i HAVE to go with steddie bodyswap 👀

I'm so glad you asked about this one! Bodyswap is one of my favorite tropes, so this fic is a bit of a pet project for me. It's set post-S4, around April. Eddie is still trying to finish up his final senior year, and the boys each get a taste of each other's respective struggles with school/parents/chronic pain, etc while their friendship is still somewhat new but they're already steadily growing closer. There's also a lot of silly shenanigans with the rest of the ensemble figuring out what's going on with them along the way, and a little bit of plot explanation for why exactly this happened.

A decent-sized chunk of shenanigans below the cut:

It's not his finest moment.

Because Eddie is only half paying attention when Robin turns pointedly to Steve, frowning as she gives him a curious, probing look.

"Hey, Steve," she starts slowly, a questioning lilt to her voice, "did you hear about Tammy Thompson?"

Steve snorts, shooting Robin a coy, teasing look.

"What, is Muppets Live back in town?" he asks expectantly, like he's waiting for her accompanying cackle of laughter.

It never comes.

Instead, Robin's eyes widen as she breathes out, "Holy shit."

Fuck.

"Holy shit, I'm not crazy."

Then she wallops Steve hard on the arm.

"Ow!" Steve shouts, clutching Eddie's shoulder a tad dramatically as he pouts at her. "What the hell was that for?!"

"That was for lying to me, Steve Harrington," Robin snaps pointedly, and Steve's eyes widen as the penny drops.

"Oh, shit."

"Oh shit is right," Eddie agrees from Robin's other side.

Robin turns and smacks him too.

"Damn, Buckley, put those guns away," Eddie complains.

"I'm mad at you, too, Dingus #2."

"I think, technically, I'm Dingus #1 right now."

"Hey," Steve protests with a laugh, "You can't steal the top spot from me, Munson. I'll always be Dingus #1."

"You're damn right you are," Robin interjects. "And also, can I just say…what the fuck, you guys?!"

"Steve?" she confirms again.

Steve looks sheepish, giving her that awkward little wave he sometimes does, wiggling all of Eddie’s ringed fingers in a way Eddie really doesn’t think he should still find endearing when Steve is wearing his body.

“Hey, Rob.”

She whips back around to Eddie, looking almost bug-eyed.

“Eddie?”

He gestures to his own borrowed body with a dramatic flourish.

“In Harrington’s handsome flesh.”

“Oh my god, that really is you inside of there.”

“‘Fraid so,” Eddie tilts his head in acknowledgment. “We’ve gone full Invasion of the Body Snatchers on you, Buck.”

Steve’s brow creases, face screwing up in genuine confusion.

Eddie definitely shouldn’t find the way his nose crinkles and mouth goes all crooked, the way they always do, cute. At this rate he’s gonna develop some kind of a complex.

“I thought it was Freaky Friday?” Steve says quietly, like he’s talking more to himself than he is to them.

The back of Robin’s head hits the wall with a thud, like she’s been physically hit full force with the reality of the situation.

“And here I thought alternate dimensions beneath our feet waiting to swallow us whole was as weird as it was gonna get around here, but, no. We’ve officially found a weirder place. Somebody alert The Weekly Watcher.”

A moment passes, and then her eyes widen in what looks to be slow dawning horror.

"Wait!” Robin jabs a finger in Eddie’s direction. “I told you about–but…oh, god, it wasn't you."

While Eddie blinks owlishly at her, she jerks her head around to look at Steve, doing that thing they do where they have a whole silent conversation with just their eyes and eyebrows.

"God, this is weird," Robin confesses when they seem to have settled whatever just happened.

"Yeah," Steve agrees with a sigh, "tell me about it."

Arthee drops his bottle and curses. “Chay, get behind me.” Kim lets him step in between Kim and the three men while he assesses the situation. “You promised you wouldn’t come by this house after the last payment.” Arthee looks like he wants to run. “My nephews are –” “And you promised to pay all of your debts.” Two men grab Arthee by his arms and push him to his knees. The third pulls out a handgun and pats Arthee’s cheek with the side of the barrel. “Looks like we both lied.” “No!” Arthee’s voice cracks with fear. “I promise – it’ll just take a little time. Porsche is – he will –” “You sure like letting your nephew take on your debts.” The man lifts his arm and aims the gun at Kim. “How about we let the youngest take this one?”

Wait can you talk to me about the Sewis body swap AU? Since when is that a thing? I missed that this was a thing! How does it happen when does it happen pls I need to know more

ok ok so. a few weeks ago my brain broke a little after reading a friend of mine’s bodyswap story and went. what if this was sewis. and then i brainrotted in fran n kyle’s dms like i normally do and yeah. put some of the braindump under the cut bc it got long lol

the bodyswap that works like if you’re thinking of the other person. if you want them or if you want to be them or if you want to be with them. then you switch. doesn’t last that long. easy to reverse. you can either sleep on it and it switches back or get someone to switch you back.

and this happening to them over the years.

it’s 2008 and lewis wakes up one day in a hotel room with a toro rosso shirt draped over a chair and seb wakes up in a room with mclaren merch. and that one. that’s seb looking at lewis and wanting.

maybe it’s after that day where lewis was standing on his own in a meeting or something and seb apparently ran up to him, chatting away, lewis watching him.

maybe they switched one time, a few years back in gp3, back when they were britian’s brightest young star of the future against germany’s brightest young star of the future. they don’t talk about it.

they don’t talk about this time either.

it doesn’t happen in 2009.

it happens in 2010. three times in 2011. twice in 2012.

they still don’t talk about it.

seb thinks it’s all him. knows what he wants, and knows lewis sits under his skin, always always there since gp3. he wants other people too obviously over the years but lewis is always tucked away in the back of his mind.

sometimes it’s difficult to drag his eyes away from mark’s hair even when he’s angry with seb. especially when he’s angry with seb. (he thanks fuck that they never swapped bodies. it was close, he thinks, years later. he wanted mark and mark wanted to be him just as much as mark wanted him. it was so very close.)

and he wants jenson. they have fun. they laugh and drink and kiss in club bathrooms and have messy shower sex and eat cake they’re not supposed to eat in bed. it’s easy and good and jenson never hesitates in saying hi to seb in the paddock, hair still a little messy from last night.

sometimes he looks at nando, with his eyes and his deep anger and his teeth and his hair, that bone hard resentment and fury that seb itches to taste, and wants. it never happens, but seb wants.

but even then. even looking at kimi with his blond hair, and at michael’s broad shoulders and heavy hands pushing seb around while he laughs, he wants lewis.

he’s just always there.

he sleeps with mark sometime during 2017. mark who he has wanted for nearly as long as he has wanted lewis and, still, lewis sticks. lewis is still there.

lewis never tells nico about it. he figures it out himself when they switch sometime during 2014 and things are still good, still laughing, still understandable. nico smiles and for the first time in lewis’s life he doesn’t recognise him. seb stares out of lewis’s eyes and lewis swallows back the urge to cover nico’s face so he can’t see either of them. so they can pretend this never happened. nico smiles. “well,” he says. “now this is interesting.”

it is one of three times nico has ever scared him. he digs his nails into his palms. he’ll say sorry to seb tomorrow for scratching his hands.

jenson was the first person lewis told. the one they ended up somehow going to in 2008. he laughed for five minutes but has kept the sex jokes about it to a minimum since then and lewis loves him more than he can ever say.

it happens a handful of times during 2015. nico’s smile growing wider and wider each time. lewis knows it was seb everytime that year and hates how he can’t bring himself to hate him. seb at least looks apologetic when he sees lewis and doesn’t cause fights with nico in lewis’s body. lewis is so very tired.

toto never finds out. bono knows. lewis isn’t sure if christian does. he’s fairly sure rocky knew.

seb texts lewis. heard you might be joining me in ferrari. there is no question back then that seb won’t be the one replaced. lewis grins. why bother when i’ve got you. i can pop over anytime. seb laughs from across the room. charlie ignores them both.

a few months later, lewis sends him a picture of him standing in seb’s motorhome. he had a shower earlier, properly washed and conditioned seb’s hair. it’s still damp. seb sends him back a middle finger. and then, a picture of roscoe surrounded by newly bought squeaky toys.

they talk about wdcs and michael sometimes and mika. prost. senna. lewis wonders if they ever swapped. seb thinks yes.

(they never did. not when they were racing anyway. when alain retired, their minds went quiet enough that they woke up in each other’s bodies a few times in between the phone calls and aryton’s races. alain never asked aryton what was it that he was wanting.)

they talk about fashion and racing and roscoe. they talk about races not won and races that cling to you in different ways and if they could race anywhere where would they race. they talk about valtteri and kimi and charles and mick and george and daniel and jenson. they talk about nico exactly four times. they talk about mark more. nando a little less. they talk about seb in ferrari and then seb after ferrari. they talk about protesting and standing alone and kneeling and bees and what keeps them up at night. they talk about the cars and seb’s garden and baku and lewis’s music and star wars and the beatles. they talk and talk and talk over the years. over the phone. during driver’s parade. before conferences. on podiums. moments caught before qualifying. they somehow manage to never talk about this.

they keep swapping bodies and the chance at the title back and forth and they only talk about one of those things.

it slowly and surely and softly becomes a part of them. some days seb watches lewis’s fingers play with his rings and lewis wakes up in seb’s body and tidies his fridge and leaves little doodles on pieces of scrap paper around his house. other days lewis finds himself thinking of the hair on seb’s forearms and seb wakes up in lewis’s and bakes vegan bread and meticulously does lewis’s skincare and smiles at nico in the hallways of their apartment building just to freak him out. (it makes lewis laugh when nico looks weirded out to see him the next day even if he pretends to be annoyed at seb when he does it.) they keep wanting and they keep not talking about it.

they don’t really date. lewis sleeps with people every so often. stopping around 2019. he’s getting old. he never asks seb what’s the story with him.

they swap in 2020, a few hours before practise, angela swaps them back. and for the first time in years, lewis doesn’t know who was wanting the night before and is scared it was seb.

lewis is so close to the 7th. he is so very close and this is something they have never talked about but he also knows how seb feels about michael and he doesn’t know what seb was wanting the night before.

me or the wdc, lewis wants to ask him. which one were you wanting, he wants to say. but doesn’t.

lewis is brave. or at least he tries so very hard to be. but this. but this he can’t do. the last time he asked that question he had to live with the consequences and how they ate into him. so he stays quiet, wrapping the question up and swallowing it.

val seems to notice something (lewis never told him but val seems to know about it all, the swapping, lewis being in love with seb, anyway.) because he spends every minute he can that weekend with lewis. stays with him so everytime lewis is talking to someone (everytime he might possibly be talking to seb) val is there, solid and quiet and warm, and lewis loves him.

val follows him around, making near silent comments under his breath about everything and anything, and lewis barely stops laughing the entire time.

lewis wins the wdc and seb is there, right there, hand out and lewis grabs it and holds on because he’s so full of everything (he won he won he won he won he won) that he can’t not and he’s crying. he wasn’t supposed cry but he can’t help it (lewis hamilton seven time champion of the world) and he can’t fully breathe properly but it’s ok (this for all the kids out there who dreamed the impossible) because seb is right there and lewis is holding his hand. a hand that lewis knows, knows as well as his own, and seb is smiling at him, eyes crinkled at the corners.

“you’re making history man.”

and lewis knows that smile. knows the sound of that voice, how it dips and rolls. knows from watching him over the years, hearing him. knows from being in that body, smiling that smile, talking in that voice, that seb is happy for him. seb is delighted. seb is proud. and lewis can’t form the words to say anything right now so he pats him. and holds on.

(one time during the dark year with ferrari they swap bodies. when seb wakes back up in his own, lewis has cleaned his room, bought some fancy blanket and left it on his bed. it’s so soft it feels criminal. there’s a knock on his hotel room door hours later. when he opens it,,there’s a delivery person with some kind of german food that seb had never ordered even though it was his name on the package. this wasn’t the first time seb knew he loved lewis but it was the first time he realised that maybe, maybe, lewis loved him back)

then 2021 happens and it’s. it’s bad. there is barely any room in lewis’s head for anything other than the next race and he doesn’t want seb in his body here. doesn’t want him to see what this is like. and anyway. seb is somehow there nearly everytime lewis wants him to be, whether it’s in person or sending him blurry pictures of chickens and awful bee puns. they swap a few times. it’s nothing memorable.

(at the end of 2020, seb thought of going to lewis and talking about it. talking about everything. 2021 changed a lot of things.)

they don’t switch over the winter break. not once. lewis wants to tell seb thank you. thank you for giving me space. but well. that would require talking about it and lewis is still a little too shaken, a little too brittle, from abu dhabi that he doesn’t. he sends seb a clip of him in the ice bath, eyes catching off of seb’s hips, the broad width of his back. glad i couldn’t feel that cold. seb calls him twenty minutes later and rambles about everything he’s missed for an hour and thirty seven minutes.

2022 arrives and the car isn’t there and lewis is tired and sometimes he looks at seb and feels scared for something he can’t even define. they swap bodies back and forth and it’s one of the best parts of the season.

seb announces his retirement and it digs in and aches like it did when seb told him over the phone, hours before, voice quiet and low.

maybe, lewis thinks, standing in singapore, fireproofs sticking to him with sweat. maybe it’s time to talk about it.

lewis’s i know him as a human being taking on a whole other level

the only ppl seb swaps with are lewis and then michael that one time in 2010

them swapping during one of the rocs where seb drove with michael. (lewis forgot to put on the white noise music he falls asleep to when he tries to avoid thinking about seb and woke up in seb’s bed.) michael took one look at him and laughed so hard he started to cry. lewis punched him in the arm. glaring at seb’s small hands as michael laughed even harder. he switched them back with seb on facetime.

nando being so fucking annoyed in 2007 and so sure that lewis has the better car and wants it so badly that he actively swaps with lewis. lewis measuring the want to prove to nando that it’s lewis winning, not the car, against having fernando’s body win. jenson cackling as lewis texts him about what to do.

dantteri have swapped bodies exactly three different times. dan thinks it’s a sign that they’re meant to be. val just wants to be left alone. (he sends dan pictures of rosa the reindeer every so often though. they bonded when dan woke up one morning in val’s house and wearing his skin and walked outside to see an actual honest to god reindeer.)

(sometimes michael thinks him and mika don’t exactly swap bodies but live in each other’s minds. why would i need to wear his skin, he thinks, after spa, after that overtake, watching mika grin and blush at the praise people are showering on him, when i know his thoughts. when i know how he thinks.)

oh and yukierre !!

it doesn’t happen through the years when they’re teammates. well. it happens two times. barely nothing. both in the first year. they don’t talk about it.

(yuki was still following pierre’s lead in these things back then.)

they forgot about it. kind of. and then pierre goes to alpine or something. and suddenly they’re switching and pierre blames yuki because it can’t be him. he can’t have it be him because that means he’s spilling over again, wanting too much, asking for too much, and he can’t fail again. he can’t. he can’t. he needs to be perfect, so very perfect, and yuki knows it’s not him. not really. knows it’s pierre and both of them maybe that’s making this happen

On the younger soulmate’s 18th birthday, the two will swap bodies for a day. Given that Sonic and Dread weren’t in the same universe, things got rather put off for them.

When Sonic fixed the universe following the events of Prime, he wiped the events of Forces from reality as well. Now the only people who even know it ever happened are himself, and Dread, who he told after he brought the pirate captain with him back to regular reality.

I am insanely weak for dilf!Luffy and this fic hit all the right spots with the delicious smutty goodness. A new favorite of mine!

Fanservice. by Mil0o2 23,169 words, E Law gets a new neighbor who happens to be his favorite dom pornstar "PirateKing56". Incredibly hot BDSM smut and I love the way this author writes both Law and Luffy. Delicious fic, definitely a favorite of mine.'

LuLaw Demon AU! This fic is gorgeous and the ambience is fantastic. Definitely a classic and a must-read!

Curiouser by xairylle 10,125 words, E Luffy asks Law to read him to him while he fucks him. Law complies reluctantly. Smutty goodness with great dialogue!

Stow Away Captains by xairylle 1,884 words, M Zoro POV. Law sneaks into the men's quarters on the Sunny and Zoro doesn't know how to deal with it. Awkward and funny as hell!

I feel like no one really does rec lists anymore! But last night I was feeling and sappy and mushy and decide to put together my own little list of fics I love. These are in no particular order, and they don't follow any real theme/tropes other than I dearly love them all, and you should definitely give them a read!

The Instinctual Gravitation Towards Warmth by kimkhimhant (@kimkhimhant)

This is my comfort fic. No joke, this is what I read when I want to die. It’s angsty as all hell, it’s made me cry, but it is so indescribably good. Kim is an addict going through recovery, finding love and family along the way. He hits rock bottom—arguably multiple times—but always claws his way back, always with the support of the people that love him. It’s such a beautifully written and cathartic story, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve read it. But it’s almost certainly the fic I’ve reread the most.

Sneaking this VegasPete onto my otherwise KimChay list bc it altered me. I think most people already know what it is, but jic: it’s a sci-fi/cyberpunk/android AU, and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever read. I go feral for androids and this fic delivers in all the best ways. The world building alone makes me weep. But all of the characters interactions, the way we get such an in depth feel for everyone despite the limited PoV, and the most satisfying take I’ve seen on android artificial intelligence ever—I can’t recommend this story enough.

This fic is the Kim & Khun vs. Tawan team-up we deserve. Kim is a ruthless, demented bitch, that's too cool to beat Tawan to death bc what if he messes up his wrists right before a show?? Big, get 'im. Kim is the feral-est cat ever, leaving behind evidence and bodies for Kinn bc saying "hey bro, I still love you/look out for you" is too much emotion for him. The fic is also from Tawan's PoV which also makes it the funniest thing ever, for reason that I won't spoil <3

Oh my god, this fic. Canon divergence (technically??) where most things happen as normal... except KimChay have been bodyswaped at the start of it. The little twists Shu puts on the events of canon, given it isn't the correct characters experiencing them (such as Big being very confused about why Kim is suddenly nice to him??) are so much fun.

Kim is an artist and Chay is the part time nude model he hires. ‘Nuff said right there, except no it isn’t, this fic is beautiful. Kim’s frustration with his craft is palpable, and so is the way he rediscovers his passion through Chay. The writing is wonderfully detailed, every chapter felt like walking through a museum. And tension slowly building between them—unf.

Sunshine in My Closet by moneskin

This is an A/B/O AU that is so satisfying to read. Typical hilarious boundary violations (Chay stealing Kim’s clothes, a bewildered Kim handing over a freshly worn outfit, having barely any idea who this strange kid is) characteristic of the AU, but then the story also delves deeper into more serious topics. Chay has a history of abuse from a past alpha that he has to learn how to navigate with Kim, who is incredibly patient and works hard to make Chay feel safe and loved. Overall a very sweet and comforting read. Seriously, this fic makes me melt.

Your Body Feels Like Disrespect by Blue_Jay (@bluejayfiction)

This fic is so funny because it begins with Kim blurting out, in the middle of an Important Mafia MeetingTM, that he and Chay aren’t having sex, and then wanting to die about it. Followed by Kim’s family trying very hard to both support and terrorize him. It’s hilarious, sexy, and one of my favorite reads when I need a pick me up. (Bless Kinn’s determination to be a Good and Supportive Brother, and Vegas for being the Worst Person Ever.)

In Silent Screams (In Wildest Dreams) by BelladonnaWyck and StratsWrites

This is definitely a darker fic. There’s DubCon, Kim is generally Sketchy, but it’s very hot. And I love explorations of his character where he isn’t just outwardly psychotic and cruel. This fic shows the kind of dark that I think Kim could have been, if you just tilted his character a little to the left. He still seems very much the way he is in canon, but he’s also… a lot more calculating and cold, sometimes. I love it.

Forget-me-always by bisexualbard (@bisexualbard-writes)

I cannot sing the praises of this fic enough. I think it’s probably tied for IGTW for my most-read fics. I’ve probably read this one more often in reality, but only bc it’s shorter. But oh my god, does it hurt. Kim gets struck with amnesia post-break up, does a little light stalking, and gets Chay to help him learn/remember who he is. In the process realizes that wow his life sucks, and there’s no way he wants to go back to it. Especially if he’s the kind of person that hurt Chay. He would rather start over. (Ofc, he doesn’t get to). This fic makes me cry, it’s so good

Coffeehouse Play by AirgodSLV

This is a canon divergence AU that I adore. The KimChay characterization is on point. I love that despite everything going on around them, they also get to be two boys that hang out and play videogames and try to shove each other off the couch while Porsche makes dinner. Given the age difference it’s so easy to make Kim Older and MatureTM, but he’s still a kid, and this story never once forgets that. It felt so honest and true to his character that Kim does have a lot of plans, and he’s very smart, but he’s also still so young, and sometimes shit just goes wrong.

Want and Need by bisexualbard (@bisexualbard-writes)

God, this fic. T h i s f i c. Post-canon Chay goes to therapy and becomes a camboy (in that order) and it’s delicious. Watching the steady breakdown of his and Porsche’s relationship is so satisfying. Everything one of them does to make things worse feels awful, but is so in character that it’s hard to be mad at them for their decisions. Kim readily giving up control if it means he can be with Chay, and Chay getting a crash course in how to dom. All of it is just. So good. This is such a good fic

Your Look, Through This Lens by WildelyDawn (@wildelydawn)

AU where Chay becomes Kim’s photographer. This fic emotionally hobbled me. Just a fair warning. You will cry. But that said, the ending isn’t nearly as sad as the tags would have you believe! At least in my opinion. I think it’s fairly open/hopeful, and beautiful either way. I love the way this fic shows how Kim balances being Wik while also being part of the mafia. And I love how temperamental he is; always hot and cold, while remaining pretty even as far as how he expresses himself. Always very aloof/detached, just out of reach, with Chay never really sure where he stands/what Kim wants. But at the same time the fic happens just before Kim gets a big break, and the subtle ways he shows his excitement and nerves as things start coming together—it’s wonderful.

Love’s a Two-Way Dream by giraffeter (@giraffeter)

This fic is dark. Kim atticwife’s Chay and it’s not a good time. But!! It’s not just dark for the sake of it; Kim is a genuine sociopath, yes, but it unfolds slowly. You get a sense of creeping dread as he does things that are just a little bit off, until finally the Big Bad Thing happens. At first he seems normal, playing the part of good and respectful boyfriend. But it just goes downhill from there, and I love every word of it. The ending especially is very satisfying.

In the Dark of the Night by bisexualbard (@bisexualbard-writes)

Not to recc everything Bard writes, but… This is a rape recovery fic that I feel handles the subject matter incredibly well. There’s no gratuitous rape scenes, and even with the flashbacks, I don’t remember any of them being incredibly detailed. I think Bard handled the fic with incredible respect and grace. This is another one that’ll make you cry. The way Chay handles his past trauma while trying to have a relationship with Kim is so painfully real. And so is the way Kim wants to help him, but doesn’t really know how. But they figure it out together, and it’s amazing. (Also Kim acquires a stabby child in the form of an OC that I adore.) I just love the path Chay's recovery takes in this fic, it's so visceral and relatable. It's all around just. So good. I love this fic for the same reason I love IGTW and it's because both fics show an excellent depiction of recovery.

Chains and Crowns, A Flower Can Both Make by Sweet_William (@sweet-william-writes)

Incredibly Regency AU. Historical AUs are some of my all time favorites, and this is everything I didn’t know I needed. Sweet_William captures the essence of an Austen-esque style while still making this feel like the KinnPorsche characters. Chay is wonderfully feisty, Kim is delightfully complex, and the various family interactions always had me cackling.

Chay sees the future when he touches people. Kim thinks he’s either insane, a spy, or a conman. Oh, and Chay’s visions of Kim? Always sex-related. The shenanigans are endless. What more do you need?? They’re both crazy4crazy and it’s my favorite thing ever. Their banter is snappy and fun, the writing is sexy, and it never once gave me second-hand embarrassment despite Chay’s horrible situations.
