & the Gang.
After the funk, we take a look at what arena rock bands were doing. In 1981, they were worried about romantic relationships. "Don't Stand So Close to Me" finds a teacher being in a secret relationship with a young student and worried about people finding out. "Urgent" finds Foreigner in panic mode. The narrator is worried that his love is being taken advantage of and only used for one night stands. REO Speedwagon enters into the frame, worried that a certain someone has been doing some cheating (though they heard this from a friend who heard it from a friend who heard it from another...) Styx lightens things up by having fun and goofing around while Tommy Shaw laments that he has "Too Much Time On My Hands." These four bands are good indicators of where rock was heading in a world where a lot of the seventies rock giants were beginning to find themselves in unknown waters.
Speaking of unknown waters, Yacht Rock was still sailing the seas in the early eighties and three representatives are found here. Cool cat Boz Scaggs sings a groovy song for "Miss Sun," Christopher Cross sings about the movie Arthur and tells you the best thing you can do when you're caught between the moon and New York City in "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)," and Steely Dan tells the tale of pathetic older dude pining for the past and finding it hard to relate to a nineteen year old girl he's trying to pick up in "Hey Nineteen." These three represent the smooth cool cats that weren't pop, but weren't rolling with the arena rock of the moment either.
Speaking of pining for the past, 1981 was a year where some bands and artists gave us some throwbacks and tried to capture that old rockabilly jukebox sound that Lennon was doing at the start of the playlist. Heart provides a wonderful cover of the 1966 Aaron Neville classic "Tell It Like It Is" and The Manhattan Transfer present a lovable and fun little cover of the 1964 Ad Libs song "Boy From New York City." Bruce Springsteen gets in on the throwback fun with the awesome "Hungry Heart," and Electric Light Orchestra lead us into the future while still writing a love letter to the past with "Hold On Tight." These songs all have the common thread of "everything old becomes new again" and are the earliest examples of the eighties bringing the sixties back to life and turning it into something brand new.
The last five songs presented have no unifying theme, they just ended up being my five favorite songs on the list. "Kiss on My List" and "Jessie's Girl" are both fan-fucking-tastic songs and show how good both Hall & Oates and Rick Springfield were as songwriters. I never get sick of those songs. "Time" by The Alan Parsons Project is my favorite ballad on the list. Vocalist Eric Woolfson had this whisper like quality to his delivery that nobody else had. The entire song is just this beautiful, melancholic, transcendent song. The whole thing feels like it's floating. It sounds the way that the bright stars at night look. Just wonderful.
The final two songs feature fantastic performances from two dynamite women. Sheena Easton's "For Your Eyes Only" is my second favorite Bond theme ("Nobody Does It Better" beats it) and "The Winner Takes It All" is the greatest song ABBA ever laid to tape. Both are these sweeping pop masterpieces and Sheena and Agnetha Fältskog deliver some of the finest performances of their careers on them. You feel every emotion and every detail is done so incredibly well. I'm hopeful that you'll find the playlist ends on a high note!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Thank you for indulging in this little experiment. :) Making playlists is a lot fun and I'd love to make this a semi-regular thing if there's an interest for it. So let me know your thoughts and opinions if you have them! I would love to hear from you! Thank you.)
