Let me tell you I cannot wait to analyze the hell out of how Trevor and Richter process grief differently.
On the one hand, we have Trevor the emotional burnout who took the unhealthy road of, “I’m gonna keep all my emotions right here, and then one day, I’ll die,” while frequently finding oblivion at the bottom of a tankard.
And based on what we've seen in the teaser and official trailer, now we have Richter who seems to have bottled everything up inside like a fizzy drink and someone has shaken the bottle.  And maybe thrown it at a wall, who knows?
Alucard: I hope you haven't been doing all this sober.
Richter: Alcohol dulls the mind. I refuse to partake.
Alucard: ....I commend you and your healthy liver, but are you okay?

Repost bc I misspelled my boy’s name in both the text and the tags oop—
I need an angsty found family AU where Olrox, instead of killing Richter’s mother as revenge for taking his lover instead goes “you took someone I loved, so I’ll take someone you cherish” and up and kidnaps little Richter. One second the boy is there and the next, shadows descend onto the empty street, and the moment after — he’s just gone.
THE DRAMA of Olrox traveling the world and keeping the kid at first purely to spite and worry his mother, or as part of some evil plan to lure her to her death, but quickly grows attached to him and they become this duo of vamp dad and his (not) son. The angst of Richter hating his abductor and crying and kicking him and telling him that he hates his guts, but when night falls and nightmares force little Belmont to turn and toss in his sleep, it’s Olrox’s lullabies that keep him calm, sung in a language he doesn’t know but with a gentleness only a parent could provide.
And as Olrox puts a hand on Richter’s head, carding his hair he realises, terror-struck, that he doesn’t want to let the kid go. He comes to a horrific conclusion that this is his baby now, whether the kid likes it or not, and it sends the old man’s mind into a spin.
Richter is unlike anything Olrox ever had. He’s never been a father, and doesn’t know how express love and care he’s so desperate to provide. He thinks of turning his newfound son more than once, but settles on waiting as for a little vampire hunter, an event like that would be far too traumatic.
And let’s talk about Richie himself for a second. This poor baby was about to travel to his aunt’s place one night and then got express-adopted by an immortal who is surprisingly gentle with him, yet doesn’t plan on letting him go. As result, baby Belmont throws tantrums every chance he gets, tries using fire-magic against the man (to no avail) and attempts to escape at every turn. At first, he’s in fight or flight mode almost constantly because he knows that the dragon vampire has to be using him for some evil ploy…but then weeks pass, a month, and there doesn’t seem to be much of an evil ploy happening. The two of them simply travel from place to place, where Richter has to awkwardly stand while his…kidnapper? Temporary guardian? Is running errands and talks to other gross, smelly vampires.
He hates Olrox, he’s confused, he feels a strange warmth in his chest when the vampire picks him up and carries him around when he’s too tired to walk, or checks up on him to make sure he’s warm and well-fed.
Just imagine the bittersweetness of Richie developing a bond with his captor in these horrible circumstances, and they start to get along. He feels all kinds of guilt and self-hate for it, every time he fails to stifle a giggle at Olrox’s jokes or can’t help but lean in when he offers comfort.
It’s just such a messy, tragic dynamic, don’t you think? Should I write anything on it? Idk, my ask box is open in any case 🤷

Divine Bloodlines
Tumblr media
Alright. I need to get this one idea out of my system as well. Because I cannot help but wonder... Richter's Theme is called Divine Bloodlines. Which, yeah, fair. Within the context of the games this is just very much a "yeah, the Belmont bloodline is super special". And was the anime worldbuilding the same as the game worldbuilding I would not have put a second thought on this. But... it is not.
In Nocturne we now clearly establish that there is actually such a thing as divine bloodlines. Annette has the blood of a god. Heck, it might well be a theme for this series now, given that Erzsebet has drunken from a goddess and there is a good chance the same might be true for Olrox. And this makes me think: What about the Belmont bloodline?
Like, is there a posibility that they actually also have a divine ancestor? Given they originate from France the ancestor might be a gaulic or brittanic deity. Though I am perfectly honest with you: Those are the celtic gods I know little about. Like, I know stuff about Anglo-Saxon deities, gaelic ones and those from Welsh. But the French ones? Yeah, I know very little about outside that due to the Roman contact they kinda got merged with a lot of Roman gods. And I also know that they still had a lot of animal gods and also a ton of gods associated with the crafts.
Nodens is a god associated with both healing and hunting, so that might be a possible fit. But there are also a ton of local protector deities.
It is just such a weird little thing, though.
One thing I am almost certain off: Annette is gonna teach Richter to enter the Ancestoral plane and we get to see some other Belmonts.

CRACKSHIP fic idea
Julius Belmont x Sir. Integra Fairbrook Windgate Hellsing .
Tumblr media
Julius Belmont
19, has the war of demon Castle prophecy over his head, knows and accepts that he may just likely die in that war and end the Belmont line.
Tumblr media
Sir Integra, 23 has an army of suitors that she dislikes heavily enough that she'll do them to get them off her backs.
It was neither of their decisions to get married, the holy Union was not of their own volition.
Didn't she know that her own husband was a slimy bastard in his own right. Why did she have to make Integra suffer too?
No
It was Little Miss Lizzie dear (Queen Elizabeth II) that had to decided to play marriage guru with Integra.
------
Julius wasn't even a British citizen, he's an American one.
But his family thought that him getting and having a kid before the prophecy it would at least help with the family line.
Besides kid needed a break
Integrity never realized how important the Belmonts were.
Julius never realizes until way later that he married the master to fucking Dracula himself.
Shenanigans ensue
----
Bonus points involving Adrian tepes being so proud that the Belmonts have lived this long without getting themselves killed.
He happily shows up at the wedding,(ends up being the best man because Integra couldn't find anyone else that would fit and Adrian had a lovely track record with the Belmonts)
Seras is the maid of Honor.
Vladcard and Walter both help walk Integra down the aisle. (Because they wouldn't stop bitching about it.
There is an orthodox( a belnades) and an Anglican priest (with Alexander Anderson also jumping in purely because he wants to be a part of the ceremony. )

Out For A Walk
“Your mother and I saved this town once.  The two of us and Alucard, and Greta, and everyone here.  This was long after I’d given up on ever saving anyone.  And long after I’d given up on ever meeting anyone like you.”

I don’t think there’s a better bossfight in anime then Belmont vs Death. It literally starts with the MC staring at the avatar of the concept of death and saying “OI, Death. I want a word with you”
And then they proceed to shit talk eachother for a minute or two before both of them explode. Incredible scene.

My fucked up Belmont family headcanon
Or: Let me talk about medieval religious persecution!
Tumblr media
Okay, my exam is done, weekend is near. And a couple of days ago @autumnmobile12 posted about the child skull in the Belmont family hold.
So let me use this chance to talk about my headcanon both about the Belmont family - and the role of dhampirs in the Castlevania anime universe.
Please note, this at times outright contradicts the game canon. But in quite a few ways the series already does that either way, so to quote one Trevor Belmont: "I don't care."
When the trio comes to the Belmont Hold, Alucard expresses his disgust saying it is like a museum to the eradication of his species. And it kinda seems even more than that, given there are also quite a few other skeletons and what not from other monsters littered throughout the hold.
And, well... That is kinda messed up, right?
Tumblr media
Now in the games the story somewhat goes "Leon is a knight and friends with Mathias, fiancé gets kidnapped, lays down his title, Mathias turns into Dracula, Leon swears to kill monsters, Belmonts become monster hunters." And while this gives a nice through line tying the family to Dracula... historically speaking it is also kinda boring.
So, I decided to tie the entire story back to something else.
And yes, this is mostly just another excuse for me to talk about history. Sorry about that.
Let's talk about Constantine and the late Roman empire.
Tumblr media
If you have read up on your history of Christianity, you might know that first Christians were in fact a persecuted minority, who would in fact often be killed and burned by the Romans. But then in the late Roman period, Emperor Constantine converted to Christianity and suddenly Rome was a Christian empire. Now, there are myths and legends around why he converted. Stuff like him receiving prophetic dreams and what not. But in the end it does not matter. What matters is, that Rome was Christian now and Rome did its damnest to spread Christianity. Moving the capital further East to be closer to the holy land and what not.
Now, with Christianity suddenly being the main religion the tables were turned. And suddenly Rome began to outlaw pegan religion, which included the old Roman religion. You know, the one with Jupiter, Juno, Venus and what not. First it was just small stuff. Like animal sacrifices became outlawed and temples were taxed. But it quickly escalated from there, with temples getting looted and burned. And then, not too many years later, Theodosius I was the new emperor and the violence against the pegans escalated. Temples were burned down and pegans were hunted down, forced to convert or killed.
You might ask now: What does this have to do with the Belmonts?
Well, I will tell you. See, when we look at history, we usually do our damnest to distinguish fact from fiction. But that is usually not history is written down. Especially not religious history. That always comes with a good helping of god-killing.
So, yes. According to myth in fact there were heroes, that came the high medieval period would turn into knights, who went out to kill monsters. And I mean, probably everyone can name at least a handful of dragon slayers at least.
Tumblr media
In real history of course we see these myths are embelishments and symbolism. As myths. But... If we look at the Castlevania world, we can obviously see that in this world monsters are real.
Sooooo... My headcanon for the Belmont family is, that they were in fact employed by the Vatican in the early medieval period to hunt down those monsters as the Vatican saw these monsters as an offense against God. That did not only include vampires, but all sort of other creatures that often were linked to old pegan believes of all sorts.
This means that in my headcanon the Belmonts did in fact hunt monsters before Mathias became Dracula. Even more so: Mathias was a monster hunter as well, which was what gave him the knowledge to become what he became in the first place.
In fact the church had them hunt down monsters of all sorts, making monsters all but extinct by the late medieval period. Which is in fact why the church turned on the Belmont family. They had lost their use and at that point the Belmont family were a constant reminder that those monsters at some point had been real.
To put it differently: The Belmonts have actively partaken in the genocide of several - at times intelligent - species. And have done their utmost to also eradicate vampires and their dhampiric offspring.
They didn't do that out of wickedness or anything like that, but out of religious fervor, because they did in fact believe that they were doing the right thing.
The entire Mathias-Leon-Thing mostly just lead to them having it especially out for the vampires.
Funnily enough though, this also meant, that within Europe where all the monster hunters were, the places that became safe for monsters and other supernatural creatures were either those areas ruled by vampires because vampires did not care too much if there was a griffon living up the mountain as long as it did not hunt down the humans. The other safe place? Granadia, aka the place that later on would become Spain. Because it was under majority Muslim rule and while Muslims were rather stern about not practicing sorcery they did not persecute religious minorities and did not have it out for the monsters so much.
Tumblr media
See, my issue is that the entire "Belmont good, Belmont hunt monsters" does not really gel with what we see in the series. While in the game canon we see that monsters and vampire are creatures of pure evil, this is not what the show is depicting. Vampires are as much complex persons, as the humans are. And as such they absolutely can decide to be good.
And yes, that very much means that I have Trevor later grapple with the fact that maybe his entire family history is not quite as heroic as he had believed it to be before. And that in fact his family also did not quite know as much about the monsters, as he had believed, given that after he has made friends with vampires he finds out that quite a few things he had believed about vampires are just plain wrong.
