What if Veneer Didn’t Catch Velvet?

Then Velvet dropped. She reached to catch Floyd who was floating in his Diamond prison, but she stumbled down. Veneer hurriedly attempted to catch her. He was too slow. Velvet shrieked as she plummeted down; her descent halting only when her skull collided with the yacht's floor.

In the sudden lull that followed Velvet's fall, time seemed to freeze. All eyes were fixed on her, including Veneer's, his voice a whisper as tears streamed down his cheeks. His body shook, and his eyes burned. "Velvet? No, no, no," he cried out, his voice cracking from the weight of emotions he was feeling.

In the moments that followed Velvet's fall, the teen pop star sprang into action, leaping from the floating device and rushing to his sister's side. As he arrived, he was met with a chilling sight: Velvet's eyes were glassy, her nose bleeding fresh red. "N-no..", he muttered, trying to force himself to hold her head up. The sound of his heart pounding in his ears was all he could hear, the once bustling Mount Rageous now eerily quiet as everyone stood still, too stunned to move or make a sound.

"Velvet... please... wake up. Please wake up!" Veneer's voice cracked under the weight of his grief. He shook her, hoping desperately for some sign of life, but she remained still and lifeless. Tears streamed down his face as he hugged her tightly, weeping uncontrollably. His cries filled the air, piercing the silence of the concert venue like a siren's wail. It was as though the entirety of Mount Rageous could hear his pain, echoing his sobs back to him and amplifying them a thousandfold.

"Wake up, Velvet, please! Please wake up!" Veneer begged, tears streaming down his face. "Wake up, I need you," he pleaded, shaking her gently. "Remember when we were young? The silly dances we did, the songs we sang for mom and dad? You're the only family I have, Velvet, please wake up," he wailed, his voice thick with distress.

He sat, hugged Velvet's body to him, and wept. His thumb caressed her cold skin, her fingers lifeless and limp. He buried his face into his sister's chest, sobbing into her clothes. His eyes were red and puffy as he held her close, wishing for the impossible. His tears soaked her shirt, and he rocked back and forth, a pendulum of grief and despair. Suddenly, a small hand touched his back, making him jump. He turned to see a troll standing behind him, her face filled with concern. It was Poppy.

Veneer’s brows furrowed, and his lips curled. If it wasn’t for them, Velvet wouldn’t have been on the floor unconscious. “GET AWAY! ITS YOUR FAULT!!” he roared, slamming his fist on the ground.

He was so angry, so depressed, so alone. Veneer took a deep breath, gathering his strength before switching back to his sister. He whispered to her, his voice filled with desperate longing, "Vel, you're scaring me. Please wake up… Please… Sissy, please…" Tears streaming down his face, his heart heavy with anguish, he held onto his sister's body, willing her to live.

He grabbed his sister's wrist and felt for a pulse, praying in silence to any higher power that might be listening for her to be okay. The seconds felt like hours as he counted off the heartbeat, each second bringing him closer to the realization that she was gone. Veneer's stomach churned with anxiety, his heart racing with fear. Suddenly, he felt a wave of nausea wash over him and he wanted to throw up.

He released a heart-wrenching wail, his body collapsing onto Velvet's, his hand gripping her shoulder and hugging her against him in a final embrace. "Velvet, no!" he cried, his voice shattering as he let out a pained sob. Thirty long, agonizing minutes passed before he finally released her body, letting it drop to the floor as his sobs echoed throughout Mount Rageous. The pain of losing his sister was overwhelming, and his heart felt as though it was being torn apart.

He looks around, his tears making everything blurry and almost dreamlike. Only splotches of pink, blue, green, and purple were visible. He struggles to speak, his voice a hoarse whisper. "Floyd," he croaks out, the name tasting bitter on his tongue.

Veneer picked his twin’s corpse up, still hugging it. He could never let go, but he had to fess up. He realized that the same exact thing could’ve happened to Floyd if they kept him. Now, Veneer felt what the trolls felt.

"Mount Rageous. I'm a fraud!" His voice is hoarse as he struggles to form the words. "We wanted to be famous. We had no talent, so we stole Floyd's talent. All because we wanted to be remembered. And I just wanted to impress Vel. So I never said no." Tears pool in his eyes as he tries to continue, but the words caught in his throat. "Everything has a price," he finally manages to say. "And I just- I just- want to say- I'm sorry."

Veneer wept, sobbing uncontrollably as he clung to his sister's body. His tears soaked into her shirt, wetting the cotton fabric as he nuzzled his face into her cold flesh, unable to come to terms with the reality of what had happened.

“Oh my god! Get off of me!” A voice yelled, pushing Veneer away. It was Velvet? He sat up and wiped his tears away to see her laying on the couch.

"SIS!? You're alive!" Veneer sobbed as he pulled her into a tight hug. "You're alive!" He repeated, burying his head into her chest and weeping with relief. Velvet chuckled, running a hand through his hair, "Of course, I'm alive, silly." She said, her tone light and playful.

Veneer cried into her shirt, burying his head into her chest. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry.. I thought you were dead," he sobbed. Velvet frowned, her heart fluttering with concern. "What are you talking about, bro? Did you have a stupid nightmare again?" She asked.

Veneer sobbed as his sister held him close, his body shaking with emotion. She hugged him back, caressing the back of his head and whispering words of comfort into his ear. "Trust me, bro," she said warmly, "I'm not going anywhere. I love you."

Backstory

On July 31st, 2005, Velvet was born along with her younger twin brother. Her parents only wanted a boy, so she never got a lot of attention. She was cared for on and off by her parents and grandparents. Velvet made a strong connection with her grandmother, January, who was a famous singer in her days. Her grandmother was the main reason she wanted to start singing.

At the age of six, she was enrolled to a private primary school with her brother. Velvet became instantly popular for her famous grandmother and dentist parents. She became friends with almost everybody and loved her younger years. In year 3, her grandmother passed away. It was difficult on Velvet as she lost her main caretaker and friend.

At the start of secondary school, Velvet started becoming rebellious. She and Veneer would sneak out of the house to go to parties, smoke, etc. Eventually, the two were caught. As a punishment, they were given too many activities to worry about instead of sneaking off. She really started to despise her parents.

Velvet would skip her extracurriculars and use her free time to hangout with her friends or sleep. In year 12, she started dating. Velvet was dating the goalie for the school’s football team. However, he was a cunt. He was toxic and emotionally abusive towards Velvet.

This relationship was very draining for her. It made Velvet’s mental health really decline. One day, she got into a heated argument, and he hit her. Velvet went to protect herself, but Veneer jumped in and beat the fuck out of him. Safe to say, he never messed with her again.

Around that time, she started her singing career. Velvet would post her songs on SoundCloud, and got a few thousand followers! She felt consumed by the fame and wanted MORE. Velvet convinced her twin brother to start singing with her a bit after. They became insanely famous stupidly fast.

Velvet was blinded by her fame and money, making her toxic and controlling. It was so bad that she had to go to weekly therapy to control herself. She moved out of her parents house and into a beach home for her and Veneer.

She lives with Veneer right outside of Mount Rageous. she’s pretty happy now. She loves her life and how far she’s come.

Backstory

He was spoiled to death by his parents, but it made him uncomfortable. Ever since he was a toddler, he was weirded out by his parents. However, there was an important figure in his life that made him not uncomfy: Valentino Mazzola Sr.

His grandfather supported his love of dance and acting, but also taught him “manly” things. Veneer was very close to his grandfather. He started attending a private primary school with his twin sister. Quickly, he became popular; not just by his family being famous. Veneer was an extremely nice kid in Primary School.

In middle school, Veneer started to experiment with who he was. He started painting his nails, got his ears pierced, and acted more feminine. But this angered his parents; they said that they didn’t want a gay child. With that, he started becoming very secretive. Veneer didn’t talk to certain people for months on end.

When he got to year 10, his grandfather past away. It was really hard on Veneer. On top of all the stressful activities he had to do; he had to suffer loss. This was when Velvet and Veneer started their singing career. (Ha that rhymed).

He felt so happy that people adored him; he felt even happier his sister was getting the attention she deserved. Due to getting famous, Veneer really stopped caring. He became himself and didn’t give two shits if his parents started complaining.

Veneer became an icon in Mount Rageous quickly. He is just as greedy with his fame as Velvet, but he can control himself more. He loves his life, his family, his boho chic home decorations, and his money.
