#because he's the eldest son

Being the eldest son and being the eldest daughter has many similarities but the bigest difference is when someone tells us to 'fulfill your duty'
When they tell that my brother, they mean that he shall bring glory, honor and money to my father's house, he should make him proud, he stould strive to be the best
When they tell me that, they mean I should be a mother. I should clean after my brothers, find a good man, marry him and bear him healthy children.
I can be pretty, I can be smart, I can strong, I can be all of these things, but at the end of the day it won't matter.
Because he is expected to be exceptional
And I to take care of the house

One thing that I always think about post-dungeon recovery Mithrun who got home is that people were probably used to talking about him while he was still in the room.
Misiril's squad used to that when he was still in their care. Questions towards him were quickly redirected to others when he wouldn't (couldn't) answer their questions -- where was the rest of his squad? what happened to the demon? how did he even end up like this? Asking or talking to Mithrun is a pointless effort. So they stopped doing that.
And Mithrun, he's gotten used to this set-up, not like he could bring himself to care.
When his caretakers and visiting family started doing it, he continued to be apathetic to them (although, the numbness from this large, gaping hole in his chest makes him think that he used to care).
The caretakers would do their duties, but behind his back, they would probably gossip about Mithrun's chances of recovery. Others think there is still hope, a lot of them think this is going to be permanent. Which is good, at least to their business, because Mithrun's brother pays a lot to make sure he is alive. And Mithrun...is not in the state to do that himself. They at least try to whisper when they're around Mithrun, keep their voices low or mention him under an alias or a codename. But Mithrun knows they are talking about him. He is the elephant in the room.
His visiting family is less nice. They take one look at him and weep -- not out of worry, or pity, or sadness -- but of shame. There is no way they can show him to others anymore, they bemoan. There is no way he can represent himself as a member of the House of Kerensil, they cry. He's just like his brother! And, once upon a time, that comment would've hurt Mithrun, a stab right into his heart. But all he feels is a gaping numbness that cannot be filled (It used to be full, he can't help but think).
I wish he had died, someone from his family said while he was within earshot. And Mithrun, barely alive but still breathing, cannot bring himself to care.
The only person that I think would be delighted to see him alive, at least, is his brother. I can see him visiting Mithrun whenever he can (at least in elf time terms). Talking to him as if he can respond, asking him about things when Mithrun can't bring himself to answer. At some point, Mithrun's brother stopped talking to him when he visits; instead, he would just sit next to Mithrun and watch the birds and the flowers. He would drink tea and Mithrun would do nothing.
But once in a while, Mithrun's brother would tell him, I'm glad you came home, I'm glad you're still alive.

I made this because I've seen multiple fanarts of Jonathan with all the later jojos as kids, and they usually make Johnny a kid too! But Johnny is also an old man with his many descendants and now must feel the burden of fatherhood
Children featured from left to right: Kei Nijimura, Dragona Joestar, Jodio Joestar, Yoshikage Kira, George Joestar III, Joseph Joestar

I gave myself a writing challenge and I am fascinated by it
So basically I put the robins in a randomizer to give them a new order/role (because I just...kinda wanted to see what would happen + I like role-reversal AUs) and got results that are giving me a fucking brain blast.
Stephanie, the first sidekick who defines the role
Tim, the sidekick who dies and comes back wrong
Dick, the sidekick who saves Batman from himself
Damian, the sidekick who was never supposed to be a sidekick but would go on to prove everyone wrong
Jason, the youngest sidekick who is still the Kid Wonder
...So this is fucking wild. I've got some ideas and several of these fit perfectly (Dick's role is pretty similar to his one in canon), but some of these are fucking INCREDIBLE to explore (Steph being the first Robin is something I never even considered but tbh I kinda love it).
I probably won't write a fic or anything because tbh I don't like publishing my writing that much, but I might expand this into a full AU and post about it. I might randomize other stuff too (ie, stuff that I cannot change vs stuff that I cannot keep the same) but this fucking rules as a starting point.
#uhhh what am I calling this??#randomizedrobinsau#stephanie brown#oh my god I am so excited to figure out how tf to write this.#because she's my favorite of these characters and having HER be the first sidekick + the one who has a mentor/older sister relationship#with the others?? kickass. though I'll probably keep her and Tim's relationship as 'dating-then-exes' because I think it's funny#and then SHE can be the Robin who Tim got fixated on + figured out her identity?? holy fuck and then the angst of Tim later dying#Tim Drake#tbh I kinda wish he'd gotten a different position because 'sidekick who dies' Tim has kinda been done a lot with the standard#reverse robin aus. But it'll still be fun to write. Definitely going the Joker Junior route with this because Batman Beyond kicks ass#Dick Grayson#He'll honestly probably be the easiest. Like...his role has not changed much outside of being younger/not the one who defines this#But I still think it'll be good to see how well I know Dick beyond his eldest brother thing (which is my best way of relating to him)#Damian al ghul#damian wayne#oh this is gonna kick ass#Bruce does not want his son to be a sidekick but Damian just kinda forces his way into that role#and everybody doubts him because of his history with the league but he later proves himself more than capable#to the point that he can set out mostly on his own and still thrive#Jason Todd#Jason being the baby of the family is also something I have never thought about but holy shit it could kick ass#I really hope that I don't roll 'Jason must die' or 'Robin 5 must die' on the randomizer. I just kinda want Jason to live this time#But unfortunately I double-screwed him because he's on the 'must happen' wheel twice now. I did not think these prompts through#TBH I am so happy that none of them rolled their OG roles. because that would have been so fucking boring

I don’t really GET Joplittle most of the time because those guys only spoke to one another like twice. But their dynamic from their few interactions in episode 5 is SO interesting to me. They’re joined in their knowledge of Crozier’s alcoholism and are dealing with the repressions of that. But their responses to it are parallel.
In the cabin scene at the beginning of the episode, Little is so visibly pissed off at Crozier, but does his best to shove it down and follows orders. He’s forced to (try and) hide what’s going on from Fitzjames and now is being made to participate in this by getting Crozier whiskey. A man just DIED, and Crozier is back to speaking about drinking a moment later.
Meanwhile, Jopson has been dealing with Crozier’s alcoholism the longest and knows this is the worst it’s ever been. But he’s not angry like Little, he’s mostly concerned for Crozier’s well-being. (That little pause before “two bottles, sir,”…) He’s a good steward first and foremost, though, so he doesn’t comment and gets the whiskey. Crozier noticeably has a much nicer tone with Jopson.
It’s almost like an eldest child v favorite child dynamic. Edward the angry oldest now shouldering the burdens and Jopson the concerned-yet-empathetic favorite child who mom asked to get another beer.
It's so so so juicy. It’s only really a thing in episode five, but it’s fun to extrapolate on that. You could create such an interesting, fucked up bond for them.

this video is so aegon coded, in my mind (I am the eldest child, I technically ruined my mom's life, but she tries so hard to love me, she DOES love me, but our relationship is so strained because of the way she's treated me due to her own pain. I think I'm a good enough reference on this)
like. him and alicent. with all their messiness. at the end of the day, that's HIS mommy, and no matter what, even when he feels like he hates her, she is beautiful and perfect and no one can say a bad thing about her because he loves her and she loves him and that makes everything ok at the end of the day.
sometimes he's mean to her, she's too rough, he feels like he hates her, she can barely look at him. but god forbid someone insult her in his presence, he will actually have a breakdown. that's his mommy and he loves her and forgives her and hopes she can forgive him and just wants her to be happy so they can all be happy.
like little kid aegon, he was always playing with her hair and her jewelry, telling her she was pretty. gently poking at her face, like toddlers do, when she was upset, trying to figure out what was wrong. he'd hug her clumsily and tell her it was alright. and he remembers that, he remembers wanting his mom to be happy and to know she was beautiful and that he was there (again, in the way a toddler does) and he stills wants that. he wants to be small and to make his mom smile and feel better. that's his job! he's supposed to protect her and make her happy!
I especially imagine this happens frequently cause of how her father and his father treat her, how the court treats her, how everyone treats her. they all so mean to her, even in ways that are quiet and seemingly mundane. he must hate it. hate the way they tear her apart with their words and their eyes. the way they subtly mock her. he must feel so angry but so helpless and conflicted.
and it all boils down to him becoming a sobbing, snotty, (in his case) drunken mess and I love that for him (I mean I feel really bad, this shit sucks, but you know what I mean)

i’ve said it once and i’ll say it again, dc really needs to get better writers because how do they expect people to like batman if he’s constantly being portrayed as an abuser

succession really is daddy issues: the show, bc the roy kids never got the chance to grow up and become independent and reach a place where they could reflect on who their father really was and the impact he had on them. he was in that position of power until he died, and now they're all suddenly dealing with a shattered world view that they should have processed much earlier in life. ewan's eulogy especially highlighted that sentiment, the realization every child is eventually forced to reckon with: their parent is only human. this realization is even more flooring when the parent was abusive, and it no doubt had an impact on roman when he went up there to give his trainwreck of a eulogy.

Today in “Quora digests specifically selecting the answers I will most disagree with,” I was sent someone earnestly arguing that not only do Tolkien’s humans possess no magical abilities, neither do Elves, they just have access to superior technologies that allow them to craft physical items they draw power from like the Three or the Silmarils.
I’m sure this is an interesting concept to ... someone, but personally I find these weird attempts to make Middle-earth’s magic more restricted and systematized than Tolkien ever depicted it very blah. Middle-earth is a quintessential soft magic setting, come on!

Why do people want Rodrigue to be Lonato so bad 😔 "Favors his dead son over his living one" is something Lonato does, not Rodrigue

Holy shit I’ve heard of crusader kings but I didn’t know it was that detailed! Do you control the characters like a point and click game?
it's like basically you have a character who's a ruler small as a county or large as an empire. anywhere from iceland to north africa to india. And you get married have kids. Get murdered try to murder people. Wage wars. Etc etc. Once you die you move on to your heir. You can fiddle with lots of settings and make like gayness totally possible everywhere in 800 AD whatever you want. They throw in historical stuff and let you go ahistorical. Right now I'm going a what if Alfred the Great's older brother never died young without an heir and he never gained control of Wessex playthrough.
I recommend checking out a gameplay video to get a better sense.
