hello dearest gamers ... today I have spent 3 hours translating the little character descriptions in the Re:Kinder page of Parun's website for the sake of me doing some wiki pages for em' characters and now i will share it with you!!! (ᵔ◡ᵔ) Here it is!! It's very likely a bit flimsy but it gets the point across (i hope).
(Oh yeah by the way the text in brackets "[ ]" is me butting in to clarify things not actual translated text)
Shunsuke
The protagonist of this story.
He holds the key to the story. [to unclasp it, or to solve it! The word used implies that, but I wasn't sure how to write it in in a way that sounded natural.]
A third grader in elementary school.
Ryou
He is Shunsuke's childhood friend!
Has a gentle and kind personality.
A third grader in elementary school.
Sayaka
A friend of Shunsuke and Ryou.
She is usually kind, but can be scary sometimes.
A third grader in elementary school.
Aya
Has a shy and quiet personality. [this sentence was a bit tricky to translate, there's a nuance to it i could not understand but this is basically what it's trying to say]
She has just recently moved into town.
A fourth grader in elementary school.
Rei
Has a strong personality that puts even that of the boys to shame. [in other words, it outshines theirs!]
She also cares about being fashionable.
A fifth grader in elementary school.
Hiroto
Oldest member of the group. [in between the kids, ignore Mami for a second Dx]
Seems older than he actually is, with a composed personality.
A sixth grader in elementary school.
Takumi
Has a weak and frightened personality. [which can also be read as timid and nervous (though it implies fear so frightened it is).]
For all the things that happen [to him] in the story, I give my condolences.
A third grader in elementary school.
Mami
Shunsuke's older sister [a sister figure, not literally his sister but wasn't sure how to write that in] next door.
She and Shunsuke are close friends!
A second year student in high school.
Yuuichi
Appears in the middle of the story.
A young boy that is a bit strange.
A second grader in elementary school.
Was it anything completely new and mindblowing no but is it fun to know what it says yes !!! 😊
#re:kinder#not art#do let me know of any mistakes!!#i do not speak japanese i worked with very limited understanding of how it works and goofy amounts of research😭#but it's honest manual work#cuz the automatic site translation had me raising eyebrows#so 3 HOURS OF SITTING DOWN HERE I GO!!!😍😍😍#basically me trying to see what adjectives bro uses to describe the characters#tell me. i am writing the personality section for them pleas e tell me#oh yeah i am writing wiki pages for the main cast cuz im insane#YOU KNOW HOW THERES RPGGG MAKER RPG WIKIS AROUND WITH REKINDER ON IT#i want the characters to have nice pages like all the other characters in those sorts of wikis#and i so conveniently have a nearly 40k word document on this game i made for the purpose of analysis cuz im sane#SO WHY NOT#specially for the spanish wiki because at least the english one has pages made for all of them spanish one has a sentence💔#in the characters page at least cuz i added silly tiny descriptions of the characters in the main one#THE SILLY LITTLE GUYS WILL GET THE PAGES THEY DESERVE!!!#because you know reading wikis on your favorite characters is very fun#i want people to be able to do that with them too#and it also gives me an excuse to talk about this game for more hours than i already have#even if its to a wiki#anyway play re:kinder 😊#oh yeah if youre curious on the honorifics . boys are given kun girls are given san. mami is given oneechan#didnt really mention em cuz they aint used in english

How To Start Reading Marvel Comics
Okay, so let's say you're a fan of the Marvel movies or games or you just saw Spider-Verse and you want to know how to start reading comics. Hi, welcome! This is one method of getting into comics; it is not the only one. We're going to be heavily relying on digital comics for this one, so if you prefer reading on paper, this might not be for you.
Step One: Pick a Character
This should be easy! Pick a character whose comics you want to read. It doesn't have to be your favorite character of all time; it just needs to be a character you're interested in getting to know a little better. A character is going to work better for this particular method than a team will, although there are plenty of team reading guides if you really want them.
Let's say, for the sake of example, that you just watched the Moon Knight Disney+ series and you want to read some stuff about Moon Knight.
Step Two: Find a Reading List
The very technically advanced way to do this is to Google "[Character] Reading List" or "[Character] Recommended Reading." For Moon Knight, Marvel has an official one that pops up right away.
The official ones are good places to start, but IMO, the best ones are usually from tumblr or Reddit. Comic fans can be very intense, but we also know more about the material than anyone, including Marvel. :) Here's one for Moon Knight.)
Step Three: Understanding the Reading List
Comic names are formatted one of two ways. You might see someone say Moon Knight (vol 7) or Moon Knight (2014). These refer to the same series of comics. They mean that the title of the series is Moon Knight, that it is the 7th series published under that title, and that it started publication in 2014. Moon Knight (vol 1) is Moon Knight (1980), because it's the first run of comics called Moon Knight and it started publication in 1980.
So, how do you know? That's where the wiki comes in. marvel.fandom.com is my best friend. So, when you type "Moon Knight vol 7" into the search bar, it brings up this page. See how it says (2014-2015) at the top? That's how you know that Moon Knight (vol 7) is Moon Knight (2014).
Step Four: Accessing Comics
Now we have to get the comics. We have a number of options:
For digital comics:
Buying digital comics. You can do this on Amazon or Marvel.com. However, this gets expensive real fast - for example, Moon Knight (1980) has 38 issues, and each of those costs $1.99. That's almost $80, just for volume 1.
Marvel Unlimited subscription. This is not a bad deal TBH. It's $10 a month, and they have quite an extensive catalogue. The only problem is that the site takes forever to load and is not easily searchable. Usually, I'll type into Google the name of the exact comic I want to access (e.g. "Moon Knight (1980) #1") and then click on the marvel.com link that comes up.
Piracy. This is the easiest and cheapest option, and thus the most popular. I'm not going to link any sites, but ask a friend or Google and you'll find one easily enough.
Physical comics are also an option, but they are more complicated. Groups of issues are collected in trade paperback collections, but finding which collections contain which issues can be a bit more of a hassle. And then buying those collections can get pricey very quickly.
If you like physical comics and have a public library card, I'd recommend checking out what they have on their shelves. On a Marvel comic, you want to look at the back cover, usually in the lower right-hand corner, and it will tell you which issues are in the comic (e.g. "Collects Moon Knight (2014) #1-6"). You might find some things that were on your reading list, or you might find some comics you'd never have read otherwise. A lot of public libraries (at least in the US) have a larger comic book collection than you'd expect.
Step Five: Have Fun and Be Yourself!
The most important thing to remember is that you are supposed to be having fun. There might be some frustration if you're not used to reading visual media (I know I wasn't), but it should overall be fun. If a comic feels like a slog, you don't have to read it! Maybe you and the person who made the reading list just have different taste. Try a different comic. Try a different character.
Also, remember that it's okay to be confused. You might be jumping around a little bit and so you might not know everything that's going on. This is kind of the perpetual state of reading comics. If you want to double-check the wiki or ask your friendly neighborhood comics blogger, that's totally fine.

the communities visceral desire to find out if something is canon or noncanon is so annoying to me and it does not help that yeucc panders to his fans constantly in response
nobody needs to know what a characters canonical favorite food or drink or show or style or music is. the whole fun part of that is making that shit up on your own and having fun with it. but people dont agree so they go to yeucc and yeucc answers all of it with answers he Obviously bullshitted to pander to his fanbase. Hmm Yes Infected Loves Dinosaurs. Yes he would burn stuff on cds. yes he loves runescap and fps games and pikachu and his favorite drink is fizz up and baja blast and mcdonalds spride and he read homestuck and he watches invader zim NONE OF THIS NEEDS TO BE CONFIRMED CANON!!! ITS SO BORING!!!!!!!!!!! ahhh yes pests favorite food is apple pie this is canon and needs to be in the lore section of his wiki page. lets make unpleasant eat infecteds cat in the new update even though that was only a fanmade theory with 0 evidence before now. yeucc talking to his writing team Lets canonize so many bullshit traits i made up on the spot so they can go slap it all on their trivia section and make it longer than the rest of the actual page. i love canonizing shit about characters i didnt even make myself. i feel like you can really tell how little he thinks about this shit with the way he said pest is canonically evil and then canonized him having aspd and npd a few months later (both of which are Very Heavily Demonized PDs). didnt even THINK about how that might come off to people with those personality disorders. he HAS to canonize it because someone asked him
i need to clarify idgaf if yeucc canonizes sexualities or ships or pronouns because thats all like a nothing issue to me, i could care less, its just the constant canonization of useless little likes and dislikes to make the fandom happy that pisses me off

hello there dog!!! firstly, i just want too say im incredibly proud too see how far you have come, dialtown is so special too me, and for not only that game to be so loved, but also for you too be so involved in the community, is amazing keep up the great work! i do have a question, i am working on a theory pertaining to my favorite characters gingi/milton, and if i may, i have a couple questions about him specifically, if you don't mind of course :) 1. what made you come up with the design/personality of gingi?
2. what are your personal feelings/thoughts on gingi? are you satisficed with them as a character? or are there anything you wish you could change now? 3. this is a wierd one but, gingi generally does not really care what he looks like/what others think, so im really curious why hes so meticulous with making his phone/type head, and if he is so bent up about it, why not try to get someone like Oliver to make him a more proper one? instead of replacing the rotten flesh over and over
4. idk if you can answer this one, but i dont think it can hurt to try...was gingi around, before callum lost his mind?
if you cant answer this, then i have another, what flower would best represent gingi?
Milton question:
ok so....did Callum just straight up cheat on his Marla with Milt?...or am i mistaking something? what i read on the wiki says that milton and Callum had a romantic...fling?
2. did norm know milt? where they friends?
3. does mingus know at least some of the extent of miltons involvement with callum?
4. are there any plans with milton? he seems like such a cool character with crazy potential
that's my questions done, again thank you if you answer! and if not, thank you for making a truly special game, cant wait too see more gingi and dialtown in the future
1)Design for Gingi was primarily based on Frankenstein's aesthetic applied to a the chupacabra. Personality was largely ripped from quite a few unpublished stories/ideas I had before making DT. There's a few protagonists in other things I'd written as potential new game/story ideas that are eerily like Gingi.
2)I'm really really happy with Gingi as a character and I wouldn't change anything that I've established. I like how Gingi starts the game and changes by the end because it's pretty vast, but also not a complete change (and it happens very very gradually.)
TBH, outside of Gingi's interactions in DT, the fandom doesn't really know anything concrete about Gingi due to Gingi's poor memory. Until Gingi formed real human relationships, there was nothing to anchor to, just fragmented and barely remembered individual interactions. Honestly, the bigger picture is really interesting and I'm very happy with Gingi as a protagonist and I'd love to make sequels to DT as I've had concrete ideas for where the character would get up to in potential sequels for years now!
3)Gingi's flesh-head is a bit of a mystery. Gingi doesn't have the same adverse reaction to rotting things that most people do, but does have a general chip in its shoulder about being judged as lesser by others. Gingi (generally) does not make efforts to change its appearance to be seen as less repulsive by others, as we can plainly see from the fact Gingi often forgets (or refuses) to wear clothes.
4)I have all the main character date of births written down, so I could tell you Gingi's exact age... but it's more fun if I don't.
FOR MILT:
1)I'm not really sure why the wiki says that. There's no canon materials that state that Crown + Milt had an affair together. I think someone just read between the lines and stated their hunch as a fact.
2)Norm and Milt met but didn't know each other well. There was a cut mention of Milt in Norm's dialogue, but after a lot of head-scratching, felt the topic was too forced. Norm wouldn't have volunteered the information unless it was relevant to the scene and Gingi would not have asked.
3)Mingus knows about Milt, though not intimately. The only person alive during Mingus' lifetime who could've talked about Milt to her was her grandmother Marla, who was a husk of a person for Mingus' whole life (and in particular, talking about Milt would've hurt too much for her given their closeness.) Mingus knows about Milt from her obsessive study of her paw paw's presidency, but not much more than any historian/social studies teacher would. A lot of information I'd consider very important about Milt was never put to paper.
4)I'm not 100% sure why the fandom likes him as much as they do, given how little of him the fandom has seen (and how little information there is about him out there so far.) I just wanted a few references to him included in canon so I could potentially reveal more about him one day without fans wondering how this SUPER important character had never been mentioned. It's incredibly likely that I'll show more of Milt in future DT stuff due to how instrumental he was in Crown's decision-making + rise to power. There would be no practical way to expand on Crown without discussing Milt more.
There's a much bigger picture that the fandom hasn't seen much of that Milt is very important to, though it isn't often relevant to the modern day events of DT. Understanding Milt isn't important to understand DT itself, but is to understand both Crown and exactly how the world (and by extension, Dialtown itself) ended up exactly the way it did. And with time, I will discuss that some more.

For anyone looking to make their own Persona AUs, the Shin Megami Tensei wiki is honestly one of the better places to research the recurring tropes of various social links (ie, the Magician typically being the Protagonist's first male friend, the Justice typically being prone to anger). Do note that because of the nature of the Persona and SMT franchises you'll find potentially triggering content, so do tread lightly!
yes, very true! the wiki is SUPER HELPFUL in that regard!
and this is a good time to bring up actually: if my talking about persona has made you interested in playing, yay! they’re super cool and fun games! HOWEVER, they have some pretty big content warnings on them. (here the content warnings are for p3/p4/p5; I would be shocked if these themes aren’t in p1/p2, but I haven’t played those.)
all three games have at least some mentions/relevant sexual assault
all three games have scenes of severe bullying
all three games discuss suicide
all three games have death, including major character death, as a theme, with persona 3 having death be its MAIN theme.
all three games have some elements of institutionalized abuse as part of their story
familial/child abuse is also in at least one social link in all three games, and is a major plot point in at least p3 and p5.
mental health in general is a major theme of all three games.
all three games have some element of unreality as a theme.
additionally, while the above are the things I think atlus would say they intentionally put in as heavy themes, persona also has some… “jokes”… that it is irresponsible to make a recommendation without mentioning.
atlus tends to use the “predatory gay man” and “predatory trans woman” bit for laughs. yes, I’m sorry, in all three games, although I was pleasantly surprised to see they’d actually removed that from persona 3 in p3 reload! but it’s in one scene in p5, and in p4 it’s… complicated. one of the lead characters is gay, and part of his character arc is about internalized homophobia. however, another character will make statements like he’s scared to share a tent with him, which is never treated as justified but IS treated as a “joke”, on account of the character doing the homophobia being a comic relief character. additionally, naoto’s character arc can easily be read as transphobic (as naoto needing to accept being a woman rather than a man), although I know different people have different reactions to this arc. p4 is my favorite but it is NOT a recommendation I give without content warnings for a reason.
also, while p4 as a game is well aware of the amount of violence against women in it and the bad guy who does it is a nihilist and a loser, it is a major plot point, and it’s not always treated with grace.
also, all three games notoriously have at least one “comedy relief” scene of the guys picking up women and honestly it’s normally more like, anime cringe than actually misogynistic but it feels like I should bring it up?
also in both p3 and p5 there are social links that can lead to you flirting with your teacher. yeah. it’s avoidable but it’s sure there.
overall: REALLY GOOD GAMES, and when the writing is good in them it’s REALLY GOOD. they’re also consistently games that people who otherwise wouldn’t be into an 100-hour jrpgs end up realizing why people like the genre with! but they are ALSO games where the content warnings here are warranted!

Hey there Slug! I hope you ain't too buys and might have a lil fun with this one! Of each individual character, what are your respective favorite songs of theirs and why?
This is an easy ask to answer, so I'mma clear it from the pile and get to some older ones eventually.
I assume you mean solo songs only, right?
Under a cut for length because there are a bajillion boys in this series
Ichirou: I like his VA's rapping work in just about everything; he's really solid. Stage Ichirou also has a youthful quality I appreciate a lot, but of the main series songs... probably Break the Wall. It's high energy in a fun way. It also ties into a creative project I've been chewing on for years that's near and dear to my heart, although I'm not sure if I'll ever put it to paper and share it anywhere.
Jirou: I think Jirou's VA has a very pretty singing voice, so I like his softer songs. In general, I admire the "softer" aspects of Jirou's character and think that's where he shines best. So probably School of IKB, although I adore his choruses in Re:start.
Saburou: Requiem. I'm very, very, very into things that commit to being over the top and goofy, and I also enjoy combining classical and baroque elements with other genres. What's not to like here?
Samatoki: Gangsta's Paradise. The high speed rap is technically compelling. I generally appreciate v. fast rap since I enjoy learning and singing them. If the stage plays count, I really enjoy the emotion Samatoki's stage actor brings to Come Back to Me.
Juuto: ...There is some interesting text in the Personality section of Juuto's wiki page. (I have it pulled up to quick reference the song lists.) If anyone with wiki edit powers is reading this, you may want to clean that up... Anyway, I feel like they give Juuto great background music in just about every song, but Uncrushable takes the cake for me. I really like the BG music in that.
Riou: Move Your Body Till You Die, hands down. Goofy as fuck. Also, great workout music.
Ramuda: I find his main voice pretty grating, and his usual styles of music aren't my favorite in general. So Ramuda songs don't do a lot for me. I appreciate Pink Colored Love for plot reasons, though.
Gentarou: The slower Hypmic songs rarely do a lot for me, but I found myself enjoying Yume no Kanata a lot. Not sure I know why, necessarily...
Dice: 3$EVEN was one of the first songs I really enjoyed in Hypmic, and I still like its high energy today. In general, I'm impressed by Dice's VA's rapping ability and appreciate his parts in group songs a lot.
Jakurai: Like I said earlier, I'm not usually a fan of slow songs, so none of Jakurai's solos or duets have ever stood out to me. With that being said, I think Jakurai's speech style and slower rhythms makes him more fun and easier to translate w/ full rhyme and rhythm than many other characters. Like I think Labyrinth Wall would be fun to do a full cover of with syllable matching rhymes and line length while simultaneously trying to stick as close to the core meaning and tone as possible.
Hifumi: Both Champagne Gold and Don't Stop the Party are high-energy bops and great for working out. Slight preference for the former. I also really like his singing voice in group songs.
Doppo: Doppo's angrier verses in group songs are fun, but I'm especially fond of BLACK OR WHITE. In particular, I enjoy the DOTAMA cover. I'm a big DOTAMA fan for both his lyrical strength and considerable rapping chops. He's got a lot of songs that are really punchy and angry in this exact vein, and I love throwing on a playlist of his stuff while grinding out tedious work projects. Hahaha. Just rapping along "I don't want to work. I don't want to work. I don't want to work. BUT HERE I AM, WORKING!!!!" furiously under my breath.
Sasara: Comedian Rhapsody is really fun. This is another song I would love, love, love, love to try and do a full translation w/ preservation of rhyme/line length/jokes. Not for sharing--at that point it's just kinda showing off--but it's fun to chew on bits of it when I have moments of free time.
Roshou: Like most of the slow song characters, Roshou's solos aren't my favorite. I guess I prefer Under Sail to Own Stage for its background music.
Rei: All of Rei's songs are wild to the point of me liking them for the goofiness. If you commit to the bit, I'll enjoy it 9 times out of 10. Doesn't matter what the bit is. Shiro to Kuro is probably my favorite. LOVE the "heh heh we are up to no good" NPC villain energy of that song. But also, shout-out to his singing in Enishi, even if it's nigh-on intelligible to me. I love the hell out of Enishi in general.
Kuko: The king of goof himself. Sou Gyaran BAM is probably my favorite, but I am--to some degree--into virtually every song he's in.
Juushi: Wow, I'm listed as a source on this wiki page, lol. Anyway. Juushi's aesthetic as a whole isn't my cup of tea, but I have a soft spot for Moonlight Shadow, because the first two times I heard it were on Spotify shuffle while I just so happened to be scrubbing a toilet. So for a couple months after, I would put Bad Ass Temple on every time I cleaned the bathroom. Hahaha.
Hitoya: One and Two, and Law is so fucking goofy. I adore it. The live version with the airhorn? Chef's kiss.
Otome: Fuck it, let's do the ladies too. Out of all of her musical appearances, I like Just Do It the most. It adds such an interesting strength to her character, and the English portions are done super well.
Ichijiku: Love, love, love her part in Verbal Justice for its strength. This is yet another song I think would be fun to do a hell TL of, and then I remind myself that trying to rhyme "Kadenokouji" in English is a fool's errand.
Nemu: Her singing voice in WINK is nice, but I love her part in Femme Fatale for its energy. "I'm Nemu, and this is my masterpiece" Fuck yeah it is

ok so that post made me want to pull out recoded, and for nostalgia's sake i went into the avatar menu to read all the avatar sector levels i collected back in the day because i remembered them being really funny (spoiler alert they're still hilarious)
but then i started wondering if...those are even common knowledge? the game is more than a decade old now and it was never very popular to begin with so it wouldn't exactly surprise me if people weren't aware of this one obscure mechanic hidden in the optional game mode
so i guess if you're not aware, recoded had a (hugely fun vastly underrated) mode called the avatar menu, whose intended purpose was to let you collect parts for your avatar by connecting with other players via tag mode (essentially streetpass). when you made a connection, you'd receive an avatar sector floor (combat level) that would be added to a library of levels you could play for fun. every level would have the avatar of the person you tagged displayed alongside it, as well as their DS profile
but what if you live literally anywhere that's not japan and finding another human being who owns the game had similar odds to winning the lottery?? what then squeenix???
well not to worry, o friendless teenager, they've got you covered! the wonderful devs in charge of the avatar menu created a whole host of predesigned avatars that could be used collect levels, complete with their own profiles full of delightful flavor text. most of these preset avatars were based on kh and ff characters (even ones that didn't appear in the series like the ff13 cast!) and they're absolutely adorable
the catch is that, in order to collect these guys, you had to use tag mode in conjunction with another Nintendo system. in my case, i connected through one of the channels on the wii, but according to the wiki, you apparently could also use picto chat on a second DS, which i did not know!
the devs probably did not intend for players to abuse this feature and spend hours downloading dozens of avatar sector levels with which to expand their avatar's closet, but by golly that's what 15 year old me did. what can i say, i like dressup games 🤷‍♀️
anyway, that's a brief overview of the secret preset avatars. i'm not sure how many of them there are total but i have about 60 of them in my collection. but i only learned about them from reading forums circa 2011 so, as previously stated, it's probably not super well known info in this day and age lol
anyway here are some of my favorite avatar profiles in my library:
Tumblr media
"forced laugher" still kills me
Tumblr media
you might want to talk to someone about that my dude
Tumblr media
the tina shoutout LOL
Tumblr media
NOOOOOOO 😭😭😭 but also nice touch with the 14 trophies
Tumblr media
and last but not least, we stan a gnc fashion disaster!!!!

4, 5, 10, 13, 14, 15 for the fanfic ask game 💕
4.How do you channel characters' voices and personalities? A lot of self reflection. Lol Writing fanfiction is a double edge sword for this one. The voices and personalities are right there. They already have a voice and personality. It makes it really easy. But at the same time, as a fanfic writer, you have a lot of liberties with that. You get a lot of writers that do not make the characters anything like they are in canon and depending on the writing, it works. Particularly in AUs. Especially in non canon ships. Because, lets be frank, in canon Kakashi wouldn't touch Sakura with a ten foot pole like that. But that's also not why we're here. I do not always write my characters the way the initially were portrayed, but I do my best to at least stay within bubble of realism. Lots of 'What would Kakashi do?' or 'Would Sakura really do that?' This usually comes in the editing process. I would advise you to that while writing. Don't want to get into the revising of a long fic and realize that what you've written does not match Kakashi's personality at all and have to rewrite motivations. *cries in fanfic* 5. What techniques do you use to create believable dialogue? Similar to above, a lot of 'what would Kakashi say' or 'What would Sakura say' I've been writing a lot more Gai recently and creating believable dialogue with him has been challenging, but in a fun way. He's very boisterous and very animated and has a very interesting manner of speaking at times. Finding the right words is important.
TLDR: just being mindful of the character's head I'm in.
Also! when I write dialogue, I try my best to have them not just standing in the ether talking to one another with their hands at their sides. No one talks like that. I try to stay away from just saying 'he said/she said' and say 'he rubs the back of his neck' or 'she presses her lips together and looks away' or if they are walking and talking have them looking around and noticing the stuff around them (even if it is the person next to them.) Using the characters quirks and mannerisms helps build out a talky-talky scene.
10.What's your favorite part about the fic writing process? Coming up with the idea and the brain storming in my head. The day dreaming. Then writing, which is the second worst part. Then revising is the bane of my existence.
13.What's the most challenging aspect of writing fanfiction for you? Besides the fact I tend to switch tenses? Which is more of a writing thing than fanfic thing... it's characterization. Hands down. I would like to create a piece of work where there is no time where the person pauses and goes 'that character wouldn't do/say that' (unless it's, you know, a driving force behind the story. Like that's the plot or the relationship). I want Kakashi to be Kakashi. I want Sakura to be Sakura. For better or worse. Flaws and all. Because playing with flaws is very fun. 14.How do you go about researching details or canon information? Naruto Wiki. It's hard because it's been a hot minute since I've read Naruto and to recall what is canon and what is filler is a bit mind reeling. I say that and recognize I do pick and choose what I pull from filler. Like Friend-Killer Kakashi. 15.Do you plan your fics or prefer to let the story unfold as you write? I do both. Usually my first write through is half a story and half outline. The second go through is where I expand on ideas and then start narrowing things down. Then some ideas take hold and I run with it. That's one of the nice things about waiting until you're done writing the whole thing before you post because you can find a great idea at the end of a piece and go back and add layers in at the beginning and no one is the wiser.
Sorry this is really wordy and long, hopefully I answered your questions!

Miserix for the ask game!
This was one I really wanted so thank you so so much for asking it ;A;
First impression
I always liked Miserix. I discovered his charater via browsing on the wiki and reading about him made me interested in him. Since my language doesn't have pronouns I thought he was female for the longest time though lmao.
Impression now
My beloved strawberry dragon ;A;!!!! I love Miserix so much, he's easily one of my favorite characters and by far the most underrated in the series. In my opinion Miserix is one of the most interesting and intriguing characters in the series with by far one of the most compelling character journeys (even if we don't see much of it on-screen). Miserix is a tragedy, someone who was ousted from his position and ended up going mad as a result of his exile and isolation for thousands upon thousands years. He lost everything: his purpose, his identity and people to trust and was left with nothing but rage and vengeance! I find characters who lose themselves in their anger and vengeance such fascinating lost souls and Miserix is no exception! He's one of those characters I love to rotate in my head and dissect from all angles, trying to understand his psyche and mindset. And it's so much fun: Miserix is so fascinating to think about both with how he was in the past and how he is in the present. Not to mention how well Miserix fits thematically to the franchises themes, in particular on it's commentary of duty, identity and authority! He's an interesting character on his own and as a part of a larger world/narrative
In addition of finding Miserix's character so fascinating, I also love him for thow badass he is. And this isn't because of his powers and feats in story: The core of Miserix's badassness (at least for me) is his indimitation factor alone.Every time Miserix is on screen he brings so much tension to the scene he is in by his mere presence, he just has that type of charisma (for lack of a better term). Like Miserix doesn't have to do anything substantial, just by being present and saying somethign (even if it's just one line) is enough to get chills. Helps that he has easily some of the best lines in the series.
But god I love Miserix so so so much. I know that people dislike the Makuta as a species/faction retcon but I think it was worth it just for Miserix's character alone. His character does so much good for the series by introducing a fascinating major player into the series mythos who reflects some of the larger themes and ideas of the series really well!
Also the funny realization that Miserix is really similar to a favorite character of mine from another fandom but said character would hate him because he hates dragons and wants them all dead and...well..Miserix is a dragon so.
Favorite moment
This is hard since I like so many Miserix's scenes but none of them stand out as his absolutely best scene...probably his "official" introduction when The Federation of Fear freed him. It did a great job establishing his character that's also a great example of the intimidation factor I talked about earlier, while also giving him some really badass lines. Also him just telling Roodaka how she shouldn't puppet him is simutaneously funny and badass.
Honorable mention to that scene he arrived to Stelt and threatens a Steltian trader due to him not telling him Teridax's location. Mainly due to it having his best line in the entire series:
“I don’t have time for this. I have places to be, and bodies to break. I want you to send out a message to all your friends, to everyone who sails in and out of this island. Tell them Miserix is back, and when I find him, Teridax is dead!”
Like man, this line is such a perfect example of what I mean when I say Miserix gets the best lines! Its just raw unadulatered badassery and I love it!
Idea for a story
Post-canon/post-reformation where he gets to heal and rehabilate himself. I'm very much of the mind tht Miserix should have a chance at redemption: Yeah sure the guy was an angry vengeful dragon fueled by murderous rage against Teridax but he wasn't really a bad person himself nor did he bad things and thus shouldn't really be punished. I don't really like how some people in the fandom treat him like a rabid animal that needs to be put down when he isn't that far gone. He deserves to live and recover! Which is what I want: him slowly recovering from his trauma and pain, and him finding a community that will support and help him. Also get this dragon therapy or anger mangment at least he needs it so badly!
I'd also like to see a story about how Miserix was like before his exile. Miserix pre-exile self fascinates me to no end and getting to see what kind of person and leader he was before Teri ousted him would be great! Just to learn more about Miserix's values, how he saw his and the brotherhoods purpose in the larger MU and what his relation was to Mata Nui would be so cool! I need character studies on this guy and I need them now!
Unpopular opinion
Miserix is not boring! It annoys me so much when so many people in the fandom dismiss him, calling him a boring and unnecessary filler character that's an example of why the serials focus on superfulous new characters was bad.. when he's not. Yes, the serials have problem of ignoring the already established characters we already know and love, instead focusing on new players or bit characters fans weren't that attached to all because they wanted to focus on the grander world and have larger stakes...but this doesn't mean the new characters the serials revolved around weren't bad, and Miserix certainly wasn't! He is a geniunely compelling character with solid characterization and people ignoring him makes me so sad :C. Especially when they say he's just a violent angry dragon with nothing else going on for him. Sure he is a violent angry dragon, but he wasn't always like that and the story how he became who he is today is geniunely one of the better character stories in the series. Not to mention how he has a bit more going on with him than just angry murder dragon, even if you ignore his past self and focus on the Miserix we see in the story. Killing Teridax is his priority for sure, but there are times when he's able to prioritize on other things and thus doesn't mention his objective. See the scene where he interacts with the Hagah for a prime example.
Another thing that bothers me about peoples takes on Miserix is how people try to categorize Miserix on whether he was a "good" or "bad" person. One of the reasons Miserix is such a fascinating character to me is due to him being one of the few characters in the series that isn't really good or evil but somewhere in between. He was someone who was rigidly loyal to his duty and purpose in the universe, but he was willing to do some shady shit for accomplishing it. And when he became an angry murder dragon he only realy wanted to kill Teridax! He didn't care about hurting anyone else, only hurt them if they came to his way.
Also on a related note, I dislike Greg saying Miserix didn't care for his duty and was just happy of the power it gave him. Miserix is a much more interesting character if he geniunely cares about his job as the guardian of the universe, if he geiunely wants to protect the world and take good care of it to the point he sees it as his entire being rather than if he was as selfish and power hungry as other Makuta and was just content of his positiion of power so didn't try to take over anything.
Favorite relationship
Tbh none of Miserixs relationships are that "developed" in canon as I wish they were (curse for lategame Bionicle prioritizing over plot over character relationships) but I find his relationship with Takadox so fascinating. The little we know is that Miserix hired Takadox to act as a brotherhood spy due to him being "corruptible" and that Takadox most likely cared of Miserix based on how he looked at him when Barraki left that meeting with BoM. And that's just so fascinating. Miserix essentially taking advantage of Takadox is a concrete example of how he did some really fucked up stuff for the greater good. It makes me wonder how much Miserix affected Takadox becoming what we see in the story proper or if he was already a slimeball and Miserix just took advantage of that. Meanwhile Takadox seems to at least somewhat genuinely care about Miserix based on his reaction, which gives an interesting layer to his character. The idea that Takadox, someone who mainly sees others as toys or obstacles, would have had someone he actually loved and cared about is soo compelling to me and for that person to be someone as powerful and menacing as Miserix makes it even better. Their relationship has so much potential and I wish we had gotten to see them interact in canon. Oh well, at least we have fancontent and headcanons to satisfy those needs!
Favorite headcanon
His voice has an incredible vocal range and as such can vary his voice to sound between extremely feminine and masculine. His "regular" speaking voice he defaults to is either androgynous or does that weird thing where he manages to sound both feminine and masculine at once. It's hard to explain what I mean but basically speaking in a way that sounds like two people speaking at once.

How were the AN fables chosen for The Scorpion and the Frog?
It depends. For the first chapter, I already had that fable in mind for the start... the Oxen and the Donkey is a story that I already knew and liked. However, I had the last minute realization (based on a response from my friends who read that chapter before I ever put it up publically) that most people are not familiar. With obscure fables. So, I had the idea of rewriting them at the end-- but interestingly, in my google docs, those a/n: fables dont exist. that's because I just straight up tended to write them as I was publishing the chapter. that also lets me reinterpret those fables to better suit the chapter: I think it's actually fun to go look up the fables and then compare them to the version that I wrote down. so, for the second chapter, I was on aesop's fables wiki page, read through all the stories that had 'frog' as one of the animals, and went with the one I thought worked the best.
farmer and the viper, itachi's first pov chapter, I had that one picked out early, its another favorite fable of mine. goat and the vine: i went through a lot of different fables looking for something that suited this chapter, but in the end I really liked goat and the vine because of its nature: this is a sacrificial goat speaking to a grapevine that will also be poured on the altar. the dead speaking to the dead. i thought it was a great intro for the akatsuki, and for the fact that kaeru had now entered the "doomed" part of her life. I dont have a lot to say abt wolf and the crane, I think that's self explanatory...
Crow and the snake: i liked it bc id already given itachi a snake story earlier and crows are also his thing. like the farmer and the viper, itachi becomes the crow and the farmer, killed by the snake. in many ways its a deeply ironic fable for him, because while hes the one in the fable, the one who needs to learn the fable is his symbolized killer-- sasuke, the snake. lol
dog and the sheep. akatsuki chapters get akatsuki titles
hawk and the nightengale: you dont want to know what its like constantly googling stuff like "what birds eat frogs" "what predators preffer to eat frogs" "frog predators". anyway, its sasuke's first chance to be a bird! its ambiguous, naturally, which one he is. rivers and the sea: took me a long time to settle on this one. I think its a little cruel to say that all of itachi's fables are "what can you expect?" deals because itachi's inherent character demands he seek hope from a cruel universe. what did he expect indeed. deer without a heart: i liked the image of a zombie deer i will be real. but i also liked the idea of returning to the lion's cabin, a very literal representation of kaeru's actions compared with their metaphorical weight
scorpion and the frog: i was so happy to get to the name drop chapter. yes i outlined this in advance so i did always know what fight would be getting this name. black-bird and the birdcatcher: ... "friend, if this is what you offer your guests, no gods will answer" "but birds will." and the birds did come, did they not?

A Short Guide on Playing Gourmand
Hello everyone! I just wanted to make a short guide consisting of tips that helped me the most in my Gourmand run! Gourmand is currently my favorite of all the DLC characters to play due to his wide range of tools and his campaign being nicely balanced. This tip will include minor spoilers on AREAS and CHARACTER MECHANICS as well as a certain character-specific quest so if you want to experience those for yourselves, this is your warning. -Why should you read this guide? I've heard a few people share their experiences playing Gourmand, and while I don't want to invalidate their responses I want to say that these tips have helped me to avoid some of the significant complaints and troubles people have had while playing Gourmand! So let's dive into it :))
1. CRAFTING MECHANIC This is one of the greatest additions to Rainworld remixes in my opinion. It changes how you evaluate items and what resources to look out for, while being balanced and fun. Gourmand has tons of recipes at their disposal which you can find the entire crafting table on the Rainworld wiki, but here are my personal favorites: Quality of Life Recipes: rock + firecracker plant = grenade Probably the most basic recipe that everyone and their grandmothers has figured out. Still very useful. slime mold + mushroom = baby nootfly baby nootfly + slime mold OR baby nootfly + blue fruit OR baby nootfly + (any edible item) = 4 food pips This is one is one of my favorites because Gourmand has a staggering food requirement of 7 food pips to hibernate, which can be frustrating for players. However, this recipe can turn 2 food pips into 4 food pips provided a mushroom is near, which saves you a lot of time looking for food in places like Underhang. Do note that avoid using this recipe when an Adult Nootfly is near, since it will still upset the Adult Nootfly despite not originating from it. rock + mushroom = sporepuff Sporepuffs are always useful, from being an insecticide to a Raindeer toll fee. I'll mention this one later for a different reason rock + firecracker = grenade grenade + rock OR grenade + unpopped bubblefruit = pearl From when I am writing this guide, it's actually been a couple of weeks since I last finished my Gourmand run, but even though the wiki says grenade + unpopped bubblefruit = snail, I remember it resulting in a pearl. If I'm misremembering please correct me in the comments. Anyways, grenade + rock is probably the better option anyways because you don't miss out on free food. That said, pearls are useful in passing scavenger tolls, befriending scavengers, and getting a free passage through an easy chieftain achievement. I've always found in all my runs that befriending scavengers is way more useful than ignoring them. I know people have had problems with the occasional grumpy scavenger nailing them with a spear just for kicks, but personally that's only happened to me once. On the other hand, the free bodyguard services came in clutch several times. Plus, not having to worry as much about scavengers randomly throwing spears at you is very nice. I will say that if you want a very nice ending in the Gourmand run, you will have to pass a toll with no pearls in sight (at least in my run). Chieftain status helped me a lot as I could just pass through with a minor offering of a spear. sporepuff + rock = "paincones" AKA Beehives I actually did not know the names for these prior to researching on the wiki. This is a niche recipe as sometimes the bugs that spew out of the thrown paincone will sometimes attach to you as well as the target, but they make decent bartering tools with the scavengers. Also this item helped me get a Centiwing for *the quest* that I will mention more on later. grenade + karma flower = firebug egg firebug egg + grenade = singularity bomb Ah yes, the singularity bomb. This portable black hole that Gourmand is famous for is pretty much known by everyone at this point, but I wanted to include it here anyways because for my first singularity bomb I thought it required two karma flowers. So I wasted my time and resources to make one singularity bomb when I could've made two. Vulture Grub + Karma Flower = Vulture Mask Ever wanted a Vulture Mask without having to kill a vulture or have it chase you around through several cycles? Well now you can just make one! Food Quest Recipes Pretty much everyone knows about the food quest, but I'll just summarize it here just in case: If you want to unlock slugpups in Gourmand, Survivor, and Hunter runs, you'll have to finish Gourmand's food quest of eating at least one item on a list of edible items, the entire list being on the Rainworld wiki. You can eat the items in any order, though I recommend eating them in the order found on the wiki. Some items can be crafted, which is why I'm including them in the crafting section. Jellyfish + Rock = Lilypuck Lilypuck + Rock = Lamp Lamp + Jellyfish = Glowweed I'll be honest with you, I don't know where to find Glowweeds. They're somewhere in Shoreline, but I've never encountered a single one in my semi-blind playthroughs, either through not running into one or just not seeing one. However with the multitude of jellyfish in Shoreline, it's easy to just craft one. Also, Lilypucks are an item on the food quest list, so if you didn't grab one in Shaded Citadel you can easier grab one in Shorelines.
That pretty much summarizes my crafting tips for Gourmand, although there are also more fun recipes you can experiment with on your own. But crafting is not the only thing that's great about the Gourmand!
2. GOURMAND PLAYSTYLE/COMBAT At first glance, the portrait art of Gourmand and Artificer suggest that the Gourmand is a happy goofy fellow while the Artificer is an unstoppable force of destruction. I'd argue gameplay-wise the Gourmand is just as a natural force of destruction as the Artificer is, if not more. This chonky fellow boasts so many tools to take down enemies: Gourmand does a huge amount of damage per spear, doing around 3 damage on hit. The downside? He gets instantly tired upon throwing a spear. This means throwing a spear around multiple enemies risks being caught after throwing by anything that wasn't hit. To circumvent this, try to lure enemies to a pipe. If they already have their back to the pipe, just throw a spear and then go through the pipe to rest, then go back if you still need to finish them off. If they are chasing you, go through a pipe, and just as they are following you, go back through the pipe. Now they are on the other side with their back facing the pipe entrance. Now you can escape, or go back through the pipe to get a free hit on the enemy. Keep going back and forth through the pipe until the Gourmand is ready to go again. I call this pipe camping, and it is highly useful even on normal Survivor/Monk runs as slugcat is basically invulnerable as long as they stay in the pipe. However, it is even more useful on Gourmand as you can dish out a massive amount of damage while avoiding being cornered while exhausted.
The bodyslam. Everybody knows the good ol' bodyslam, you fall onto an enemy from high enough and the Gourmand's splendid girth will stun the enemy and do a big chunk of damage. However, if you're feeling confident in your sliding skills, sliding into an enemy will also stun and do some damage, though not quite as much as damage. Still useful in a pinch.
More on Exhaustion. Have you ever just been running around as Gourmand when suddenly you're exhausted just as a lizard pops out behind you? You still have a chance! Even when exhausted, spam hopping can be just enough to get you to the nearest pipe entrance. Gourmand can still cover a significant amount of terrain by spam hopping even when they're exhausted. If you need to climb a ladder, sometimes jumping off and rolling can be just enough to get you to a different pipe entrance while misleading predators. Once you've made it to the pipe entrance you're safe, as you can catch your breath exactly as detailed in the combat section.
On swimming. I know this seems obvious, but just a reminder: always take a second to breathe before swimming as Gourmand. When Gourmand is exhausted they drown very quickly, so better safe than sorry. Also if you're going straight from Survivor to Gourmand, in Shoreline there are eel lizards. These things are extremely fast in water and you cannot outswim them, so pack a flashbang (blue fruit + rock), as flashbangs can temporarily confuse them.
On storing items. At first it may seem that Gourmand cannot store items in their belly, as holding the pickup button makes them regurgitate a random item at the cost of one food pip. However, if you press E while holding an item after regurgitating a random item, the Gourmand will store the item in their right paw. Do note that when storing an item, the Gourmand will need to cough the current stored item before they can generate another random item. One last note: the big centipede part of the Gourmand food quest. I've noticed that many players have recommended going for an Aquapede rather than a Red Centipede, and honestly that totally makes sense. Do what is most easiest for you, however if you're like me and you hate dealing with anything in water, I'll share an easy way to get a red centipede. In the Garbage Wastes there is now at least one Red Centipede. Around here:
Tumblr media
(map image courtesy of https://rainworld.miraheze.org/wiki/Rain_World_Wiki)
there are approximately three to two mushrooms. Craft two sporepuffs, store one just in case and throw them at as many segments of the red centipede's body. Note: sporepuffs DO NOT immediately kill a big centipede. Make sure to kite it for a few seconds before it dies. After about two to three seconds it should go limp and then you can approach it. Aaaand that's all the tips I have on Gourmand! In my opinion, Gourmand is one of the best DLC characters. They perfectly capture what a remix should be: adding new creative mechanics that the player can experiment with as well as new drawbacks while remaining fun and balanced. This campaign has totally changed my outlook on items such as rocks and mushrooms, especially mushrooms, an item I previously saw as mostly useless. The variety of tools in the Gourmand's arsenal are both powerful and many, I hope more Rainworld players appreciate Gourmand for both his adorableness and his gameplay design.

Double Trouble Sexual Orientation Headcanons
I don’t know what inspired me to make this post, I just wanted to share my thoughts and the general vibes of various sexuality headcanons about our favorite enby lizard. Keep in mind, these are just my opinions, and they’re not backed up by evidence. This is all in good fun.
Under a cut because this might get long
Yes, I know that Jacob Tobia referred to them as gay in a tweet, and the SPOP Wiki lists them as Achillean based on this, but I’d argue this doesn’t technically count as canon, since it was never established in the show itself (the only possible mention being them calling Sea Hawk “Hot Stuff”), so I think people’s headcanons and non-achillean ships are perfectly valid. That said, I’m not against the idea of them being gay, and I can definitely see it.
Gay/Achillean: This definitely holds up. DT is a theatre kid, after all, and we all know theatre kids are gay (joking). They have big twink energy, and of course, the classic “That’s your cue, Hot Stuff.” Some of my favorite DT ships are with men (Bow, Wrong Hordak, Peekablue, and Sea Hawk). However, I still think they have good chemistry with Catra, and I personally like the headcanon that they had a crush on her and may have felt bitter at being second-best to Adora, thus fueling a bit of the meaner parts of their betrayal. I still imagine them with a preference for men, but I don’t think women are out of the running.
Lesbian/Sapphic: This one’s a lot less common. I’ve actually only seen one person headcanon this, though there may be a few more. They don’t quite give me lesbian vibes, but they do seem to have chemistry with Catra, and I like several ships involving DT with a woman (such as Catra, Adora, and Scorpia).
Bi/Pan/Omni/Poly: This is my personal headcanon and has been ever since I got to know the character. They just seem like the kind of person who has lots of affection to go around (whether this is romantic or sexual is up to you). I lean more towards bi or omni for them because, as I said, I feel like they have a preference for men, but I feel like they get crushes on women, too. Though, let’s be real, it’s more likely for people to crush on DT than the other way around. They KNOW they’re the hottest bitch on Etheria!
Aspec/Arospec: Another one of my personal favorites. Yes, I’m biased, since I’m ace, but COME ON, it’d be such a glorious defiance of expectations and stereotypes, and DT would live for the chaos they’d cause by oozing sexual energy and not being interested in doing a thing about it. They’d be this untouchable, irresistible them fatale and OWN IT. But I feel like they’d also be fun as an aroace because of their ability to read people. They’ve got it down to a science, and logically analyzing romance/sexual attraction in an attempt to understand it is SUCH an aroace mood. They also seem like the type who just wouldn’t be interested in dating, and as I said, it’d be great if this gorgeous, smooth-talking, flirtatious lizard in a skin-tight outfit wasn’t interested in sex. What a power move! Of course, you could also see them as ace and alloromantic, gray ace, demi, allosexual aro, etc. I like the idea of aroace DT as much as ace DT who DOES date. As for their intimate life, maybe they do, maybe they don’t, maybe they do and just don’t care much about it one way or the other, maybe they do only under specific circumstances—there’s a whole variety of ways an aspec and/or arospec DT can be written, and I think it’s one of the most interesting interpretations of this character!
Polyamorous: I mean. Obviously. DT is so easy to ship, so you might as well make them date everyone XD. But seriously, I love this headcanon and think it fits them very well, and it’s one that I include in daydreams and the few fanfic things I’ve written.

I finally started to read shards of the nexus! I'm very far behind though so, no spoilers? I just wanted to drop by and say that your writing is fantastic in these. I loved the gore element of Puzzles having to regrow his internal organs! Really cool! And the riddles are all very interesting so far, YJ and Puzzles are my favorites so far!
Can't say I understand much as of now, I feel like I'm missing a lot of context (I fundamentally don't know what a riddler is) so I'm going to read some wikis now, any advice on what I should be looking for? If I want to get context I mean. I'm really enjoying the journey though, i love Helix a whole lot already, she's nice! And her descriptions seems very smell focused which I can empathize with. I love how she describes to world around her, I'm learning meny new words thanks to her too (I'm my defense I'll say that I'm a spanish speaker and you have a very rich vocabulary hehe)
Oooh, I am very excited! And Spanish! Goodness, some of these turns of phrase are difficult even for an English speaker, I am so sorry for all the research ahead of you! Or happy? If you like researching, I mean.
Helix has damaged eyes and ears, so she senses magic with her nose! Scent is important to her.
YJ is a sweet darling, and a total nerd. He deserves all the love. And Puzzles is a rude little bitch, but somehow charming as well. I love him so much, he was so fun to RP with, and so fun to watch Swag's writer just roast him all the time. Funny thing; YJ and Arkham were played by the same person! So the sweetest one and the meanest one both came from the same place.
The Riddler is a villain from Batman comics. He's been around for 75 years, and he's been portrayed in a lot of different ways, but mostly he focuses on using riddles and puzzles and traps to commit crimes and challenge Batman. Sometimes he is playful, and sometimes he is very mean, and sometimes he tries to reform, and sometimes he and Batman have to work together. Green is his main color, usually with purple or black, and question marks are his symbol.
Now, Puzzles, Nash, Narci, and Swag aren't based on any canon material. They are original takes on the character. Arkham came from the Arkham Asylum series of video games. There are playthroughs of his parts of the game on youtube, and here he is, speaking to one of the other villains in the game:
youtube
He got a lot meaner after this.
YJ is from the Young Justice cartoon series. it's about the heroes sidekicks coming together to form their own team to fight an underground terrorist organization. It might be worth it to watch the first season, in order to understand what is going on. I remember it being pretty good. They fight a lot of different villains, so YJ only had a tiny amount of screen time. Here it is:
youtube
Poor guy gets no respect.
And Detective was originally based on the Batman: The Animated Series cartoon from 1992. This whole series is great, I really recommend watching it for a good introduction to Batman and his villains. Here is Riddler's introduction, in parts, because youtube:

As you can see, they've always been extravagant.
I know trying to get into characters from DC and Marvel can be really intimidating, since they are huge and have been around a long time! It think this is the best start I can give you for right now. Enjoy!

So since you’re The Person Anons Go To To Complain About Lego Monkey Kid; I figured I’d get this out of my system while also asking for your two cents.
I don’t think the LMK crew have read JTTW. Best case scenario I think they either got some word of mouth stories and read some wiki articles.
And a lot of this comes down to their characterization of SWK and the way the world treats him.
In the book, SWK has a kingdom of monkey, but they’re YAOGUAI monkeys who are capable of speech, making an army, are enslaved several times, and were straight up referred to as his family multiple times. Meanwhile, the show just… doesn’t acknowledge his subjects? They’re at best represented as regular monkeys who wander around the island, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen SWK or MK interact with them on screen. They’re essentially background dressing.
Then you’ve got the season three episode where SWK has stage fright, which… he never really had any fear of public speaking (even to Buddha himself), and straight up gets into a massive public competition and cuts out his own entrails just to prove another guy isn’t immortal. (Even in their own series, they have confirmed SWK starred in his own movie and did voice acting for a game)
Honestly, I get the vibe that the writers care more about the archetype boxes they can fit SWK into rather then who he really is. The rest of the JTTW crew should still be alive? Well no, we need SWK to be our Hermit Mentor. We’ll just imply they’re all dead (or abandoned him for no reason). Sun Wukong has a family of monkeys? Well we can’t have that! Make them regular monkeys so he’s Truly Alone (and also ignore that he can talk to animals).
Sun Wukong is a king, and has been shown to be incredibly comfortable in his public speaking? Well we can’t have that! Because Macaque is our resident theater kid, and we need them to be Literary Parallels! Nevermind the fact Sun Wukong barely interacted with him in the book, but deeply loved Demon Bull King, and DBK has an actual reason to feel betrayed by him.
I’m not bothered by the changes like Macaque having been his old friend at one point or dead characters being alive or even the choice to not acknowledge SWK’s buddha status (in fact, I enjoy some of these), but it’s… really disheartening to see my favorite character be relegated to Lonely Mentor and Macaque’s Sun. He deserves a lot better then the show is giving him, honestly.
SADFAWEGDFGAD anon that was something I said as a jest but haha wow I guess I'm starting to get a reputation (X_X).
But ANYWAY okay folks you know the drill I sometimes find it fun to be a hater so heads up for that and remember that "don't like, don't read" goes both ways <3.
---
But to get to your main gripe anon, now that you've said it I wouldn't be surprised at all if that was the case...like as it is there's already been a number of cases I'm aware of from twitter where members of the LMK crew have put their collective foot in their collective mouth & came across as pretty insulting to Chinese deities for it, & then doubled down with that whole "it's our interpretation uwu" mentality which is, to put it mildly, a kind of shitty thing to do. And in regards to the main monkey himself--and in full acknowledgement of the very blatant hints they've given that there's a lot more going on with lego show Sun Wukong then has been revealed so far, it does at times seem like they're making their version of the Monkey King more in line with the "dumbass monkey who breaks everything" western stereotype than the complex trickster figure you find in the og classic...like of course there are indications that this Sun Wukong may be the one of the more tragic Sun Wukongs out there in that he's been left after the journey with no friends, no companions, no kingdom in any real way, and everyone in the entire world who's met him in person, with a few exceptions, seems to hate his guts. And you could actually refer to Xiyouji itself for explanations on why a lot of that might be: the monkey yaoguai of Mt. Huaguoshan go through centuries of lethal trauma even before the Six Eared Macaque treated them as his personal tools while he was "Sun Wukong," which could have convinced the survivors that the real monkey king had become a wicked tyrant and thus they all ran away in fear; Sun Wukong may have ended up with a case of stage fright from the journey itself because of all the times that Tang Sanzang tortured him for speaking his mind; and Sun Wukong did enrage the entirely of heaven pre-journey before largely becoming an enemy of yaoguai during the journey itself...hell, in the og classic he even starts weeping because after he was banished from the pilgrim group he feels like he has no place he could go :(.
THAT SAID, during the events of Monkie Kid itself Sun Wukong often does come across as a doofus who's doofery gets everyone into serious trouble. Just to give a few examples: him joking around & not focusing during a high-stakes situation is the reason a 4th ring of samadhi was created which got embedded into Bai Longma & eventually into Long Xiaojiao; him lying to Qi Xiaotian & telling him he was going on "vacation" even though he was running around looking desperately for a way to stop the Lady Bone Demon is a major reason she became as powerful as she did; and his entire plan to stop the Lady Bone Demon, massive threat that she is, is presented even by him as flimsy and paper-thin, something made all the worse by the danger the monkie crew was put into in the effort to get the rings & by his refusal to share all the details of it with them until it's too late. And then of course there's the Six Eared Macaque's whole thing where he's violently obsessed with Sun Wukong because they apparently used to be the best of friends before the Monkey King got power hungry, betrayed everyone, and then killed him. So far we haven't gotten so much as a brief flashback that gives Sun Wukong's thoughts about of any of this, so you can see why even if it's not the overarching intent many people would take the message to be "Sun Wukong = sucks." And it's something you see reflected in a lot of the fanart and fanfic around Monkie Kid; practically the only person the Monkey King's ever depicted anymore as being in a good relationship with is Macaque (fandoms tend to hyperfocus on 2 dudes who despise each other but have a more friendly history), many AUs make him an irredeemable selfish asshole, and/or he's being depicted as someone who fully deserves to be yelled at & hated by everyone because of the bullshit he pulled that got everyone hurt. In many ways, LMK Sun Wukong does have numerous similarities to TLJ Luke Skywalker in the way these sequels to their stories made them fail-hermits.
Tumblr media
Now of course it must be acknowledged that across the centuries that Sun Wukong has been a popular figure in Chinese culture's he's gone through a TON of different retellings and interpretations. The monkey king has been depicted as everything from a pious and devoted monk to a crude and lecherous yaoguai to a being that is simultaneously monkey, human, yaoguai, and buddha and who is defined above all else by the capacity for great violence, great restraint, and a powerful and active love for those he considers his family. Even so, it is kind of disappointing that even with allowing for the possibility of Monkie Kid still being able to give satisfying answers for why their Sun Wukong acts the way he does, a good part of his lego show portrayal so far has just been him acting like a careless jester with disastrous consequences and, even if he doesn't mean to, hurting one person after another to the point where his actions, even if inadvertently, even if largely against his will, played a big part in helping the Lady Bone Demon almost succeed in her attempt to destroy all of reality.
Like...how do you even try to atone for that?

Who are your favorite Tekken characters? Could be for any reasons 😄
*cracks knuckles*
Tumblr media
i cropped the ones below the third row bc the ones listed here are the most relevant to me.
putting them under read more because longass texts—
Josie - THE Fav, THE Best Girl, THE embodiment of Wasted Potential. She's my main girl, my main in battles. An emotional optimist who can pack a punch is such a rare combo imo. I really wanna see her drip and story arc in T8, I NEED to see whether or not does she still have that cheerful spirit or if she lost it all because of the world's ongoing war. Please. I need to see my girl back.
Bryan - my most recent addition to the list. I'm not lying when I say I've been sleeping on his man until he stuck that tongue out at the very moment I watched his trailer. 😃 I already consumed all his voice clips and dialogues to get more bread crumbs of his character beyond maniacal laughter. His pessimistic yet logical side keeps me hooked so much. I need to know more about his life. I don't main him because I'll only get distracted.
Alisa - Classic T6 Fav. Sweet personality who isn't afraid to go full-on berserk mode while still looking cute and princessy as hell. 😂 Also my main.
Bruce - didn't mind him until his fans became obnoxious over his replacement in T7 smh (but I'm pretty sure they're the same people who love his OG replacement aka Bryan so I think it's annoying idk). But when I played him in TTT2 during my T7 Fresh From Release Era, I actually enjoyed it lol all thanks to his and Josie's similarities. After that, I dug through what he's like and he became an instant fav.
Lei & Lili - Classic Favs. T5:DR was my first ever Tekken game so I got to main these two and eventually end up loving their characters, designs, and playing around with their movesets. They're so fun :D
Miguel - black sheep of the family but he still seems family-oriented and very caring if you get into his good side. Thing is, he's hella scary and brutal, but that's why his character is dynamic enough for me to like him. Kinda main him sometimes.
Steve - Bri'sh boxer with a heart of gold LOL I can see him being a keeper. I would love to be friends with this guy. Not interested in using him for battles, he's my dad's main so he handle him lmao.
Yoshimitsu - he's a Man Of Honor, is masked 24/7, AND shows absolutely no skin iirc. While the wiki says he's a human with a cybernetic arm, it's kind of an easy bait for me if my man has all those traits I mentioned combined. Hard to master tho huhu
I think I would've added King and Armor King bc I can get a lil' thirsty but I'm too lazy.

So, fun story
Some weeks ago I was looking for Ao3 Originals™️ to read, and I found out that some authors I really really like had an au series that looked really promising. Except that series was not Original Work fandom, but… Batman fandom. Never touched a single comic of him but watched many of the movies, cartoons, and video games over the years, so I decided to give the fic series a try, because the premise sounded so so good
That was either my best decision or my worst mistake. One fic led to the other, and now the account I use to bookmark Original Works is unrecognizable. I have been doing this all day every day since then. I probably have read more of these than I have read mk fics in this time
But it was supposed to stay like that, just au fics, that would be all. Except I told my sister and she told me I *had* to watch both Teen Titans Go movies, and I know you may be rolling your eyes but I actually enjoy that cartoon, we both do, so I accepted
We watched them today. And then one thing led to another and now we started watching the live action Netflix Titans show. Because why not. So that’s how it is currently
Anyway, I need some mk vs dc facts to inflict on my sister, it’s all for a good cause. The only thing that stuck with me from my wiki reading (I never played the game and I didn’t bother to watch the story mode video) is that in his ending, Kuai becomes Batman. Does that make Frost Robin?
…. I think I have a fic idea
(Funny enough, those fics I have been reading playing a big part in getting rid of my writer’s block. Getting to read a bunch of good fics one after the other, all with my favorite tropes and themes, was a very inspiring experience. Not that I don’t read a lot of good fics in the mk fandom or other fandoms that I am properly in, but I never got in any of them to read so many fics that had all these specific tropes. I wish every fic enthusiast one day finds an ao3 collection or two full of fics that hit that exact spot, whatever that may be for you)
(I’m still not getting a new fandom, but…. maybe this morning I intended on playing Injustice 2 instead of mk1. It’s only because I am bored with mk1 after finishing the season, and I have been meaning to go back to unlocking stuff in mk11 or Inj2 some of these days. The fact that I may have formed an emotional connection with some characters since last time I played is just a coincidence)
(Nrs should make a Spider-Man or Symbiote fighting game. I know they belong to Warner but. There is something magical about the experience of having your blorbo in a fighting game. And I like how nrs does games)
