My fan theory for @avasdemon is everything ends up okay and years later everyone grows into happy people who enjoy life THE END. Criticism and critiques of this theory will NOT be welcome. Please stack your chairs as you leave the assembly.

Odin Arrow when he has his pact and has consumed his own Vial 💀😈🧃💜💜💜
Tumblr media
This is a fan edit of boy Odin, I used the original image:
Tumblr media
This was fun to make I always envisioned what the others would look like so I decided an edit would be my first fan art for the fandom. I used the following images as references, I copy pasted the vial but added abit more details, the rest was drawn and painted by me. ^^

The My Inner Demons hyperfixation continues. This time, with some of the humans, including Ava herself! I probably won't do all of them (after all, small little one-liner characters that are not integral to storytelling probably wouldn't get a design), but I at least plan later on for Lorelai's friend group and develop more on them, as well as Marlene and Mrs. Oats. I'm going back and forth in between the Daemos and Earth casts as I go. (Also please, if fellow fans have any ideas of character development for Jake, please share. He's just an awkward man that crushes on Ava and not much else is told about him otherwise, but I like what little character he has going on in the series.😭)

redesigning and making ref sheets for some old OCs for artfight, starting with my ELITE follower Syntagmatarch Four <3
the supreme judge and diplomat, overseeing the legistlation of TITAN's laws in every single colonized system, as well as ensuring that everything runs smoothly (politically speaking)
every trial they participate in ends with a guilty veredict, so that's fun! their personal weapon is "Fair Judgement" - a scale they use to judge peope, which turns into a sniper rifle that tracks its targets with bullets that corrode someone from inside out, therefore "exposing their corruption" (TY DOL FOR THAT <333·). lots of "if you were innocent, you wouldn't have been accused in the first place" vibes and they DESPISE being told they're in the wrong

"Drink from the Leche of sirens
Summon the sailors in town
Strangle the fear of deciding
Which one's deserving to drown~"
My idea for Vial!Gil I might do ones for Maggie and Odin too.

Creator Spotlight: @tinypaint
My name is Michelle Fus. I’m a Jewish, non-binary artist. I graduated from the School of Visual Arts for Computer Art and Animation in 2011. I’ve interned at Pixar and worked for a few years at Dreamworks Animation. Over the past ten years, I’ve self-published two books and have run three successful Kickstarters. I now work with Skybound (The Walking Dead, Invincible) in developing my webcomic, Ava’s Demon, as a physical book series for stores. I like hiking, cultivating plants, caring for my cats, and hanging out with my beautiful husband. You can read my webcomic at avasdemon.com.
Check out our interview with Michelle below!
How did you get your start in art, and more specifically, with Ava's Demon?
I’ve always been into art since I was very young. I started to gravitate towards it in first grade, where we were required to keep a daily journal. I found myself drawing in it more than actually keeping entries. From there, I got more and more interested in honing my skills as an artist. I started making my own comics for fun. I signed up for classes outside of school and put together a portfolio for the School of Visual Arts, where I majored in Computer Art and Animation. After getting my first job in the field, I realized that it wasn’t what I wanted to do with my life. After working my day job, I would come home and work towards building a career in comics for myself by creating and uploading my webcomic, Ava’s Demon.
What is one habit you find yourself doing a lot as an artist?
Looking things up to learn more before I make art or write. For instance, how many livable planets are in a Galaxy? What does a black hole actually look like, and can it give off light? How long would it actually take to travel through space if you had the fastest ship possible? I look up all of these things and then ignore most of them for the sake of writing a fun story and making fun art.
From idea to final piece, how long does it take for you to create something?
It depends on the feeling I want to convey. Sometimes I’ll work for a whole week on a drawing and then delete it because I just don’t feel good about it. Other times I’ll make something in a day that I absolutely love from beginning to end. Some drawings I never delete nor finish, and instead, the files just kind of sit in a folder. The time it takes varies a lot.
Over the years as an artist, what were your biggest inspirations behind your creativity?
I really love good stories. So movies and books with captivating stories usually motivate and inspire me; stories that stay with you permanently, with twists and turns that you can’t stop thinking about. I also love finding characters whose struggles I can deeply relate to. I try to hold onto those feelings and emulate them through my art.
What is the hardest part of your process?
Actually finishing a drawing. The anxiety of it piles on me sometimes. I’ll work for a while on a drawing and constantly ask myself, “Is this drawing really finished? What terrible things about it am I not seeing?”. My desire to avoid making something terrible can sometimes put me in a mental prison where I keep chipping away at a drawing until I no longer know what I am looking at.
What is one interaction you had from a fan of yours that has stuck with you over the years?
In general, I like letting young artists in middle school, and high school know that I wasn’t very good at art at their age (I really wasn’t, I didn’t have the same resources they have now, and I didn’t have any perspective on what it takes to have a career in art, it’s a different world). Kids have come to me at conventions with their work for critique and advice, and I have to tell them that they’re already miles ahead of what I could make at their age. I have to tell them that it’s okay if they can’t make what all the professionals make online, to know that they have SO much time ahead of them to work at what they love. If you love making art, do it often, study art throughout history, and over time you’ll be able to create everything your heart desires.
What is something other people find hard to draw that you find enjoyable?
I have no idea. Sometimes it feels like drawing anything is suffering, even if you like what you’re making.
Who on Tumblr inspires you and why?
@loish has been consistently inspiring me since my days in high school. Every new painting has so much grace and power and is so excellent to look at. Her skill in shape and form seems limitless, and I hope to someday achieve even a small fraction of her understanding of art. Seeing her new work on my timeline also makes my dopamine spike, so I’m always looking forward to updates from her.
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing, Michelle! Be sure to check out their Tumblr blog over at @tinypaint and follow their webcomic, Ava’s Demon, over at avasdemon.com.

I love your Pokemon comics so much! I've reread them a ton of times, EAA has become such a comfort read. I just adore how you make Alola feel so alive, and the characters all feel so much more complex and interesting. Out of curiosity, were there other comics (Pokemon or otherwise) that inspired you? And are there other Pokemon fan comics you like or would recommend?
AWWWW Thank you so much!! 🥹🥰 Actually, I wasn't really inspired by any other Pokemon comics at the time I began making my first short comics. Despite Pokemon having one of THE most MASSIVE fandoms on the internet, it's honestly surprising how little ongoing fancomics there are. I've seen many artists starting Nuzlocke comics but I only know of ONE artist who ever finished drawing one (And I'm ebarrassed to say I didn't fully read it yet and don't know the name of it anymore, it's been so long 😂)
I think if there was any comic inspiration at the time in 2016, it must have been the webcomic Avas Demon. Not in terms of STORY or genre, but in terms of how the story was told in a 16:9 format like a storyboard or color test for an animated movie. I took a lot of inspiration from that in the way I boarded the comic and wanted to make it feel like a movie sequence, making more individual panels with varying expressions. But that ALSO ABSOLUTELY blew my work-load on each comic out of proportion, thus resulting in VERY irregular updates due to how detailed my backgrounds and shading became plus A LOT of additional poses like here for example:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm proud of what I created back then, but after the most recent Arc I have decided to step BACK from this approach and have now heavily simplified my shading and am experimenting with reusing backgrounds and using new panel sizes and formats 😂 You'll see what I mean in the upcoming update this week. Surprisingly enough, I don't think the quality of art has dropped because of these changes! Also my love for adding additional expressions between panels has remained, they're just my favorite thing to do to bring life to the comic!

some weirdly specific artist game questions im answering while eating dinner. im gonna use my truly abysmal surface pen so theyre gonna be jittery af.
Tumblr media
2. Is it easier to draw someone facing left or right (or forward even)
Tumblr media
8. What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in I feel like I don’t lose interest in projects so much as I run out of time to do them nowadays. I had a bunch of ideas for a shortbox comics fair project and then got too busy to execute and meet the deadlines. same with some zines... I still want to do them!! Idk when though. I guess when I was a kid I used to be interested in more ambitious original writing, long form fantasy type stuff. I think if you really dig through my archives you can probably find ocs from ideas like that but I don’t have a lot of interest in pursuing stories like that anymore because... idk even writing short things is tough for me.
Tumblr media
11. Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself
Tumblr media
I think this is mostly because ive been “finishing” art less lately? or like... making less small things and more singular big/complex illustrations? idk. it’s tough, I want to post more because I like posting art on the internet. I grew up watching other people post art on the internet and wanting to do the same. there’s a lot of artists who don’t like it but its fun to me. unfortunately this whole year has kind of been like a non-posting year tho.
26. What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation from what you intended
Tumblr media
25.  Something your art has been compared to that you were NOT inspired by Uhhhh this is tough idk. I think I’ve gotten like...ava’s demon before?
Tumblr media
Which doesn’t make a lot of sense to me looking at the style alone but does like...make sense in the way that I think I share similar cultural inspirations with that comic like...being online in the mid 2000s...deviantart digital art type stuff. So even if there isn’t any direct inspiration there’s some shared dna probably.   I think I’ve hard art compared to transistor (the supergiant game) too and I think its like. a similar story there. Heck, If i drew more sexy characters my inking tendencies would probably get my art compared to hades just with how big that art style is culturally rn.too bad i only draw dumb looking kids.
Tumblr media
I’ve never played a supergiant game. they look very nice and I rly respect them as a company but they’ve yet to make smth that’s really up my alley.
(unrelated but tumblr user wellnoe I’m a huge fan of ur art you have one of the biggest brains in xmen fanart imo...!! thanks for sending in an ask LOL ;-;;;)

I was tagged by @waitmyturtles (thank you <3) to do the spotify random list. I don't use Spotify - so I shall put my current personal playlist on shuffle and list the first 10 songs that play. I have music on here from yesterday and from 15 years ago, so this is going to be fun! :D
BigBang - Fantastic Baby
youtube
I heard this song my first year in China. I had never heard K-Pop before hahaha. I've had a soft spot for this song since then, as it was the first non-chinese song I'd heard in public in nearly a year.
2. Paloma Faith - Upside Down
youtube
I went to an open-mic night at a bar in China between two of the covid lockdowns in 2021 and an acquaintance of mine sang this song. I love the genre and the lyrics.
3. Proxie - Silent Mode
youtube
Look, the music from My School President hooked me, I watched the concert, and then found so many amazing Thai artists from there. Proxie is one of them.
4. Demon Hunter - Carry Me Down
youtube
This song has been in my playlists for so long, I don't remember when or how I found it lol
5. Gemini and Fourth - You're Blushing
youtube
I like both of their voices and this song is light and summery. But let's be honest - I have every MSP OST and adjacent song in this playlist.
6. Elvis Presley x JXL - A Little Less Conversation
youtube
Throwback to high school. From an AMV playlist curated by my group of friends who turned out to all be queer - not surprising from a group of art and D&D nerds!
7. Ava Max - Kings and Queens
youtube
I tend to search for FMV's for all my obsessions (old habit from highschool days) and this song was used for a multi fandom edit. It went straight into my girl power song category :p
8. Pet Shop Boys - It's a Sin
youtube
For some reason, considering how into classic rock and older music my whole family is, this song didn't cross my radar until it was on a Bad Buddy playlist here on Tumblr. How could I not love it?
9. IVE - Love Dive
youtube
Another multi fandom song edit. That edit used a male cover of this song, but as I have no idea who the artist is (sorry!) I'm linking the original IVE version here.
10. 5 Seconds of Summer - Teeth
youtube
The art teacher at the kindergarten I taught at loved this song. Every time we had to stay late to do prep work, we'd blast it at full volume. I think it has also been used as a fan edit favourite for almost every single romantic pairing ever.
It's missing some of my top favourite artists and songs, as well as some that are currently on repeat, but not a bad random selection of my musical taste. It's been fun! I've been taking notes of songs to check out from everyone else's lists, so tag me in if you do do this. If you've been tagged before, ignore this, and if you want to do it and haven't been tagged, take this as your invitation! @sorry-bonebag, @petrichoraline, @chalkrevelations, @toastedpoptartsarelife, @user-patpran

On this (honestly spur of the moment) side account I made to kind of interact with discourse that I felt was too adult for my “main” of sorts, I’ve mostly been perusing around the hh and hb critical scene and while I think a lot of you have great criticisms, I think a lot of it is just spite.
And to those who have been attached to the project and are disappointed by the final product, I completely get it — you likely feel like you’ve been personally let down and that a lot of potential has been squandered, that a lot of what you wanted to see is not there. It’s easy to kind of trap yourself in this cesspool of dissatisfaction and underwhelment, I’ve been through it before, so I come with an offering.
After having seen the show as an outsider, I had this nagging sensation that I had witnessed similar media before, but I could not remember what it was. Then I remembered it, so.
If you want content that plays with similar ideas, aka sins, hell and religious critique, please read Ava’s Demon. It is an indie comic about a young girl and the demon that has been locked inside her and slowly ruining her life from the moment she was born. It has amazing artwork, great character designs, diversity and most of all; an emotionally provoking and powerful story.
I think everyone has gotten caught in this cycle of hatred, and I don’t think you can really criticize artwork with just hatred, you have to do it because you love art, and you love it’s possibilities. Spite is just gonna get you trapped in an unending spiral and I’ve seen this happen a lot in critical spaces — being critical is not the point of the problem, it’s the disdain and often times it’s also a sense of arrogance people develop towards the works and the people at the center of them. I get that there’s a lot to hate — I hate it too, but you can’t really work to criticize something with only malice. So, I recommend everyone read Ava’s demon, it’s not a perfect piece of work, but I think rereading it reminded me of the limitless potential stories like this have, and I think other people need that, to put all this energy into something positive. There are other works of religious commentary with a supernatural and fun twist out there too, I definitely don’t know them all, but I think Ava’s demon is worth more attention, especially with all of the interesting concepts at hand, and I’m definitely a fan of the work. I feel the artist behind the work deserves more support as well, to whom this work is very interconnected to their own life.
I have no real clue why I’m saying this, maybe it’s just because I tend to run in critical areas of a community and I always notice when it starts to teeter into going too far, maybe it’s because I’ve caught myself in this cycle at least more times than I can count. It’s important as an artist or as someone interested in the arts to remember what you love about art, getting caught up in flaw will only make things worse. You have to take both in a balance.
