Lipgloss Talks Movies • 13 August 2023
Todays movie is: La Belle et la Bête (1946) ( movie w/ English subtitles)
Quick synopsis (pulled from IMDB):
A beautiful young woman takes her father's place as the prisoner of a mysterious beast, who wishes to marry her.
This is my favorite version of Beauty and the Beast; even inspired Disney in their animated version!
It’s in French (as it should be 🤭) and it’s so beautiful. I watch it like every other month; it’s ethereal and Josette Day is such a beautiful Belle. 😌 It’s more like the fairy tale with the mean sisters and her being forced to act as a servant for the family.
Highly, highly recommend; it’s available on streaming services and is free on YouTube with English subtitles!! 💜

La Belle et la bête (Beauty and the Beast) / Josette Day as Belle
Belle wears this shimmering pearl-studded gown a couple of different ways: first with the Beast's gift of a necklace and her hair au naturel and later without the necklace and with a feathered hair ornament. The movie is set more or less explicitly in the 17th century, and the scenes with Belle's family are pretty grounded in reality. But her costumes when she enters the Beast's castle become heightened and fairy tale-ish, as with this one.

i really love that moment in la belle et la bete (1946) when belle's sisters are like: "if you leave, we'll die" and belle just closes her eyes and goes: "don't temp me." 🤣🤣🤣

im not an anon hate guy so im attaching my name to this. your five star list on your uquiz is kind of ass. are you okay? i know art subjective and all that. are you okay?
I stand by each choice 100% and will gladly defend them till i die. they're all five star films
i did have to limit my choices to things I think your average uquizzer might conceiveably know of which was horribly limiting (this was a failure, when i still looked at comments on that quiz like 1/100 would be 'I have never seen a single one of those films')
The films in question (which i stand by):
I'm doing amazing, thanks for asking. How are you?
