While watching Teen Wolf: The Movie, I found myself asking the question: Who is this for?
I was watching characters that I mostly knew, in a setting I knew all too well, fighting a demon that was instantly familiar, and yet I felt out of place. The plot holes were nonsense and the timeline was wildly inaccurate. So if this…

I’m a little late to the game. Regardless, Spider-Man Into The Spider Verse is the greatest comic book movie of all time. I could’ve done without the loony tunes Spiderman as it makes the reality more into a comic – which in actuality is what it is…so perhaps the spider pig is a good addition to an anomaly of fact. Watching the movie is like flipping through a comic book, except live action. I left the theatre feeling like I could be Spiderman. Which is the compelling quality of comic books.
The addition of Gwen in an already equilateral makeup made the movie finally fully inclusive – or even just the first ever comic movie that dealt with equality in the hero verse … as in its not corny its just a fact that people of color and I hate the term minorities cause it belittles but like that we actually exist and do good things and are phenomenal and go to school while moonlighting as Spiderman. My life is not that excellent or anything, it's pretty normal, the movie made it seem like it was possible for my normal everyday city life to become something phenomenal and adventurous at any time. Growing up in a city, especially New York – which I have no concept of besides friends and dreams - is a very particular way to grow up. Crime is real, villains are imminent, and heroes are few and far between.
Spiderman has always been so compelling to me partially because it was the first comic book I read besides Wolverine that didn’t scare the shit out of me and instead filled me with hope and the possibility that heroes actually exist. It is also a fairly effeminate comic, Peter Parker a drudgy nerd with untapped charisma until bitten by a spider – the radioactive energy of something sci-fi makes it imminent – it was something that was always in him though. With the suit on he is lanky yet sculpted – to be honest, he has the strong build of a woman. Another phenomenon of Spiderman is the legit un-corniness of his character. I’m talking early aughts Peter Parker, the gleam of the new millennium on MJ’s lip-gloss. I read comic books still I’m not the stereotypical comic client. I can’t really afford to follow the multiverse. This movie got me all caught up. Texting with a friend after the movie we both agreed it is the greatest comic movie ever made. Apparently, it had a great effect on young women like me. That’s no surprise as women have always enjoyed comic books. The wonder of the movie is that Spiderman is so often viewed as the only one. This film rectifies the idea that a hero has to exist alone conditionally as white – that there are options finally is enough to make you wish a radioactive spider would go ahead and bite you already.
In your opinion, what level of responsibility do actors, artists and creatives have when they have a platform as a result of their talent or influence? #DaphneReid: “It is their purpose to be responsible with the things that they do. I can’t fault actors for taking a job. The responsibility rests with the writers and the green lighters for creating bad scripts… All art is propaganda. My husband taught me this years ago. You should have a point that you’re trying to make with television. If it’s to subtly bring attention to something that needs attention. You have to give people something to do after they see your show. Something to feel. Some kind of way to enhance life. And at this point, people are just saying things to become what they call “celebrities,” but have no substance. They don’t have any purpose. They’re just for self-aggrandizement. I think that’s a waste of talent. It’s a waste of people’s time. And it has made a lot of people null and void, thinking that this is what life is about. It’s not about accumulating and being seen. It is about leaving something valuable to that space that you occupied.” #DaphneMaxwellReid (#BlackGirlNerd - 2019) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGYjRzhFUKu/?igshid=1hqobj0tbpenq
