Name: Mambele the Pangolin
Species: black-bellied, long-tailed Pangolin
Gender/pronouns: female, she/her
Age: mid. to late 20's
Eye color: Crimson Red
Scale color: Dark Orange and black
Career: Archeologist, treasure hunter
Relations: Bliss the Bat(best friend), Knuckles the echidna (adopted son)
Universe: Boomverse
Description: Quick on her feet, headstrong, and passionate in everything she does, Mambele is a well-known archeologist and treasure hunter( like a mobian version of Indiana Jones). On occasions, will give classes and conferences on her findings, whether it be on her latest treasure find, rediscovered, or newly discovered abandoned civilizations, or etc.
During a particular hunt, among strange ruins, no doubt left behind by the ancients, or at least a group in close association with them, Mambele scours the haunting crumbling city. After a day of searching around and coming up short, she heads back to her camp only to drop through the floor into what she first assumes is a cave. Only to discover a chamber of sorts. Cords and cables, advanced looking machinery lining the weathered walls. She sees a doorway on the opposite side of the room. That must be the entrance then. Long vines and weeds cover the doorway and dangling through cracks in the ceilings, covering numerous pods of sorts. She's not sure what is inside of them, but she does take into account that they were no longer working. No sounds or lights coming from any of the twenty or so pods. Well, none of them, but one. She takes a closer look, wiping away at least an inch worth of dust, to reveal what looked to be an egg. Resting her hand on the metal surface of the machine, she accidentally brushes her hand against a pad. A screen to her right comes on, showing what must be the vitals of whatever was in the egg. They were still alive?! After some quick thinking and good guesses, she manages to open the pod safely. Observing the egg, she hesitates to touch it. Unbelievable. Absolutely extraordinary. This one little egg somehow survived whatever calamity befell its people. She must be very careful. She cups her hands, ready to take the little miracle into her hands, but halts at the sound of a crack. In less than a couple minutes of being freed from its glass casing, whatever lay inside, for who knows how long, was already so eager to come out. She waits another minute, holding her breath for what fell like hours, before finally, a little snout pops out. The little creatures muzzle, biting at its egg with a single little tooth. She begins to hear squeaks and grunts come from the infant inside a it pulls its head back and reaches its hand through the hole. Bright red fur is the first feature she notices, along with a tiny clawed and spured hand. What sort of mobian is this? If it even is mobian. With an efforted cry, they finally tears their egg in two. Giving her a full view of what her mystery creature. Her eyes are wide, and her mouth is set in a thin line. She can't believe what she's seeing. There is no way. It's impossible. They've been extinct for centuries. And yet, here before her, a little round, bright red echidna puggle wiggles out from his egg. Half of it still sitting on his head. His eyes squinted up at her, showing off his beautiful violets. She can not believe it. Even as he smiles and squeaks for her attention, she can't believe it. What sort of technology could do this!? Preserve an egg for hundreds upon hundreds of years! She's broken from her thought as the puggle lets out a whine. He's looking right at her, wanting her attention and warmth. She hadn't noticed before, but the room was fairly cold. He shivers and looks at her with such sad little eyes. She snaps out of her shock and picks him up. A happy coo came from the little one as he's lifted against her. And did his best to snuggle as close as he could. Mambele carefully wraps her arms around him and observes as he finally gets comfortable. So many emotions and questions run rampant in her mind, but something inside of her manages to push it all down for now. Those could be dealt with later. She must focus on the now. Like, packing up and getting home as soon as possible. This puggle will no doubt be hungry soon, and she has nothing prepared at home for caring for a young one. She takes a breath and makes her way to her camp, to gather her things and leave.

Tumblr media
She'd never planned on having a family. Far too busy with her work. But once Knux comes along, she becomes very dotting and overprotective of the puggle. And even with little to no knowledge on infants, she looks to books and motherly instinct to guide her in properly caring for and nurturing her new charge. Her new son.

I had a dream in which I was in some sort of perpetual night/underwater realm. I think it might have been in space or on a different planet because the was a slightly futuristic setting and there were alien creatures.
The people consisted mostly of humans but there were also fishpeople who had the appearances of various marine creatures. One in particular was this old guy at a pub (or rather a mix of both a place to relax at after a long day of work, have some food, watch some telly and also do your groceries). He had kind of caught on that I was a newbie so he picked on me. He did also teach me things such as never let vampire squids near etc.
The place had very strict curfew rules. Despite the perpetual night, people had to ALWAYS, be at home at midnight because after that the creepy crawlies would come out and you would never know how bad it would be.
One time I was trying to hurry a drunken friend home but they were like "it can't be that bad" only to immediately get accosted by a vampire squid. It was this black octopus with yellow eyes all over its body and a leech like mouth. It tried to attack my friend's leg but I kicked it away and had a brief struggle with it trying to avoid it's mouth and trying to grab it. I eventually managed to toss it back into water and we made it home safely.
The next day was uneventful but in the evening there was some kind of conference with a really interesting speaker. They were a human author who dubbed themselves as C.S Lewis but had nothing to do with Narnia. They looked like Howl from Howl's Moving Castle and David Bowie had a love child. Very striking person and very striking speaker. I think the talk was going to be about their journeys across the galaxy and the books they'd written or sth. Idk. They had an assistant who specialized in handling alien creatures.
They sort of just started the talk with some weird speech about the importance of reactions to new and unexpected situations. As a demonstration they just threw a bauble into they audience. It flew to my direction so I lunged at it and made a dodge roll eith my chair to catch it. C.S. Howl Lewis Bowie seemed intrigued.
The next thing they did was release an alien creature in the audience. It was something most people had never seen and apparently something people believed was poisonous or something. It was basically a very peachy pink pangolin the size of a St Bernard and in addition to scales it also had fluffy fur.
The creature ran past me, further up the stairs of the auditorium. People got up from their seats and started moving away in panic. The creature seemed a little stressed about the commotion so I tried to call for it. And it actually turned around and came back to me, sniffed my hand, turned away to leave again but then settled at my side. I gave if a few careful pats and the creature was essentially putty in my hands. It loved pets and it seemed really content.
Howl Bowie and their assistant rushed towards me and were like well that was unexpected. The creature possessed no threat but they didn't expect it to just flow over for belly rubs like that. Assistant carefully secured the creature and proceeded to walk it away backstage. Something caught C.S Bowie's attention and they started. They had some kind of radiation detector on them and apparently I was just radiating dangerous levels of something. I was like can it be the residue of the Tsernobyl incident back on Earth but they just looked at me like I was stupid.
Howl Lewis didn't have time to explain when an alarm was sounded. It wasn't even close to curfew but a horde of deep sea creatures had invaded the town. Everyone had to be evacuated into shelters. Massive panic ensued but apparently C.S Bowie wasn't all talk. They took control of the situation, managed to calm the people down and proceeded to locate the closest escape vent.
When I exited the auditorium C.S. Howl Lewis was trying to open the hatch together with their assistant and the fishman from the pub. Something wasn't quite right so I walked up to them and was like why is it not opening. They were like you give it a go since you're so good at everything. They even had time to mock me. I shrugged and just gave the catch lock a good old brute force check and it opened. The looks on the trio's faces were a mixed bag of emotions.
We escaped into the vent but there was another problem. At the other end we were able to hear the sounds of invasion. The exit wasn't secure. I suggested we'd try to find an alternative way out. There were a lot of maintenance hatches along the main one, each having several flights of stairs up to the surface.
I picked one at random and mr fishman decided to tag along. I could hear strange sounds even before I made it to the exit so I very carefully opened the door just so that I could peek into the space. There were several squid people, not unlike the vampire squid from earlier, and one in particular that stood tall on its tentacles, alert, and a weird aura surrounding them. It seemed like a high ranking member of the deep fishpeople. I very carefully closed the door and hoped the squidperson hadn't seen me. They made noises so I told mr fishman behind me to go down the stairs, fully expecting the squidperson to blast in the door. They didn't. They moved their troops elsewhere. I was guessing maybe C.S. Howl Lewis Bowie had created a diversion but I didn't think much about it. We needed to get people out.
My dream actually skipped this part but all the people were safely evacuated. To where, I'm not even sure. But no harm had fallen upon anyone so it was fine.
The next day I went to the pub as usual and mr fishman was just delighted to see me. They werre telling everyone how this thought-to-be-good-for-noting tourist from Earth had saved everyone and even tamed a vile beast on top of that. (I'm guessing what happened with the pangolin is that I probably was of similar origin to it and it sensed familiarity or sth and became extremely docile.) Anyway, the fishman was so impressed that he insisted he should buy me a gift and despite me resisting he ended up buying me the biggest fish on sale. It happened to be this pitch black deep sea angler that was ugly as shit but apparently very delicious when cooked. I was wondering how I would fit it in my tiny oven.
Fishman proceeded to tell the story of how we escaped the invasion whether people wanted to hear it for the tenth time. I spotted C.S. Bowie's assistant. I had seen them at the pub before but hadn't known who they were. They approached me and told me there is sth I should know about the radiation thing and that it was important. No one around me was necessarily in danger but it was more that things around me would just behave unpredictably. Like completely random. Most of the weird occurences so far were likely because of that. The assistant wasn't sure if the invasion was also my fault but they doubted it because all the other things had been much smaller in magnitude. The invasion reeked of something else.
The dream unfortunately ended there. I tried to continue it but Väinö was bugging me so I couldn't.

About Sunderbans National Park
Information About Sunderbans National Park, India
Covering an expanse of approximately 10,000 square kilometers, the Sundarbans forest spans across both India and Bangladesh. India claims around 4,262 square kilometers of this natural marvel, while the rest falls within Bangladesh's territory. Sundarbans National Park occupies the Indian portion, renowned globally for hosting the largest mangrove forest on the planet. This national park is a haven for nature enthusiasts and wildlife aficionados alike. With its thick mangrove cover, intricate network of river channels, picturesque estuaries, and a thriving population of Royal Bengal Tigers and various other wildlife species, the Sundarbans offers a captivating landscape that beckons visitors from far and wide. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the park possesses a unique allure that draws tourists seeking unparalleled natural beauty and biodiversity experiences.
Located at the southeastern edge of the 24 Paraganas district in West Bengal, India, the Sundarbans National Park derives its name from the Sundari mangrove plant (Heritiera Minor). Situated within the world's largest delta formed by the Ganges, Brahmaputra, and Meghna rivers, this national park covers an expansive area of approximately 2585 square kilometers, making it India's largest national park and tiger reserve. The Sundarbans region encompasses around 2125 square kilometers of mangrove forest, while the remaining area, spread across 56 islands, is dominated by water bodies, totaling 4262 square kilometers.
Flora in Sundarbans National Park:
The Sundarbans, renowned as the largest mangrove forest globally, boasts the mangrove tree as its flagship species, thriving uniquely in its waterlogged terrain. With remarkable adaptability, these trees endure prolonged inundation by sending up spikes from their roots, aiding respiration and providing structural support to the mangrove ecosystem. Among its diverse array of flora, the Sundarbans is home to the 'Sundari' mangrove, a distinctive variety that dominates the landscape and lends its name to the forest. Encompassing over 300 plant species, the Sundarbans region harbors a rich botanical tapestry.
Fauna in Sundarbans National Park:
The Sundarbans National Park, dominated by the majestic Royal Bengal Tigers, reigns supreme as the apex predator with a population exceeding 400 individuals. These iconic tigers exhibit remarkable swimming prowess in the park's salty waters and are notorious for their occasional predation on humans. While tourists flock to catch a glimpse of these striped wonders, the park harbors a diverse array of fauna that equally captivates wildlife enthusiasts.
In addition to the Bengal Tigers, Sundarbans teems with captivating wildlife such as Fishing Cats, Leopards, Macaques, Wild Boars, Wild Buffaloes, Rhinoceroses, Indian Mongooses, Jungle Cats, Foxes, Flying Foxes, Pangolins, Barking Deer, Spotted Deer, Hog Deer, and Chitals. The park is also home to saltwater crocodiles and various snake species, adding to its rich biodiversity.
Moreover, Sundarbans boasts a vibrant avian population, featuring a kaleidoscope of exotic birds. Among them are Openbill Storks, Black-capped Kingfishers, Black-headed Ibises, Coots, Water Hens, Pheasant-tailed Jacanas, Brahminy Kites, Pariah Kites, Marsh Harriers, Swamp Partridges, Red Junglefowl, Spotted Doves, Common Mynahs, Jungle Crows, Jungle Babblers, Cotton Teals, Herring Gulls, Caspian Terns, Gray Herons, Common Snipes, Wood Sandpipers, Green Pigeons, Rose-ringed Parakeets, Paradise-flycatchers, Cormorants, Grey-headed Fish Eagles, White-bellied Sea Eagles, Seagulls, Common Kingfishers, Peregrine Falcons, Woodpeckers, Whimbrels, Black-tailed Godwits, Little Stints, Eastern Knots, Curlews, Golden Plovers, Northern Pintails, White-eyed Pochards, and Whistling Teals. These avian residents contribute to the park's enchanting atmosphere, making it a paradise for birdwatchers and nature lovers alike.
Climate of Sundarbans National Park:
The climate in the Sunderbans forest is generally temperate and pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 48 degrees Celsius. Due to its proximity to the Bay of Bengal, humidity levels are consistently high, averaging around 80%, and heavy rainfall is common. The summer season, lasting from March to May, is characterized by hot and humid weather. Monsoon conditions prevail from mid-May to mid-September, marked by increased humidity and windy conditions. The region frequently experiences storms, particularly in May and October, which can escalate into cyclones. Winter sets in from October to February, bringing colder temperatures to the area.

“Are you...?” My dear!!!
I went with Mimi and Buka for this one!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mimi wandered around Terrovania, their eyes inspecting the different options. Would she go to the Purity Twins? Or should she want to hear some rock albums with Teivel? He thought about this while walking between the rooms, until he felt a slight pressure on her leg. When he looked down, he saw something very unusual. A black pangolin had leaned on their leg.
"Aww, how cute you are!" she said as she took it in her hands. She didn’t think she'd one in Twisted Wonderland, especially in Night Raven.
"Why are you here? Are you lost?"
The pet seemed slightly nervous, but he was calm enough to let her take care of him. His scales were smooth and lucient, of a pitch black that faded into light grey on the belly.
Mimi almost didn’t notice that Victor had arrived next to her, and that he watched the scene with an amused expression.
"So you found Buka, huh?" he asked, looking carefully at her expression passing from relaxed to surprise.
"This is Buka? What happened?"
She asked, looking at the pangolin, which looked back and raised its claws as if to apologize.
"During the Potions class something went wrong...but Professor Crewel says it could last for a few days.." Victor explained.
"Mmm. That means you’re not going to class? If so then I can take care of you, you could be my familiar for a while!"

Did you know that Pangolins are the world’s most trafficked mammal? Pangolins have roamed the Earth for 80 million years, yet the illegal wildlife trade now jeopardizes their existence. Their scales are used in traditional medicines and their meat is considered a delicacy in parts of Asia.
In partnership with local activists in Asia and Africa, our friends at Fauna & Flora International are committed to ensuring these unique creatures don't disappear forever. Here are four ways they are protecting pangolins:
🏷️ Tagging black-bellied and white-bellied pangolins in West Africa for tracking their movements in the wild.
🤝 Collaborating with local partners in Southeast Asia to combat poaching and trafficking of Sunda pangolins.
📸 Conducting camera-trapping and biomonitoring activities to detect pangolin presence in Asia and Africa.
🛑 Implementing an illegal wildlife trade program in Myanmar, Cambodia, and Vietnam to reduce pangolin trafficking.

Illegal food trade's...
Pangolin
Pangolins are now the world's most illegally traded wild mammal – more than one million poached over the past decade (more than rhinos, elephants, and tigers combined). A pangolin is poached every 5 minutes. Asian pangolins have hair between their scales; African pangolins do not.
Tumblr media
Four species of pangolin can be found in Africa, and four in Asia. The four species that live in Africa are: Black-bellied pangolin (Phataginus tetradactyla) White-bellied pangolin (Phataginus tricuspis)
Pangolins have an extremely important ecological role of regulating insect populations. One single pangolin can consume around 70 million ants and termites per year. If pangolins go extinct, there would be a cascading impact on the environment. “Pangolins save us millions of dollars a year in pest destruction.

Hey @bastart13 I have Tashi and Laurel brainrot.
Pairing: Tashi x Laurel
Also featuring: Faye, Laurel’s snow leopard familiar and Tashi’s pangolin familiar, Anne
Laurel brought Tashi a gift
Laurel scratched behind Faye’s ears. Tashi had invited her to his shop after he closed up for the evening. He had said she could bring Faye.
Laurel adjusted her hip bag eyeing Faye "Okay so Anne is very cute but a little shy....don't crowd her."
"I never crowd"
Laurel rolled her eyes "You absolutely do crowd, do you recall that time Asra came home and you knocked him over, he almost broke his wrist catching himself."
Faye somehow managed to look bored by the whole conversation "I will be a model guest."
Laurel sighed and gently knocked. A few seconds later the door swinging open.
Laurel couldn't help the huge grin when she saw Tashi. His hair was slightly messy, as he focused on delicate beading on a top.
Anne scurried away from the door, hiding under a fabric pile near him. Faye stepped through the door, promptly plopping herself in a fading beam of light.
"Faye?! Don’t be rude"
Faye simply rolled over, revealing her belly, small fangs visible in her mouth.
Tashi laughed slightly, rolling over to them "She must get her manners from you."
Laurel flushed brightly "I'm not that rude....Faye!"
She gently shoved Faye with her foot and the lazy little snow leopard sat up, eyeing Tashi.
Tashi held out his hand to her, patiently waiting.
Faye eyed him suspiciously, before gently pressing her nose to his palm.
"Sorry...she's...."
"She's like Anne in that way, its okay, come over here I want to show you the gown I've been working on."
Laurel smiled following Tashi to his work table. Black fabric overflowing on the table. Laurel tilted her head side to side, the fabric appearing to shift from black to blue to red.
"Oh this fabric is amazing!"
Tashi smirked slightly "Knew you'd love this fabric, the buyer I guess needs something that blends two kingdoms together, I figured a magically shifting fabric would help."
Laurel reached down to touch the fabric before pausing "Can I....touch it..?"
Tashi pointed to a bowel behind him "Wash your hands, this fabric can stain really easily, and frankly enchanting it for stains is tedious."
Laurel nodded, washing her hands before returning to the table, taking the silken fabric in her fingers.
"Oh wow...this fabric is so light, but it looks like it would be heavy considering how tight the threads are."
"You'd be surprised how strange fabric can be, Vesuvia is a great place to find unique fabrics, so many ships travel through here."
Laurel leaned over the table.more, the beading on the sleeves catching her eye. "How do you keep your focus? This looks so incredibly tedious."
Tashi laughed "When you are driven by passion for beautiful things it's easy to find the focus."
Laurel felt a small shiver of shame, thinking back to her cluttered shop, her less than pristine labeling system and her subpar sewing skills. She faltered for a moment before swallowing hard "I uh....I made you something...."
Tashi looked over at her, brows raised slightly "Give it here. Let me see."
Laurel reached into her pocket, pulling out a beautifully wrapped square, handing it to Tashi. He pat a stool nearby as he began to unwrap the delicate paper, Laurel plopping down next to him.
"It's nothing much, if you hate it, or whatever it's fine I..."
She paused when a finger pressed to her lips "Be quiet would you. Don't undermine yourself, it's not cute."
Laurel avoided his gaze, face hot as she waited for his response.
Tashi pulled out a...napkin? Hankie? He wasn't sure but he noticed it was made of a delicate linen and was embroidered with flowers.
"It's uh....."
"I'm sorry it's bad I don't..."
"Shush, it's not great, but did you do this embroidery?"
Laurel nodded, her eyes shyly meeting his.
Tashi faced her, pulling her hands out of her lap "Okay so it's not....great work but...you have a good sense of shapes and you picked good colors, they look nice together."
Laurel nodded slightly "Um...any tips to do better next time?"
Tashi looked over the fabric before nodding "I'm not the best embroiderer myself, but this fabric is too delicate for thread this thick, next time pick something with a heavier weave, it will help you keep your shape."
Laurel listened, leaning in closer as he spoke.
When Tashi lifted his head to look at her, they realized how close they were, he could count the freckles on her cheeks.
"Oh uh...sorry, invading your personal space."
Laurel made a move back, but he gently grabbed her hand "You don't always have to run away when you get close to me."
Laurel blushed "Oh jeez it's not! Oh shoot not that's not it. I just have a bad habit of getting too into people's space, makes people uncomfortable so I tend too try to make space if I realize I'm too close...."
Tashi rubbed his thumb over her knuckles "When did I ever say you make me uncomfortable getting close?"
"Oh I just...I always do it so I just assume people want space...from me....."
Tashi gently pulled her back into his orbit "Don't pull away unless you want too....you know I'll tell you exactly what's wrong if I'm bothered....for example your fern leaf here is very lumpy, what happened to it?"
Laurel laughed, grinning widely "I think I was getting tired but I wanted to finish..."
Tashi sighed "You rush somethings and drag your feet in others."
He fixed her with a look and Laurel blushed again "Uh...I..."
Tashi startled slightly when Laurel's face moved closer, her nose brushing his "This dragging my feet..."
She caught the softest sigh from him before closing the gap between them.
She laced her fingers with his pulling him a little closer. She pulled away after a few moments, grinning at him.
"Okay yeah...that's good..."
"No more accusing me of dragging my feet?"
Tashi grinned, rubbing his face against her cheek. She squeaked "Tashi! Your face is so scratchy!"
"No more accusing you of dragging your feet and this is me formally telling you that it's okay to invade my space....as long as I'm not like..super busy..."
Laurel smiled, kissing his cheek "So never because you are always busy."
Tashi looked offended "I am not always busy....just mostly busy..."
Laurel laugh "Right...mostly busy..."
Tashi grinned "Well...get better at this" holding up her gift "and maybe you can help me make something..."
Lacing her fingers with his. She appeared to be thinking "That seems like a lot of work...."
"Oh hush."
Laurel laughed "Okay fine....."
Tashi was about to say something when he looked over Laurel's shoulder. Laurel turned to look, finding Anne and Faye sitting together staring at them.
Laurel sighed "I believe that's my cue...Faye does like her beauty rest...."
Tashi smiled as Anne crawled into his lap, following them to the door.
"You know...I do have a spare couch....in the fabric room..you can always stay.."
Laurel smiled softly "Faye has a hard time with new places.....maybe next time?"
Her hand threaded through his hair, untangling a few strands. Tashi sighed as she worked his scalp.
"Oh I didn't know you could do that....."
Laurel blushed "Oh hush."
Tashi winked at her "You are too easy to catch off guard...it's fun."
With that she stepped into the cool night air. Faye gave Tashi a nod before following behind her.
"Thanks for showing me your new gown. The buyer is going to love it....you did beautiful work like always."
"Thank you for taking an interest in my work....and for my gift."
Laurel leaned down, kissing him again. Tashi grinned against her before yanking her into his lap. Laurel flailed for a moment “Tashi!!!”
He gave her a shit-eating grin and Laurel huffed “Oh you! I’ll break your chair.”
Tashi wrapped one arm around her waist “You think I’d have a chair that could break so easily?” He winked at her and she couldn’t help rolling her eyes at his comments.
“Dinner this week? I still owe you for when you took me out last time.”
Laurel smiled “You know.....I’m happy to just come see you.”
Tashi kissed her knuckles “While I have no doubt I am a beacon of enjoyment, I would like to show you my favorite dinner spot.”
“Fair, sure, I can do in 2 nights?”
“It’s a date.”
Tashi helped her off his lap, waving her and Faye from his step, watching them until the disappeared down the street.
Laurel hummed to herself as she and Faye made their way back to the shop.
“He is.....acceptable.”
“That’s high praise coming from you..”
Faye rubbed against Laurel’s legs as they waited for a cart to pass on the street. Laurel leaned down, picking up Faye like she was a baby.
“Who is a pretty girl? Who is my pretty girl? Who is a good girl?”
Faye ignored her, but Laurel could feel a low purr rumbling against her arms.
“It’s not so bad to meet new people right...?”
“Like I said, he is acceptable...and Anne is very nice.”
